Hey, just curious if you're still offering those $25 outfit profiles. I'm considering getting a set done for Joseph, though I'm still debating on a fourth outfit. Just let me know if you are, and maybe I'll have one thought up by then. X)
Yeah! Commissions are still opened. Go ahead and send the details either through a DM, or you can email me at [email protected]

Question
So, I have a question regarding cultural appropriation. So, if you are at a home goods store, such as Pier 1, and there are home decor that are from different cultures than yours, like a Buddha statue for example, should you avoid buying stuff like that? Even if it's made in that country by an artisan? It's just, I understand that usually it's appropriative if you buy or wear something because it looks cool, but it's just that I find a lot of things from other cultures "cool" and fascinating, but I don't want to appropriate. Tumblr, your advice would be much appreciated.

Some information on witchcraft:
Okay, so here's the first thing; witchcraft is not a religion, it is a practice, just like arts & crafts.
If you want to find a faith based around nature I would look into various forms of paganism. If nothing suits you, find what you believe & call yourself what you like for your faith.
I don't believe in any gods, goddesses, or deities. I believe in nature as one entity made up of many entities, as far as I know, I don't fall into any specific pagan religion, but because pagan is such a large umbrella I still call myself a pagan witch.
Not all pagans are witches & not all witches are pagan. They do not go hand in hand. You may incorporate your faith into your craft, though.
Witchcraft is an natural magic. It is not supernatural, it is a science. A very complex science at that. There are many forms of magic. I only really know about witchcraft, right now. Most can be put into 2 categories; high magic. & low magic. High magic is the practice of magic that strictly uses your power. Low magic is the use of tools in your practice.
There are many ways to go about practicing witchcraft, because everyone has their own energy & view, magic is different for everyone. I think there are other things to learn before one can fully understand magic; Chemistry, physics, psychology, metaphysics, herbalism. I don't believe that the only elements in this world are earth, fire, water, & air. That is why I believe one should know chemistry. As far as books about magic to read, I have a list of recommendations that I have yet to read, but have been recommended to me by a very knowledgeable person, FaeryLizzy. I guess she is on break for the moment (the last link is her usual url, this one is what she changed it to for the time being, Idk if she's gone for good, or what: http://faerylizzy-onbreak.tumblr.com/).
Earth Mother Magicby Judika Illes
Spells and magic based on Earth lore. Gentle, sensible, and valuable. (May be out of print.)
Natural Magic by John Michael Greer
This may serve as a worthy substitute for the controversial Scott Cunningham's herb encyclopedia and other books. You will learn from it even if you do not know or care why nutmeg is fiery warm and dry in the second degree. Contains some interesting paragraphs about the differences between high magic and natural magic.
The Old Girls' Book of Spells by Cal Garrison
Slightly Wiccan, but I have noticed with satisfaction that some Wiccan kids have tried this book and found it to be strange and threatening. This book is based more on common folk magic than Wicca, and that's probably why they felt threatened. There is an interesting, albeit brief, bit about the history of women in magic at the beginning of the book. I wish she had gone further with this, but alas it's short and not footnoted. The book does address problems faced by older women, but beware that a few of the things she claims, especially about migraines and those who suffer them, are just plain wrong.
*The Element Encyclopedia of 5,000 Spells* by Judika Illes
Spells. Information on how to make it up. This is an invaluable book, a real primer for all witches no matter what their path. It explains the tools of witchcraft and does not shy away from some of the uglier aspects of the craft. Definitely not for committed Threefold Law fans, however; although the author does discuss this issue and warns against inappropriate use of magic, she is also realistic. There is a lot of history here, and overall I would call it the single most recommended book on this list outside of The Field, Wanding, and Embracing the Moon.
The thing to remember is you shouldn't take everything everyone says as fact. You listen & find what you believe & what you feel is right. If it doesn't make sense to you, don't incorporate it into you practice. Like above, I said you should learn all these things to understand magic, you don't have to, I think it's best if you do, but that is me. I don't believe there are only 4 elements in the world, but if you do, use it. Do what works for you, magic is a science, it is real, & while I believe some things people do in their craft won't work or is a bit ridiculous, it is also an art & their belief .
However, if you plan to work with other realms or beings (fae & other magical beings), I would follow the rules/guidelines. It can be very dangerous if you do not research extensively & go in without knowing anything.
