Dine on Medianoche Lobster Rolls and Surf N’ Turf Fritas at the Now Open Ella’s Oyster Bar

Take a look around this Calle Ocho seafood eatery

A Miami-inspired oyster bar, Ella’s Oyster, officially opens on Calle Ocho tonight at 1615 SW 8th Street. The brainchild of Jordan Marano, who serves as chef, and Christian Plotczyk, who oversees operations, the duo met some 20 years ago at China Grill, and have worked at places like Rosa Mexicano and Kimpton Hotels before joining forces to open the restaurant.

The Miami-meets-New-England menu features South Florida versions of oyster bar favorites like the Surf N’ Turf Frita Cubana made with lump crabmeat, chorizo, special sauce and papas; a Little Havana Clam Bake for Two, with mussels, lobster, clams, Peruvian potato, corn, and chorizo au jus; Fried Chicken and Pancakes; Crab Croquettas with Old Bay hollandaise; Lobster rolls housed in a medianoche roll and tossed tajin mayo and a variety of freshly shucked oysters served with Cuban crackers in lieu of saltines.

The space, which was completely built out by its owners, keeps with the New England with a hint of Miami theme featuring a hand-painted Kraken mural courtesy of the guys at EvlWorld, light-wash wood grain tables, a white painted exposed brick wall, massive photo of Miami, industrial hanging lights, blue and white decor and an open-air kitchen.

Ella’s Oyster Bar is now open for dinner from 5 to 11 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and Friday and Saturday until 1 a.m. with lunch and brunch service coming soon. Call 786-332-4436 for more information. Check out the images and the opening menu below.

Calle Ocho’s First Oyster Bar Set to Debut Next Month

Ella’s Oyster Bar will feature Surf N’ Turf Frita Cubanas and plenty of seafood in Little Havana

Little Havana’s culinary resurgence is well under way, with the latest addition — Ella’s Oyster Bar — set to debut in May at 1615 SW 8th Street.

Dubbed as a “Miami oyster bar” it’ll serve up your standard oyster bar fare like lobster rolls and west and east coast raw oysters and clams, along with items with more of a South Florida spin like the Calle Lobster Roll that is served on a medianoche roll; Clams with Galletas Cubanas and Mojo Mignonette; Crab Croquettas with Old Bay Hollandaise and a Surf N’ Turf Frita Cubana made with lump crabmeat, chorizo, special sauce and papas.

For those who aren’t too keen on seafood options like Fried Chicken and Pancakes made with Pasilla Oaxaca pancakes and Roasted Bone‑in Short Rib can also be found on the menu, along with an extensive list of beer and wine, as well as ceviches, salads and desserts.

Ella’s is the brainchild of partners Jordan Marano and Christian Plotczyk, whose paths first crossed twenty years ago while working with the China Grill Group and have since worked everywhere from Rosa Mexicano to Virgin Hotels. Marano is running the kitchen and the menu creation, while Plotczyk oversees operations of the restaurant.

As for the space, it keeps with the Miami-meets-the-northeast feel with a white painted brick exposed walls, a hand-­painted Kraken mural courtesy of EvlWorld, a wash wood grain bar, chalkboard paintings and industrial hanging lights.

When it does open its doors next month — no date has officially been set but we’re told early May — Ella’s Oyster Bar will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1a.m., Sundays to Thursdays from 11:30 a.m to 11 p.m.
