a/n - wow sorry i took so long to get to this !! i thought this req was such a neat concept when i first received it and i'm honestly shocked it's taken this long to get around to it honestly ... also, im fairly sure a couple of these charas have been in events related to learning how to tune vocaloids, so if anything in here contradicts those events please forgive me i have not read them </3 enjoy

Obviously, Ichika has always admired Vocaloid songs

She's wanted to try it for herself for as long as she can remember, but seeing how expensive the software is, she can't

Until she met you, of course

Learning you were a Vocaloid producer and that you shared her passion for music probably made her love you more than she already did

She will gladly listen attentively as you explain how it works to her, even if she's heard it before from certain videos

She wants to hear you explain it, after all

Seeing the process of making these kinds of songs that she's loved for years is so exciting for Ichika

When you temporarily leave the room to grab something, you come back to see her tentatively making Miku sing a few notes

Minori enjoys quietly watching you work away at the laptop

It's a bit of a toss-up, sometimes she'll be utterly silent and sometimes she'll ask you a billion questions at once

Every single time after you finish making a song, Minori's already crafted choreography for it in her mind and eagerly performs it for you

So if you're the type of producer to use animation/dancing in your mvs, you have a wonderful choreographer to help you plan it out!

Minori always tries to get the rest of MMJ! to cover your songs with her after you release them

Even if they don't want to, she'll probably post solo covers anyway

You'll also catch her humming your songs when she's distracted by something

If you tell her about it, she proudly tells you it's just because your songs are so amazing, they always get stuck in her head!

Minori loves her talented partner so much, after all!

Akito didn't know much about Vocaloid songs before he met you, really

Yeah, he's listened to a few songs once or twice. Yeah, he covers them constantly. Yeah, he knows Hatsune Miku personally, but that doesn't mean anything

Suffice to say, he learns a lot from you

He's asked if he can watch you make music before, which you didn't really mind

You thought it was boring to him, though - all you really do is sit there quietly as you work, occasionally humming or singing the melody you're trying to create

Until one day, Akito suddenly comments on the creation process as if he's used the software multiple times before

It definitely shocked you, but you're happy to know he does pay attention

If the music you make is his style, he'll probably cover it himself or with VBS too

Although, when they find out he only wants to cover your songs because they're your songs, he gets relentlessly teased about it...

Kanade is already used to making songs digitally, plus she's used the Vocaloid software before

The two of you end up making songs together a lot

You've probably collaborated with 25ji multiple times, plus Kanade and you often like making songs on your own

Aside from that, you two can often give each other help or criticism when you work

"Hey, Kanade. What do you think of this song so far?" "It flows very well, and your tuning of Rin sounds very unique and refreshing. However, maybe you could tweak this part..."

Although, while Kanade knows how to use Vocaloid, she usually focuses on melodies more than the voice software

So she's learned a lot by being with you

And likewise, you've learned a lot about composing from her

You're each other's biggest fans, really

Your songs are very comforting to Kanade. She'll find herself humming them on instinct when she's stressing herself out from composing

If your songs are on the gentler side, she'll probably put them on when she's trying to sleep

(Usually she doesn't try to sleep though, she just ends up falling asleep on accident...)

I put together a few Lights, Camera, Sing Your Sins thoughts! Details about characters, filming, reactions, etc. I doubt I'll get the chance to smoothly work some of them into the drabbles, but I still wanted to share them :)

Post-T1 thoughts:

The first few days out of the prison are really weird and awkward – the prisoners got too deep in the immersion and are slowly remembering what’s real and talking some things out. Before these major emotions can wear off, they’re pulled aside by various writers and teams to make a plan for the next trial. They meet up with deco*27 himself and the songwriting begins

They each have a private bedroom in the facility. The first night, they’re all super excited to not be sleeping in those uncomfortable cells, and then immediately feel really closed off to the others. For some it remains a good thing – Yuno is glad for the isolation, Fuuta’s paranoia about judgment is eased, etc. Still, it’s strange to be separated from the people they’ve been side-by-side with for a year and a half, 24/7. Many of them end up sleeping on the floor of one another’s room or leaving their doors wide open. 

Jackalope is using long distance tech to project his voice into the prison, but the animal in the prison is just a well-trained pet with some hardcore costuming. Freed from its little uniform, the rabbit gets lots of pets and pampering from the prisoners. 

They aren’t allowed to leave and visitors must be for filming purposes only, but each prisoner is allowed a phone call (“hey, just like a real prison!” Jackalope laughs). Haruka calls his sister, and so does Fuuta. They stay on the phone for a really long time. Yuno calls her parents, making sure to say hi to Yura. Muu calls her parents too, and cries hearing their voices. Shidou calls his family; being separated from them for so long only confirms his near-miss intentions. Mahiru realizes too late she should have called her family – instead, fresh off the guilty verdict, she calls her ex to apologize profusely. Kazui considers a few people he could call, but doesn’t take Jackalope up on the offer right away. Later in the hiatus he calls his childhood friend just to say hi; he doesn’t mention any of the experiment stuff going on. Amane wanted to call her father, but she doesn’t want to break the news that she’s not doing a good job because of her verdict. She waits until she knows he’ll be out per his usual schedule, and leaves a brief and formal message on the machine. Mikoto calls his mom and sister, asking about how everyone’s doing (and largely avoiding talking about himself). Kotoko calls her family, surprised at how emotional she gets hearing their voices. 

Jackalope makes the mistake of mentioning updated guilty uniforms in front of the prisoners. Fashion expert Mahiru, designer Mikoto, and just simply nosy Yuno and Muu track down the costuming team to “help.” Though there’s not a ton of alterations to be made, they enjoy being a part of the process. They end up sticking around and chatting about mv outfits.  Mahiru enjoys everyone’s choices and fittings, and promises Amane they’ll go shopping someday and have a proper dress fitting. She asks if Es is going to get a new uniform as well. When told no, she vows she’ll take them shopping as well.

Though not allowed to leave, they’re at least allowed to step outside in designated areas. They enjoy the sun and rain and stars. The smoking group is excited to meet outside. Mikoto makes sure to hang out with them a bit extra seeing as he’s going to leave the group a bit come T2.  

I wrote the drabbles as individual scenes since it was nice to give each prisoner their own time like that, but logically some filming would be overlapped a bit. Jackalope would still want to direct everything as best he could, but there may be multiple scenes filming at once. I just really liked the idea of the mixing of props and costumes. They yell “cut!” as Bee Muu takes a shortcut through the Backdraft set. Yuno accidentally leaves her pink-glasses rabbit in one of the AKAA chairs and Haruka laughs in the middle of a take as he moves it out of frame. Amane is on a quick break from her scene and Mikoto shows her around the train still in full marching band getup. (I just realized these were all back to back videos, but I think any and all can overlap lol)

Shidou is still the one to administer Mahiru and Fuuta’s bandages. Even though it’s fake, he wants it a) to be his real handiwork and b) to be accurate, given the disaster of Throw Down. He’s excited to share his knowledge and explain exactly how each of their imagined injuries would affect them, telling them the proper way to act. Mahiru listens intently, all but taking notes, while Fuuta is bored to death of his doctor-jargon ramble.

Back pre-T1, Jackalope started off telling the prisoners they can choose their song titles (just for organization's sake, Es won’t see them) but he ends up taking over because their titles are really, really bad. It’s a mix of those really long sentence-style titles and cool words/phrases that have absolutely nothing to do with the song itself. Jackalope goes through the files renaming “The Sweet Whispers of A Lost Love,” “Fuck You,” “They say three strikes and you’re out but clearly they’ve never met me before” and “Kotokos_song.mp3”. By the time they start filming second trial videos, it doesn’t phase him to open up files titled “Elegy to a Broken Heart,” “I checked the train schedule five times and still missed my stop,” “I Can’t Be Normal,” and “Kotokos_song(1).mp3”. 

And some post-T2 thoughts:

The verdicts are both easier and harder to handle this time around. This is the second break from the immersion, and it’s easier to separate reality from experiment. However, the videos and interrogations this time around were a lot more raw, so there’s an extra sting of betrayal to them. Es got to look deep – much deeper than most – and still chose not to forgive.

Haruka isn’t really worried about death or harm from the verdict, but he does feel betrayed that Es would throw his life away like that. Muu doesn’t fear the consequences, but is saddened that once again she made someone like her only to turn against her when they saw her true self. The t1 guilties have a little meetup where they breathe a collective sigh of relief and congratulate one another on making it through. Fuuta just kind of sinks in relief, while Mikoto is giving out high-fives. Then they make a beeline for the current guilties to see how they can help.

Mahiru and Mikoto were always helpful to the others, but Fuuta surprises everyone by constantly checking in with the guilty prisoners. He remembers how much the verdict sucked and wants to try and help/prepare them as much as he can.

Red appears every once and a while to force people to take breaks when filming gets very involved/tiring. While Blue is pretty chill and cheery about everyone staying hydrated and getting good sleep, Red is a bit more serious with his approach. 

I think with another innocent verdict and seeing everyone 'behind the scenes,' Kazui would finally, finally start opening up to people. I like to think, as Yuno starts filming another video about very comfortable with her sexuality, he approaches her first with the topic.

When given the chance to make phone calls, most of the prisoners choose the same people as before. Haruka doesn’t want to call anyone at first, but is glad when Muu forces him to call his sister. He’s by her side when she calls her parents. Mahiru remembers to call her parents first, telling them to pass along her well wishes to others. She got the verdict she was hoping for, but Amane can’t bring herself to call home. 

The upcoming videos will likely be even more intense, but that just makes everyone band together more. They give each other confidence. They work extra hard to get silly goofy when it’s in good taste.

Personality: Yui is cheerful and sociable, often approaching others with a soft smile. She's a great conversationalist too, able to speak with anyone on any topic as she knows a little bit about everything.

Her usual demeanor can only be described as "cute". She speaks in a soft voice and her movements are gentle. Her fans love her for it. The messed up people in Milgram could hardly care less.

There are times when her cheerful demeanor falters when she's alone though, when she stares blankly into the distance with sagged shoulders. If she notices someone coming, she'll brighten up immediately. Unfortunately for her, Milgram has some quiet people that are good at sneaking around. She'll have to keep her guard up.

Her MV description: The first minute of the MV takes place in a school, the rest of it in a dance stage. Bright colours are present most of the time but dark grey appears a lot in both locations.

The MV starts with Yui making her way up an old grey staircase. She's dressed in her school uniform, so this event takes place a few years in the past. Fluorescent lights flicker once above her. She reaches a door at the end of the staircase and opens it, revealing a school roof and the summer sky painted a bright and blinding blue.

A blue-haired girl sits by the fence, sipping from a bottle of strawberry soda. Yui goes over and sits down next to her. Together, they watch a video of idols performing on stage. The girl gets excited after a while and pulls Yui up to her feet, dragging her along to copy the dance routine they had just watched.

They do a synchronized spin, and the school setting switches to the dance stage setting. Yui and the girl's school outfits have changed into idol outfits. Yui wears purple whilst the other wears pink. They're in an idol group of five and doing a different dance routine now. A big crowd cheers from below, waving coloured light sticks around. The number of pink light sticks outnumber the other four colours.

They have a meet and greet after the show. Yui watches as a group of girls surround her friend, holding out album covers and photo books for her autograph. A fan approaches Yui and her gaze is torn away from the blue-haired girl. She smiles warmly.

The show is over. Yui beckons for her friend to follow her, excitedly running across the now empty stage. Without the colourful spotlights and flashy visuals being shown on screen for the show, the stage looks awfully grey and dull. Yui looks back at her friend as the girl jogs over to catch up to her. Above them, a spotlight jerks and falls.

The last shot of the MV shows a close up of Yui flinching, then her expressions morphs into one of horror. The MV ends.

Yay! We made it another year! (Here's last year's roundup if you want to see that)

To tell you the truth, until I made this I hadn't realised how far I'd come in terms of technique and style. It was also hard to make this because like last year, there's so much i did that shows different parts of my art (like, October's chibi incubi au DOES NOT show how deeply I got into drawing chibis this year, especially on my @ask-the-milgram-prisoners sideblog) There's also a lot of little things I can't really convey, like my favourite art being a Moomin I drew that got so many nice comments <3, it really does mean a lot to me as most people usually reblog or like my art quite silently, and i understand not everyone has the spoons to leave compliments everywhere but... I like it when people say nice things to me... wwwwww

Reading over my 2020 summary makes me realise one big different i hadn't noticed: I finish most of what i start now. Which is quite surprising... I feel like I've improved as an artist, my paintings are a lot more detailed now and while i learned about gradients in late 2020, i think I'm using them more effectively now, to be honest i'm quite excited to see where I'll end up this time next year.

But with good comes bad, whilst i see my art improving, it still takes a while to make (generally at max speed, a painting will require 2-3 days of work, and a comic can take up to a week, a rate i am only able to achieve due to copious free time, as i get older and need to focus more on university or working a job, i imagine my output will be severely limited unless i manage to learn to work faster). Another limitation is fandom, whilst the above summary may give the impression i posted an even rate of Danganronpa to MILGRAM fanart, that is far from the truth. I still like danganronpa, but this year I fell in love with DECO*27's MILGRAM Project on youtube and that really takes up most of my creative imagination now... NBD except for the MILGRAM fandom being almost entirely on twitter (do not worry about me leaving tumblr, twitter is much too hostile for me) so I am currently in an odd state where my art satisfies me, but makes me feel like I'm disappointing my 70-80 followers who joined during my Danganronpa phase... Crap i've rambled way more than last year!

Do you listen to music (or tv shows/films/anything else) when drawing?

🎤 Mostly music but I also like to work in silence whenever I'm working on details. 🥁 Usually I'll have my headphones on and listen to different types of music depending on the feel of the piece I'm trying to make. 🎷 I like to listen to music or watch an anime while I draw! 🎺 Yes, I listen to music while drawing 🎸 I have a playlist full of my favourite songs and go to that when I want some music. 🎻 Yup! I find that I work better if i'm listening to music especially if the music fits with the theme/aesthetic. But if i'm bored I might watch youtube while drawing.

What’s your favorite music artist/band? If you could ask your favorite band/music artist one question, what would it be?

🎤 My number one is definitely ABBA! I grew up with their music, after all. 🥁 I love anything Vocaloid, but if I had to choose, my favorite producer would probably be Neru or Deco*27. As for bands, Autoheart, Three Days Grace, Mother Mother and Breaking Benjamin. One question I'd love to ask any of them would be what inspired them to start music and what keeps them going. 🎷 My current favorite artist is Conan Gray but I also really appreciate Hobo Johnson. Hm, what’re their favorite songs? :^0 🎺 I don't really have a favorite music type if I like it I like it but if i had to choose it would be the singer Nico Collins sice i love all his songs 🎸 My favourite band is either Deaf Havana or Wolf Alice. 🎻 Though they are technically a fictional band, my favourite band is Hello Happy World. Their music warms my cold dead heart. I don't actually know what i'd ask them, i'd probably ask them for a hug and to have a good day.

Do you play an instrument? If not would you like to play one? Which one?

🎤 I can play the melodica but I'd love to be able to play the piano and any of the string quartet. 🥁 I've played the piano for nearly my whole life. 🎷 I used to play violin in orchestra for one year, which my tiny hands do not cooperate with. I also had one year of guitar class. 🎺 I don't play an instrument now but I use to play the clarinet but now i would like to play the piano 🎸 I would really like to learn the guitar one day! 🎻 I mean, if your voice counts as an instrument then yes I do, but if not then i'd like to play drums.

Which song(s) are you going to draw?

🎤 I've drawn Lenka's "Trouble Is A Friend" for this zine and I'll also be drawing Cecile Corbel's "Bal de Chats". 🥁 My main piece is Flower Tail feat. KAITO by yuukiss. 🎷 I think Conan Gray-Comfort Crowd, unless I have some big brain blast moment for another song. 🎺 Killing Butterflies by Lewis Blissett and if i finish this pices early i may do another using the song Lullaby by Ellise 

🎸 Free to Breathe by Cold War Kids 🎻 Revolting Children from Matilda the Musical, because it's been stuck in my head for a full month.

What do you expect from this zine?

🎤 I expect to see real cool stuff! 🥁 I can't wait to see the wide spread of different types of music as well as all the talent of all the different artists! 🎷 To learn about what a zine community is like and to face the deadlines, as well as learn the process of one. 🎺 To broaden my horizons and get more attention on my blogs and art work 🎸 I'm excited to see all of the wonderful art being put forward for this. It's great to see so many artists from different walks of life coming together. 🎻 I expect to get introduced to a bunch of new music and artists.

The Platonic Hotel

Somewhere at the edge of the universe, in a once popular seaside resort now only remembered by on old English lady as “The place where I slept with Jim, Ben, Howard, Tony and poor Arthur who still writes me letters from his nursing home. And Alfredo but that was a mistake.”, was a grand hotel known as the Platonic Hotel. The Platonic Hotel was, truly, quite a unique establishment. Built in the Art Deco style (a short-lived art movement from an obscure planet of the Milky Way based on a questionable mishmash of confusing artistic concepts), renovated after the Great Universal Robotic Revolution, it was a place lost in space and time whose motto was “Come as you are, do as you please, get what you want and leave when you’re told. No one will judge you here, except for the sharks in the bar’s panoramic bigger-than-life-sized aquarium into which you will be politely thrown if you do not respect our seventy-seven crystal-clear rules which you will find in the pink binder on your bedside table. (Yes, the one you accidentally threw in the rubbish bin.)” Over the millenniums and despite its lengthy motto, the hotel attracted millions of retired pirates, out-of-work billionaires, shady sport coaches, on-the-run politicians, forgotten actresses and all kinds of other animals, some respectable, others less, but who are we to judge?

Before you get any misconception about the Platonic Hotel and its customers, it is important to mention that the hotel’s success was solely due to the combination of two odd facts. First, the only way to find the Platonic Hotel was by getting lost at the edge of both morality and the universe IN THE SAME TIME. The second fact was that the hotel had a 24/7 restaurant and bar with the largest selection of mescal of the universe, and who doesn’t like a little taste of Mexico on a lonely night. Well, at least a lonely beginning of a night.

Anyone arriving at the Platonic Hotel would do the same thing. They would check-in with the gorgeous android Gits (Sorry, she never sleeps with customers, but have you met Sally yet?), get over their jet lag with a twelve-hour steaming-hot bath in their 5D aquarium-immersed glass-tub surrounded by the universe’s largest collection of rare sharks and the occasional remnants of disrespectful customers, and they would eventually sit at the bar where they would enjoy (for the first and last time) the restaurant’s iconic seven-thousand-hour-braised-crocodile-filet-on-its-bed-of-soft-boiled-ostrich-egg-floating-on-a-sea-of-house-made-magic-mushroom-gravy-with-a-side-of-kale-salad-for-those-vitamins-your-mom-always-tells-you-about before striking a conversation with Robart the robot-bartender who would spice-up the ever boring talk with a waterfall of mescal-based cocktails. Robart would always let you know that “When you’ve been providing humans with their favorite life-saving life-soothing life-shortening substance and listening to their constant moaning-groaning-complaining for as long as I have (close to eternity, really), you come to realize that they are nothing but primitive robots with no imagination, an obsession for what everyone else thinks of them and not the faintest idea of why they were born and what they are supposed to do during those short few years they call life.”

At least that was what Robart used to say until something really interesting happened and made him reconsider his views on the human race.

It all started with a twice-married-now-happily-single-thank-you-very-much bounty huntress called Diva whose words were as sweet and as in-your-face as her breasts which she loved so much that she had insured them for seventy million dollars. Robart still remembered really well the day Diva sat at his bar for the first time. In fact, being a robot and all, he remembered it perfectly and he could project the scene for you on a I-MAX screen with Dolby Digital Surround Sound if you were to ask him about it. What struck Robart right away about Diva, apart from her divine breasts which accidentally bounced on his old-fashioned robotic face when he leaned over her a little too close to examine an exotic collar-bone tattoo she had mentioned during their conversation, was her confident prediction of the soon-to-come end of the world. She had all kinds of stories about melting glaciers and nuclear wars and exploding suns and planets sucked in by giant black holes and disappearing galaxies and all sorts of other catastrophic events that strangely appealed to Robart’s secret desire for chaos and death in his all-too-repetitive all-too-predictable life.

Of course at first he thought that Diva was just another Goth girl whose passion for black leather clothes and skulls and anything dark and depressing was a way to get attention (and well, let’s not forget she’s a bounty huntress). But in the following months, more and more customers started bringing up stories about the end of the world. Now, what an exciting idea compared to the usual “He fucked her and the government stole this and she left too early and life’s a bitch and I’m so hot and haters gonna hate and fuckers gonna fuck and suckers gonna suck and what a beautiful sunrise this morning on the pier and can I still get the brunch menu please cause I drunk too much last night and I want my coffee and bacon and let’s add a mimosa to get over this stupid hangover which is completely undeserved”. And Robart slowly began to wonder if he might finally die one day, an idea so extreme and so delectable that his circuits were almost catching in fire every time he was considering it.

Until one day, it finally happened. It took about seven minutes. Not too short, not too long. Just long enough for Robart to invite Gits into the Triple Deluxe Emperor Suite where they laid down on the faux polar bear carpet and exchanged emails, algorithms, high-end NASA lubricants and external hard drives to feel less scared and less lonely and just to pretend there was something to do while their metal bones were slowly melting and their mega-fast micro-processors were over-heating one after the other and their extra-sensitive multi-wavelength sensors were providing them with the most accurate data on the big-bang-bongo-bong-boom explosion of the universe. And while his perfect robot body and robot mind were disappearing with the rest of the know universe, Robart finally understood all the craziness and the irrationality and the stupidity of the human race and in his core database, he updated the description of the variable human to: “Humans: not so bad after all. Fuck, it must be hard to know you’re gonna die while being so primitive and imperfect!” Napier, 27/07/2018

Bogota (Colombia) to Miami (USA) - 20-27 July 2017

After a lovely time seeing our families, we flew back to Bogota. We were very excited to resume our trip! After a long flight we were back in our usual friendly hotel in Bogota by 11pm. After a few hours of sleep, we were back in the shipping agent's office at 8am the following morning. She warned us that clearing the bikes through customs would take the whole day - up to 11pm!!! We weren't looking forward to such a long day but didn't have much choice. We put all our luggage and bike clothing in her car and travelled to the warehouse.  The bikes were waiting for us 😀

We put all the luggage on the bikes, put on our safety gear and followed Veronica on our bikes as she negotiated Bogota's horrible traffic in the comfort of her car. We couldn't lose her, so rode a little faster than usual but hey ho, we were safe. Eventually after about 45 minutes we got to the correct part of the airport. We were met by Veronica's colleague, Libardo, who had the required "airside clearance" and was our agent from then on. Lovely man! He went from one window to the next whilst we waited outside ☺

Our mileage whilst in South America!! 20,045km! 👏👏👏

This was it - our bikes were in the process of being shipped to the US... It felt very strange knowing that we were "finished" with South America. For now... 😉

We weren't allowed to take any photos whilst inside the airport. The clearance process took a while but nowhere near as long as we expected! We were finished by 3.30pm! The most amazing thing was that the Customs didn't even want to look at our bikes! We were shipping them FROM Colombia to Miami! Incredible! 😉 Libardo said that this never happens. We were lucky as this particular part of the process takes at least two and a half hours! Result! 😀

Libardo was fabulous! We were very grateful for his help! 

We taxied back to our hotel, packed the remaining bits and pieces and went out for a last dinner in our favourite Thai restaurant. We walked back looking at the lovely hills of Bogota wondering how/if we will like the US... 

We got up very early the following morning, took a taxi back to the airport and queued again for hours to get through security. I (Anna) was pulled out for the enhanced security check. I hadn't had my coffee at that stage yet so must have looked quite rough haha! 😂😉😋

Our flight was on time but had no entertainment - there was an issue with the screens. I love my movies on the plane 😞 Anyway, it was a good opportunity to read about the US and the places we might want to visit. We were a little sad leaving South America - traveling there was hard work but also very rewarding. Thank God I learnt to ride a bike - we got to see such great places and leave with wonderful memories!  😊

We booked four nights in an airport hotel in Miami - we had a three day window in which the bikes would arrive so needed to "hang around". I found a nice hotel with a lovely pool. So after checking in... Straight to the pool 😀

It was very strange to be back in an English speaking country! Suddenly everything was so easy! 😉 We really have to improve our Spanish further!

Veronica told us that the bikes weren't going to fly the following morning so we were free to go to the beach 👏 One of the requirements for choosing a hotel near Miami airport was a free airport shuttle - it worked like clockwork every hour on the hour. Once in the airport, we walked for about 20 minutes through the airport to the shuttle buses to Miami beach. Given that we were potentially going to do that quite a few times waiting for our bikes to arrive, it saved us quite a lot of money on multiple long taxi rides to Miami Beach. It just took a while to get to the beach 😉 

As we caught the first glimpse of South beach we saw a large group of people gathering on the edge. We got closer and saw an alligator!

There were two rangers trying to catch the alligator... We watched their entertainingly unsuccessful attempts for nearly an hour. Eventually, with the help of a few beachgoers, they caught it!

It was incredible to see. There were people swimming a few metres from where we were. 

A very interesting start to our time in Miami! 😉 

We went for a swim and it was bliss! The water was amazing!!!! 

Some hours later we went for a walk. The weather was great but very, very hot! 

We needed a little air-conditioning... It was about 40 degrees Celsius! We found a little fresh fruit smoothie shop 😊.  Constant cooling required!

We took the shuttle bus back to the airport - it took twice as long as earlier in the day but we had no pressing engagements so it didn't bother us too much 😉 We got an email from the shipping company - our bikes wouldn't be flying the following day either... 

So... In the morning we made the same journey back to the beach 😁

We swam again for hours! Happy days! 😊😊 I have to say... I wasn't terribly upset that the bikes weren't yet in the US 😉

Walking around the Art Deco area of Miami beach was very enjoyable.

We got back to our hotel and there was no message from the shipping company... Technically the bikes were supposed to arrive the following morning. We emailed Veronica and unfortunately there was a day's delay... So we extended our hotel by an extra day and...

Went back to the beach in the morning! 😁 What else would we be doing?!! 😁

Whilst at the beach, we got a text from Veronica saying our bikes would be in Miami overnight and ready for collection from 10am the following morning! We had a great time at the beach but were now very happy to resume our trip 👏

We reached the airport early, found the correct part of the (huge) cargo terminal, filled in some paperwork, paid some money and waited to be allowed into the warehouse.

After a few minutes we were in! So straightforward.

We could see our bikes on a pallet that had been removed from a 747 cargo hold a few hours earlier ☺

As we got closer we noticed that one bike was leaning on the other! 😱😱 Really not what you want to see! They had obviously moved in transit.

We were anxious to see any damage... 

But thankfully, after closer inspection, the bikes were fine! But that's only thanks to the fact that we had used soft luggage on the bikes! If we'd had aluminium boxes on the bikes, the sides and indicators would have been significantly damaged. Phew! That was lucky!

The airport staff were friendly and helpful.  Before long, we had our beasts back! 😍

We were free to go after a couple of hours all in all - unbelievable! In South America this process would have taken a very long day. We were very happy!

It looked like it was going to pour rain so we rode back to our hotel quite quickly, our first miles in North America. 

After unloading the luggage, we had the difficult job of repacking everything! Oh the horror! 😬 The swimming pool helped to ease the pain 😉

Before long we were ready to go! Miami was hot! It was lovely to be by the beach but with bikes ready to go, we needed to move on to cooler places with a lot less tourists!

august: week two

07: i took my time getting ready in the morning but i also woke up on time. kevin actually woke up at the same time as me :O i did a 30 minute cardio dance workout and then showered and ate breakfast. kevin got up and ate breakfast with me and then i left for work. we moved offices last week so now i am closer to south station. i checked in with security and they failed to let me know how to use these damn elevators at wework... so i got on the elevator, took me to the 2nd floor, and then i tried using the touchscreen pads to get to floor 8 to get my ID. i waited for like 10 minutes and no elevator came so i tried using the stairs and i basically got locked out because the stairs only led to an emergency exit. so then i slacked dave and he got me from the 3rd floor stairwell and sent me up the correct elevator...LOL x_x; i got my ID and then spent like 15 minutes downloading the wework app and putting in my information to get my card activated...

after all of that, i spent like 15 minutes finding the product team office @_@; lol i messaged cole and after finding out where the numbers on the doors were (tiny stickered numbered on the door latches), i found my way. then i spent a good amount of time setting up, plugging everything in, setting up my desk, and then cole stopped by and he gave me a small tour. i got to catch up a bit with the dev team, and then i hopped on my 11 am call. cole tried to get me for lunch but i was still on the call and i just ate lunch in the office. they went to south station for some reason... haha there is pretty much no good food there. :P i got on my 1 pm call and then went on stand up and got on to another call until 3:30 pm. so yeah... then i went upstairs the main floor and used the ‘honesty market’ and got some kinda overpriced unreal almond butter cups because i wanted a snack. then i worked while watching ‘love connection’ and ended my first work day at wework. i flipping hate the elevators right now. oh, i also had to go back and get office keys... the wework staff was off their game or something today. @_@;

i got home and snacked a bit before doing some ab hiit workouts lol. then i showered and bummed around until kevin got home. he came back from climbing and then he cooked a really late dinner. i ate leftovers from yesterday and ate a bit of dinner at like 9:30 pm...haha. i massaged my neck with the back massage pillow and i got really sleepy. i ended up sleeping sitting upright after eating because i didn’t want my stomach to hurt from just eating and then going to sleep xD kevin tried waking me up an hour later and then i think i slept for another hour before getting up and sleeping in bed at like 11:40 pm... i was so tired for some reason.

08: i got the best deep sleep i’ve ever gotten LOL, but my resting heart rate has increased again to 59?? idk, sometimes it skyrockets up when i change the band? but i don’t think that has anything to do with it? my heart rate for the past two weeks have been consistently in the low 50s. i even made it to a 49 resting heart rate at one point. hmm idk. i was well-rested but still physically tired so i did a low-impact workout in the morning. i took my time getting ready and eating breakfast. i found two holes in my bombas socks and decided to email them and ask how long their socks are supposed to last?? they’re all jacked up from my europe trip for some reason ;( i got to work at 9:30 am and then went straight to work while catching up with tv shows: love connection, masterchef, world of dance, and more love connection haha. it was a pretty dull day at work. i got to talk to charles for a bit though but he left after lunch since no dev was in the office today. i stayed at work until 6 pm to go to happy hour with the team at les zygomates after work.

we got an email saying that the room with the den is now available for us to look at. deco did us wrong when we told them we were interested at looking at it before and then they had someone sign the lease before notifying us? what? but, we’ll see if we move apartments to a bigger space ;D anyway, the product team walked over to the bar and we met up with everyone else. i got to talk to dave cowing and also, talked to dave about wine and etc. i got to talk with cait about traveling and jim kept making fun of me because i ended up holding the fries basket and i ate the rest of them in there haha. cait asked how old i was and i got everyone to guess. guesses ranged from 16 (LOL) to 26/27 but no one said 23. i think most of the boston team thought i was older than my age :P it was a lot of fun talking to everyone! i stayed until 7:40 pm or so and then went home. dave and joe kindly let me borrow a battery pack and mini usb cord so i could charge my dying phone on my way back home.

kevin finished eating when i got back so we ate blueberries for our dessert. then i rested a bit before doing butt exercises. my heart rate went up to 153 bpm :O i burned a lot more calories than usual today and i could tell i was going to be sore tomorrow... i showered and then ko’d on the bed with my glasses on... why is this a thing? i woke up an hour later and then brushed my teeth and went to sleep again. i’ve been so exhausted after working out these past few days? idk why. lol, like how did i sleep at 10 pm yesterday...?

09: i woke up at 8 am and then did weighted standing oblique exercises. i’m kinda bored with just my body weight right now so mind as well try to do exercises with these 2 lb weights i took from hillary a while ago hahaha. so appreciative of bae for letting me keep these. kevin also woke up pretty early and went for a run :O i showered and then ate breakfast and i just snacked so much throughout the day. is my period coming or something? lol. i just feel extra snack-y. i couldn’t bring myself to be really productive so i made goodie bags for the t7 boston office with the chocolates i got from my trip and made a nice guide to what they are with illustrator ;D kevin went to get a haircut and when he came back, we ate lunch, and then i went on stand up and right into another meeting, where i was just soooo confused. lol, phil asked me where i stood and i couldn’t lie so i told him i was just extremely confused about what they were talking about??? then phil went out for lunch and i took a break to watch some dota with kevin. oh, kevin wfh’d today too and he watched the tournament on the tv the entire day. hehe, reminds me of last summer~

then we went to view the apartment and right as they asked if we wanted it, kevin said ‘yes, probably.’ he was so excited, lololol. i was pretty full from snacking all day @_@; so i wasn’t concerned about dinner. i started reading my botm and then got myself into making the perler bead snorlax we got from the spelmuseum in stockholm. lol man, perler beads move around too much x_x; kevin tried ironing it, but he did it unevenly and i fixed it by spot heating the areas the best that i can. we did this all while watching dota. then i went to exercise and kevin irritated me by asking me questions while i was working out and also yelling at me for putting socks on his mouse pad? they were clean socks first of all .___. calm yo shizz dude. i showered and then hit the hay at like 11:45 pm. i went to sleep pretty irritated with kevin...

10: i did some hip hop cardio today so that motivated me to exercise this morning ;D then i showered and ate breakfast. i was out the door earlier than i expected and i filled my charlie card with money before hopping on the train, woot! i was very social today @_@; i stopped by the dev offices to give everyone their nordic chocolate goodie bags. i talked with the devs and michelle for a bit before getting to the office. dave wouldn’t be in until noon and joe always comes at random times. then i switched from contacts to glasses because i wanted to test my glasses out in my work environment. the switch was weird because my contacts are slightly less than my glasses (still have a good amount of contacts left). most of my team mates said they didn’t recognized me but really liked my frames :) cole said i looked intellectual and that they were super shiny. i got to work while watching masterchef and then joe came in and i talked with him a bit while working. then i had to figure out where to eat for lunch. it was tech time today so the devs got food from dumpling house -- i stopped by to see what everyone got.

i decided to check downstairs and see what restaurant was downstairs today. it was u&d kitchen (restaurant nearby the old office) and i got dumplings with pad thai. i ate lunch in the office and then tried working but my mouse was out of battery and i had to charge it. apple mice cannot be used while they are charging -_-’ so i did work very inefficiently. then i got started on my next assignment and got really confused about my deliverables and i got it cleared up during stand up. i showcased the work i just finished on stand up and then got off right at 2:30 pm. cole stopped by and we went to gracenote, a coffeeshop. i got their ginger chai latte with almond milk and cole was also interested in that and got it as well. we took our first sips without mixing it (LOL) and realized we needed to mix it in order for it not to taste like only milk. so we walked back to wework and then sat down in the kitchen and talked and drank our lattes -- they were good! i updated him on my trip and then cait and raj stopped by and we chatted with them along with joe.

i think like 40 minutes passed by and we went back to our offices. i felt all productivity leave my body and slacked cole the rest of the afternoon while trying to work on my project. at 3:30 pm, joe went to get smores from the 8th floor and cole messaged me to go up there. i didn’t want to eat one but peer pressure got to me (charles and cole tsk tsk) and i ate one. it was fun talking to cole and charles up there though. charles decided to leave afterward and cole went back to the office where steve was working very hard :( lol i walked in earlier and kind of joked that i was going to be john for the next few hours because john left already ...and he was on the phone with john... awks. he was still on the phone with john when we came back from eating smores. i went back and did some digging to figure out how to continue with my project and then it hit 5 pm. i stopped by and asked cole if he was ready to leave and then i went back and packed up and changed into my contacts.

we walked to cvs in south station because my lays flavor competition chips’ shipment got delayed >:( i wanted them now so i went to see if i could buy them at this cvs -- no luck. we walked to our sides of the tracks and then i got on a cart with no a/c...but i stood strong and got a seat and the train restarted and the a/c turned on again hehe. i got home and then continued talking to daniel about cross training / work out shoe recommendations. my fitbit needed a firmware update and missed reminding me to take 250 steps at 6 pm... at around 7:15 pm, i started working out and then kevin came back from climbing. i finished up my work out, showered, and kevin set up our spring roll dinner. lol he forgot to buy cucumber and also forgot to make the noodles so the rolls were pretty empty but i didn’t mind because i was full from the pad thai. then we cleaned up and i decided not to get any shoes... they’re too ugly or they don’t have enough support. x__x; kevin watched dota for the rest of the night and then gamed.
