personal opinion
People goes too hard on George just because he is in Mercedes 2nd seat. Most of them never take to an account that George spent 2 years (i don't count 2021 Williams as bad for him) in a dogshit tractor of a car and is basically the extension of his F2 career but he is racing amongst other F1 cars. Then after 2021, he jumps into the second seat of a big team who is in a slump with ANOTHER tractor he needs to drive but he managed to get like 7 podiums, 1 sprint win, 1 race win, and 1 pole position of his career. He outscored his 7x World Champion teammate (ik LH luck is also shit in 2022 but still.. it's an achievement). Then in 2023, even though his luck is shit, he still matches the 7x world champion teammate in quali h2h. Imo if you put random driver from George's gen, (exc for maybe CL or MV) idt they can even get close to matching LH while at the same time handling the tractor of W13 & W14. Being able to handle such shitty car itself and outperform it while trying to match ur 7x world champ teammate is a skill and a feat itself.
People always say shit like George is gonna end up burn out after being LH's teammate just like VB or Kovalainen or prolly FA but it's all bullshit and semi copium narratives that people force themselves to believe when George is nowhere near the word burn out. One thing about George? His confidence and his mentality. Pulling himself up after each week of getting screwed by his own team and car while being pitted and pressured by the public to outperform his 7x world champion teammate with 10+ years of experience is not an easy feat to do yet George Russell manage to do it week in and week out.
I get pissed off at people thinking he's over just because he doesn't have 10293737 wins and poles and WDC at the age of 25. Like?? There are drivers in a better car, older than him that can win or at least compete for the WDC but didn't or drivers that fucked up the same or even more than george but somehow never gets painted as bad as George.
Again. For someone who drove F2 level car amongst in F1 for 2 years. For someone who almost matches his 7x world champion teammate with 10+ years of experience (despite George himself having only 1 year of real racing aka 2021 beforehand) is a big feat.
Not everyone can do this shit. You need big amount of skill and mental capacity to do this. And George Russell is one of the people who can do it.

also dennis is all but confirmed to be going to f2 next year. most likely with prema. i need fred and victor in f2 next year too.
staying any longer in f3 will just damage fred's career imo. already this year everyone was expecting him to be a title challenger which he hasn't quite managed to do, if he stays another year not in a prema i don't think much will change and even if he does get the title next year it'll be in his third year and people won't value it as much, so to say. if cash allows it's better he moves up.
victor should move up as well, to strike while the iron is hot. he's impressed greatly in his rookie season, he should keep that momentum going. if he stays in f3 another year he runs the same risk fred had of being expected to fight for the title and then proving underwhelming due to the premas. and i doubt he's getting a prema seat. if he goes to f2, he either takes a while to get up to speed, which would be understandable, or he comes in as a proper title challenger, and he'll keep impressing. he already has the 40 sl points he really has nothing to lose here (besides cash). alpine i am watching get your boy an f2 seat or else 🔪
other thoughts on junior silly season:
i think robert will do a third year of f2 unless he manages to snatch the championship somehow. i know a lot of dudebros still hype him up on f1twt for some reason, but if he does get an f1 seat in 2023 after doing f2 for 3 years, he'd essentially be doing the same thing guanyu is probably gonna do, and they're the same folks complaining about guanyu rn. hmm.
also, if oscar doesn't win f2, with dennis moving up robert's probably losing the prema seat to him. regardless of whether dennis wins f3 (although that's like a foregone conclusion at this point). sure, robert is an f3 champ too, but recency bias plus dennis being one of marko's special little boys will swing the odds in his favour. without the prema seat i'm not sure if robert would want to continue in f2 or peace out to some other series, but if he does want to stay i'm sure the power of smp racing will let him find a seat elsewhere.
jüri and liam should and probably would stay another season in f2. now that jüri has his superlicense and helps out with the sim and f1 testing i doubt marko will banish him to superformula again. (hope i didn't jinx it) liam has impressed in dtm, rb might even want him to continue this double season setup he's got going on.
jehan i love you but f2 does not. he should go. he was going to do a young driver test for mahindra, he can look in that direction. carlin might replace one red bull junior with another, and take jack doohan, who i think will probably be moving up to f2 as well.
as richard is supposedly signed to mp motorsport on a race by race basis, it shouldn't be that hard for them to drop him in favour of getting victor into f2, as they'd have the benefit of continuity and also probably more money. would be a bummer for richard, that's for sure. (god that pun.) he is doing better than lirim tho, with the all important win and 7 places higher than him in the standings...perhaps that could prove enough for mp motorsport to keep him permanently? we will see.
christian is not going to stay. i can feel it in my bones. he's going to indycar. there isn't any reason for christian to stay anymore. he's getting overshadowed in the alpine academy which already is notorious for being very bad at getting drivers into f1. he's bailed and he'll find a career elsewhere. you know what. good for him. this should leave an art seat open for fred to progress to after this season. the downside? it's art gp, junior home of the second driver curse, and his teammate is going to be theo pourchaire. it would be tough, but if fred can make it work and bring a challenge to theo, it'll definitely look good for him.
arthur should stay. he needs another year to find his footing. olli hasn't had any moments where i felt he was ready to move up either. sorry.
clem probably would be moving up but does he really want a fucking trident

hey elle, how’s it going?
so in 2020, nicky was needed to keep williams afloat but seeing as now theyre doing better and have new owners what are the odds of nyck de vries to get a williams seat in 2022/2023? i feel its a bit sad that a f2 champ doesnt have a f1 drive. i understand its because of his luck and how there wasnt any open seat for him to fill and bcs it took him 3 years to win the title but if mazeshit can get a seat its just sad that actual talents like him cant. Also, this may be hopeful but i hope callum gets a f1 seat in 2022, maybe with alfa romeo? i dont really see kimi going on for another year. have a nice day <3
hey Anon! I’m okay, thank you, I hope you’re doing good as well!! 🧡
about the chances of Nyck getting an F1 seat: to be honest, it really surprised me when they announced Nyck was testing the F1 car and was also going to be the Mercedes’ driver for this year. I was honestly thinking that Mercedes weren’t that interested in developing him anymore and I also didn’t think there was any chance he was ever going to be in F1. however, now that they promoted him... I think there’s a small chance? I guess it would be like a chain-reaction kind of thing: Lewis retires (which could be possible after this year), then George gets that promotion and then they have an empty seat next to Nicholas, if they choose to keep him. I do have to say that I think the chances are bigger of them promoting Jack instead of Nyck, but there could also be the possibility of Williams not keeping Nicholas and them filling up the seat with two rookies. to be honest though, I don’t really see that happening. I’m not sure about the financial situation at Williams right now, but Nicholas is an okay driver (definitely good enough for a team like Williams) and the money he brings is probably helping the team a lot. so do I think there could be a chance of Nyck being promoted to F1 soon? only in a very specific situation, as I don’t think he would be the team’s first choice. and it sucks, right? I love this sport, but the one thing I really, really don’t like about it is the fact that everything revolves around money. it just sucks that drivers who are actually talented and deserve a seat, can’t get a seat simply because there are drivers who pay.
about Callum’s chances of an F1 seat: I honestly believe this is possible!! last year when it was announced that Kimi signed for another year, I was actually really surprised. I really thought he would retire, so I guess that automatically makes me think that he will retire after this year. it also wouldn’t really surprise me if Alfa Romeo would decide to not sign Antonio for another year, which means they would start next year with two rookies. I think there’s a lot of opportunity for Callum to get a seat at either Alfa Romeo or Haas, so I honestly really think we could see him on the grid next year or the year after!!
I hope this explains my thoughts well, Anon. I hope you’re having a good day and enjoy the testing weekend! 🧡

He deserves a chance Wolff says Mercedes role can help Schumacher get back into an F1 race seat
Toto Wolff says Mick Schumacher’s new role as Mercedes reserve driver could help him get back on the grid in 2024 – a chance the young German “deserves”, according to the Silver Arrows boss. Schumacher, 23, spent two years racing with Haas, but left the team at the end of the season when they opted to sign fellow German Nico Hulkenberg for next year. READ MORE: Mick Schumacher to join Mercedes as reserve driver for 2023 On Thursday, Mercedes confirmed Schumacher would be joining them as a reserve driver – a move Wolff says is a chance for the 2020 Formula 2 champ to “reassess” himself. Speaking before the announcement on F1’s Beyond The Grid podcast, Wolff said: “I really like Mick and I like the family – how they have raised their kids with this unbelievably famous name – and I think he deserves a chance. “He won [the Formula 2 title] and that is not easy. Things can go against you in your first years in Formula 1. He was under pressure to deliver and that doesn’t help, and Formula 1 is brutal. Maybe, in a way, having a year off as a third driver – similar to what Daniel [Ricciardo is doing with Red Bull] – can be good to reassess yourself and bring yourself in a better place and hopefully find a seat again.” Wolff insists Schumacher has the talent to succeed in F1 – especially given his impressive junior career. “He always impressed me from his personality. The first time I met him, which was in his first year in [European] Formula 3 in Hockenheim, he’s just a good person. [He] won [European] F3, won F2 – that can’t come out of nowhere,” he said. BEYOND THE GRID: ‘We learn the most when we lose’ – Wolff hopes rivals will ‘regret’ Mercedes’ 2022 struggles In joining Mercedes, Mick is following in his father Michael’s footsteps, who came out of retirement to drive for the team across a three-year spell from 2010 to 2012. Wolff said he got to know Michael when he joined Mercedes as a shareholder in 2013, but did not want to make comparisons between father and son. “Obviously everyone is different, and I wouldn’t do Mick nor Michael any justice by commenting here on their characters,” he said. “Certainly Mick is an intelligent young man that can drive.” Click on the audio player below to listen to the full episode with Toto Wolff – or head here to listen on your preferred podcast player. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com
