Hey a few years ago I saw this in the window of a secondhand shop. Do you know anything about it? It's clearly based on the schleich horse but I've never seen anything plush and huge like this from schleich. i live in Germany.
I have never seen that Schleich horse before in my life. I'm genuinely stunned
Schleich did make a few large Bayala plushies in collaboration with Happy People, but all of them (except the unicorn) have yarn manes:
These are the only photos I've been able to find of the horse on resale sites (all listings have ended):
I found photos of it in the hands of one collector on flickr. All these photos were taken in 2009, and while he doesn't write descriptions, he does specify in the title when a horse is a custom job. So at least we have an approximate date and we know it was a commercial product:
Idk man, I'm googling in German to the best of my ability but I can't find anything on this horse. He wasn't in any standard product catalogue. Maybe he was a display piece, like Schleich's current life size figures??

Odă limbii materne
Vasilii Parfeni
În versurile mele
Pe tine te slăvesc-
O, limba mea străbună,
O, graiul românesc!
Tu, fagure de miere,
Cu slove din latini,
Te vor vorbi întruna
Copil, adult, bătrân.
Căci i-ai avut ca paznici
Pe Mircea şi Bogdan,
P e Ţepeş, domnitorul,
Pe falnicul Ştefan!
Ei au luptat cu hoarda,
Cu crudul Baiazid,
Ce au râvnit la Ţară-ne,
Dar fost-au izgoniţi.
De dragul tău, o limbă,
Căzut-au mulţi eroi,
Ce părăsindu-şi casa,
Plecat-au la război.
De dragul tău, o, limbă,
Şi astăzi ne jertfim-
Să fii oricând curată,
Mereu te-mbogăţim!
Nu cu cuvinte goale,
Cu vindere de neam-
Păzindu-ne comoara
De peste ani şi ani!

Ghoulies and ghosties and long-legged warriors and things that are gonna get smooched*
(*by fearless Icelandic women)
I don’t do this a lot, but the other day I came across a short folktale that deserves to be quoted in full. It already caught my notice that many of the women in Icelandic folktales are 1) fearless and 2) ready to laugh in the face of landowners, the undead, and whatever divine forces cross their path, but this story is really something. So, as translated from Árnason’s “Horfinn er fagur farfi” by May and Hallberg Hallmundsson:
Once, at a pastorage, a dead person had to be buried, and the pastor’s hired hands were set to dig the grave. Also in the pastor’s household was a spunky young servant girl. When the grave was almost ready she happened to walk through the churchyard, and just as she was going by, the grave-diggers turned up a human bone; it was a thigh-bone of enormous size.
The girl caught sight of the bone and picked it up. As she was examining it, she remarked, “It would have been fun to kiss him when he was alive.”
Then she put the bone down and walked off.
The day passed into evening. When it was dark and the lamps had been lit, the pastor found he needed a book that he had left on the altar of the church earlier in the day. He asked the girl to go and get it for him, for she had a reputation of being totally unafraid of the dark.
The girl had no objection. So she went out to the church, picked up the book from the altar, and returned back down the aisle. When she reached the door, she saw a man of huge stature sitting in the last pew on the north side. he addressed her, speaking this verse:
“Gone is my glowing skin tone, good my maid, and faded. Look into my dead eyes, lady, lustrous of old, though cold now. Hacked in half my buckler had I of yore in war; my beard’s uncleaned, but kindly kiss me if you still wish to.”
The girl, not the least taken aback, went over to the man and kissed him. Then she returned to the house with the book and thought nothing of it.
The End.
No really. Apart from a note that this apparition (who the bone belonged to) must have been one of the “gigantic saga-age warriors” there is absolutely no information about what kind of consequences this had, presumably because this was just a normal Wednesday night for this girl. (An alternative version of the story has her running away scared, which I will classify as the slander it so obviously is.) So I’m just gonna guess that she carried on living a long, fearless life, while somewhere a blushing undead warrior went home to his mates in the afterlife.

What would be the masculine form of "Mín fagra kæra"?
“Minn fagri kæri”, although it is somewhat unusual for the adjective “fagur” to be used about a man (in the same sort of way as “beautiful” in English, except it’s also a somewhat archaic word used mostly in established phrases).
