The minor princess currently touching Anakin's forearm has spent all night toeing the line between friendly and polite politician who feels understandably starstruck around two retired war generals on her tiny inconsequential planet and wants to ensure they enjoy the dance held in their honor and too friendly entitled princess who needs to back off, seeing as Anakin is a very happily taken man whose beloved is standing literally right next to him.

It's giving Anakin a headache, trying to discern her motive and trying to figure out a way to make it quite clear he has no interest in any sort of recreational pastime with her in any sort of unofficial capacity without causing some sort of galactic incident.

He'd promised his master and the Council: no more Galactic Incidents, at least until the next calendar year.

It doesn't help matters that Obi-Wan, who should be the most upset if this minor princess is really trying to lure Anakin into a dark corner for nefarious reasons, is doing nothing to aid him in this trying time. Even though they've made it quite clear to each other over the past six months that they're in an exclusive, loving, committed relationship that has no room whatsoever for princesses of any kind.

Maybe that's the problem, Anakin thinks morosely as the princess flags down a passing waiter and lifts two flutes of wine from his tray. Maybe Anakin's made Obi-Wan too secure in his love, and now he thinks all he has to do in these situations is stand there with his arms at his sides, smirking slightly and looking gorgeous.

"Anakin?" the princess prompts, offering the drink. Automatically, and for no reason Anakin can think of except for long forgotten instinct, he glances at Obi-Wan first, as if asking for permission from his father. As if he's not twenty-four years old, a war general, a Jedi Master, etcetera.

When Obi-Wan just inclines his head with glittering eyes and that damned smirk only partially hidden behind his own raised glass of wine, Anakin almost accepts the princess's offer. Because she's definitely offering much more than just a drink. Maybe she even dosed that drink with--with something. Something to make him more agreeable or pliable or--Anakin doesn't know. But something serious enough to wipe that smirk from the corner of Obi-Wan's stupidly kissable lips, that's for sure.

But then he looks back at the princess and categorizes instantly in his mind all the ways she is not his beloved, and he decides that despite Obi-Wan's general ability to be an ass, the last thing he wants to do is take the drink. Or, truly, remain in this conversation.

"Oh, no thank you," he tells her politely.

He remembers a second later when her eyebrows fly up her forehead and her mouth pinches into a tight, aristocratic line, that on this planet it is considered incredibly rude to reject a gift of any sort.

And he'd promised No Galactic Incidents.

"I'm pregnant," he adds. "So I cannot. Partake. Though it looks good. I mean, beautiful. I mean. I'm pregnant. Yes."

The princess's eyebrows fly higher. Beside him, Obi-Wan coughs rather violently. Due to swallowing his drink wrong or to hide a burst of laughter, Anakin doesn't know.

"Oh," the princess says. "I...was under the impression that humanoid males cannot carry offspring."

Anakin clears his throat and crosses his arms behind his back. He wonders if it'll be a more believable fiction should he place his hands over his abdomen, then he thinks about anyone seeing that ever and decides he'd rather lose his other flesh one to a lightsaber all over again.

"I'm from a desert planet in the Outer Rim, your highness," he tells her. " Tatooine, if you have heard of it. Many species there have evolved special biological traits over time to ensure survival. This is one of them. You understand, of course."

He isn't even sure the words he's saying make any sort of sense at all, and Obi-Wan has gone from being absolutely no help to being an incredible hinderance instead, standing completely silent next to him and Force signature blocked from their bond.

"Oh," the princess blinks and then blinks again. "I apologize, of course. I did not realize."

"You could not have," Anakin assures her, kindly in his opinion, and she makes herself scare only a handful of minutes later. Apparently as much as she'd appreciate bedding a war hero, she draws the line at bedding one with child.

This realization is enough to make Anakin wonder if perhaps he should pocket the excuse for the next time he's at one of these affairs and fighting for his life. After all, his lover has proven himself to be incredibly useless.

Speaking of which:

"Hope you enjoyed that," he mutters to Obi-Wan as he turns his back on the ballroom to glare more fully at his master. "Thanks so much for your support."

Obi-Wan blinks guilelessly at him, lifting his drink to take another sip. Purposeful now, probably. To show off that he can drink to soothe his nerves while Anakin won't be able to touch the stuff for the rest of the night.

"Please, have patience with me, Anakin love," Obi-Wan says. "I've just found out that I am to be a father. I'm in shock."

Anakin tightens his hold on his wrists behind his back. It's either that or shove his most beloved into the buffet table.

❤️❤️❤️ ngl every time i hear this i have a fleeting moment of fear like "oh god i hope it was rewired in a good way" LMAO but genuinely thank you!!! i'm so glad that it connected with you in a way that left a significant impact. i really had some things to say with that fic haha, beyond just 'canon obi-wan with just one screw loose (anakin) would make a fantastic sith and obikin has the capacity to be very hot' hahaha

writing it was cathartic in the sense that i tried to share the things i learned by fucking up a lot in my 20s. all of the smut was a sugar-medicine situation where it's a dramatization of anakin's irresponsible and immature surrender of his own agency, obi-wan's spiraling into manipulation, tripping over the line between was is and is not emotional abuse, experiencing the pull of addiction, things like that.

in life i've found it's so easy to become a nightmare version of yourself, and not even care how much you've changed. it's so easy to hurt the people you love, even as you are trying to care for them. submission can be an abnegation of your duty to yourself and the world to stand on your own feet, a coping mechanism with someone you trust in a world you can't control. dominance carries responsibility not to abuse that trust, not to harm, etc.

if the story really got deep in the psyche and tugged on some loose threads, i did my job. it's fanfic yes but also using characters we love so much and have loved so long gives access to some very powerful conceptual levers in the subconscious. an author can do a lot of heavy lifting with those levers haha thank you for giving me and my story the attention you did so that it could move you, you know? i wish you all the best!!!

“Anakin stared at him dead in the eye, the room eerily silent save for the sound of his phone that kept on going as Satine continued to look for him. The clock in the nightstand showed it was past midnight, and the sweat of his back kept pooling beneath him.

“What is a wife to what you and I have?” Anakin asked, a dangerous crazy wide eye look in his eye as he smiled at Obi-Wan. “What is a stupid piece of paper that can be burned in the blink of an eye to the other half of your soul?”

I’ve been obsessed with the idea of a student/teacher au (original i know) but the idea i have in my mind is more… morally questionable, focused on anakin’s insanity and his possessiveness of obi-wan (who would be married to satine and cheat on her) and obi-wans own dilemmas (moral and ethical) about that.

i know is thee most used trope for them in aus (and i love every version of it i’ve read) but if i ever wrote it i’d like to focus a lot on the morally grey questionable area of their relationship, how they both destroy their lives and their futures (more obi-wan than anakin) for the passion and love they feel for one another.

married obikin professors AU, where one of them overshares everything to the students. every day he goes "you won't believe this terrible joke my husband told yesterday!" "sorry i'm late! my husband had an emergency and i had to help" and "gooood morning! how did you know my husband knitted this sweater vest for me? *twirl twirl* 🥰" but then the other one is reticent and serious, and never mentions anything about his personal life at all. the students think he's a sad lonely man with no one in his life.

and of course the first one is obi-wan and the second one is anakin. obi-wan is the charismatic philosophy professor who is so proud of his husband for being a top researcher in aerospace engineering at a young age, and he will NOT shut up about him. meanwhile anakin is a nerd who works too much in his lab with a droid, and he never says anything about himself because he's just a anxious mess when he's in front of a classroom. he got into engineering to work on SPACESHIPS not babysit damn it but the job makes him do it.

the students find them canoodling in the hallway and think if professor kenobi is gonna cheat on his sweet angel of a husband, it should at least be with someone better than this socially awkward nerd.

Obikin is having their happy ever after post return of the jedi and nothing will change that -

Give me obi-wan who is still afraid that at any moment anakin's blue eyes might turn yellow again. Who is terrified that if he turns around, anakin won't be by his side just as he was gone for so many painful years. Who still has nightmares of mustafar. Who is surprised to find anakin holding him tight after waking up because for so many years there was nobody else in the cave he could even touch, just him and deafening silence.

And Anakin notices it all - the small changes in obi-wan's behaviour, the way his smile fades whenever someone mentions tatooine, the way he instinctually tenses and fear shows in his eyes whenever anakin gets angrier than usual, as if he expected anakin to lash out and start choking everyone around in a fit of fury like vader did. He sees it all and it breaks him, ofc makes him very, very guilty and puts lots of tension on his relationship with obiwan - because how is it possible that obi-wan forgave him after everything he'd done? How must be lying when he says that he still loves anakin because how could he not hate him if anakin ruined his life?

Fluff and happy endings are great, but Obi-Wan has lived for TWENTY YEARS in complete loneliness, traumatised and haunted by guilt. Those years simply CAN'T be erased in the moment anakin steps back into his life - trauma takes time to heal from, it won't just disappear overnight.

Anakin and obiwan need to LEARN how to trust and love each other again.

The potential for hurt/comfort is so HUGE here

hello, yes I can do this! honestly, it’s a new years resolution of mine to write a few fic lists because I haven’t had a lot of time to read fic these past few months, but I miss it (and I honestly think not reading fic has been a huge contributing factor to my writer’s block) and I want to make fic recs a thing again for me

(a sort of related fic resolution of mine this year is to comment more on fics i read, which is why i have about 53 tabs open on my phone and yet am still bad at leaving comments - these things happen in baby steps)

this won’t be long list because I have an early start tomorrow and not a lot of new fics to rec (like I said, I have not been reading enough lately), but here are the most recent obikin fics in my ao3 History tab

let's turn up the heat until we fry by @grapenehifics (explicit, modern au)- what an amazing fic this was! i read it sometime in january and my god it made me crave summer almost as much as it made me crave tattooed anakin, a plot device people are not making enough use out of for how great (and hot) tattooed anakin is. especially when he's a dad. especially when he's still a dork. a 4.5 out of 10 on the buffoon scale (complimentary) have i mentioned obi-wan's slutty earring??

lost canines by @bunnywan (explicit, canon) - no one does men crying like bunnywan does men crying. also spit. and teeth. but also such a fascinating character study into what flavor of emotinal wreck both of them would be if the jedi won the war and then anakin left the order to be with his wife. amazing on all levels for this. fictional smut between two fictional men never feels as real and possible as it does when this writer is writing it

running through my head by @darthwillies (mature, canon, sort of crack premise based on an anime but incredibly poignantly heavy fic) - man, i had to search deep into my history for this fic because i was obsessed with finding and reading the final scene of chapter 2 again (specifically - no context for spoilers - obi-wan saying "that is the cruellest thing anyone has ever said to me") because oh man that bit of bare and painful honesty and all the bare and painful honesty following? scratches my brain the best way. this fic was just so incredible for many different reasons. i loved the world building and the ensemble in the background - it felt very much like something that could happen if every character made slightly different choices. both anakin and obi-wan's characterizations read spot on and painfully beautiful. no one is to blame for everything, but this is where we've landed and everyone's healing and communicating (which is my favorite sort of whump/comfort fic) this fic is heavy but the author does a very good job of inserting tags into the author's notes of each chapter so read those. but read the fic as well.

i will tell the night by @riduurburton (explicit, set in the gffa, same ageish, enemies to friends to lovers) - it took me three days to read through this and i was just blown away each time i clicked to the next chapter. would have read through it faster if i hadn't started around christmas time. an instant fandom classic in my mind if those are still things. as i was reading it, i was constantly reminded why i love star wars fanfictions and this ship - it read like a love letter to the characters and the universe, though things are necessarily changed by the premise. i just know if this wasn't published all at once, i would have faithfully followed each update. it's everything i wanted in same-ish age fic, where anakin is newly knighted and obi-wan is a senior padawan. the ensemble characters carry so much of the story, and i love the pov switches - it does so much to make the fic feel like a whole world. perhaps not something to read on your lunch break, but absolutely absolutely something you must read!!

(no) fixing it by skyl_tales (mature, canon au) - will this author's works never not have a strangle hold on me? i'm honestly unsure. something about their writing is just incredibly readable every single time. this fic has gotten two more updates than i expected and may get another (who knows?? anything is possible) but reads like a complete story as is. asks the all important question: what if obi-wan was given the choice to go back to make sure that the worst thing in his life didn't happen and he accidentally/truthfully goes back to mustafar and not a few days before? also, as a follow up question, what if sucking on obi-wan kenobi's tits kept anakin from the influence of the dark side? it's worth a shot!

relative matters by anonymous (explicit, modern au, half brothers so actual incest instead of just the canon vibes incest going on generally) - man, i read this during those two weeks of the year where your brain is rotating the folger's coffee commercial around on repeat (you know the feeling) and it managed to scratch the itch perfectly. dirty, dysfunctional, snotty nosed teenagers obi-wan and anakin are stupid and messed up and 'just imagine that i'm your girlfriend' as youre having sex with your half brother....i come back to that vibe sm. need more of it.

in the eye of the beholder by booksnchocolate (explicit, canon, trans!obi-wan) - oh my god! i just read this tonight and loved it so much. another fic where i was just viscerally reminded why i love this ship while i was reading it. anakin's pov of obi-wan is just so soft and interwoven with so much love that it almost feels wrong calling the sex hot because it feels almost too intimate for that. and the author makes it incredibly clear how much obi-wan loves anakin, all without changing pov or having any very long or drawn out confession scene. it's just there, throughout the fic as they interact. and the banter they share, the cameos by ahsoka and rex and the council, all of it together makes this such a great fic. 10/10 would read again instead of writing my policy brief due tomorrow

by omission by posthumous_vigor (explicit, reverse master/padawan, set in the gffa) - i think i reread this for the billionth time sometime in december, but i can't remember. anyway. many heart eyes. love as always. sometimes you just need drunk sex with your master who can read your every thought because you've accidentally dropped the shields around your mental link. also you're wearing fishnets. and you're very drunk. and jealous because your master refused to fake marry you for a mission even though you totally want to be real-married instead. god. it's just hot idk i love this fic and the way this author writes these characters, in all their iterations i've seen from them so far!

On My To Read ASAP List:

heartlines by @lilredghost (explicit, canon au, heavy topics) - as soon as i have fic reading time this weekend that i actually plan out, i'm going to read this fic. i saw the writing process for it in the big bang server and i know it's going to be an actual gem and do my head in so much. there's hardly anything i love more than a twisty curvy timeline plus an unreliable narrator plus coma patient obi-wan waking up and having emotions about anakin having lived life without obi-wan on the peripherals of it etc etc. i'm sat. i can't wait.

the way our horizons meet by @soldieronbarnes (mature, set in the gffa, mail order bride anakin, a/b/o dynamics) - i mean?? mail order bride anakin?? reluctant and perhaps even guilt-ridden obi-wan who has infinite sadness?? this is one of those fics i know i'm going to absolute devour as soon as i start the first paragraph. i cannot wait for dilf obi-wan who looks like obi-wan from the kenobi show caving to his new spouse's wiles or insistent demands or something of that nature. can't decide what i'll love more, but will love it regardless

do the same for him by @thegingerwrites (mature, canon au) - oh geez, this is also one of those fics where i know i will be consumed with the need to keep reading until it's finished as soon as i start it. i love this author's writing style from their previous fics (which you should absolutely check out!) and the summary of this one is promising so many good things. i love a good obi-wan goes after anakin fic <3 it's what they both deserve and this one features sith holocron as well!! it's been a while since i read anakin whump and i am very excited to return to my well-beaten path of adoring some anakin whump <3

blur by @darthwillies (explicit, canon au, a/b/o dynamics....or? a dynamics?) - this fic!! what a fic!! it is such an amazing take on like...being on the outside of this very common trope we see all the time and seeing it for the horrors that are embedded in it that we sort of take for granted or filter out because both characters meet each other in the middle of these actions, but in this fic, anakin presents as an alpha and everyone else is just human Jedi around him and no one has any idea what's going on and anakin is a mess of emotions, not least of which are anger and fear, and obi-wan would do anything to make sure he's safe. he's doing a very good job so far imo i can't wait to see where this goes, but i am loving everything that i have been gifted with so far. this author's mind 🤯 unparalleled

close the blinds and kill the birds by @riduurburton (explicit, modern au, same age, mind the tags - dark elements in play) - i am so so fascinated so far with this story, holy hell. what a modern au!! everyone's sorta fucked up and fucking each other up a little further. the intricacies of the relationship growing between obi-wan and anakin and their shifting understandings of each other, even while overshadowed by terrible circumstances in their lives...immaculate. i cannot wait to see what happens next and where this and the characters go. i imagine it'll be pretty dark before (/if) it gets better, but i am already obsessed with following along on that journey

water's turning red by @bunnywan (explicit, modern au, infidelity) - obsessed with this fic sm that whenever i think about it i almost forget that it's a wip. to me it is nine chapters of different ways rich obi-wan is a bitch, connected under him having hired anakin to be his poolboy so he can get a good dicking when his husband is away. their relationship (anakin and obi-wan's, but also i guess obi-wan and cody's) is fascinating. delectable. i would easily read sixty thousand more words of obi-wan stringing anakin along for his dick and not realizing at the same time how much he's come to care about him as a person attached to that dick, etc etc. no notes, no thoughts, just the very, very accurate tag: 'obi-wan is a bitch and i like him so much'

(and finally,,,,sneaking in a black sails, silverflint fic i read in january after i got homesick because omg this reminded me so much of home but make it horror. the writing is so good. half of what haunts me about it is the sentence structure and word choice. the other half is the frankly creepy appalachian mountain range depicted in it but we don't get to pick our homes nor our ghosts)

wip wednesday/ obikin drabble

Anakin held the flimsy Quinlan Vos handed him, a picture of him and Obi-Wan and two other little girls as younglings. His Master was almost completely covered by a white bed sheet, which was being held up by the two girls. 

“Oh, must we?” Obi-Wan sighed when he saw the picture Anakin was holding. 

“Your little Padawan is a knight now, I’m just honouring the time honoured tradition of finally sharing some embarrassing stories from your youth, now that you two are stepping onto more equal ground.” Quin said as he smirked at Obi-Wan, “You’ve wiped snot from the boy’s nose Obi-Wan, he deserves to know some of his Master’s embarrassing stories. Force knows you held nothing back when Alyaa became a knight.”

Obi-Wan sat down next to Anakin on the sofa, gesturing at Quin in a resigned manner, as he put down three glasses of whiskey on the table. 

He and Obi-Wan had shared a drink on his sixteenth name day, when he became of age according to Tatooine law, though Obi-Wan swore him to secrecy about that. They shared their second drink on Anakin’s eighteenth name day, when he became an adult in Coruscant. Meaning that this was not their first drink together, but it felt significant all the same. This was the first time Obi-Wan had brought him a drink so casually, as if he was just another adult in the room, and not his very young apprentice.

“What’s with the white sheet,” Anakin asked, “were you a ghost?” 

He was still holding the photograph and smiling down at little Obi-Wan. This was the first time he had seen a flimsi of his Master as a child. Due to the strict Jedi practises Obi-Wan had been raised in, it was possible that this picture was one of very few in existence, if not the only one. 

“No, it was something a little more… forbidden,” Quin drawled, “you know how young children get, anything forbidden becomes alluring. Marriage was so forbidden, that it made it all the more intriguing for us."

"Not that we fully understood it, of course. But we had gathered enough information to know that weddings were the most central part of them. We would take turns marrying each other. We’d often officiate multiple marriages during playtime. Other times,” Quinlan said, pointing at the flimsi in Anakin’s hand “we’d make a whole day of it, stealing snacks for a wedding feast, unveiling the bride, everything we thought a wedding should have.”

Quin and Obi-Wan smiled at each other fondly, lost in shared memories for a moment.

“And who did you have as a bride Master?” Anakin teased, enjoying the huff Obi-Wan let out now that they were two against one. Anakin had always liked Quinlan, and never quite understood how he and his master were such close friends. Anakin loved his Master, but he could be such a stick in the mud. 

“Oh your master was never a groom,” Quin said, looking delighted to be sharing this piece of information with Anakin. “You see, the way the game worked, was that whoever you caught had to be your bride. And your master never chased.”

“Oh, do be quiet Quin,” Obi-Wan said, starting to turn a bit pink. “there is no way Anakin is interested in hearing about our childish games.”

“Your master was one of the most coveted brides,” Quin continued, ignoring Obi-Wan’s attempts at redirecting the conversation, “but he made you work for it, you had to chase him down and earn it before he yielded. But he always let me win in the end.” 

Anakin frowned, the easy smile leaving his face. He didn’t care if it was irrational, that he hadn’t been born when Obi-Wan and Quin were playing these games. He hated the idea all the same. 

His Master rolled his eyes in irritation, but he looked fond rather than truly irritated. 

Quin fired a smirk and a wink Anakin’s way, as if he knew how this information would affect him. But Anakin doubted that. Quin probably thought he’d find the idea of his stuffy Master as a little bride hilarious. 

Instead, Anakin felt warm in his heavy robes, watching his Master turn slightly pink in embarrassment, and knowing that at one time, before he had been taught to suppress it, his Master had yearned to be chased. Had wanted someone stronger than him to best him so that he could allow himself to submit. Desires like those rarely went away as you aged. In Anakin’s experience, they only became stronger and more consuming. 

Obi-Wan’s voice brought him back to the present, as he snarked back at Quin, “You were two years older than me, of course you always won. And don’t forget that Siri caught me just as often.”

“How many times do you suppose that I won your hand in marriage, my fair Kenobi?” Quin asked, grabbing Obi-Wan when he was reaching for his drink, and placing a playful kiss on the back of his hand.

Suddenly, Anakin’s hackles rose. It was one thing to share childhood memories with Obi-Wan. But it was a whole other thing to lay this type of claim to his Master in the here and now. And in front of Anakin. 

Obi-Wan had been his mentor and father, and now that he wasn’t, he was to be Anakin’s brother and best friend. He didn’t belong to Quinlan Vos.

“Fat lot of good having you as a groom did me,” Obi-Wan huffed, pulling his hand free, “I don’t recall you providing much.”

“Oh, I think you will find that I provided you with something fat and good a few years later, wouldn’t you say, little bride.” 

“Quin!” Obi-Wan exclaimed in a scandalised tone, a hand shooting out protectively towards Anakin, as if to shield him from Quinlan’s words. 

“Oh, lighten up Obi! Anakin is old enough not to faint at the idea of his Master’s past.”

Anakin felt ready to get up and make sure Quin never lived to lay a hand on his Master again, actually.

Obi-Wan had always allowed Anakin to manhandle him, letting him grab his robes and pull him this way or that, when he got excited and wanted to show his master something. He had continued granting those liberties to Anakin even as he grew, letting him push and pull him around when he got impatient, as long as they weren’t being observed by other Jedi. 

This worked in Anakin’s favour now, as he had herded Obi-Wan all the way to Quin’s door before the other man put up any resistance. 

“Good night Vos,” Anakin grunted.

I'm not an expert, so this is from my experiences:

Btw Anon, I hope you don't expect Anakin and Obi-Wan to start exploring each other's bodies in any of these stories lol (I mean there's that one scene in Kenobi show, but that falls under torture) When I draw them, about 20% are canon compliant, 20% me being delusional, and 60% is just me being stupid gay for Obi-Wan. Regardless I hope you enjoy your Star Wars Obikin journey 🎉✨

Obi-Wan was a lot more tactile with Anakin when he was younger, before Anakin entered his I-am-an-adult-now phase. Gentle chucks on the chin, a hand run over hair, squeezed shoulders, a hand on the nape, being tucked against his side — there was a lot of hand-focused gestures going on.

In the happy timeline where nothing bad happens and they get together, Obi-Wan starts touching Anakin more often again, though the gestures a slightly different. Now fingers run through curls, knuckles are run down cheeks, chins are playfully (or playfully... 👀) grabbed, fingertips caress lips and cheeks are cupped.

TL;DR: Please consider Obi-Wan's beautiful, beautiful hands and how lovingly they touch Anakin's face/head. 😍
