Soirée Balanchine - POB - 18/02/2020
Well that was a very nice evening
Serenade
Marion Barbeau
Emilie Cozette
Letizia Galloni and Marc Moreau
Fabien Revillon
First performance of the triple bill. I was left a bit wanting. I adore Serenade, imho Balanchine’s best work after Jewels. Here the POB dancers’ performance was a bit muted. I would have liked more freedom and abandon. Also the corps sometimes struggled with the placement and synchronization.
Emilie Cozette gave the worst performance of the entire evening. She looked clumsy and tired on stage. Mostly she gave a sense of being out of her prime. One glaring mistake during the performance.
Letizia Galloni and Marc Moreau were nice but lacked the spark.
Marion Barbeau was the heart and soul of Serenade. Lines, musicality, fluidity, presence. I thought she could give more energy but that was very good.
Concerto Barocco
Valentine Colasante
Hohyun Kang
Stéphane Bullion
Alice Catonnet, Aubane Philibert, Ida Viikinkovski, Camille Bon, Laure-Adélaïde Boucaud, Héloïse Jocqueviel, Alisha Brash, Lillian Di Piazza
Kudos to the corps for managing to keep the unisson and the rythm. Valentine Colasante and Stéphane Bullion were nice, but Hohyun Kang outshone everyone. As soon as she appeared on stage, she completely stole the show. She was a breath of fresh air, a burst of energy and joy. Received massive applause at the end, totally deserved.

all the dancers
Highlight of the evening. First time for me seing this ballet, and I loved it. It’s just so quirky and fun. The audience was laughing. The dancers were having a blast. Everyone was on! Two stand-outs:
Mathias Heymann was wonderful. Such a musical and refined dancer. Really high class. Of all the Etoiles dancing that evening, only he showed star quality.
I absolutely adore Ida Viikinkovski, since I saw her in Cinderella last season. She did not disappoint. I’m in love with the way she dances. She dances big. She knows how to occupy the stage, how to present herself. She was swift and powerful. I really want to see her one day as the Tall Girl in Rubies. I think she would splendid.
Also the corps were absolutely stunning in the Phlegmatic variation.
