Hello, I wanted to ask you a question since I love the way you answer. The other day I saw a discussion that was generated by the scene in the council of Jayce and Mel in chapter 8 and many of them did not understand Jayce's reaction (they basically destroyed him). I particularly understand, and other people do, that Jayce is acting according to the consequences of the trauma he lived in the other dimension (obviously it does not justify the mistreatment). I think that he is carrying a lot of guilt and pain for his past actions, and he needs to unload that. In addition to that in the case with Mel, their intimate bond is broken by the manipulation he suffered from her (although he also had his things). But people say that he is an exaggerator, an impulsive fool, Mel also went through horrible situations (I do not deny it) and yet she did not treat him badly at that time. Well, I would like to know your opinion regarding this scene that generates debate.
It is always wild to me when I hear of or see glimpses of Arcane discourse that can be summed up with "we missed the point of the show that's heavily themed on how trauma and emotional upheaval can cause people to act in ways we may not agree with, but can understand" :)))
Also wild that people expect Jayce to be perfectly rational and emotionally competent here after we just saw him staggering around Viktor's commune with terrifying hallucinations, screaming as he blasts a hole in Viktor's chest. Not to mention that we just saw the actual hell he went through that left him in that state?? Is Jayce, who has shown that he reacts with brash anger when he's frightened and in over his head, maybe going to not be the most level headed??
One thing that I really like about the scene is that he DOES apologize to Mel afterwards. He recognizes that he acted out, apologizes for being an asshole, and recognizes that Mel is hurting as well. Yeah his actions weren't great (tho to me seeing him acting physically aggressive was another sign of just how fucked up Jayce was) but damn in the context of how everyone else in this show responds to emotional trauma, he's pretty mild.
I'll also argue that neither of them are wrong in this scene, and you can pretty clearly see why he escalated so quick. Even without an in depth analysis that looks further back, his reactions are pretty understandable (for said analysis, @avelera has some great posts on this as a breakup scene for Jayce and Mel, pointing out that his auditory flashbacks in the pit focused a lot on realizing that Mel was using them) Let's break it down:
Scene opens with Jayce already reminiscing on the traumatic event that started all this. He's standing in the place where Viktor died, where Jayce made the decisions that created whatever Viktor is now. When you rewatch it, you have the added context that he's likely grappling with what Mage Viktor has told him. It's important to note that at this point, he doesn't know that Mel has arcane powers until his hammer and arcane corrupted mind spidey-sense her arrival.
We already know he was dealing with a ton of survivors guilt for being untouched by the blast while everyone else was grievously injured, and while Viktor specifically mortally wounded. This is probably the worst place and the worst time for him to learn that Mel has arcane powers and that she's the reason they were unharmed. And that sucks. Because he's closing Mel off even harder than he already would have, while he's the one Mel learned to be more emotionally vulnerable with.
Something happened to her too, and she reaches out for that connection. She doesn't need to be a strong Noxian with Jayce, so she tries to connect on the fact that they both obviously went through something, but unfortunately it's just when he thinks his worst suspicions about her are confirmed.Â
Because hey let's ALSO talk about Jayce realizing Mel has been using him and why he's gonna take that hard! Jayce is pretty obviously a romantic person in season 1. It's almost a comedy beat when he snuggles up in her lap and she looks startled with the realization that her boytoy is a puppy. That is so obviously a lad who does not see sex as something casual, and he's very emotionally vulnerable with Mel very quickly.
Now, we, the viewers, have been able to see Mel allowing herself more vulnerability with Jayce in return. We've seen that she views her political manipulation as a way to benefit everyone. We've seen that she really came to care about Jayce, that sleeping with him became more than another way to influence him. But Jayce has only now realized he WAS being used. Who WOULD respond nicely to that?Â
So you have that, on top of suddenly learning there is a reason he was fine while Viktor wasn't. Yes it's unfair to immediately blame her for it, but as soon as he says "because you used me!" I had a moment of "OH...yeah actually he's right tho. he's not out of pocket there"
(Also we can see him shutting that emotional vulnerability down. He tells Mel "it doesn't matter" because he's seen how his openness with her made him easy to manipulate. Again, she has opened herself up in return, but he has no way of knowing how much was sincere or not and is in no state to be rational about any of it.)
It doesn't help that she pretty much confirms that she used him. To Mel, it's not an insult to be seen as an investment by her, so she justifies herself for it, and I'm gonna read her a bit for this; when someone is feeling some sort of way about being used as an investment, explaining why they were a great investment isn't the best move!
And then. Yaknow. His brain is all jacked up from Arcane corruption and he's got Mel already setting that off with her powers, then Viktor's making them go extra wild by creeping around with his freaky little cuntbot. I didn't like him getting physically intimidating but it's also pretty obvious that he was seeing her as an active threat until Viktor showed up.
And again. He pretty quickly apologized and gave her an opening to talk about what happened to her. It's not perfect, but no one on this show IS. That's the point of the show! The fact that he quickly apologizes both times we see him lash out at people he cares about shows a pretty substantial amount of emotional intelligence in comparison to everyone else in this "Hurt People Hurt People" show.
So. yeah. I also had the emotional journey of "hey Jayce that's not fair, she pretty obviously said she couldn't control it, what the hell are you stalking at her with that hammer for- OH. I mean. YEAH she did use you that....hey that part's fair...also Mel back up girl, he's super obviously Not Okay." But I think acting like Jayce is some sort of unique asshole in THIS SHOW is quite a stretch.
#arcane#arcane spoilers#jayce talis#mel medarda#arcane meta#i think the hate on jayce for this scene also comes from us seeing more of Mel's journey and being more protective of her#even i forgot the experience of going through the first two thirds of season 1 like#loving mel but being like 'sir she is so obviously playing you like a fiddle this is bad for you'

The Sign of Three Pt. 3
Sherlock x Female! Reader
TW: Drinking, Language, Potential Emetophobia (If youâve seen this episode, you know), Spoilers to Season 3
Part 1
Part 2
Part 4
Part 5
âOf course, thereâs hours of material here, but Iâve cut it down to the really good bits.â
Oh god, the stag night. You almost laughed just thinking about it. It was unbelievable that Sherlock was willingly telling this story to an audience. You were fortunate enough to witness some of the events of the night firsthand.
The story began the morning of in Baker Street, 11 am:
It was a Saturday morning, and you were over having tea with Sherlock. For the two of you, âhaving teaâ consisted of you both reading in complete silence while you happened to be drinking tea. It was a common occurrence, and for you, it was a treasured tradition. You were curled up in Johnâs chair opposite Sherlock. Today, you were reading Emma by Jane Austen. You peeked over at Sherlock to see what he was reading. Sherlock was reading a book titled âAtlas of Forensic Pathologyâ. Riveting. The book looked so heavy; it would probably go straight through the floor if he dropped it.
You returned to your book. This was probably your third time reading the Jane Austen classic. You were inexplicably drawn to the plot, the message, the love story, all of it. You finally were at your favorite part. When Mr. Knightly said to Emma, âIf I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more.â You looked at Sherlock over the pages of your book. You couldnât help but consider the relevance of the quote in your own life.
When you first came to terms with the fact that you were in love with Sherlock, the feeling had burned through you. You couldnât focus and constantly fought the urge to tell him. Possibly because of the several near-death experiences you'd had. After you made up with Sherlock at the engagement party, the feeling persisted but it was almost duller, easier to live with. Youâd slowly regained security in Sherlockâs role in your life and you no longer constantly worried heâd leave again. You returned to your version of mundane and your unrequited feelings for Sherlock became the new normal. It had become more of a consistent ache than a burn.
Sherlock interrupted your thoughts: âShouldnât it be relatively easy to find a new book to read if you work in a bookstore?â
âTrue, but I like this one,â you said without looking up from your book.
âWhy? What do you gain from reading a convoluted story of questionable morals that provides no useful information?â
You finally put your book down. âBecause, I like to read for fun. Maybe you should try it sometime.â
Sherlock smiled and scoffed at you then returned to his book.
You shook your head and downed the rest of your tea. âOkay, Iâve got to go to work.â You got up and took your mug to the kitchen. On your way back to gather your things, you noticed an open file on the kitchen table that looked like a John Watson scrapbook. You pulled the first paper off the stack to see a cutout of Johnâs head pasted onto the Vitruvian Man. âSherlock?â you called over your shoulder, âWhatâs this file for?â
âWhat file?â He asked.
You picked up the file and carried it back to the living room. You returned to your seat and started thumbing through it.
âOh. Thatâs for the stag night,â said Sherlock.
âStag night? I didnât think you would want to do that sort of thingâ
âWhy not?â He swiftly closed his book. If you didnât know better, youâd take the action as a sign of offense.
âUh, no reason,â you said hastily. The file was full of peer-reviewed studies on alcohol consumption, detailed chemistry notes, and copies of Johnâs medical records. The last page was a detailed schedule of where they were going and how much they were going to drink every hour. âThis is awfully thorough.â
âI needed to ensure the maximum amount of enjoyment for the both of us for the duration of the night.â
âHow considerate of you.â You put the file down and leaned forward. âSo, what do you have planned?â
âJohn and I will be drinking at a pub on every street we ever found a corpse.â
âThat is oddly perfect for the both of you.â
âI thought so,â Sherlock said with a grin.
You looked at the time. If you didnât leave now, youâd be late. âWell, Iâm off. See you later, Sherlock.â
âYes, yes, goodbye,â he mumbled and returned to reading. You left the file on the table, gathered your belongings, and left for your shift.Â
---------------------------------
Later that evening:
You closed the bookshop at 8 pm and headed to the tube station. As you made your way through the crowded streets, you heard your phone ringing. You dug through your bag to find it as you walked. You saw Sherlockâs name on the caller ID and answered it. Your ears were immediately assaulted by electronic dance music.
You heard Sherlockâs voice first âShut up John, Iâm calling her.â He shouted over the music
âWho?â you then recognized Johnâs voice.
âHer John, Iâm calling her!â
You struggled to hear the call over the booming music âHello?? Sherlock? Why are you calling me?â
âOh! Itâs y/n! Hello!â John shouted into the phone. You winced at the volume.
âJohn? Where are you? Are you drunk?â
âStag night! Sherlock tried to measure my piss. Then he got into a fight.â
âGive me that backâ Sherlockâs voice âY/n meet us back at Baker Street. Itâs an âmergencyâ
âWhat did you say? Sherlock? Itâs really hard to hear,â
âBaker Street. Now!â He shouted then hung up.
For a moment, you stood in the street, dumbfounded. It was only 8 pm and both Sherlock and John were piss drunk at some club. You couldnât even begin to process the rest of the information. So much for Sherlockâs plan, although it did seem like they had âmaximized their enjoymentâ. You werenât about to miss this.
ââââââââââ
You arrived at Baker Street by 8:30 pm. You opened the door to find Sherlock and John laying across the bottom of the stairs. âHello boys, Iâm here.â You announced.
At the sound of your voice, Sherlock and John scrambled to sit upright. Sherlock fell down a step in the process. You tried your best to suppress your laughter. âSo, Iâm here. Whatâs the emergency, Sherlock?â
âRight, you,â He said, raising his arm to point at you. âUpstairs.â
You watched Sherlock and John slowly stand up. John lifted one foot to climb the stairs, then stumbled backward.
âDo you need help, John?â You asked.
âNah,â he said, ââs alright, Iâm fine. I can do it myself.â Â
You slowly helped Sherlock and John up and into the flat. Sherlock tried to take off his coat, but his arms got stuck behind him. You giggled and gently pulled his coat off him and hung it on the coat rack. You lead Sherlock over to his chair and he flopped down into it.
You went into the kitchen to get some water for him and John. You figured theyâd need it. You searched the cabinets, but there wasnât a clean glass in sight. You resorted to the clean beakers on the countertops instead. You poured two 250mL beakers most of the way with water and walked them back into the living room. When you returned, Sherlock was sitting in his chair. He was drinking from a glass of scotch.
âSherlock,â you groaned. âWhere did you get that?â You attempted to reach for the glass, but he pulled his hand away, spilling it all over himself.
âItâs okay, this is fine,â he said, staring at his scotch-soaked shirt. âOh,â he started. âI almost forgot,â Sherlock leaned over the side of his chair to grab something off the floor âYou left this,â Sherlock said and handed you your copy of Emma. You hadnât even realized it was gone.
âThat was the emergency?â
âI still donât understand how you could read this 3 times,â Sherlock slurred. âItâs so- whatâs the word? Incorrect? âThere is no charm equal to tenderness of heart.â What an absurd thing to sayâ He contorted his face into an expression of disgust and took a sip of scotch from the glass in his hand.
âYou read it? Today?â The fact that Sherlock had gone out of his way to read your favorite book made you unnaturally happy. You knew not to read into the things with Sherlock, but sometimes you couldnât help yourself.
âYou left it behind and I was so bored. Besides, I had to understand why you liked it so much. I still donât know.â
You leaned over and snatched the glass of scotch from him. âI donât think thatâs the best idea, do you?â You handed him the beaker of water.
âThank you,â he said with a goofy grin. In all the years youâd known Sherlock, you had never seen him like this. It was odd to say the least yet decidedly hilarious.
âWhereâs John?â
Sherlock didnât answer but pointed in the general direction of the bathroom. You decided to take the seat opposite Sherlock. As you sat down, Sherlock put his water on the floor. He then leaned forward and put his head in his hands, staring at you.
âWhat are you doing, Sherlock?â you asked.
âYou,â he said, pointing at your face âare so hard to figure out sometimes, you know that?â
âMe?â
âItâs soooooo annoying. I can tell what almost everyone is thinking all the time, but not always you.â
âYou think Iâm hard to read?â
âYes, you. Y/n L/n.â He waved his hands around while he slightly slurred his words.
âOkay then, how about this: I tell you what Iâm thinking right now, and you do the same. Then, for one moment, we can understand each other completely.â
Sherlock furrowed his brow âYou first.â
âIâm thinking⌠that Iâm glad you called me.â Sherlock smiled and nodded. You giggled, âNow itâs your turn, and donât lie to me. What are you thinking in this moment?â
Sherlock paused. âIâm thinking that my shirtâs all wet,â he said with a slight frown.
âThatâs your own fault,â you said, putting one hand over your mouth to contain your laughter.
John re-entered the room holding post-it notes and a sharpie. âIâve just had the best idea,â he said with a sloppy grin.
-----------------------------
The three of you all had post-its stuck to your foreheads, each with names written down. John sat in the clientâs seat with the name MADONNA scribbled on the piece of paper stuck to his forehead. Sherlock, much to your enjoyment, had SHERLOCK HOLMES sloppily written on his forehead. As per the game, you had no idea what was written on yours. Sherlock was lounging back in his chair, resting his head on his hand.
âAm I a vegetable?â asked John
âYou? Or the thing?â Sherlock asked smiling. The two of them snickered.
âFunny!â said John.
Sherlock looked down and smiled. âThank you,â he choked out.
âTo answer your question, John, no,â you said.
âYour go, Sherlock,â said John.
âErmâŚ. am I human?â he asked, turning to you.
âSometimes,â you said with a smirk.
âNo, no, it canât be sometimes, canât have thatâŚâ
âFine. Yes, youâre humanâ you confirmed. âMy turn. Am I a man?â
âYeeepâ answered John. âSherlock, you again,â John said, forgetting it was his turn.
âAm I a man?â
John nodded. Sherlock kept going. âAm I a tall man?â
John looked at you and started laughing before he even spoke âMm, not as tall as people think.â Johnâs head flopped to the side as he let out a hiccup
âNice?â
âIshh,â John said skeptically.
âClever?â
âIâd say so,â you interjected.
âDo peopleâŚâ he made air quotes as he spoke the word âpeopleâ â... like me?â
âNot really,â you said, chuckling âYou tend to rub them the wrong way.â If you had to babysit your adult drunk friends, you might as well have some fun.
âHm,â Sherlock nodded intently. âAm I the current King of England?â
You and John immediately burst into laughter. âGood guess, Sherlock. But you do know England doesnât have a king?âÂ
âDonât we?â
âNo,â John said. âY/n, you go nowâ
âRight, okay. Am I a friend of ours?â
âEhh, yes?â Sherlock said.
âYes, yes they are Sherlock,â said John âJesus.â
âWell, that narrows it down significantly. Am I Greg?â
âWhoâs Greg?â Sherlock asked.
You rolled your eyes and took the post-it off your forehead. The name âGavinâ was written on it in Sherlockâs handwriting. Of course.
âHey!â Sherlock yelled, âCheater, thatâs cheating. John, did you see that? Y/nâs cheating.â Sherlock got up and took the post-it from your hand. He leaned forward and stuck it back on your forehead. âThere. Now itâs Johnâs turn.â
âAm I a woman?â asked John. He slumped in his seat. Sherlock immediately started giggling. âWhat?â John asked.
âYes,â confirmed Sherlock
âAm I a pretty woman?â
âEr, beauty is a construct based entirely on childhood impressions, influences, and role models.â
âBut am I pretty?â John asked again.
âYeah, Sherlock? Is John a pretty woman?â
âI donât know who you are. I donât know who youâre supposed to be.â
âWhat?! You picked the name,â John said.
âAh, but I picked it at random from the papers,â Sherlock said, flailing his arm over to the stack of newspapers in the corner.
âI donât think you understand the point of this game, Sherlock,â you added.
âSo, I am human, Iâm not as tall as people think I am ... Iâm-Iâm nice-ish ... clever, but I tend to rub them up the wrong way.â
âThatâs correct,â said John.
âIâm you, arenât I?â Sherlock asked, pointing to John.
âOoh-ooh!â Mrs. Hudson chirped as she knocked on the door. âClient!â Behind Mrs. Hudson was a woman wearing a nurseâs outfit with a cardigan over it. You scrambled to take the post-it off your forehead as you stood up.
âHello, Iâm sorry, but this really isnât a good timeââ
Sherlock immediately stood up and interrupted you. âItâs not a bad time, no, no Y/n. We always help a person in need.â
âDo we?â you said with a forced smile and looked over at John for help. John just stared back blankly at you with a goofy drunken smile.
The woman beamed âThank you,â she said. âWhich one of you is Sherlock Holmes?â
John imitated a slide whistle, and pointed to Sherlockâs post-it on his forehead. Sherlock flashed a wide toothy grin. You put your head in your hands in defeat.
----------------------------------------------------------------
A few moments later, youâd made the woman, Tessa, some tea, and you John and Sherlock were sitting on the couch. Sherlock was sat in between you and John. Tessa sat in a chair opposite the three of you.
âI donât ... a lot ... I mean, I donât ... date all that much ... and ... he seemed ... nice, you know?â
You looked over at Sherlock and John hoping they could keep it together. John was blinking slowly and heavily while trying to stay awake. Sherlock was listening to Tessaâs story intently.
She continued. âWe seemed to automatically connect. We had one night â dinner, such interesting conversation. It was ... lovely. To be honest, Iâd love to have gone further ...â
Beside you, Sherlock closed his eyes and began to lean into your shoulder, dozing off. You subtly elbowed him, and he straightened up abruptly.
âBut I thought, no, this is special. Letâs take it slowly, exchange numbers. He said heâd get in touch and then ... Maybe he wasnât quite as keen as I was ...â
You looked over at John who was practically asleep with his eyes open. He had a blank stare and his mouth hung slightly open.
âBut I â I just thought ... at least heâd call to say that we were finished,â Tessa concluded, tearing up slightly and looking at the floor. Immediately, Sherlockâs face contorted into an expression of sympathy as he dramatically brought his hand to his mouth. You stared in disbelief and handed Tessa a tissue. âThank you,â she said to you. âI went round there, to his flat. No trace of him. Mr. HolmesâŚâ
Sherlock leaned forward and rested his head on his hands.
âI honestly think I had dinner ... with a ghost.â
You and Tessa waited to hear what Sherlock had to say. You leaned forward to look at Sherlock and Johnâs faces only to discover they had both fallen asleep.
âWith a ghost, Mr. Holmes!â Tessa repeated, louder.
You sharply elbowed Sherlock in the ribs much harder than before, and he sprung awake. âBoring, boring, boring,â he mumbled, then turned to you and put his hands on either side of your head. âNo! fascinating!â He exclaimed, his face right up close to yours. Sherlock then turned to John âJohn â John! Wake up!â John finally stirred awake.
âIâm up,â he mumbled.
âApologies about my ... you know ... thing,â Sherlock said, pointing at John. âRude. Rude!â he yelled straight into your ear. You grimaced at the loud noise and put your hand on Sherlockâs forearm to settle him.
âYes, thatâs enough, Sherlock,â you whispered. âUhm, go on, Tessa.â
âI checked with the landlord, and the man who lived there died. Heart attack. And there we are, having dinner one week on.â She turned and began to rummage through her purse. She pulled out a wrinkled piece of paper and handed it to Sherlock. You grabbed it before he could take it. It was a print-out of an online chatroom. âAnd I found this thing online, sort of chatroom thing for girls who think theyâre dating men from the spirit world.â
You nodded. This actually seemed like a decent case. Too bad Sherlock and John probably wouldnât remember one word of it tomorrow. Sherlock tried to stand up next to you, wobbled, and then put one hand on the top of your head to steady himself. You groaned and struggled to untangle his hand from your hair.
âDonât worry. Iâll find him in ten minutes,â Sherlock said confidently. Tessa smiled in relief. âWhatâs your dogâs name?â
You facepalmed and stood up next to Sherlock. He leaned over to wake up John. âJohn! Wake up! Weâre meant to ... The gameâs ... somethingâ he said, waving his hand around.
âOn!â yelled John.
âYes, that,â Sherlock said, walking out the door. âCome on, Y/n.â
âWait, Sherlock. Where are you going?â You protested, following him down the stairs.
âThatâs a good question. Where are we going?â he asked Tessa in the foyer.
âOh! Well, I suppose we ought to go to his flat,â Tessa said.
âSherlock, no,â you said, âYou canât leave...â you looked off the the side awkwardly ââŚlike this.â He ignored you and dragged John out to the sidewalk by his sweater sleeve. He stepped out into the street and hailed down a cab.
â40a, Jasmine Grove,â interjected Tessa as the cab pulled up.
âAre you coming Y/n?â Sherlock slurred.
âNo!â you yelled. âAnd neither are you.â Before you could reach him, Sherlock climbed into the cab after John and Tessa and slammed the cab door in your face. The car drove off.Â
âCome on, really?!â you yelled in frustration. Now you had to follow them. You ran to the edge of the sidewalk and decided to call a cab for yourself.
--------------------------------------------------------
You finally made it to the apartment to see Tessa and a man you presumed to be the landlord standing by the door. It was a rather modern apartment with exposed brick and abstract furniture. John was standing in the corner with his hands crossed over his chest and his lips pursed. He was swaying slightly, trying to keep his balance. You pushed past the landlord to see Sherlock kneeling on a shag carpet holding his pocket magnifier. As soon as you walked in, he face-planted into the carpet and passed out.
âHeâs clueing for looksâ John announced, proudly.
âOh god,â you said, scrambling over to Sherlock. You grabbed his upper arm and tried to pull him up. God, he was heavy.Â
âThatâs it, Iâm calling the police.â The landlord pulled out his cell phone.
âNo, no, please, that wonât be necessary,â you protested.
âThis is a famous detective. Itâs Sherlock Holmes and his partner, John Hamish Watson,â Tessa clarified.
You finally managed to get Sherlock to straighten up. âWhen did you get here?â Sherlock asked, looking up at you. Then, he bent over and immediately threw up on the carpet.
âUgh why?â you groaned and plugged your nose. Sherlock wiped his mouth on his sleeve and then clicked his magnifier shut.
------------------------------------------------------
The next morningâŚ
The landlord had called the police and the night ended with you watching Sherlock and John being driven away in the back of a police car. Youâd immediately called Greg hoping heâd let them go. Greg had said the best he could do was try and let them off with a warning if they spent the night in the drunk tank. When the station opened, Greg sent you a photo of Sherlock and John asleep in a cell with the caption âCome and get âem!â
You walked into Scotland Yard and Greg was there to meet you. âThank you, Greg,â you said, handing him one of the 4 coffees youâd brought.
âGod, what on earth happened to them?â Greg asked, taking a sip from the coffee you gave him.
âStag night got a bit out of hand,â you said. âAfraid I lost control of the situation.â Â
âYou can say that again,â agreed Greg as the two of you walked through the station to the drunk tank.
âRise and Shine!â Greg bellowed as he swung open the door. John was awake and sitting on the floor. He had his hands on his head while Sherlock was still fast asleep on the bench.
âOh my god,â John said, grimacing in pain. âIs that Greg?â
âGet up,â he said âY/nâs come to collect you. Managed to square things with the desk sergeant.â John painfully and slowly got up. âWhat a couple of lightweights! Y/n said you couldnât even make it to closing time!â
âYeah, could you whisper?â John asked.
âNOT REALLY!â Greg shouted straight into his ear. Across the cell, Sherlock jolted awake, mouth wide open in shock. He tried to stand up, then fell backward back onto the bench. You walked over and helped him up.
âThere you go, Sherlock. Nice and easy,â you said quietly and handed him one of the coffees. He took it and stumbled out of the cell, head down. He looked like hell, not to mention the way he smelled. You caught up to John and handed him one of the remaining coffees, leaving the last for yourself. You took a sip of your coffee and continued down the hall.Â
âWell, thanks for a ... you know ... an evening,â John said to Sherlock.
âOh, it was awful,â Sherlock said, pinching the bridge of his nose.
âI was gonna pretend, but it was, truly,â said John. He then turned to you. âY/n, I am so sorry, that wasââ
âItâs okay, I had fun,â you said with a smile.
âAt least someone did,â said Sherlock. âThat woman, Tessa, dated a ghost. The most interesting case for months. What a wasted opportunity.â
âReally? Thatâs your takeaway from this?â you asked. He shrugged. âCome on, boys, letâs get you home.âÂ
A/N: Stag night! I love this part of the episode, so I hope I did it justice. Funny story. When I was writing this, I was trying to find real book titles for Sherlock to read and I came across a real book titled âSurrounded by Idiotsâ I wanted to use it in the story SO BAD but it was so perfect, that it sounded cheesy and made up lmao. Iâm 100% certain Sherlock would have it in his bookcase though.Â

Movies I watched in May
Sadly, I kind of skipped writing a post for April. It was a mad month with so much going on: lots of emails sent and lots of stress. I started a new job so Iâm getting to grips with that... and even then, I still watched a bunch of movies. But this is about what I watched in May and, yeah⌠still a bunch. So if youâre looking to get into some other movies - possibly some youâve thought about watching but didnât know what they were like, or maybe like the look of something youâve never heard of - then this may help! So hereâs every film I watched from the 1st to the 31st of May 2021 Tenet (2020) - 8/10 This was my third time watching Christopher Nolanâs most Christopher Nolan movie ever and it makes no sense but I still love it. The spectacle of it all is truly like nothing Iâve ever seen. I had also watched it four days prior to this watch also, only this time I had enabled audio description for the visually impaired, thinking it would make it funny⌠It didnât.
Nomadland (2020) - 6/10 ChloĂŠ Zhaoâs new movie got a lot of awards attention. Everyone was hyped for this and when it got put out on Disney+ I was eager to see what all the fuss was about. Seeing these real nomads certainly gave the film an authenticity, along with McDormandâs ever-praisable acting. But generally I found it quite underwhelming and lacking a lot in its pacing. Nomadland surely has its moments of captivating cinematography and enticing commentary on the culture of these people, but it felt like it went on forever without any kind of forward direction or goal. The Prince of Egypt (1998) - 6/10 I reviewed this on my podcast, The Sunday Movie Marathon. For what it is, itâs pretty fun but nowhere near as good as some of the best DreamWorks movies.
Chinatown (1974) - 8/10 What a fantastic and wonderfully unpredictable mystery crime film! I regret to say Iâve not seen many Jack Nicholson performances but he steals the show. Despite Polanskiâs infamy, itâd be a lie to claim this wasnât truly masterful. Howlâs Moving Castle (2004) - 8/10 Admittedly I was half asleep as I curled up on the sofa to watch this again on a whim. I watched this with someone who demanded the dubbed version over the subtitled version and while I objected heavily, I knew Iâd seen the movie before so it didnât matter too much. That person also fell asleep about 20 minutes in, so how pointless an argument it was. Howlâs Moving Castle boasts superb animation, the likes of which Iâve only come to expect of Miyazaki. The story is so unique and the colours are absolutely gorgeous. This may not be my favourite from the legendary director but thereâs no denying its splendour.
BÄhubali: The Beginning (2015) - 3/10 The next morning I watched some absolute trash. This crazy, over the top Indian movie is hilarious and I could perhaps recommend it if it werenât so long. That being said, BÄhubali was not a dumpster fire; it has a lot of good-looking visual effects and itâs easy to see the ambition for this epic story, it just doesnât come together. Thereâs fun to be had with how the main character is basically the strongest man in the world and yet still comes across as just a lucky dumbass, along with all the dancing that makes no sense but is still entertaining to watch. Seven Samurai (1954) - 10/10 If it wasnât obvious already, Seven Samurai is a masterpiece. I reviewed this on The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast, so more thoughts can be found there. Red Road (2006) - 6/10 Another recommendation on episode 30 of the podcast. Red Road really captures the authentic British working class experience. Before Sunrise (1995) - 10/10 One of the best romances put to film. The first in Richard Linklaterâs Before Trilogy is undoubtedly my favourite, despite its counterparts being almost equally as good. It tells the story of a young couple travelling through Europe, who happen to meet on a train and spend the day together. It is gloriously shot on location in Vienna and features some of the most interesting dialogue Iâve ever seen put to film. Heartbreakingly beautiful.
Tokyo Story (1953) - 9/10 This Japanese classic - along with being visually and sonically masterful - is a lot about appreciating the people in your life and taking the time to show them that you love them. Itâs about knowing itâs never too late to rekindle old relationships if you truly want to, which is something Iâve been able to relate to in recent years. It broke my heart in two. Tokyo Story will make you want to call your mother. Before Sunset (2004) - 10/10 Almost a decade after Sunrise, Sunset carries a sombre yet relieving feeling. Again, the performances from Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke take me away, evoking nostalgic feelings as they stroll through the contemporary Parisian streets. There is no regret in me for buying the Criterion blu-ray boxset for this trilogy. Before Midnight (2013) - 10/10 Here, Linklater cements this trilogy as one of the best in film history. Itâs certainly not the ending I expected, yet itâs an ending I appreciate endlessly. Because it doesnât really end. Midnight shows the troubling times of a strained relationship; one that has endured so long and despite initially feeling almost dreamlike in how idealistically that first encounter was portrayed, the cracks appear as the film forces you to come to terms with the fact that fairy-tale romances just donât exist. Relationships require effort and sacrifice and sometimes the ones that truly work are those that endure through all the rough patches to emerge stronger. The Holy Mountain (1973) - 10/10 Jodorowskyâs masterpiece is absolute insanity. I talked more about it on The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast.
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) - 10/10 Another watch for Grand Budapest because I bought the Criterion blu-ray. As unalterably perfect as ever. Blue Jay (2016) - 6/10 Rather good up to a point. My co-hosts and I did not agree on how good this movie was, which is a discussion you can listen to on my podcast. Shadow and Bone: The Afterparty (2021) - 3/10 For what itâs worth, I really enjoyed the first season of Shadow and Bone, which is why I wanted to see what âThe Afterpartyâ was about. This could have been a lot better and much less annoying if all those terrible comedians werenât hosting and telling bad jokes. I donât want to see Fortune Feimster attempt to tell a joke about oiling her body as the cast of the show sit awkwardly in their homes over Zoom. If it had simply been a half hour, 45 minute chat with the cast and crew about how they made the show and their thoughts on it, a lot of embarrassment and time-wasting could have been spared. Wadjda (2012) - 6/10 Another recommendation discussed at length on The Sunday Movie Marathon. Wadjda was pretty interesting from a cultural perspective but largely familiar in terms of story structure.
Freddy Got Fingered (2001) - 2/10 A truly terrible movie with maybe one or two scenes that stop it from being a complete catastrophe. Tom Green tried to create something that almost holds a middle finger to everyone who watches it and to some that could be a fun experience, but to me it just came across as utterly irritating. Itâs simply a bunch of scenes threaded together with an incredibly loose plot. He wears the skin of a dead deer, smacks a disabled woman over and over again on the legs to turn her on, and he swings a newborn baby around a hospital room by its umbilical cord (that part was actually pretty funny). I cannot believe I watched this again, although I think I repressed a lot of it since having seen it for the first time around five years ago. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 - (2011) I have to say, these movies seem to get better with each instalment. Theyâre still not very good though. That being said, Iâm amazed at how many times Iâve watched each of the Twilight movies at this point. This time around, I watched Breaking Dawn - Part 1 with a YMS commentary track on YouTube and that made the experience a lot more entertaining. Otherwise, this film is super dumb but pretty entertaining. I would recommend watching these movies with friends. Solaris (1972) - 8/10 Andrei Tarkovskyâs grand sci-fi epic about the emotional crises of a crew on the space station orbiting the fictional planet Solaris is much as strange and creepy as you might expect from the master Russian auter. I had wanted to watch this for a while so I bought the Criterion blu-ray and itâs just stunning. Itâs clear to see the 2001: A Space Odyssey inspiration but Solaris is quite a different beast entirely. Jaws (1975) - 4/10 I really tried to get into this classic movie, but Jaws exhibits basically everything I donât like about Steven Spielbergâs directing. For sure, the effects are crazily good but the story itself is poorly handled and largely uninteresting. It was just a massive slog to get through.
Darkman (1990) - 6/10 Sam Raimiâs superhero movie is so much fun, albeit massively stupid. Further discussion on Darkman can be found on episode 32 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast. Darkman II: The Return of Durant (1995) - 1/10 Abysmal. I forgot the movie as I watched it. This was part of a marathon my friends and I did for episode 32 of our podcast. Darkman III: Die Darkman Die (1996) - 1/10 Perhaps this trilogy is not so great after all. Only marginally better than Darkman II but still pretty terrible. More thoughts on episode 32 of my podcast. F For Fake (1973) - 8/10 Rewatching this proved to be a worthwhile decision. Albeit slightly boring, thereâs no denying how crazy the story of this documentary about art forgers is. The standout however, is the director himself. Orson Welles makes a lot of this film about himself and how hot his girlfriend is and it is hilarious.
The Mitchells vs. The Machines (2021) - 4/10 More style over substance, Sonyâs new animated adventure wants so much to be in trend with the current internet culture but it simply doesnât understand what itâs emulating. Thereâs a nyan cat reference, for crying out loud. For every joke that works, there are about ten more that do not and were it not for the wonderful animation, it simply wouldnât be getting so much praise. Taxi Driver (1976) - 10/10 The first movie Iâve seen in a cinema since 2020 and damn it was good to be back! Iâve already reviewed Taxi Driver in my March wrap-up but seeing it in the cinema was a real treat. Irreversible (2002) - 8/10 One of the most viscerally horrendous experiences Iâve ever had while watching a movie. I cannot believe a friend of mine gave me the DVD to watch. More thoughts on episode 32 of The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast. Donât watch it with the family. The Golden Compass (2007) - 1/10 I had no recollection of this being as bad as it is. The Golden Compass is the definition of a factory mandated movie. Nothing it does on its own is worth any kind of merit. I would say, if you wanted an experience like what this tries to communicate, a better option by far is the BBC series, His Dark Materials. More of my thoughts can be found in the review I wrote on Letterboxd.
Antichrist (2009) - 8/10 Lars von Trier is nothing if not provocative and I can understand why someone would not like Antichrist, but I enjoyed it quite a lot. After watching it, I wrote a slightly disjointed summary of my interpretations of this highly metaphorical movie in the group chat, so fair warning for a bit of spoilers and graphic descriptions: It's like, the patriarchy, man! Oppression! Men are the rational thinkers with big brains and the women just cry and be emotional. So she's seen as crazy when she's smashing his cock and driving a drill through his leg to keep him weighted down. Like, how does he like it, ya know? So then she mutilates herself like she did with him and now they're both wounded, but the animals crowd around her (and the crow that he couldn't kill because it's Mother nature, not Father nature, duh). Then he kills her, even though she could've killed him loads of times but didn't. So it's like "haha big win for the man who was subjected to such horrific torture. Victory!" And then all the women with no faces come out of the woods because it's like a constant cycle. Manchester By The Sea (2016) - 6/10 Great performances in this super sad movie. I canât say I got too much out of it though. Roar (1981) - 9/10 Watching Roar again was still as terrifying an experience as the first time. If you want to watch something thatâs loose on plot with poor acting but with real big cats getting in the way of production and physically attacking people, look no further. This is the scariest movie Iâve ever seen because itâs all basically real. Cannot recommend it enough. Eyes Without A Face (1960) - 8/10 Iâm glad I checked this old French movie out again. Thereâs a lot to marvel at in so many aspects, what with the premise itself - a mad surgeon taking the faces from unsuspecting women and transplanting them onto another - being incredibly unique for the time. Short, sweet and entertaining!
Se7en (1995) - 10/10 The first in a David Fincher marathon we did for The Sunday Movie Marathon, episode 33. Zodiac (2007) - 10/10 Second in the marathon, as it was getting late, we decided to watch half that evening and the last half on the following evening. Zodiac is a brilliant movie and you can hear more of my thoughts on the podcast (though I apologise; my audio is not the best in this episode). Gone Girl (2014) - 10/10 My favourite Fincher movie. More insights into this masterpiece in episode 33 of the podcast. Friends: The Reunion (2021) - 6/10 It was heartwarming to see the old actors for this great show together again. I talked about the Friends reunion film at length in episode 33 of my podcast.
Wolfwalkers (2020) - 10/10 I reviewed this in an earlier post but would like to reiterate just how wonderful Wolfwalkers is. If you get the chance, please see it in the cinema. I couldnât stop crying from how beautiful it was. Raya and The Last Dragon (2021) - 6/10 After watching Wolfwalkers, I decided I didnât want to go home. So I had lunch in town and booked a ticket for Disneyâs Raya and The Last Dragon. A child was coughing directly behind me the entire time. Again, I reviewed this in an earlier post but generally it was decent but I have so many problems with the execution. The Princess Bride (1987) - 9/10 Clearly I underrated this the last time I watched it. The Princess Bride is warm and hilarious with some delightfully memorable characters. A real classic!
The Invisible Kid (1988) - 1/10 About as good as youâd expect a movie with that name to be, The Invisible Kid was a pick for The Sunday Movie Marathon podcast, the discussion for which you can listen to in episode 34. Babel (2006) - 9/10 The same night that I watched The Invisible Kid, I watched a masterful and dour drama from the director of Birdman and The Revenant. Babel calls back to an earlier movie of Iùårrituâs, called Amores Perros and as I was informed while we watched this for the podcast, it turns out Babel is part of a trilogy alongside the aforementioned film. More thoughts in episode 34 of the podcast. Snake Eyes (1998) - 1/10 After feeling thoroughly emotionally wiped out after Babel, we immediately watched another recommendation for the podcast: Snake Eyes, starring Nicolas Cage. This was a truly underwhelming experience and for more of a breakdown into what makes this movie so bad, you can listen to us talk about it on the podcast.

our secret place / r.b
Pairing: Regulus Black x Reader
Summary: Youâve grown used to taking autumn walks by yourself but werenât agaisnt having someone join you
Prompt:Â Going For A Walk
Words: 1.6k
A/N: This is my piece for @eleven-times-livelyââ and @masterofthedarknessâââ A Very Harry Potter Halloween event. bro it was 1:21am when i wrote this because i forgot i had to have this posted for today
Dried leaves littered the ground in hues of red, orange, yellow and brown. The trees were bare and the air was becoming cooler with every passing day. Winter was getting close which meant you had limited time to enjoy the autumn weather before snow would pack down.Â
For the past six years you enjoy your autumn walks alone, or at least tried to. After your third year you had grown used to the feeling of loneliness but that didnât stop the feeling entirely.
Before you were sent to Hogwarts, you would take autumn walks with your friends and family. It became a tradition to spend at least one day out in a forest or park where the leaves crunched beneath your feet. It was one of your fondest memories and one thing you missed the most while away at Hogwarts. Taking those walks alone felt lonely and going on walks during the summer time with your friends and family felt different. You quickly realized that youâd have to settle for those walks.Â
From time to time youâd miss the laughter and conversations made during those walks you once took with friends and family but you knew there was nothing you could quite do to fill that void. Your friends didnât seem to like the idea of walks, finding there to be âbetter things to do insteadâ as they phrased it so you had stopped offering and just went by yourself.
Youâd be a little sad at first when you started your walks, wishing for one of them to run up and join you but it never happened. You could only dream.
Today you took the same path as you always did. The narrow path behind Hagridâs Hut which, after a few twists and turns, would lead you to a wider walking trail lined with tall trees. If youâd walk far enough, youâd even come across a pond with ducks and frogs and flowers all around it. The area was beautiful and even more during the autumn season. You had discovered the area when you were taking an old route back in fourth year and had gotten lost. This resulted in you ending up near the pond for the first time and after you found an easier way of reaching it, you made sure to visit it as much as possible to bask in its beauty.Â
When you neared the pond, you stopped frozen in your tracks when you heard laughter from the pond. You were certain that no one knew about it but if someone had found it, why have you never ran into them before and more importantly, why today.Â
Debating on whether you should turn around to leave or stay to find out who it was, you eventually chose the lather and quietly walked towards the source of the laughter.
Their back was facing you as they crouched down at the lake. A flock of ducks in the water were in front of them and you assumed that was the cause of their laughter. Ducks were amusing creatures after all. As the figure of the boy at the pond became clearer to you, you had briefly forgotten about being quiet which led you to walk into a tree.Â
âOw. Stupid tree!â You muttered, scowling at the tree as you rubbed your arm which thankfully, didnât get cut on the rough bark.Â
âAre you okay?â The boy from the pond asked, now standing in front of you with a concerned expression.Â
âOh yeah, I am. Thank you.â
You had felt like you had seen him before but you couldnât exactly pinpoint how. There was just something about his grey eyes that seemed so familiar to you.
âHow did you find this place?â He asked you.
âFound it back in fourth year. Well, I technically got lost and stumbled in but same thing.â You replied causing him to chuckle. You raised a brow at him before asking: âSomething funny?âÂ
The boy didnât stop like you had expected him to but instead smiled at you. âYes, I find your story rather funny. Probably because I found it the same way as well, except it was second year for me instead.â He said, finding your shocked expression amusing and another reason to laugh. âDid you think that only you knew about this place too?âÂ
Embarrassed for having thought you were lucky to have found a secret spot all for yourself, you faced the ground and nodded. Hopefully he would assume it was the autumn breeze that was making your cheeks red and not because you were feeling embarrassed.Â
âWell then, seeing as for the past four years Iâve only seen you here, it can be our little secret. I doubt the other students would have the nerve to go so deep into the forest.â He suggested and you smiled at him, an action he mirrored back before realizing he hadnât introduced himself and extended his hand. âRegulus Black by the way.âÂ
So that was why he seemed so familiar. The Blacks were a well-known pureblood wizarding family in Great Britain. Aside from being one of the most noble and ancient pureblooded families left, they were also known for their good looks. Notable features of the Blacks were cool grey eyes and black unruly locks, both of which Regulus had inherited. It was a wonder how you havenât recognized him sooner.
â(Y/N) (Y/L/N).â You replied as you shook his hand. It was cold, you noticed, soft but quite cold.Â
âHow have I never seen you here?â Now it was your turn to ask the questions. He had mentioned that heâs only ever seen you here before so that would have meant you shouldâve seen him as well.Â
âI didnât want to bother you.â Was his answer and a wave of realization washed over you.Â
âAnd thatâs what Iâm doing right now. Oh god Iâm so sorry, I can leave if youâd like?â You offered with a weak smile. Perhaps you shouldnât have decided to investigate who the person by the lake was. Especially when heâs been purposely making sure not to bother for the past two years. Merlin you were an idiot.Â
âNo no, itâs alright. I donât mind you being here, honestly. It is our secret little place now after all.âÂ
You scanned his face for any sign of lying and/or silent pleading for you to go away but you found none. He genuinely didnât mind you being here when he couldâve been alone and despite only having met him five minutes ago, you didnât mind having him here either.Â
âWell since itâs our little secret, how do you feel about going on a walk?â It felt like you were holding your breath as you waited for his reply.Â
You had to stop yourself from signing in relief when he said: âIâd like that.â with a small smile. You mirrored the expression before motioning for him to stand by your side before walking down the pathway that led towards the pond. The two of you walked for what felt like hours but the fact didnât seem to bother any of you. A majority of the time you were both too busy laughing or talking to notice anyways.Â
It wasnât until when the sun had started to set behind the mountains that the two of you realized just how long you have been out. Extending his hand out for you to take, you hesitated for a moment before clasping your hands in his. When you were firmly holding his hand he smiled at you before running , catching you off-guard and pulling you along with him.
When you were finally able to match his pace and run alongside him, still hand in his, the two of you laughed as you imagined what would happen if Filch had caught you sneaking back into school when students were supposed to have been in their Common Rooms.Â
âIf we get caught youâre buying me a Butterbeer.â You said when you neared the school.Â
âDeal.â He replied before walking inside the school with his still holding your hand.Â
The halls were empty and you could hear the faint noise coming from the Great Hall. You could both probably make it there without getting caught if luck was on your side.Â
âStudents in the corridor! Students in the corridor!â Filchâs voice echoed through the hall that you and Regulus were walking through.Â
âShit.â You heard Regulus mutter before turning the corner and running down the hall. The two of you ran through many different corridors and hallways before he pulled you into an empty classroom and locked the door. It was then that he had finally let go of your hand.
The two of you stood there, hands on your knees as you tried to catch your breath before breaking out into a fit of laughter.Â
âDid you see his face?âÂ
âNo, I was too busy trying to make sure he didnât see us!âÂ
âIâve never seen his eyes go so wide you shouldâve seen it.âÂ
Silence followed after you had both calmed down. Had it been with anybody else, just standing there in front of each other, it would have been a very awkward experience but for some reason, it felt normal when you were with him.Â
Despite only knowing him for a few hours, it felt normal, like you were supposed to be doing this.Â
The two of you looked at each other with lazy smiles, enjoying the comforting silence until you opened your mouth to say: âYou still owe me a Butterbeer.âÂ
âOnly if we can do this all over again after.â He said.Â
You knew you were supposed to say no. It would risk you House Points. Bloody hell it could even risk you expulsion if you were to get caught enough times and yet you agreed and shot him a warm smile.Â
âAs long itâs with you.âÂ

Hargreeves Mansion Layout: Third Floor & Fire Escapes
Iâm so sorry that its been so long! My dog ate my charging cable and all my pics were on my laptop :(
Anyway. See parts 1 & 2 for 1st and 2nd floors! Part 4 (basement) coming soon!
The third floor of the Hargreeves mansion is my favorite, and also the one we see the least. So here we go!
Hereâs my overview of both parts of the house with the courtyard in the middle.
But lets go into more detail. Starting with the half of the house for ânormalâ life.
So the only rooms we really see of this floor are Fiveâs room and the small section of the attic Iâve marked. We know that thereâs more to the attic since we see it through the archway (why its separated I have no clue) but thatâs all weâre shown. We never enter it. We also see from the high up shots that there is a sort of rooftop terrace and such, this is most likely on a floor above the third floor but as I have no idea what to do with all that extra room, Iâve decided that it makes more sense for it to be all on one level.
Lets start with Fiveâs room.
Fives room is the one we see the most on this floor. Its weirdly bigger than the others by a good bit. Only Klausâ room is equal in size or bigger but thatâs because it used to be 2 rooms.
We donât know if Five has always written his math on the walls like a mad man, or if it was a learned apocalypse behavior since it was unlikely paper could survive the fiery blast. I can see him doing it when he was young, just like Klaus did in his room when he scribbled what the ghosts were saying in black marker on his walls.
Fiveâs room is untouched from when he disappeared, and its sort of childish for the old man we know him to be. Which is sad to me.
This is the only view we get of the 3rd floor hallway. In my layout Iâve moved the stairs since the way they had them doesnât make sense (please film in one location this is very frustrating). For me the stairs come up horizontally between the two rooms since they turn halfway up, even though I did mark the whole hallway as the stairs on my drawing like an idiot.
Fun fact (and something I only noticed upon rewatch): In the flashback scene with the mission alarm, the stairs are on the left, and their across from a few of the childrenâs rooms. This makes sense with where the stairs are in the above shot (the right wall). But in the sequence where we actually see Vanya walk through the house and up to Fiveâs room, the stairs are in a semicircular room with several doors and on the opposite wall, which doesnât work with the house in any way.
The door on the left of the hall is obviously Fiveâs room since we enter it so much, but we never see whatâs in the room on the right. I must assume itâs Bens room since it doesnât make sense for it to be anywhere else. This is either a crazy coincidence, or a hint to Reginaldâs Monocle being able to see the future like in the comics. Because what sequence of events could ever lead to the two children who die/dissapear to share a whole floor alone and separate from the rest?
Anyway.
This is the other room we see on this floor, the Attic. We only see it three times. In the above scene with Allison, when Klaus gets tied up to get sober, and when Luther is staring at the moon.
The door on the left is the one out into the hall, and the archway is the only view we get into the rest of the attic. If you squint you can see a door in that part of the attic, I think that this is the greenhouse entrance, but more on that later.
Outside of the Attic is a small balcony type section that is, from context clues, a fire escape landing.
I think the only way this makes sense as a functional fire escape, especially on the third floor, is if there are stairs going downward on the left side. This also makes sense with the location of Fiveâs bedroom window and its fire escape a few feet to the left.
Looking at the show and rewatching season one episode three - where Five climbs down the fire escape - this is what I came up with:
Sorry that its messy, its just a quick sketch I did, unlike the other pictures.Â
So in the scene we see Five crawl out of his window, go down a staircase, turn left, walk across the landing in front of Diegoâs window, and climb down a ladder.
Looking at my layout of the first two floors, the room that Five passes, and Ben is sitting in front of, is Diegoâs room. And thatâs where Iâve placed the staircase (thatâs what the diagonal lines are - stairs). Iâve done the same for the attic since thatâs the only way it works. I have one long landing for the second floor, and while I donât think thatâs how fire escapes work, Iâm keeping it. Then thereâs ladders down to the bottom on both sides for equal escape opportunities, and then thereâs windows for Graceâs rooms.
Oh, and Klausâ dumpster.
You can ignore the diagonal lines around the top two windows, thatâs just me signifying where the roof is. And I wrote down and crossed out Vanyaâs name on purpose since it used to be her room.
Fun fact: if Five is crossing passed Diegoâs window... And Ben is sitting in front of Diegoâs window... And we look at the size of the landing... Five is walking through Ben.
Maybe not a fun fact in hindsight.
Moving on.
The rest of this floor is a rooftop terrace area.Â
There are two entrances to the roof.Â
The first is the one we see in the show. Its the greenhouse entrance we see in the scene where Allison and Luther get caught in the fort. Iâm assuming that the room we see beyond Hargreeves is the attic, so Iâve drawn it as such. We can see from the above picture that there is cobblestone around the greenhouse, so Iâve added a door out from the greenhouse into the courtyard.
The second entrance is one I added since I didnât think that the only entrance should be through a greenhouse. Iâve added a small striped box in the attic, which signifies a small staircase of 3 steps or so to the roof.
Also here on the roof is an observatory and a small open air courtyard through an archway with a gazebo (or what kind of looks like one).
Behind the Gazebo, in the front of the house, is what looks to be another room but I had no idea what to put there. Any thoughts?
Moving on to the training half of the house.
This should go faster since its all headcanon. Please ignore the paint stains and the dotted lines, those are only for me to see the 3 sections of the house where walls have been knocked down.
So the blue striped box is still the staircase from the race scene flashback that goes through this entire section of the house. Through the doors to the left is (finally) the library. In my mind there are no shelves against any wall besides the top one. and both side walls are made entirely of glass with shelves in the middle of the room. I forgot to draw in the bathroom door but its right next to the library one, no door to the bathroom inside the library.
Then on the bottom, through the library, there is a hallway giving access to 3 rooms. One is Hargreevesâ lab, for experiments and the like. Then there is his invention lab, for machines and creating training devices. Then there is his file room. Its large since he seems to be immortal until killed or injured severely enough. And it had records of all his purchases, inventions, aliasâ, diaries, notes, and the academy records from being bought. Mothers names, places of origin, price, and such. Then to the right we have the Memorabilia Hall. This is where Hargreeves kept all the souvenirs from the supervillain level villains. Things like laser guns, alien tech, robots, bio weapons, etc etc etc.
Then thereâs the Helipad and bridge to the other half of the house. This is the only other entrance besides the ground floor one. You may have noticed that I did not add a door to the Helipad. This was on purpose. Wherever in the house the children may be, they would need to run to the locker room to change and then run upstairs to the Helipad. I feel Hargreeves wouldnât like them going up there for no reason so thatâs why you would have to go through the whole house to reach it. Inconvenient. But probably extra training in his mind.
Thatâs it! Iâll be back with part 4! The Basement!

Secondary Toast Revolving Door, Part 1
I guess I should start with a little about me, since thatâs easier than making you pick through previous asks for information and some of you guys are new here. This oneâs going to be heavily personal, so you can skip it if you want.
Iâm a double Bird. My Bird primary system is heavily Badger influenced, and I also use Lion to support it by telling me when I should investigate something more closely. If we can dip into primary territory for a moment, I guess you can say I understand the world through systems that model things around me. But not all of those systems are things Iâve consciously examined, or fully investigated.
My understanding of how historical people dressed is pretty limited, for example, because I havenât studied it in depth to get all the informationâbut I consciously understand what I do know about it. You could say this system piece is tiny but clear; I could expand it if I chose to find out more.
My understanding of how someone Iâm not close to thinks might have more data to work with, but I havenât consciously processed it; thatâs the kind of thing where my Lion primary model will tell me to look closer if that person starts acting weird. This system piece might be described as huge but fuzzy; I could clarify it if I sat down and thought about it. I probably have more of these than I realize, but Lion basically takes care of monitoring those. I donât have to investigate everything.
But some of my systems are both large and fairly clear, because Iâve taken the time both to gather data on them and to examine it. My understanding of myself is⌠well, I wonât say itâs terribly clear, because Iâm in my early twenties and Iâm still constantly getting new information, plus someone keeps changing the environment and mucking with my data (that would be me). But I have to examine it, because my brain is like a notoriously buggy piece of software and Iâm the poor schmuck saddled with tech support duties.
Basically, the reason Iâm good at playing therapist with other people is that Iâm constantly doing exactly that thing with myself. (This probably makes me a very annoying patient for actual therapists.)
About that buggy brain, then.
I have major depression. That was professionally diagnosed when I was a teenager and itâs probably genetic. I take medication for it, when I remember to. It especially flares up in the winter or when Iâm under stress. I probably have some kind of anxiety disorder too.
Iâm almost certainly autistic, which Iâve never brought up with a professionalâthe first person to figure it out was the system Iâm now best friends with, because theyâre autistic and they knew I was within two weeks of talking to me. It took me two years to catch up with them and figure it out myself.
In my defense, I thought executive dysfunction, sensory overwhelm, dissociation, and hyperempathy were like⌠secret menu items for depression, because those only really bug me during depressive episodes. My current theory is that theyâre related to autistic burnout instead.
I mask a lot, subconsciouslyâitâs actually really hard to turn that off normallyâand I just canât do that as much when depressed. If I do, my tolerance for everything else goes way down and Iâll go into overwhelm and start having shutdowns and dissociating. I recover pretty quickly (hours, not days), but if youâve never spent 15 minutes standing in a Walmart aisle trying to decide whether you want a jar of peanut butter, but you canât make decisions because you canât access your emotions and you donât really feel like youâre âhereâ but you kind of just want to go home⌠well, be glad I guess.
Of course, I have other autistic traits that show up when Iâm not under stress, but theyâre seldom associated with autism because most people donât know what autis are like when weâre actually happy. Like, hyperlexia? Thatâs not even an âofficialâ word, the auti community just uses it because âofficialâ literature hasnât caught up. I taught myself to read at age three (according to my mom; she says I was reading news headlines and stuff, not just books Iâd memorized) and wrote a 35k word novella when I was ten, with no external prompting. My audio processing used to be terrible, but I routinely tested at college age reading levels as a kid.
I also might have ADHD? If so, itâs also mostly just noticeable if Iâm under stress, and then itâs hard to tell if thatâs the issue or if itâs just autism/depression again.
You might be getting a clearer picture of how my secondary and its model end up burnt so often!
(Resisting a very strong urge to cut stuff from this post.)
In short, I was a Gifted Kid. I spent a lot of my teen years biting off more than I could chew, honestly. I felt that I should be able to do more, and I wanted to be taken seriously, but I had basically no idea how to take care of myself because my needs are different from everyone elseâs. Iâm still figuring those out.
Iâm kind of like an orchid plant: incredibly picky about conditions, wants a different âsoilâ and watering schedule, gets stressed if stuff changes too quickly, but when everything is just right and it does bloom, it goes all out.
Iâm not kidding when I say that I have odd needs. One of them is the need for creative work, which seems to be hardwired into me. When I say that art or writing keeps me sane, I often hear back âoh yeah! Iâve heard that can be very therapeutic,â which is an innocuous reply, but itâs always bugged me, and I think Iâve figured out why.
First, because thatâs not the reason I make things⌠I just have to. Second, I canât âmake upâ not doing creative work with some other kind of therapy. Third and most importantly, Iâd much rather think of âartistâ as my ground state, and depression as a condition that happens when my needs arenât being met, rather than thinking of depression as the default that Iâm just using art to escape from. That seems to me a healthier way of thinking, and probably a more accurate one, but Iâm probably the only one who can see that distinction.
If life gets in the way and I canât make space for creative work, it will actively make my depression worse. I know this because, multiple times, Iâve been unable to pinpoint why Iâm feeling shitty, and then I go back to my easel or my writing or (ukulele, cooking, even just taking care of houseplants) and realize I havenât done anything creative in like a month and thaaaatâs the problem.
I crack open a bottle of gesso to prep some canvases and it smells like⌠well, I donât think you can get high off gesso? But itâs not like when youâre out of it on painkillers or cold medicine or whatever. Itâs incredibly grounding, like the world snaps back into focus but itâs also oddly euphoric. Or I write ten thousand words in a couple days and it just⌠I donât know what that does. Iâve never run across a word for it.
The writer of Smile at Strangers (a really good memoir centered around women, anxiety, and karate) describes a similar feeling in relation to her martial arts practice.
Itâs also a bit like when all the snow melts after winter and you step outside and thereâs the smell of wet soil under sunlight and Iâm not sure if this fully translates for people who donât have seasonal depression. Sorry.
Dammit, I want to paint⌠I havenât had space to set up for like eight months. Iâve been nose-deep in writing projects since last summer for a reason, but right now my friggin Ravenclaw secondary is off angsting about something because of Life Stress Bullshit, and I donât have the focus to work on any of my writing projects. Apart from this one. But itâs not really what I want in terms of creative work.
*velociraptor screech*
Oh, yeah. I guess I could mention this is why my nickname is Paint. Not sure if that was obvious before. The header image (which is more visible in the app for some reason) is one of my paintings. Itâs a tiny one and itâs not one of my favorites, but I had the photo on my phone and the colors work well enough for what I needed.
(restrains self from negging my own painting ability)
This is starting to get into spoiler territory for what burned Ravenclaw secondary looks like, huh? Itâs peaced out for a couple weeks at this point. Iâm trying to write about what made it take off, but my ability to think of words and form a coherent sentence kinda flew out the window when I approached it directly.
Letâs just say that around the start of the month, someone I was talking to online (if youâre reading this, itâs definitely not you) kindaaaa hit a nasty depression trigger of mine. Not their faultâitâs very specific to me, and I struggle to explain why I canât really talk about it. Basically, I spent years studying programming and web design, and due to several different but related issues during that experience, itâs now a trigger for me. I very much want it not to be, but trying to train that out of myself has induced more than one panic attack and Iâm stuck between giving up on it or figuring out a way to go back to it that doesnât totally shut my brain down.
That paragraph took forever to write, by the way.
I think I have to end this here. I⌠am going to go take out the trash, and water my plants, and make my bed, and file some paperwork, and maybe Iâll even mix up some bread dough or do some laundry. Spoiler alert for what it looks like when my Hufflepuff model takes over, I guess.
Oh. And I should maybe probably eat something. I almost forgot about that... again.

sharing a short dousy video edit i made.
i don't know why but i really like this and thought i'd share it on here too.
should i rant about what goes in my head while making this video? no. will i? yes.
basically the song is beginning middle end by leah nobel from to all the boys i've loved before part 3. this song is basically about two people falling in love from the early years of their lives. since lara jean and peter met when they were kids. but then started (fake) dating in high school and their adventure together started right then and there. anyway, watch the movies if you haven't already. this song fits lara jean and peter so well (i don't know if it was written specifically for them or not).
but daisy and sousa didnt meet when they were kids because of one obvious reason: when daisy was a kid, sousa's dead; and when sousa was a kid, daisy hadn't been born yet. they weren't supposed to meet. so their journey started off separately.
daisy's beginning in shield was rocky, to say the least. but she found a home there with coulson, fitzsimmons and may (i'll get to ward) in season 1. they bonded quite quickly, mainly daisy skye and coulson. i think it shifts when she got shot by ian quinn. everyone in the team, especially ward was terrified and angry at the situation. now. she had a relationship with miles early on in the season, which was broken off. but within the context of the song, her beginning was ward. he was her s.o. she was falling for him when she uncovered that he's hydra. add that trauma to the ones she already had prior to shield. no wonder she has trust issues.
her middle was her powers. even though the story started early in the series, it's still the middle. because she struggled with her powers throughout seasons 2 - 5. the middle would always be the bulk of it all. it's where everything happens. it's the crux of a character, of a person. it's where daisy became daisy. now, in the middle of her middle (pun very much intended), was lincoln. the first inhuman who helped her and understood her. i'm sure they've got their own problems and everything, but it doesn't change the fact that he was someone who knew what she's going through. none of her found family could help her the way he could. this is where i think it gets interesting. seasons 2 - 5, where i said was her middle, and basically the peak/climax of daisy as a character, she was falling for and fell for lincoln. it was known that daisy was still in love with lincoln in season 5. possibly around 2 years after he died. but then we found out that she had moved on from lincoln in the beginning of season 6.
season 6 and 7 is the end of her journey with the team. they're still a family. just a family who occassionally see each other. now in season 6, like i mentioned previously, it was acknowledged that daisy had moved on. the past will always be with her, no doubt. the trauma would stick. hopefully just bits and pieces. but it would still be there until she either had alzheimer's, dementia, any other retrograde amnesia injuries or diseases, or the day she died. she would never forget lincoln or ward, heck even miles. she won't forget her past. unless it was taken away from her. so, back to the topic at hand, she wanted her own fitz. she had grown from the woman she was in the beginning, she had grown from the woman and superhero that she was in the middle. she knows who she is now. with the people she worked with. and the people she calls her family. and also with anyone. daisy's ending was perfect (to me at least). she wasn't looking for love right then and there. she was burnt one too many times. but she wanted that kind of love and support. the love and support that fitz and simmons have for each other. something that daisy lacked all her life. she ended up with someone who gave her what she wanted. and what she needed.
with sousa, it's a little different. because we didn't get to see much of his background and family life. we didn't get to know what his life was like during the war and before the war. we begin to see him in the ssr. we all knew, literally everyone knew, even the characters knew that sousa's practically in love with peggy. except for maybe peggy herself. but i'm sure she had an inkling. she definitely had an inkling. but then things go on and he became chief of the west coast office and he was in los angeles while peggy was in new york. he moved on (or so we thought). he started dating violet and was ready to marry her. he told her he loved her. and he did. it's just that he was also in love with peggy. still. and violet saw that. it's as clear as day. and they broke it off.
we didn't get to see much of sousa's middle. mainly because ac wasn't renewed for a third season. which was such a waste because it ended with so many things left unanswered. but we know that between 1947 - 1955, peggy and sousa broke up. we have no idea why. we don't know if steve was back. nada. all we know is that they broke up. when did they break up? again. no idea. but we know that peggy means a lot to sousa. she's like (sorta; i don't like making comparisons but anyway) sousa's lincoln in a way (i'm not saying that they're the exact replica. daisy/lincoln and peggy/sousa are quite different. but they do have similarities. those pairings are the kind where they want to be together forever but knew that it wouldn't work; my interpretation). she didn't die, we know that. but she's sort of the one that got away. my guess is that it's because shield and the world was more important than each other. which wasn't dissimilar to daisy and lincoln's situation. so, yes. peggy's sousa's middle. she influenced him a lot. and he found himself amidst ssr and shield (just like daisy did).
sousa's end was again, perfect. he went to the future. got to see what the organisation he helped build came to be. he went on an adventure to explore space. which he would geek out over. instead of dying, he got to live. with the love of his (new) life. he may be a man out of time, but with daisy and their ragtag family, he is right where he belongs.
daisy and sousa began with "who the hell are you" and ended with "it's beautiful" (just putting this here because i love that fact).
so. they started pretty quickly, didn't they? 4 episodes in and sousa fell in love with daisy. 7 episodes in and daisy fell in love with sousa. though i doubt that they thought they're in love. but they're falling. or walking towards it. 7x03 was when they met. it's where it all began. in area 51 of all places (foreshadow much?). but what's even more interesting is that technically, they began twice. from daisy's perspective, they met in 6x13 (which plenty of people had pointed out; but @agents-of-fangirling was the most recent). even though they didn't actually meet because sousa was wearing that blue (seriously his colour really is blue) hazmat suit and daisy was disoriented (may dying and all that jazz). but from sousa's perspective, they met in 7x03. where they actually made eye contact and conversed. how many couples can say that the when of their first encounter was debatable?
now. their middle, in the video edit, i used the scene from 7x10. because i think that's a pretty good middle. they had their first first kiss. sousa had no idea that happened. yet, there he was, wanting to help. just like his time-loop self. he extended a hand and she accepted. she accepted help. do you know how much of a development that was??? because i think that it's a huge character development (i still haven't rewatched so don't take my word for it). i think that's a good depiction of their middle. oh yeah. before i forgot. they also had two first kisses. and again, i say, how many couples can say that they had two first kiss? figured i'd choose the scene in the middle of those first kisses (pun intended lmao).
sidenote: did y'all see the devastation in her eyes when sousa volunteered to stay in the 80s? or how her eyes went wide and she started to panic when he was injected in the time loops? sousa's a man of action. and when he says something, he means it. so, his constant concern over daisy and him wanting to help in any way he can, it's his love language.
and then we have their ending. the perfect end to an imperfect couple (because nobody's perfect *cue hannah montana*). daisy got sousa a typewriter. because he's from the 50s. since when did daisy buy gifts for her boyfriends/partners/lovers? and they watched e.t. together? that's normal couple things. even though they are far from normal. but they get to experience it all together. daisy didn't get to in the past. none that we know of anyway. and now she does. also, that smile when she talks about him. that fond smile that grazed her lips at the thought of him. i've never seen her smile like that before (none that i remember; and if she did, well then i'm so so happy for her). she looks happy. serene. and her saying "he's a dork" twice in the season just makes my heart burst with happiness for them.
sidenote: my headcannon is that "he's a dork" is code for "i love him too much to explain it in words."
i'd like to believe that even though it has ended, their story has just begun. they're going through their middle right now. and i hope that they won't end. in other words, their end was not an ending. it was a beginning of a new life.
as daisy said, "we're loving the journey together." keyword: journey. it's a long road up ahead. with countless of challenges and obstacles in the way. but in the end, all that matters is that they face it together.
that's it. thanks for coming to my ted talk (for those who actually read it all the way through, i love you).

My How I Met Your Mother Thoughts
I just spent the last nine seasons in New York with the gang that spends all their time in MacLarenâs Pub. SELF FIVE! I have to say, this binge of How I Met Your Mother brought me so much happiness. I started watching this show for the first time back in high school, and I ended up watching the last six seasons as they aired. I remember loving this group of characters, and now I am reminded why. Thereâs so much chemistry between the five, and it makes for one of my favorite Comedies/Sitcoms of all time. If youâve read any of my previous Show Thoughts, then you know Iâve been watching several over the course of this lovely Pandemic That Will Just Keep Going. After this rewatch, Iâve decided HIMYM is my third favorite Comedy/Sitcom, right after Boy Meets World and Scrubs.
Now, I know that the Finale is infamous. Itâs in the Mount Rushmore of Terrible Endings, and people end up getting a sour taste in their mouth when they bring up the show. Well, itâs been some years. Thereâs been time to reflect and look back. And, while Iâm not in favor of the Finale, I also donât hate it anymore with the passion of a thousand suns. I just loved watching and growing with the gang, seeing them experience their highs and their lows, their triumphs and their failures. It just hits harder as an adult, like most of these shows assuredly do, and I cherish so many of these episodes and moments.

And now, just some thoughts on the show and on the gang!
Ted - I know people donât like Ted. I donât actually like Ted all that much. And yet, I found myself rooting for Ted just like I did the first go around. Heâs not the worst person in the world, and I would be scared to see half of the decisions weâve made in the dating game stringed together into a TV show. I know people wouldnât like me very much for those decisions. Then again, I also donât get super crazy about details about buildings, I donât pronounce encyclopedia that way, and he tends to stick his foot in his mouth with this White Man confidence that I just donât have. With all that being said, I still find Ted being a great friend, a man who is just trying to find the love of his life, and someone who really drives this story with great tales and narration (Bob Saget is the Sixth Man of the Show for just always bringing it). I think Ted does stupid things and he pretty much admits it after the fact. He learns, sometimes, and also doesnât much like most of us. When he finally found the Mother, when he finally found Tracy, I cared. I cared so much, and I still do. Even though they just shit on her character and donât give us enough time with her, I almost wonder if thatâs a metaphor for the fact that you wonât always have enough time with your loved ones.
Robin - Letâs go to the mall! Yeah! Robin Sparkles is a Canadian Treasure, and so is Robin Scherbatsky. She is one of the best things about this show, and I love her so. Played by Cobie Smulders who I need to see in more stuff, Robin is who we all wanted Ted to maybe be with first. Then we go through all the loops of the HIMYM roller coaster, and a lot of us still wanted them to be together. I was one of them. Yet, she was more than just a romantic plot line for Ted. She was a part of the group who we got to see join it and evolve into a member of their family organically. Robin is fun, loud, full of fun quirks that we get to learn over the course of the series. I was heartbroken when we found out she canât have children. I was loving the back and forth between her and Barney (the first time), and kind of mad at Barney about being such a crazy ass prankster the second time. Robin shows us just how amazing some gun loving, hockey obsessed Canadian news anchor can be, and how much she cares for her friends.
Lily - Justice Aldrin ends up being one of my favorite characters, even if that gets some curious looks. Yeah, she left Marshall for a summer. Yeah, she had some hesitancy with the marriage and everything. That happens. Lily was also always there for her friends, even if she ends up going a little overboard. She wants Ted to find happiness, and does whatever she can to help. She is there to listen to Robin at all times, and her and Marshall are easily one of the best relationships in TV Iâve ever witnessed. Then we have Lily and Barney which is honestly super underrated. Barney trusts Lily, even though she canât keep a secret, with all of his emotional problems. Lily is who thought Barney could change before anyone else, and I love seeing their friendship grow from eye rolls to eye tears.
Barney - Oh, Barney. He honestly brings so much annoyance and fun to the show. Heâs the friend of the gang who everyone tolerates. Heâs the one in the gang who everyone ends up loving just as much as everyone else. Barney shows such a terrible face to the world, sleeping with over 250 women and lying to most of them. He has all these rules that arenât very ethical. He gives us most of the Misogynism in this show, which is definitely prevalent and makes the show not as strong as it was in the first watch. Still, we get to see Barney grow into someone who wants real love and a happy life. Sure, they show us that his marriage to Robin only lasts three years, but at least they tried. Barney just couldnât make it work, and thatâs honestly who Barney really is. A person who just enjoys sleeping with different people. I was very warmed to see the baby reveal and that Barney becoming a dad was what would change him more than anything. Barney is an underrated friend, and his importance to the gang is legendary.
Marshall - I. Love. Big Fudge. Heâs just so fun, caring, goofy, loyal, and everything that I aspire to be in life. For some reason, when watching the show the first time, I related to Ted the most. I was definitely a bit more selfish then. But now, I see that I am a Marshall. He wants to do good in the world, and it drives him so much. He only loves Lily, and his loyalty to their relationship is just Goals. He is also the most fun to watch having a crisis. He gets the big eyes and covers his mouth and just gets obviously super uncomfortable. Some of my favorite moments of the show are also Marshallâs talks with Ted about his feelings for Robin. Any one-on-ones with Marshall and someone else are probably my favorite moments. And yes, I will always root for him over those damn machines!
Last Thoughts:
Sure, the writing wasnât as sharp or as witty in the later seasons, but I loved the story lines and seeing the gang just live.
Tracy was an amazing character as The Mother, and I truly wonder what could have been if they had given us two full seasons of story with her instead of any episodes of Jeannette.
I really canât believe Ted told his kids all those stories. A fun premise for a show, but really, not very realistic telling them all that jazz.
Ranjit and Carl are such fun recurring characters that I always enjoyed seeing every time they popped up.
Out of all the recurring jokes and gags, which there are many (yâall said Community has so many, but HIMYM really swings for it), I love the Major/General salute joke. Idk if I just didnât care for it the first time around or forgot about it, but I just love how silly it is and how they kept it through to the very last episode.
Watching the gang sit at their table in MacLarenâs just hanging out will always make me smile.

So i did one of these for last season and I think now that Iâve had some time to think about S4 Iâll do the same. While last season I thought the issue was one character being overused. But here it seems like there were multiple smaller things that could have improved the whole season Again Iâm keeping the same basic plotline and characters :)Â
1) WinstonÂ
Have Winston stay at Hillcrest. Him moving to Liberty did nothing for the main plot and he was basically a red herring through most of it. Let him try are befriend the characters from the outside. He can learn about Jess from Bryceâs trial and the news coverage and then try to befriend her at Monetâs. This is where he meets and later starts to date Alex. Since he doesnât go to liberty school Alex sees him as a sort of escape and lets him in. Clay and Ani dont tell everyone about him because they dont know he is trying to get close to them. It makes them seem less like assholes and more like people. They donât mention his connection to Monty because they dont realize how close he is getting to answers. Clay can still suspect he did the graffiti, after all it was a break in and a non student could have done that. Plus Estella is another red herring in the school. She serves that purpose so let Winston be the outsider looking in. His arc would still be about knowing a different Monty and not knowing who is was at Liberty but now he is literally the outsider who didnât really get Monty, rather than it just being a figurative thing at the prom. You can still have the prom scene it would just be entirely imagined rather than the half imagined thing they went with. I think they overused the people talking to ghosts thing so here it would be a fantasy of Monty and the relationship they had rather then a representation of what could have been. However I donât think this would have retracted from the point. Also play him up, he is a sympathetic antagonist and it sucks how much he is sidelined for Diego. I didnât hate Diego but Winston and him basically went through the same arc. They were pro Monty and ending up dating a member of the group, couldnt believe that member was involved and then learned something about Bryce and Monty agreed to move on and just did. All while saying they will alway care for that member of the group. It was an unnecessary rehash. Having WInston be the outsider looking in and Diego the insider looking out also lets their characters compliment each other. They should still work together, just have Winston contact him looking for Montyâs friends. Itâs simple.Â
2) Tyler and TonyÂ
Oh Tyler. The character who seems to be in the middle of everything despite never doing anything himself. I didnât mind his arc of helping the cops find the guys who sold the illegal guns. But Tonyâs suspicions, eventually leading to Clay and Tony finding out the truth and just moving on never really go anywhere. I think it would be cool if Tyler tells Tony, despite the cops telling him not to tell anyone, because he trusts Tony. But Tony, who has had bad run ins with the cops, thinks it is a bad idea. He doesnât want Tyler taking the deal. Tyler says its the only way the guns wont be traced back to them but Tony thinks teh cops are planning to double cross them to mind out more about Bryce and Monty. At the same time he starts getting close to that cop that takes him boxing and helps him get into college (i dont remember his name for the life of me lol). Tyler sees this as being hypocritical and pulls away. Tony still suspects Tyler is behind the lock down because he is pulling away and Tony is getting paranoid. The rest of their story can still be the same but this way they can show Tonyâs paranoia and his loyalty.Â
As for Tyler and Estella, It was fine. The scene of them in the bathroom was really powerful, being in the bathroom with a de la cruz and becoming comfortable because isnt her brother was really nice. This could even be another reason Tony and Tyler fight. Tony can be paranoid that Tyler is trusting her too quickly and think she will turn on him.Â
3) Jess
Her arc with the principal, being scared and agreeing with the security measures before she sees them in action was really interesting. Focus more on it and less on her manipulating Diego. I did like parts of that arc for her so I donât want it completely gone but I do think focusing on her working with the principal would have been cool. I would call more attention to her first meeting and her agreeing with the measures and slowly show her change her mind and start to turn against them. Maybe even have an early scene of her and ANi talking about it and have Jess admit she feels safer. Move the creepy cop trying to pat her down to the second or third day. So she can have a moment where they make her feel safe before the negative experience. I loved the protest and a bit better build up would have made it amazing
Her arc with Ani. They fought over Bryce... It should have been a conversation. Not a moment where Ani judges Diego and then they argue. I still think this arc should have been Chloe and Jess and should have been in last season. But they had the opportunity to include Chloe this season and just didnt. Iâll talk about this a bit more in the Zach section but I think Chloe should have been at Prom and the moment between the Ani Jess and Chloe should have been then. It would be right after Jess and Ani made up and would have been cool.Â
I donât think she should have had scenes where she saw and talked to Bryce. Yes it created some powerful moments but they could be reworked. Have WInston use his wealth to commission a positive thing in the paper about Bryce and Monty and have her talk to his idealized photo of Bryce. I will mention it in the Clay section but her hallucinations detracted from his journey with mental health.Â
4) Clay
Okay two thing here the first is his arc with mental health, hallucinations, and blackouts. They used it for drama and I wish they hadnt. It should have been about him healing. I didnt mind the way they handled the realization for clay that it was him doing everything (Did they explain the symbol he kept drawing because I missed it if they did? or i just forgot because it was that forgettable lol) but I think the whole thing could have been handled a lot better and a more educated fan then I can provide a better explanation for what exactly was off about it. I will say the the therapy sessions were repetitive and I know thats realistic but for a tv show its boring. The scene were Clay goes to his home was weird and low key scary. I understand the purpose but I wish he had called him and asked to meet at his office instead. A more likable and relatable journey for Clay with his mental health would be really good for a show that was accused of glorying suicide (personally i dont think it did. My inbox is open if you wanna talk though :))
The second thing is the phantom phone caller. I hate this trope so it might just be me but this is so stale. There are exactly two ways it could go. The person could know everything and be a real problem or the person could be fishing for information and not be a real problem. The whole thing was predicable since Winston had red herring written all over him, Estella was barely developed, and on this show it is always the football guys. Instead let the pranks be smaller and less crazy. Like these boys had to coordinate a lot to mess with Clay. There should be more than one prank and end with a Monty doll and Clay holding a knife to set up the camp episode. But they should be pranks, not the phantom caller psychological torture bs. The blood shower can also happen just on a different day. Clay can be confused about what is real and what isnt making him even more worried about his blackouts and again assuming the mental health arc is handled well, the pranks can be a real part of it. Dumping him in the pit on the camping trip also seemed kinda attempted murdery so maybe do something like tie him to a tree of the path or in a small dirt ditch not a rocky pit where if he hit his head or fell weird the team would all be murderers.Â
5) Alex
His arc with Charlie was one of my favorite stories this season. I was also not bothered by him getting close to and exploring his sexuality with Winston and Zach. Iâm in the minority but Iâm glad Zalex wasnât made canon and Zach was used to be an effective (kinda) ally and good friend. Plus this way Zalex can live on in the fandom untouched or ruined by the writers interpretation.Â
They should have given us Alex in therapy. He tried to kill himself had a traumatic injury, an arc with steroid abuse, and an arc about killing someone. All of which were forgotten this season. All the other characters seemed to be dealing with Bryce and Monty, why not focus on Alex? Even if it isnt in therapy just let him exist in his feelings.
6) Zach
I have one major issue with Zachâs arc, the lack of Chloe. She was the reason he almost killed a man. Let them date, let him start to spiral while dating her. She doesnt know what he did. Have them grow apart on screen but her still connecting to him and not wanting to give up on him. They should go to prom together. I know the hooker was supposed to represent Zach turning into Bryce with the hookers and the drunken sex/potential rape and cocaine. But Chloe fills the same comparison. He brings cocaine she is not okay with it, He tries to convince her to have sex in the back she is not having it. Maybe he tries to convince maybe it becomes a bit worse than that but she breaks up with him at prom and leaves early. She sees Bryce in him, she doesnt have to say it but you can see it on her face and she walks away when her mind and heart tells her to this time no making excuses. Boom Chloe actually has an arc. As for Zach this is a big wake up call for him he sees what we had become. I know it is later in the actual show but I think it should be in the prom episode so he can have a better conclusion in the finale, like the other characters. The whole season was a downward spiral and I wish we got to see more of him pulling himself out of it. If the whole finale is him getting better even though he wont be all the way done he will be in a better place up the end.
7) Justin
Okay the hard one. I think the writers really wanted to kill him. I mean a fan favorite, who did bad things, and the death would be in the series finale. this is a tv writerâs drug of choice. So Iâm gonna do a fix where I still kill him first then to the ideal version. Ok so first Justin dies. No HIV/AIDS. It was out of nowhere, unneeded, and seemed a bit insensitive. If you want it to be related to his drug use, make it so he got a bad batch when he relapsed. Or maybe organ failure. If it doensât need to be drug related it can be an accident or someone he knew on the streets getting revenge, like that drug dealer we spent time with last season. Or if Justin helps Tyler put the gun salesmen behind bars then have it be retaliation for that. He can still go to the hospital and have goodbyes but it wont be an aids diagnosis and death in the same episode. I know they had signs in earlier episodes but the timeline is still really fucked up...
An ideal ending would have him live. He can still pass out at Prom. The diagnosis can be a combination of stress and withdrawal symptoms. He can be the red herring for the person in the coffin. If Justin lives he can represent hope. He can show the audience that you can get better and things can work out. Even if you are sick and think you will die you can do better be better and live in a better world. Plus I love him and really wanted him to be happy. The message would be you can get out of a bad situation and wold have ended a sad series on a positive note. Even if you are a bad person. Even if you have bad circumstance. Even if it feels like the world is against you, it can get better if you put in the effort. Which felt like the message the show was going for in eariler seasons by showing the people on the tapes doing better but abandoned this last season.
So who would I put in the coffin. Aniâs mom. Now I know she wasnât a well liked character and her mom wouldnât have the same audience or character reaction Justinâs death did. But this version isnât about making the audience sad. Ani would finally have a plot that was really about her, her mom died, Bryceâs mom basically wants to provide for her. And she isnât sure what to do. Justins funeral felt like it was overshadowed by graduation anyway. Now Aniâs moms absence and the funeral being overshadowed both make sense. She is going to college and doing what she can to honor her mom. And the death of a parent causes Clay to immediately appreciate his own family more. The theme in the first season with Clay was appreciating and acting on his feelings for Hannah before she was gone. Aniâs mom dying is a reality check for him and he know the most important things are his family and friends. Justinâs arc was about finding a family and he did. The core of the show is about family, friends, and the importance of a strong support system. And starting it with a mother grieving her daughter and ending it with a daughter grieving her mother would be a cool full circle moment.
This post is really long so if you read all the way down Thank you! :)Â

Tangled Salt Marathon - Queen for a Day Part 1
This is my personal favorite episode in the whole show and one of the strongest episodes in the series. However, even it is not without flaws, so letâs dig in.Â
Summary:Â Rapunzel takes over the kingdom while her parents go away for their anniversary. A blizzard strikes Corona, keeping everyone inside their houses, and an accident in the mountains traps Frederic and Arianna. Xavier reveals that the blizzard was a curse sent by Zhan Tiri, an evil monster who attempted to destroy Corona but was defeated and imprisoned in another realm by his enemy, alchemist Lord Demanitus, who used a device to redirect the blizzard. Meanwhile, the black rocks keep spreading in Old Corona and begin to approach the castle. Varian starts testing the mystical rocks, but his father forbids him, refusing to tell him anything. One of Varian's experiments result in the rocks trapping Quirin.
The Show Fails to Acknowledge How Quirin is in the Wrong
Look, I like Quirin, and he is of course miles better than either Frederic or Edmund. But thatâs a low bar to cover and heâs not perfect. Thereâs a reason why his relationship with Varian is strained to begin with and that reason is completely his fault.Â
This scene where he rolls his eyes and is embarrassed by his son, who is just expressing how excited he is to spend time with him, highlights the problem adequately. Quirin is neglectful. He obviously doesnât spend enough time with his child, nor gives enough positive feedback. Â
Now weâre given contexts clues as to why that is; as a leader heâs a busy man, heâs not good at communication, Varianâs made enough mistakes that he no longer trusts his son with important information, ect. This is all understandable and makes for a believable and engaging conflict. However, because the show never has Quirin verably own up to these mistakes it makes his and Varianâs resolution in season 3 feel hollow.Â
So This Plot Point No Longer Makes SenseÂ
As I pointed out in previous episodes, having Pascalâs Story and The Wrath of Ruthless Ruth come before Queen of a Day contradicts this core set up of Rapunzel being trained to take over for her parents and then left on her own for a few days. Â
This a Wasted Character Arc
Overall, Eugeneâs arc is about learning responsibility and thatâs fine. But more specifically, it was supposed to be about him learning to be a king. Heâs meant to be a mirror to Rapunzel in addition to her support. He should be learning to be a leader like she is and they both should be growing as a team; taking on the aspects of ruling that the other canât or shouldnât be doing.Â
Thatâs clearly what the writing team were shooting for in the first two seasons. Only to then promptly dump it all in season three. Giving us an asspull âconsolationâ arc instead. More on that when we get to it.Â
The Exchange Between Quirin and Frederic Isnât Expounded UponÂ
So this scene is suppose to hint that both Quirin and Frederic know more than they are letting on. The problem is we never get any follow up explaining just how much either of them knows nor whose idea it was to move the citizenry of Old Corona. Details like that are important to the plot and shouldnât have been glossed over.Â
Even if you wanted to keep up the mystery for the moment, then you should have had a scene in a later episode explaining things like this.Â
This is a Lie
Granted this is intended to be a lie for plot purposes, but then it is never followed up upon after it serves its use. Meaning Rapunzel never acknowledges her fault here. Â
This is Awful Advice
I canât stress enough just how bad this âlessonâ actually is. I had to screen cap the whole thing, itâs that awful.Â
Rapunzelâs only arc in the show is her learning to be more assertive. Now thatâs fine if weâre talking about her living the life that she wants to live. Thatâs not the same thing as dismissing others whose lives you hold in your hands though.
A leader has to listen. Thatâs part of the job. You can't just do whatever you want just cause. Just because you believe you know what's best doesnât mean you actually do.Â
Time and time again we see both Frederic and Rapunzel screw up and hurt others by following this stupid mantra. Yet despite the consequences, not once does either character acknowledge that theyâre wrong. Worst, the only people to point out their selfishness are made into villains.Â
Hear Him? He Said Months
So thereâs some matter of debate about just how long Varian was left on his own after this episode. All evidence points to several months, however in interviews the seriesâs creator claimed it was only for a few weeks. Ignoring the fact that Chris has lied to the fandom before, I have to call bullshit on that.Â
The season takes place over the course of six months, Queen for a Day is meant to the be the midseason finale. Given this line, and other context clues, it stands to reason that Queen for a Day and The Secret of the Sundrop should be three months apart.Â
However, the very fact that we have to rely on context clues and ask for clarification by the showâs writers after the fact, means that the crew has failed to showcase the passage of time correctly despite it being an important plot point.Â
The Song Contradicts The Showâs âLessonâ
I actually really like âI Got Thisâ. Itâs my third or fourth favorite song in the show and my personal favorite song to focus on Rapunzel. However, it presents to us a conflict thatâs wholly different to the one the episode is trying to tell.Â
This episode wants to teach Rapunzel about confidence and being assertive, yet here itâs her overconfidence that causes her to screw up. Sheâs not actually listening to the people and jumping ahead with ideas because she personally thinks theyâre good not because she has anything to back them up, and they wind up blowing up in her face.Â
Thatâs kind of the opposite of âlisten to your heartâ and presents to the audience that Rapunzel needs to learn a lesson in humility instead. But the show never follows through on this.Â
See Writers? You Do Know How to âShow Donât Tellâ
Look, this scene with Quirin is the best written scene in the whole show and deserves to be pointed out. We learn so much here just from the action. Not a single line of dialogue is spoken. We needed more of this in the series and less of the one line info dumps.Â
The Audience Deserves to Know Too
We never find out what Quirin is hiding from Varian. Yes, we learn of the Dark Kingdom, the Brotherhood, and of the Moonstone, but none of those things are cause for keeping Varian in the dark.Â
Quirin says heâs ânot readyâ, but thereâs nothing that we find out in the show itself that would be of any great emotional impact to Varian. Itâs poor set up and lack of resolve, once again.Â
Oh, Hi Xavier. Where Did You Come From?
Yet again the series fails to actually introduce Xavier properly. He showed up in Under Raps, but with no real establishment. I legit forgot who he was and was confused by his sudden appearance here, when I first watched the show.Â
Weâre never given an explanation of how Xavier knows what he knows nor what his stake or part in the story is. Heâs just there. Heâs the very definition of an exposition fairy if there ever was one. Â
My What a Let Down This Build Up IsÂ
Technically we do see Xavierâs story revealed in a flashback, but itâs nothing that actually explains what is going on. By the end of the series weâll know little more about the big bad of the show than what we do here in this bit of foreshadowing.
Once again, poor set up and resolve.
ConclusionÂ
So thatâs the end of part one. The episodes are broken up on Disney Plus and thereâs far too much to cover, so Iâll be breaking them up as well. Tomorrow weâll come back to second half.Â

A:TLA romantic ships part 1
yes, no one asked for my opinions, yes I will give them anyway, yes because I have decided making a bunch of meaningless decisions and arguing for them will improve my mental state, yes I watched the show all in one very sleep deprived go and iâm not interested in rewatching it so yes I have absolutely no sources, yes this is a really long grammatical nightmare because I donâ t know how to be succinct and i use way more words than necessary at any opportunity because if my point doesnâ t come across exactly like i intend it will greatly upset me, no I have not yet watched Korra or read the comics because iâm tired now letâs do this.
includes Kataang, Zutara, Jetkara, Jinko, Maiko, Sukka, Taang, Tokka, Toko Ty Lokka, Tyzula, Yukka bc these were on the Avatar wiki ship list, part two will go into gay ships more
from 0 I despise people who ship this immediately to 10 I will read absolutely anything with this, I love it and could draw it for hours on how much I think the relationship would be good and how happy it makes me
Kataang (looks like a comic book sound effect so plus points)
very clearly built up over the series
cute kid crushes also ngl did not know katara was 14 and not older 12 or 13 so didnât care about age when watching
now I know sheâs 14 and heâs 12 itâs a little weird but still
haters say katara was just the avatarâs trophy girl, as if aang didnt kiss the ground she walked on and wouldnt stop telling anyone how amazing she is. Katara was the first face he saw from the new world and they immediately became friends. she was so excited to meet another bender, he clearly is trying to impress her and it is working, he listens to her about bending and offers to take her to the other side of the world to master water, TELL ME at this moment she is not ride or die and she doesnât even know heâs the avatar, he lets her feel like a kid again, which is a feeling sheâs forgotten after years of being a mother to sokka and the children. he literally sweeps her off her feet to save her from the fire nations ship i-. rewatched boy in the iceberg and hoo boy had canon not messed it up, this ship could have been legendary
hard to imagine older them working out what with the whole last airbender, preserve air nomad culture, letâs travel the world bc nomadic lifestyle, whatâs marriage iâm a monk without biological family values vs last southern waterbender, preserve southern water tribe culture, I believe in the power of family and am ridiculously dedicated to my tribe, let me go home to my father and tribe shtick, but I donât care for after the show finishes much except for following the gang fix the world so I donât really care about the marriage issue
canon was good until that Mess in season 3, WHY did he kiss her after that speech, wish they talked that out properly, wish he learned letting go of her to open the 7th chakra was the only right decision, wish the ending was a little more vague in ships and just left things open but yk whatever
that finale kiss was sweet, they hugged foremost as friends, no blushing, and then got the fuzzies, that moment standing alone? a+ but without any talking about what happened on ember island, a little unsatisfying
overall, fine ship, not my favourite nor do I actively ship it, but I see a kataang moment, iâm like, sweet so I give it a 6
Zutara (apparently fans are zutarians which looks like an alien race, plus points)
latter half of the show had quite a lot of Zutara potential, but idk about Zutara actual
katara was so ready to drop his ass, no way at the start
there is only one dynamic between them in which I can see Zutara working and that is as in the Stalking Zuko by emletish series where katara is so distrusting over zuko she takes to stalking him to make sure he isnât doing anything to hurt Aang or about to betray them (her) again but he is just such a sweet dork who keeps trying to apologise to her even while sheâs apologising to him for being a bitch that she canât help but start to trust him, iâm a third into the third book in the series not stalking firelord zuko and I am thriving and tbh this is the only situation where I accept zutara, read the series I love it
age gap is weird, I know itâs the same difference between kataang but they made a point of zuko being older in the show also heâs so much taller and I donât like 16 year old boys with 14 year old girlfriends in real life and so would katara because jet
katara has a bad experience with bad boy sword weilders (jet) but I guess you could see it as the start of her type idk
they are both the moms of the Gaang. sokka is the fun dad.
there is a parallel between their families, with the leader of their people dad, mom who left the picture when they were young, an older brother who is not a prodigy at/canâ t bend their respective element so they become proficient at swords instead, prodigy at bending younger sister with a violent streak. this is why I see zutara as potentially a really close friendship, almost siblings, but not a romance because to me katara is a little too like azula for comfort...
tbh I think a lot of folk shipped it because ooh fire boy and water girl (not the game) thatâ s perfect, and bam army of zutarians
overall, kind of weird but ok and good grounds for humour so I give it a 4
Jetkara (bad ship name, why would you like this, minus points)
Jet is bad. yes Katara really liked him, yes he was definitely her first kiss and she would definitely consider him her first boyfriend but they would not define it because itâs easier to manipulate someone when itâs unclear what your relationship is and Jet is bad, with his weird fricking eyebrows and not even real swords those hook swords
Not wasting my time, 2
Jinko (cool name, reminds me of Hong Jinkyung, plus points)Â
short but so sweet. not the first thing people remember from watching the tales of ba sing se (brb going to rewatch and cry) but really cute, so hereâs a running commentary
his first thought was she knew they were fire nation rather than a pretty girl sat in a teashop giving him looks because she had a crush omg
that honest surprise when his uncle suggested she liked her and then she walked up and asked him on a date, adorable
anyone who looked at that god-awful hairstyle and still thought he looked cute has it bad also aww that hair ruffle and the little grab onto his arm
heâs pushing his food around and sheâs trying out ice breaker questions and recieving one word responses he has no idea what heâs doing
âshe is not my GIRLFRIENDâ heâs not over Mai, clearly but he still is trying his best to be a good date even if heâs terrible at making conversation
anyone who sat through that date and the bad lying and the stilted conversation and still thought he was cute has it badÂ
he is So Bad At Lying he just told the truth very vaguely and then bam travelling circus
jin so knows the two are fire nation, the whole date she just politely ignores the clear lies and doesnât react to the obvious firebending, what an icon we love jin
honestly I was really expecting the show to reveal that jin knew he was a firebender if not from the start then from the lights but eh I guess she can keep a secret, good for her
HE KISSED HER BACK BEFORE REALISING A RELATIONSHIP COULD NEVER GO WELL AND HE MAY HAVE ANGSTILY STORMED OFF BUT HE ADMITTED IT WAS A NICE TIME TO HIS UNCLE
that being said I canât see anything more happening but this date but omg imagine fire lord zuko coming back to visit and they become friends I-
overwhelming support for pre-date jin flirting to an oblivious zuko and the date Jinko, 8
Maiko (name would be a good name for a cat idk why)
childhood sweethearts before the banishment i think
she crushed because he saved her hair from getting burnt by tackling her into a fountain? adorable
I love mai sheâs so funny but I think not the best match for zuko? he has a lot of trauma to get over and she doesnât seem like the let all your feelings out and letâs talk about it until you feel better kind of person. it was deeply ingrained in her to keep all of her feelings and emotions strongly hidden because she got what she wanted from her politician parents so long as she was quiet, well-mannered, and perfectly behaved according to avatar wiki so I get why sheâs that way, until I was 11 I was that way too all the time, I understand freezing your face so you donât look afraid or upset or angry and risk annoying adults, but I donât think that that would fit zuko with his social ineptness
they literally broke up twice but are just assumed back together? she just surprised him and said they were back together and I think he forgot she existed
the deadpan firelady and the fire lord would be hilarious together tho she got the ruthlessness he lacks
post coronation I can see it happening, 6 but under Kataang
Sukka (terrible name lmao)
the cutest, sokka very excitedly says âSuki!! :DDDâ every time he sees her
she didnât give him the time of day until HE changed, incredible
just the best canon ship, the two nonbenders in the Gaang but very clearly shown to be important key members.
suki is sneaky and badass, rivalling zuko for position on the team as the sneaky badass one (they tie and bond over being sneaky and badass)
sokka is a great dad, he is the dad of the Gaang and he clearly loves suki and suki loves him back
sokka ships are ELITE, 9
Taang (a delicious orange drink mix that reminds me of home, nostalgia)
foreshadowing from the swamp where someone aang loved in the future really made me think taang was endgame yk
opposite elements ideology that I guess is what zutarians like also leaves everyone in the gang dating a Gaang member if zutara happens
actually the same age but not much else going for it
best friends, 4 but under Zutara
Tokka (great name of a small pet fight me)
sokka ships are elite, childhood crush turned adult strong friendship
I really like seeing the rough, tough, greatest earthbender in the world have a crush, adorable
sokka is a great friend and his and tophâs canon relationship is so sweet, I wouldnât change it
toph was fully going to give sokka a kiss on the cheek for saving her life iâm melting
age difference is too weird for a romance heâs like 16 or 17 by the end I think and sheâs 12
best friends, 10 as a relationship in the show, 2, but in their 20s after the show... 4 but under Taang
Toko (very forgettable name but both characters have 4 letters so I guess itâs hard to come up with something memorable but every time I read it as Toph because same shape ish so minus points for being annoying)
even weirder age gap than TokkaÂ
not many moments that could be considered romantic?Â
toph first accepted zuko despite him burning her feet, how she sees, which was big and they resolved problems between them quickly
toph clinging to his arm and asking for a life changing field trip caused him to blush, but I see that as him being like oh someone wants to spend time with me?? sheâs hugging me??? what is thisÂ
convenient ship for kataangers because the Gaang could be paired off as Kataang, Sukka, Toko
her crush on sokka seemed to go away or calm down when he showed up and she punched him and teased him a lot, her way of bonding
similar strict teaching styles and bonding over secret identities as Blue Spirit and Blind Bandit and parental issues and being the children of important families who made them run away to enjoy not having anything to do with politics and being nobility with impaired vision who have never stepped into a kitchen in their lives and being used to servants and then being on the run
I really see them as siblings with her helping him relax from his duties as fire lord because you already know this boyâs sense of honour is going to make him work tirelessly to fix the world and him helping her relax from the whole iâm not a fragile, weak little blind girl, iâm the greatest earthbender in the world shtick and reminding her she can be both a blind 12 year old girl and the most powerful earthbender in the world, she can accept help without being weak or lesser than anyone, people want to help because they care not that they pity you
best friends 10, relationship in show 1, after show 3
Ty Lokka (I donât like this name looks like a place but can think of nothing better)
yeah I guess ty leeâs obvious flirting is grounds for a ship but in every interaction heâs involved with someone else and doesnât seem to like her as a person
do they even interact while on the same side?
friendly aquaintances at best, donâ t understand, 2 but above Jetkara
Tyzula (donât like this name, like a mineral water?)

Sokkaâs love for Yue stays with him for the rest of his life, she was the first person to die in front of him and he sees the moon as her facing the earth
love this forbidden lovers content, sokka ships stay elite
Sokka and Yue spend as much time together as possible with secret midnight dates flirting (âyou wanna do an...activity together?â)Â Sokkaâs reaction to Yueâs engagement shows that he wants to have a serious relationship with her, and also he thinks Hahn is a bad person for Yue, which he is.Â
Yue dying devastated him and he never falls out of love with Yue. her last words â[she] will always be with himâ are true. swamp visions show Yue as one of the most important people in his life like a season or so after he last saw her. he wouldnât kiss suki in front of the moon, and cries when Yue appears on stage, ignoring Suki. he talks about the moon as if it is directly Princess Yue in that cactus juice scene.

Ushijima x Reader
Summary: Youâre Goshiki Tsutomuâs older doting sister, second year at Shiratorizawa and captain of the girlâs track & field team. At your brotherâs first practice you sneak in to support him and end up meeting the impressive force that is his captain. Warnings: None really. Mentions sex. Spoilers: Weâre encroaching on manga territory. Takes place after Karasuno v Shiratorizawa.
Authorâs Note:Â Sorry for not updating in forever! I lost my original chapter and got discouraged. I started rewatching Ushijima episodes to refresh my grasp on his character.

It was a shock. You never thought Shiratorizawa was capable of losing this year. Ushijima appeared unaffected, but that was just him. It was always mental for him and he had the ability to act with a sort of chivalric grace whenever faced with conflict. God, your boyfriend was really cool. Your brother, however, it broke your heart to see him cry.
After the award ceremony, you raced down to wait by the bus. Ushijima walked out first, his head held high. Noticing you, he simply rested his large hand on your head before getting on the bus. Quiet helloâs and thanks for comingâs were whispered to you. Your little brother could barely make eye contact, the last one to get on the bus. Reaching for his hand, you gave it a squeeze before letting it go and heading for the bus that brought the cheer squad.
The ride felt long. You spent most of it listening to music and playing with the sleeve of Ushijimaâs spare team jacket heâd given you shortly after dating. You smiled and chatted occasionally with your fellow students, but the topics of discussion were focused on how Ushijima and the third years were doing. They expected you to have the answers and quite frankly, you thought it was obvious.
Getting back, you made your way into the gym to see the team working on serves. You sat quietly on the sidelines and watched as everyone gave their all, letting out their frustrations from the day. You never knew you could find the slams of volleyballs to be comforting to where they could put you to sleep. Or maybe you were just exhausted. Either way, you woke up from being carried.
âWakatoshi,â you mumbled, snuggling closer to his chest.
The two of you snuck into your dorm room, stripping down into your underwear and entangling under the sheets. Ushijimaâs body was like a radiator, warm and comforting. You ran your fingers through his hair patiently. If he wanted to talk, then he would. Until then, you whispered little praises to him, pressing kisses to his shoulder between sentences.
âI wonât lose again,â he spoke quietly.
Months passed and things continued to go well between the two of you. They were better than ever honestly. During Christmas you visited each otherâs families at his request. You didnât even have to prompt it! Your parents loved him. They thought he was quite the protector type and approved. His mother ended up accepting you once she realized you were intelligent and genuinely loved her son. Your personality had definitely thrown her for a loop.
Graduation was soon approaching and the two of you decided on a five year plan together. Long nights were spent discussing goals and dreams, wondering if they would be compatible with one another. He intended on going pro right after school; the Schweiden Adlers seemed most likely and they were based in Oita. You still had your third year of high school to finish, but you were applying to Kyushu University for architecture. It was in Fukuoka and closer than your other options to Oita. It was just a couple of hours by train or car. You also had plans to stick with track and field and keep your spot on the national team for as long as you could. You both had your eyes on the 2016 Olympics.
For a year the two of you managed to maintain a healthy long distance relationship.
After graduation, there were farewell and congratulatory parties almost every day, but the most fun for you was going apartment hunting, together. It was like a vacation, enjoying the beaches and hot springs. You spent a week staying at his apartment where the lease was ending soon. He said the two of you needed a new place together, that his current apartment wasnât fitting enough for you. On your third day in Oita, Ushijima decided on the place, a 2 bed and 1.5 bath townhome instead of a one and one apartment. When you told him it was a bit expensive, he said it was perfect because he wanted you to have your own space at home to study for school without being bothered by him. You cried right there and he handled it like a champ. The two of you moved in a week before you started school.
âWakatoshi!â you called to him from the rooftop terrace. He appeared, sticking his head out from the sliding glass door. You wiped your cheek, smudging dirt across your face. âCan you help me move this bag?â
He slipped on his outdoor shoes and walked over, lifting the bag of dirt and moving it to one of the two raised garden beds that he built earlier today. The two of you had plans for a small vegetable garden. âI thought we were going to plant seeds after lunch. Iâm almost done cooking.â
âI know, I just got really excited. I was staring at your beautiful work and couldnât help myself,â you cooed, giving him starry eyes.
Sighing, he set the bag down where you needed it before taking your hand and dragging you back inside. âWeâll do this after lunch. Together.â
âAw, are you jealous I tried to start before you?â He didnât say anything in response, making you grin. âMy handsome farmer, Iâm so sorry.â
After lunch, the two of you filled the garden beds with dirt and carefully planted seeds for carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, peas, basil, parsley, rosemary, thyme, marigolds, lavender, and scarlet plume celosia. Ushijima had done quite a bit of research on complimentary plants. Hours really. Hours spent doing online research and drawing diagrams of how the garden should be set up for its fullest potential.
You were watering one of the garden beds when you caught a glimpse of Ushijima squatting with a spade in his hand. It was so cute how concentrated he was and how much attention he was giving this simple task. Biting your lip, you sprayed him briefly. He blinked, as if not comprehending what happened and looked up, as if blaming the sky. A muffled laugh escaped you. You went back to watering the garden bed as he went inside. Minutes later you heard the glass door slide open and didnât pay much mind to it. Suddenly you felt chilled and were thoroughly soaked. Moving your hair from your eyes, you looked up to see your boyfriend holding a bucket over your head.
âWakatoshi!â
Soon you were off to university, moving into a small dorm room with a single suitcase. Your dorm was littered with photographs of you and Ushijima and it was hard to cope with the fact that you wouldnât see him through at least the rest of summer, maybe not even until the end of September if your schoolâs track team did well.
For a month you and Ushijima would call or FaceTime every night and tell each other about your days. He was quite proud of the garden the both of you planted and would send you progress photos and then describe what he saw in fine detail. Honestly, you didnât realize your boyfriend was capable of being so invested in something other than volleyball. There were a few times you tried spicing up your phone calls, but honestly Ushijima didnât get it. He was terrible at phone sex. It was fine though. Summer break was.... just a few months away.
It was a Saturday night after track practice when you got a phone call from your boyfriend.
âWakatoshi! Youâre calling early. I havenât gotten back to my dorm yet,â you spoke, excited to hear from him.
â(Y/N), Iâm lost.â
Your brows raised in surprise. âLost, how? Do you need me to look up how to fix something?â
âNo, Iâm somewhere on your universityâs campus.â
You felt your heart skip and you immediately ran toward main campus. âOkay well tell me what you see.â
In thirty minutes you were in your dorm taking a shower and Ushijima was reading the newest shonen jump he picked up at the train station on your bedroom floor. You came out with your hair in a towel and one of Ushijimaâs t-shirts you had stolen. He set aside his magazine and pulled you down into his lap, holding you tight.
âIâm so surprised you came. Iâm so happy,â you squealed, burying your face into his neck and running your fingers through his hair.
âI missed you too. I can stay for two days, but then I must go home.â
Pulling back, you let your fingers run over the stubble on his jaw, pouting a bit, âSo what do I owe this short visit?â
His stare was intense and a faint blush kissed his cheeks. âI recognize that a few times youâve tried to... initiate some things on the phone. I admit Iâm not very good at it, so hopefully my presence now can make up for my... lack of experience.â
âWakatoshi,â you breathed out in surprise, gazing at him with so much love. He literally traveled almost three hours because you were horny without him. Pulling the towel from your hair, you knocked him over onto his back as you jumped him.
Visits like these happened sporadically and soon it was fall. Track and field season was over which meant you could make your weekend visits home to Oita. Youâd leave Wednesday nights and head back to school on Sunday mornings. Despite the second bedroom serving as a private study for you, you found yourself curling up to Ushijima almost always - as long as he wasnât busy.
This was life for a couple of years. The two of you had become quite the duo. In fact, throughout your relationship, you had only argued about two things:
You broke your phone once and he wasnât able to contact you and he freaked out from not knowing what was going on.
He forgot your anniversary and cancelled on your date for volleyball and you laid in on him for it.
Things were great until the 2016 Olympic qualifiers came around. You had broken a metatarsal in your right foot at the first qualifying meet of the 2015 season. You were out for the next eight weeks and even then, you werenât going to be in shape to qualify because you had to go through physical therapy and get your athletic abilities up to par. Your coach told you that staying on the national team, going pro, and qualifying for 2020 was still possible for you. It didnât stop the feeling of complete and total devastation that wrecked you and you were jealous.
Ushijima wasnât sure of how to help you; heâd never seen you so vulnerable before, never seen you so sad, but he did his best to support you, even if that meant being a punching bag. He was consistent, despite things he had going on for his own Olympic goals.
After two months it was summer break. You had to go through physical therapy and you moved back home to Oita, transitioning to online classes for the second term of the year. Because Ushijimaâs love language was different from most, you found yourself being forced to do your PT homework exercises, no matter how down and bratty you got.
âWakatoshi, I donât want to do stairs,â you groaned, curling up into a ball on the couch.
âYou must, or you wonât be ready to start training any time soon,â he replied simply.
Your foot was throbbing and you were on your period, and everything just felt like shit. All you wanted was to watch anime and eat the small bag of chips you had hidden under the blanket you were under. Ushijima had been so strict with your diet and honestly all you wanted were trans fats, sugar, and carbs. With ease, he ripped the blanket from you, exposing you in your underwear clutching a bag of Calbee honey butter flavored potato chips.
âYou should get up and walk the stairs now,â he said, prying the bag of chips from your hands, âif you want these back.â
Throwing your legs over the couch, you winced, balling your hands into fists in frustration. You got up, favoring your left foot, which he noticed. He walked up the stairs and sat on the top step, waiting for you to follow. Biting your lip, you moved slowly, trying to ignore the pain. There were 14 steps to the top and you had to go up twice and down twice. You were doing fine until your second trek up the stairs. It was a misstep and you slipped and you were clinging to the stair case, crying. It was embarrassing for you to be like this in front of him. This sweet giant quickly enveloped you in his arms and had you lying on your side of the bed, gently caressing your foot as you sobbed through it.
When you were calm again, Ushijima left for a while before returning, dinner in hand. The two of you sat in bed and had the meal he made in silence. Youâd barely eaten, but you waited until he finished before you curled up to his side.
âIâm so sorry, Wakatoshi.â
âI would be surprised it you took this easily. Youâre a competitive person. Itâs one of the things I find attractive about you,â he replied. He wrapped his arm around your shoulders, his fingers gently running up and down along your own arm.
âReally?â you asked, feeling shy. He hummed in affirmation, glancing down to make eye contact. Smiling, you played with the hem of his shirt that was beginning to ride up. âWhat else do you... find attractive about me?â
âYouâre thoughtful, kind. The way you pursue your passions and youâve encouraged me to pursue my own; you believe in people wholeheartedly.â A thoughtful expression settled on his face as he spoke on effortlessly. He paused and his brows furrowed briefly before settling into a relaxed expression. âYouâre beautiful.â
Placing a kiss to your forehead, you watched as he got up and headed to take his evening shower.
While you couldnât compete, you concentrated on therapy and school and finished your courses early for your degree. You picked up a simple class to stay enrolled until your four years at school were up*, this way you could go back to competing your last year of university. The summer of 2016, Ushijima took you with him to Brazil. Japan didnât win, but the competition was incredible. You got to meet with track and field athletes and it reignited your passion for competition.
Youâd graduate come spring and then your focus was on 2020 Tokyo.
-
*In Japan, early graduation doesnât exist. It was explained to me that if you attend a 4 year university, you have to be a student for 4 years before graduating, even if you complete your degree early.

Meva lead us to a narrow canyon, where walls stood adorned with strange carvings I could not decipher. Every angle was perfect and the walls were smooth as glass. I realized that the canyon had not been formed naturally. The canyon walls had been carved by the Dronk.
We came to a circle of polished white stones inlaid into the floor. Meva said that in order for us to see the Dronk, the stones must be stepped on in a precise pattern. Once this was done, the Dronk would come. Her grandfather had studied these stones and eventually discovered the pattern. The pattern had been taught to her when she was a child, as a sort of dance. She thought she was learning a kata or a family ritual. Not until much later did she realize it was the key to unlocking the Dronk's stones.
She completed the dance, and the final stone she stepped on sank into the ground two inches. I could hear the clinking of underground mechanisms as stone slid against stone. Spires of minerals covered in crystals sprouted from the ground in neat rows. Black, tangled orchards of petrified trees rose against the canyon walls. All was silent. We stood waiting for three hours. At one point, Meva pointed behind me, and I spun around to see three stone beings. They had a simple form, like a children's drawing. Their heads were huge rectangles with coarse holes cut clear through the head, allowing the light of the sky to shine through. Their bodies were rectangular stone. Their legs and arms were slabs.
Two Dronk pulled a third from a white stone monolith. They pulled out the body, setting it aside. Then they pulled out an arm and hung it on the body. This process continued until the third Dronk was completed.
"Do you see that, Tzurk? They're giving birth!" Meva whispered to me.
The newly formed Dronk was the same size as the other two, but he walked awkwardly, staggering as they guided his first steps. One of the Dronks used his finger to carve a symbol onto the new Dronk's forehead.
"You will hunt for us." He said. "Your name shall be Hunt."
When this was done, the Dronk turned to us. He welcomed Meva. He said he knew her, from long ago, when she had come to the valley with her grandfather. Meva bowed. The Dronk said he'd seen her as a baby, and he never forgot a bloodline. His name was Grel, he was the one who used the creation table and gave names.
Meva asked him if he could build a device for us to contain the heart of the mountain, and motioned for me to show him. Grel looked long and hard at the purple fuzz-ball, when I held it up to him.
Then he said, "We have no use for this, because we cannot die, but this has been hunted for by mortals for as long as time has spun. Everyone who found it before you, was either killed or vanished."
"Does this mean I will die also, or was I meant to have it?" I asked.
"Neither or both." Grel replied.
He motioned for us to follow him to the monolith, which he called, the Skeev Table.
Grel stirred the shiny white surface of the monolith like it was liquid. It didnât move at all like solid rock. After a moment, he drew out a device that had an open hatch and two hinged arms on either side. Taking the purple fuzz-ball from me, he placed it in the top compartment and snapped the lid shut. Drel handed the device back to me, "These mechanical arms can pull the soul from one thing and hold it temporarily in the machine or transfer it into another object or body."
Grel put the corner of his stone head on Mevaâs hand as if to kiss it. "Visit us again, Meva. Now go in peace."
Leaving Dronk
We left the Valley of the Dronk, and continued our trek to the cottage Quace had shown us on the map.
It was well off the main path, surrounded by thick woods; A much more inviting place to stay than the safe-house, and with no threat of turning into baby goats. The roof was tiled with bark shingles and the walls were of split logs. The front door was flanked by small windows.
Inside, the cottage was dry and warm. There was a rocking chair, a rug made of angora elephant, a framed bed, and a painting over the fireplace.
After dumping our packs on the bed, we went outside and explored the area around the cabin. Not far off, there was a grove of wild Mink-Mer trees. Their branches hung low from the weight of the fruit on them. I plucked one and we shared it, the sugary juice running down our chins.
To the south, a stream trickled down from nearby mountain peaks, run off from the thawing snows many miles above us.
I've looked back on our time in that cabin, and longed to return to those memories. It was the best time of our life. We were free from worry and concern, and our love continued to deepen. I can only think of one moment when it all went stink-bad.
The Baby Gardens
Meva went outside in the cool of the morning and paced off a large square field, then a second field in the shape of a giant circle. The square field was for boys, and the circular was for girls. By our custom it was mandatory to build both fields, and to decide which field would house the seed only after both were complete. Some couples demanded only males. Some demanded only females. Some demanded the exact same amount of each sex. Some decided to plant all of the offspring in one season. Still others chose not to plant any seed at all.
We had long walks around the two fields, Meva gleaning every weed from the area so that it looked pristine. All rocks and pebbles were moved to the outskirts of the fields, making an accidental sweeping rock path around them. She set up boarder markers of stick then drew a string taught between them. We gathered smaller sticks and placed them along the string to mark the border. She sang a song about the family inside the border, and how one day they would meet the family outside the border. The land was rich for reproduction.
It came time to plant. I exhaled, and a small sack lowered from the bottom of my torso. Where I am from, the sacks have three black marks on them; two of them look like circles for eyes and one mark below looks like a smile. Inside of the sack contains any number of seeds from one to ninety-nine. We are forbidden from checking the count of seeds in the sack, so the day of planting is always a surprise.
The next part of the planting ritual is up to Meva. She pokes her finger into the "right eye" mark of the sack, and the line that looks like a mouth opens up and says, "YAAAARRR!" then the number of seeds we are to plant that day come out of the mouth. In our case, one seed came out and landed in Mevaâs open hand. Next she was to choose which field would receive the seed. Would it be the square field or the circular field? But before she could make her choice, something terrible happened. The seed withered in her hand and blew apart in a puff of smoke.
Shock came over Mevaâs face as she considered the seed obliteration in her hand. She looked up at me to see how I would respond. I was not sure how to act. The first thing that came to mind was what people would call her from now on, "Obliterator." I pushed that word out of my mind because-- OBLITERATOR. No! Not Meva! She would not be known as an obliterator! It is true that other obliterators who did not want to be known by that name often claimed that they never tried to have children in the first place. But that was hard to do for the couples who more publicly built their square and circle fields in thickly populated areas. Sometimes the husband took the blame, claiming that no seed was ever produced from the sack in the first place. He would be known as "Seedless." That is a name so shameful that we would shout that curse to our enemies on the other side of the battlefield, "Seedless! Seedless! Seedless!"
Meva wept in my arms, and said I could leave and find another female. I told her that I would rather be married to even an obliterator than any non-Meva female!
She had the desperate idea to use the soul transfer device to put her into the body of a viable female, but the idea was wrought with difficulties. The first would be to find a female who wanted to be pulled from her body into Mevaâs. Why would a female want to be removed from her own body? Perhaps if she had an incurable disease! If she was going to die anyway, she would want to switch bodies with Meva, then Meva could bring us a baby, and we could figure out something else to do with her incurable disease. Perhaps I could build her a mechanical body in which to house her soul in case of an emergency.
Meva was willing to do this, but I did not like the idea of using the soul transfer machine lightly. It was for emergencies, and it needed much more experimentation before we knew the limits of its power. I was not sure how trustworthy the housing device we got from the rock people would be. What would happen if the device failed? What would happen if the device killed the purple fuzz-ball in the middle of a soul transfer? I assumed the body would be obliterated, and the soul could be cast into the air, a homeless ghost in search of a body! No! Experimenting on Meva would not do! She was already sad enough by not being able to bring us children.
We did not turn the two fields under, but we did not keep nature from claiming the ground for the forest again. Trees grew in those fields, male trees where the square was and female trees where the circle field used to be. Rocks tumbled back over the ground, male rocks where the square field used to be and female rocks where the circle used to be. The weeds came.
Meva and I never brought up what happened in those two fields again.
Artism
Five years passed, and we had thoroughly researched the soul transfer device. I took most of the notes, and Meva formally put everything in her secret journal. We concluded our experiments, having grown weary of research, and put the soul transfer device in storage under the bed.
With the diversion of research over, I noticed Meva spent long hours staring out the window. She was looking at the baby gardens, now barely visible under a thick patch of weeds.
One day, Meva went outside to draw shapes in the soil using sticks. She told me it was a new art theory she was working on called Drawshapism. Then she pushed sticks into the ground and call it Stickism.
Not to be outdone, I piled rocks up in front of our cabin and called it Rockism.
Soon her stick artworks began to fill the yard, leaving little room for my rock expressions. With no place left on our property to properly display my art, I decided to pioneer a new undiscovered genre of fine art. I plucked pinecones from the surrounding trees and re-hung them from the branches. I called it Pineconeism.
Meva thought I was mocking her art. I asked her why she didn't think I was just mocking Rockism. She claimed intuition. She said that Pineconeism was redundant and derivative, which infuriated me.
Out of spite, I tied the pinecones onto the exact place from where I plucked them, inciting more criticism from Meva. She said she couldn't tell if the pinecones were growing naturally from the tree, or if I had plucked and tied them back onto the branch. I feigned offense and yelled, "You do not have an eye for art or you would recognize Pineconism when you saw it!"
She declared a new form of Pineconism, where the artist did not pluck the pinecone from the branch and retie it before declaring it a work of art. I thought this was obviously silly, and said as much. She yelled, "You are just jealous of my superior form of expression, Tzurk! You know that I have discovered an authentic movement known as Pineconism!"
"You are not even making art, Meva!" I yelled. "What you are doing is called NATURE, not art!"
She glared at me, "That is what all stupid people said about great art when it was first discovered! They did not have the mind to understand such things. I am shocked to know that you are one of those people!"
I pointed to the ground, "Fine! I just discovered Groundism! It is when the ground is just the ground. In fact, the whole world is already my work of art because it is all covered with the ground. I will sign my name to the world."
I snapped a stick from the ground, and signed my name to the ground.
Mevaâs face turned red with anger, "You just broke off one of my stickist artworks!"
"Well, there werenât any other sticks I could use to sign my name!" I shouted back, "Someone picked them all and stuck them into the ground!"
That night, Meva moved out of our bed and set up a pile of clothes to sleep on in the corner. I saw the stupidity of our fight and said so. But she would not talk to me, and would not return to our bed.
That night I did not sleep. When we slept together, I rested my hand on her hip. The empty space she left in the bed was haunting. I kept looking over at Meva in the corner, and could not believe I acted so stupid to her. I realized that she was really trying to be an artist. She needed to create. She hadn't started Stickism to spite me. She was expressing herself. I was the fraud. I was the one acting in spite.
That lonely bed was a warning that if I continued to disrespect my treasured wife, I may just end up alone⌠forever.
The next morning, I saw her stirring, so I went and lay down beside her. I apologized to her and admitted my spite.
She held up her hand to quiet me. "I curse my love of art. I put it before you. I forgive you, but I donât want to pursue Stickism or my fraudulent form of Pineconism anymore."
She took my hand and placed it on her hip. She said, "I have a new form of art. I call it Tzurkism, and I will only ever be a Tzurkist!"
"And I am a Mevaist. I will only be obsessed with Mevaism forever!"
Research
I threw myself into the study of the soul transfer machine. Meva documented everything in a secret journal (Undisclosed location. Trust me, donât even bother trying). When I first turned the machine on, we could feel it drawing power from the surrounding environment. If we used it too often, the surrounding trees would droop from exhaustion and the grass would lose its color. Though we didn't feel anything, it was my suspicion that the soul transfer machine could even be drawing its power from Meva and I.
With the use of some handmade baskets and some string, I was able to trap small spirds on which to experiment. We always had a few in cages along the back wall of our cabin, and took them outside when weather permitted. The first specimen I caught was an adult spird that looked healthy. We called him "Specimen A". I put him in one of the transfer machineâs claws, and had the other claw touching a rock. This was to emulate my first experience in the blank mines when I touched the purple fuzz-ball and went into the mountain.
I pushed the button to power the device, and it began to hum. Then, with a flip of a switch, Specimen A went suddenly limp, and the soul transfer machine cut its own power. Meva pushed her fingers through Specimen Aâs feathers, feeling for a pulse. But there was none to be found.
We inspected the rock. I picked it up and held it up to my face. It was cooler than room temperature, but there were no visible signs that anything was different.
"If you are in there, little spird, hold on tight and we will bring you back to your body!" I said.
The claw of the machine was, once again, attached to the rock. The claw on Specimen A remained and we turned the machine on. With a flip of the switch, the spird sprang back to life. It's head snapped up, and it's feet clenched. We kept Speciman A in a cage just long enough to make sure there were no lasting side effects. Later that spring, we set Specimen A loose, and he built a nest in a tree that grew from what used to be our circular field.
It was not clear exactly what happened in the event of soul transfer. We were not sure if the soul got extracted from the body, and that caused the heart to stop, or if the soul transfer stopped the bodyâs heart, which released the soul to be transferred.

Hey this is a random question but do you think the handprint cas left on dean is still there after all the angelic healing and dying that dean has gone through?
Well, It depends if you accept continuity errors and other accidents during the creation of the show as in-show canon or not.
If you DO, then we have to accept that Cas healed Dean of the handprint scar at some point in season 5, as it wasnât there in season 6.
However, the show creators at the time admitted that the lack of handprint was only a continuity error, and had they not forgot about it, probably would have intended to keep the scar in place. If this had happened, then whether the scar still remains to this day, is a question of assessing Dean and Casâs characters based on two questions:
1. Would Cas have healed the scar without Dean asking?
2. Would Dean have asked Cas to heal it at any point?
Plus a third question of whether there was ever a possibility for Dean to be healed of the scar by another source?
First question 1. Would Cas have healed Dean without asking? Honestly? I donât know that he would have been able to. When Cas pulled Dean out of Hell, he rebuilt his body from scratch and healed it completely, but the scar remained even though Cas rebuilt him completely. Why didnât Cas just heal it right at the beginning? What if he couldnât?
Dean even confirms in Monster Movie that all his old scars were healed by Cas:
âLook at me. I mean, I came back from the furnace without any of my old scars, right? No bullet wounds, knife cuts, none of the off-angled fingers from all the breaksâ
So we know that Cas (and other angels) have the ability to heal human scars, and yet Cas couldnât heal his own handprint? Why not?
Even if he DID have the ability to heal the scar, I honestly donât think Cas would have done so without asking. Perhaps this is just my own personal headcanon but the scar to me is an important symbol of their connection, and I donât think that Cas would have removed it without Deanâs express permission to do so. We can perhaps argue that there was a point in time when Cas saw the scar and asked Dean if he wanted him to heal it, and Dean said okay, but I really donât think Cas would have just removed it on his own.
For questions 2, would Dean have asked Cas to heal it? I donât think that Dean is a vain person at all, and actually, if we are going by character analysis rather than what we see on screen within the limits of the show, I think Dean would be covered in both scars and tattoos and wear them all with pride, and would probably make up ridiculous stories to explain the handprint whenever asked much to his own amusement.
I also think that on a deeper level, given everything Dean and Cas have been through, that handprint is a symbol of their bond, and of the angel that saved Dean from his worst ever experience in Hell. I donât think that Dean would have asked Cas to remove it for this reason alone.
So, Cas didnât heal the handprint, whether he was asked to or not, then could it have been removed at some other point by a different source?
Given the fact that after Dean was resurrected by Cas in season 4, he was then resurrected again by Joshua in season 5, potentially Joshua could have removed the scar. We only see the scar one other time past 4x01, and thats when Dean hooks up with Anna in 4x10, so its possible Joshua healed it. But if we are assuming that Cas at full power at the start of season 4 couldnât heal it when he was able to heal every other scar on Deanâs body, why should any other angel be any different?
After Joshua, everytime Dean travels to a different ârealmâ such as purgatory, or the veil, his body remains in tact, and therefore the handprint wouldnât be healed by any of these things. Though it could have been removed when he became a demon.
After Metatron kills him, the Mark of Cain keeps Dean alive by corrupting his soul and turning him into a demon. He is basically completely indestructable as a demon the same way Cain was. Only the First Blade, wielded by a bearer of the Mark could kill him. Could the Mark have removed an angelic scar from its host? Itâs possible. If angels couldnât heal the handprint, perhaps a corrupting demonic mark had the power to do so? But itâs always been the case that Angel trumps Demon in SPN, and I think that a pure angelic mark still couldnât be removed by an additional demonic one.
The only other time in the shows history where the handprint could have possibly have been healed is by Michael when Dean is possessed at the end of season 13. Could Michael, through his possession of Dean, rid Deanâs own body of any imperfections, scars, wounds, or angelic marks?
Well, nothing in Supernatural canon actually confirms that vessels are completely healed of their scars prior to the possession, so we donât know for sure. The best source we have to go on is actually Gadreel who possessed Sam in order to heal him from the trials, but even then, Gadreel didnât heal Sam fully as Cas had to keep healing Sam in sessions after he was freed. This actually implies that angelic possession CANâT heal the vessel of everything pre possession. So, if we assume the handprint was something that Cas couldnât heal right at the start, we can also assume that even Michael couldnât heal it when he possessed Dean. There is nothing in canon to suggest otherwise (if we are ignoring continuity errors of course).
Based on the very original canon, that Cas was unable to heal Dean of the handprint when he initially rebuilt his body, and based on the fact that the whole point of the handprint was that it was the physical place where Castiel âgripped Dean tight and raised him from perditionâ there is actually a very strong argument for the handprint not being purely a scar on Deanâs body, but that it is a mark burned into his soul, which is unable to be removed by any external source, including its own maker.
TL:DR - My conclusion is that regardless of everything Dean has been through since he was raised from perdition by Cas in season 4, the handprint scar would still be there. Because it is not on his body, it is part of his soul. If Cas wasnât able to heal it right at the beginning when he healed everything else, then I donât think any other creature would have been able to at any other point, and I think the reason for this is because the scar is not part of Deanâs body, but a physical manifestation of the handprint on his soul. Based purely on the information canon has given us, I think my logic is sound. But I welcome anyone to point me to anywhere in canon that I may have missed which contradicts this.
Continuity errors be damned. :P

I Try One of Everything at Salt City Market (Part 2)
Remember like 3 weeks ago when I did a write-up of a food hall in my hometown, guaranteed to attract the attention of like, 2 people? Well, itâs time for more of that!Â
Attempt #1
While there wasnât a line outside this time, the market itself seemed just as busy as it was the day after the grand opening. I also tried to make a point to take in more of the decor, but I donât think I really have anything new to add other than the fact that I watched not one but two people struggle to stuff the big paper bags their food came in into the trendy, tiny-opening trash cans. More importantly, I forgot that like, half of the stands are closed on Mondays, meaning I would have to come back another time to finish my quest.Â
ERMAâS ISLAND- Jerk Pork (half portion)- $10
I want to say right off the bat that of all the things Iâve tried from this market, this was hands down the best smelling. And thankfully, the pork pretty much tasted as good as it smelled. It was tender and juicy, and the sauce was complex, with a good amount of heat that didnât overpower the other flavors. The rice and beans that it came with, on the other hand, was a little bland, but thatâs nothing that mixing the sauce into canât fix. Â
Unfortunately, I can never show my face there again, because when the cashier asked me if I wanted the half or whole portion, I said âYeah,â and made her repeat herself like 3 times.
MAMMA HAI- âMarco Poloâ Banh Mi- $10
Yes, thatâs pepperoni on a banh mi.
The roll was nice and crusty, and to be honest, thatâs like 90% of what makes a good sandwich for me. Unfortunately, the pickled veggies and cilantro (and this blog is pro-cilantro, get over yourselves, haters) sort of overpowered the pepperoni and the char siu pork, which is a shame because I wanted that pepperoni to shine. If this was a $5 banh mi, I wouldnât have a problem with that, but at $10 I would have liked a little more meat, or at least for the already existing meat to make its presence felt. The pate and mayo kinda also get lost, but do present a bit of richness in about every other bite (and, for another controversial sandwich opinion, I donât necessarily think that every bite of a sandwich has to have an even distribution of everything, otherwise the flavors sort of just blur together after a while). Overall, itâs a fairly decent sandwich, but left me longing for something more. They also have a curry chicken banh mi, maybe that one has a better balance of flavor.
CAKE BAR- Locus Cake- $6.50
One thing about Cake Bar that isnât made apparent by looking at their stand is that, according to their website, itâs meant to resemble a Vietnamese cafe. In hindsight, this kinda explains the wide variety of specialty teas (specialteas, if you will) they also had available.
The chocolate cake was moist and had little crispy bits running throughout it. At first, I thought it was eggshells, because Iâm an idiot and always assume the worst. After picking out an especially large chunk, I realized it was broken up bits of Biscoff cookies! (Further research has shown me that the parent company that makes Biscoff cookies is called Locus, thus, yâknow, the name of the cake. Probably should have put that together sooner, it literally says âLocusâ on the cookie, one of which was lodged into the top of the cake.) The buttercream was surprisingly light, and the caramel on top had the perfect consistency, gooey enough to stay put but not so gooey that it turned into a stringy mess after running your fork through it. The only negative thing I really have to say about the all-around experience was that the box they used made it kind of difficult to get the slice out of it (as you can see, I ended up just tearing the sides up).
Attempt #2Â
Since the market is relatively close to my work, I figured I would drop by after work one day to bang out the rest of the list.
BAGHDAD RESTAURANT- Beef Shawarma- $6.99
At first, I laughed to myself upon seeing it in one of those gas station sub bags. The laughing faded pretty quickly, though, upon seeing it was, in fact served on a sub roll. I'm not a shawarma expert. maybe that can be an acceptable way to eat it? The beef was well spiced and that perfect sweet spot between tender and still having something to sink your teeth into. Unfortunately, thatâs more or less where my compliments end. What little sauce the menu promised (just called âsauce,â donât ask me what it is) has soaked into the bread and completely disappeared, making the whole thing somewhat dry and lackluster. Also, they didnât cut it, which was fine with the heartier banh miâs baguette but with the softer sub roll didnât have the structural integrity to be picked up whole without a struggle. My biggest gripe with it is mostly on me, though, as the juice from the pickles tainted most of it with pickle stank, which could have been avoided entirely if I had just ordered it without. Â
SOULUTIONS- Mustard and Berbere Fried Chicken ($6) and FIRE MAC ($4)
(Note- the $6 order of chicken comes with 2 of these chicken cutlets, but I carelessly ate one before taking the picture.)
I do want to clear the air here and say that yes, I did accidentally order fried chicken and mac and cheese from both of the soul food places. I was originally going to get the burger, at my friendâs recommendation, but the menu board by the register suspiciously didnât have the burger on it, so I panicked and ordered the fried chicken again. Â
While the breading was stained yellow from mustard, the honey mustard taste was very subtle. I also have to admit to not knowing off the top of my head what berbere (I had to google it, itâs an Ethiopian spice blend) tastes like, so i can't tell you if this tasted like that. But, despite not being especially strong in either of the namesake seasonings, it definitely is a flavorful piece of chicken nonetheless. Flavors work that way sometimes.
The Fire Mac may not have delivered as strongly on cheese as I may have liked, but it definitely did deliver on the fire, drizzled with a tangy buffalo-esque sauce. And Topped with crumbled bits of fried chicken skins? Canât go wrong with that.
JUICE AND FLOWERS- âRoot | 12â Juice- $8
Misleading name, I didnât see any flowers anywhere. Zero stars.Â
The beet and lemon were the most pronounced of the flavors, with the ginger lingering on the palate and, unsurprisingly, the apple and carrot mostly being there to round the whole thing out. The employee that waited on me was very passionate and knowledgeable about the juice, informing me that 2 pounds of produce had gone into this little bottle, and that itâd have a shelf life of 3-5 days. Which is good, because I put it back in the fridge after I got home to chill it back down, and then proceeded to forget about it for 3 days. Itâs also a very thick and hearty juice, so it doesnât feel that weird to only want to drink half a bottle in one sitting and, yâknow, make this $8 bottle of juice last a little longer.Â
Attempt #3
Knowing fully well that I was going to have a long night shift ahead of me, I decided to check out the Coffee Bar side of the market for what would be my third trip over the course of 5 days. I feel like I should also point out that the Coffee Bar, as its name literally breaks down as, serves coffee during the day and a full bar at night. I also noticed during this visit that the Coffee Bar has a patio seating area under construction, cheesy string lights and all, that I am looking forward to.
Fruity Pebbles Latte- $6
Against my best judgement, I got it âfor hereâ for the sake of the pic, even though a.) I had to break my rule of not eating in places because this fucking pandemic isnât over yet and b.) I was nervous about being late for work the whole time (I did, in fact, get there on time). As I waited, I could see their secret recipe fruity pebbles milk sitting on the counter. It was, in fact, fruity pebbles and milk. Â
I didnât really think the Fruity Pebbles would work with the espresso, having had been burned before by places that just dump them onto things with no regard of the flavor profile just for the sake of the burst of color. But, somehow⌠it did work. Maybe itâs because cereal milk is never quite as strong as some might hope, but the subtle fruitiness of the milk played well with the chocolatey notes in the espresso. The espresso itself probably also had the best crema on it that Iâve ever seen on a latte (and yes, I had to google the pretentious espresso-snob term for the foam that floats to the top).
Also shoutout to the pour over, which on their menu board is priced at "4-ish"
Iâm so glad Iâm living with my parents again at the moment. Otherwise, this whole thing wouldâve been like, a monthâs worth of my food budget.

Third Wheel, Part 1
Authorâs note: Co-written with @drakesroyalromance. Written during the end of season 11, not canon compliant from season 12. Weâre posting this now for Supernatural appreciation week, day 5 - Favourite ship: Dean x Castiel (Destiel).
Word count: 1466 words.
Warnings: Deals with internalized homophobia and related themes.
Tension had been buzzing in the bunker, everyone could feel it, and Castiel knew it was about to come to a head. He and Dean had been sneaking around with each other for months and he thought Sam and Mary knew it, but wasnât sure because no one said anything. Castiel had never expected this and he knew Dean certainly hadnât.
It started with just a simple touch. Dean was walking by and gently placed his hand on Castielâs arm as he walked by. It was a small gesture but intimate. It sent chills down Castielâs spine, a sensation heâd only felt one other time - when he was human. He almost thought he imagined it until he saw Dean look down at his hand and up at Castiel, alarmed, hurrying down the hall to his room.
He tried to talk to Dean about it but found that Dean was doing his best to avoid him. He thought about trying to google it but he didnât have the right words. Instead, he decided to go to Sam.
âHey Cass.â
Castiel took a seat beside Sam and dove right in. âHow do you know if youâre attracted to someone?â
Sam raised an eyebrow and pulled his eyes away from his computer to look at Castiel. âItâs different for everyone, Cass. Thereâs lust and then thereâs love.â
Castiel nodded, this made sense. When he was human and that woman attacked him, they had intercourse together first. That was lust.
âWhere is this coming from anyways?â
âI - someone who is objectively attractive touched my arm and it sent a chill down my spine. Does that mean Iâm attracted to them?â
Sam repressed a laugh. âDid you feel anything else? Have you felt anything else since?â
Castiel frowned. âI felt a strange sensation in my stomach.â
âLike butterflies?â
He nodded.
âThen yeah, Iâd say youâre attracted to them, Cass. Who is it?â
âThank you, Sam.â He got up and marched towards Deanâs door, ignoring Samâs question.
âWhat?â Dean barked, tired of the incessant knocking on his door. He paled when he realized who it was.
âWe need to talk, Dean.â
âAbout what, Cass? Canât a guy have a little space?â
I find you attractive.â He paused, âsexually.â Dean was as pale as a ghost, but Castiel continued. âI think you do too..find me sexually attractive.â
Dean looked like he was going to be sick. The truth was heâd felt a spark when he touched Cass that day and it scared the hell out of him. It wasnât that he had anything against gay people, itâs just that he wasnât gay. He liked women, loved them actually. He couldnât be attracted to men, let alone his best friend.
âCass, I -â Dean didnât know what to say. Castiel, whoâd only had one other sexual experience in his life, decided to grab Deanâs face and kiss him. Thatâs what people did in the movies when they wanted to express their love for someone else who was stubborn. Dean was unresponsive at first, but found himself leaning into the kiss, pulling Castiel closer for more.
From that moment on, Dean had gone through a phase of denial to shameful acceptance, sneaking around with Castiel so Mary and Sam wouldnât find out.
Castiel was well aware the Winchestersâ secrets always had a way of coming out, he was sure this one would too but he did his best to keep the secret, for Deanâs sake.
Castiel was new to the idea of a relationship, same sex or not. Dean wasnât new to the idea, heâd had plenty of one night stands and one or two serious girlfriends over the years. He understood relationships but wasnât forthcoming when Castiel had questions. Instead, Castiel found himself turning to Sam over and over again when the internet couldnât provide answers.
âSam.â
Sam glanced up from his computer at Castiel, mumbled a greeting and went back to what he was doing.
âHow do you know when you are adequate at pleasing someone..sexually?â
Sam choked on his beer and looked up at Castiel, pressing his mouth into a thin line. âCass, where are all these questions coming from lately? Are you seeing someone?â
Before Castiel could answer, Dean walked in wearing just his robe, nursing a cup of coffee, his hair still messy from the night before. Just the sight made Castiel weak in the knees. He was grateful he was sitting.
âMorning.â Dean was perkier than usual. Castiel had noticed that whenever they spent the night together, he seemed in a good mood the next day. Clearly Sam had picked up on it too.
âHey Cass, why donât you ask Dean? Clearly he was with someone last night.â Sam teased.
Dean looked up from his coffee abruptly and scoffed. âI was alone last night.â
âYeah, right. Whenever you get laid you have this look on your face, you stink like $3 bar bathroom perfume and youâre bragging about it.â
Dean smirked and made a show of sniffing. âCanât a guy just be in a good mood?â
Castiel shifted nervously and caught Samâs curious gaze focused on him, his own hair still showing signs from the night before. He was sure Sam had put the pieces together but he kept quiet for Deanâs sake, for which Castiel was grateful.
The longer into the secret romance they got though, the more Castiel wanted to tell people. He was proud to be with Dean but he felt like Dean was ashamed to be with him. He hadnât said anything yet, he didnât know how, but heâd had enough. The conversation needed to happen.
Sam and Dean strut into the bunker after a hunt. Castiel was sitting at the table angrily when they noticed him.
âHey Cass.â Sam dropped a duffle bag onto the table and Dean was on his heels.
âHow ya doing Cass?â Dean asked but continued to walk by the angel towards the bathroom.
âWe need to talk, Dean.â
âSeriously, Cass? We just got back, can I shower first or is the world ending? Again.â He sighed exasperated.
âFine. Iâll come with.â
Dean looked between Sam and Castiel, panicked.
âDude, weâve talked about this. Personal space.â He tried to laugh it off but Castiel wasnât going to let it go.
âThen letâs talk now.â
Sam walked out of the room so Dean sighed and slumped into a chair.
âFine, Cass. What is it?â
âWhat are we?â
âWhat?â
âI mean I know that Iâm an angel and youâre a human but what are we?â
âI donât know, Cass. Why does it matter?â
âI want to be âFacebook official,â as the internet calls it.â
Dean dragged a hand down his face. âDo you even know what that means?â
âI want to be your âofficialâ boyfriend Dean!â
âCass,â Dean sighed, âitâs not that I donât want that, but you know I donât have a good track record when it comes to relationships. I donât even know what itâs like to have a boyfriend.â
âI donât either. We can figure it out together. Thatâs something Sam said couples do.â
Dean groaned. âYou asked Sam for relationship advice?â
âI didnât tell him it was about you.â
âYou didnât have to.â Sam said as he walked back into the room.
Dean shot up in panic. âWhat? Thereâs no us, I donât know what heâs talking about, Sam.â
âDean, itâs fine. Iâve known for months. Neither of you are exactly stealthy. I was hoping youâd figure this out on your own and tell me, but I forgot how thick headed you can be so listen: I donât care whether youâre gay or bi or whatever. Cass makes you happy, so be with him. You deserve to be happy. Both of you.â Sam adds, smiling gently at Dean, then at Castiel.
Dean felt a sense of guilt and relief wash over him. He knew Sam wouldnât care but the idea of his brother knowing had still made him nervous. Now it was out and Dean felt guilty for hiding Cass.
âAlright, Cass. Letâs make it official.â
Castiel smiled and Dean sighed in relief. A weight seemed to be lifted off his chest, the first of many things they needed to figure out as a couple.
âThank you, Dean.â
âNow that itâs out in the open, can you stop talking to me about your sex life with my brother?â Sam cracked a small smile.
âNo. Iâm afraid I will still need your advice from time to time.â
Sam grimaced and Dean groaned, dragging a hand down his face. Of all the people he could date, he had to have feelings for the one whose best friend was his brother.
âNow Iâm going to shower, and I was serious about being alone.â He pointed his finger accusingly at Cass.
..to be continued
