Oppinion on some/any of the side charscters in tower prep?
My favorite is ray but thats more becauae of headcanons and theories the tv show didnt leave enough episodes for me to fully back up.
HERE WE GO.
i love the main four to no end, but the more i rewatched the show, the more i fell in love with the side characters.
my favorite character is actually emily wright. she just seems like one of the good ones. and she can't be that bad if she deals with gabe's shenanigans as his vp. she knew about their escape plan, but she wasn't a snitch (we know who that snitch was... welppp). i just think she's admirable.
i have a soft spot for fenton. he has that "i am who i am unapologetically" vibe. we don't know what skill he has, but i've heard it might be similar to cj's, just more honed. he's certainly not stupid, just different (maybe even different from the fringers), and i appreciate that about him.
the further you get into the show, i think the easier it is to warm up to ray. like, despite him and ian being at odds, he doesn't seem to be a complete jerk (i think we could deduce in the elections ep that he and emily were friends or at the very least acquaintances. so he can't be that bad). i think he just so happens to be depicted as the bully side character in "the ian show". the same with cal, tho i'm less inclined to trust him because of his disappearance and becoming a gnome.?!? i do like both of these characters, and they definitely deserve to get more of a background.
even norman who never actually made an appearance or penny who showed up for all of 5 seconds were fun characters to me. goodness, ross?? helping make chemica desin 2.0?! she only appeared in one ep but there are so many characters that they could flesh out.
and as a side note, adding more depth to each of these characters would have made it harder to figure out the "villain" of the week. we always had four or five new faces in each ep to figure out whodunnit. granted, it was the first and only season of the show, so it's not fair to expect that, but had tower prep been given more seasons... man, that would have been amazing.
we haven't even discussed any of the adults- headmaster, coach, art, history... and even nurse. cornelius tower and the man in the tunnels. AHHH i could keep going on and on. i'm sad we didn't see more of them. i didn't mind the mysterious air surrounding their backstories or motivations, it just made me more curious.
#you rly got me going#I HAVEN'T THOUGHT ABOUT TOWER PREP IN YEARS. SO HAPPY TO STILL BE FOLLOWING THE TAG AND SEEING POSTS EVERY NOW AND AGAIN.#it rly has been 15 years this october...#asks#fairytalesociology

How much do you think tasha really knows about the lab rats childhood ?
honestly, I think after finding out about them she interrogated him for the rest of the day. that being said, I think Donald would just talk about how they're completely safe, he's been training them, and they're good kids. I feel like all she knows is when he got the kids and how he's made sure they aren't a danger to themselves or anyone else. I'm about to rewatch the pilot episodes, but I know that Tasha says "you have to remember they're teenagers." She defintiely cares about the kids and she's literally the whole reason why the family felt WHOLE instead of a team. I don't think she knows a lot about their childhood's other than the fact that she and leo are the reason for a lot of their firsts.
in the episode about Leo's birthday, she learns that they never celebrated their birthdays. and in the first christmas episode, we learn that donald didn't even tell them about santa.

TAG GAME!
What’s one interest/hobby/thing you like that you have NEVER talked about on your blog before?
It can be anything from a whole ass fandom to just a little thing that makes you smile but it CAN’T be anything that you’ve mentioned before.
I’ll go first:
This week, I can’t seem to get enough of the Album “For Emma, Forever ago” by Bon Iver. It’s just such a lovely album and great when I’m feeling overstimulated. It seems to be really heralding the late autumnal vibes for me, and I love to put it on while I’m working or tidying or drawing or out for a walk.
The lore of this album is that he got dumped so went to a cabin in the woods somewhere in Wyoming with a guitar and a shitload of alcohol and some rudimentary recording equipment and created one of the best-sounding albums I’ve heard in a while. He’s got a very distinct voice. I like Bon Iver’s other stuff but this one is my favourite right now.
What about you guys?

The music taste of various PJO characters
Percy Jackson: Punk Rock, Hip Hop 'Gangster Rap'
Annabeth Chase: Rock, Country Music (even though she would never admit it)
Grover Underwood: Flute music, Country Music, gospels (I remember him playing a Carrie Underwood song in tlt, she's a gospel musician, right?)
Jason Grace: doesn't has any music taste because he was never allowed to like anything :( would probably unironically listen to white noise or something like that
Nico Di Angelo: Listen, he's canonically a emo, we all know what he listens to
Thalia: Same goes for her. She's canonically a punk, there's no debating lmao
Hazel Levesque: might be controversial but: pop, punk-rock. She's not the cinnamon roll the fandom makes her.
Frank Zhang: Heavy Metal. He looks exactly like the kind of guy for that (he shows it Hazel and she's not the biggest fan, but she doesn't hate it either).
Piper McLean: Acoustic Folk music, pop (especially Oliva Rodrigo, every song is so Piper coded).
Leo Valdez: Pop (Taylor Swift, Shakira, Kesha, you name it), Schlager (he would listen, when he would know that it exists) that's like, the German equivalent to country music but all the Germans know what I mean, and y'all know that I'm right)
Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano: classic music, blues
(feel free to add or correct!)

Planet au annabeth chase is character of all time to me. You just don't understand. She's heavily traumatised. She's 3rd in command in Camp. She's 12 years old. She has 2 friends, and both of them think she's scary. Her closest companion is a magic dog. Her mom terrifies her. She does everything her mom says. She has a gun. She uses perfect grammar, especially around her friends, since she thinks she needs to impress them. She wants attention so badly. She shuts herself off from human connection. Her mom insults her so much that she simply jsut takes it in stride. Her adopted brother is a tree, and she hates her sister. She also would love to run away with said sister. She's obsessed with authority. She is actively pissing the main authority figure in camp since she thinks he's not good enough. She's a hypocrite. She's a loser. She's infuriating. She lies so often that it's funny. Her number 1 life goals is to become a god. I love her so much.

So in the Percy Jackson books demigods can't use technology because for monsters it's like throwing up a sign that says "demigod here". And the other day I realized that this would lead to a certain problem for demigods that wouldn't have been a problem when the books were written. Cuz back in the 2000s when the books came out cars were pretty normal. But now almost every car you see has some sort of computer in the dashboard.
So now if a demigod wants to own a car they have to buy some beat up used car from before they started adding the computers. And that's going to get harder and harder to do especially in States like California (something about dealerships only being allowed to sell hybrid / electric cars now?)
How many demigod deaths do you think it took to figure that out? That demigods were being tracked via car. And how do you find a solution to that?
Is there just a program where a Hermes kid just steals you a car? Do the Hephaestus kids have to build demigod safe cars? How many weapons do you think they can sneak into what can still appear to be a regular car? Are there just demigods driving around in what are essentially tanks with the word "CAR" written across the side?
@fairytalesociology

@fairytalesociology
Thank you so so so much for your patience with me; I've been getting my footing back after starting school again :') I honestly don't remember what you'd asked me about anymore, but I know it was Zombies related so I'm just going to ramble about the franchise until I run out of steam, haha
The first Zombies movie has bothered me since it I first watched it, especially because of its ending. It looked like there was another cheerleading school competing against the Mighty Shrimp!! But that other team doesn't say Anything about Seabrooke, which irked me because.. why didn't they? If they knew about a zombie outbreak in this one town, and they saw cheerleaders who looked exactly like a zombie..... why did no one say anything about the zombies? The lack of their input implies, to me, that either this other school is a farce and Seabrooke is some Orwellian nightmare, OR that everyone is fully aware of Seabrooke and they do not care about the zombies for whatever reason (e.g. zombie outbreaks are common, the politics behind zombies has long-since been discussed, Seabrooke is a really conservative town). I wish we got Zombies 4 so we could see the world outside of Seabrooke!!! And it's a crucial part of my rewrite, especially since it'd make Addison realize how everyone thinks she's human, regardless of her hair color and rhinestones.
Speaking of Addison, I love her potential. Addison is best when she is played as an accidental villain, or at least constantly at moral odds with herself. Addison's flaws primarily stem from her privilege and white guilt, originally perpetuated by her environment being too close-minded, but continues to be perpetuated by her choosing ignorance and neglect of her privilege (which unfortunately in the canon leads to little or no consequence). Even now, in the main series, she's got good foundations for showing how activism can go downhill, or be/become superficial; there's a powerful story there that I want to tap into.
So, in my rewrite, I want Addison's journey of becoming a proper activist to be really clear. In Zombies 1 & 2, I need the characters to full-on call her out on her malarkey. I'd love it even more if marginalized groups like the zombies can't say anything right away, and that builds and builds, and suddenly Zed and Addy get into a huge argument. I even like it if Brianna -- yes, Brianna, the "black best friend" stereotype in the movie about battling racial stereotypes -- had this fight with Addison!!!
I want Addison to have a big fight with Zed, hear the things she doesn't want to hear, and be a coward for a second. I need her to run back to her human friends and family to get some space, only for her to realize that she has the privilege to run away at all Maybe she cries to her parents and her dad threatens to tell the authorities about Zed, despite him doing nothing wrong, and Addison gets this clarity. . She could've done anything to Zed, to his reputation or career or life, in that moment due to her anger; he was lucky that all she did was go to her family. And realizing the power she has over her boyfriend because of her social statuses is what makes her return to Zed with humility. I mean, maybe this borders on too unrealistic, haha; the point is simply that Addison needs to see how she is still like her human friends/family in many regards.
By the end of the series, I want Addison to understand that, regardless of her heritage, her role in Seabrooke is as a human ambassador. Her arc should feel like she learned how her privileges and guilt impact those around her, and how to help a new race of monster without immediately trying to become one of them.
But, of course, that all doesn't even begin to touch on the other major gripe people have with Addison-- her suspicions that she's different were actually correct, and worse, she's rewarded for it. In my rewrite, I want Addison to get confirmation that she's part alien way earlier, ideally at the end of Zombies 2. I think for the best long-term arc, her learning she's generally not human should start at the end of Zombies 1.
Ideally, the reveal she's not human is a private confession from the mom at the end of Zombies 1, which makes Addison's conflict in Zombies 2 a choice-- she can either reveal herself as monster, or she can keep it to herself. Again, that's a huge privilege for her, one that the zombies and werewolves can't afford (as Zed himself demonstrates in Zombies 1). Based on Addison's choice, the world becomes our oyster! Addison can try sneaking away by herself to find answers in Zombies 2 such that she finds the werewolves (instead of it being a matter of fate/luck); she can try leaving Seabrooke altogether; she can come clean and watch her human peers not care (or maybe they do ostracize her like she feared; that's a plotpoint that's not really explored in the original canon). In my perfect world, Addison ends up doing some research, and ultimately causes the aliens to arrive. Maybe the group decides to help her at the start of Zombies 3, or they try to but can't because they're all going away and graduating while Addison feels stuck. Maybe Addison talks to her to-be-deceased grandma, or a similarly-knowledgeable loved one, and inspired by those stories, she chooses to summon the aliens despite not knowing the worldly consequences. Regardless, when Addison gets to engage in her alien culture, I think she needs to be an outsider who learns (hopefully already knowing how to respect another culture thanks to Zombies 2).
Again, Addison is root of a majority of the conflicts in this rewrite because I like her that way, haha. The original canon makes her so paradoxically selfish despite her empathy with sense of justice. It just makes sense to explore a world where Addison's selfishness keeps getting the best of her. I want redemption for Addison; I just make that a very difficult process, haha.
Here are some other comparatively small thoughts about the franchise:
The end of Zombies 3 where Bucky takes over the ship absolutely rocks me because for someone who cared so much about hating on the zombies & co... how did he handle learning he's an alien?? Similar to Addison, Bucky in the canon gets all the benefits without the repercussions. So when Addison learns about the alien thing, I want Bucky to be there too. Actually, wait here we go!!!! Bucky summons the aliens, not Addison; he becomes the villain for Zombies 3. This then allows Addison to teach Bucky everything she's learned over the last two movies about how to be a good person.
Also, Eliza should've been president in Zombies 2; her entire arc was building up to that and her subtle ways of demonstrating how she is a leader and struggling with how to be a passionate revolutionary without turning to violence. Zombies 3 should've then been about her struggling to make change within the bureaucracy of the school instead of being away at college.

I felt like it was going to get a bit too repetitivs to say it on every post. So here.
i am absolutely loving your art style in your chb cabins!
Theres something so beautifully haunting about it.
The empty cabins where its so clear life once was. The fact most of the time there arent people in the frame but you know theyre *meant* to be around somewhere outside of the cabins.
The stuffed animals in the background reminding you how young the demigods are. The fact theyre not in their cabin leaving what theyre doing up to theory. And knoeing its all likely dangerous.
Love your art! Great job!
Hi @fairytalesociology !
Thank you, I’m glad you’ve been enjoying the little details within the cabins. I like to keep in mind when drawing the cabins the varying ages of the campers and how that would affect decor.
I think the small details, decor, clutter, etc help give them character and show a glimpse to the varying personalities that reside in the cabins.

what fic are you working on? 👀
Currently a knightrook one about a bubble mountain, courtesy of @fairytalesociology urging me on continuing it. Don’t know how interesting it will be once I get to the end and actually edit it but I hope it’s a good one. That and flip flopping on a Curious Archer one that ends up exploring Margot’s junk drawer and other adventure stories bc the unseen spaces are what I live for.

What do you think Gabes "all a misundestanding" that lead to him having a parole officer was?
you know, i never thought about it until you asked! and now i've gone down a rabbit hole loll
that quote when gabe called it "a misunderstanding" was from episode 1 when gabe, suki, and cj speak to ian for the first time. they had only just met ian, and honestly, it wasn't the place or time to have that discussion. otherwise, maaybe he would've elaborated.
but there's another time gabe brings up his parole officer: in the opening scene of episode 9. gabe is in a dream with señor guapo talking to him, and he responds with, "oh no, señor guapo! this is how it started last time, and you remember how that ended, don't you?? with the parole officer!"*
so the parole officer story started with señor guapo. it started with a dream (i don't believe gabe would hallucinate señor guapo talking to him while awake).
i'm thinking gabe pulled a crazy stunt that his subconscious convinced him to do. it would make sense that he'd label the entire ordeal as a "misunderstanding" if it started with his sock monkey giving him bad advice.
but ok, here's the thing. i'm not really concerned with what he did as much as why. see, in the first episode, the reason he brings up his parole office is because he's sharing his story of how he got to tower prep.
ian got into a fight at school (where he used his preflex ability), his parents got upset, he started playing a video game as an escape and boom. tower prep.
maybe gabe did something illegal, tried to use his hypersuasion ability and it didn't end so well, he got in trouble and then boom. tower prep.
am i implying that the parole officer and gabe being taken to tower prep are related on a deeper level? or that señor guapo was possibly used by tower prep to plant ideas in gabe's head and bring him down that path? (I'm not convinced gabe was a rule-breaker before tower prep. i don't think he would've have had malicious thoughts on his own). am i reaaally deep into a rabbit hole that leads nowhere? i mean, his kidnapping to tower prep could have been as simple as 'the timing was convenient'.
but if ian's parent's know he's there and they let people take him away... would the parole office had played that same role...?
idk.
tl;dr i took three days to reply and i didn't answer your question, and now i just have more questions <3

season 1: episode 1 (crush, chop, & burn pt. 1)
alright y'all I'm bulletpointing as I watch so let's go!!
the whole "mrs. and mr. davenport" beginning scene is literally seared into my brain from childhood-i think it's funny how clearly i remember it
when we meet the team they're in these mission suit esque things and seeing as all they do is train, is that what they live in????
davenport saying "i don't want to brag, but i am incredibly smart" when introducing the kids is so wild when you consider the fact that he probably didn't have anything to do with making the kids
i love how offended they get when tasha calls them robots
tasha and leo have such a cute relationship i freaking love it
i know we hate donald, and rightfully so, but this episode really amps me up bc dude you are literally introducing them to your wife and you keep talking about them like plants you're growing
when donald is introducing the kids, tasha's the only one recognizing that they're children
"i wanna go upstairs" 😭
they literally never leave the room, it's not just because of filming and set design, they don't even have a place to run THERE'S A RAT WHEEL
@fairytalesociology said that davenport feeds the kids glorified dog food and they're so right
you can't just feed them food??? even preordered????
they eat, sleep, and bathe in their capsules no one can convince me the man was just looking to be cost effective in getting these inventions perfected (they were not children to him AT ALL)
bree is just a girl and i love her for it bc thinking about breaking into song/dance numbers is so real
If you pay attention to the background you can see chase playing with a random locker for a while and I think it’s so funny/cute
Honestly I with it opened and he was just using his bionic hearing to unlock the locker
i just noticed leo has brown paper wrapped around his textbooks and it reminds me of when my mom and i use to make book covers out of trader joes bags and decorate them 💗
baby chase was insterested in chess club and taking med school courses, he deserved more extracurriculars and hobbies in the show
the early heat vision graphics 😅
"i know a chiropractor in the phillipines" is so cute
davenport is awful but the freaking out performances are great
30 grand for a situation to go away is insane bc what really happened??? like yeah the mascot's head caught on fire but it wasn't like they destroyed the building. and even if it was a bribe to get rid of witnesses, you'd have to adress the entire school bc it was a pep rally
tasha being a mom to the kids is so cute like yeah, they're just kids
bree immediately getting excited about the party with tasha is freaking adorable, we deserved more Tasha fr
honestly i think she was more freaked out about the kids than their bionics
lecturing them about how they were designed for missions is so disheartening bc 1. you've probably told them all about how they're top sercret their whole lives and 2. they are superHUMANS
it honestly feels akin to when a parent tells a child they have to be perfect or pushes them into a career they never wanted
yes bc having no contact with the outside world will prevent their glitches and train them for missions (not to mention real life)
obviously it's the perfect solution
honestly if they socialized they would probably have better emotional regulation and control over their glitches. like you could have at least brought them to a company party (and told everyone to treat them as humans) so they have practice talking to people.
chase really was always in blue plaid from the start huh?
"they are not just science projects, they're teenagers" TELL HIM QUEEN
bro you're going to tell me that you can't reprogram your ROBOT FRIEND to like your WIFE
like he can still be snarky but he literally hates her
i really hope someone gets this, but there are a few scenes where Adam feels more like a regular person than just someone who's core personality is being kind of dumb and reckless, and the ending scene before everyone goes to bed is one of those few scenes

Okay so I might’ve mentioned that I’m writing a fic where the children of Percabeth, Solangelo, and Valgrace go on an epic quest to rescue their parents and the rest of the Seven from the clutches of evil and I’ve kinda been Hyperfixating on it for a while so here is the first character I would like to info-dump about.
Meet Finley Di Angelo-Solace!!!
He’s currently my favourite out of the Next-gen trio and definitely the one I have the most fun writing for. I genuinely love him sm.
Rant under the cut-
Fin is the son of Nico and Will, and was created using divine godly magic so is biologically both theirs (hey if Zeus can have a baby from his thigh this can happen)
His powers are a complex amalgamation of both of his parents: he can shadow-travel in sunlight, he can heal and talk to the dead and his main weapon is archery
He’s autistic
He has hypersensitive hearing (it could be an Apollo thing, it could be an Autism thing we don’t know. It’s probably both)
He prefers ranged combat partially because he is touch-averse and likes to keep his distance (also bc the other two characters both use melee weapons so I needed some variety)
I see your “Trans Will Solace” hc and I raise you- “Transmasc son of Solangelo who they love and support so so much”
He will INSIST on wearing a binder throughout the entire quest, rib cage be damned! (This will become a problem bc apparently you’re supposed to take breaks and you’re not supposed to do any physical exercise in them so running around chasing monsters is not gonna go well)
A big theme in the fic is gonna be “names have power- but the name you choose is so much more important than the name you were given”, a continuation of the theme from my Married Valgrace AU (which this is canon to) where Jason chooses to take Leo’s name instead of keeping the name of the mom that abandoned him. I feel like Finley would be a great character to symbolise this- someone who chose his own name.
His favourite colour is green/turquoise
Think of Nico’s scariest moment that you’ve read in canon or in a fic- where he is just a force of complete and utter darkness and death. Are you picturing it? Good. Now multiply that by ten. Now imagine someone tried to misgender his child.
The same can be applied to Will. No transphobe would dare mess with Solangelo’s boy.
He is childhood best friends with the two other main characters, Isabella and Olympia, and talks to them a lot but is kinda shy around everyone else.
He also has a major crush on Isabella- the daughter of Valgrace. I have so many cute hcs about those two y’all have no idea.
He is good with medicine and has a magic first-aid kit that acts a lot like Leo’s tool belt with replenishing supplies.
He loves Star Wars
While all the other characters’ POV chapters have regular PJO-style funny titles, all his chapter titles are TOA-esque haikus.

Planet au thing
So annabeth is 7, and has just run away from St Annes Catholic Boarding School for Girls. She knows there are monsters that want to kill her, and she tries to fight them off. She has scars, a lot of them. There are too many for any seven year old. She doesn't know where she's going. She doesn't know much at all. All she knows is that school is full of monsters, both magical and mundane, that he father doesn't believe her, that she is all alone. Her mother is supposedly a goddess, so why doesn't she come and help her? Smite her father down? Goddess...sounded better than God, the God of her stepmother and father. She knew she hated all of them, but her mother, her biological (Could a goddess have biology?) mother, was conflicitng

Just found this Tower Prep Extra. It’s a series of short Vlogs from the core 4. The last part made me mad at CJ all over again. I get why she did it, but the lies!
