For some, like Jason who is named Ivppiter Tonans (Thundering Jove) by 'allies' and enemies alike, both in reverence and in horror and Annabeth who is titled Makhanitis (Deviser, Contriver) for her plans, it is an honour.

For others, like Luke who is praised with 'Promakhos' (the Champion) and Eriounês (Luck-bringing) by his 'comrades' and hears 'Klepsiphrôn' (Deceiver, Dissembler*) and Phêlêtês (Thief, Robber) hissed bitterly by 'enemies', it is a bitter, annoying thing that he cant quite seem to get rid of.

For Nico who hears Aidôneus* (Unseen one) hissed by monsters right before he steps out of the shadows unseen and strikes them down and Percy who is called Ennosigaios (earth-shaker) in pure dread by monsters after his feat at Mount Saint Helens was spread around.

*Dissembler — someone who hides their real feelings, intentions or true facts :)

olympics coming up…… athlete aus on the mind….. satoru as a swimmer….. unreasonably large wingspan…. huge hands..... thinks “official” competitions and tournaments are boring because he can’t use the goofy purple googly eyes goggles he likes to practice in…… practices at ungodly hours solely because he likes when the pool is empty because that means you’ll dip your feet in at the edge and be there to greet him with a kiss when he’s finished his laps….. they bring up the stats board and it’s just his name ten times before the next fastest person and he could still lap them, and even tho he’ll always put so much pressure on himself to be the best, it’s worth it to have you hold his face and tell him you’re proud of him... he’s gotten so much merch from events and sponsorships and he used to think they just created clutter but that all changes when you start to wear his clothes (esp the ones with his name on it… he’s not proud to admit that does Something to him)…. always looks up to the stands when he finishes a race and if he knows you’re not there, he looks right at the camera, draws an infinity sign with his fingers, and blows a kiss (which, some commentators routinely call “unsportsmanlike conduct” but he doesn’t care, and always, publicly says he’ll pay the fees if it means blowing a kiss to his girl at home)

you know I wonder what it says about me and/or fandom that it’s making me way more nervous to outline a future fic I want to write that ends in tragedy and a bunch of major characters die in the course of that tragedy than it ever did to like… write the fic where boatem keeps on coming across their bloated corpses. it’s not even that I haven’t written major character death before (although admittedly the death in stuffed bird ALSO made me way more nervous at the time than just about anything else about that fic, except maybe “the grian reveal ends up too corny”). nor is it that I haven’t written things that end bleakly or in tragedy before (carrows is a fic that arguably has an unhappy ending; the catastrophe is averted for the time being rather than actually prevented). I think it might be the combination of the taboo of character death within fandom with the aversion a lot of fandom has to “real” tragedy that’s freaking me out about this fic. I mean I’m gonna write it it’s one of the ideas I’ve been most excited about in a long time and it’s revived my “I want to try to get a daily writing streak going” mood. but man, I don’t know. I think it’s sometimes scary to put yourself out there by writing an ending that is going to make people unhappy on purpose, that’s sad on purpose, and because it’s sad is gonna alienate people and you know that from the entry. so like, shoutout to everyone who does that, y’all are real ones,

I think it would really benefit people to internalize that mental illnesses are often chronic and not acute. Some of us will never be able to jump the hurdle of managing illness, much less sustaining a sense of normalcy. Many of us will never "recover," will never manage symptoms, will never even come close to appearing normal - and this is for any condition, even the ones labeled as "simple" disorders or "easy-to-manage" disorders.

It isn't a failure if you cannot manage your symptoms. It isn't a moral failure, and you aren't an awful person. You are human. There's only so much you can do before recognizing that you cannot lift the world. Give yourself the space to be ill because, functionally, you are.
