This is a Japanese Cigar Shape Jumbo Pen with Perfect gold plated nib likely from the 1950s.  It's a huge Japanese ink shut-off eyedropper filling pen measuring 6 3/8 inches long with the cap on and just under an inch across at the cap band. The pen can be posted, if you want to write with a pen that's 7 3/4 inches long.  It has no maker's marks, and because the feed is a newer design with a gold plated stainless steel nib stamped PERFECT over POINT over DIADEUM, it's probably post World War Two and was an inexpensive pen. Many such pens were sold as novelties after the war.  The nib writes surprisingly well, with a wet medium line and it is more comfortable to write with than expected.

Japanese Cigar Shape Jumbo Pen with Perfect gold plated nib c1950s.  This is a pen we picked up in Maine at an antique store that had several Japanese pens. Almost all of the pens we found there are eyedropper fillers and were likely brought home by US servicemen coming back from duty in Japan after World War II.  This pen literally stood out from all the others. It's a huge Japanese eyedropper filling pen measuring 6 3/8 inches long with the cap on and just under an inch across at the cap band. The pen can be posted, if you want to write with a pen that's 7 3/4 inches long.  We've been trying to identify this pen and downloaded several resources, including the scan of the pre-war High Class Nine Fountain Pen catalog (posted in this forum in a thread on FPN) that shows two of these large pens with 14 karat gold nibs. One is a flat top and the other a balance shape like this one. The balance shaped pen name translates as Cigar Shape Jumbo, according to one of FPN's members. Similar pens are shown in post war catalogs, such as the 1957 Yotsubishi, which shows an elaborate maki-e pen. So this size pen was not always a novelty or cheap pen.  This pen has no maker's marks, and because the feed is newer and has a gold plated PERFECT steel nib, it's probably post war and probably an inexpensive pen. The nib writes surprisingly well, with a wet medium line and it is more comfortable to write with than expected.  You never know what you will find when out pen hunting!

Well grey marble eyedropper fountain pen with Sailor nib c1940s.  This is part of the Maine pen hunting trip where we found an antique store with a lot of very unusual pens, including several Japanese eyedropper pens.  We suspect these pens were brought home by an American soldier stationed in Japan after World War II.  Made in an unusual ribbed design from a grey marble resin.  The pen barrel is stamped WELL, with a logo to the left and FOUNTAIN PEN below.  Well (made by Mitsumoto-Honten and distributed by Diamond) was a smaller pen maker from the 1920s through the 1950s.  In this case, the pen has a very long tine number 5 Sailor stainless steel nib, a sign of mid to late 1940s pens.  It's 5 1/8 inches long and quite light.  You can see the eyedropper shut off open.  This pen needs a new seal as it won't close completely.

Uetosi eyedropper pen with S.S.S. nib c1940s.  A few years ago when pen hunting in Maine, we ran across an antique store with a lot of very unusual pens, including several Japanese eyedropper pens.  The pen barrel is stamped UETOSI & CO., with a logo to the left and kanji characters below. The pen appears to be one of the many small makers that made caps and barrels and bought hardware from larger pen makers. In this case, the pen has a medium S.S.S. nib, made by San Esu, a smaller pen maker in business from 1911 to the 1960s. S.S.S. made gold nibs, but during World War II gold was a limited resource and pen nibs began to be made using stainless steel. The clip is marked STEN and is similar to many jobbed clips on other pens and may be the jobber's mark. All the trim appears to be chrome plated and the cap and barrel appears to be black resin. It's a fairly large pen at 5 3/8 inches long. From my very limited resources, the parts would date this pen probably to the mid to late 1940s.
