Faith Kakembo, "Freedom" – Did she have the eye highlights that matched her dress last time? Seems very similar to the heat but everyone's bringing their vocals up a notch tonight.

Så Faith Kakembo har alltså suttit och gömt sig på något sjukhus nånstans istället för att sjunga för hela svenska folket tidigare??? Come into the spotlight and stay there, girl

Pretty chill with the finalists today
I hope now that people are aware of Faith Kakembo she gets to do cool things with better songs she really has some good talent
I still do hope the next semi is stronger, but honestly it’s been a much better year for Mello than the last two-three years and I’m enjoying myself a lot

As usual, I’m finishing up my national final rankings with Sweden! Here’s my ranking of the Melodifestivalen finalists:
Cornelia Jakobs – Hold Me Closer
Tone Sekelius – My Way
MEDINA – In i dimman
Theoz – Som du vill
Klara Hammarström – Run To The Hills
Robin Bengtsson – Innocent Love
LIAMOO – Bluffin
Anders Bagge – Bigger Than the Universe
Faith Kakembo – Freedom
John Lundvik - Änglavakt
Cazzi Opeia – I Can't Get Enough
Anna Bergendahl – Higher Power
With all the other national finals going on, I didn't follow Melfest as it was happening, though I did go back and listen to all the entries, and I must say, I generally enjoyed most of them! My clear favourite song was the indie rock Shut Me Up by Tribe Friday, but pretty typically for me I also really enjoyed the other rock songs from Lillasyster and Browsing Collection too, and was disappointed if not surprised that none of them made the final. However, I do think the overall quality of the final is high!
My favourite song here is Cornelia Jakobs’ Hold Me Closer. This is how you do a breakup ballad, it’s moving and painful and I think really well written, musically and lyrically – I especially love the line ‘but mostly I wish that I could love you less’, and I adore the melody and the soft strings. Cornelia absolutely sells this song, she’s such an emotive performer, and I love her voice, it’s got a bit of grit in it that works so well with this song. I also thought the staging was great, almost minimalist with just the lighting and circle backdrop, yet it looked really cool!
The other song I want to mention is My Way by Tone Sekelius. A lot of inspirational pop falls flat to me, but this one has a real message behind it that I found very relatable. The lyrics lean on the generic side, most of this song could be easily covered by anyone as they could be read as a standard ‘be yourself’ message, but the bridge cuts a little deeper – the line ‘make us equal, legal, and heard’ really got to me the first time I heard it, especially as my own country continues to push back against trans people. The staging also makes it clear what specifically this song is about too – the trans colours shining on Tone’s face as she sings about being afraid of showing your true colours might be pretty obvious, but it’s still powerful. I enjoyed watching her perfomance, she seemed to be having so much fun with it, and she sung really well! I also think the song is decent musically, it’s not the most unique, but it’s uplifting, energetic, and catchy – that chorus in particular is very easy to sing along to! It fills me with hope and pride whenever I see other trans people succeeding like this – I cannot wait for the day when the presence of a trans person is no longer a notable thing, but we’re unfortunately a long way off from then, and I found this entry very moving.
Hold Me Closer is currently the favourite to win tomorrow, and I hope it does just that! It’s one of only a few songs in this national final cycle that I’d be happy winning Eurovision itself, that’s how much I like it! Whether it would or not is another matter, but it’s more than good enough to bring Sweden back to the top 10, and probably the top 5!

This semifinal wasn’t nearly as terrible as I was expecting based on internet comments, but these Hall of Fame clips are playing and I’m already having trouble remembering the songs. My ranking:

Faith Kakembo, “Crying Rivers”
Amanda Aasa, “Late”
Anis don Demina, “Vem e som oss”
Mohombi, “Winners”
Drängarna, “Piga och dräng”
Albin Johnsén, “Livet börjar nu”

6. Faith Kakembo, “Crying Rivers” - I think the performance was put together well for a slower song. Enjoyed it, solid though not spectacular.
