even though aylin could not identify where the sudden feeling came from, she felt the desperate urge to escape the watchful eye of the ton and seek solitude. through sheer luck and a little determination, she managed to evade her guard and found herself in a secluded section of the gardens. once she was finally alone, she took in a deep, calming breath and savoured the silence. however, her peace is short-lived, much to her own shock and dismay, as she turned to find another person suddenly standing much too close to her. "aman tanrım," she gasped as her hand flew to her chest, taking a step back from the individual. "my apologies, you frightened me— i—"

every day that began with a visit to isla was a good day. while he adored his family, hers was the first face he wished to see in the morning, so, every chance he got, he would make his way over to her, usually with a small token of his affection in hand. today, he had a bouquet of fresh flowers to offer her.

when he entered the drawing room, a grin spread across his lips upon seeing her. "dearest isla," he greeted her with a nod, extending his hand to present his gift to her. "may i escort you to the mayfair fete on this fine day?"

A mix of feelings and thoughts swirled around in Patrick's mind but he chose to ignore them, opting to put on a good face as he was certain there would be eyes on him. He was simultaneously relieved and disappointed to not have won Isabella's basket. After the last scandal sheet that reported their walk, he figured it was best to be safe. He did not want to draw any unnecessary attention.

With a kind smile, he approached the brunette. "Miss McIves," he offered with a slight nod. "You are looking lovely today. I was thrilled to win your basket in the auction." Although his smile didn't quite reach his eyes, he was hopeful that the pair would enjoy their picnic. He liked Grace, she was a fine woman and he enjoyed her company. He only hoped that she would not form an attachment to him, for he could not reciprocate. "Shall we?" He asked, offering her his arm.

Uncertain, she decides against asking more questions to clarify and does not push the subject any further. "Of course," she responds with a nod. "Lemonade sounds wonderful, incredibly refreshing. Is there anything else you would like, my lady?"

Evangeline’s smile grew upon hearing the question, nodding eagerly. “I thought you would never ask … and perhaps a drink? Lemonade? Or perhaps something stronger, if your day has been particularly trying?”

A smile envelopes her lips as he listens. “I will take the lemonade, but there is nothing stopping you from indulging.” She smiles, knowing she cannot drink but enjoys the social aspects nonetheless.

Winter Carnival

January

January 8 – Harvard Square’s 8th Annual month long Winter Carnival commencing with the Boston Celtic Music Festival & Club Passim – live in Harvard Square Station…..MLK’s I Have a Dream speech, recited by Cambridge public school children.

January 22-23 and 24th – Taste of Chocolate Festival in Harvard Square! Find a chocolate sponsor i.e. (Lindt) to sample at Harvard Square Station….(Lindt is a featured chocolatier at Cardullo’s and other shops in Harvard Square).

January 30th – Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year Parade!  Parade at 3pm with a stop at Harvard Square Station ….followed by her award presentation and roast.

February

February 6 – Display the trophy and accept the ballots for the 8th Annual “Some Like it Hot Chili Cook-off” from 1pm – 2:30 pm (the day before the Super Bowl)….where the public can enjoy samples of chili from some of Harvard Square’s HOTTEST restaurants while enjoying  musical entertainment! Cast your vote for the best “Some Like it Hot” Chili in Harvard Square in the Harvard Square Station.

February 7 – Super Bowl Sunday in Harvard Square! Invite folks to come to watch the Super Bowl in various Harvard Square establishments….however, invite them to stop by Harvard Square Station to drop off canned and boxed goods to replenish Cambridge food pantries…

February 14 – 15 – 16 – Lovin’ the Square.  This year’s Valentine’s event will feature fabulous food and drinks from Harvard Square’s restaurants, romantic and fun deals from our retailers and a variety of interesting, cozy and entertaining things to do from all of our cultural icons. Meet at Harvard Square Station to create a special valentine.  (Partner with an appropriate sponsor who will provide all the necessary arts supplies.)    

February 23 - Chinese New Year.  Come celebrate Chinese New Year in Harvard Square!  2014 is the year of the Horse and the 59th Anniversary of the Hong Kong in Harvard Square.  As usual, Massachusetts Avenue from the Hong Kong to Harvard Square Station will be festooned with red and gold lanterns hanging from our wrought iron lampposts as we prepare for our grand Chinese New Year procession through Harvard Square and our cultural "Open House" at the Hong Kong!  Lion Dancers will stop at Harvard Station for a special performance.  

Early Spring

March

March 1st – Women History Month in Harvard Square.  Breakfast meet and greet at Harvard Square Station with Harvard Square’s civic, business, academic and political leaders.

March 2nd – The 86th Annual Academy Awards Oscar Sunday – Harvard Square establishments will be hosting viewing parties.  Prior to the party, please come by Harvard Square Station with your gently used gowns and evening wear…which will be donated to Belle of the Ball. Belle of the Ball/Anton’s Cleaners will clean your gowns and donate them students unable to afford Prom gowns.      

March 16th – March 21st & March 23rd – March 28th – Winter Restaurant Week in Harvard Square! Come by Harvard Square Station to sample delicious restaurant offerings.

March 17th – Harvard-Go-Brach events!  Join us in Harvard Square as we celebrate our Irish Cultural Heritage!  Come by Harvard Square Station to take an Irish step-dancing class…dance the Irish jig…and listen to live Irish music and poetry!

April 18th – 27th – The 9th Annual Cambridge Science Festival. Harvard Square is full of scientific surprises! Come by Harvard Square Station where science projects created by Cambridge public school children will be on display.  

April 26th – The 7th Annual Bookish Ball and Shakespeare’s Birthday Celebration!  Partnering with the Cambridge Public Library, Actors’ Shakespeare Project and Harvard Square’s bookstores, please join us for bookstore strolls, music, dancing, performances, and birthday cake which will be served in Harvard Square Station from 2:00 until 3:30 p.m. along with a fun and surprising round of POP- UP SHAKESPEARE!

May

May 1st – May 4th – The 24th Annual Harvard Arts First Festival – Join hundreds of Harvard undergraduates, graduates and faculty in Harvard’s annual celebration of the arts! Join us at Harvard Square Station where art work created by Harvard students will be on display.

May 4th – The 33rd Annual Mayfair Featuring six stages of live entertainment, dozens of restaurant vendors, hundreds of street vendors selling artwork, jewelry, vintage clothing, neighborhood sidewalk sales, and the Rotary Club of Cambridge’s Annual Chalk on the Walk!  From noon – 6pm. Harvard Square Station will be the information center of the festival. Lost and Found, Information, Command Central.

May 5th – Cinco de Mayo – Mexican heritage celebrated in the restaurants of Harvard Square.  Join us at Harvard Square Station for a performance by Mariachi’s de Veritas….a fabulous Mariachi band made up entirely of Harvard Students.

May 11th – Mother’s Day! Stop by Harvard Station to leave a post-it note message for mom. Messages will be placed on the walls of the building. Post-it notes will be provided….

May 29th –  367th Harvard Commencement.   Harvard Square Station will be the centerpiece of the activity….with plenty of outside seating, planters overflowing with flowers and street musicians playing to the crowds.

June 2nd – Harvard Square’s Annual Patios in Bloom Festival.  Come celebrate as we officially open patio season with the installation of our Victorian Flower Baskets both on the lampposts….and at Harvard Square Station.  

June 6th – June 15th – Gay Pride in Harvard Square.  Public discussion held in Harvard Station led by GBLT groups from the City of Cambridge.  

June 15th – Father’s Day! A father and child(ren) walk around the Square will begin and end at Harvard Square Station.  Followed by a light breakfast sponsored by the Harvard Square Business Association.    

June 21st – 7th Annual Make Music Harvard Square, Fete de la Musique! A square wide musical celebration held in every nook and cranny, park and plaza and street and patio throughout the day and evening…with special musical performances at Harvard Square Station.

Summer

July

July 4th – Harvard Square Station, festooned with red, white and blue balloons…is a reception center for all the visitors coming in for the firework celebration on the Charles River.

July 13th – Bastille Day!  Join us on Holyoke Street for a stormin’ French street festival featuring fabulous French food, music and dance!  Harvard Square Station will feature French music and French coffee and mini croissants…(we will find a sponsor for this event.)

October 9th –  38th Annual Oktoberfest and HONK Festival features six stages of 8live entertainment, dozens of international food vendors, hundreds of street vendors selling artwork, jewelry, and vintage clothing, neighborhood sidewalk sales and HONK! bands from around the country. Harvard Square Station will be the centerpiece of the event. (Information, Lost & Found, Command Central)    

October 18th – 19th – The 52th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta, the world’s largest two-day rowing event, brings 7,500 athletes from around the world to compete in 55 different race events.  Harvard Square Station will be the “Welcome Center”….to the thousands of visitors.  

October 31st – November 2nd – Harvard Scare!  Spooky and fun activities throughout the Square.  Costumed children of all ages are invited to join us at Harvard Square Station where we will gather to parade around the Square….and join us as we trick-or-treat at numerous Harvard Square restaurants and shops where goodies await.

November 

November 1st – 30th – 6th Annual Folk Music Month in Harvard Square.  This month-long event will feature special displays of FOLK memorabilia (think Bob Dylan, Joan Baez) at Harvard Square Station…..culminating in a very special folk music performance at the end of the month….also in the Station.

November 22nd – 13rd Harvard/Yale Game at Harvard.  Meet your friends at Harvard Square Station for complimentary hot chocolate or hot cider before the game!

November 27th – Thanksgiving!  Starting November 12th and running through November 25th, the Harvard Square Station will be set up to receive your donations of frozen turkeys, fresh veggies and thanksgiving fixings….which will be distributed to various social service agencies and food pantries throughout the city.

December 4th – Harvard Square Station will feature a giant community-wide “Make Our Own Cambridge Gingerbread House” which will be displayed until Christmas.

December 20th – The “Some Like it Hot” Everyone Loves Latkes Party! From 1pm – 2pm, the 8th annual Everyone Loves Latkes Party features the most delicious, most creative and best-looking latkes and condiments around!  This free event features latke donations from the fabulous restaurants of Harvard Square. There will be a very special Klezmer music performance….and a reading of the Runaway Latkes, by Leslie Kimmelman, Paul Yalowitz (Illustrator) at Harvard Square Station.

"Wicked RollerCoaster Weekend" 🎢🎈🎡 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Was fortunate enough to be able to perform 2 shows over the weekend (both yesterday 🔙) as each rare opportunity had its own unique challenges & characteristics along with various situations to be enjoyed & 'absorbed'. 💞⚛️ One was during the day @ my local community's annual "Mayfair Fete". Which I was grateful to play (3rd year in a row MAY I add 😉), as it ALSO provided me to share my interest & passion for The MusicBus (teaching kids music) WHILE @ my ol' stompin' grounds! AKA primary / elementary school 🇦🇺🇺🇸 Eg. BHNPS [*Represent 👊🏼] --------------------------------------------------------- ANDDD (okay, I'll quit usin' capital letters & exclamation marks NOW!!!) the other was last night in the city, during the opening Vivid Festival Weekend 🌃🔦🎇 @ Burdekin Hotel / monthly event AMPM. Playin' a more "fuller stage set up" & original based encouraged set (thanks friends!), despite throwin' a cover (or 2) in 4 good measure 🎤🎵🎤 To say it was just fun & educational would be selling it short, as it was very unlike any other gigs / days (& nights) I've ever experienced before. A May 26th, I shall remember for a long time 💭🔮🔄 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Sooo thanksss to ALLLL (sorry I lied, I couldn't resist the CAPS LOCK BUTTON) to those who came along & shared the very memorable experience w/ me (whether you wanted to or not‼️🙃👎). despite social convention dictating that one should ask questions to keep the conversation flowing, evangeline could not bring herself to enquire after nova's younger sister. it could invite a conversation about her own family and that was not a topic she wished to discuss at this moment, so she opted for a smile and a nod. "explore we shall ... what would you most like to enjoy?" she asked in an attempt to change the subject, offering her arm to nova, "perhaps a meal of only sweets? or shall we play by the rules and begin with savoury foods?"

the question posed to her had an eyebrow raising. nova smiled sweetly, her eyes lighting up at the thought of exploring the stalls. though.. as the other girl mentioned it being her treat, the ravenette couldn't stop a slight frown from crossing her face for a brief moment. nova hated feeling like a charity case, and having someone else pay for her food made her feel like exactly that. of course, she knew the woman didn't mean it in such a way, so it was something that she would not address. "of course, that sounds lovely. i have not had much time to explore the stalls, my baby sister has kept me very busy as of late." nova laughed softly, smiling sweetly once again.

"And I you." She replied with a smile. It was such a relief to finally discuss the matters that had plagued her. For a moment, Edwina feared that she had lost her friend, but now that they were here, she was confident that their friendship could weather any storm. "Thank you," she replied, genuinely touched by the statement. "I did not expect to grow so attached this quickly. It is truly wonderful." Although she and Friedrich were courting, there was no assurance that the prince would not fall for another during that time. His charm made the scenario all too likely, Edwina thought. "Indeed, it has been far too long since I have seen my sister this happy" she smiled, "though, I do dare say that she is still rather stubborn," she chuckled, head tilting slightly in thought, "stubbornly smitten, perhaps?"

Edwina considered what was said for a moment and nodded tentatively. “I do not believe it matters if that person is a gentleman or a lady,” she replied, only loud enough for Agnes to hear. “Love is the only thing that matters. It is so difficult to come across true, genuine love in this world and you may never know when it can be taken from you. To that end, it may be difficult but I hope that nothing prevents you from pursuing whoever your heart races for.” She concluded, reading from her friend’s expression that she was finished discussing the topic. Especially here and now. “You have?” She asked almost as if it were a reflex, her spirit lifting with the discussion. “I—” She began with a smile, suddenly feeling rather bashful as she thought of the prince. “—I believe I am. He is goodness and kindness itself. It is still strange to believe that he has chosen me.” She nodded eagerly at the mention of her sister’s upcoming nuptials. “Indeed, I will pass on your congratulations. I am exceedingly happy, as is she which is … all I have wished to see for years.”

She was eternally grateful for her friendship with Edwina. She was strong minded, and caring and it was something she needed. She needed someone who understood her, and in honesty, she appeared to understand her more than she did herself. “Thank you, Edwina, I truly appreciate you.” She reassured with a warm smile. She was happy for her,  and the happiness she had found. She could not imagine courting a prince, or a princess for such matters -- it was royalty that required protocol, and she was not keen on such ideas. However, Prince Friedrich seemed kind and he made Edwina happy, that was all she ever wished for her. “I think you sound perfect for each other, both equally as kind.” She smiled, tilting her head. “Your sister appeared rather stubborn at first, but when in the company of the Viscount, she seems smitten.” She commented with a smile.

"i had not expected it myself either, but the fete helped me see that there are many manners that are not simply black and white but grey. i believe a part of me already knew that prior to today, but it is definitely a nice reminder." edwina nods, chuckling softly. her mother's answer causes her smile to grow wider. edwina believes she can discern the difference between her mother's true smile and the smile she puts on to assuage any worries, and this smile felt genuine. "i am glad, for i long to see you happy. forgive me if i speak out of turn, mama ... regardless of the past, this is your home as well and you deserve to feel comforted by its surroundings."

I did not seek to call yours or any authority into question or cause you any worry, but I understand that my actions did." She sighed, trying to find the words to best describe her feelings. "—I just wanted to exist, but for a moment ... without having to be anyone's anything. Is that ... normal?"

she takes in a calming breath upon hearing her brother’s all too familiar voice. with a smile, she turns to face him. “brother,” she greets with a slight nod, maintaining her calm manner. she had expected this, rarely did her actions escape her brother’s notice, but she was hoping that he’d be distracted by the commotion of the fete. “—who did you hear such a report from?”

His brows furrow together, lips moving to the glass to take a sip. “I don’t reveal my sources -- besides, you did not deny it, so I have the answer to my question.” He sighed, shaking his head. He cared for his sister, and only had her safety at heart.

her expression brightens as she reaches for the daisy, taking the flower from him with an appreciative nod. "thank you, sir colby." she replies, linking her arm with his. the air surrounding her suddenly feels lighter, less dull and melancholy, and she is confident that the gentleman before her had a hand in the change. although the day's previous interaction still remains, she pushes the thought to the smallest corner of her mind. "it may be that we are both lucky ... do not fear for i shall not ask such a thing of you. i am much too generous to deprive anyone of my presence." she jests, chuckling softly. however pleasant the sentiment, daphne cannot refrain from wondering if he had used the same turn of phrase to charm another young lady. "i had planned to search for my eldest brother as i am certain he is sufficiently perturbed by your wager on miss kate's basket but now that you are here, i do not feel the urge to rush to his side ... and it would be an utter shame to rush on such a lovely day like this, would it not?"

he's quick to join her, though before he reaches her, his fingers snap the stem of a single daisy from the bush beside them, offering it to her with a gentle smile. ❝ surely not, miss daphne, as their mistake is my gain. ❞ he's easy to flirt with the young bridgerton, offering her his arm without so much as a question. her company was preferable to the other simpering woman. ❝ i consider myself truly lucky to be in your company, i fear i shall never be one to leave you alone, unless you ask for it. ❞ he chuckles, though his thoughts weigh heavy, their is a lightness in her company that he likes, an ease of conversation. ❝ should you care to promenade or should i accompany you to where you were headed ? ❞

aylin chuckles in response, mild embarrassment burns her cheeks upon getting caught in such a position. "it is—" she pauses, features crinkling in thought. "flee the country without notice?" the concept certainly intrigues her, but she unquestionably had more to learn about the art of evasion. "it was not planned, i simply felt the urge to be alone but i see that i have interrupted your peace, and so i must apologise." she wonders if the raven-haired beauty would inform her eldest brother of this interaction but she speaks nothing of it. as the pair didn't know each other all that well, it would not be appropriate. a smile tugs at her lips and she nods. "a pleasure to see you as well, ji-won — are you enjoying london?"

       "you are getting better at being on the run. soon you will be able to flee the country without notice, princess."   ji-won comments,  having been in the garden the entire time  -  so one could imagine how surprised she was to see her fellow royal  ...  acquaintance ?  potential friend ?  foe ?  ally ?  to be determined ?  -  run to where she too,  was taking a breather.  will push herself away from the hedges,  tilting her head to the bit.   "however, you could use some work on noticing your surroundings. it will come with time, or training, or both - worry not."   if the other wanted,  anyways.   "it is lovely to see you again, away from my palace."

Her face crinkled in thought as her eyes narrowed on her sister. "I suppose I will." Although she was thankful for the warning, she could not decipher why her sister decided to deliver it in such a manner. "I feel as though I should add that I know Altan only loves and cares for me, for us and wishes us to be safe." The only thing she could be sure of at this moment is that their brother will learn about her little adventure and she will find herself staring at his disapproving face before day's end. "They are bizarre creatures, who seem to care little for anything that does not directly benefit them," she sighed but upon meeting her sister's gaze, added a prompt, "but I am certain you will find the man you are looking for. A man who is truly worthy of you." Her smile dimmed ever so slightly at her sister's response. She often wanted to be near her family at any given time to offer her support and maintain their united front, but today she felt the desire to remain alone, without a single responsibility or facade she needed to maintain, but that did not seem to be possible. Perhaps it was naive of her to hope that her sister would allow her to remain alone. "It would be an honour, sister. I will try to hold my tongue but if someone truly odious approaches us, I cannot be held responsible for my actions."

“No—” She began as she tried to recall the last time she saw their eldest brother. Aylin had caught brief glimpses of him on his dates but hadn’t spoken to him since the morning. “But it seems to matter little … I would not be surprised to learn that he had eyes and ears everywhere.” Her expression dimmed slightly as her sister’s earnest replies more or less took the fun out of her teasing. Aylin could not even imagine the type of pressure her sister was under. The way Miray imagined her life was directly opposed to what their parents wanted for her, as they valued status and she valued love. It was certainly a tough road to navigate. “Stealing virtues … how tiresome. If they are not hunting animals, they are hunting virtues.” She muttered with a roll of her eyes. “I will try not to lose sleep over such a tragedy sister,” she chuckled in jest. “Will you return to the stalls in the hopes of enticing a gentleman?”

      The comment alone caused Miray to laugh slightly. Their older brother did tend to know the things of which they wished he did not. He knew acquaintance often fed back to him, much to Aylin’s disbelief. “I would not be so sure, from my memory, he seems to know of things he should not.” She smirked, tilting her head. “So beware what you say.” She added with a chuckle. She was doing her best to remain optimistic, especially in regards to the social season. She hopes only that a man whom shares her values comes along. “I know, it does sound rather bizarre, but I do know that men of the ton do not always care for a ladies regard.” She shrugged her shoulders softly, before placing her palms together in front of her. Her sisters comment spurred her to scrunch her face, eyes rolling in return. “If I must, but only if you accompany me.”

Evangeline's smile grew upon hearing the question, nodding eagerly. "I thought you would never ask ... and perhaps a drink? Lemonade? Or perhaps something stronger, if your day has been particularly trying?"

" I have been craving cherry scones lately, care to join me?" She had taken refuge at one of the patisserie stalls, hoping to sit and refresh before returning to her responsibilities of the ton.

evangeline nodded along, despite having a rather pleasant time with lucas. she had a talent for being indelicate but even she could recognise that this was clearly not the forum in which she could discuss her date. "are you free to explore the stalls?" she asked, however, instead of waiting for an answer she added, "i am feeling rather peckish and i loathe eating alone ... and since you will be granting me a kindness, it will be my treat."

"i do hope the ladies who were able to take part in the basket auction were sufficiently wined and dined by their respective victors.." nova mused, perhaps a little bitter that she hadn't been able to join in with the festivities. the truth was, she had wanted to submit a basket. but.. there was no way that she would feasibly be able to. the beauty struggled to put food on the table for her and her younger sister as it was, so filling a silly little basket with treats that she'd have to spend hard earned money on? it was completely out of the question.
