I truly cherish the time I spend with my grandnieces and nephews. I never realized how much I would enjoy teaching them, playing with them, and making sure they’re learning while having fun.
As a child, I didn’t have many restrictions on play, but I struggled. There wasn’t much support. My siblings were under stress, especially with school and schoolwork, because our mother was unwell, our father was absent, and we had endless responsibilities at home.
When I visit my grandnieces and nephews now, I try to focus on their strengths, reinforcing positivity and encouraging them in their potential paths in life. I want them to feel uplifted and empowered.
But in doing so, I’ve noticed something about myself—and I think others may relate to this too. When there’s a conflict with a child’s parent, that tension can unconsciously seep into the relationship with the child. It shouldn’t be that way, but it happens. I realize I need to be mindful and ensure that my personal feelings don’t affect how I engage with them. No matter what challenges exist, I want to be better about separating personal conflicts from my time with the children.
I know that many people struggle with family dynamics, some more than others. At the end of the day, self-care and self-love are essential. While I may distance myself when needed, when I am with them, I want to bring only love, energy, and guidance. I’ll continue working on leaving any negativity behind, focusing on being present, and surrounding them with positivity. My goal is to always manifest good energy in their lives.

🕊️🧚🏽‍♂️www.fairryland.com🧚🏽‍♂️🕊️This post is part of my Tumblr blog about health, nutrition, and goal setting, inspired by my Psych 101 class. My professor for this class is amazing, and we’ve been working on setting short-term goals to create a foundation for long-term success. One of my primary goals is to excel in my current classes so I can advance to more courses, ultimately getting into my master’s program more quickly. My short-term goal is a daily commitment to staying on track, being organized, and managing my time effectively.
To support this goal, I’ve put several strategies in place, including prioritizing healthy eating, submitting assignments on time, and avoiding last-minute stress. Staying consistent with these habits is critical, as my goal is to be in a master’s program by 2027. I’m also tracking my progress regularly to stay motivated.
This week, I’m sharing some of the meals I’ve prepared as part of my commitment to better nutrition and self-care. I’d love to hear from anyone willing to share advice or encouragement—it helps to know I’m not on this journey alone!

🎉🎊🥳🎊🎁🍾After moving back down south to Mississippi to finish my undergrad and hopefully start my master’s program in the next year and a half, I’ve come to realize something about the South: it’s a constant celebration. The party culture here is something else—people are always going out, and there’s a birthday party, announcement, or event happening every single week, usually at a local club or pub. What I truly love about Black people in the South is their incredible ability to celebrate life. They find joy in every little thing, and it’s inspiring to see such vibrant expressions of happiness and togetherness.
🎉🥳🎈🎊🍾🎁At the same time, I wish some of that energy and focus could also go toward education, community-building, and fostering deeper understanding between people. The South is still highly segregated in many ways. For instance, this is the first time in years I’ve gone to clubs where the spaces are so divided—white clubs are almost entirely white, and Black clubs are entirely Black. It’s striking. I can’t help but think how much richer the cultural experience could be if these spaces blended more, like in bigger cities. Exploring each other’s cultures and sharing those experiences would make the social scene so much more dynamic and less repetitive—it wouldn’t feel like the same people and situations every time you go out.
🎉🥳🎈🎊🎁🍾🍾That being said, it truly is a joy to witness people celebrating life with so much passion. There’s something beautiful about the way communities here cherish even the smallest of moments, and it’s a reminder to find joy in the everyday.
