Cherry and Plum from Evoland 2! It's a fun game that i really recommend

So I drew Plum and Cherry this morning, because I was thinking about them, and I also realized I hadn’t drawn them before

I ended up sketching them like a bajillion times, though less because I was struggling with the designs, and more because I kept fiddling with how I wanted to draw them

To be honest, I think I would have been better off just going with the original sketch, and then doing the rougher lineart. Might have turned out better than me trying to pretty it without knowing what to do

But yeah, Plum and Cherry

I don’t really have much else to say on here to be honest. I think they’re neat characters, and I’d like to know more about them. Though granted there’s not much reason to learn more, considering they were minor characters

Though I guess that’s what headcanon and fanon is for, filling in the blanks for characters you like. I should probably do that more in all honesty

But yeah, have this. Maybe I’ll make a version with the original sketch, considering I still have it

AKA, the “Characters that deserved better” day

Day #18 is Misfit:

We have our friend Alex of course. He’s had it rough, seeing his home taken by corporations, people he loved die right in front of him, and on top of it all his head is worth millions. Luckily, he has someone to watch his back...

And then we have the three survivors of Demonia, the edgelord himself Reno and the twins Cherry and Plum. I won’t say a whole lot more due to spoilers, but let’s just say they too, had it rough :p

Random, though it’s probably late night weirdness as I try to head off to bed and get my last Evoland 2 thought out for the day

But for some reason I yet again take the stance that, at least from a purely design standpoint, I would believe that Plum and Cherry are Reno’s sisters, and by proxy, Menos’ other kids

Like just look at them next to Reno and Menos, they look like some sort of in between, like with the three of them you could reasonably construct what comes from Menos’ side of the family and what comes from their (hypothetical) mom

And I’m not gonna lie, I am intrigued by the narrative possibility of such a thing, with Cherry and Plum being presumably Reno’s older sisters, and again, by extension, Menos’ other children

But at the same time, how it is in canon, I don’t think I’d go with it. Considering that I can’t really make much of a canon plausibility for it unlike Matchos, with Menos never even referring to Plum and Cherry, which he would definitely do in this scenario if they were his kids

Also referring back to Matchos, I already like to headcanon Matchos, and by proxy his brother Lousos, as Menos’ maternal cousins. If I were to say Plum and Cherry are related to Reno in any way really, then that’s basically me making it so that all important/named Demons are related in some way, and that just makes the world feel so much smaller. Kind of sucks that there’s so few Demon characters when you lay it out like that, but oh well

Also it’d be really fucked up because you know full well that the pair die. So it’s not just that you killed one of Menos’ kids, you killed all three of them, and you don’t even have that sliver of hope that maybe Reno somehow survived the Weapon, we’re told the other two fully died

Though now I’m imagining this scenario in which post Laboratory, Menos is talking about the Demons he wonders survived, and he out of nowhere brings up that he in fact also has two daughters that the rest of the party hasn’t heard about (let’s just say it’s because as far as he knew when meeting the group, his daughters were fine in Demonia Castle, since he had only taken his youngest son to the peace treaty before everything went to crap, so they weren’t as pressing of a concern at the moment). And then he says that their names are Plum and Cherry, and it dawns on the rest of the party that they definitely killed these two, meanwhile Menos is none the wiser. It’s funny in my head, but it’d probably be more angsty than anything. Because you’re telling your friend that you unknowingly killed his other children

But in any case, I would kind of like this idea in an AU/rewrite scenario. I’d want to see where it goes

So I decided to start drawing this

It’s based on the ending thing you get for completing the game, though I’m specifically using my 100% screenshot as my reference

It’s not an exact recreation in the slightest, but I also know I fail when I try to recreate things 100%, so I’m fine with it. Might need to keep editing those rocks though

And I’m also realizing I need to tweak the water a little bit so that it and the sand mesh together better. I think I can pull it off

Also also, I know he’s supposed to be there, but I feel like taking out the Prophet (buff guy in the back fishing). To me it doesn’t make sense why he’s there, and not someone like Reno. I mean I get it logistically, since he never had a 3D model, and the Prophet was probably the only other notable character that has a 3D model. But this is my redraw, and I can do what I want

Hmm, maybe I could add Cherry and Plum somewhere in the background too

But yeah honestly, this is coming out a lot better than I had anticipated, I thought it’d look way worse. Especially the water and the palm trees

Though granted, now I have to draw the characters, which without a doubt will be what makes this go downhill, but at least it looked good at some point

And speaking of which, now I have to figure out what brushes I’m using for the characters and drawn items. Because truth be told, I don’t think my normal brushes will mesh with this background style, it’d make them look way more 2D and flat on what’s trying to be a 3 dimensional space. Also my brushes are probably too thick, and I really don’t feel like upscaling the whole thing, I’d have to redo all the background stuff

Not quite sure what I’m going to do for that yet, but we’ll see. Mayhaps brush experimentation may be involved

But yeah one more thing, I’m making this for the Evoland 2 anniversary, but that’s on August 25th, so not only do I have a month to complete this, but I won’t be showing you my finished product until then

Honestly I really hope I remember to finish it, because I’m liking it so far. And yeah, I just wanted to show this off

Also today I brought a pencil in addition to my pen to work, so now I have sketching capabilities, so my drawing is enhanced! Takes a lot longer though

Anyways, so I decided to draw some of the concept Demons from the Evoland 2 artbook today (after sketching a bit of Solus), and I just want to talk about them color wise. Which means my sketches are not that relevant to the topic. But I’ll still show you anyways for those interested. It isn’t much though

Anyways, so back on topic, looking at the concept Demons, they have a lot more range in colors between them

Like to show you what I mean, I’ll just show you all the concept art with full Demon characters (outside of Menos, since his designs really only boil down to hairstyle differences)

Like if I’m looking at this right, we have a WAY bigger range than the game ever led me to believe

Which does bring up the question of whether I should really even consider this in any way, since maybe these were just concepts before they settled on the small color range we got in the game. But also, the game barely has any Demons in the first place, so if I want range, there’s nothing stopping me from using concepts in the artbook. I don’t have enough evidence to say otherwise

But yeah, I noted this on the sketch paper, but let me describe the ranges of colors in Demons, at least according to these concepts (and if you consider these canon, at least option wise)

Skin tone:

Light pink to dark purple/blue. They can be anywhere in that range, whether in hue, saturation or brightness

Hair color:

Bluish green, like an emerald color, to a reddish orange. Yet again, can be anywhere within the hue range, and the colors seem to range from dark colors to light, as seen with the blues

Though in game, everyone except Arthus in his overworld sprite (and also Ceres) seems to follow the lighter color side of things. The one rule does seem to be that the color has to have an amount of vibrancy to it, outside of grey hair on Reno in that one concept

Like compared to the game, purple hair is the least of my worries

Though I will say, blue skin, at least in a tone like Ceres and Arthus, seems to not really be a thing, it’s mostly just a range of purples

I guess this isn’t that important, but it is at least a note for me that I don’t have to stick to purple skin, and then red blue or purple hair for my Demon character designs. I can go crazy with colors

Also one last thing to note, specifically with Plum and Cherry’s concepts, I notice that one design does in fact have the same hair design as a beta Ceres design, and at least two of the other designs have similar outfits to other Ceres betas. So maybe some of her designs did try to incorporate her Demon side more. But also, it makes me wonder if Reno and his group were supposed to have more connections to Ceres than they ended up having. Or it could just be a case of reusing design details. Either/or

*sigh* I tried to use a Cookie Run gacha maker thing to make it look all nice, but I just couldn’t get it to work, both on my iPad and my computer. But regardless, I thought I’d make this look as nice as I could

So some time ago, I decided I wanted to try and make the Evoland 2 characters in the Cookie Run style, and I wanted to start with my favorite character, Menos

This is him (also note, while this is from the art book, some of the information here is inaccurate, mostly the first paragraph. The second paragraph’s accurate though. I suspect there were some story changes after the artbook was finished)

I’m gonna be fully transparent with y’all, I did this so I could try and attract my Cookie Run audience and maybe get them interested like “oh hey these designs are neat, what game are they from?” and maybe then lure them into playing Evoland 2. Listen, it’s my favorite game, and there is like, no audience for it. There is BARELY any content for this game on here and I am DESPERATE. I need people to play it, it’s a good game, and I need people to talk to about this game, but I can’t because no one’s played it or heard of it, and the things about the game I want to talk about and discuss are things that are major spoilers for the game, so I can’t talk about them. It’s a rough existence

*ahem* sorry, I got carried away. I’ll shill more for the game later, but let me just explain this

I made him a porcelain berry, aka Amur peppervine, since they have bright blues and purples like him. I went with Peppervine since it sounded tougher than Porcelain Berry. Also peppers tend to be associated with fire in Cookie Run, and he does have sort of fire based powers. Well really it’s just a ground pound with fire at the end. It’s useful though

I think I’m gonna make all the Demons berries/fruits (I say fruits because there’s already Cherry and Plum), mostly since they’re the best substitute for their bright colors. Also Menos is a Demon. But they don’t like, come from the underworld or anything, they just exist in the world. Honestly they’re pretty chill people, way more than the humans

Porcelain berries:

I mainly used Capsaicin and Purple Yam as my references, given the similar body shapes and Capsaicin’s horns

I was also planning to make his eye outline black, with the main color being yellow and the slits black, since some people make the black outline black sclera, but it just didn’t look right, so I made it white instead and did all the other things

I had so much trouble with the chain around his neck, since he doesn’t have an official reference, and all official art I can find changes it slightly. It’s pretty annoying. I just ended up sticking with the one in the promo art

Menos looks weird without his nose and ears

Now let me just ramble about Menos

I love this dude so much. Like, he’s just an endearing character, and in my opinion, way better than Fina (green haired girl). Fina can be a bit of a brat sometimes and while yeah, I get that she’s the youngest and I think a teenager, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t get on my nerves. Anyways, Fina aside, Menos on the other hand is very polite. He always calls Fina “Miss Fina” and does the same with Velvet, and for Kuro, well I suppose first I need to give context. So you first meet Menos in this gladiatorial arena that we just stumble into while escaping prison (and that he’s being forced to participate in by the way), and because we don’t want to give ourselves away, we give ourselves a fake name out of the options presented to us. I personally always go with Mega Clink because of the Evoland 1 reference (the Evoland 1 protagonist is Clink). And see, Menos will always call you by that name you pick, no matter what. Other party members say our name, but he’s just adamant to call you that. I don’t know why he does it, but he does it with complete seriousness and I just find it funny.

But honestly, when I first played the game, I had an obsession with this guy. What first got me to pay attention to this guy is when you escape the arena and collect gravity, you fall into a pit and Menos laments the fact that he will now never see his son again. When he said that, I was like “you have a son? I will help you, I must reunite you two” and that’s where it began. Then we get to where we’re going and meet his son, but then [EVOLAND 2 SPOILERS] happens and I’m like “No! Menos no!” And after that point I was determined to reunite him with his family once again and save his people and just let him be happy because honestly? The demons, nor Menos, do not deserve what happens to them in the story. Like, Menos is not a bad guy by any means, his only flaw is that he can get irrational when it comes to the things he cares about, like saving his people, which honestly I can understand. He’s incredibly polite and understanding towards us when we meet, especially considering the fact that his people are in a war against humans and he was just captured by humans and forced to fight in their gladiatorial arena. And if he does get mad at Fina because of her beliefs about Demons (she’s grown up being told they’re the enemy), he’ll calm down and apologize for it. I mean I guess it makes sense, considering he’s the oldest of the group and by proxy probably the most mature, but still

There’s a point in the game where you get separated from Menos, and when I had been released from the story to go on whatever path (there were multiple paths to go) to continue, I immediately went “I’M COMING FOR YOU MENOS!” and veered straight to where I knew he was. He was my hyperfixation character

Anyways, sorry I’ve rambled, but I hope you at least like this art. And please check out Evoland 2. Please. It’s an RPG you can find on Steam, Switch, or PS4. You don’t need to play the first game to understand this one, they’re two completely separate games that just both use the motif of evolving game aesthetics, Evoland 2 using it for time travel. But even then, the first game’s like 2 hours long, 4 to 100% it. Evoland 2’s more around 17 hours to finish, 20 to 100%. I need people to talk to about this game please

Sorry it took a bit, but here’s Bubble Tea Cookie

I was trying to think of something that could fit both Carrow and Cherry Blossom, and I remembered, “hey, doesn’t Caramel Arrow like boba?” and I knew caramel was a flavor of boba, so I looked if cherry blossoms were in boba, and sure enough, there was Sakura milk tea. So, I decided to just make this one boba tea, though I chose Bubble Tea instead just to make it more vague

I think one idea I had was to name her after another flavor of boba, like taro, but considering I know nothing about boba, I though maybe I should just stick with being vague

I probably don’t need to, but boba/bubble tea (also I used the in game boba as a reference too):

So with her design, I knew one thing I wanted to do was put a pearl pattern on the bottom of her outfit, to make it look like boba. I tried to make her design sort of resemble boba tea, with the bottom being the boba and the top being the cap, if that makes sense. I added in the pink to represent the straw, and also to give some Cherry Blossom to her design, she’s kind of predominantly Carrow. I was thinking about giving her a Watcher outfit, but I decided against it so she doesn’t seem too much like Caramel Arrow. But I mean, I think she looks distinct enough from both of them. Also I gave her the gradient at the bottom since boba seems to usually look darker at the bottom, likely because of the pearls

So as for Bubble Tea Cookie herself, the main thing I really have is that she’s a bomber, because I had the idea of “what if she uses the tapioca pearls likes bombs?” since I know the pearls are chewable. I guess she gets it from her aunt Cherry, who she’s probably close with(also side note, the concept of Cherry being an aunt feels so odd since she’s a kid. Now I’m curious what an older Cherry Cookie would look like). I wasn’t really sure how to make the pearls into bombs, other than giving them little stems, but since tapioca pearls don’t have that, I feel like it looks a bit off

I don’t know if she’s a Watcher or not. I mean she’s probably a fighter in some regard, but I, not so sure she’s a soldier

What else can I say about her…well I imagine she’s probably like a connoisseur of boba, having extensive knowledge of all the flavors

Sorry I really don’t have much on her as a character. My mind’s been sidetracked with Evoland 2 thoughts. But I hope you like her regardless! (You know I’m really noticing how I always end my things with that)

Aight, so there’s this game, Evoland 2 (everyone should go play it, it’s a really good game) and I’m currently having a conundrum.

Okay, first let me give context. There’s this thing the game does where the names of things are 1 letter differences to something else

Examples include:

Smog = Smug

Mana = Maana

Super Mario = Super Morio

Vikings = Wikings

There are others, but those are the only ones I can think of right now. It’s so shameless I honestly I find it hilarious.

Anyways, another thing they do is have names be references to something else, usually with a theme going on, and sometimes they’ll mix it with the one letter difference

Nibiru Village = Nibiru, the Ancient One (Yugioh)* (Edit: apparently Nibiru is actually a reference to the Nibiru Cataclysm, some disaster people thought was going to happen in the early 21st century, according to Wikipedia)

Genova = Jenova (Final Fantasy 7)*

Ceres = Ceres, the Roman god of agriculture (there’s a good reason for it, but I won’t say here for spoilers)

Cherry & Plum = cherry plums

*I don’t know if this is their actual reference, but it’s the best I can find

Anyways, so then we come to a particular group of characters, and from what I can tell they all share a similar naming theme of mythical kings

First, we have King Arthus = King Arthur from Arthurian legend, king of the Round Table

Then, we have Menos, who after a while I realized = King Minos from Greek myth, who’s I believe the namesake and guardian of the Minotaur, if my cursory glances at Greek myth are to be believed 

Anyways, so here’s my problem: there’s a third member of this group and his name is Reno.

Only problem, I don’t know who he’s named after, and it’s really bugging me

Does anyone know any mythical kings one letter off from Reno? Please I need the answer
