I'm far from an expert when it comes to gyoza, but my favorite place to eat it is at Gyoza-ro in Shibuya's Harajuku district. The menu and the restaurant itself are both totally free of nonsense; you can get your dumplings either fried or steamed, and you can have them with or without garlic and leek. Aside from that there are only four side dishes on the food menu, and nothing costs more than ¥290 (just under $3 US) unless you want a beer or some sake. I ate at Gyoza-ro right before heading to the airport on my last day in Tokyo, and when I got to my departure gate some folks from a Japanese television program asked if they could interview me about my stay in Japan. The conversation almost immediately turned to food and what my favorite thing to eat while I was visiting had been. I'd had lots of delicious, interesting dishes during my trip, but I froze and then legitimately couldn't think of anything other than the gyoza I'd just had. The interviewer continued to ask me about that gyoza for about three quarters of the time we talked - how it tasted, my favorite thing about it, how it compared to gyoza in Seattle, etc. - so I became that American on Japanese television who talked almost exclusively about dumplings even though, as I said, I'm far from an expert when it comes to gyoza. 🇯🇵🎥✌️😀🎉 #japan #tokyo #shibuya #harajuku #food #travel #tourist #evotrip #evoexplores #arigatoforever #neversayyestoatelevisioninterview

There's been lots of travel by way of train on this trip. In fact, I'm typing this while riding one from Matsumoto to Tokyo (and finally posting this while sitting on another waiting to depart from Shinjuku Station). Aside from their convenience and efficiency, one thing I like about riding on trains is the range of views that they offer. Every time you look out the window, there's another new part of the landscape or a different building in the city to see.
