LP thoughts and drawings incoming, regarding Kabuto's redesign.
Brought on by this post, but everything here is stuff I've been thinking about for over a year.
Thinking about Kabuto's outfit redesign for LP; R. I'm not good at character design stuff, but having him get an outfit change from Orochimaru’s uniform to Konoha’s, and now it'll be his choice of what to wear, feels significant. I want it to work well for his character.
So far I've been thinking of dark red, saw a post earlier about how it might he his favorite color due to his cloak being red, and I have some lead in for it with the nail polish scene. It also kinda clashes with Sakura and Naruto in a way the blue of Konoha’s uniform doesn't, which was also baby Sasuke’s color. I'd like him to almost look a lil out of place.
I have also thought of green. A color for poisons and a color of healing. It's also Tsunade’s color which would signify his new allegiance, and tactically it would blend in nicely with the forests in Konoha. A dark green I think would also stand out a bit with Sakura’s bright red and white and Naruto's orange and black, while not being as odd as dark red, after all he is becoming their teammate.
Overall it's been kind of hard finding a good design and color. I might list the main color and features of his outfit and let people draw their own conclusions about what it looks like.
For fun, here are some old pictures I came up with for a design while writing Interlude, when he was initially supposed to get new clothes.

Plus one of him with Sasori.
None of these are really speaking to me now though. In order, the top left feels like a resigns of his "secret meeting with Baki" look, which is intended I loce that outfit. But it adds in the belt and gloves from his Orochimaru outfit. I ended up thinking it looked too much like a mash of former outfits to convey his new alliegence well. The top left looked too fire nation for me but I liked the idea of the inside of his jacket having pockets for scrolls. The bottom left just looked too much like a sports jersey, but I fid like the idea of his main outfit having a hood for him to hide in. None of them feel very "naruto" to me though, I struggle to picture him with team 7 in any of these.
I do like the headband hanging from his belt though. Works well to show how his loyalty to Konoha would be easily knocked away. I also adore his long gloves so I think I'll keep them.

Tattered Remains of Broken Dreams (Yours, not Mine)
This is based off a prompt I came across. It’s a one-shot. @virgil-is-a-cutie and @thyladyanput. Hope you two like lit.
The pieces were scattered across her desk. Marinette had known something was up the moment she stepped into the classroom. Everyone had gone quiet. A few had glared at her. Some had snickered. And they all watched as she walked to her desk.
Nathanial had tried to wave her down; shaking his head with sorrow in his eyes. He had gotten there a few minutes before she did.
It took her a few seconds to recognize what the torn pieces of what had been weeks of hard work.
Once she realized what it was, Marinette wondered if it made her a bad person that she wanted to smile. Because while she honestly wanted to feel bad, all she felt was a relief. Like ten tons of weight had just been lifted from her shoulders.
Marinette looked at her desk, pulled out her phone, took a picture, and then sent several texts.
Then she shrugged, tossed the mess into a nearby trashcan, and pulled out a fresh sketchbook.
The other students, the ones who had waited for a reaction, were stunned. Where were the tears? The rage? Anything?
“Don’t you care?” Alya yelled, frustrated with her ex-bestie. “Your sketchbook was destroyed.”
Marinette glanced up at her, “No. A sketchbook was destroyed. My sketchbook with all my worthwhile designs in safely locked away at my house. You all,” She looked around the classroom; memorizing every face. Lila looked particularly bewildered because she had wanted to see the Asian girl cry. “ Destroyed my school sketchbook; the one I use for school-related events designs from various classmates, plans for birthday parties, and the like.”
“But you worked so hard,” Rose said.
Mylene nodded, “You worked in it every day for months.”
“Yeah, it sucks,” Marinette shrugged. “For you.”
That got everyone’s attention.
“What do you mean for us, Dudette?” Nino asked.
Marinette sighed, “The sketchbook was filled with all the projects that were either requested by people in this room or were for people in this room. By destroying it, I can no longer do any of those projects,” She explained. “I did it in my free time. As my main work schedule is full of commission I’m actually being paid for. I don’t have time to redesign or remake those sketches. So I sent texts to Bustier, Luka, and anyone else involved that I can no longer work on their specific project.”
The other students blinked.
Marinette rolled her eyes, “That means I can’t do the costumes for the school play,” Mylene and Sabrina gasped. “No new outfits for Kitty Section.” Rose and the other members of the band got tears in their eyes. “I can’t do the set design for Nino’s next gig.” The boy in questioned paled as he had been counting on Marinette’s design skills to wow the crowd. “The new design layout for the Ladyblog is canceled.” Alya clenched her fists. “The costume for Mylene’s short film is too. I had to back out of the school fundraiser. Let the Coach know I can no longer do any banner work. Or design the new team uniforms.” Alix and Kim’s mouths dropped. “Max’s Game-Con costume is out of the question now.” Max visibly deflated. “Ivan’s mom’s gift for her birthday is out too; pity that dress was so beautiful.” Ivan gasped. “I can plan any birthday parties or make custom cakes. The charity work you wanted my help with, I can’t do. My idea for the school trip to New York city is canceled as all my contacts and trip itinerary ideas are gone. I let Bustier know that I’ll be too busy to be class president so she’ll have to assign someone else the role. The dresses for the school dance you girls requested, I can’t do anymore.” She shrugged again. “Oh well.”
“But, but, Luka!” Juleka cried, worried about how her brother will react.
Rose was crying. So was Mylene.
“Can’t you redo it,” Sabrina asked. “The drama department was counting on us.”
Marinette narrowed her eyes. Us? Sabrina nor anyone else had lifted a finger to help Marinette come up with idea for the costumes for the school play. “Afraid not. There’s not enough time; to resketch everything and then actually make it. I have to focus on the designs I’m being actually being paid for. They come first.”
Alix slammed her hands on the table, “We only did it because you were bullying Lila!”
There were nods.
“Yeah, girl,” Alya said. “We just wanted you to know what being bullied was like. We didn’t know our stuff was in there.”
“First I never bullied Lila,” Marinette said and before anyone could protest, she continued. “Second of all, I was bullied by Chloe for years, why would you think I would ever bully anyone else,” She looked directly at Nino when she asked this. Her childhood friend. His eyes widened and he looked away. “Lastly, why should I go to the trouble and take time out of my already swamped schedule to redesign projects I did for you that you destroyed. The way I see it, it’s your own fault.”
The entire class went silent again. Each mind weighing the consequences of their actions.
“Nathanial,” Marinette said. The redhead boy looked up. “You don’ t have to worry. You paid for your work; it was a commission. It will arrive on schedule; even if I have to work all night for a week to redo it.”
Nathanial’s face lit up, “Thank you, Marc’s going to love it.”
“You’re redoing his work,” Alya screeched. “That’s not fair.”
“I didn’t destroy all her hard work, so yes it is,” Nathaniel snapped back at the girl before Marinette could. “Not only that but I paid for my stuff. Something none of you have ever even offered to do.”
Some of the other students looked ashamed. It was true.
“They were custom made designs,” Marinette explained. “Any other designer would make you pay hundreds for all that works. Thousands, if it was a fully trained professional, right Adrien?”
Adrien swallowed hard. He hadn’t been involved in actively destroying the bluenette’s sketchbook but he hadn’t stopped it either. The blond nodded, “My father would charge a lot. His last custom piece was sold for five grand, and it was just a simple pants suit.”
“What about your mom, Chloe?” Marinette asked the blond who had arrived mere seconds after Marinette and had stayed by the door to watch the fireworks.
Chloe gave the class a vindictive smirk, “For the dresses for the school dance, fifteen hundred dollars apiece; more if she had to hand sow them herself. For the rest of the work, combined, may be less than twenty grand if she cut you a deal. Anyway between ten and fifteen grand when she was still at Marinette’s level. Shame.”
Marinette shook her head, “Fifteen thousand dollars of work you were going to get for free, gone.”
Most of her classmates' faces had drained of color at the price, at realization of how big of a screw up they made. They had no idea just how much work Marinette did.
Lila was seething because it would be too hard to turn this around.
“I’m sorry,” Rose rushed to say. “We’re sorry.”
“Doesn’t matter,” Marinette shrugged. “There’s nothing to do. And now that I know that there are people in this class who can’t keep their hands to themselves, all free commissions are now canceled.” Gasps filled the room. “From now on, if you want some work done; you’ll go to my website and request a consultation like all my other customers. Keep in mind, for custom designs, depending the size of the job, you’ll have to book anywhere between a month and six months in advance. Www.MDC-designs.com.”
Chloe walked to the back of the classroom and sat down next to the Bluenette, “You’re still doing my dress for the dance, though right?”
“Chloe, you did a consult a year early and paid well in advance,” Marinette smiled. “You’re dress is done. You can do your final fitting anytime.”
Miss Bustier walked into class with a smile that quickly turned to a frown at the sight of Marinette, “Oh Marinette, I was so sad when you told me you had to back out of being class president and planning the school trip and, well, so many other things. You had such wonderful ideas. How on earth you got us on the list for a tour of Stark Industries, the Gotham times, Marvel Studios, and Vogue; I’ll never know. It’s a pity that can’t happen now. All canceled, you said?” The teacher shook her head. Totally unaware of the sheer horror her words at unleashed in her students. “It’s a shame about what happened to your sketchbook. Do you have any idea what happened?”
Marinette just leaned back in her chair, “Not a clue.”
That time, she smirked.
The new few weeks were horrible for the students of Miss Bustier’s class. As they all scrambled to design, plan, and actually make/do their own projects.
Sabrina and Mylene had realized quickly they had no designing skills and were forced to tell the drama department that the promised costumes weren’t coming. Aurora, leader of the Drama club, and Marinette s friend had heard about what happened from Nathianal and spread the news to the other club members. Most were artists too and knew they would’ve died if something like that were happening. The ones that weren’t couldn’t believe they had been getting all that for free and a bunch of idiots ruined it.
Alix and Kim found themselves participating in a lot more school fundraisers to raise money for the new uniforms and to pay for all the team trips to the away games.
Luka had been disappointed in his bandmates and his sister and had threatened to go solo.
Alya was forced to do more babysitting to help pay for new website design and a dress for the dance.
Nino had no clue just how hard the set design was. And ended up nearly causing a fire at his gig.
Lila had no clue on where to start for planning a trip as fabulous as the one Bustier made Marinette’s sound.
Birthdays went without cake, had only cheap decorations from the store, and immaculate gift that had come to be expected every year.
The entire class, apart from three, felt the pressure of planning the school dance, fundraising for the field trips, affording their dresses for the dance, on top of all their other many after school activities.
No one would bother to mention just how badly their actual school work suffered; there was barely any time to study for tests or do their homework. Grades dropped. Parents were furious.
Alix nearly lost her spot on the team. Kim did lose his spot until his grades were brought back up. Alya was forced to stop her work with the Ladyblog until her grade improved. Nino’s parents forbid him from doing any more gigs. Mylene’s dad stopped her movie work altogether. Sabrina’s dad just straight up grounded his daughter so she could have time to relax and study when she had the time. Ivan’s mom actually started tutoring him. Max’s grades didn’t drop but his stress levels increased so much his parents pulled him out of all his extracurriculars.
Luka had no choice but to go solo as his bandmates rarely showed up for practice. It was fine, though, Marinette got Jagged to work with him on a demo album. In exchange for a new few new pieces of wardrobe…
For Fang.
It got so bad even the headstrong Alya burst into tears at the pressure one day. The stress was too much. Some kids found themselves constantly being late, never getting enough sleep, and were constantly worried and checking their phone just in case something went wrong And somehow something always went wrong. A few kids started having anxiety attacks. Relationships and friendship suffered as no one had time to talk or spend any time together as foretime was a rarity. Mylene and Ivan broke up. So did Nino and Alya, who got into a fight so bad in front of the school, that Nino left in tears.
Hawkmoth had a field day with it all. Until he started noticing all the akumas came from his son’s class, and that his son was looking too good either. Gabriel Agrest may be a heartless son of a bitch but he wasn’t a complete monster.
…Plus the Akumas were all worthless anyway. Most were sleep akuma who just put people to sleep. A couple was literally dedicated to forcing people to plan their days better. There was an akuma that literally made everyone around them feel less stressful. Ladybug didn’t even bother to show up defeat that one. Hawkmoth just pulled it back eventually.
Marinette watched it all; not with joy or happiness as her classmates' misery, just a sense of relief that for once it wasn’t her. Everyone noticed how Marinette was nearly never late anymore. She glowed with all the sleep she was finally making up. Her grades while never anything less than good improved dramatically. Her parents were happy their daughter was so much more relaxed and happier. It was like she was a new person.
She even found she had more time to not only design stuff for herself but actually make it. Her dress for the school dance was going to be amazing.
…If there was a school dance. With the way, things were going and the miserable looks of her ex-friends face when anyone brought it up, there was a good chance there wouldn’t be one.
A week after Marinette had that thought, the school play was canceled. Some sports teams were forced to forfeit away games due to budgeting issues; losing their number one spot.
It wasn’t long after that Rose came up to Marinette’s lunch table. Chloe and Nathaniel eyed the pixie-cut blond with suspicion.
“I’m sorry,” Rose whispered. “I didn’t know how much you did. How hard you worked. You did so much for us, and we never even realized. You must think we’re monsters.”
Marinette shook her head, “. I still don’t understand why you would do something so horrible as destroying my private property but I think don’t your monsters. Just not very good friends,” She frowned. “Not friends at all, actually”
Rose winced at the truthful words. Now that she didn’t have time to hang off Lila’s every word, it was easy to hear just how ridiculous all her stories were. She nodded, “I requested a consult on your website. Based on your prices, I think I finally enough money for an MDC original dress for the school dance.”
So someone in class could learn. Most of the class still muttered under their breaths whenever Marinette walked by. Not willing to take the blame for their own mistakes. Though she did see Alya casting her pitiful glances every now and then as if Marinette would suddenly take mercy and start doing everything for the class again.
“I’m glad to hear,” Marinette smiled. “I think you’ll look great in a lovely turquoise; really make those eyes pop.”

I redesigned Rouge!
A LOT of notes about her redesign below:
Again, much like the Cream redesign, I’d like to start with the disclaimer that I don’t hate Rouge’s current design! I think her current look is cute but I did take some issue with it here and there, and here was the checklist I had in mind when redesigning her:
Put some red on her! Her name is ROUGE
Ditch the jumpsuit. I get the impression that the “sexier” aspects of Rouge make her appear older than she is, so I wanted to try making her look more like she’s 18.
Wing arms!!! There’s nothing wrong with putting the wings on her back but I wanted to emphasize her being a bat.
Give her a new alt outfit. In Sonic Heroes, Rouge got a new outfit that was quickly retired. I wanted to give her a debut outfit and a new outfit that would stick around.
Switch out the heart motif for a diamond motif. I think the heart motif is cute! But I think making diamonds Rouge’s thing is more fitting since she loves jewels more than anything.
Rouge’s Body
The 1st reference sheet is Rouge’s bare body. She’s still got white fur, but her body is gray. I actually came to the decision to give her gray body fur last-minute; I wanted to give her a white belt in her 2nd outfit, but her white midriff made the 2 things blend and I needed some contrast. I drew (ba-dum-tssh) lots of inspiration from Honduran white bats, and thus I gave her a little bat nose and smoky colored wings (I actually wanted a more gray-ish purple wing color, but my scanner gave me this gray instead. the gray-purple is more noticeable in the other reference sheet though).
I gave her a furry body because I thought it was weird that other Sonic character’s bodies had fur and Rouge was just all skin, save for her head. She has chest fur now because I thought it made her look more like a bat and because I’m not that comfortable with an 18 year old baring visible cleavage all the time, so this hit 2 birds with one stone. I kept her arms and legs furless, again, to make her look more like a Honduran white bat. I also wanted some more body diversity within the sonic cast, so I gave Rouge a plumper body and wider legs since she usually uses her legs in combat.
I wanted to keep her skin tone similar to the one she has in Sonic Adventure 2, but I ditched the eye color. I really wanted to put some red on her somewhere since her name is Rouge, and making it her eye color means that she has red on her all the time, so I thought it was perfect. On one final note regarding her body, she’s got visible nails now! Her old, beta name before it was “Rouge” was “Nails”, and I imagine she uses her nails for digging or combat so I made them more prominent.
Rouge’s Clothes
“That Government Spy Rouge the Bat”: SA2 G.U.N. Agent Rouge
Her 1st outfit would be her outfit in her debut appearance while she’s an agent for G.U.N. I still wanted her outfit to look trendy without looking too much like a uniform as she is supposed to be an undercover agent in SA2. The decision to use a blue analogous palette was to make it look even more like a police uniform.
Her gloves are short, half gloves. With arms on her wings, obviously her opera gloves weren’t gonna fit comfortably. The cropped gloves fit more comfortably on her hands without bothering her wings.
Rouge’s uniform is a sleeveless turtleneck and a “skort”, or, shorts with a skirt on it. The skirt flap has a pocket where she stores anything that won’t fit on her utility belt.
She’s also got piercings now! I think they suit her for someone who’s obsessed with jewels.
Her boots aren’t flashy, but they’re a chunky heel with metal soles to pack a harder wallop in her kicks.
Fly in the Freedom: Post SA2 Rouge
With this design comes with a bit of a rewrite. Rouge no longer works under G.U.N., free-lancing or not. After the events of SA2, she’s quit and gone on to do her own thing (however she’s still a grade A thief).
Overall, her new post SA2 look is rather asymmetrical compared to her more uniform look in the 1st design. I thought the asymmetry would convey her new rebellious, independent status and contrast more with the uniform she sported prior to when she took order from G.U.N.
I wanted this design to look more cohesive with team dark. Her Sonic Heroes outfit made her stick out from the other team members as she had a more purple and pink color palette compared to Shadow and Omega’s red, black, and gold. For her palette, I wanted to incorporate more of those colors to really make her look like the leader of Team Dark. The reds are mostly located on her diamond motifs, and the gold on her is on any metal she’s adorning.
Her outfit includes a cropped leather jacket, dark purple-ish black form fitting pants, white knee high boots, and white leather utility belt and cropped fingerless gloves. Since she no longer has a skirt flap or pocket to store extra items, I gave a her a little fanny pack at the back of her belt. I gave her a cropped jacket to make her look a little more rebellious, seeing as her teammates are rebels of their own. The leader of an edgy team has gotta look edgy herself, I figured! The dark make up is also to help with her new, bold and edgy look.I also wanted to show off Rouge’s chest fur and the deep V neck of the jacket does that well!
I thought Rouge’s heart boots were cute, but since I’m replacing her heart motif with diamonds, I wanted to adjust it to fit the diamond motif. She’s now got diamonds at the toe of her boots as well as the sole. I made them wedge heels because I imagine they’re easier to run in.
Inventory
On her utility belt, she’s got a flip phone: good for quick contact and disposal. She also has a few pouches, probably to hold smoke bombs or something. I also wanted her to keep her treasure scope from SA2, so it’s also got a place on her belt.
Other inventory items include her compact, perfect for touching up her make up or finding pesky lasers (which is a spy trope I think? It’s probably not scientifically sound but whatever it helps her find lasers).
And of course, Rouge’s bat bomb! It functions much the same as Rouge’s bombs have throughout the series (Sonic Battle, Sonic 06, Sonic Forces: Speed Battle), I just adjusted its appearance to reflect this redesign.
I also decided while I was at it to take the guns away from Shadow and give them to Rouge; I don’t see why the ultimate life form needs a fire arm when he can shoot powerful concentrated beams of energy from his hands while the secret agent (who is more likely to be equipped with that kind of weapon) would be without it. She has her pea shooter on her leg holster concealed by her boots (Which is why I tried making her boots a bit bigger than her legs as opposed to being tight fitting).
Hair
Finally, Rouge has got some new hairstyles! For her SA2 look, I wanted to keep the trademark Yuji Uekawa spiky hair he tends to draw on his sonic characters, but I definitely wanted to change her hairstyle; I just personally wasn’t a fan of her current style. I wanted something that looked mature and chic, so I gave her a layered bob. It’s also symmetrical to fit the uniform look she’s wearing.
And Rouge gets another haircut for her post SA2 look! It’s much wavier, and she’s got bangs now. For this style, I was inspired by 1. the Finger Waves hairstyle, 2. those little curlicues that agent Honeydew has from Dexter’s Laboratory, and 3. Marilyn Monroe’s curly hair. I wanted to add some elegance to Rouge’s look and I think the curly hair really brings that aspect of her character out.
If you’ve made it to the end of all of this then like holy crap thank you so much for reading all of this and I love you

I’m at the end of my first-ever Omega Ruby run, and I’ve honestly had a great time getting to know Hoenn. I just have to evolve some Pokemon and catch the Regis and Deoxys before I move along (I’m waiting to trade with folks to finish the Dex properly, but I can do that at any point), but I think it’s worth doing a retrospective on the characters and Pokemon I met along the way.
As a region, Hoenn is unique in that it has a LOT of water routes. You spend a large portion of the second half of the game traveling via Surf. The Azumarill in my party, Pikablue, ended the game knowing Waterfall, Surf, and Dive (it also carries Play Rough), and it was one of the most crucial members of my party for transport purposes.
When I won the Hoenn League, the team May (named ‘Hatshepsut’ in my playthrough because we love cool historical figures in this house) had with her was her evolved starter, a Blaziken named Cluck You, along with Pikablue the Azumarill, Pangaea the Groudon, Charles II the Shiftry, Friendo the Latios, and the team anchor, Bastet the overleveled Skitty. I beat Steven because Bastet dodged a Zen Headbutt from Metagross and gave me the time I needed to revive both Blaziken and Groudon in the back, and their fire moves handled the rest. Bastet went on to become the first party member to reach level 100, way ahead of everyone else. She was absolutely incredible and I love her. Her final moveset: Heal Bell (surprisingly useful, especially in Doubles), Thunder, Ice Beam, and Play Rough. She’s a Dragon Slayer.
As soon as I got my hands on the Eon Flute I started running around to check every Mirage location that came up in the hopes that it would be a Mirage Cave. I knew that was where Tynamo was, and I needed Eelektross to complete the Submas team I was building (the other nine members are in SwSh at the moment; Eelektross will hopefully someday join them). On November 30th, my persistence paid off, and I went and caught three Tynamos so I could have the entire evolutionary line in my National Dex in Pokemon HOME. As it turns out, Eelektross still hasn’t been added to HOME because Third Rail has become a vital member of my party in postgame and I love him and he loves me. (I’m just Emmet, really.) The Eon Flute is also really nice in that using it allows you to literally fly in real time over the entire region, and I prefer doing that to using Fly because it’s just so aesthetically nice. Friendo just swoops down and picks me up, and we have a nice time exploring together. It’s especially pretty at night when everything is all lit up. It’s a lovely little feature exclusive to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and it’s so great.
Character-wise, Hoenn has produced some notables. Magma and Aqua are two of the most beloved villain teams in the entire franchise, and the reboots gave them so much more personality and gave the leaders and admins some excellent updated designs. (Years ago, when the remakes were first released, my dash was filled to the brim with Hardenshipping.) I had OR, so I had Magma to contend with, and one of the single most entertaining things in the entire game is Maxie’s losing animation. It’s perfect, it suits his character so well, and it’s just really funny. Also, shout-out to the Team Magma grunt that I met in the Extremely Obvious Hideout who told me how proud he was of kicking his soda habit whilst standing next to the vending machines. I love that guy. In terms of reformation, Magma and Aqua come around very easily when they realize that they’ve had a very bad idea - they ultimately were well-intentioned but made a really horrible mistake and set out to set things right (with the player’s help, of course). It ultimately makes both teams very likeable.
In terms of other characters, not every Gym Leader from Hoenn is a complete standout, but a few are very, very popular. Flannery is a perfect time capsule of 2003 fashion and I love that so much, and I don’t think I need to say much about Wallace. He’s just Wallace. He’s so freaking entertaining. Steven is also a very popular Champion, and he plays a pretty big role in the plot, so you see a lot of him throughout the game. (He and Wallace are also a very popular ship, with Originshipping - named for the Cave of Origin which Wallace has to grant you access to - actually being referenced in Pokemon Masters on, of all days, Valentine’s Day. Make of this what you will, but I’m here for it.) The Gym Leaders all received redesigns as well, with a lot of them benefiting greatly from it - I like Roxanne’s new school uniform so much better than her old one, for example, and once again, Wallace outshines everyone with an ensemble that would go wonderfully at the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. I wish we got to know the Gym Leaders a bit more as people, because they don’t get to stand out as characters as much. Galar actually did this very well by allowing us a lot of interactions with the Leaders outside the Gyms and as teammates and rivals in the Galarian Star Tournament. A big part of the reason Wallace is so popular as a Gym Leader here is that you see him outside the Gym multiple times and can even compete with him in Contests. You get to know him as a person more and not just as the eighth Gym Leader, and it makes him a much more interesting character.
In short, here’s how the League stacks up for me:
Roxanne: Benefited massively from her character redesign, which gives her a lot more personality. Would like to see her and Steven interact since they’re apparently friends, which I imagine revolves around going out and licking rocks together or whatever geologists do with their geologist friends.
Brawly: He still isn’t very distinct. He’s a surfer who trains Fighting-types, which is a bit of a subversion since you’d expect Water-types from someone like that, but nothing about him really pops for me.
Wattson: Gives off Grandpa Vibes. Wattson actually gets a lot of expository development via his work on New Mauville and Sea Mauville, where you find out he halted the projects to protect the Pokemon ecosystems in both locations. A lot of employees were angry about this and he was even investigated briefly for stopping the projects, even being called a traitor to the company (which appeared to overwork its employees and prevent them from unionizing), but it was apparently evidently clear that he did things out of environmental concerns, and the employees were able to find work on other projects elsewhere. This actually slots nicely into the themes of the game involving environmentalism and how to ensure the livelihoods of people and nature both.
Flannery: Time capsule from 2003! I was, of course, around in 2003 (I turned 14), and Flannery was at the peak of fashion back then. Flares were in, and I miss that trend so much. For that alone, she’s one of my favorite Gym Leaders in this generation, but I also appreciate that she’s shown trying to find her footing and figure out who she is instead of pretending to be someone else. There’s a certain performative aspect to being a Gym Leader, but it needs to come naturally from them and be an extension of their own personality, not be artificial. I would, however, love to know who her grandfather is. It’s still never been confirmed. (As a side note, a lot of people headcanon her to be Kabu’s niece, since he’s from Hoenn, which is cute.)
Norman: A Dad. More specifically, the player character’s dad. There’s really nothing that stands out about him except for that damn Slaking, which gives a lot of people trouble. I did, however, appreciate the conversation he had with Wally’s father as Wally and the player character departed together, because I’m actually pretty close to my own father (who I’m very similar to in many aspects). I’m 31 years old and I still get emotional every time my parents tell me they’re proud of me. Notably, Norman is the only player character father we have ever seen in Pokemon, though, which is odd.
Winona: In-game, she doesn’t feel like she has much of a personality, although she goes off on aesthetics pretty well. It just weirds me out that that’s her hair coming out from under the helmet and not wings attached to it. She could have been really cool but she gets the short end of the development stick.
Tate and Liza: The two of them intentionally playing up the ‘weird twins’ angle by completing each other’s sentences actually comes across really cutely because they’re kids. You can also run into them in the Lilycove Department Store being children and buying toys, a good reminder that they’re still very young and evidently very skilled for their ages. Battle-wise, my Azumarill knew Surf by this point so I ended things quickly because I’m into Doubles as it is and like using spread moves when I can.
Wallace: I’ve discussed him a lot above, so I don’t need to say much else, but he really is the most notable Gym Leader in the region, and not just because he’s the last one you face. He has a lot of personality and development, you meet him outside the Gym several times, his niece Lisia is also out and about in the game and the family resemblance is notable, and you find an old magazine in Sea Mauville featuring a woman on the cover who looks like Lisia - likely Wallace’s older sister, Lisia’s mother. The entire family gets more development than a lot of the other Gym Leaders in this region.
Sidney: The first member of the Elite Four you face...I’d actually like to know more about him. He seems like an interesting person, and I personally enjoy Dark-types myself so I always appreciate seeing Dark-type users not being portrayed as evil. His upbeat nature is nice, and it’s a pleasant surprise to run into him at the Battle Resort, even if he was only there to track down Steven.
Phoebe: I love how much her appearance contrasts with her Pokemon typing. She’s a Ghost-type trainer and you’d never guess that from her outfit! Her grandmother is the old woman on Mt. Pyre, which is why Phoebe has an affinity for Ghost-Types, and I’d love to see more interactions involving them together. You can run into Phoebe on Mt. Pyre after you beat the League and talk to her briefly - she was likely visiting her grandmother - but sadly she doesn’t get much development outside of that.
Glacia: An Ice-type trainer who we learn next to nothing about. Glacia is mentioned outside of the context of the Elite Four by an NPC in the Mauville Food Court who says she was slurping down ramen so intensely that she broke a sweat, but that’s all we know about her aside from that she’s originally from a different region, and she tells us that herself. Not very memorable.
Drake: Yet another Dragon trainer late in the game, and not one of the more notable ones. Lance and Clair are remembered for being cousins and for being the first Dragon trainers you really come across in the series, and later Dragon-type trainers like Iris (who becomes Champion of Unova in B2W2) and Raihan are carried by their personalities and distinct looks. Drake is just an old sea captain with Dragon-types, and he doesn’t really jump out at me much either.
Steven: A major player in the plot - one of the most active Champions we’ve had in the franchise - and a perpetually popular character. I never minded running into Steven out and about in Hoenn, even if it meant I’d have to listen to an infodump about rocks, and his Champion battle was actually fairly difficult for the team I brought in despite having two team members with Fire-type attacks to handle the Steel. As I mentioned above, it was my Skitty that made the decisive dodge to allow me to bring in the team member I needed to deliver the final blow, meaning this is now the second time in my life I’ve beaten the Champion with an unevolved house cat. (Rick Pratt the Purrloin is a vital member of my beloved Young Ones Galar Championship Team.) Overall, Steven’s a very likeable Champion, and I did enjoy the little detail of the rocks on display in his home - he has them labeled so you can see where he found them, and they’re from every region featured in the games up to that point.
Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire also have the Delta Episode, which features Rayquaza (which you’re forced to catch) and a character named Zinnia, who isn’t in RSE at all and is new to ORAS. Besides being named after my favorite flower, Zinnia’s personality is actually very interesting because although she comes across as cheery it’s clear she feels the weight of a massive responsibility and that the cheeriness is covering a lot of pain. Her Whismur named Aster is evidently named after someone important to her who is no longer around, and it’s never revealed in-game who the original Aster was. Whoever Aster was, though, Zinnia misses her deeply. In a 2015 interview, Ohmori Shigeru stated that the original Aster was the person who held the position of Lorekeeper before Zinnia, but we don’t know anything more than that - a shame, really, because that makes for some interesting backstory.
Overall, I had a lovely time in Hoenn, and I’ll be moving on to Kalos in the next few weeks once I finish up this Dex business first. I just wish I got to get to know so many of the characters I’ve met a little better, but I adore the team I put together and I’m super proud of them and all they’ve accomplished.

Just to See You Smile--Ochako’s Story (3): Team Battles
This… can’t be right.
Ochaco’s face was absolutely burning as she stared at what she’d taken out of the suitcase. I said space-themed heroes! A spacesuit! Like Thirteen!
“Yo, Ura, what’s taking so long?” The dangle-eared girl (Jiro?) called over at her. “C’mon! Teach is gonna be upset if you’re not out there in time.”
“Right, right…” Ura bit her lip, still looking at the costume. Perhaps it stretched, but it still seemed far FAR too small. This sort of thing couldn’t be practical for hero work. It’d be like wearing a swimsuit! People would be staring at her…
There was no help for it. Sighing, she started to slip out of her uniform. Is my bra even going to fit in this thing?
#
It did, and even seemed to hide the outline relatively well, but Ochaco kept tugging different sections, hoping to loosen it up, so it was impossible to be sure. Are they looking? Are they looking? They probably think I’m one of those heroes like Mt Lady or something! Oh my word why didn’t I just say I wanted a space-suit!?
“Are you uncomfortable?”
Ochaco looked up and saw cleavage. She blinked. “Um…”
“Is it your costume?” the supermodel girl, Momo, asked. “Did they not make it to your specifications? They don’t allow for complete redesigns, but you could probably get it resized.”
“Uh… well, I didn’t offer many specifications, really…” Ochaco said, tugging under her armpit. “I guess I just thought… I figured they’d choose something practical.”
Momo snorted. “Oh yes,” she said, “it seems support courses are full of people who prefer to take ‘creative licenses.’ They left this with my costume.” She showed Ochaco a note.
Momo Yaoyorozu. We reviewed your request for an open costume with exposed skin and came up with this. It’s not quite like your original design, but we think you’ll agree that it’s cooler and sexier.
Ochaco blinked at the note. “…huh.”
“I didn’t give them many specifications, but I noted that the back and midriff seemed like logical spaces to leave open for the creation of large items.” Momo gestured at her front distastefully. “How do they expect me to move in this?”
Ochaco had to agree with that point. In fact, looking about at the other kids, Ochaco felt a bit better about her own outlandish costume. Even the boys—one was topless, and another had a skin-tight bright yellow costume, like an overmuscled banana. Iida’s armor at least looked practical, but the French boy was almost painful to look at, and Bakugo had some bizarre orange-and-black hair pieces that she couldn’t begin to guess the point of.
The whole thing seemed more than a little ridiculous, like wearing a clown costume to a war zone. Izuku, she noticed, as the boy ran out to join the others, had chosen a much more sensible outfit—not much more complicated than a hooded jumpsuit. “That’s a great costume, Deku!” she grinned at him. “Really down to earth.”
Izuku rubbed the back of his head. “It… my mom made it,” he admitted. “Yours looks really… nice.”
That was a relief, at any rate. Ochaco turned, just in time to see All Might give Izuku a very strange look. It quickly vanished, though. “All right!” the pro hero called. “Today, we are doing team battles!”
#
She watched as Izuku was carried off in a stretcher by the robots. He really needs to do something about that quirk, she thought. They’d won (Iida was sitting, crushed with shame, next to her, Bakugo fuming on the other side of him), but it’d been down to the wire.
After getting their score and evaluation (Ochaco felt irritated at Momo calling her attack “haphazard”, but she couldn’t actually disagree), it was time to watch the others.
Mina skipped close to her. “Excited to watch Shoto’s match?” she whispered.
“What? Why do you ask?” Ochaco looked at her.
Mina giggled. “All the girls are. Well, I guess Toru’s in the match against him, but it should…”
“MATCH OVER! HEROES WIN!”
Both their heads went up, just in time to see the building ice over.
Ochaco blinked. “That was fast.”
“Awww…” Mina pouted. “Oh well. You’re up, Kirishima! She gave the grinning red-head a high five. “Knock ‘em dead!”
“That’s the idea! We’re the villains!” Kirishima smiled, moving out the door.
“I told you we know each other from middle school, right?” Mina said. “He’s really great.” She leaned in closer and whispered, “anyway, don’t listen to Momo, I thought you did amazing against Iida!”
“I shouldn’t have laughed, though, she was right about that.” Ochaco smiled at Mina. “I feel like I should be taking this stuff more seriously, really; it all seems like one big game sometimes.”
“Eh, we’re in high school.” Mina waved. “You need to have fun in high school. I mean, once we start doing internships and stuff, sure, but at school you gotta take a moment to crack up now and then.” She leaned back, interlacing her fingers behind her head.
“You and Midoriya work really well together, Ochaco-chan,” a voice said. Ochaco actually had to look down to find the speaker—the frog girl was crouching low on the floor, squatting on her haunches. “Most people would have been only focused on their own fight. You two were coordinating back and forth. Ribbit.”
Ribbit? Ochaco shrugged it off. “Deku set up the teamwork, I just took advantage of his attack.”
“You took advantage of it quickly.” Frog-girl said, stroking her own cheek. “That’s just as much part of teamwork as anything.”
“Dude. Midoriya was a beast.” The yellow-haired blonde grinned. “Dodging all around those blasts…!”
“All Might really should have called off the match,” said the frog girl. Her tone wasn’t accusatory or wondering. It was calm, observant.
“Was it that dangerous?” Ochaco looked at the others.
It had all been too fast to think. One moment, they were running through the building, then suddenly Deku had tackled her, just in time to dodge the explosion. They’d hit the ground hard, the heat had washed over them, and then Deku was pulling her to her feet by the arm, shouting at her to go-- Run on ahead, Uraraka, don’t worry about me! That last image of the scrawny boy standing between her and the maniacally grinning Bakugo had haunted her all the way up the elevator shaft. She had kept telling herself to stick to the plan, to trust that Deku knew what he was doing…
She swallowed. “He’d… Midoriya said Bakugo would focus on him… so we thought we should split up…”
“That was the right call.” Frog-girl nodded again. “Bakugo seems too nimble to effectively gang up on. You would have been in the way.”
It was a bald, tactless statement, and Ochaco blinked at the strange girl. She saw some of the others looking too—but no one disagreeing. Apparently the girl had only said what the others were thinking. But the girl herself hadn’t even looked away from the screens. “Kirishima and Sero seem to do well together.”
Ochaco hadn’t really been watching the screens. It looked like Kirishima was taking on the kid in the yellow muscle outfit, while the tape-boy (Sero?) had already ensnared the flocks of birds trying to attack the bomb.
“Playing to their strengths while retaining independence,” the girl mused. “It’s a flexible strategy, but could be exploited by a more coordinated team like yours. Too bad it looks like Sato and Koji aren’t that sort of team.”
Sato. Koji. Sero. Ochaco repeated the names in her head. People liked it when you remembered their names, but it took a bit of work. “You’re… taking this pretty seriously.”
“Ribbit? Am I?” The girl’s large eyes blinked over toward her for a moment. “I guess I don’t really know the difference. Tokoyami and I are going up pretty quickly.”
“Kirishima and Sero are really well suited to defense.” A bird-faced boy seemed to materialize out of the darkness. “A devious stratagem, to use the tape as a net like that.”
“Sato could have charged right through them. If Koji could’ve distracted Kirishima…”
Ocahaco felt her attention slipping as the others began analyzing the attack strategy of the boys on the screen. She should be focused, she knew, she should be paying attention, like the others were, but she couldn’t help it.
It was weird, but she kept feeling it—the firm pressure of arms grabbing her around the waist, pulling her clear of the heat of the explosion. Surprisingly firm arms.
#
To Ochaco’s surprise, Deku disappeared soon after class. Everyone wanted to talk to him about his amazing battle, the way he’d dodged Bakugo, all sorts of things that Ochaco had had no idea about, but he excused himself nearly immediately. It was a pity, because the others had all decided to grab an after-school snack together.
“A mochii cake? Is that all you’re getting, Uraraka?” The blonde boy (Kaminari, Ochaco reminded herself.) looked at her.
“Um…” Ochaco hadn’t expected anyone to really notice. “…yeah. I’m… um… I’m on a diet.”
“Ah, right, that makes sense.” Kaminari nodded.
The earlets girl (Jiro) smacked him. “You’re not supposed to agree, moron.”
“Wait, I’m not?” Kaminari looked confused.
Jiro gestured. “Does she look like she needs to go on a diet?”
“Well no, but…”
Ochaco felt relief as the table started arguing about how to respond to diets. At least they’d forgotten about her meal plans. The mochii cake was honestly a bit extravagant, but after a look at the school’s lunch plan, Ochaco felt she could splurge a bit—UA had a remarkably affordable cafeteria. Probably due to Lunch Rush’s quirk… She shook the ungrateful thought away.
“You have quite a formidable quirk, Uraraka,” said a voice.
Ochaco turned. “Ah! Thank you…” she struggled to remember the tail-boy’s name.
“Ojiro.” The quiet teen did not seem put off at being forgotten. “Mashirao Ojiro. Does your quirk run in the family?”
“Ah… no.” Ochaco swallowed. “No, my parents are… there’s not a quirk like that anywhere in the family. It’s a mutation.”
Ojiro nodded. “How do you come up with your moves, then? I’ve never heard of a quirk like it; there must not be a lot of examples for you to study.”
Ochaco shrugged. “I don’t really… come up with moves, I guess. I just use it for whatever seems handy at the moment.”
“You improvise, then,” Ojiro said.
“…yeah, that sounds right.” Ochaco nodded. “I mean, I’m always looking for ideas—when we figured out my quirk actually was I started reading up on space and gravity and stuff so I know how to use it. But I haven’t really thought of any combat applications.”
“It’s impressive that you’re able to react that quickly,” Ojiro took a drink of water. “I needed to practice a great deal before my reflexes were fast enough to use my quirk effectively.”
“What is your quirk, anyway?” Ochaco asked. She’d wondered if there was more than the obvious to this boy.
“It’s just the tail.” Ojiro smiled. “That’s all it is.”
“…oh.” Ochaco wasn’t quite sure what to say. “That’s… wow.” She blinked as the full implications hit her. “Wait, so you smashed your way through the placement exam like that?” She stared at him. “You… must train a LOT.”
“…I do.”Ojiro seemed to preen, just a little, before quickly re-composing himself. “Many heroes do. It’s not that unusual. Midoriya, I’m sure, must train extensively—he was able to fight Bakugo with almost no quirk at all.” His face fell. “Certainly he fared much better than I did against Shoto.”
“Oh, but that was…”Ochaco realized she had nothing to finish the sentence. “…I mean, you couldn’t have…”
“We were outclassed, yes.” Ojiro nodded. “Hard work cannot always overcome raw power or an impressive quirk.” He played around with his glass. “Good to keep in mind.”
Ochaco looked at him for a moment more, then let her head rest against the table with a sigh.
“Something wrong?” She heard him ask.
“It’s just…” Ochaco waved. “People here are analyzing and practicing and have names and costumes and moves all thought out and I… just…” she gestured. “I mean, I didn’t even have a good idea for my costume. I feel like…” she laughed, sitting up. “…I feel I’m just not on the same level with you guys.”
“If you’re here, then you are,” Ojiro said. He smiled, almost to himself. “I suppose I should keep that in mind myself—second-guessing whether one is ‘good enough’ to be here isn’t a judgment one can make.” He nodded. “In a way, the school accepted us not even because of who we are, but who we could become.” The nodding grew more pronounced. “That’s a very good point. Thank you, Ochaco.”
Ochaco was confused. “I didn’t…”
“That makes me feel much better.” Ojiro drained the rest of his water. He looked at her with a smile. “I don’t usually talk this much to people I’ve only just met. You’re a very easy person to talk to.” He leaned closer. “For what it’s worth, I didn’t put a lot of thought into my costume either, I just asked for somethin that would give me a lot of freedom to move.”
Ochaco blinked. I wonder what costume I would’ve gotten if I’d put that down.

Rob Liefeld’s Most Controversial Comics Titles
Rob Liefeld recently announced that his Extreme Studio line of comics had been optioned as a possible movie universe by Graham King and Fundamental Films, a deal that reportedly includes up to 9 different titles. With the recent success of “Deadpool,” another one of Liefeld’s creations, it seems like Hollywood might be about to get a Liefeld makeover.
RELATED: Grant Morrison’s Most Controversial Stories
This may or may not be good news. Liefeld rose to popularity in the late ’80s and early ’90s, becoming one of Marvel’s most popular artists. He would later go on to help form Image Comics, home of “Spawn” and “The Walking Dead.” Liefeld is a controversial figure in the industry, however. His art and writing style have been heavily criticized. As a comic book creator, he has been just as successful as he is notorious. Here are some of his most controversial hits.
DEADPOOL
Wade Wilson, the merc with the mouth, first appeared in “The New Mutants” #98, by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza. After becoming a recurring character in “X-Force” and starring in a couple of miniseries, a “Deadpool” ongoing series was launched in 1997. Eventually, he would go on to become one of Marvel’s most popular and recognizable characters. Of course, many people felt he was so recognizable because he was so similar to another popular DC Comics character.
Deadpool bore a striking resemblance to Deathstroke, a “Teen Titans” villain. Even Deadpool’s real name, Wade Wilson, is a play on Deathstroke’s real name, Slade Wilson. While many argued that Deadpool was a rip off, not just of Deathstroke, but also other characters like Spider-man and Wolverine, many other fans argued that Liefeld was clearly just inspired by these other characters and that Deadpool had grown into a unique character all of his own, anyway. Many of the character’s key traits, like his sense of humor and breaking of the fourth wall, were completely unique to him. Regardless of his origins, Deadpool is clearly one of Liefeld’s most successful creations.
AVENGELYNE
When Liefeld was helping to form Image Comics, he also created a separate studio to publish ideas that didn’t fit under the Image umbrella. This studio was known as Maximum Press and it was home to “Avengelyne.” A warrior angel who had been banished from Heaven, Avengelyne fought the forces of evil and Hell itself. Her battles on Earth were all in preparation for the final war which would signal the Biblical apocalypse.
When people complain about Liefeld, they often use art from Avengelyne as an example. Critics complain both about the objectification of women and the bizarre anatomy of Liefeld’s female figures. Also, there was a scene in an Avengelyne story, “The Godyssey,” where a crucified Jesus jumps down from the cross and then battles a bunch of Olympic gods. Scenes like this divided fans, with many debating whether this was the good or bad kind of over-the-top comic book silliness. Recently, it was reported that Paramount picked up the rights to Avengelyne, so clearly the character still has her fans to this day.
HEROES REBORN: AVENGERS
During the mid-1990s, Marvel attempted to boost sales by outsourcing some of their most popular characters to independent comic book studios belonging to Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld. Liefeld took over “Avengers,” plotting and penciling the book, while Jim Valentino handled the scripts. The new book reimagined the team for modern times. This time, Captain America led the heroes on a mission where they discovered and awakened an ancient Thor frozen in a block of ice. Also, this team’s Hawkeye wore a full face mask, with there being hints that it wasn’t Clint Barton underneath the mask, but this plotline was never resolved.
The first issues were hugely successful, sales wise, but critics complained about Liefeld’s art and storytelling and many of the character updates weren’t appreciated. Even worse, this was Liefeld’s return to Marvel after abandoning the company to form Image. This move seemingly strained his relationship with other Image creators. While all of the parties involved tell different stories, not long after “Avengers” was released, Liefeld and Image parted ways.
HEROES REBORN: CAPTAIN AMERICA
Along with “Avengers,” Liefeld took over plot and artwork duties on “Captain America,” this time being joined by Jeph Loeb for scripting. Unlike the mainstream Captain America, this Steve Rogers was never frozen in ice towards the end of World War II. Instead, he was a sleeper government agent, who was placed in an out of suspended animation between missions for the government. Rogers eventually uncovered the truth of his existence and became Captain America full time.
Once again, there were a lot of complaints about the updated origin, but it is worth noting how similar it is to the Winter Soldier’s story, which was embraced much more favorably. There were also complaints about Cap’s “modern redesign,” which was the classic uniform, except there was an eagle on his mask instead of an A. Liefeld was initially hired to write at least 12 issues of both of his “Heroes Reborn” titles, but after sales began to dip, Marvel tried to negotiate the contract, causing Liefeld to leave his books after about six issues each. This early departure would lead to one of the most controversial moments of Liefeld’s career.
FIGHTING AMERICAN
Back in the 1950s, Joe Simon and Jack Kirby were unhappy with the current state of “Captain America” comics, so they created a new politically charged character, “Fighting American.” He would eventually become a satire of superhero books, and then fade into obscurity. When Liefeld left “Captain America” earlier than expected, he still had some stories left to tell. He contacted Joe Simon and Jack Kirby’s estate, and after some negotiations and an attempt at creating a third character named “Agent America,” he was eventually able to negotiate a deal to license “Fighting American.” Obviously, Marvel wasn’t thrilled.
Since Liefeld planned on using pages he created for “Captain America” for a different book, Marvel sued. One of the most interesting aspects of the resulting trial was a decision made about Fighting American’s shield, which he did not acquire until Liefeld took over the character. It was eventually decided that it “Fighting American” could be released, with shield in hand, as long as he never threw it.
YOUNGBLOOD
During the late ’80s and early ’90s, some of the comics industry’s most popular creators were upset that because they were doing “work for hire,” they didn’t own their creations. This led to a mass exodus from the major companies and the formation of Image Comics. Rob Liefeld helped lead the charge and his new superhero team book “Youngblood” was the company’s very first release. It was a massive success and, at the time of the release, it became the highest selling independent comic book ever.
Despite the success, “Youngblood” suffered from poor reviews and, even worse, an unpredictable production schedule. Liefeld would eventually blame the book’s scripter, Hank Kanalz, for the story problems and fire him. Fellow comic book writer Peter David would later use this as an example of Liefeld passing the blame for the book’s issues. Despite all of this, “Youngblood” is still considered one of the most impactful comics ever. Its success changed the independent comic book industry and helped cement Image Comics as a true competitor in the industry.
CABLE
Growing up in a dystopian future ruled by the tyrannical Apocalypse, Cable ended up traveling to past, where he tries to build a better future. First appearing in “New Mutants” #87, by Louise Simonson and Rob Liefeld, he quickly became one of the most popular “X-Men” characters of the time period. He was also, for some, one of the most prominent examples of everything that was wrong with comics at the time.
In “Kingdom Come,” a character named Magog appears, and according to artist Alex Ross, he was a response and criticism of the design of Cable. Ross hated how Cable’s design seemed to just be a mash-up of too many overused concepts. In his mind, the combination of facial scarring, the metal arm, the glowing eye, and the over abundance of guns perfectly exemplified the flaws with ’90s comics. Criticisms like this really drove the point home that Liefeld was part of a movement in comics that took them away from their classic roots and that not every fellow creator was on board.
TEEN TITANS
Liefeld often credited “The Teen Titans” as the inspiration for “Youngblood.” According to him, the original idea was actually a Teen Titans story that he had pitched to DC, but was unable to get made. Liefeld finally got to work on “Teen Titans” for a two issue story arc in late 2005, working with Gail Simone. The story was notable for featuring the characters Hawk and Dove, who were the stars of Liefeld’s first published mainstream comic book work.
This run was also notable among critics of Liefeld. The majority of criticisms about his art style will feature multiple examples from these two issues. Even people who hate Liefeld’s art have to admit that some good came from it with these issues. According to Liefeld, he donated the art from one of the issues to an auction that was benefiting the victims of Hurricane Katrina. So even if Wonder Girl does look a little weird in certain frames, and all of the Teen Titans look like grown ups, it’s probably excusable this time.
BLOODSTRIKE
While still working with Image Comics, Liefeld launched a second superhero team book called “Bloodstrike.” This was a team of deceased soldiers and special ops agents who had been resurrected by the government. Each team member needed continued treatment to stay alive, which would be withheld if they refused a mission. Eventually, the book shifted focus to just one character who took on the name Bloodstrike.
The series was infamous for printing a flash forward issue #25 after issue #10 was released, as part of a gimmick to show where things would be at the end of issue #24. Unfortunately, the series came to an end with issue #22, leaving the 25th issue as an awkward reminder of how gimmicks don’t always work out. Recently, “Bloodstrike” was included as part of the deal between Liefeld, Graham King and Fundamental Films, who are looking to develop a movie universe based on Liefeld’s Extreme comics line.
NEW 52 DEATHSTROKE
After the events of “Flashpoint,” DC rebooted their universe in what’s referred to as the “New 52.” This resulted in the majority of their characters receiving updated origins, although to varying degrees. Some characters, like Green Lantern, were hardly altered by the new continuity, while characters like Superman were heavily modified. Liefeld had a brief run “Deathstroke” and got the opportunity to update Slade’s origin story.
Liefeld actually stayed fairly close to the origin depicted in “The Judas Contract,” by Marv Wolfman and George Perez. The problem that some fans had was that it was a little too similar to the original, in the sense that many of the panels looked like they were just redrawn from the original art. “Swiping” is a controversial practice where one artist will copy or trace another artist’s work, and Liefeld has been accused of this many times, although he has always either denied the allegations or defended some occurrences as being homages.
SHATTERSTAR
First appearing in “The New Mutants” #99, by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, Shatterstar is often considered the epitome of a Rob Liefeld character design, with his giant face guard, gigantic pony tail and double-bladed sword. Born on Mojoworld, Shatterstar was genetically engineered from his gestation chamber to have enhanced physical abilities so that he could fight as a gladiator. He joined a rebellion and eventually made his way to Earth where he encountered Cable. He joined X-Force and has been involved with the X-Men world ever since.
Later writers would eventually have Shatterstar come out as gay and enter into a relationship with fellow team member, Rictor. While fans were relatively supportive of this development, Liefeld was against it. He didn’t seem to have a problem with homosexuality, however, so much as that he just didn’t create the character to be gay and didn’t believe that the revelation was true to the character’s origins as an “asexual person.”
SUPREME
First appearing in “Youngblood” #3, Supreme was Liefeld’s answer to Superman. Initially, the character was a violent take on the DC icon, who was more arrogant than the classic Clark Kent. He probably would’ve faded into obscurity if not for the fact that Liefeld was eventually able to bring Alan Moore on board to write “Supreme.” Moore, famous for classic comics like “Watchmen,” “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen,” and many others, revamped the book and made it an homage to silver age Superman stories.
Moore basically took over the book and created a brand new version of Supreme, and Moore’s writing on the book earned an Eisner award in 1997. At that time, however, “Supreme” was being published by Liefeld’s Awesome Comics company, which was going out of business. Moore was working on a six-issue “Supreme” miniseries at the time and the final script was written but never produced. To make matters worse, reprints of the fifth issue had the words “the end” added to the final page, despite it clearly not being the end of the story. It took until 2011 for Liefeld to finally get Moore’s final script produced, with art chores handled by Erik Larson.
ONSLAUGHT REBORN
A decade after Marvel’s “Onslaught” and “Heroes Reborn” events, the company decided to revisit these characters in “Onslaught Reborn,” by Jeph Loeb and Rob Liefeld. The series picked up after the events of “House of M” and “Civil War,” where Scarlet Witch de-powered most of the Earth’s mutants and then its heroes fought each other over the registration act. These events awakened Onslaught, who immediately seeks revenge against Franklin Richards.
Franklin flees Onslaught and ends up traveling to the “Heroes Reborn” Earth, which is populated with duplicates of the Marvel heroes, who have no idea who Franklin or Onslaught are. Onslaught begins possessing heroes like Hulk and Thor and has them fight each other. Eventually, Franklin is sent home and Onslaught is blasted into the Negative Zone along with Ricky Barnes, the “Heroes Reborn” version of Bucky. This series received poor reviews, and despite being reborn, Onslaught only made one more appearance in the mainstream Marvel Universe before once again fading into obscurity.
SHRINK!
While Liefeld’s art isn’t known for subtlety, this takes the cake. “Shrink!” was a webcomic that the artist briefly dabbled with, and the results speak for themselves. The strip features a group of superheroes and villains visiting a shrink and explaining their problems to her. For example, a man made out of fire complains that he just gets “pretty hot under the collar sometimes.” Obviously, humor is subjective, and it’s pretty clear that Liefeld was going for some pretty simple jokes.
What makes “Shrink!” stand out, however, is that it was at one point going to be a movie starring Jennifer Lopez. Her production company bought the film rights back in 2002, although nothing ever came out of it. The idea of a psychiatrist treating heroes sounds like it could make for a fun movie, but maybe Jennifer Lopez got cold feet when she realized that she might have to listen to a tiny man with a huge bulge in his pants brag about not having any “shortcomings.”
THE INFINITE
Liefeld teamed up with another one of Image Comic’s most famous creators, Robert Kirkman, for “The Infinite.” A freedom fighter from the future travels to his past and teams up with his younger self to try to prevent the world-shattering war with The Infinite. The first four issues were released, and solicitations had been released up to issue #8. Unfortunately, issue #5 was delayed, and ultimately never saw release. Eventually, it was revealed that Kirkman and Liefeld were having creative differences over the art of the series, which would ultimately lead to its early demise.
According to Liefeld, Kirkman didn’t like one of the inkers that was working on issue #5. Apparently, Liefeld really liked the results and wasn’t a fan of having to redo segments of the book. Since the book never saw release, it’s not clear which inker Kirkman allegedly had an issue with. Either way, the series ended before any of the plotlines could even begin to be resolved, and it’s unlikely that it’ll ever be completed.

3d architectural rendering services
Tripolystudio 3d architectural visualization offer you an opportunity to steer through your home before it’s even built!
There are not any better ways to see and have a “feel” of your the designs than to see it digitally.
3d architectural renderings services are images generated by a computer employing a three-dimensional modeling software for presentation purposes.Rather than imagining your dream house, you’ll slowly watch it come to life through 3D architectural renderings services in india that massive wall could look better in Venetian stucco finish or even aluminum/wood sidings with large fixed glass window panels. or even you’ll hang a portrait of you and your dog right there near the front room for everybody to see! 3D architectural visualizations have always given the designers and their clients a superb and realistic preview of their designs.
The creation of computer-generated three-dimensional objects started round the 1970’s but, rather than renderings, they produced wireframe objects. Some years later, because the hardware and software improved, the developers were ready to control the wireframe objects and move them in any direction. They added perspectives which gave workspaces their “vanishing points” which created depth to the 3D objects. Soon after, came colored faces on the wireframes, then, shading and lighting, then, textures.
Developers made software specifically for architectural design development and pre-visualization, 3D architectural model presentations, animated presentations, and construction plan production. If there’s anything the client wants to vary , the architect could even as easily sit down ahead of his computer, redesign, and re-render.
In order to efficiently deliver their beautiful ideas across the client, the architects and designers move from medium to medium ranging from simple pencil sketches to Photorealistic 3D architectural renderings services. Computer-generated 3D architectural renderings look much, far more photorealistic than hand-drawn renderings.
There are a rise within the number of organizations from industries such us commercial, institutional, and residential that are using 3D architectural visualizations. this is often probably due to the benefits of using 3D architectural rendering in client presentations and construction planning. Through 3D imagery, it can help buyers or clients feel what it might be like living within the property. This reciprocally , probably increases the speed of sales because it creates a sensible effect. Hence, it’s becoming a necessity for 3D artist and designers to adapt.
Architects, nowadays, pair up 3D modeling software with 3D rendering software so as to supply their amazing, photorealistic presentations. They use 3D modeling software like 3ds Max built by AutoDesk, SketchUp originally by Google which is now acquired by Trimble, and Rhino which was developed by McNeel. three of the foremost popular 3D rendering software. These software were developed further to deal with the rise in quality and services demand.

2016 Year Best Brand Logo Redesigns
From the iconic companies Budweiser or Kodak to the most recent ones such as Instagram or Uber, all of them have a strong visual identity. In 2016, many of them nevertheless decided to refresh their logos. More uncluttered, with a new typography, new colors or on the contrary not so far from their original symbol, here is the selection of the most successful by Fubiz.
1.Instagram
The famous camera of Instagram experienced a strong rejuvenation: a more suggestive and minimalist but also more colorful version. A reference to the numerous filters that the app offers.
2. Uber
Even though the symbols are not that different, the change of logo of Uber came along with the launch of a new service : Uber Rush, wich is only available in Chicago, San Francisco and New York for now.
3. Netflix
Made of a ribbon, the new “N” of Netflix fits with a trend that consists in creating “folded” logos ; like optical illusions that give depth.
4. Mastercard
The emblematic red and orange circles were conserved but the “c” of “card” is now written in lowercase to mean, according to the CEO of the brand, Raja Rajamannar, that a Mastercard is way more than a simple credit card.
5. The MET
Although it is controversed, this change is however truly emblematic. The museum didn’t have a proper strong visual identity and when its new typography was revealed, it was said that it was copied on the one of a magazine ; many people then wished the return of the previous one.
6. Deliveroo
In 4 years of existence, the Deliveroo team quickly evolved. In order to go along with this progression, a new visual aspect was designed, followed by HD pictures of the different meals on the website as well as a reflective uniform for their delivery employees.
7. Kodak
As it is unavoidable, the giant of photography keeps and highlights its red and yellow colors – that sometimes remember the ones of Mastercard. The brand even makes a step backwards with its huge “K”.
8. Mozilla
For its new visual identity, Mozilla called on the graphic designer Johnson Banks but also its users who could follow the creative process and give their opinion on the topic.
9. Budweiser
The famous American beer Budweiser was created in 1876. 140 years later, as Anheuser-Busch thought this 2016 was a particularly American year, the logo experiences an important purification but keeps its recognizable bow tie shape as well as its red color.
10. Pitchfork
Even if it stays close to the original logo, Pitchfork decided to separate from its previous type but also from the arrows of the Triton that designed the outlines of the final “k”.
