Adopted in 1949, the F-86 Sabre was the main fighter jet used by US forces over the skies of Korea. Commonly seen in high-speed dogfights with the MiG-15, the Sabre was a prime example of an early jet fighter.

Computer Gaming World July 1997
Talking up its size (in the middle of the year, no less) on its cover, this issue’s focus on combat flight simulators promoted one simulating an established jet fighter.

“The Sabre was the primary U.S. air-to-air fighter during the Korean War. It was closely matched to the Russian-designed MiG-15 being flown by Korean, Chinese, and Soviet pilots over "MiG Alley." The American pilots were better trained than their enemies, resulting in a favorable kill ratio for the F-86. Of the 40 pilots that achieved "ace" status in Korea, all but one flew F-86s.”
“Sabre designers capitalized on captured German aerodynamic data, which showed that swept wings delayed air compressibility effects encountered at high subsonic airspeeds. Swept-wing aircraft could therefore be controlled at much higher speeds than similar straight-wing aircraft.”
