the unwanted guest did things to my brain about them. palamedes briefly talks aloud to dulcinea in the same 'you' form when he's confronting cytherea as he does throughout tug. so he does that when he's about to die, both times. one of the last things he does both times is to turn to talk to her, even when he'd have no reason to think she could hear him the first time around and doesn't understand how she could be there the second time. well. she was tired of roses and horny for revenge and he necromantically DIYed himself into a bomb precisely to get some revenge on the person who killed her and I hope she knows that. is all.

*if we're keeping to only the people directly involved here we've got at least dulcie (twice!), palamedes (as of yet only one but about to go for seconds with cam), harrow and through her gideon

In another podcast episode, he talked to Eclipse about how he was trying to "die faster". Aka suicidal. Which yk. Nawt gooaurd.

I like the way you think about him calling Solar Eclipse because of that reasoning. That is good and a gut punch. Ourgh

And also me friends were wondering why Solar and Nexus were so hostile to each other- but it does make sense to me after thinking about it. To Solar, that's not his Moon, his Moon is no longer there, and to Nexus, that's not his Solar, his Solar is alive with the family. They are not each other's best friends, they are strangers wearing their best friends names and/or skin.

AAAND lastly Nexus being so aggro towards Sun and all the unanswered questions- I think this is just more of Nexus being broody, emo, and petty lmao. If he really wanted Sun dead the most, he had MULTIPLE TIMES TO KILL HIM when he was alive. If he really hated everyone and never saw anyone as family, he would not have felt bad for what he did to Earth, and he would have never tried to have gotten Solar back in the first place.

Nexus is (shOcKiNGlY) a lying liar who lies, and he's also all bark and no bite. Because he talks a mean game, but then 90% of his actions fall/fell short. He is like a pancake that was left out for too long and is now all cold and soggy. It smells bad and might look bad too but bro it's just a pancake

🪱🧵 i am biting my nails the closer we get to the end of the manga. chapter 428 was fun—bakugou and todoroki hiding behind iida as iida gently berates their newfound fangirls was so cute, lmao. also the revelation that edgeshot is slowly… regenerating? is….. interesting. i’m disappointed that hori didn’t kill him for a couple of reasons: the first one is my most selfish, and it’s bc i planned on edgeshot being dead for my halloween fic lmfao, now i gotta rework that whole angle. 💀😪 but the second reason is more pressing and that’s bc hori is a COWARD who NEVER kills off ANYONE that has INTERESTING CONSEQUENCES. and also bc he only likes killing off girls 💀 (we’ll circle back to this point). idk, i mean, for as much as i act like the grim reaper and whinge about mha not being depressing enough (lmao), the story that hori’s been writing has always been like, pretty easy to understand. hope connection blah blah blah (i say that lovingly).

for all my whinging i do like bnha lmao. i whinge because i like it, and tbh i probably wouldn’t change a thing of it. 🥺 all the frustrating gaps—like those perceived consequences i keep getting worked up over the lack of—are what makes it fun to write and read fic for. 🥹 and it’s been fun watching the characters change!!! i was in a bookstore, yesterday, picking up a copy of volume 38 and the girl at the counter and i started talking about the series—the pros and cons of binging it vs keeping up weekly, the change in bakugou’s character and how reading over fics with him and his older characterisation can be kinda hard, now. how scary it was that it’s coming to an end!!! she and i have talked before—when i was buying volume 36 lmao—about whether bakugou could be canonically read as queer vs asexual, and like, idk any other series that has such a mainstream reach that you could have these outside conversations with other people in your day to day, outside of a twitter or tumblr sphere! that’s the power of my hero. and im glad to be here for the ride. and no matter how it ends, it’ll be fun, and worth it. 🥹

Ok so im a little tipsy right now but i had a thought about a sorta apprentices swap au, where Zep, Adam, Art, and Eleanor are apprentices instead of the canon ones. But im mostly gonna focus on Zep and Adam since they’re my favorites, so uh buckle up because im probably about to write a whole essay

So basically my idea was that Zep had shot and killed Lawrence before Adam could stop him, and once he did shoot Larry, Adam stops playing dead and he freaks out. Upon finding out Adam is alive, Zep decides to try and help him out of his shackle to save him(since he had already killed Larry, who was his main target, there wasn’t really a reason to leave Adam to die in there)

So as Zep is trying to help Adam, John would get up and reveal that he wasn’t dead or anything. And i think John would convince Zep to be his apprentice probably by giving him the redemption speech and telling him that he wouldn’t just be a “glorified janitor” anymore(also maybe he would change his mind and be like ‘actually you dont get the antidote for that poison unless you become my apprentice’ though that is a bit dirty lol) And he would probably tell Adam that if he became his apprentice too, he would help him with his injuries and let him out of his shackle so he wouldn’t rot in there(i guess he would have a spare key in this au)and give him the whole redemption speech as well

I imagine that Adam would be more reluctant in helping John, and also he would resent Zep for killing Lawrence even after he shows him his tape about just trying to get the antidote for the poison in his body and tell him how other people treated him. But i think Adam would feel EXTREMELY guilty for not being able to save Lawrence too, so his depression would intensify and he would develop probably develop some bad coping mechanisms…

I also think Zep would still feel bad for killing Lawrence and almost killing his family, he wouldn’t feel as guilty as Adam for not being able to save him, but it would be hard for him to live with especially with the whole torturing Allison and Diana thing(in the original script i think he cries over a drawing Diana did of her family) And i don’t think Zep would have any hard feelings towards Adam, he’s compassionate with pretty much anyone who isn’t his enemy or in his way in the movie, so i think he would be understanding on why Adam resents him so much and he would try and reassure him on Lawrence’s death not being his fault(though it wouldn’t really work)

I don’t think Zep and Adam would be rivals like Amanda and Mark though, i think Zep would be pretty nice to Adam, but Adam would just get frustrated or ignore him. I think their relationship would get better overtime though, like maybe Adam would talk to Zep more about his guilt and his other feelings(since Zep is shown to be quite kind and understanding when it comes to patients at the hospital he worked at)and maybe they would bond over shared interests(but im biased since i really like Lidshipping lmao)

And Adam would also probably take Amanda’s place in the second movie. I also think his main role would be watching other people the most out of everyone since that was pretty much what he was doing before he got put in the bathroom trap, and he would let John know about people being assholes or not appreciating their life(i also think he would be the kind of person to mostly choose people were like-genuinely awful instead of people who did minor things wrong or were actually struggling)

And I think Zep would be mad that John almost killed him, especially since he was pretty much the only person at the hospital who really felt empathy for him, but he wouldn’t get hung up on it for too long and I think he would get closer to John as well and be the one who gets him medicine from the hospital and gets medical supplies for him. But obviously him and Adam would wear those pig masks and kidnap people as well.

Holly: Had a mom and dad, no siblings. Good relationship with her parents and grandfather before the collapse. Lost everyone to Ridden.

Evangelo: He is in a family of like four or so kids?? I think canonically??? Got along well with mom and dad, loved his three older brothers but lost everyone to Ridden.

Mom: We know she had a son lost to Ridden, I assume the dad was estranged, or perhaps died before the collapse (Car accident, disease, etc).

Walker: This one was hard I just remember that one bit of dialogue about Walker not having anyone important to him and not letting anyone get emotionally close to him. I feel like this insinuates he lost his family very early in life and closed everyone off. Maybe a house fire, then grew up as an orphan, then joined the military?

Karlee: Bad relationship with her mom, dad was an alcoholic who was a good guy, but died to alcohol poisoning. She lived away from her mom as soon as she could, and her mom was killed by Ridden early on.

Hoffman: We know this man has daddy issues. He's definitely a single child, and I feel like he has a great relationship with his mom. Probably taught him a lot of life skills, and we know she died of old age after the collapse. I assumed Hoffman's dad abandoned them before the Collapse happened, which is why Hoffman thought his dad might be alive out there. I headcanon that his dad is in fact still alive, surviving in a bunker that he stocked before he even met his wife.

Doc: Doc is not sure if her family is still alive. Her dad and mom were in Korea last she heard, a video call before the Collapse being the last she'd seen of them. Headcanon that they died on their way to America.

Jim: Obviously good relationship with his brother until his unfortunate death. His parents were old, and didn't last long against the Ridden. Jim isn't sure how his cousins are, they're across the country and he had no way of finding out if he has any family left after the Collapse.

Sharice: I assume since Sharice was traveling with her firefighter gang that her family didn't survive the Ridden. She probably had a good relationship with her parents, I headcanon she had two moms.

Heng: We know Chenda is his daughter, we don't know who the mom is. She's probably dead, and assuming Heng never got married I'm guessing there was a custody battle and time sharing.

Dan: It is very hard to think of Dan having parents lmao. Were they as bombastic as him? I headcanon that they were polite, strict Christians, leading Dan to act out and leave home early. Lived homeless for years and survived after the Collapse by the skin of his teeth. His folks are dead, not that he knows, but he doesn't care to know anyways.

Tala: Her parents died sometime after the Collapse (I think that's canon?) and she is left with her brother Derek. No other family really.

And obviously everyone together is one big happy family :o)

 If so then shouldn't he had help Harry out till the very end?

But so is life -- the dark lord though him dead, he could just not act the part. Less the Tom kill him and make sure this time round.

I saw that you tagged sugi with "character assassination of the decade" and i couldn't agree more, crazy how shogun ass arc felt like the absolute peak of gntm and especially sugi's character and then everything afterward fell completely flat thanks to that nonsensical uts*ro twist. it's not even that i hate the idea of shoyo being evil before becoming a schoolteacher (in fact i think most ppl predicted he was connected to the naraku back in 2k13 lol), but why say "akshually he's alive all along" the literal arc after you reveal his dramatic death?? so much wasted potential because of that failure of a final boss and so many characters suffered as a result bc they weren't allowed further character development - i'm particularly pissed as a fan of zura, nobume, kagura (why is she still stuck to ginsan's side by the end instead of following her dream of being a space hunter) and the kiheitai

honestly i still remember reading the end of shogun ass arc when it came out, and i think bansai says "shinsuke's eyes were firmly focused on something" and how much hope it gave me... like the potential of zura + sugi working together to put the final nail in the coffin for the bakufu (zura by aiming for a legitimate place in a new govt and sugi with more underhanded methods lmao.. i still think kiheitai should've become high-grade bounty hunters at the end of the series), or the reveal of a bond btwn nobume and sugi since sasaki was working so closely with him. but instead that godawful "everyone vs aliens + dead guy who's actually alive" shonen cliche final battle happened. in fact i think it actively undermines the themes of the series bc until then i thought the true enemy isn't necessarily the amanto but the corruption and greed that existed in the so-called samurai country long before the amanto even arrived, and the goal was to figure out how to adapt to this new world and change yourself along the way.... but i guess the actual message was just "foreigners bad" which is way more reactionary than i expected lol. the gintaman in my head ended around ch 525, maybe ch 540 at the latest, after that it's all my delusions

yeah takasugi's eye was focused on something. it was focused on gintoki 😋 everything needs to be focused on gintoki all the time. takasugi's long-winded angst and anger need to shift focus from his love towards sensei to his bond with gintoki. zura's entire deal whatever it was needed to center gintoki and his interests. shinpachi and kagura needed to forfeit all of their initial plans and embrace arrested development forever because yorozuya means family means they need to blow the power of friendship up gintoki's ass 24/7. every single female of any species needs to have a cute little crush on gintoki and he needs to be the main character for every rando he meets, changing their lives forever through his imposing presence. other characters can not have any conflict or development or agenda that doesn't center or at least heavily involve gintoki. and also nobody is allowed to have any rapport with each other independently of gintoki. never forget about the specialest little boy in the universe, if he doesn't get to give at least 5 boring pompous speeches per chapter or have a few epic one-liners everyone working on this franchise will need to immediately kill themselves (specified in their employment contracts in bold). also if you have anything less than enthusiastic to say about this you're a cretin who is too dumb to understand that any story that doesn't revolve around its main character always with no breaks is worthless and that doing exactly that is the epitome of genius writing btw.

takasugi's character assassination felt particularly asinine because for 80% of the story he's being menacing without much screen time and his personal drama is mostly hinted at, then he gets lots of focus in shogun assassination and it culminates in the plot twist flashback, after which he dedicates all his efforts to being overtly sad for gintoki and suffering more than jesus, and then he's killed off without any resolution. AND THEN HE'S REBORN AS SOME UGLY ASS BABY. like he can't get any dignity or integrity even in death lmao but it's ok i still love him bc as mentioned above gintama ended on chapter 519...

yeah i still think it might be not that deep but like it starts off as foreigners are the enemy and they came here to destroy our beautiful country so we have to stay resilient against their harassment. then it transcends to this country has always had its own rot and we the righteous and lovable riff-raffs will bring justice to it in the name of the moon, the country itself doesn't matter, we just want to protect our loved ones against anything that threatens them. and then it goes back to foreigners are evil and we'll actually go and kick their asses on their own territory even. to protect this country. alright!

But the show is quite focused on Blunt as the bad guy while everyone else gets humanised more

Very excited by that last scene! I love Nile so much already, he’s very cool and I love him offering Alex a one-time chance to get info, and how it ends with Tom and Kyra having no idea what happened with Alex. Nice to see some stuff with the Department too and the letter to the prime minister (that apparently didn’t reach the prime minister’s office lmao)

Thoughts/predictions

Not entirely sure what the point was with the new data scientist story except to make Smithers and Mrs Jones upset and look more emotional than Blunt. Like yes, it’s very sad but also I do question how good they are at their jobs if they react to every death like this. In general the show seems to be isolating Blunt from the rest of the department people a lot more than the books, but I like how he still comes across as better than the Home Secretary (who should be fired just for plugging in that USB stick into her laptop, frankly).

Nile is very cool and I love him. Do miss his more casual and cheerful attitude from the book though, but I’m super excited to see where this goes and where he takes Alex. He’s getting answers!! Love Nile casually playing the bomb and setting the timer and just asking the scientist guy questions about the cardboard cover.

It’s kind of ironic how they are not telling Tom’s brother about what is going on when in the books Tom immediately tells Jerry that Alex is MI6 despite Alex talking to him about the importance of not telling anyone haha. But I like how he did catch on. I assume maybe Tom will end up being his photographer, but Alex being assumed dead or missing is probably not helping.

It’s really interesting how the demands have changed and how it’s more UK focused, which makes sense since in the books the context was very much the Iraq war and Tony Blair/Alistair Campbell and the special relationship between the USA and the UK. But here I assume the reason Scorpia picked the UK is personal, because the Department dealt the blow that nearly finished them off 17 years ago.

Just caught up on Fairy Tail lore. For reference: I clocked out during the Grand Magic Games and kept up a bit during the time they were fighting that dark guild; the one with Gray’s Dad in it. Let’s get into some things:

1. I need anime to start giving their characters better motives. Zeref doing all that to get Natsu back? Acnologia becoming a dracocidal(LMAO) maniac because of an isolated event and the death of one child? Please be serious. This is like Obito deciding to stop suffering by starting a world war and killing billions of creatures. Anime logic is soooooo

2. Zeref and Mavis were both cursed by some God to be immortal for interfering with natural order? What happened to good ole “a life for a life”? And then having an old ass son that Zeref didn’t know was his? Also, Zeref ruling a whole kingdom and - I’m assuming - no one was aware?! They been talking about the ancient and legendary dark wizard Zeref since day 1 and he been a hop and a skip over

3. 400 years ago is not “ancient”

4. They’re not making dragonization seem like that much of an issue. I get that it’s hard to shift back to human but Zeref was able to do it with like a wave of his hand. And Zeref being so powerful and so much more skilled than someone like Irene doesn’t really make sense to me.

5. The power difference between Irene and Acnologia makes no sense to me either. She the Original Model, so why is he so much more powerful. Which dragon gave him their magic anyway? I get he eats magic(I’m assuming the same way the other slayers eat their specific magic), but it’s just not giving. And if Zeref is so powerful why he ain’t just handle this forever ago.

6. Why didn’t Belserion just jump into Irene’s soul like the other 5 did to their children? Irene had no reason to abandon Erza. She was human again and Erza would’ve been way safer with her than growing up in Rosemary Village.

7. Erza used to be so badass, but she hasn’t really had a power upgrade since damn near the beginning of the series(My memory fuzzy tho. it’s been over a decade). And her not being a dragon slayer or somewhat dragon doesn’t make sense. Irene was transforming when she was pregnant, was a dragon while the pregnancy was halted, and gave birth whilst a dragon - just in human form. Her “DNA” was definitely draconic when Erza was developing. Why did Erza’s dad do that to Irene? They had dragons on their side. Dragons giving them Dragon Slayer magic was how they were able to not be annihilated. Also, the being nice to the point of your detriment shit is so tired. She could’ve easily subdued those guards and her husband. She didn’t even have to kill them.

8. It took y’all 400 years to do this? Why?

9. Mavis. Is she dead? Is she alive? She died but yet was preserved in the Lacrima? I’m guessing Makarov’s father did something. Still a mess Her and Zeref fucked or is it some “Mother Mavis” and “August Christ” type shit?

10. Zeref and Acnologia’s power just make no sense to me. I’m so sick of the “genius” excuse. It’s giving bad fanfiction.

11. This 100 years war thing? God. What now? Someone’s coming from 100 years in the past? There’s 5 “Dragon Gods” who ran from Acnologia out of fear, but somehow became more powerful than him…? One of them is Natsu’s brother who has never been mentioned by anyone beforehand. And is he a human by birth or a dragon by birth? Let’s wrap it up please.💀

12. Also, if they really wanted to gag the live, they would’ve gave Lucy the Spirit King’s Key. She should not be going to fight Brandish thinking she can’t win. Erza shouldn’t have been fighting Irene with no chance of winning. Where’s the skill? The innovation? That’s the issue. Only Mavis and Zeref made new shit. Everyone else only used what was already available.

41. Are there any books you feel have shaped you as a writer?

I read the Picture of Dorian Gray as a young teenager and made it the majority of my personality ever since. The Legend of Drizzt, LotR/Hobbit, some of the Silmarillion, Eragon, and Look for me by Moonlight - These were particularly prominent as the main reasons why I really love epic, high fantasy styles with medieval inclinations. Look for me by Moonlight is a vampire novel that I read in place of Twilight.

No copies of Twilight were available at my library so I found Look for me by Moonlight instead. Similar introduction, a plane jane girl has to go live with her dad and little brother in Nowhere, USA. Her dad owns a hotel and a Mysterious, Handsome Stranger much older than her 16 year old self flirts with her. Essentially the book does a turn-heel and the vampire kills everyone she loves because she had cold feet about becoming a vampire. It was such a cool ending I was disappointed with twilight thereafter

Lots of Edgar Allan Poe, of course. Fall of the House of Usher and Lenore were my favorite works for a really long time, and I'm excited for the House of Usher series thats supposed to come out.

18. Tell us about that one book you’ll never let anyone read

As in one that I attempted to write? Back in like, 2010 I had one I called "Obscured" ; it was supposed to be a noir about a serial killer who stole faces (that look like his mother bc I guess I was doing a norman bates thing), but eventually became Obsessed(tm) with the detective and wanted His face, so he befriended him and stalked him and started killing people that looked liked the Detective before kidnapping the detective to "have" / "collect" alive and whole; the detective was on to him from the beginning, but risked getting to know him for proof before getting kidnapped.

eventually the detective used his own stockholm syndrome to get the killer to turn himself in, but became a killer himself with the same MO (killing people who looked like the original killer, taking their faces). I think. It's been over 10 years since I even Looked at it. Maybe there's something there, but not for a 16 y/o to skillfully write.

Frankly if I knew how to draw comics I think it could be pretty good as a horror yaoi or something. But as a Novel? No.... Never finished it, never will! I still have my big chunky draft somewhere tho... My english teacher actually read it and wrote lots of notes for me. 6. Favorite character you’ve written?

Sigurd Helvega, hands down! He's my babygirl, my little meow meow, my blorbo, and all the weird little tumblr words for it. I have the majority of his story planned out, I need to sit down and actually Write it. Maybe make better outlines. One day.... some day..... Writing Dragon Age Fanfic though is decent practice. I should read Drizzt and LotR again for more writing and narrative style inspo.

WIP Wednesday I guess??

Hi, I’ve never actually done one of these before. Anyway, here’s Sunshine & Boone post his companion quest. Just wait, I’ll end up posting Sunny’s entire story as wips and drafts before we finally get there lmao.

The dust settled and... he was still alive. It was hard to say how he felt, and even harder to pick up his feet and start moving again. During the thick of the battle it'd been easy, but now? Where was he supposed to go from here?

Medics rushed past him to get the wounded back to the medical tents and the dead properly tended to while everyone else settled into a general unease. Legionaries and their dogs littered the ground, but the remaining troopers quickly got to work piling the bodies out of town to be burned. 

Sunshine was already beginning to rally the surviving refugees for a celebratory drink, despite the fact it was barely past daybreak, but he followed suit regardless. The survivors clapped him on the back and thanked him for his service- it made his skin itch- but soon enough they were gathering around Sunny ready to hear a story from the great Courier Six. She winked at him as he left, and if he didn't know any better he would've thought she did it on purpose.

Boone took his beer to the top of one of the cliff edges that overlooked Bitter Springs and sat there for a good long while, watching the sunrise over the Mojave. He’d watched this same scene every day for years in Novac, but it’d lost it’s touch after Carla died. She’d never really liked the sunrise and if he was honest he hadn’t given it a lot of thought either, but she’d get up everyday to kiss him good morning and spend what few hours of daylight they had together. When the night sky began to disappear and he could see the beginnings of golds and pinks on the horizon he knew he’d be in her arms again.

When he lost her all he could see was the end to another day that he didn’t want to be living. 

Boone sighed and took a drink. Had Carla gotten what was supposed to come for him, or had she been his punishment? Why was he still here now? 

Familiar self-hatred cooled his blood like poison and clouded his mind. Another drink. 

Spending all this time around Half Pint, Sunshine, and the others had made him forget sometimes how awful it was to sit there and think. It was, amongst many other reasons, why he had to leave Novac. All he could do there was think about Carla and what he did to her, think about Bitter Springs and what he did to them, and wait for whatever was coming for him on the horizon. He hadn’t planned on doing anything else in his life until those two had come around and dragged him out of there, but he knew now that he couldn’t have stayed. Not for his own sake or that of anyone else in Novac. No. He just wouldn’t have been satisfied waiting for Legionaries to come to him when he could hunt them down himself. 

He would’ve died in the Mojave if those two hadn't come and he would’ve accepted it as what he deserved. It was only right. 

Yet, he was still here. 

Boone took another drink. 

He'd talk to Sunny once she was done making a scene, but the longer he sat there along with his thoughts the harder it became to sit still. It was like they couldn't go anywhere at all without revolving back around to the same questions that he didn't have answers for. He hadn't realized how much it'd helped having her listen. Having her talk. It was easier with someone else filling in the silence for you as annoying he’d once thought it was.

It was a while before she came to join him- a six-pack in one hand and kebabs in the other- and without asking she settled next to him. 

"I snagged this from the back so we could have a victory drink together." She said, cracking open two more bottles and handing one of them to him

"...Again?"

"You should know better than to leave these sticky fingers alone by now."

He wanted to smile. It was funny. But his own thoughts were too consuming. Didn't stop him from noticing the scent of smoke coming from further down the canyon. It seemed too high of honor for them. The Legion didn’t even bother to do that. Why not let them suffer the same fates as all their victims- their carcasses picked apart by the Mojave. 

“So, you finally work through all your brooding?”

"We made it through. Not sure what to make of that.” 

“I guess not.” She said mockingly.

He glared at her to say, ‘Take this seriously for once’ but predictably she laughed at him and wrapped an arm around his shoulder, "You underestimated us. As if the team that took down Caesar in his own god damn fort could be bested by some lame raiding party."

“Guess I did. Guess I figured whatever we could handle, this time the Legion was going to send more.”

He could see Sunshine open her mouth for another retort, but not this time. 

He cut her off. “I should’ve died here a long time ago. When I spotted the Legionaries today I thought I understood. Things were going to finally even out.” He shook his head, “But I’m still here and nothing’s changed.”

She frowned at his response and dropped the whole easy-going act. Good. He needed her to take this one seriously. Her response, even so, came quick. “Why would it? Shit happens Boone. There’s no dude in the sky, or mysterious will of the universe that cares enough about you to personally pay for your fuck ups.”

“If that's how it is, there's not a lot of comfort in knowing it.”

“Aw boohoo. It wasn’t supposed to be comforting.” Sunshine rolled her eyes at him, “You fucked up. Do you think a single Khan cares that you’re so bent out of shape about it? No, because their family’s still dead and you feeling bad about it isn’t gonna bring them back.” She sighed exasperated, “I mean, what’s the point of hanging on to all of that old shit? Why not move on? You fucked up, but you’re still alive so you got the chance to do better. So stop wasting your time waiting to die.”

Typical. Even if he appreciated how she never minced words, Sunshine was still callously present. It wasn’t like that didn’t have merit, but it frustrated him as much as it made her admire her. She was refusing to understand what he felt, but it wasn’t like he could make her. She didn’t know yet what it was like to do something that horrible and to live every day with the consequences. No matter how selfish she could be, she hadn’t done it yet. 

A part of him hated that that day was coming for her, but he also knew it was one of the many things that he had no control over. He could only see it coming, even if she never would.

None of this changed how he felt in the moment. He still felt lost. He was so used to following someone else that he realized now that without direction he would stop moving. NCR, Carla, and now Sunshine. But Sunshine wasn’t giving him orders, even as bossy as she was, but he could follow the seed of truth in her words.

He sighed, “Still feels like I'm living on borrowed time.” Feeling her interjection coming he continued on,”But I don't see any reason not to take a lot more of those sons of bitches with me. You got a point. There are still some things I can do before all this is over.”

Sunshine smiled and wrapped an arm around his neck, “Atta-boy. Now come on we got a Mojave to save.”

He finally smiled at her, “And Legion ass to kick.”

“Fucking cheers to that!”

They got back on the road shortly after (Sunshine was tired of being somewhere so depressing), and Boone was glad for it. As the rising sun poured over them both he was glad that the bodies were taken care of as quickly as they were. The stink of death wouldn’t have to linger in Bitter Springs any longer than it had to.

Higurashi When They Cry Part 9 - Rei

Saikoroshi-hen

A world where Satoshi is alive? Or well and about, I should say. It's been a while so I miss the Higurashi characters, feels very nostalgic, but lmao at Satoko's apology. It's really like her to apologise because she's been forced to but still say it was Rika's fault for standing there spacing out lmao. Satoko doesn't seem to be friends with Rika? And Irie isn't here? It's the Takano clinic and not the Irie clinic? Her grandfather founded this place? Did he never adopt Takano? Did her real parents survive? It's certainly a very different world, and it doesn't help that Hanyuu isn't around. A world without Keiichi is always boring haha, but it's sad to think that the club doesn't exist either! This is a world that really sucks lol. I'm not sure how to feel about this world because it's probably considered "good" that the dam project is going ahead with no issues, no one dead, Satoko having her family, Rena staying as Reina without her trauma, Keiichi staying in Tokyo I assume and grandfather Takano getting to open a clinic here. But just because everyone is "happy", will the world be happy? Will leaving really be okay? I'm glad Rika found Hanyuu even if they can't talk much and she can't come to this world because knowing that someone is waiting for you always gives more motivation. It's sad that Rika worked so hard only to be stuck in this world and have to look for a fragment to somehow leave and go back to that "perfect" world where they survived past June 1983.

I feel so bad for Rika. She's so alienated in this world, and to see Satoko so outrightly hate her and show it was just so sad when they were such good friends. I can see why Rika disregarded this world and didn't want to bother with interacting with anyone and trying to protect herself by saying to herself that this wasn't her world anyway so she doesn't need to care about people. But I'm glad that she was able to talk to that doctor and in turn cause Mion and them to overhear and tell them their thoughts on the issue of her being isolated which was the fault of both her and them, but that they want to fix that. It even helped Rika seek to improve her relationship with her parents since she always considered them annoying to deal with because she never got to know them beyond the annoying nagging they did to her as a child since they never lived past her childhood, and repeating worlds again and again would dull any emotions and love you would have for anyone, let alone them who become "irrelevant" in the beginning and was basically a fate that can't be changed. Honestly, I thought Satoko would be the one with the fragment but I guess it's fitting that it would be her mother instead who is actually the one considered to be the reincarnation of Oyashiro-sama.

Rika's decision is difficult. So difficult that I wouldn't know what to choose either. A world where everyone is "happy" because they committed no "sins" and are living to their fullest with the best rolls of the dice is so nice and peaceful that I can't help but think it's the correct choice. But a world without Keiichi is just so sad even if he is "happy". I agree with Rika that people are never satisfied with the result of a choice they didn't struggle with. There will always be regret. Personally, I hope Rika didn't kill her mother to return to this world and things just naturally fell in place with the original Rika taking back her body and this Rika going back because it would be so painful of a thing to bear, matricide in a happy world like that would be devastating, especially for the father since he would lose his wife and daughter. But I agree with Rena that choosing this original world is "correct" because by choosing that perfect world, it undermines all the growth Keiichi and them all went through to become the people they are today. No matter how painful it was, they all got through it together and finally achieved the stability and happiness they all wanted. But I do think it was a good lesson to Rika to once again understand what it means by choosing the world that she has chosen, because it is true that ever since she made herself numb to her parents' deaths, she cared less about them, so having Hanyuu show her the importance of these emotions again should help her live happily with Keiichi and them too. Overall, I think the chapter was OK. I think the ending could have been executed better I guess but I do like how it helped Rika understand how jaded she had become repeating the timelines again and again, and then actively choosing to fight for the world she wanted and letting her emotions feel like they had a place again after all the suffering she had to go through with things that were considered "fate".

Hirukowashi-hen

The magatama thing making Rena fall in love with Tomitake is pretty funny because of how rattled he and Takano are hahaha. Lmaooo when her target became Takano and Takano was so on board with being so praised and loved. LOL at how amazing Rena is at everything that she's even tag teaming with Ooishi in mahjong after reading some manga🤣 Is this the power of love?🤣 It's true that Rena is amazing in the sense when she falls in love, instead of having the person she loves come into her world and learn about the things she loves, she steps into their world and wholeheartedly delves herself into their interests and sincerely does her best to enjoy it with them. It's sweet and very heartwarming. LMAO when Takano and Tomitake the next day started fighting over Rena because of what she said yesterday🤣🤣 Overall, a short but sweet bonus story of random shenanigans is what I'd call this part because it was really amusing seeing Rena going after everyone and assisting them in whatever they were doing while using her strength to kick away everyone else from interfering with her love hahaha. She really doesn't let anything stop her.

Batsukoishi-hen

Keiichi crying over getting last place all the time in the club games and having to do the punishment game is funny, but him praying to never lose again and then having Tomitake, Irie and Ooishi drop down from his ceiling was just hilarious. The guys thinking about punishing the girls by having them wear different costumes doing embarrassing things was just LOL. Putting a recorder in between Takano's cleavage as a punishment game must be the most random thing to imagine🤣🤣 It's so funny how they even roped in the principal as a part of this and then in the end it had to be kept as just daydreams for Keiichi because it became too wild loll. Shion's fantasy of Irie and Keiichi bonding like a BL with Keiichi in a maid uniform and then the same with Tomitake and Keiichi (in a bunny suit) was just lolll, I died. Satoshi feeding Keiichi yoghurt has to be the most weird but so cutee fantasy LOL.

The staff reel and cast talk is always so fun. Anyway, overall, other than Saikoroshi, I feel like the other chapters were really random and definitely not what I expected lol. I'd say it was still enjoyable but definitely not a must read. Even Saikoroshi I'm a bit iffy about just because I wasn't too fond of how it ended but I did like the dilemma of thinking of choosing between a perfect world and the imperfect one that made you grow as the person you became. It made me question things and I liked that, but otherwise, the magatama one was also kinda cute but yeah, the whole of Rei was just decent, 6/10 haha.
