I’m not going to lie, I would totally read a fic where instead of being a Godparent Peri goes to work for his Grandfather in the “trash disposal business.”

….. Did you read my mind? How did you explain my thought process behind my Fairy Swap AU perfectly? How did you guess some of my plans for the fic?
Are you a witch? Do I need to scrap the rust off of my pitchfork?
On my daily rewatch of anw I'm thinking about how people thought Hazel and Dev should've swapped fairies because of how unfair the godparent system was and how Dev needed more experienced godparents or how Peri should've been assigned an easy case and while that may be true, I'm just thinking how that swap would have suited the kids' needs.
With Dev, yes, he was a hard case and probably should've had godparent who had more experience with children like him, but he is a child who is lacking in the parental department and needed someone to fill that role.
Same is true for Hazel. She would have been more suited for a first-time godparent, but what she needed and missed the most was her brother and who do we know who has experience with being someone's godbrother? Peri.
I'm probably just rephrasing stuff here so this probably didn't need to be said. Everything more or less worked out for everyone and eventually for others (hopefully).
Anon I have been rotating this ask around in my head since it popped up into my ask box
Confession: I and many others have thought about the similarities between Peri and Hazel, and pointed out that Dev was not a case for a beginner, but I haven’t seriously considered a full out fairy swap until now because I’m actually very fond of the Hazel-Cosmo-Wanda dynamic and the Dev-Peri tragedy dynamic
Still… yeah, you’re kinda right. Dev genuinely would’ve been better suited for experienced godparents, and he might actually benefit from Cosmo and Wanda specifically because A) there’s two of them and B) they’re very parental with their godkids. And Hazel — having Hazel, the kid who misses her brother so much it tipped over the Needs A Fairy edge, be paired up with the godparent who lost his older brother is kinda brilliant
It kinda makes me wonder about how things would be different if we got Hazel-Peri and Dev-Cosmo-Wanda…
Heads up, this gets long
The first thing I wonder about isn’t so much the dynamics, but rather who would be the protagonist? I adore Hazel as a main character, but Cosmo and Wanda are the FOP difacto mascots. They’re the ones who get the cameos and appear in the reboots/sequels. They can exist independently from Timmy/Hazel/Chloe/Viv. If they’re Dev’s fairies, then Dev would be the main POV character. And like. I love Dev, I do, but he’s an asshole. I understand why and I’m down to justify anything he does, but he’s a dick. Plus, well, he’s also super sad. It’d be very hard to make him a fun POV character, especially pre/mid-character development, at least without switching the genre from Heart Felt Comedy Aimed At Children/All Ages to something much darker and more mature. He’s a great side character/deuteragonist, but it would be a Commitment if we followed him 95% of the time
(And before anyone comes at me about Timmy also being The Worst, a lot of that was flanderization. By the time he gets that that point, let’s be real a lot of people stopped watching, and even then he at least had half a dozen I Love Yous and sweet moments with Cosmo and Wanda to make the commitment worth it to the audience.)
Hazel and Peri
So if we keep Hazel as the lead and Peri as her fairy, how’d that work, writing wise? Do we keep his introduction the same and hope the audience is fine with a Sequel Babies Series. Or (and this is just me having fun), do we hypothetically cut out the part where he Introduces Himself With His Deadname For The Audience’s Sake and just hint at him as being Poof from the original series. Then, after Founder’s Day, we introduce Cosmo and Wanda as Dev’s fairies, and the Peri Is Grown Up Poof thing is treated as a Big Reveal, a la Author Of The Journals from Gravity Falls
Now that out of the way, how do I think these dynamics would work, and how would it affect Dev and Hazel’s relationship?
Like you said, Hazel and Peri connecting over missing brothers is a great starting point, and Peri getting to be the big brother for once would be so much fun to watch. Plus, and I’ve pointed this out before, they’re both rule followers (I can totally see a gag of them bonding over Hazel’s DMV love), though Hazel is willing to play things by ear, while Peri gets majorly stressed/anxious/high strung when rule breaking is in question — in fact, that could be a fun angle to some potential conflicts. Hazel makes a wish, but she doesn’t know how to find the words for what she wants, and since Peri is so new, he doesn’t have the experience to confidently guess. He hesitates, both of them get caught in a mini Anxiety Loop, and escalating event happening in the background force them into action, and through hijinx, they both receive character development
I can also see the Antony thing leading to conflict for them — Hazel’s brother is gone, but he comes back. He visits. They reconnect. Meanwhile, Timmy’s gone gone. His memory is wiped. I can see Peri occasionally accidentally fumbling Hazel’s missing Antony with his own likely grief over Timmy. Maybe after another missed flight or phone call, Peri tries to be “supportive” in the same way he tried to cheer Dev up at his birthday, and he accidentally says something that makes Hazel not only miss her old life, but thing she’ll never have any sort of relationship with Antony again.
Or maybe Peri does handle it well until Antony comes back. Then, alongside Hazel trying to recreate the past, Peri gets overwhelmed with jealousy, like he was when Irep tried taking his place with Dev but dialed up by 10. He worries he’ll lose his first godkid AND be fumbling with reawakened grief
(Plus hey, I can actually see this scenario as a good way to justify bringing Timmy back. Maybe Hazel could even include Timmy’s memories as part of her Rule Free Wish in the finally)
Basically Hazel and Peri have so much in common that if they were the main duo, those similarities could lead to so many bonding moments AND dramatic moments where through being mirrors for each other they accidentally hurt each other and help each other to grow as people
(It makes me wonder how Peri would hide himself in Hazel’s day to day life. Peri becomes inanimate objects for Dev, sure, but he doesn’t have a consistent object he hides as. Maybe Peri could have a human disguise, pretending to be a recent college grad who moves into Hazel’s building? Or maybe he could be a “new pet rock”?)
(Also I have a lot of thoughts on C&W being disguised as pets for Timmy and neighbors for Hazel, but that’s a ramble for another day.)
Dev, Cosmo, and Wanda
So the first question is how would Dev become Cosmo and Wanda’s godkid? They weren’t actually assigned to Hazel, they basically just adopted her. Maybe, Cosmo and Wanda could still be traveling and just end up in Dimmadelphia around Founder’s Day, and through their observations, they seen Dev is going through it and come out of retirement for him. This could also lead to a Cookie situation with Dev instead of Hazel (imagine Dev pretending to be a lawyer, there would 100% be a gag of him acting as every shady lawyer stereotype you know.)
I can see Dev still lashing out at them, probably still demanding perfection for hollow wishes since he can’t get what he really wants, BUT C&W would cause mischief as they misinterpret his wishes. I can also see him acting unimpressed/impatient when they take him on little side quests to meet with fairies that specialize in the things he wishes for. He’s have to defrost to them, and they (likely especially Cosmo) would push his buttons. Dev would also probably deny having fun during these adventures. I’m sure he’d eventually come to see them the same way he saw Irep)
A potential conflict could come from the fact that a lot of Dev’s wishes are by nature spiteful/fueled by pride. Again, major Dev apologist here, we’re talking about the kid who wished for a an evil ghost to come from the depths of hell after having a fairy for less than a week. C&W would still grant his wishes, but they wouldn’t approve of him being a bully, and would probably try really hard to get him to realize the error of his ways through these wishes
It’s likely that Dev wouldn’t even get involved with the anti-fairies here. If he did, I can only see this after Dev specifically makes a wish relating to his father loving him, which C&W can’t grant, or something similar — a breakdown after a big, direct moment instead of a breakdown after months of little, indirect moments
I can also see him both clinging to them as parental figures and resenting them as misplaced anger and sadness over his neglectful dad
I can also see him seeing Peri (and maybe even Timmy) as a threat here — Peri is their son, who they adore like Dev wishes Dale adored him. And since Peri isn’t Dev’s godparent here and therefore doesn’t feel the need to look out for/do right by him, Peri would like sass him harder or treat him as an annoyance, an extension of any tension that comes up when C&W their clingy thing. In a scenario where Dev still ended up under an anti-fairy’s influence, he might even wish Peri was Nothing, or still kidnap Peri here out of misplaced resentment
Dev and Hazel
I feel like swapping fairies would also affect their relationship. Part of their comes from Dev’s jealousy over Hazel’s relationship with C&W — she has two while he only has one, she has a positive relationship with her while his “can’t do anything right” (can’t cross the red tape of Da Rules, doesn’t have the experience/comfort level to go buckwild with wishes/has parents that love him/etc). Here, that wouldn’t be a problem— Hazel wouldn’t care that Dev has two fairies instead of one, and C&W would probably have an easier time getting through Dev’s defenses. It’s possible that a lot of their fights and negative interactions just wouldn’t happen here, and if they did, it would be related to Hazel wanting Dev to be nicer to C&W/Peri.

Once Upon a Time in Fairywood, my fanfic featuring the pop idol and actress Goldie Goldenglow and Peri (the unemployed), featuring Irep (super employed), as they venture around Fairywood together!
Read: Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 (coming soon)
Click more below to read synopsis!
Goldie Goldenglow is now a successful fairy pop idol and actress, but is dealing with a lost sense of direction and loneliness. While Peri is unfortunately unemployed and feels a heavy regret after loosing Dev as a godkid. (;-; )
Peri goes to an all inclusive hotel resort in Fairywood after a strong suggestion to relax from his parents Wanda and Cosmo— but his relaxation time is thwarted as the Fairywood Awards is happening that same week! He bumps into Irep, who rubs into Peri’s face how VERY employed and high status he is as a movie journalist! Peri gets into a fight with him and accidentally bumps into Goldie in disguise. She tells them that she’s running away from Fairywood and wants to explore the surrounding villages as Peri & Irep decide to join her!
Meanwhile in the shadows… Blonda deeply resents Goldie for being nominated for so many awards (especially as a new actress) and teams up with Anti-Cosmo to take over Fairywood so she can finally get what she best deserves! And the Anti-fairies get their fair share of awards as well!

Wings and Wisps masterpost
What is wings and wisps? It is an au/fic set in a crossover of Danny Phantom and Fairly odd parents with ideas from new wish.
It takes place 7 ish years after fairly odd parents and a year after DP's first season during the second season, Post secret weapons (Some inaccuracies may occur because I was watching the show on paramount which messed up the order but I'll do what I can to straighten things out plot wise.}
The plot centers around the mystery and chaos of Danny's routine getting flipped on it's head when a new couple moves in across the street (Cosmo and Wanda), Bringing in a slew of new dangers but also a new ally in the form of his new, Fairy classmate, Peri.
Read the fic here! The linked posts will be very spoil heavy

I’m a writer, not an artist, but in honor of my FOPANW fanfic being close to completion I decided to try something new using a screenshot from the show with the original show’s art style.
The fic is called Elad, I will link it below. I will also include the song I listened to a hundred times while bringing its namesake to life through words, a sore neck, and cramping fingers (artists, I have a new appreciation for all that you do)… if only I could have just signed a certificate.
My story follows the adventures of Dev and Elad—Dale’s anti-fairy—after Dale signs a fairyfication certificate during the takeover of Fairy World, accomplishing his dream of becoming the most powerful being in the world. Elad’s dream, on the other hand, is to be the greatest dad this world has ever seen! Like Dale, he will accomplish his goals… no matter what it takes.
Thanks to my readers who have followed along through nearly 40,000 words. If you haven’t read it yet, I hope you do so and enjoy :)

Fanmade chapter for the runaway godkid au on tumblr!!!
Au made by @bl4z1ng-tr1ckz
Dev slowly opened his eyes, last thing he remembered were the muffled screams of peri as dev bled out on the forest floor, now he was awoken to an almost blinding hospital light along with beeps of different machines. He clutched his head in pain as he already felt a headache coming on, he sucked his teeth in pain as a small “ow!” Left his mouth. He looked up to see a surprised fairy doctor, the doctor had spiked up black hair with a normal doctor outfit with pink accents “oh- my god you’re awake! Give me one second!” The doctor said before quickly rushing out of the room and into the hallway. Dev felt a slight burning sensation in his right hip, he lifted up his hospital gown to find a massive bandage with blood on it.
All of a sudden the doctor opened the door as a panicked Hazel, Cosmo and Wanda ran in. They immediately bombarded dev with panicked questions, he quickly covered his ears as he was way to exhausted to deal with this “g-guys! No offense as I’m excited to see you guys but please calm down. Im getting overwhelmed.” He explained. The three stopped talking before saying “sorry!” In unison, Hazel looked dev in the eyes and gave him a soft smile as she teared up. She immediately hugged him “I’m so happy you’re okay!” She said, dev hugged her back before letting out a yelp, Hazel recoiled out of the hug to look down at dev’s wound “sorry! I just really missed you…” she explained. Dev and Hazel struck up a conversation as Cosmo and Wanda leaned against the wall of the hospital room.
“So how long was I out for?” Dev asked “well from what jorgen said, a little over a day.” Hazel replied. From what Hazel then told dev, irep was now arrested and in fairy prison, no trial necessary. Dev nodded before looking down at his hands as he fidgeted with them, Hazel noticed this and gained a look of concern on her face “dev…are you ok?” She asked worriedly. Dev all of a sudden burst into tears as he tried to let out a response under choked up tears, hazel immediately wrapped her arms around dev, trying to not open his wound “I-I’m a monster! I put the entirety of fairy world in danger all because I was on some stupid power trip! I almost killed your godparents and peri!” Dev yelled.
Hazel was doing her best to comfort dev, but once it dawned on dev peri was no where in sight, he became inconsolable. Dev thought peri was so repulsed at the sight of him that he refused to show up. Hazel tried to tell him that wasn’t the case however dev wouldn’t listen as he just continued to ugly cry, Cosmo and Wanda saw all this unfold and ran into the hallway as they made a phone call. Meanwhile, peri was walking around fairy world looking down at the ground, trying to process everything that happened. He found dev after 7 months, witnessed him being impaled by a mace, had to watch irep get taken into custody, etc. He felt super bad for everything that happened, he felt responsible for everything, when all of a sudden he got a call.
He opened his phone to see his mom was calling, he picked up the phone immediately, he felt he just needed to talk to someone to take his mind off things “hey mom what’s up?” He said tiredly “dev is awake-“ Wanda said before immediately being hung up as peri dropped what he was doing and rushed to the hospital. He flung open the doors of the hospital as he ran over to his parents “is he in there?!” He yelled, Cosmo and Wanda nodded back. He immediately ran into the room to see dev sobbing and Hazel attempting to comfort him. As soon as the two laid eyes on him, they both went silent, dev instantly looked away trying to wipe away his tears. Hazel got off of the hospital bed and gave dev a soft smile before leaving and closing the door behind her, leaving the two alone.
Peri instantly rushed over to dev and attempted to talk to him “dev! Thank god you’re ok! I-“ he exclaimed before noticing dev trying not to break down, he instantly reached over to dev however as soon as dev noticed this he flinched and moved back “d-don’t touch me! I’m a monster!” He yelled out. Peri couldn’t believe what he was hearing and immediately dismissed this “Dev! I understand that-“ he exclaimed before dev began to repeat what he said over and over. The two eventually just tried to get louder and louder trying to talk to each other before peri had enough and pulled him in for a hug. Dev went completely unresponsive for a moment before holding onto him for dear life and beginning to cry again.
Peri rubbed dev’s head as he comforted him, he’s been waiting 7 months to do this and he finally could, “it’s ok, I’m here, don’t worry.” He said softly, eventually dev went silent as he had fallen asleep, peri laid him down on the bed and put the blanket over him. He just sighed as he looked down at an exhausted dev. Eventually he exited into the hallway to find Cosmo, Wanda and Hazel sitting on chairs, waiting for him. Peri just leaned against the doorway and sighed before asking
“So…what’s our next move?”

The first in my what-if vigilants one shots
*this is an experiment I am doing with this blog where I take these what if au versions of characters I've turned into vigilants fighters and write short stories about them and because the fairly OddParents posts have gotten more traction than most of the ones I've done I'm starting with this idea I had shortly after my Dev post
Hazel and Dev’s first tournament
...
Peri turned to the two children and asked
“are you two ready to make your big debut?"
Dev put on his sunglasses and fortitude field with a confidnt smirk and said
“I'm ready we've been training constantly for this and I can't wait to see how proud I make my dad”
Hazel though clearly also excited was slightly more reluctant and Peru got down on her level as she was putting on the fortitude field and said
“Hazel I know you're going to do great my parents are really great at training and you and Dev are both super talented I can't wait to see the show you two put on with the other fighters today” this gave Hazel a new bout of confidence as she proudly said
“I'm ready as I'm going to be!” the two then finished preparing for their match while Peri tapped his cain on the ground to teleport himself in front of the audience with his showman smile to kick off the tournament
“thank you all for coming to the first Cosmo and Wanda doubles showcase now it is my proud honor to introduce our first competitors in the youth bracket today”

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
After watching the recent fairly odd parents a new wish episode with Irep (Foop) I found out what happens when an anti-fairy comes to a child and the child's wish doesn't happen in the opposite, they can literally wish for anything they want without breaking the rules with the wish conditions.
So for that, the fanfic for anti-wanda and anti-cosmo being Chloe's anti-god parents is getting delayed since I have to change the plot and details.
But I do have another fanfic coming into mind though.
While watching the episode 'The secret origin of Denzel Crocker',when Timmy goes to Crocker's childhood the babysitter which is confirmed to be Vicky and Tootie's uncle and it got me thinking, "What if Crocker never forgot what his babysitter did and trying to get revenge on him by trying to take advantage of his niece's?"
This basically follows Vicky as the main character going back to Dimmsdale after her Dad died in a car accident (for explanation:Her parents got a divorce before this fanfic happened which Vicky decided to go live with her dad and Tootie decided to stay with her mom.). Their mother both suggests they should see a therapist together which follows Crocker into lying saying he is a therapist to take advantage of them. Vicky goes to her old school which is two blocks away from Tootie's school to see everything is changed and somehow makes friends with a girl named Brittany.
This is kind of 'Class of '09' based except none of the male teachers are perverts. And I need some help on the title of this fanfic would be.

Me: *Get's an idea for an angsty Timmy Turner one-shot*
Me: Oh that's a good idea, I should write that!
Me: No, no, no; I got too many WIPs.
My brain: Do it.
Me: No! I don't have time and you can't make me.
Two days later.
Me: *Staring at a new Google Doc* Alright, alright! I'm caving, I'll write it. You happy?
My brain: You should call it 'Fragmented Memories.'
Me: Oh you're good.

Once Upon a Time in Fairywood - Chapter 2
Tumblr media
2 - The Conflict at the Soirée
The Enchanted Palace Hall was a glittering dining room flushed with imperial arches garnished with corinthian columns and high ceilings decorated with chandeliers illuminating the art deco detailing against warm marble. White-clothed round tables, embellished the hall seating the celebrated guests and attendees for the Fairywood Awards. Paintings of enchanted creatures from times passed distinguished the walls in gold frames, giving the feeling they too were part of the ceremony. All while Goldie stood front and center stage at the podium under the beaming spotlights, sharing the stage with her co-star Blonda Fairywinkle as they announced they were both picked to co-host this years awards ceremony.
Goldie finished her welcome speech with exceptional poise and grace alongside Blonda as the dining hall roared in applause and cheer. It’s not everyday she gets to speak to such a prominent group of enchanted beings. Blonda was exceptionally dazzling this evening. Her ice-blonde hair styled in an elegant up-do, showcased her brilliant aquamarine gemstone earrings. A white, plush fur-wrap draped her shoulders complimenting her glacier blue, fitted silk gown, embroidered with the finest diamonds and silver threadings. She wanted everyone to know who was queen and just by Blonda’s presence herself, made the entire hall give their reverence and full attention.
Goldie and Blonda’s welcome speech was charming and playful. They easily flowed back and forth, just as in their movies where they frequently played the roles of mother and daughter. Goldie really enjoyed Blonda’s character and cherished every moment of their onstage relationship. Blonda was the warm and patient parental figure that Goldie needed through this overwhelming stage in her life. But as they started heading back to their tables as the band came back to take over the stage, Blonda’s real personality showed through.
“Ugh, you should have let me say that last line, Goldie, you know everyone is really only here to see ME host the awards. Blonda scoffed as she took a sip of her olive martini. “You’re just here to pull that new crowd of younger fairies born after that silly fairy baby ban was lifted. Sure you may have larger ratings right now but remember that I span GENERATIONS of fans. Everyone loves me, and I’m sure people will love you too… you know, eventually.”
“Sorry Blonda– Ma’am. I didn’t mean to! I was just trying to riff–”, Goldie stuttered as she nervously tried to sip her pina-colada mocktail.
“Sweetie, your drink is spilling on your face.” Blonda stated, with a smirk.
“Ah! Sorry! Sorry!” Goldie patted her mouth with the dinner napkin. The band started playing a new song and the attention was thankfully shifted away from that embarrassing interaction.
It was often that Blonda was hard on her. It made sense as legendary as she was. Goldie was just a newbie and what legend would want to work this much with a newbie? Blonda is probably embarrassed being around her. Since their lead casting in their first film, they were paired endlessly together. Talk shows, stage cameos, theatre specials, day time and prime time shows, celebrity events, even MORE movie roles! –the list goes on. Goldie was sure that Blonda was just tired of carrying the weight of a newbie around. She would do her best to be on Blonda’s good side even when it came with snarky remarks and heavy criticism, Blonda was just giving her strong learnings as a newbie… right? Regardless, Goldie tried her best to see Blonda as her on-stage warm, motherly persona and was happy that Blonda was also co-hosting the awards with her.
The dinner was finished just shortly after dessert and the dining hall was magically turned into the soiree’s cocktail lounge for after-dinner drinks. Tall tables, velvet curtains draping the walls, twinkling fairy lights, bartenders on call for cocktails, and a lively band, transformed the hall into a jazz lounge only rivaling the Caveau de la Huchette lounge in Paris.
A couple well known actors came by Blonda’s side to greet her and thank her for the speech. She giggled with them so elegantly as they exchanged kisses on the cheek and went their way while Blonda stayed at the tall table with Goldie. Male attention always enthralled Blonda, and it put her in a better mood than before, to which relieved Goldie. Blonda’s new dry martini arrived as she brought it up to cheers. Goldie, on the other hand, was still working on her previous pina colada mocktail and politely asked Blonda how she knew the two gentlemen who stopped by.
“Oh we are just old friends from back in the day! We used to be so close while we were still working on our acting careers. We only really catch up on events like this that can bring us back together.” Blonda took a pause to reflect, smiled, and took another sip of her martini. “So Goldie, darling, did you bring anyone special to this weekend’s awards show? I didn’t see Cupid or Nmsic Phairy. Don’t tell me you’re alone!”
Blonda had an unexplainable way of gut-wrenching Goldie while staying elegant and lovely. Again, Goldie knew it’s just because she’s just a silly newbie and newbies probably deserved it like her.
“Ah, actually they might come later!” Goldie said meekly, finishing her pina colada mocktail and ordered another one from a passing waitress. “I got Bruno to reserve a room for them if– I mean, WHEN they do come. Haha!”
“Oh, how marvelous. Bruno sounds like he’s treating you well then. He’s new bodyguarding but seems like he’s been a great help!”
“Yeah he’s great!” Goldie smiled, as her new drink arrived at her table. She took it from the waitress’ tray and looked up to thank the waitress but was surprised to see a familiar face!
“Luma?! Is that you?!” Goldie exclaimed. She put down her drink and went to hug Luma, but Luma didn’t hug her back. Must have been because she’s carrying a drinks tray, Goldie thought. “Blonda, this is my friend, Luma Glitterwings! She and I were trainees in the same idol talent agency!”
“Nice to meet you Ma’am. And Hello, Goldie.” Luma said very matter-of-factly. She was a petite fairy with sparkling eyes who stood at Goldie’s same height. Her long, pink hair pulled tightly into a bun that served to keep it out of the way while waitressing. One could imagine Luma dawning a dazzling iridescent pop-idol outfit with mic in hand singing under the spotlight, but no, she was here just waitressing.
“This waitress outfit is so cute on you! Blonda and I wore one for a TV show we just shot for last week. How’s life?! How are you?!” Goldie excitedly rambled.
“Look, Goldie. I don’t think you should call me your friend.”
“Wait– why not?”
“I’m not the only one who also thinks this but ever since you became this big shot you’ve become so self-centered and a terrible person, that I don’t want to associate myself with you anymore.”
“Uhh.. I don’t think that’s true?” Goldie replied in confusion.
Why would Luma think this way of her? Luma was probably going through a tough time and Goldie just so happened to be the punching bag for it. Luma’s words hurt a lot but Goldie tried her best to be neutral and understanding.
Unfortunately, Goldie’s response didn’t turn out for the better. “Luma, I’m sorry you’ve been feeling this way. You know we were close at the talent agency. I just don’t understand how you can come to that conclusion?”
“Don’t gaslight me! I’ve seen you on TV. You’ve truly become a selfish person!” Luma raised her voice in pure resentment and the whole hall fell into silence, as all the attention was on both of them. “I was let go by the idol talent agency and I had nowhere to go! You never even bothered to see what was happening in my life.” Luma trembled with anger. “All I needed to hear was ‘I’m sorry that happened to you’ that’s it. That’s all I needed to hear, Goldie! But no! I heard nothing from you!”
“Luma, I am truly, truly sorry that happened to you.” Goldie's heart dropped, as she held her hands to her chest pleading to her friend. “You should have contacted me too and told me how much it was affecting you! I would have loved to hear from you while I was working non-stop for months with barely any sleep or any time to think. Luma, if you would’ve just let me know, I would have–”
“Too late. You had your chance, Goldie.”
“Luma,” tears started bubbling up in Goldie’s eyes, but she tried her best to push them back. “That’s not fair.. I didn’t know–”
“‘Not fair?’ ” Luma taunted as her anger went fully unleashed. “Give me a break, Goldie! If you wanna see the receipts of what’s NOT fair I got that list right here for you!”
As Luma went to raise her wand, a poof of clouds all of a sudden came between Goldie and Luma as Bruno appeared, his broad shoulders in his black tux separated them two.
“That’s enough now, miss. Let’s get you a spot to work away from the hall.” Bruno rested his hand on Luma’s shoulder, and started gently escorting her towards the exit, nodding to Goldie as a sign of ‘the situation has been handled’.
“Oh so now you let your bodyguards handle your ‘friends’ now? Jeez, that’s so pathetic.” Luma snarked back.
Goldie was left vulnerable and petrified from the encounterment. Guilt and sadness enveloped her body and it didn’t help that all eyes in the entire hall were on her, but her feelings were so intense that she felt numb to being a spectacle.
Blonda was apparently thrilled to see this entire happening. “Ha! Oh Goldie, don’t blame her. This is just what happens when you get big. Friends just get madly jealous of you, that’s all.”
Petrified, Goldie was only half listening to Blonda. Tears finally broke from Goldie’s eyes and streamed down her face. A sudden fluster came from her heart and moved her almost involuntarily as she broke from her state and raised her voice for Luma to hear.
“Luma, I love you and you’re going to do well in everything you do! I miss you and remember I love you and I’ll always love you!” Goldie exclaimed, her face dripping with tears. Just before Luma had any chance to respond, Goldie took out her wand and poofed out of the hall disappearing in front of everyone.
She returned just in front of her hotel room, as fairy hotels have strict privacy enchantments on their rooms, and felt relieved to see that she was alone in the corridor. She wiped her face and tried to keep herself from breaking down but kept fumbling with the keys as she struggled to unlock the door. She was finally able to turn the key to open the door as she closed it abruptly behind her.
Goldie paused to look around the room. It was a large, circular hotel suite with Victorian furnishing and ginkgo leaf wallpaper. The tall ceilings were garnished with meticulous crown moldings and chandeliers that illuminated the space. A canopy bed sat on the opposite side of the room, framed by a window and french glass doors that led out to a juliette balcony. The hotel staff took care of unloading Goldie’s luggages and as she turned around to look back at the wall behind her, she saw that the staff took an extra step in setting up her movie and idol group posters, awards, achievement plaques, and medals all along the same wall of the door behind her.
For a moment she looked in awe at them all as if she didn’t even know this person despite them all having her name and the images bearing her semblance. Then suddenly, as if all the anxiety and sadness of the evening's events bubbled up at once like a boiling water spilling over, she broke down with tears streaming down her face and crumpled to the floor.

(Better read this one first.)
The lights go up.
Everything beneath the circus tent is black, green, and purple. The classic three-ring-and-trapeze setups are crowded with pine boxes–stacked to form pedestals. Brainwashed ghosts of varying shapes and sizes perform as they take their places around the stage. Their movements are formless and unnerving. The crowd in the grandstands watches in bewitched silence or claps a little at the end of a noticeable stunt. Suddenly, every figure in sight stops mid-stride.
Freak Show appears in spotlight with a clap of flash paper. His heel is balanced on the lip of the center ring. His deathly white skin gleams against the darkness. He’s wearing a sharply tailored pinstriped suit—the only red in the entire tent. The crowd’s eyes follow as he reaches up to tip his hat in greeting.
But he’s startled to find nothing there. The spiderlike man smooths back the wrinkles on his forehead in a casual gesture and covertly peers around.
The spotlight abandons him, swinging up across the motionless faces of a troupe of ghosts poised on one of the stacks of boxes. It settles to shine at the top on a clown in a baggy yellow sack-style costume with loud pink polka dots all over it and orange frills on the hands, feet, and neck. The clown’s gloved right hand is extended to point, as if having drawn the spotlight’s direction by itself. Its painted face is obscured by the ringmaster’s ebony silk top hat sat snug on its head. The crowd giggles.
Freak Show, miffed and unsure, hurries through the darkness as quietly as he can toward the lit figure. Meanwhile, the clown’s elbow slowly bends for its fingers to reach the back brim of the hat. With a pinch and a tug, the hat tumbles off–revealing a long messy mop of bright rainbow hair. The crowd laughs and claps. The hat bounces off the toe of one of the clown’s pointed white shoes and rolls on the box. Freak Show appears at the edge of the spotlight and swipes to grab the hat. But the clown swipes faster and plays keep-away with it, dodging and weaving like a rubber hose cartoon as Freak Show lunges and reddens. The crowd chortles with increasing vigor at each failed attempt.
The nearly crimson ringmaster steps back and glances at the darkness above before digging in the pockets of his robe. He produces a ring. Its menacing blue jewel glares in the light. Freak Show slips it on a finger and straightens himself. He turns to the audience with a demonstrative smile and juts the ring in the direction of a nearby performer. The ghost’s body vaporizes, reduced to a green wisp that gutters on the floor. The audience yelps in amazement. He then turns the ring on the misbehaving clown. The clown stands still.
Nothing happens.
The crowd chitters. Freak Show tears off the ring and produces a talisman of blood red mineral carved in the shape of a demon’s head.
No luck.
He throws it down and tries again. The clown leans on one leg and taps its foot. After the third loss, Freak Show’s hand flies in and out of his pocket so fast that it drags out a whole tangled mass of cursed trinkets. He nearly falls to catch them, but misses. They hit the floor with a jingle and scatter. The crowd howls with laughter. Even the clown doubles over, holding its stomach. Freak Show snatches a blackened gold necklace from the pile and raises its glaring pendant at the damned hooligan’s face. The neck of the clown’s gown erupts in eight-foot flames that lick at the tightropes above. The audience shrieks.
The singed cloth falls to the wooden floor in a heap, along with the hat. Dead silence fills the air. A little surprised at the reaction himself, Freak Show regains his composure and coolly approaches his prize. The fabric twitches. He hesitates. The ashy yellow gown bucks with an “arf”, and little teeth from inside clench the brim of the hat. A dog with short blue fur and spry legs races out. It leaps down onto the dirt stage, taking the hat and the spotlight with it. The ringmaster fumes and chases it as the crowd cheers.
Dani, hiding in her ghost form in the shadows of canvas high above, laughs to herself. She likes this new guy already.
She turns around and pries apart two layers of the tent’s facade to check on the others. Danny and Valerie are still working on disabling the industrial-sized doomsday mind-control machine–or whatever it is–that Freakshow has hoisted above the stage. The two are hanging in the air at an open panel on the thing’s side. Piles of its guts have been strewn out onto Valerie’s hoverboard as they work feverishly to cut off the power supply without blowing anything up. They bicker in hushed tones over which wires to cut. Neither gives a convincing impression that they’re very sure what they’re doing.
“Almost done?” Dani interrupts.
“Getting there. This wiring is idiotic,” Valerie replies.
“How’s Tim doing?” asks Danny.
Dani zips her head back out and looks down. The dog is running literal circles around Freak Show as the inhibited ghosts fumble to assist. She snickers.
“He’s kinda making me jealous.”
“Just keep an eye out, okay? We don’t know what else could be up here,” Danny tells her. Again.
“What, you think I’m gonna get a spider bite?”
“As if you’d mind.”
Dani doesn’t really hear him. She’s busy thinking about what kind of superpowers you could get from a ghost spider.
“Why did we let the person we barely know handle the distraction again?” Valerie asks.
“You let Wulf come on the last one,” Danny replies.
“Dani vouched for him.”
“And I vouch for Tim. Besides, he’s immune to Freak Show’s tricks.”
“So am I.” Dani taps the Fenton Phones in her ears that keep out the mind control. “Especially if you’d let me pull his cape over his head and shove his stupid hat over it like I wanted. Tim coulda taken pictures. We’d have a Christmas card right there.”
Valerie can’t hide a smirk, but Danny just rolls his eyes.
His sister sighs. He’s so boring these days.
He and Valerie start talking about how to tackle a junction of cords that looks like the head of Medusa when Dani shushes them.
“Wait a second.” She propels herself closer to the outer wall of the tent. Equidistant from the roar of the crowd and the muttering of the machine, she hears tires. Footsteps. The clink of metal. She burns herself a small window with her palm, though she already knows what she’s going to see.
“We got trouble!”
The tent’s flaps fly apart as Guys in White pour in. Each of them is clad in shiny white armor with bulky projectile weapons in hand. The crowd continues to cheer as its own silhouette evaporates in the moonlight from outside. The dog raises its head and barks madly, dropping the hat. The agents ignore the ghosts around them and fire lasers into the roof. Valerie and the halfas put up their shields just in time. The concentrated bolts of plasma slice through the machine like butter. Its moorings fail, and the sabotagers lurch out of the way as the whole thing comes crashing down on the center ring.
What follows is a confusion of ecto-bolts, lasers, darting liberated spirits, and dust. The dog stumbles around on the wreckage of the grandstands with its face stuck in the top hat. Freak Show–battered but undeterred–takes his stupid hat back. He scrambles around, looking for an exit in the chaos without being seen. A crack of green lightning about two feet away scares him limp. He drops to the floor. The dog catches up, nabs the hat, and is gone before it can be reached. Unable to track the dog in the debris, Freak Show shakily gets up and lumbers away. He’s back in the hands of the agents before he’s out of the dust cloud.
The halfas hold their shields as Valerie returns laser fire with laser fire in a hail of bright red energy blasts. In preparation, they’d made up this formation to avoid each person having to juggle offense and defense. But now they find themselves unable to move much as a clump. No matter how many agents they deter, more seem to pile on. It feels like they’re coming from every direction. Closing in.
“We gotta get out of here,” Valerie orders.
“Where’s Tim?” Danny shouts over all the noise.
They have to carefully break formation to look for the dog. No one can see a thing, and they’re all getting banged up. Dani calls out for their new partner, drawing more fire in her direction. She remembers to turn intangible, but a burning shot grazes her arm anyway. She also has to be mindful of her distance to the ground, or else risk melee attacks from batons and debris that swing out of the haze. Something whacked her foot a minute ago.
The dog finally hears her, at least. A muffled bark comes from somewhere behind her. She turns and sees the dog running from an electrified net that gets thrown, reeled back, and thrown again. Dani fires a slew of bolts in the direction of its caster. She hears them hit something, but the net comes again. Her brother swiftly appears and scoops the dog up as it jumps from a collapsed heap of boxes. That’s good enough for her. She flies upward.
They all fly out of there at top speed into the surrounding fields of Amity Park’s city limits. Ghosts soar out of the destroyed tent, up into the night sky like bees from a burning hive. A deadlocked parking lot of government assault vans attempts to follow them out. Dani stops looking back and focuses on heading back toward town with the others.
Exhausted, Tim stops being a dog and returns to his street clothes. This leaves Danny holding him awkwardly by the waist with his legs dangling. Tim still has the hat in his mouth.
“Is there a reason you couldn’t have done that a little earlier?” Valerie asks pointedly.
“I forgot how until now,” Tim answers defensively after transferring the hat to his hand.
Danny turns Tim and himself invisible, so as not to be spotted. Dani joins Valerie on her board to do the same. When things go this crazy, the girls’ usual plan is for the two of them to split up and debrief remotely. But she isn’t sure Danny knows. Before anything can be said about it, the group notices familiar pod-shaped tracing jets approaching on the horizon, ready for them to scatter.
“Great. Now what?” Dani asks aloud.
“Train car!” Valerie points to a nearby train track where an engine with several freight cars attached speeds along toward town. Too low to track, and the Guys won’t be expecting it. The four of them head down and slip spectrally into a half-empty car of hay bales. Urgency finally lifts, and they all melt against the barn-smelling floor.
Danny is the first to say what everyone’s thinking.
“Well, that was a trap.” He rubs a sore spot on his side where he got hit with a stun baton. “I should’ve known something was off. Freak Show’s an ‘artifacts and occult’ guy. A big machine like that isn’t really in his wheelhouse.”
“It was definitely made by the Guys in White. Nobody overdesigns like they do,” Valerie adds. “This wasn’t just a trap, it was a sting.”
Danny nods in agreement, his head still on the floor.
“Hey, hasn’t Freak Show been in trouble with the Guys for, like… years?” Dani directs her question at her brother. She’s never had to deal with the eerie kook herself before, but she’s heard Danny complain about him often enough. “What do you bet they cut a deal where he lures us in and gets–I dunno, parole or whatever. Meanwhile, they test-drive this big honking machine that can brainwash a ton of ghosts at once. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.”
“Mine too.” Danny sits up and takes out the earphones. He collects Dani’s pair. “Did he actually manage to set you on fire?” He asks Tim.
“No, I did that,” he answers from somewhere behind her. “I think I singed my hair a little, though.”
Danny doesn’t hide being unnerved, which makes Dani grin. Valerie looks away impassively.
“So now, I guess we’ll have to worry about Freak Show being off the hook,” Danny thinks aloud to keep the thread going.
“Doubt it. Cause he stole this.” Tim has spent the whole conversation trying to pry something away from the inside of the hat. He tears away the duct tape and is left with a storage drive. He shows the others the label. “Blueprints and backups.”
“Yikes,” the other three say together.
“So, what do we do with it?” Dani asks. She already has her own opinion, but she doesn’t like the riveted look Valerie’s giving the rectangle in Tim’s hand.
If they built anything like that machine, there are a thousand ways they could use it to their advantage and save their town. Valerie knows that isn’t the way they agreed to handle this. At the same time, Dani knows it’s hard for Valerie to put her trust in ghosts in general. And recent events are only making that more complicated. But even if ghosts aren’t all on their side—and many of them aren’t even that human—they’re not pawns to be used. Dani herself is proof enough of that, isn’t she?
True to his promise, Danny hasn’t said anything–waiting for her lead.
Valerie tears her eyes away to look at Dani. She gives her a half-smile and says, “Well, we can’t let it get out, can we? Shouldn’t even exist.”
Dani nods affirmatively.
“Give it here. I barely got to do anything this time,” she says.
Tim hands it to her. Dani stands up and smashes the drive with her foot.
