I have been thinking on the nature of mdzs as a deliberately vague text that leaves many things up to interpretation, and how i've slowly come to understand "up for interpretation" less as "there is One True version of this story i must find" and not even as " Everyone has a different One True Version of this story inside their head be based on their interpretations and the differences don't make one wrong and the other right" but as "There is no One True Version. Even in my own subjective interpretation of the text multiple things can be true at once" specifically, in regard to Jin Guangyao and the many things which are left up in the air as to whether he did them or not, most notably killing his son.

There's evidence for this, but it's non conclusuve (jgy saying he killed him while also saying he killed Qin Su, who very much killed herself. The speculations on how he'd have killed him being sect leader yao just saying shit. ) it is, esentially, just up in the air enough that if you decisively fall on one side of the debate is probably says more about you and your general opinion of jgy than it does about the "true" events of canon.

I have, as a proud apologist, always fallen on the "he didn't kill him but felt in some way responsible for his death." Side but recently have become more okay with the interpretation that maybe he DID kill him, and that at the very least, that when he tells Qin Su their son "needed to die" he is being genuine. Which, once you look at it beyond. "Is jgy a poor lil meow meow who it is Okay to Like or an irredeemable baby murderer" becomes both INCREDIBLY tragic and deeply interesting. Because here is a man condemned for who his parents were and who wants nothing more than to live, saying that it is possible to be so cursed by your heritage that you need to die. There is no existence for you. The exact same thing that has been said to him.

Of course being born out of wedlock to a sex worker and being a product of incest are different things, but that begs the question: where is the line? What crimes of the father can mean death for the son? How cursed can you be until your existence is so incompatible with society it is you who needs to give? And if there is... where is it? Qin su clearly thought she was past it. Was his son really past it? Is he?

alright, but one of blamore's hobbies is sculpture-making and so he HAS made numerous smaller ones over the years, but the one he's making right now is this statue of artemis (whom is the greek goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, and wild animals which is EXACTLY why it chose to make a sculpture representing her) is something it aims to be a little bit shorter than himself — so i guess you could say it is sort of a big project?¿ yeah LMAO and if blamore isn't gardening, then it'll usually be working on it.

now, so far, he's only got the bust done all the way to the shoulders as of now + it's mixed media so it's made mostly of wood, BUT it's also got some other elements like wire and some random things that you might not normally think of mixing into a sculpture in it. though man's doesn't just show anyone his progress on it because he usually wants thing's to be 'done' before he does... and that is to say that, if it does happen to show this sculpture to you, then you are officially one of its friends (':

Moved on to j-hope's MAMA performance and my heart aches for 2022, nothing will ever top what Jack In The Box did for me. I don't think I'll ever get to experience a genuine thrill quite like that entire era from him.

Not that I think he peaked there just that it was just such a specific time and experience that I don't think anything will ever be like that again.

/ realized I forgot to put this in my bio and will add it later but

heads up that my Yuri is a combination of JP Yuri and dub Yuri, but primarily JP. there's a whole lot of nuance to Yuri that got left out of the dub (and seeing as he has waaay more content in JP due to the vast amount of crossovers/Tales crossovers/gachas he's in, it's a lot easier to keep Toriumi's take on him (and in depth understanding no less!) in mind). overall you get the same general person, but the dub left out a lot more his casual/playful side in vocal tone, preferring to go for the "edgy cool adult" concept despite, well, the JP version of him intentionally being quite opposite.

(on another note, context I use for Yuri involves nuances found in the drama CDs that are a condensed retelling of the game (before some original stuff) as well as his childhood novel which has voiced dialogue for his child and teen years. this post covers the game, but a lot of (especially internal) stuff for my muse may be heavily affected by his backstory too which is unfortunately completely absent in the actual game itself)

there's also a lot of back and forth between him and other characters that really lost their depth in the dub (ex. Yuri being much more gentle and soft with early game Karol when Karol was convinced nobody would believe him and that he was a failure, or his banter with Flynn being a lot more relaxed and significantly less annoyed with a better understanding of each other). I'll be retaining anything the dub yeeted out for whatever odd reason regarding his relationships.

(one particular grievance of mine is in the Flynn jailbreak scene, where Yuri is basically saying "you're just dying to abandon me" and Flynn starts off with "that's right" before basically saying the same thing - i.e. they both know it's not true and Flynn is going along with it because That's Them, to which Yuri responds with a solid and fully accepting "yeah" (no hesitation, no concern over it, as he prioritizes Flynn's life over his own).

another extremely strong grievance I have is the port scene - oops also with Flynn - where he's basically holding back tears asking for answers in desperation, which was extremely if not outright completely lost in the dub where he only sounds angry and not just utterly hurt. dub Yuri? I could believe he might kill Flynn if it came to that. JP Yuri? forget it, he would hold back at the last second and couldn't go through with it. that's genuinely the level of difference that was present between both audios.

that said, I love Troy Baker's performance itself - I just think he was unfortunately deeply incorrectly directed for several of his major scenes, and also unfortunately, some of those cases were involving some of his most important relationships)

if any of y'all play Vespy any time soon, I fully recommend giving it a shot with its original context at least once (if you're playing the DE version there's an option for JP audio)! even if you don't understand JP, at the very least the tone won't be lost on you! from what I've heard apparently there wasn't much communication between the directors on both sides, so a lot of Yuri got lost in the localization (and Karol's screaming is glorious in JP lbh).

tl;dr Yuri really is just a silly little guy and he's really not that cool or serious. he's a dork. he's a dummy. and he's easily embarrassed about it. get deep enough into his feelings for Flynn when they're not in a life or death situation and he'll completely cave in embarrassment.

how did kuvira become the great uniter?

The Great Uniter—a title that was once revered by many, now feared by many; it was a title that wasn’t given to her by the world leaders to add some flair nor was it something she decided to call herself from the very moment she stepped out of Zaofu. Kuvira’s reasoning for leaving Zaofu wasn’t for power, but she had the power to do something while knowing choosing not to do anything would make you just as bad the Earth Queen and the Red Lotus who were major factor points in all the chaos that was running rampant throughout the Earth Kingdom. She could no longer sit by and watch things literally go up in flames, choosing to save those who don’t have the power to save themselves and it is selfish to look the other way.

It is why she left Zaofu, along with a handful of people who shared similar views. She no longer cares what Suyin thinks because she’s someone with the power and status to do away the damage, someone who always talked big about how much she hate the monarchy but never once did anything. The respect she had for Suyin was no more.

After Kuvira stabilized Ba Sing Se, where driving out remaining agents of the Red Lotus and stabilizing the capital took months, her next plan of action was to travel to another place that may need her help before she was eventually approached by the world leaders who had heard what she had down, offering her the position Suyin refused to take. Kuvira accepted of course, with all the newly found resources in her hands, she can do so much more to help all those that are in need. Though, she has also been tasked to unite the Earth Kingdom with a project that became known as the unification campaign; that plan has never been part of her cause, but it was a task she accepted as well since the Earth Kingdom have always been divided and perhaps what her nation always needed was to be united as one. Perhaps, then and there, they can finally take the first step to a brighter future.

Words of her actions quickly spread where she, at first, became known as “the woman with the piercing eyes and fearsome eyebrows.” by many who crossed her way but not many were convinced at first, after all, she was an experience young woman who never saw real battle; not to mention she was Suyin’s protégé who lived most of her life in Zaofu, safe under the metal domes while the rest of the Earth Kingdom suffers every day and living in the fear of roaming bandits. Kuvira held her head up high every time she hears those words, despite the fact that she lived her earlier years in poverty and in a village that no longer exists.

The people’s views of her changed when she moved down to Omashu, joining forces with others and leading them all to takedown a tyrannical king that’d become paranoid over the years where he started to lock his own people up who spoke out against him or putting them to death without a trial. Once the king has been permanently removed and liberating Omashu, Kuvira earned the people’s respect and the city-state became one of her biggest backers.

By the end of the first year of the unification campaign, Kuvira’s deeds continued to spread and all those who doubted her began following her behind once her success continued to grow. She earned the people’s respect and loyalties where many proudly waved her banner and sang her name in songs which is where the title “The Great Uniter” came to be. And it was a name she held with great pride for it was - is - one of the greatest gift she had ever received.

((I need to outline this properly on my main page but please note that private and request only muses are completely different beasts in regards to this blog.

Private muses, while also request only, are generally very extreme, very triggering characters and I won't write them with someone who doesn't understand that, how I write them and handle the topics surrounding them, etc. Extensive ooc communication is necessary before interacting can happen.

Request only muses are more like the general muses on offer but my muse for them is finicky/particular, I might have a hard line or two concerning the source material, etc. Ultimately it's much easier to interact with the request only muses compared to the private ones.))

I keep thinking about a Miyako that's finally found her way out of the loop.

A Miyako that finally burned and buries all those who've wronged her. A Miyako that had to sacrifice the last few ties that helped her rebel and push to make and be something of herself in order to break said loop. A Miyako who's constantly fighting on finding those ties and feeling whole again or dreading something more wicked would be just around the corner if she tries, and it would drag them with her. A Miyako who's finally gaining her first breath of freedom, and she's at a complete loss on where or what to do.

A Miyako who's now surrounded by sights unknown to her, with people all over, with senses overwhelmed by how different it all is. A Miyako who's surrounded by such, still managing to feel just as alone in this mass than the small shut-in room back at the village.

A Miyako that spent so much energy and focus on her goal that, now that she's reached it, doesn't know how to spend such freedom. It's much less bright than she imagined, much less joyful, with no one but Kereb by her side.
