I don't know what I did to deserve someone like you. You came out of nowhere and are now everything. Where at the beginning there were only sarcastic comments and far too many eye rolls, while it now turned into love and an even stronger connection. I really have no idea where you came from, but there you are and I couldn't imagine my life without you anymore. Forever is a long time, but I wouldn’t want it any other way than with you. @inthe-shadoows

28, 29, 32, or 35 rootspring x shadowsight?? thank youuu
29 - things you said in the rain (from this prompt list)
“Hurry up!”
It was a cool morning. The mighty pine trees around them sat drenched as rain slipped through their canopy. It splattered against the earth, letting Rootspring mark his pawsteps as he darted onwards. With soaked fur, he hurried into a small cave the moment he saw it.
Shadowsight scrambled behind him, mud almost up to his stomach. His chest heaved and his fur looked even wetter than Rootspring’s. He collapsed beside him, giving him a glare, but there was no real anger. Once he had caught his breath, he grumbled, “It’s not fair that you’re faster than me.”
“Aw, c’mon.” Rootspring patted his head. “You’ll dry off.”
Shadowsight got to his paws. “That’s true,” he said. With that, he shook out his fur, spraying Rootspring with water. Before Rootspring had the chance to back away, he flicked a paw in his direction and speckled his face with mud.
Rootspring gagged, stumbling backwards. “Shadoow,” he whined, wiping his face. He shook out his fur a safe distance away, but the damp wasn’t completely gone.
“Don’t worry.” Shadowsight leaned forward with a playful glint in his eyes. “You’ll dry off.”
Rootspring almost looked impressed, but he didn’t let Shadowsight see that. With a huff, he settled back down and mumbled, “You’re so mean.”
Shadowsight grinned, leaning his head against Rootspring’s shoulder. “I know.”
They sat quietly for a little while. It was just them. The rain was rhythmic, pattering down on the roof and then trickling to the ground. The scent of damp earth and wet pine carried through the forest. It gave Rootspring a sense of peace as he breathed it in. The sun was not out yet, but the rain was slowing. The trees swayed in the breeze, their needles twinking in dull morning light.
Rootspring broke the silence first, “Hey, I’m…” He shifted, not quite meeting Shadowsight’s gaze. “I’m glad you’re here.”
Shadowsight beamed. “Yeah?”
Rootspring huffed. He wasn’t very good with the verbal affection thing, or whatever. “Yeah, I’m--” he cut off. “Stop looking at me like that.”
Shadowsight peered at him innocently. “Like what? I’m not saying anything.”
Rootspring flushed, looking away again. He didn’t know how to explain to Shadowsight how much he liked him. He should get him something instead. Some herbs, maybe. Medicine cats liked herbs, didn't they? That was didn't their whole thing, right? That sounded like a good idea. Words were stupid anyway.
“Hey, Root.” Shadowsight nudged him, bringing him back into reality. Rootspring still didn’t look at him. “I’m really glad you’re here, as well,” he said softly. Rootspring almost missed it through the rain. “I like you a lot, Root. There’s no one else I’d want to be in a dreary morning with.”
Rootspring froze, heat rising to his face. His ears tingled. Okay, maybe words weren’t stupid. He just hadn’t found the right ones yet. Hopefully, four would be enough for now.
“I like you, too.”
