24 but slightly altered - what was the inspiration for some of your major AUs? Especially curious about Woodwork :)
I don't know if I can talk about "major AUS" considering I only have 7 fics posted for now... I'll take out dawn Chorus and go one by one in chronological order.
Gonna be long and forgive my grammar
-Afternoon Road Waving Grass
I don't remember what exactly started it. I know I wanted to write a platonic/ non explicit joshler fic (and we all know how it ended) in which they were uni students, and I had this "what are we" scene in my head. So I started planning this scene, in which the dialogue was happening via home phone, and all was going great until I realized that in 2024 no twenty-something uses a home phone to talk with their friends, rather they chat. So I had to move everything in a period where home phones were the main thing, asked my mom and she said the 80's, "hey wasn't AIDS a thing in the 80's?", looked for a documentary online to know how to write the historic setting right... and it ended up rewiring my brain. If you have 4 hours to educate yourself, watch it. Other materials are listed in the bottom notes of the fic.
-Woodwork
The video of The Craving, rather than the song. I think I listened to it once or twice, before and while writing? The video is what sticked to my brain the most. Josh was supposed to be a solitary asshole since the start, I don't remember when nor why I decided to make him deaf, chopping Tyler's left leg was to spicy things up a pinch more. Both their backstories were built to answer to a question I made myself: "why is Josh a solitary asshole?" Because something happened to him that made him like that. "So what happened?" Then made my brain work on that. Tyler was easier. Also, in the past I had read some fics "with" deafness, disability and chronic pain (mostly by Edy and tjstar). They helped me a lot.
In my head, Josh's house is my father's family house in the balkans. The surroundings and the village described in the story are, or are inspired from, the real existing place my father comes from. The village with a single stony road, the town at the feet of the mountain. Years ago a there was a cloudburst that caused tons of damage to both, and another time there was a smaller one that caught my family and I while on the road. Water got in the engine and shut the car down. My father grabbed me from the back seat like a cat and yeeted (yote?) me in a friend of his' car who brought me up in the village, while my family waited the tow truck Seeing all that rain come down was scary. The car dying under my butt, scarier. When we all returned home I was the only one dry.
Artist Tyler is a trope I like a lot (I don't even know why). It came natural to me to make him so, it also gave me an excuse to fit some top lore/stuff/elements. I thinks that's all.
EDIT: I was gonna forget this. Josh's difficulty with his feelings is an enhanced "version" of my own. I often find myself not understanding how I feel in certain situation or about/with certain people, both in positive and negative cases. But Tyler's anxieties too are my own, and not that much enhanced.
I wanted a quiet love for them.
-Nature's Naked Face
Have you ever come across this post? With the TV series of The Last Of Us + my own thoughts about the recovery of the Earth thanks to the extinction of humanity (we have all seen the general improvements during the pandemic) + I DEMAND A GOOD ENDING And still make the vibes somehow soft despite the apocalyptic setting. A soft and colored apocalypse.
-Evolutionary sleeper
This one would need a post all for itself. To make it short, I forced myself to carve a story out of the homonymous song by Cynic. I quickly realized I needed a "filling" to the setting I had in my head, and looked for it into Nietzsche's philosophy (mostly the parts of Thus Spoke Zarathustra I had studied in high school. In the book, the dragon is an allegory of the Church *wink wink*), with some of my own beliefs. The hardest, worst writing process I've had in six years and half. Never again. PS: Blurryface is terrified while trying to kill Tyler because he cares about him and dreads Tyler's supposed destiny after committing sodomy. He's terrified for Tyler.
-The Growls From The Waters
Easy. I saw that moodboard you had made, did not read the fic BUT read the tags --> brain started cooking --> "HMM horror? let's go read some horror" --> read some Lovecraft horror stories and lowkey copied his story building style and descriptive sequences. Inserting elements from Dema lore came naturally. Oh and I had also played Dredge few months prior, I love Dredge. The smut was gratuitous and absolutely necessary.
-Suspirium
The movie Suspiria (2018) directed by Luca Guadagnino. 75% is identical to the movie's plot. Though, the OST was the BIGGEST inspiration. Like a user said in a comment, and made me understand, the music is a character itself. If you're not too bothered by body horror, I suggest you watch it! Not the best movie ever made, still a piece of art. The music is better than the movie though
#thom yorke. do i even need to add else#gfr#trying to recall all this stuff made me realize how shitty my memory is#THANK YOU!!!#💛💛💛#edits to this post may happen in the future#if you have additional questions. i'm here!#you made me reflect a lot#ask#vialism#and also thank you for giving me an excuse to talk talk talk explain#woodwork#afternoon road waving grass#the growls from the waters#evolutionary sleeper#nature's naked face#suspirium

i was lucky enough to never have had my wisdom teeth come in despite having (some of) them. anyway after having a molar extracted because it was cheaper than getting it fixed in the backwards uncivilized healthcare system of the yankee regime the one viable wisdom tooth that the dentist i saw in my early 20s said would likely never come in because it was all up in there in my skull was activated like a sleeper agent ready to execute the purpose it evolved through millions of years to fulfill. which is really cool and like a religious experience #to me. however it turns out if you secrete the wisdom teeth hormone you don't get to pick and choose which ones it activates. the lord evolutionary biology giveth and he taketh away

More Chiss head canons
Why, yes. I am geeking out.
1: The Chiss came from a 'sleeper ship' that missed its target world around 30,000 years ago after being launched from the Ratukan Empire. The ship spent 3,000 or 4,000 years in transit. The Humans who reached Csilla found not a welcoming world, but a planet that experienced periodic ice ages.
2: The Chiss skin color evolved from minerals in the hydrosphere, and were later found to be a silica-based life form that acted as a symbiont, allowing rapid evolutionary changes. The life form is now extinct, but slotted itself into the genes of the settlers and has remained in Chiss DNA and is outwardly reflected in their iridescent 'freckles' - which are a silicate similar to mica. The freckles will shed from time to time over the course of a Chiss' life. It was debated at the time that this was a sapient life form that was dying out, and 'invaded' the settlers to survive. Others argued that it was a type megavirus or even a hive virus with no sentience. Many settlers died from the 'infection' in a time called 'The Interval' before Ancient Chiss evolved into Modern Chiss about 5,000 years after the founding.
3: The Chiss terraformed Csilla over tens of thousands of years, turning it into a garden world, settling other worlds in the same time period. Before the Intergalactic War where they allied with the Sith, the Chiss governed an empire. After the Intergalactic War and the use of the Starflash along with Ratukan weaponry, the Chiss never terraformed another planet as penance for their sins.
4: Hundreds of Chiss colonies were lost to the warfare that created the Chaos. What is not mentioned in any modern history course is that the Chaos was created deliberately to confound both Sith and Jedi. The Chaos interfered, as as seen in Alliances, with the ability to find other Force users in the Chaos. Palpatine could not find the Sky-walkers until they were taken beyond the borders of the Chaos.
5: Chiss history is heavily redacted. After the Intergalactic War, they changed even their system of writing to make it incomprehensible to outsiders. Cheunh is not allowed to be spoken in the presence of outsiders, and communication instead relies on trade languages like Minnisiat. Meese Caulf, and Sy Bisti.
6: There are Chiss intelligence agents in 'Lesser Space' and even in the Empire and Rebellion itself. Candidates must be smaller than average and undertake extensive surgical remodeling to pass as other species. It includes eye transplants, and only the most dedicated (fanatical) of intelligence officers will undergo the years-long process. The program is top-level clearance, with six people at a time knowing about the program and allowed to read the briefs. The Supreme Admiral, the Supreme General, the UAG Chief, the Speaker of the Syndicure, and two civilians who are kept anonymous.
7: The histories of many planets speaks of blue warriors, or even blue gods who disappeared 5,000 years back. Chiss ruins can be found on Hoth, though nobody can now read the language.
8: There are Chiss who live outside the Ascendancy, descended from exiles and those who fled in other ways. If any Chiss of the Ascendancy happens on the Outlanders, they are instructed to report immediately, detain if possible, terminate in extreme cases only. In some cases, these Outlanders have hundreds of years outside of the Ascendancy and are not keen on going back.
9: Yes, there are a number of women in the CEDF, and nobody would stand in their way. As with Lakinda/Ziinda, it's a way for girls of Common and Lesser families to move up and secure their future outside of making a good match and having children. Blood-born girls like Ziara are heavily pressured not to join.
10: Upon leaving service, Sky-walkers are not encouraged to talk to others about being Sky-walkers, even to other former Sky-walkers. They are largely isolated by the Ruling Families, and pushed to marry within their adoptive or an allied House. Many do marry within their adopting House as it is well-known that the little girls of Ruling Houses are seldom chosen as Sky-walkers.

A SPIRITUAL CONSPIRACY~~
On the surface of the world right now there is
war and violence and things seem dark.
But calmly and quietly, at the same time,
something else is happening underground
An inner revolution is taking place
and certain individuals are being called to a higher light.
It is a silent revolution.
From the inside out. From the ground up.
This is a Global operation.
A Spiritual Conspiracy.
There are sleeper cells in every nation on the planet.
You wont see us on the T.V.
You wont read about us in the newspaper
You wont hear about us on the radio
We don't seek any glory
We don't wear any uniform
We come in all shapes and sizes, colors and styles
Most of us work anonymously
We are quietly working behind the scenes
in every country and culture of the world
Cities big and small, mountains and valleys,
in farms and villages, tribes and remote islands
You could pass by one of us on the street
and not even notice
We go undercover
We remain behind the scenes
It is of no concern to us who takes the final credit
But simply that the work gets done
Occasionally we spot each other in the street
We give a quiet nod and continue on our way
During the day many of us pretend we have normal jobs
But behind the false storefront at night
is where the real work takes a place
Some call us the Conscious Army
We are slowly creating a new world
with the power of our minds and hearts
We follow, with passion and joy
Our orders come from the Central Spiritual Intelligence
We are dropping soft, secret love bombs when no one is looking
Poems ~ Hugs ~ Music ~ Photography ~ Movies ~ Kind words ~
Smiles ~ Meditation and prayer ~ Dance ~ Social activism ~ Websites
Blogs ~ Random acts of kindness...
Releasing grudges, letting go of judgments..
We each express ourselves in our own unique ways
with our own unique gifts and talents
Be the change you want to see in the world
That is the motto that fills our hearts
We know it is the only way real transformation takes place
We know that quietly and humbly we have the
power of all the oceans combined
Our work is slow and meticulous
Like the formation of mountains
It is not even visible at first glance
And yet with it entire tectonic plates
shall be moved in the centuries to come
Love is the new religion of the 21st century
You don't have to be a highly educated person
Or have any exceptional knowledge to understand it
It comes from the intelligence of the heart
Embedded in the timeless evolutionary pulse of all human beings
Be the change you want to see in the world
Nobody else can do it for you
We are now recruiting
Perhaps you will join us
Or already have.
All are welcome
The door is open~

I sometimes wonder whether there's really a "world of people", and this is just a linguistic accident.
Like, suppose that at some point in our evolutionary history we gradually lost the ability to communicate and reason about the non-human parts of the world with any kind of fluency.
In that case, and in most other ways, we'd be exactly like other apes. There'd be humans around -- human bodies that moved and behaved like ours, feeling pain and pleasure and wanting to eat and sleep and laugh and generally doing all the fun "ape-like" things apes do. But it would be hard to sort out what was going on in their brains, and it would be hard to communicate with them in any deep way.
Their minds would be like mine, when I'm floating in a dreamless sleep, except that they would never be alert. They wouldn't have any ideas of their own, they wouldn't be at all conscious of themselves as conscious, and they'd never have thoughts or feelings like mine, either. They'd be stuck in a kind of unfused "sleeper mode," that lasted forever.
These people would live their entire lives without ever having any contact with the actual outside world, and their brains would never be able to talk about it with anyone. They would just live on, never developing the ability to talk about anything at all.
And if you looked at them, you wouldn't notice a single difference from the ape you had in your cage. But in all other respects, this human would be an endless horizon of nothingness, a thing that never gets any deeper.
#i don't really believe this but it has kind of a compelling emotional/philosophical resonance to it#metablognition

Gowrow – Sleeper Titan/Le Titan Endormi
The Gowrow (Foverosaurus arkansanesis; formerly as Verdisquamata cruribrevis) is the one of the mythical creature and guardian introduced in Worldcraft: Swan Story. The minor characters in this series, now minor deuteragonist in Worldcraft: Fairytale's Ending. The first-ever fanged beast and a dinosaur other than Titanios.
Take Note: All of my drawings and photos of people, animals, plants, mythology, disasters, organizations, events, and more are purely fictitious. These are included in real-life situations and events with fictional characters or creatures that aren't real, be at your own risk. For nationality or indigenous, be advised. Ognimdo.
Terminology
The restored quadruped dinosaur, known as Lord of Sleeper by White American lumberjacks and Señor Templado by Hispanic Americans, was discovered in Arkansas, USA, after being unbeaten against Spanish conquistadors and the British Empire.
Physicial Appearance (Changes)
Gowrow is a massive, snarling dinosaur that resembles the Crystal Palace dinosaur. It is covered in massive olive green spikes and robust shells that are arranged and worn from the neck to the fatty-tip tail, as well as the shoulders, elbows, knees, and chin. It even has ears. It has brown stockings and glove markings, enormous, sharp claws on its legs, and a similar structure on its tail that was sharper than a blade.
Apart from its terrifying spikes, Gowrow's unique trait is the pair of terrible tusks on its head, which sets it apart from Titanios and Makara. Both of these tusks are almost as long as the head itself. Gowrow's underside has spike dew on it close to the chin and is a much yellower green mango color than the rest of its body. Gowrow's eye color is a sexual dimorphism; ladies have shorter lower fangs, and men have longer two fangs. Because of sexual dimorphism, females have shorter tusks than males, while males are larger and have more spikes on the back to tail. They are both from the United States of America, and Gowrow's closest relative is Hodag.
Their average size and mass of the Gowrow is 6 meters tall (according to their residents in Arkansas) to allegedly 21 meters tall (the literally kaiju in their USA state); 17 meters long in length; and 360 kilograms.
Gowrow is reclassified as a Flying Wyvern due to its evolutionary line; Gowrow is no longer capable of flight, and only has small nubs left of their original wings. Its closest known relatives are Akantor, Ukanlos, and Odibatorasu.
Abilities
Gowrow's latent talents prevent them from using magic until they become angry, but their unique organ sacs contain drowsy miasma. This animal gives off a half-moon glow that makes their whole body howl. Because of their immense power, Gowrow can have a very detrimental impact on the habitat in which they live. Because the boreal forest is their primary home and their territory, predators and prey run away from this big dinosaur.
The only predators that would dare challenge them against Gowrow are the larger ones. They will devour you whole with their arsenal of comatose roars, many body spines, massive tusks, and tremendous physical strength. Gowrow's loud roars have the ability to produce a kind of "sonic beam" contaminated with sleeping breath that is strong enough to shoot down any passing aircraft without leaving any trace.

I'm bored asfuck at work what are you favorite animals right now
i think the stauromedusa / stalked jellyfish are a sleeper hit if you want to get in early on some animals nobody knows about. its just some jellyfish that decided to live upside down and stuck to the ground forever & i think theyre neat
the noble flamingo of course always in style, love them for their evolutionary strategy of living in such fucked up conditions that nothing even wants to eat their eggs/babies because they live in Hell
the bearded vulture or ossifrage another lovely bird that like the flamingo is not naturally red! they roll around in mineral rich dirt to get that nice rust color. also they eat bones which is awesome
i am also fond of the giraffe. the bumps on their head are not horns , theyre called ossicones and generally female giraffes have tufts of fur on theirs and males dont, which is a great fact to bust out to impress people at the zoo. also sometimes they have more than just the two on the top of their head, they can have a third one right in the middle or even more pairs coming out of different skull bones.
my favorite mammal is still the takin though. they just have such sweet faces awwwww awww i dont know any cool facts about them i just think theyre cute
ok those are my top 5 animals of saturday december 7th 2024

Cynic / Obscura
Mar 27, 2024 - Hole44 (Berlin)
Quite some time has passed since Cynic were at their heights, but it turns out they still got it. The tour “The Focus Of A Valediction” celebrated their Focus album and it’s re-release. This was also a co-headliner tour with Obscura, a german technical death metal band who I was not too familiar with.
Steffen, the frontman of Obscura, had a dangerously pointy guitar. The bass player had a six-string fretless. Who knows why, since very rarely there would be space for the bass to shine through. Their tunes were loud and sharp. They were fun, a healthy dose of all metal tropes.
During the break, we were wondering how it's going with the Donny Benét show which was on the same day.
Anyway, Cynic opened with “Veil of Maya,” and Paul had this calm, almost zen presence. There were a few moments where his vocoder effects stayed on while he was talking to the audience, which added a bit of humor to the set. The growling parts on Cynic set were taken over by Steffen, which was awesome—and a relief for Paul, who joked he’s too old for that now.
In a touching moment, the song Integral was dedicated to their two late band members who both passed in 2020. The encore continued with a couple more songs, and with people shouting out song names in-between. Everyone wanted to hear Adam's Murmur and Evolutionary Sleeper. Finally, these two songs were played as well, which gave a powerful ending to the show.
As they wrapped up, Paul hung around to greet the fans in front of the stage. That was very sweet of him.
Rating: 8/10 Very dorky, but in a good way

Breena, the Demagogue
Hey everyone! Though it's been a while, I'm back today with another top-15 commander list. This time we're building Commander 2021's Breena, the Demagogue. This eloquent warlock serves as a solid political piece, card-draw engine, and beater, able to both keep you stocked for the long game and threaten commander damage.
My own take on this commander in particular started as an aggro deck helmed by Baldur's Gate's Lae'zel; after some playtesting, I eventually found that Breena can lead the same strategy with much greater reliability. In particular, I've had many games where opponents who haven't played with her before underestimate just how big she can become when they take her deal. Today we're going to look at 15 of my favorite cards to run with her, though the numbered list is entirely arbitrary: each of these is as good as another in the appropriate circumstances.
#1: Fetid Gargantua 4B, 4/4 Horror. "2B: Adapt 2 (If it had no +1 counters, give it two +1 counters.)" and "Whenever one or more +1 counters are put on it, you may draw 2 cards and lose 2 life." Modern Horizons 3 brought a number of high-power commons and uncommons to Magic, and Fetid Gargantua is an underrated but equally-powerful one. Though often overshadowed by it's green kin Evolutionary Witness, the Gargantua offers another strong benefit using the same method. Every time it gets one or more counters, you have the option of drawing two cards. (The life loss is irrelevant.) With Breena alone on board, if you can trigger her ability this sleeper common can immediately draw you three additional cards during combat (one for Breena's ability and two for itself.) Once you put other cards on board that distribute counters, it can draw you far more cards, and if an opponent chooses to trigger Breena to draw for themselves you have the option of drawing two additional cards by putting counters on the Gargantua.
#2: Elite Scaleguard 4W, 2/3 Human Soldier. "When it enters the battlefield, put two +1 counters on a creature you control with the least toughness." and "Whenever a creature you control with a +1 counter attacks, tap target creature defending player controls." This uncommon from Tarkir block lives again in Breena. While it's effect on an empty board is minimal, it offers you the ability to tap down creatures before they can be declared as blockers. Though a simple effect, it can be a devastating way to force damage through.
#3: Felidar Retreat 3W, Enchantment. "Whenever a land enters under your control, choose one: Create a 2/2 creature token, or put a +1 counter on each of your creatures and give them vigilance this turn. Felidar Retreat performed well for a while after its release in Zendikar Rising, but has largely been forgotten in favor of newer, more versatile cards (notably, cards that don't require either a tokens deck or a counters deck to function.) In Breena, however, the second option for its landfall ability provides immense utility: For every land drop, you can buff your entire board (potentially even triggering the ability on Fetid Gargantua, seen earlier on this list.) As an added bonus, vigilance will allow you to swing with impunity, keeping blockers available while getting your Breena triggers.
#4: Together Forever WW, Enchantment. "When it enters, put a +1 counter on each of up to two target creatures." and "1: When target creature with a counter on it dies this turn, return it to its owner's hand." Battlebond was perhaps one of my favorite sets of all time, and this enchantment showcases some of the set's greatest strengths. While Together Forever's first ability really only enables other effects, the latter is immensely valuable. For only a single mana per creature, you can protect it from standard removal, returning it to your hand to recast later. Though I haven't yet had the occasion pop up, you can also use it politically on your opponents' creatures, allowing them to more easily rebuild their boards.
#5: Promise of Loyalty 4W, Sorcery. "Each player puts a vow counter on one of their creatures and sacrifices the rest. Those creatures can't attack you for as long as they have vow counters." Promise of Loyalty (from Strixhaven Commander, like Breena) is perhaps one of my favorite board wipes. Rather than simply destroying the whole board, you let each player choose a creature to keep: unlike other similar effects however, Promise keeps those creatures pointed away from you. This not only allows the political angle of everyone keeping their best creature, you also get to choose a creature to keep. Most often this will be Breena, but many occasions may arise where another creature is overall more relevant to your game plan.
#6: Hagra Constrictor 2B, 0/0 Snake. "It enters with 2 +1 counters." and "Each creature you control with a +1 counter has menace." While you'll likely have many such creatures that benefit your creatures with counters, Hagra Constrictor has two main advantages that set it apart from the rest: It is one of two black cards that interact with your creatures in this way (the other is Mer-Ek Nightblade for deathtouch), and it is the only one that grants menace. On its own it makes blocking choices much more difficult, since Breena will often be huge (and naturally flies), but paired with Elite Scaleguard you can easily use it to make blocking completely impossible.
#7: Sparring Regimen 2W, Enchantment. "When it enters, you may discard a card to draw a card." and "Whenever you attack, put a +1 counter on target attacking creature and untap it." Sparring Regimen is often a silent bomb with Breena. Usually, other players won't even register it as a threat (making it much more likely to both resolve and dodge removal.) Once you start swinging however many change their tune, as the single-target pseudo-vigilance can keep Breena or whatever choice attacker you have also functioning as a reliable blocker. As a small added benefit, rummage-on-entry can help you dig through bad draws into the meat of your deck.
#8: Necropolis Regent 3BBB, 6/5 Vampire. Flying and "Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, put that many +1 counters on it." This is an amazing top-end card for Breena to win games with. As a finisher, a triple-black mana cost is barely enough to blink at in this two-color deck, and it essentially doubles the size of your creatures every time they get through for damage. Breena will usually hit for between 5 and 8 damage before Regent comes into play every turn in most late games; this can easily threaten death to any player foolish enough to ignore it.
#9: Noble Heritage (Honorable Mention: Orzhov Advokist) 1W, Enchantment. "Commander creatures you own have 'When this creature enters or at your upkeep, each player may put two +1 counters on a creature they control. You gain protection from each opponent who does until your next turn.'" (Honorable Mention): 2W, 1/4 Human Advisor. "At your upkeep, each player may put two +1 counters on a creature they control. Players who do can't attack you or your planeswalkers until your next turn." While both of these cards function extremely similarly, Noble Heritage gives you a slightly more powerful effect at a slightly lower mana cost, at the price of requiring Breena to be in play to function. Either protects you from players who take the deal for a turn, and you can do the effect at no penalty regardless of whether they do.
#10: Lethal Scheme (Honorable Mention: Closing Statement) 2BB, Instant. "Convoke (You can tap creatures to pay for this spell, counting each creature as either 1 generic mana or 1 mana of that creature's color.)" and "Destroy target creature. Each creature that convoked this connives. (For each of those creatures, draw then discard. Put a +1 counter on that creature if you discarded a nonland card." (Honorable Mention): 3WB, Instant. "It costs 2 less to cast during your end step." and "Destroy target creature or planeswalker, then put a +1 counter on up to one target creature you don't control." These cards both give you a strong benefit, even at their high cost: instant-speed removal that can also put counters on your creatures. Lethal Scheme is the better of the two, being able to convoke it and potentially throwing more counters around, but Closing Statement can easily be only 3 mana and hit planeswalkers as well.
#11: Citadel Siege 2WW, Enchantment. "As it enters, choose Khans or Dragons. As Khans, when you go to combat put two +1 counters on a creature you control. As Dragons, when an opponent goes to combat tap one of their creatures." I've always liked Fate Reforged's Siege cycle of enchantments, which in turn had a later pseudo-addition in the original Modern Horizons. Most important of them to this deck is Citadel Siege. Either mode can function well in the right situation, though for Breena I usually choose Khans. As with your other counter-distributing functions, Citadel Siege is just a reliable part of a hard-hitting engine, one made all the better for its presence.
#12: Mikaeus, the Lunarch XW, 0/0 Human Cleric. "It enters with X +1 counters", "Tap: Put a +1 counter on it", and "Tap, Remove a +1 counter from it: Put a +1 counter on each of your other creatures." Mikaeus gets more flexibility in Breena than most decks, many of which gladly run him regardless. Breena, however, can make his final ability only upside, as the deck has plenty of ways to replace those counters. With even a two-mana investment you can play Mikaeus as a 1/1, attack with anything to give him two counters, then shrink him down to buff your board. Each turn you can repeat this, quickly growing everything else to threatening proportions.
#13: Guardian Scalelord 4W, 3/4 Dragon. "Backup 1 (When it enters, put a +1 counter on a creature. If that creature isn't itself, that creature gets its non-backup abilities until end of turn", "Flying", and "Whenever this creature attacks, return target nonland permanent card that costs less than or equal to its power from your graveyard to play." While Guardian Scalelord's flying is redundant on Breena, it does offer consistent recursion for some of your best permanents. Though affected by summoning sickness like most other creatures, the Scalelord's backup ability can grant this recursion to another creature for a turn, giving you additional use even if the dragon never survives long enough to attack.
#14: Cauldron of Souls 5, Artifact. "Tap: Any number of target creatures gain persist until end of turn (When they die, if they had no -1 counters, they come back with a -1 counter.)" Cauldron of Souls has seen extensive commander use for years in any number of decks. With Breena, however, you have easy means to put +1 counters on your creatures, dispelling the -1 counters from Cauldron. At worst this will make Breena much harder to remove, since she can usually guarantee counters on herself (or another choice creature), but late game this can keep most of your board alive even through wraths every round.
#15: Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher 3WB, 2/2 Vampire Soldier. "Flying", "Whenever anybody sacrifices a permanent, you gain 1 life and put a +1 counter on her", and "Whenever she attacks, put up to one target permanent that costs less than or equal to her power from your graveyard into play." One of the alternate commanders for the somewhat-recent Ixalan Commander decks, Carmen is usually seen in heavy aristocrats and treasure-synergy decks. While we won't be using this aspect of her in Breena, she still flies. As an added bonus, Breena can easily buff her such that she can grab bigger things from your bin every turn.
While the newest of my pet decks, Breena has quickly earned her place. She's powerful, aggressive, and most of all fun, offering both individual strength and political power to colors which can often struggle to branch out from generic aristocrats strategies. Though she falls apart quickly when the game comes down to 1v1, you'll have a blast up until then, and with enough momentum you may yet claim victory. Win or lose, I hope to see you all on the battlefield.

Valentina Gomez: homophobe with flamethrower
While attending a book reading last week, Valentina Gomez, a Republican candidate for Missouri Secretary of State, took two books from the library shelves and burned them out the front of the library with a homemade flamethrower.
Only in America we might reassure ourselves. But tryhard far-right Australian wingnuts are importing the rooting-tooting Yankee book-burning fervour to these shores.
Valentina Gomez came to @springfieldlib Friday for a book reading and decided to take these books from our shelves and burn them with her homemade flame thrower.

Some cadidates conceal the true nature of their malignant sociopathy. Then there’s Valentina Gomez. https://t.co/pgkVqUPpDG

Whether Gomez has any chance of winning the election for Secretary of State, or even the Republican nomination, we have no idea.
She’s an immigrant whose family moved to the US from Colombia in 2009. Yet she rails against ‘illegal immigrants’ as ‘sleeper agents’ lying in wait to turn on the US.
She appears to come from the Marjorie Taylor Greene/Lauren Boebert school of say any old shit that will get a headline.
The 24-year-old proclaims on social media that Jesus is her King. But little Creationist Baby Jesus would probably weep tears of blood over her evolutionary beliefs. In a tweet insisting there are only two genders, Gomez promises that Darwinism will take care of her rainbow bullies. (You know – cos gays can’t have babies. 🤪) Perhaps as insurance against Darwinism failing, Gomez is pictured at the end of the video holding some great big gun.
Because the sort of people who burn books, are always willing to turn to violence. After all — book burning started with the Nazis.

taking naps together
this is an interesting one. as humans, it is against our evolutionary traits to allow others the opportunity to catch us off guard while we are sleeping. many species (and many humans) are light sleepers purely as a defense mechanism, in case something happens to sneak up on them during some much-needed shuteye. we must be sure of our own safety in order to sleep well. but some people are special. some people, we just want to curl up at their side and drift off, knowing we'll be safe even if we are unaware. and maybe that's a little more significant to you than it is for others. whether it's real, in person sleeping in a bed with someone, or you just like to keep them on the other end of the phone while you doze off, sleeping is an opportunity for you to express just how safe they make you feel. sweet dreams, my dear. i hope you get to hold your love in your arms very soon.
i made a uquiz! what is your unorthodox love language?

Lately I’ve been thinking about how there must be a mix of degrees of empathy—or maybe a normal curve—because we must have evolved for it. If one tribe had someone who lacked empathy and was able to then take over another tribe and hoard resources, there’s an obvious evolutionary advantage. But if no one had empathy, the social fabric of humanity would fall apart. So, like there’s a mix of phase-advanced, typical, and phase-delayed sleepers, to provide us with a well-rounded group, the presence of these less empathetic, less moral people is not a glitch. I’m sure there’s actually a massive body of literature on this somewhere that I’ve just never gotten into, but it’s been making me rethink a lot of my assumptions. I suppose I’ve been thinking about it so much because of the war.
It’s bizarre to me that I’ve always thought of empathy, morals, and ethics as if these are things we can come to a consensus to. As if there’s a right way to be.
