you play videogames aside from mario and kirby? (i think you posted about meteroid recently lol?). i followed for kirby but i do get kinda curious. i'd expect you to be into horror games but i don't recall having seen you talk about that before (though you dont seem like the type to be into mainsteam mascot-esque horror lmao)

yeah!! lots of games!! i really love the binding of isaac and minecraft and splatoon but my focus on them comes and goes, like every once in a while i get back into one and go way too hard for a while and then not touch again for like a year lol. i also play FF14, omni-90 on my main and finished endwalker on 3 more alts

i like metroid and zelda and pokemon (my favourite gens are 3 and 7). i love portal and inscryption and the lisa rpgs and okami. i've played a bunch of others but these are like all the ones i play "regularly" or have replayed often (that i can think of atm)

i can't play horror games if there's any "real time" threats or like time limits/hiding etc because they just make me anxious (not scared) and it's not fun for me. really this kinda applies to any genre (the silent realms in skyward sword were a nightmare for me) but most of the horror genre is like built off this stuff lol

world of horror is fun. i liked the first layers of fear. i love anything horror adjacent or with horror themes, especially when it shows up in non-horror games. and any horror games where the horror comes from atmosphere/themes and not Surviving Danger

but i still love all horror games 😭 i just watch other people play them. silent hill is so special to me, it was one of the earliest things that got me into horror and i love it a lot even though i definitely wouldn't ever be able to play any of them

mascot horror is fine, it's not inherently bad just for being mascot horror, like it can be done well. and it can suck really bad. i am not tired of the "cute friendly thing is evil!!! aahhh!!" trope at all lol

Oh, now that Abeno mentions it, Chungo has a crescent, but one of the other bros has a heart on his belly. Another one has a circular pattern with a round dent where the head is (like a partial moon, with the smaller edge inverted).

One of the “birds” has two dents in his belly pattern (like the one I described just before, but this time with a W shape).

Hmm…in much the same way the police act as a representative of the state, the reason there needs to be a master of the Mononokean is to represent it…and maybe the Legislator. Is that right, people?

Come to think of it…”chun” roughly means “tweet”, hence “Chunichi”, “Chunji” etc.

The name of this episode is Kii (literally, “return to residence” as far as I understand it…I may have misinterpreted that second kanji though).

some final sekiro thoughts under the cut!

- kuro is just... so good. he’s so little and so good and he trusts me so much I can’t bear the thought of letting him down ;___; good job fromsoft I definitely am feeling that horrified desperate parental figure vibe you’ve instilled in the main character. on every level except the physical I am a terrified dad now 

also... it’s SO SAD when he reaches out to you when you find him at the beginning of the game b/c for all my jokes the impression I’m getting is that wolf has been like... the closest thing kuro’s had to a dad for a long time? or at least the one adult he can trust to be on his side no matter what? but now he’s lost his memories and doesn’t quite remember? kuro clearly expected something more/closer from him there anyway and it breaks my heart

- I really like Wolf actually, they’ve added a lot of small endearing details to his animations and stuff. just the conscientious way he puts away his sword before getting close enough to talk to someone and how small and haggard and slightly unimpressive he looks. when he stands next to Owl he still looks like a little boy in comparison. he’s apparently barely socialized (...fuck you owl) and has zero social graces but he clearly cares about the people he meets and is distressed when they get hurt. I have many feelings

- trust fromsoft to be the devs to mercilessly exploit my ultimate weakness in video games; my complete inability to hurt nice npcs. FUCK YOU DRAGON ROT I AM SO SCARED ALL THE TIME NOW

nothing has ever made me more careful about dying in a game than this mechanic. never let bioware learn this trick.  

- it’s sort of weird to play a fromsoft game where the vast majority of the npcs you can talk to are basically nice and friendly towards you from the getgo. no creepy sinister laughter after every single sentence. are we sure this is really a from software game. (it would be sweet if it probably wasn’t to make the point above all the more devastating --__-- all these kind people are DYING because of YOU and your INCOMPETENCE like D:D:D:)

- some really interesting and unique female designs in this game! lady butterfly, the monk on the bridge, the okami warriors and their uh cousins? in the sunken valley, they’re all so cool. (I felt bad running around the okami village. all these gals are just chilling, hanging out and jauntily playing football and I here I am cutting a blood-soaked swathe through their living rooms like a hooligan)  

- at the beginning my bloodborne instincts were... really fucking me over again and again and again lol the idea of standing my ground and blocking was completely foreign to me (I also play dark souls that way, to be fair, shields are for cowards who are afraid to tank a hit to the face like a cool person)

turns out I actually do better with standing my ground because at heart I’m a stubborn vindictive fucker who doesn’t know when to quit who knew

apparently I’d also encountered some midbosses meant for later in the game but wouldn’t stop throwing myself face first at them for long enough to consider this so uh. that’s on me lol (got them all in the end tho)

- me at the beginning of sekiro: awwww why do I have to fucking deflect everything why can’t I just dodge are all my years of soulsborne muscle memory a joke to you fromsoft

me up against the demon of hatred: whyyyy can’t I deflect him what do you mean I have to dodge around like a common peasant

- man this game is really fulfilling my need to be a sneaky fuck at every opportunity... really scratching that dishonored itch. every time I find a way to get out of making it a fair fight and just stabbing someone in the back while they’re not paying attention instead a bunch of joyous wildflowers bloom in my heart (puppeteer ninjintsu 4 LYF)

- my soul has been uplifted by hearing isshin refer to wolf as ‘that sullen lad’ fhsdfsdkfs

- the plot of this game is largely incoherent to me but y’know I went in with open eyes here, that’s a feature not a bug with this developer. why can we go into the past? and twice? but it’s different somehow? idk psychological storytelling I guess next. why is there a huge rope man leaning against this cliff? it’s probably all down to shinto or something let’s gooooo stab some monsters 

- wolf: does not perpetuate the circle of violence and abuse with kuro but is, in fact, completely willing to die for the opportunity for kuro to have a good happy life

me, choked up, completely missing a grappling point and hurtling to my death: cool bro

- btw I’ve seen the immortal severance ending on youtube and can I just say... having kuro grab the blade in a DIRECT MIRROR to bb!wolf at the beginning of the game... is a personal attack on me. it is cruel and awful. ouch
