Eyjólfur Kristjánsson - Ástarævintýri (Fairy Tale Love) - transcript/translation
Oof, I've got a lot of these buried requests. This one's from the 80s and I hadn't actually heard it before. Transcript and translation below.
Icelandic transcript
English translation
Where distance makes the mountains blue I'll find you, my love, behind shut doors with lock and key I'll sneak inside to you I'm the fairytale prince, I can lift your curse You know
When the breeze whispers in your ear and laughs strangely, know that I have chosen to always be close And I'll indicate that I want and love you, only you
I'm the wind that blows and in a wild dance I travel across open country and oceans I'll carry you anywhere Into the endless space, across the galaxy you'll come with me
When the storm rages and loudly moans in despair and out of control I'm confused, can't find the correct direction but I'll find another way There's not much that can stop me and we'll go another way you and me
I'm the wind that blows and in a wild dance I travel across open country and oceans I'll carry you anywhere Into the endless space, across the galaxy you'll come with me
I'm the wind that blows and in a wild dance I travel across open country and oceans I'll carry you anywhere Into the endless space, across the galaxy I'll go with you
Translation notes
"Ástarævintýri" literally means "a love fairy tale" or "a love adventure", but it's a relatively commonly used term for a passionate if perhaps brief relationship, while the song itself is playing on the literal fairy tale aspect of the word - so I figured the most appropriate translation for it was "Fairy Tale Love", which both includes the fairy tale connotation but also is a known phrase in English.

Hi, here’s my playlist of some of the most popular Icelandic songs, both old and new + some songs that I personally really like. Song info is under the cut if you are interested. Hope you enjoy!
Song info
“Older” iconic songs that everyone knows
Ég er kominn heim, sung by Helgi Björnson, Iceland’s anthem for the 2016 European football champoinship. Song is from 1960.
Draumur um Nínu, song by Stefán Hilmarsson and Eyjólfur Kristjánsson, Iceland’s song for Eurovision 1991.
Hjá þér, song by Sálin hans Jóns míns (band), 1998.
Minning um mann, song by Logar (band), 1973.

Dag sem dimma nátt, song by Í svörtum fötum(band), 2002.
Rómeó og Júlía, song by Bubbi Morthens, 1986. (Fun fact, Bubbi Morthens, the songwriter and singer, told once in an interview that this song is about heroin. I didn’t realize it until this summer.)
Traustur vinur, song by Upplyfting (band), 2001.
Útihátíð, song by Greifarnir (band), 1986.
Tætum og tryllum, song by Stuðmenn (band), 1975.
Capri Catarina, sung by Haukur Morthens, song by Jón Jónsson, 1958.
Vertu ekki að horfa svona alltaf á mig, song by Ragnar Bjarnason, 1960.

Týnda kynslóðin, song by Bjartmar Guðlaugsson, 1987.
Danska lagið, song by Bítlavinafélagið (band), 1989. About half of the song is sung in Danish, so don’t let it fool you. The song itself is about a girl that is really good at danish so she sings a famous danish song for her class. Pretty weird song if you ask me but everyone knows it so....
Heyr mína bæn, song by Ellý Vilhjálms aka Iceland’s sweetheart, 1965.
Serbinn, song by Bubbi Morthens, 1994.
Ofboðslega frægur, song by Stuðmenn (band), 1993.

“Newer” iconic songs
Gordjöss, song by Páll Óskar, 2007.
Bahama, song by Ingó og Veðurguðirnir (band), 2008.
Gestalistinn, song by Ingó og Veðurguðirnir (band), 2008.
Í síðasta skiptið, song by Friðrik Dór, 2015. Semi-finalist of Söngvakeppnin 2015.
La Dolce Vita, song by Páll Óskar, 2007.
Ljúft að vera til, song by Jón Jónsson, 2014. This was the main song for the annual outdoor festival Þjóðhátíð, those songs are known as “Þjóðhátíðarlag”. Also fun fact, Jón Jónsson and Friðrik Dór are brothers!
Vinurinn, song by Ingó og Veðurguðirnir (band), 2008.
Þar sem hjartað slær, song by Sverrir Bergman, backround voices are the amazing Fjallabræður, one of Iceland’s many male choirs. This was the Þjóðhátíðarlag 2012, it was also (in my opinion) the most beautiful Þjóðhátíðarlag til this day.
Þú komst við hjartað í mér, song by Hjaltalín, 2007.
Á sama tíma, á sama stað, song by Jón Jónsson and Friðrik Dór, Þjóðhátíðarlag 2018.
Neinei, song by Áttan, 2017. Áttan was a pretty hated group that had a short-lived fame all through 2017. And even though they were really cringy, they had some absolute B A N G E R S.
Ekki Seena, song by Áttan, 2017.
Klakar, song by Herra Hnetusmjör, 2019.
Chuggedda, song by Aron Can and Bergur Leó, 2018.
Í átt að tunglinu, song by JóiPé and Króli, 2018.
Hlið við hlið, song by Friðrik Dór, 2010. That phase when Friðrik Dór was basically Justin Bieber was..... cursed but not really u know?

B.O.B.A., song by JóiPé and Króli, 2017.
Ég vil það, song by JóiPé and Chase Anthony, 2017. This song is often made fun of because of JóiPé’s pronunciation.
Enginn mórall, song by Aron Can, 2016.
Joey Cypher, song by Joey Christ, Aron Can, Herra Hnetusmjör and Birnir, 2017.
Svona er þetta, song by Emmsjé Gauti, 2016.

Einn skóli á landinu, song by Rjóminn (group), 2016.
Life’s a bitch, song by Rjóminn (group), 2017. I really recommend watching the video on youtube!!
Dimmalimm, song by Rjóminn (group) and Sprite Zero Klan (group), 2016. Ok this one need some explaining. This song is basically a rap battle between Rjóminn and Sprite Zero Klan as kindergardeners. It mixes together very grapgic and very childish insults. The music video is my favourite thing ever and the tallest guy is my probably the funniest person I know of.
Gúd væbs ónlý, song by Sprite Zero Klan (group), 2019.
Lazerland, song by Rollan (group), 2016. Basically a song about a boy that wants to rave 24/7.

Some good quality Icelandic Eurovision entries
(As typed by a native Icelandic teen)
Gleðibankinn - Icy
The first ever Icelandic entry & a forever nostalgic bop. The lyrics are sweet (it's not a love song!) & it gets you in a good mood
Draumur um Nínu - Eyjólfur Kristjánsson & Stefán Hilmarsson
A treasure of a song. If you dislike it I will be forced to fight you as a matter of national pride. The lyrics are the sweetest (this one is a love song) and are about a man who's missing the love of his life, roughly speaking. Played as a slow dance song in a lot of school balls.
Þú og þeir (Socrates) - Beat'hoven
A bop. It's mostly just listing of famous/influential people (all men, sadly) but it's great fun.
Nei eða Já - Heart to Heart
It's just such a fun song that you'll feel peppy just listening to it. It is a love song but its not sappy which id a good thing in this case. Just overall a feel good bop.
Minn hinsti dans - Páll Óskar
This entry was a daring one, not gonna lie. The singer is one of our biggest stars & almost his entire discography(?) is amazing. This is kinda of a dark disco track & while not my favourite of his is still good. ( @ clown squad; he has a v sexy bdsm song called Bundinn Fastur (bound tight) that u should check out ;))
Congratulations- Silvia Night
One of my personal favourites. The entire song, performance (u should check it out) & character was a joke but the dear people of Europe took it completely seriously. It's a glorious listen.
Is It True - Yohanna
Our well deserved 2nd place from 2009. The song is beautiful, her voice is breathtaking & the performance was so stable for such a powerful song.
Coming Home - Sjonni's Friends
A wholesome song with such a touching story. The song was originally sent in by the musician Sjonni Brink but he unexpectedly died of a heart attack I think. His friends then got permission from his wife to send the song in together under the name Sjonni's Friends. The song is cute & gets you in a happy mood.
Mundu Eftir Mér - Jónsi & Greta Salóme
In the semi-finals it was performed in English but honestly I prefer the Icelandic version. It's super dramatic & epic and has a sort of fantasy feel to it. The singers are great & the lyrics are really fucking cool.
Ég á líf- Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson
The song is rather simple but the lyrics are so beautiful & his voice is honestly breathtaking. One of the greatest ballads of Eurovision & you may quote me on that. I honestly get chills listening to it.
Hatrið mun sigra - Hatari
Need I say more? Just look at my fucking blog

10 songs meme
10 song I am currently obsessed with. I got tagged a little while ago by @invite-me-to-your-memories, thanks!
Ok ok here goes. I do not care for genres or popular mores. We go from mid-C19th folk music to early 90s Eurovision without a second thought. Enjoy. Or flee.
1 and 2. Lord Franklin aka Lady Franklin's Lament - multiple versions
I know it's a bit of a cop-out, but I can't pick just one. I think I like Martin Carthy's best, but Pentangle's gets stuck in my head easiest. Lady Jane Franklin is not my favourite historical person. I admire her determination to find out what happened to her husband, but she was quite happy to quash anyone who threatened her eulogised portrait of Franklin, and the repeated expeditions she urged don't seem to have gained much — and of course, she didn't want to hear about it when John Rae brought back news of cannibalism. This ballad, whether it was commissioned by her or not, is a perfect summary of all I respect and also dislike about her, and all that is attractive - misleadingly so - about the expeditions to the Passage. It is a gorgeous, manipulative, evocative ballad that romanticises the doomed expedition, but in the right hands it really is heart-wrenching, as those horrible deaths were, whoever they happened to.
3. Bubbi Morthens - Rómeó og Júlía
Ah melodramatic Icelandic pop about drug addicts. I only twigged the latter bit when I had to look up the lyrics because I worked out it wasn't a straight retelling of the Shakespeare play... Anyway, I couldn't get it out of my head, at least it was 'language preparation' for Iceland last month.
4. Eyjólfur Kristjánsson - Enginn veit
Uhhh @mardymaid has asked me many times about guilty pleasures and I can safely now say that this is one. Early 90s Icelandic Eurovision entrants! Derivative pop music that sounds at least a decade older! But... I love this track. I was legitimately sad not to hear him played in any Rvk clubs, but I did recognise him on the radio in a café in Stykkishólmur, so win, I guess?
5. Maximo Park - Apply Some Pressure
At any given time it is a fact that I will be obsessed with at least one MP song. This is the current one, a classic, because I got to dance to it with my mate at her wedding the other week. Banging.
6. Manic Street Preachers - Hold me Like a Heaven
Best track on the new album, hands down. "I hate the world more than I hate myself / I can't pretend that it's a cry for help."
7. LCD Soundsystem - how do you sleep?
I came to this album absurdly late (and to This is Happening if I'm honest). But I finally caught up this summer because I love pop-epics-as-existential-crises, and the drums on this are also HUGE and it came on while I was making eyes at the sea last night which was so perfect, just as the sun dipped low enough to kiss the horizon.
8. Johnny Flynn - Detectorists
I long for season 3 to come on Netflix! Why didn't I listen to everyone sooner, then I could have watched it when it aired! I love Johnny Flynn anyway, and this is such a perfect, gentle accompaniment to a gentle show. It gets stuck in my head A Lot.
9. Mélusine - Le meurtre dans le bois
Look, my kind of gigs are the kind where the band quietly announces with an awkward laugh 'this is a murder ballad' and the audience cheers. If it's in archaic French, so much the better.
10. Tori Amos - Suede
I don't know how I missed this album for so long either, it's so goooood. This is one of my favourite tracks on it, lyrically and musically, and I love that ending.
This was actually a bit harder because I've been travelling and listening to music less than normal, but I'm always so happy to be tagged in these things! I tag anyone who wants to do it: @ladytharen , @jimtheviking, @dolorosa, @mardymaid, @donnaimmaculata if you like, and anyone else who wants to get involved
