What has been happening in the world of motorsports lately?
(it's very long again, so the roundup is under the cut)
Franco Colapinto becomes a new Williams driver for the last 9 races of the season, Logan Sargeant was dropped with immediate effect
apparently Franco found out on Monday only and he knows he won’t get the seat in 2025 because Carlos has already been confirmed
as a result, Oliver Goethe moves up from F3 to F2 immediately with MP Motorsport in Franco’s place and Noah Stromsted drove in his place in F3 for Campos in the last race of the season in Monza
also gentle (not so gentle) reminder that Roman Staněk was with Trident for the last race weekend in Monza and everything after is uncertain for him
the whole story is: he has two main sponsors, one of them is his own father who decided to stop supporting him, so he can no longer afford it, he got an offer for 2025 from DAMS, but they ask for € 4.7 mil
Roman got replaced by Christian Mansell for the rest of the season (he is not related to Nigel btw) in Trident
Zak O’Sullivan is in a similar situation, Monza was his last race because of funding issues despite being a part of Williams driving academy, he got replaced by Luke Browning from F3
And on top of that, there are rumours that Richard Vershoor is also unhappy in the team and looking for a way out

Ferrari announced a new technical structure: Loic Serra (technical director chassis), Fabio Montecchi (chassis project engineering), Marco Adurno (vehicle performance), Diego Tondi (aero), Matteo Togninalli (track engineering) and Diego Ioverno (sporting director and head of chassis operations), Enrico Gualtieri (power unit division)
Safety car crashed in Parabolica during a high speed test before Monza but both driver and passenger are ok and there was also another safety car ready if they are needed during the race weekend (what is concerning is a message I saw somewhere about it potentially being a brake failure)
apparently drivers were not very happy with the changes in Monza track and discussed it in length in the WhatsApp group, their main issue was that these track modifications are not communicated with drivers beforehand

Lawrence will apparently pay him massive amount of money (rumour has it it is Eddie Jordan who is asking for a big pay check for himself and many teams said no to that), after Newey and de la Rosa and Honda, he is also looking to sign Max Verstappen (and there is a possibility to get him in the team, Lance could head to WEC instead) – next thing you know he will also sign Christian Horner and Checo Perez to have a full RBR
Nico Rosberg, Guenther Steiner (and somebody else I freaking forgot, maybe Ted Kravitz) spoke about neither Kimi nor George having their seat secure for 2026, because Toto Wolff is still eyeing any opportunity to sign Max Verstappen

F2: Martins on pole once again for ART Grand Prix in Silverstone qualifying
Victor Martins made it two pole positions in a row during F2 qualifying at Silverstone, sealing his third P1 start of the 2023 season. The ART Grand Prix and Alpine Academy driver led the way for the majority of the session and saved his best for last, pipping Campos Racing’s Kush Maini to the top spot on the grid. Maini’s P2 finish was his best result of an impressive rookie campaign so far, as he secured a front row start in a Formula 2 Feature Race for the first time. Ayumu Iwasa was third for DAMS. Pace-setter in Free Practice, the Red Bull Junior Team driver was fighting for pole throughout but couldn’t quite match Martins’ pace when it counted. F3: Fornaroli takes first F3 pole for Trident at Silverstone The session was disrupted by two red flag stoppages. The first came after a crash for Invicta Virtuosi Racing’s Amaury Cordeel. The Belgian spun in the opening 10 minutes, hitting the barriers at Copse. A second pause to correct the session timer prompted a flurry of late improvements with under five minutes remaining of the session. Jack Doohan went fourth for Invicta Virtuosi Racing to continue his improved form on a Friday. It is the fourth consecutive weekend the Alpine Academy man has started from inside the top five following the in-season test at Barcelona. Leading the British charge, Oliver Bearman secured P5 for PREMA Racing, a strong result after ending up 19th in Spielberg one week ago. The Rodin Carlin and Red Bull Junior Team pairing of Enzo Fittipaldi and Zane Maloney line up alongside one another on the grid, sixth and seventh respectively in their team’s home event. Friday Qualifying at Spielberg

I went to Friday Qualifying at Spielberg, my first ever F1 event and just wanted to share a few of my impressions.
- it’s seriously LOUD! Especially the Formula 3 cars (F2 and F1 not so much in comparision). Of course I expected it to be loud, but I was still quite surprised when the F3 cars first went out on track.
- I was in the Red Bull grandstand and I thought it was a pretty good place to sit (although it’s not like I have anything to compare it to). Since the Red Bull Ring is a pretty short and compact track I got so see a lot of it and of course the cars drove by me often. As you can see from the picture from above it’s right next to straight between T1 and T2 and I also got a good look at T6-8. In the distance I could also see T4 and T10. In the morning when the grandstand was still pretty empty I could even see up to T3. 
- the location of the track itself is honestly just stunning with the surrounding mountains. 
- from what I experienced from the organization of the event it was overall ok: I came by train and then took a shuttle to/from the track and that went pretty much perfectly. However the actual security check by the entrance was honestly a joke. They don’t really check your bags at all, so not at all surprising there are always a tons of flares going off because I imagine they’re quite easy to bring in.
- food and drinks are predictably overpriced. My Dad was a bit disappointed that he couldn’t get a proper Coke. lol Bathroom situation was also ok and the lines weren’t that bad whenever I went (which is often lol). Also basicially the first event I ever went to where the line for the women’s bathroom was much shorter than for the men’s. 
- the dickriding of Verstappen and in extension of the Dutch fans is pretty crazy. I don’t know how many times the announcer hyped up how Verstappen is the ~world champion~ (no comment)/currently leading the championship/how he could become the drivers with the most wins at this circuit this weekend (pls no). And it felt like basicially during every break from racing they broadcasted from the grandstand in the middle (the one that’s basicially orange army central). To an extent I get it - Red Bull driver at the Red Bull owned track, the whole thing is bascially a Red Bull propaganda event. But there are fans of other drivers/teams there and at a certain point it was just eyeroll-worthy and honestly even gave me a bit of secondhand embarassment. 
- and of course the behavior of a lot of Dutch fans was pretty yikes to say the least. First of all the cheering at Lewis’ crash was just gross. You could definitely feel how gleeful a lot of people where at his crash - basicially at every replay they showed of the crash another cheer erupted. Shameful. (and to a lesser extent there were also cheers at George’s crash).  Secondly, in terms of what a lot of women reported concerning harassment: I personally didn’t really experience anything of the sort (thankfully), but it was definitely not super comfortable to be among the orange masses (and I’d like to add that 1. I was there with my Dad, so it may have been different had I been alone/with other women and 2. while I never noticed anything aimed at me personally, basicially 90% (if not more) spoke Dutch so who the fuck knows what may have been said).
- I would honestly love to go again, because getting to see F1 cars (and F2/F1) in person was really cool and like I said, the location is really great, it wasn’t too expensive imo (I paid 50€ for one day which I thought was reasonable, don’t know how much weekend tickets are) and it’s the closest and most accesible circuit to me, but honestly with the way it panders to the Dutch/Verstappen fans and with the reports of their behaviour I don’t know if I would wanna go to this specific circuit again, because that’s just not a very welcoming atmosphere. I would hope that something changes but honestly I doubt it, because I unfortunately don’t think the Red Bull Ring as an organization has much interest in punishing the Dutch fans (because lbr they’re making RB a lot of money). And well, Red Bull (talking about Red Bull GmbH) is a pretty questionable company itself, to put it lightly. I hope this gets enough bad press that they’re forced to do something. I feel like if Verstappen gets his second (well first legit) title this year, which at this point seems like the most likely outcome, his fans will only get worse and places like the Red Bull Ring will only become more hostile to anyone who isn’t a Verstappen fan, which is honestly just sad.  Well, in conclusion I would still say it was a positive experience and I would love to go to another F1 GP (and maybe the whole weekend this time), but I’m gonna have to seriously consider whether that will be at Spielberg.

OH yes this is one hell of a distraction thank u skdjfkg let’s go! i’m mainly focusing on juri and marcus here since i really only paid attention to the both of them (in f3 at least) up until spa.
disclaimer before we start: my memory is bad and it is possible i remember some things wrong and finding sources on the messy f3 website is a PAIN so some info might be inaccurate
so the 2019 championship kicked off in barcelona, which was a mess in true f3 fashion. 2 guys hit each other on the way to the grid, i think one started from the pit lane and the other had too much damage?? boys, the race doesn’t start until lights out smh. this was also the race where christian lundgaard crossed the line first, parked his car at the 1st sign and then it was cruelly taken from him because of a 5 second penalty for virtual safety car infringement and no one told him until he was already out of his car skdfjsg it was sad but also kinda hilarious and a goddamn mess. i remember reading it on the f1 website at the time bc i didn’t watch f3 at this point. juri did alright here, think he got a podium in race 2. the premas were already pretty dominant but christian was up there as well.
season progresses, juri gets his penalty cancelled in france (icon, really. who else can say that) and apparently does not have a good time in race 2. he also did a kimi impression somewhere on the radio (’leave me alone’). marcus didn’t like france either bc he stalled at the start, got back up front, got tapped around and still finished in the points both races. f3 france = mess. spielberg brings my favorite top 3 of any f3 race ive seen so far. marcus starts on pole, so far the only prema who hasnt won a race yet, max fewtrell p2 and juri p3. somewhere during the race marcus and juri swap places and max minds his business in p2. great podium, dont remember this race at all sjdfgks. race 2 still has me cackling even tho it probs wasn’t that funny, but marcus and rob were arguing over the lead and they collided (on the final lap, i think), sending marcus off with a puncture and rob actually still won but got a penalty which demoted him to second. rule number 1 of motorsports, lads. rule number 1. do not hit your teammate. would’ve loved to be jehan in that team debrief. 
at this point, juri is considered a title contender. he will be considered a title contender until monza. more on that shitshow later. he knocks it out the park in silverstone (race 1 win, pole) and talks start up about juri to toro rosso 2020 (i mightve been one of them). this, of course, all depends on juri getting enough super licence points. budapest, marcus’ first win in f3. don’t remember much else tbh, wasn’t that eventful i guess?? aaaand then we get to spa. saturday is fine for them since they race in the morning as opposed to late afternoon for f2. robert’s still in the lead by far, jehan and juri following but since there’s only 2 rounds to go after this so mistakes are costly. juri learns this the hard way in spa race 2 but i cant blame any of them for mistakes made in spa and monza one week later, or sochi for that matter. i think marcus won that race and dedicated it to anthoine but im p sure i didnt see much through my tears this day. juri scores no points, damages his front wing somewhere and gets a black and orange flag to come in for damage repairs. monza, also a disaster. also do not blame them. both marcus and juri did not have a good time, i remember juri launching himself into space over the rear wing of another car and marcus got p2 in race 1 but was penalised heavily for one thing or another, and ended up p21 and far outside the points. 
juri’s no longer a contender for the title, neither is marcus. the title will be decided between jehan and robert in sochi, at that point p2 and p1 respectively. sochi was also a mess for juri, considering he spun christian around in a low speed corner while the safety car was ending. to this day i have no idea what on earth he was doing but it does make for great banter between juri and christian. with the penalty following, juri drops from p3 to p8 and misses valuable points. robert wins the championship, marcus wins the race. jehan has a terrible time in the last race and gets demoted to p3 in the championship because marcus said sayonara and fucked off with another podium and a fastest lap. juri is p4 and is 17 points short for p3. not enough super licence points. he does win the final race of the season, tho his face says he knows hes about to have a very uncomfortable conversation with helmut marko. still pains me. 
to conclude, it all got away from juri in spa and i think thats very understandable considering the circumstances. it started out very promising but just. ended up falling short. he was the only driver to even remotely challenge the premas last season tho, in terms of championship. and this is why same spec racing is so exciting! we’ve seen it again in f3 this year with a very very tight championship. one bad weekend can throw your entire season off.

French teenager secures FIA F3 Jenzer drive

The 18-year-old Frenchman made his debut in the category last season when he replaced Max Fewtrell at Hitech GP for the Spa-Francorchamps and Monza rounds, recording a best result of sixth in Race 2 at the Italian Grand Prix.
Chovet joins the Switzerland-based Jenzer Motorsport outfit after claiming fifth overall in the Formula Regional European Championship last season, scoring a win, a pole and seven podiums in the process.
He will race alongside Australian Calan Williams, who was unveiled at Jenzer earlier this month.
“Following my few experiences in FIA F3 at the end of last year, I decided to compete in the whole 2021 season with the Jenzer Motorsport team,” said Chovet.
“The state-of-the-art technical know-how and the atypical approach of Andreas Jenzer’s team, as well as its human quality and its focus on FIA F3 are three of the factors that convinced me to jump within this innovative project.
“Competing in this category since the very beginning of GP3, again, with its own and original approach, Jenzer Motorsport contributed largely to the development of Yuki Tsunoda who is reaching F1 this year.
“I can’t wait to start working and drive my beast for the first official testing days in Jerez on the 25th and 26th of February.”
Team Principal Andreas Jenzer added: “We’re really excited to start working with Pierre-Louis on track. Judging by what he has shown so far, we see great potential and an exciting F3 season ahead for all of us.”
Chovet is set to line up on the FIA F3 grid in the season opener at the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona on 7-9 May.
Three two-day tests are scheduled across Jerez, Barcelona and Spielberg prior to the new campaign.
There are still plenty of seats yet to be secured on the 2021 F3 grid, with only champion team Prema Racing and Hitech GP announcing their full driver line-ups thus far.

F2: Verschoor earns Spielberg Feature Race redemption
Richard Verschoor brought early celebrations to the scores of Dutch fans at the Red Bull Ring with victory in the Formula 2 Feature Race in Austria. Disqualified from the Feature Race win last year, Verschoor made the most of the alternative strategy to beat out Ayumu Iwasa and Frederik Vesti in a hectic final few laps, taking Van Amersfoort Racing’s first victory in Formula 2. F3: Zak O’Sullivan wins back-and-forth Feature Race in Spielberg Championship leader Vesti snatched the lead off the line, as pole-sitter Victor Martins got bogged down and dropped fifth by the end of Lap 2. Once Vesti and the rest of the soft runners pitted, Enzo Fittipaldi assumed the lead on Lap 10 ahead of Verschoor. Things swiftly turned on their head in the final 13 laps. Arthur Leclerc was forced to pull off with a missing wheel following his pit stop, triggering a Virtual Safety Car. Quickly switched to a full Safety Car, it gifted Verschoor a chance to pit, as Fittipaldi remained out one lap longer and dropped back to ninth. When racing resumed on Lap 33, Verschoor stormed his way past Martins and Theo Pourchaire on fresh tyres before pulling himself into a four-car battle for the win. Vesti and Jack Doohan tried to hold Verschoor and Iwasa back on their worn softs, but the pair eventually breezed through. Duelling in a final lap drag race to the line, Verschoor placed his car to perfection to hold off Red Bull junior Iwasa’s many attempts. Vesti extended his championship lead over Theo Pourchaire to 20 points in third, ahead of Doohan. F2: Crawford claims maiden win in slippery Spielberg Sprint Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman bounced back on the prime-option strategy, fighting back from 19th to finish fifth. F2: Crawford claims maiden win in slippery Spielberg Sprint
Red Bull junior Jak Crawford impressed at his academy’s home event in Austria, taking his first Formula 2 victory in the Sprint Race. A pre-race shower saw the field split between slicks and wets and, although he lost the lead at the start, the Hitech Pulse-Eight driver looked untroubled once he returned to the front of the field on Lap 6. Victor Martins and Clement Novalak also benefitted from running the softs, as they made their way to the podium from P10 and P20, respectively. F2: Alpine junior Martins untouchable in Spielberg qualifying Starting on the wet tyres, Arthur Leclerc utilised the better traction from third to take the lead from reverse grid pole-sitter Crawford at Turn 4. However, the DAMS driver boxed under the second of two early Safety Cars within the first five laps, after both Jehan Daruvala and Richard Verschoor spun off in separate incidents. Meanwhile, Martins charged through the order overtaking Zane Maloney and Juan Manuel Correa to get into second but couldn’t catch up to Crawford. Novalak too went late on the brakes, dispatching the Van Amersfoort Racing driver for third and allowing Hitech’s Isack Hadjar to follow him through. F2: Alpine junior Martins untouchable in Spielberg qualifying
Victor Martins went from strength to strength in qualifying at the Red Bull Ring, as he secured his second pole position of his rookie Formula 2 season. The Frenchman maintained his hold on the top spot throughout, pipping championship leader Frederik Vesti by 0.139s. The title fight continues to heat up as the Mercedes junior outqualified his nearest rival Theo Pourchaire, who secured a 1-3 for ART Grand Prix. F3: Saucy on pole after Aron loses fastest lap in Spielberg As drivers squabbled for track position around the short Austrian circuit, Martins stayed out of the fray. Going fastest on his first attempt, his 1:14.926 kept him ahead of Amaury Cordeel throughout the opening half. Bolting on a second set of the soft tyres, the Alpine junior posted a 1:14.643 to remain out front, as Vesti and Pourchaire improved into the top three in the final minutes. Kush Maini bounced back from a disappointing Barcelona weekend to take fourth, as track limits forced Jack Doohan to settle for fifth. Sixth-placed Enzo Fittipaldi looked rapid throughout but couldn’t put it all together, after Jehan Daruvala rejoined the track in his path and then suffering a huge lock up on his next run. Cordeel held on to seventh ahead of Arthur Leclerc, Daruvala and Jak Crawford, who rounded out the top 10. F3: Marti takes lights-to-flag win in Barcelona Feature Race
Josep Maria Marti gave Spanish fans a huge cause for celebration, as he claimed his first Formula 3 Feature Race victory with a dominant performance at his, and Campos Racing’s, home race ahead of Williams junior Franco Colapinto and Ferrari protégé Dino Beganovic. Leading every lap, Marti held off Taylor Barnard off the line, whilst contact between Leonardo Fornaroli and Luke Browning at Turn 4 on the opening lap brought the Hitech Pulse-Eight driver’s day to an end and summoned the Safety Car. F2: Bearman claims his third win of the season as he dominates Barcelona Feature race Marti went early on the restart to keep Barnard at bay, with the Jenzer Motorsport driver eventually dropping back through the field after a mid-race mistake at the final corner. Sprint Race winner Zak O’Sullivan went three-wide into Turn 1 on Lap 19, as he and Gregoire Saucy overtook Oliver Goethe. However, contact between the #6 Trident’s front wing and #8 ART Grand Prix car left Saucy dropping down the order with a puncture. Bortoleto secured back-to-back fourth place finishes to retain his hold on the Drivers’ Championship on 92, with Marti moving up to second on 68. Aron finished fifth, as Boya brought home two points finishes for MP Motorsport at home in sixth. F3: O’Sullivan beats fellow Williams junior Browning for Barcelona Sprint Race win Montoya finished seventh ahead of O’Sullivan, after the Williams junior overtook Barnard on the penultimate lap. Formula 2 and Formula 3 reveal race calendars for 2023 season
Formula 2 and Formula 3 have announced their calendars for the 2023 season with both championships featuring events across three continents for the first time – including their highly anticipated debuts in Australia. Continuing the two-race format alongside the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend, the F2 crown will be fought over 14 rounds, while F3 will feature a record-breaking 10 rounds. Both campaigns will kick off in Sakhir, Bahrain on March 3-5, before F2 flies solo a fortnight later in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on March 17-19. The two will reunite for their debut at Melbourne’s Albert Park at the end of the month, from March 31 – April 2. F2: Armstrong enjoys commanding lights-to-flag victory in Spielberg Sprint Race
Marcus Armstrong was untouchable around the Red Bull Ring, as the New Zealander dominated to lead the way from lights out to the chequered flag in Spielberg in the Formula 2 Sprint Race. Pulling away from the field, the race was all about precision – keeping within track limits, as several drivers fell foul to time penalties and the Hitech Grand Prix driver executed the race perfectly. Surprisingly, the race featured no Safety Cars and only one very short Virtual Safety Car appearance for Liam Lawson, who limped back to the pits following an issue with his Carlin car. F3: Crawford scores first win in dramatic Austria Sprint Race Theo Pourchaire found himself facing a nervous final five laps, as Alpine Academy junior Jack Doohan put himself squarely in his mirrors when the Frenchman opted to tread cautiously, so as not to fall foul of the track limits. However, the Sauber junior was able to hold on to the second step of the podium ahead of the Australian, who made it two Sprint Race podiums in a row. Championship leader Felipe Drugovich continued to make consistency the backbone of his title fight in fifth, as he holds on to the lead, 40 points clear of Pourchaire. Juri Vips was the biggest mover, as he rose up from ninth on the grid to fifth. Richard Verschoor defended right until the end, managing to hold off Logan Sargeant for sixth, as Enzo Fittipaldi rounded out the points scorers in eighth following a five-second time penalty for Red Bull junior Ayumu Iwasa for forcing Sargeant off at Turn 3 on the opening lap. Fittipaldi had spent much of the race duelling back and forth with Mercedes junior Frederik Vesti on the edge of the points. A second win of the season promotes Armstrong to fifth in the Championship, as the top four hold firm. Drugovich leads ahead of Pourchaire, while Sargeant sits in third as the highest-placed rookie. Jehan Daruvala is 10 points behind the American in fourth. MP Motorsport sit six points clear of ART Grand Prix in the Teams’ Championship on 176 points. Next best are Carlin, who remain in third ahead of PREMA Racing. Two cars inside the top five has allowed Hitech Grand Prix to close within three points of fourth. F2: Vesti leaves it late to secure maiden pole position in Spielberg
Mercedes junior Frederik Vesti put it all on the line in Qualifying in Spielberg. Relegated to the bottom of the timing sheets after his first attempt was deleted for track limits, a do-or-die last-ditch attempt in the final minutes was enough for him to claim his first pole position in Formula 2. Featuring the fewest corners on the calendar, the Red Bull Ring witnessed heavy traffic during Qualifying, as several drivers found their best attempts hampered by those up ahead, particularly on the second runs on the purple-walled Pirelli supersofts. F3: Hadjar takes maiden pole in Austria Three thousandths of a second separated the top two, as Juri Vips claimed second ahead of Williams Racing junior Logan Sargeant. However, it was Ayumu Iwasa who caught everyone’s attention as the session drew to a conclusion. While his rivals headed into the pits as the chequered flag was waved, the Red Bull junior was on an absolute flyer and snatched fourth at the eleventh hour from Championship leader Felipe Drugovich. Early pace setter Jack Doohan had to settle for sixth, while Amaury Cordeel brought home his and Van Amersfoort Racing’s best Qualifying result in F2 so far in seventh. Richard Verschoor took eighth, as track limit violations elsewhere worked in Theo Pourchaire and Marcus Armstrong’s favour, as the pair held on to the final top 10 spots. With second and third place silverware from the Red Bull Ring already, Armstrong will be looking to add a winners’ trophy to his cabinet when he lines up on reverse grid pole.
