OBDSTAR DC706 Reviews and Feedback

How about OBDSTAR DC706 ECU Tool? Compared with IO Terminal, any good?

DC706 has full clone function. It supports ECM, TCM and Body/other system clone via OBD or Bench. It can read ECU info, R/W Eeprom/Dflash/Pflash/MAP, reset ECU (Virgin), calibrate mileage, read IMMO pincode, and recover ECU... make ECU cloning easy.

It only costs a third of the Full version of I/O Terminal, therefore within everyone’s reach and without using a PC, with a Tablet and everything is done.

Besides, the updates are continuous.

The disadvantage is that it doesn’t do checksum.

Review 1:

I have the Obdstar DC706 and have used it a bit. I will say one let down was I was trying to harvest a virgin file from a 6L80 through OBD. It read the eeprom quickly but after 10mins and no movement on the flash, I gave up. I know many others have said IO terminal will through OBD and most have completed 6L80 on the bench. So far, that’s been my only issue. The monthly updates are great as they are adding many new modules all the time.

Review 2:

I have i/o terminal tool and dc706. dc706 is better overall. It is so easy to set up and go. The instructions are top notch, they use real pictures of the ecu and pin out diagrams are very clear, and then they even give you step by step instructions on how to do the job. They just came out with another huge update today, added many GM bcms and ford bcms. I have seen a post recently about someone cloning a ford bcm, said they couldn't do it by obd, but bench was fine. No tool is perfect, especially when it’s so new of a tool. They are quick to respond if you contact support. In many ways it's better than I/O terminal tool, you can virginize the gm bcm, mileage correction, pin codes all from the tool. It’s easily worth the $1400 price tag.

Io terminal vs 706 ....the cost is true, but Io will do more.

Review 4:

This Obdstar dc706 tool is a good companion to the IO Terminal. This tool includes cloning for many GM PCMs and TCMs. Ford DPS6 (Dual Clutch) TCM is covered. There is much more in there. I am testing a bit at a time but so far it is pretty good. I also got the TCM cable set and P003 bench adapter.

OBDSTAR DC706 VS Foxflash ECU Programmer Review:

I have both foxflash and dc706. dc706 is much easier to get going. The way they are updating the dc706 they will have more coverage in no time.

I had a SIMTEC.75.5 and that read ok. Also, an E78 and E83. Both read ok. The E78 has the same processor as the E37.

I just went through the coverage and this dc706 tool just keeps on getting better and better. MEDG17 / MED17 found in Ford Models. The F150 Ecoboost is an MEDG17. This PCM has been a boot mode only PCM, now offered here in bench mode. I am also seeing the GPEC2 and GPEC3 PCMs listed in boot mode. Lots of FIAT BCMs are listed. This tool is the deal of the century.

As time has gone on, the updates have sorted almost all issues. It has turned into a really good tool. Absolutely love it now though. Only thing really missing is checksum calculation. But saying that, it was never marketed as a programmer but a cloner so to speak. Don't know about VAG EDC17 immo calculation during writing with the OPT areas as it now has these in its list but I have other tools for that. It'll be interesting what’s coming in future updates. Would highly recommend it now.

It does read files ...and rewrite ...but not all ecus posted on the unit are fully functional...meaning u have to read .bin files use another system for example to clone or remove immo or remove dtc...and use dc706 to write modified file back...they are updating constantly adding new features or modules....it's not a silver bullet to do all units with every feature...no tool is that way...u need to find out exactly what cars and exactly what functions u need and buy specific tool..I have about 5 different tool still not able to do all cars or trucks ...one complain I have about dc706 is mostly covers Asia and Europe cars that are not sold in USA market so if u are Europe or Asia u will get more use out of it...but over all its a good one to have in ur arsenal ..as far as checksum goes it does automatically to my knowledge..if not true maybe someone can chime in.

History of Apps

The first mobile call was made by Martin Cooper of Motorola to Dr. joel S. Engle of Bell Labs on 3April 1973. The first mobile application for a smartphone was developed for IBM Simon. The first smartphone was general used was announced by IBM in 1993, which included apps for a calculator, world clock, calendar, and contact book. The Blackberry smartphone released in 2002 integrated support for a wireless e-mail app also. IPhone was launched in 2007 with in-built apps. Apple launched the app store in july 2008 with 500 apps. About 10 million applications were downloaded during the first weekend. Google Play for Android devices was launched on 6 march 2012.

Apps are mainly of three types:

1. Desktop Apps 2. Mobile Apps 3. Web Apps

Desktop Apps

Desktop apps can only be used with PCs or laptops. Generally, they do not need internet access and can run independently on a PC or laptop. Before using any app on a computer, it needs to be purchased and installed on PC or laptop.

Once the app is installed, a small icon will appear on the desktop or with name will appear in the start menu.

Desktop apps are usually much fuller version then mobile apps and consist of all the features of a program.

Mobile Apps

Mobile apps are simpler and easier-to-use version than desktop apps as mobile apps are intended to be accessed with a finger or stylus on a small screen. These apps are of small size as mobile devices have limited memory. Most of the common apps preinstalled in a mobile device and are part of the factory settings.

Web Apps

Web apps might be full of features too but they have o leverage the capabilities of the internet connection and web, browser program, so most web apps are light weight.

These apps are stored in a remote server and the user uses these apps as a normal webpage. These web apps are designed with responsive design so that they can display well on smaller devices also. It required very less memory of the PC or mobile as it takes the resources of the server.

Classification of Mobile Apps

Mobile apps can further classified as Native Apps or Hybrid Apps.

Native Apps: Native apps are developed for specific mobile operating system such as iOS or Android. Platform- Specific language is used to build these apps.

Android app used Java, while IOS app use objective-C.

Examples- Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, etc....

Hybrid Apps: Hybrid apps are an extension of regular web apps. They just come wrapped up in the native app's shell. A hybrid app used HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS languages. This means it works like a regular website but feels and looks like a mobile app.

Example- Instagram, Uber, Amazon store, etc....

Uses of Mobile Apps

Mobile apps have now become part of life. You required an app for a purpose, the app will be available in play store or apps store from Learning to Entertainment, Social Media Platforms, Banking, Online Shopping, Ecommerce, Gaming etc.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF MOBILE APPS :-

1. Educational Apps:

> BYJU'S : It is an educational app. It has been successful in maintaining its demand among students. It caters student from pre-kindergarten to class 12. It also caters aspirants of competitive exams like IAS, JEE, and NEET examinations.

> Unacademy : It is an online platform that makes both learning and teaching easy with its educational videos and lectures.

> NCERT solution : This app includes all NCERT book solutions and popular reference books. It helps students in concentrating better as it comes with no ads.

2. Gaming Apps :

Game apps have been a top among app developers for years. This app category represents the biggest portion of app downloads. There are so many types of game apps for different target audiences, such as arcade games, brain training puzzles, or just plain silly games, launching tiny birds at pigs etc. Some mobile app games are single player, others are online, and with a group of friends. 

3. News Apps :

News apps are very popular these days. Most of us do not buy a newspaper for every updates. We get all the updates on our mobile device through news apps. To have a news app has become a necessity for all of us to stay relevant in the digital age of journalism.

What drives you to write music?

I'm not sure I put this into words. I suppose there's a need to communicate and express what language can't get at alone. To bring others into my inner world, however briefly. It's almost a sacred thing.

What does your writing process look like?

I don't write lyrics down, for one. I basically improvise. Sometimes I like to say, I sing nonsense until it becomes sense.

What is your favorite part of performing in front of an audience? Which song is your favorite to do live?

There's nothing like the connection that can happen with a great audience. There's an energy exchange that makes everyone involved a better version of themselves. I can't say I have one favorite song to sing live. Probably the best moments are when I try out a brand new song and it really lands with folks.

What song/album inspires you and why?

Man, where do I start? Tom Waits, Swordfishtrombone; Dylan, Desire. Jawbreaker, Debussy, Lucinda Williams. I could go on all day.

What are you most excited about for your Empty Room performance?

These episodes are so well done. I love the storytelling. I can't wait to share what y'all have done with the bare essentials.
