30 Days of Horror - Day 16 - Evil Dead 2 (1987)

I hadn’t seen this movie in years, possibly since high school, and I had forgotten how gross and wonderfully weird it was. It’s still beautiful in its cheesiness: the hilarious animated corpses, the bloated, rubbery monsters and literal buckets of blood. Sam Raimi’s trademarks are all visible here, too, from the high speed point-of-view shots to the slapstick physical humor. What surprised me the most is how “straight” Bruce Campbell played it in this one; in my memory, he camped it up much more, though I could be confusing it with Army of Darkness.
