Summary: Joey decides that something has to change when Rachel gets pregnant and decides that she needs to move out before the baby comes.
——————————————————————————————————
Something had been going on with Joey recently.
Ever since he found out that Rachel was pregnant, he’d been acting strangely, even more than normal. For Joey, strange had never been that big of a deal for you, but this was different.
Just this morning, you walked in on him leafing through her mothering journals. The kinds with large passages of terrifying information, the ones with those awful diagrams that even you shuddered at.
They were a new kind of horror for a person with a uterus. All you could think about was all the pain you’d be in if you were in that position.
Nonetheless, It was the first thing you’d seen Joey read that wasn’t porn or full of pictures. You had no idea what was going on, or what could have possessed him to do that in the first place.
In any case though, you weren’t going to argue.
Since getting the news of Rachel’s pregnancy, you had all been doing things a little differently than normal. You just assumed that whatever he was going through, it was so he could be prepared for the baby.
Admittedly, you’d been getting ready for the big change too, shopping for baby blankets and clothes almost every time that you were out.
You couldn’t help it, this was a big deal for all of you.
...And you were really excited.
This was something that was going to change your entire friend group, and the first baby between you was a huge deal. None of you had really gotten to see Ben as a baby too much, after all.
It was wonderful to think about a baby, now that you were all getting to that stage in your lives. Chandler and Monica were married, and now Rachel was having a baby.
A baby that was going to be living in your apartment.
Or, so you thought.
You’d been talking to her the last few days, and evidently, Rachel wasn’t sure if she wanted to live with you and Joey once the baby got here. She just wasn’t sure if it was going to be the best idea.
The two of you lived very free lives, and she wasn’t sure how a baby was going to fit in with that.
Having her move in with you was one thing but bringing a literal infant into that wasn’t as small. It was going to change everything and it just didn’t seem like the two of you had quite realized that yet.
Moving seemed like the best thing she could do right now, to just get a fresh start with this new addition to her life.
“What are you doing, Joe?” you asked, a small smile on your face as you lent over the back of the recliner, catching an eyeful of a colorful diagram of how big a baby would be at sixteen weeks.
At least it wasn’t a hospital photo of cesarean sections like the last time you’d flipped through one of these books.
If it were, you were sure that Joey wouldn’t still be sitting there.
From the looks of it, he’d been reading quite a bit and it was sort of endearing. You had never seen anyone as excited about someone else’s baby as Joey was right now.
He was just so sweet, and at times like this, it was hard not to swoon over how truly gentle and decent he was. You had never been with someone as good as he was.
Joey smiled, leaning over to press a soft kiss to the side of your face, before going back to the book in his grasp. He’d been learning so much about this whole thing, and you were just the person he wanted to see.
“Did you know at sixteen weeks, a baby is the size of an apple...look at this” he asked, pointing at the little diagram in question, this look of amusement crossing his face that brought a smile to yours.
He was really into this whole thing.
It was endearing, if nothing else.
“That’s crazy, look at that” you hummed, only briefly looking at the picture before letting your gaze drift over to his face instead.
He was so sweet, so incredible, and you didn’t realize just how lucky you were until times like this. It was easy to forget how lucky you were, sometimes.
“All this stuff with Rachel’s got me thinking, We should have a baby”
There was a calm decidedness about how he talked to you about it, like he’d thought it all out and perhaps that was because he had. Ever since Rachel told you two that she was thinking about moving out, he’d been really thinking about what he wanted.
As it would turn out, what he wanted was to have a family with you. All this baby stuff; the books, the clothes, the tiny shoes you insisted on playing with in the store, it had all been adding up lately.
He wanted to have a baby, a baby with you.
Now, you assumed that he was going to laugh or make a joke about it but that didn’t seem to be the case. Evidently, Joey was being serious and that was something you hadn’t seen coming.
Casually, you made your way around the front of the recliner, not even hesitating to sit down on his lap. You had no idea where this was coming from, and to be honest, you were a little lost.
Not that it was a bad idea.
Joey was the greatest guy you’d ever dated and you loved him more than anything, you had just never taken him for the family type. In all the time you’d been dating, you had never talked about kids before.
It was news to you, but not bad news. You just wanted to make sure that he really understood what this meant, what he was really suggesting, before you agreed to anything like this.
After all, you and Joey hadn’t even talked about marriage before, and now he wanted to have a baby.
It wasn’t exactly a lateral move.
“Are you serious about this? You know what that means” you clarified, hoping that at some point, he would get where you were going. The two of you lived the sort of lifestyle that didn’t exactly lend itself to a child.
Everything would change if you had a baby.
Joey didn’t answer at first, giving you a soft nod as he waited for you to explain what you meant. You were stumbling through this too, but at least you were thinking clearly.
You got this feeling that Joe was blindsided by his desire to start a family, and he wasn’t thinking about what this would mean practically.
“It means you’d have to wear pants around the apartment, we can’t drink beer for breakfast anymore, and going out at the drop of a hat isn’t an option” you explained, worried that he hadn’t thought about that.
It was a huge step and you just didn’t see this happening today, not when you got out of the shower, not when you put on a pair of sweatpants, and not now.
You just felt like your head was spinning, but really, you just didn’t want to get your hopes up if it wasn’t what he wanted. .
“I know that, that kind of stuff doesn’t matter. We’ll be able to do all kinds of other things with a baby” he shrugged, handling this far better than you were.
He was so confident that this would work out that nothing else even seemed to matter.
“Well, I guess we can start thinking about that, if you’re sure” you hummed, gingerly snuggling up to his chest, your lips finding his own as you look into his eyes.
This was really happening.
Joey wanted to have a baby.

Not Bad at All

Ross Geller x Plus size!reader

Summary: Watching scary movies with Ross
——————————————————————————————————
You had always loved scary movies.
There was just something about them, something that appealed to you and kept you on the edge of your seat. However, you had yet to find anyone that would enjoy them with you.
Joey had already seen the few that he enjoyed, and didn’t like branching out to new ones unless he could take some hot chick he could hold on to during the entire thing.
Phoebe said that horror movies reminded her of the things she saw that one time she was abducted by aliens. Monica thought they were boring, Rachel was much more of a romcom chick, and Chandler was scared, though he’d never admit it.
It just seemed like no one would ever be your movie buddy, and you’d made peace with that.
Until tonight.
You had found yourself all alone in Chandler and Joey’s shared apartment, as the latter was currently on a date with whatever lucky girl had caught his attention tonight, and the former was with Monica.
Initially, your plan was to watch it in Monica and Rachel’s apartment, but the blonde was currently watching Sixteen Candles, a fine movie but not one you cared to see more than once every six months.
It just didn’t do anything for you like scary movies did.
In any case though, the boys being gone gave you the perfect opportunity to watch a really good movie. Namely, you had chosen the 1982 classic, The Thing, from the video store.
All that was left to do was pop the popcorn and put on your pajamas, but before you could, there was a knock at the door. A knock, followed very quickly by the door opening, and whoever it was making themselves at home.
You weren’t sure who it could be, as Joey didn’t get through dinner without at least three courses, and Chandler would probably be with Mon all night.
However, when you turned around to investigate, you found that the visitor was neither of the men you’d been expecting. Instead, it was Ross, standing there waiting for some kind of explanation.
He hadn’t been expecting to see you either, evidently.
“Hey, sorry. The guys are out” you explained, earning an accepting nod from the male before answering his follow-up question that he hadn’t been able to answer you.
“Rachel’s watching sixteen candles”
Another knowing nod.
You had never been one for those kinds of movies, and neither had Ross, in all honesty. He’d watched them a few times, at her request, when they were dating but not once since then.
“And what are you up to?” he asked finally, setting his bag down by the front door, his quest to find your shared friends long gone. You were clearly set up to do something, an unpopped bag of popcorn in hand.
He just wanted to know what that might be.
“Oh, I was going to watch a movie. Do you want to join me?” you questioned, just sort of assuming that he was going to say no. Everyone else had made it abundantly clear that they weren’t interested.
However, it didn't even take a moment for Ross to accept your offer, a small smile on his face.
In all honesty, it didn’t matter what you asked or what you were watching, Ross was almost guaranteed to agree. In all the time that he’d known you, he’d been searching for every opportunity to spend time with you.
It just hadn’t happened yet.
You’d known each other for years, and been friends for just as long, but he hadn’t been able to spend any time alone with you in all that time. This would be the first chance he would get, and he wasn’t going to miss it.
“Is this what we’re watching?” he asked, picking up the case from the counter to look it over. You had already headed to get on your pajamas, which you’d packed for your movie night, ready to get cozy for the night.
There was only one thing you hadn’t thought of before now.
Where you were going to sit.
When it was just you, the recliner seemed like a perfect option but now that you two were planning on spending the next few hours together, you weren’t sure if he’d be into that.
You and Ross had never really been that close before.
“Yeah, I hope that’s alright” you hummed, pulling your shirt over your head before heading out to the living room from the bathroom, finding the man there just as buttoned up as he normally was.
He hadn’t even taken his shoes off yet, but at least he had decided to stick around. Having company was never a bad thing, not for you.
Years of being friends with Joey had gotten you pretty used to company out of nowhere, especially when you ordered a pizza or he smelled popcorn from down the hall.
It just kind of came with the territory.
“Sure, sure, it’s great” he shrugged, rocking back and forth a little bit on his feet as he looked at the recliner. Evidently, he was thinking the same thing you had been before.
Sitting there together would be the only option you had, unless one of you was going to sit on the floor.
Casually though, you decided that one of you was going to have to do something or else you’d spend the rest of the night staring at one another. So, rather than do that, you plopped down in the chair and waited for him to join you.
Not bringing attention to it seemed to be the best way to go about this.
“So, you like this movie?” he asked, fifteen minutes or so into the movie starting. You felt the need to explain to him that you wouldn't have rented the movie if you didn’t like it but you knew he meant well.
Ross was kind of awkward to begin with, and you didn’t want to make this any more awkward.
“I love it. I’m sure horror movies aren’t your thing though” you decided, science fiction and documentaries seemed to be much more important to him, but at least he was sitting here.
It was more company than you’d been expecting tonight.
“Oh, that’s okay. If you like it, I’m sure it’s amazing” he shrugged, doing his best to be casual as he put his arm around your shoulders. It just seemed like the thing to do, so that there would be more room.
Though, of course, that wasn’t the real reason he’d decided to do that.
The two of you had been dancing around each other all this time and now that it was just you here, it seemed like the thing to do. Worst case, it wouldn’t work out, and you’d just move on.
It wouldn’t be the first time he’d gotten rejected.
“Yeah, it’s not too bad” you allowed, speaking slowly as you took notice of how close you were to one another. As soon as you looked at him, you could hardly breathe, everything you were saying far from your mind.
He was looking at you, fully focused on your face, and that wasn’t something you were used to. In general, when you were near Ross, you avoided being in situations like this.
You didn’t want to deal with the way he made you feel, because there was no way he shared those feelings.
...Right?
In any case, this wasn't how you saw the night going and focusing on the movie seemed impossible. Now, taking your eyes away from him was all you could think about, and the fact that you couldn’t do it.
It was driving you insane.
“Not bad at all” he agreed, his words little more than a whisper as he thought over what he was trying to get at. Evidently, he was thinking the same thing you were.
“Ross, you aren’t watching it” you commented finally, a small smile blossoming on your lips as you called his bluff. This wasn’t something you were really thinking of doing at first, but it seemed too good to resist.
There was no way he knew how good of a movie it was while he was looking at you.
Not that either of you really minded.
“I know that” he chuckled, a small smile playing at his lips as well, until finally, he couldn’t help himself. Gingerly, Ross let himself lean into you, pressing a kiss to your lips.
You had no idea what was happening or where you were going to go from here, but in the moment, it didn’t matter.
All that mattered was that you were finally kissing him, after all these years, and it was incredible. You’d been avoiding him, sure that he didn’t feel the same way for you, and all it took was a scary movie to prove you wrong.
You couldn’t have seen that coming, but you weren’t exactly upset about it.
“Not bad at all” you agreed, repeating his earlier words when you finally pulled away to take a breath. It wasn’t the most eloquent way you could put it, but at the moment, neither of you seemed to care.
