✦ Let's Celebrate Raijinshuu Day!

It's almost that time of year again for the second annual RAIJINSHUU DAY! A day to celebrate Freed, Evergreen, and Bickslow as the amazing characters they are— as well as an unbreakable team!!

All too often, they are overlooked as fodder or nothing more than Laxus’ personal cheer squad, but they are so much more than that! Each of them are unique, strong, and loyal members of Fairy Tail, and their admiration for Laxus shouldn’t take away from the fact that they are also his closest friends.

✦ Why October 8th?

October 8th, 2008 is when Chapter 106 ('Harvest Festival') was first published in Weekly Shonen Magazine. Not only is this the chapter that officially introduce the Raijinshuu, but it also fits with the canon timeline as they were revealed a week before the Harvest Festival was set to begin. (Oct. 15th)

Tenrou Island is one of my favorite arcs! I love this arc so much. I think this is possibly a controversial take. I don’t know. My favorite thing about shows is learning more about systems in the world. I think it’s just so interesting to see how wizards become s-class. This is going to be long. I am so sorry I love this arc so much. It’s a lot of Cana… I ADORE CANA. Plus a lot of Levy and Gajeel! I just think this arc features so many fan favorite characters so well. This is also before The Thunder Legon was nerfed so they have some cool moments. Just I love this arc so much!

1. I do think it’s crazy that they really just throw us into the arc with no filler episodes/arc between. I think this is one of the only arcs that doesn’t have filler episodes before or a filler arc.

2. Fairy Tail having a sacred place implies that other guilds do as well.

3. Something I find weird about S-Class wizards is why does the title follow you from one guild to another. Juvia and Gajeel were S-Class in Phantom Lord, but not Fairy Tail.

4. Silly thing time! Hiro Mashima trying to put all the main characters and main side characters on the island.

5. Lisanna and Juvia. I wish we kept seeing them as friends.

6. Evergreen and Elfman are one of my favorite ships and should be a main ship. It should be the big 5 instead of big 4. They were more together by the end than any of the other ships! I LOVE THEM!

7. Oh Mest… I miss your silly personality. Also how did he go from ok looking, to hot, to Nastu wannabe. I will be mourning when we see hot Mest for the last time.

8. Why did Makarov keep picking Cana? It seems a little cruel.

9. First Mavis mentioned. Mavis is one of my favorite characters of all time. I love her so much. Fairy Tail Zero is so good and made me love her more.

10. While pacing was my biggest issue for the last two arcs I feel like this is when the show found its pace. Without this arc the grand magic games would have not been as good as it was. I said what I said!

11. If I walked into the route and saw it was Mira I would have just walked away. Mirajane scares me the most out of all characters in the show.

12. I’m going to say it! I ship Lily and Carla! I said what I said!

13. I never got why Hades was so obsessed with Zeref. Because Zeref literally taught him how to use magic. I also wish we got more info on why he turned evil. It’s hard for to believe e he would attack Fairy Tail because he was a founder and was like best friends with Mavis. Him being Precht makes no sense because we never get a full explanation on how he turned evil other than he basically accidentally went down the alt right pipeline

14. I will never get over the Iron with a heart in the O. When I saw it for the first time I screamed and I still scream and fangirl over it!

15. Makarov talking Gajeel into joining Fairy Tail will forever be one of my favorite Gajeel scenes.

16. This arc is really when we start seeing Wendy come into her character and she becomes less of just the little kid to a true character.

17. It’s heavily implied you can’t say no to being Fairy Tail’s guild master. We see Makarov be like lol no and Precht being like lol too bad. Then we see Guildarts being like lol no and Makarov being like lol too bad! Then we see Guildarts being like lol as master you are now master again! Like can they really not say no?

18. I wish we could see Makarov in his prime. I know there has been discussion about how the series is going to continue. I don’t want next generation Fairy Tail I want to see old generation Fairy Tail. I want to see Makarov and his old team beating people up. I want to see Precht as guild master. Or even early days of Makarov being guild master! I would even be ok if it was like Fairy Tail Zero where it was a one arc story.

19. I do have a theory that Precht made Fairy Law. I don’t think it’s stated ever that Mavis made all the grand fairy spells but I maybe wrong. So that’s how he was able to make Grimoire Law.

20. Another theory I have is that Precht took care of Makarov after Yuri’s death.

21. Now this is an out there theory. I know it. I believe that Yuri called Laxus back to the island. HEAR ME OUT! We know that some things just happen in Fairy Tail especially with the living and the dead. Yuri promised to always protect Mavis also his son was in danger. His legacy (Fairy Tail) was in danger. I also think that it could have been Mavis, but I think it’s more poetic coming from Yuri.

22. Makarov saying it’s up to his successor and us being shown Laxus… I am going to call it right now. The end of 100 year quest we will be seeing Laxus becoming master. This would be a perfect way to end his character. This is not the post to get into it, but ya that’s my prediction.

23. God Slayers… oh the magic that was sort of forgotten about. How sad.

24. I will die on this hill. Laxus should have been the Lightning God Slayer. This would had been able to connect him, Ivan and Hades together in a perfect way.

25. This arc also has some of my favorite speeches.

26. One thing about me is I am absolutely sat every time Mirajane transforms.

27. Elfgreen is such an underrated ship.

28. I love Evergreen so much.

29. Capricorn is cool! I really like him even if he isn’t used enough. I love him! Probably second favorite spirit. First is Aquarius because I am an Aquarius and she is just awesome.

30. Favorite Juvia moment is when Meredy said she was wanting to kill Gray.

31. Also wow the show that has shown over and over again to become more powerful is to channel your emotions is showing how emotions makes people more powerful. I really don’t get why people give Fairy Tail so much hate using the power of friendship. It’s almost like we are shown over and over again that is literally how it works. More emotion = more power. It also makes me more mad now knowing the show was created because Hiro Mashima was lonely.

32. One of my favorite things to come out of this arc is Juvia and Meredy’s friendship.

33. Honestly Juvia vs Meredy is my favorite Juvia fight.

34. Cana my love. We both have daddy issues. She just like me for real!

35. Me realizing I’ve misspelled Gildarts name this whole time… oops

36. Seeing Cana’s mom’s will and seeing Cana’s cards being around it. I think her mom also used card magic.

37. Can we talk about how Cana was defeated by Laxus in her first S-Class trial. We don’t talk about this enough!

38. I truely believe that any minor inconvenience Cana threatens to use Fairy Glitter.

39. Fairy Tail having grand spells implies that other guild have grand spells

40. Rip thunder legion…. They aren’t dead they just get hella nerfed after this arc. Well more than they already were after the battle of fairy tail.

41. One thing about Gray is going to try to cast ice shell.

42. I love Ultear so much. She is one of my favorite villains.

43. Lily being scared of thunder and lightning. Adorable. I love him.

44. I do think Hades being a founder was added later on because when he revealed he was the second guild master he didn’t mention being a founder and I think that’s something that would have been mentioned.

45. LAXUS IS BACK BABY! ONE THING ABOUT LAXUS HE KNOWS HOW TO MAKE AN ENTRANCE!

46. We are so spoiled in this arc. We got so much of side characters showing their skills.

47. So Nastu just got the flame lighting power. Honestly don’t understand how it worked! But I don’t care because it’s cool! Wanna know what’s not cool? The fact that Wendy is the only 1st generation dragon slayer to not get an extra dragon slayer element. I hope by the end of 100 year quest she gets something. I want cobra to give her poison. Because that would be badass.

48. The exceed side mission is so adorable and goofy. I LOVE IT.

49. To think of Hades just kept his Fairy Tail emblem he would have been able to win the final fight because the tree was restore

50. People say it’s a plot hole that Ultear was able to restore the tree because she said she can’t use her magic on living things, but I think it was just bad phrasing and really it’s like humans and animals she can’t us her magic on.

51. The Laxus ship that makes the most sense to me is that him and the thunder legion are just a poly relationship. Yes Elfman is apart of this.

52. Another reason why I don’t think Hades was always supposed to be a founder of Fairy Tail is because how did he not recognize Zeref as the man who taught him magic?

53. I love Gildarts and Cana so much! I know if Cana told him from the start he would have stopped going on his long jobs to take care of her. He is such a girl dad.

54. Everyone begging Makarov to let them stay and fight is another moment that makes me cry every time. Honestly the whole episode does.

55. Most iconic scene in Fairy Tail is them holding hands and no one can change my mind.

56. Mavis protecting her guild. Her babies! I love her. The foreshadowing of fairy sphere being more powerful than Acnologia.

Tenrou Island is one of the best arcs. It is also a soft reboot of the show. I can’t wait for the grand magic games. I don’t know if I’ll watch the clock arc. I haven’t watched it in years. It is always a skip for me because I want to get to the grand magic games. I know I missed a lot during this arc and forgot to write things down. I watch the show while working on my school work. I love talking about Fairy Tail so don’t be shy send me things! Thank you for reading me fan girling over my favorite piece of media! Mini rant because this needs to be said

What's weird is that Gruvia antis will claim that the ship itself is entirely one-sided, but the second Gray declares that he does, in fact, have feelings for Juvia (even explicitly with his words when he was talking to Juvina), suddenly, he is out of character.

You can't argue that Gruvia is one-sided and toxic but then ignore all the signs Hiro Mashima does to show people that the ship itself is mutual from both Gray and Juvia and then go as far as to say that Hiro Mashima has "ruined" Gray as a character.

Hey random question but you as frustrated as I am that Lamia has not had a single appearance in 100 year quest? Even Kagura had a single panel with speech but the Lamia Crew (other than an image with Toby on the toilet) has none!

Let me preface what I’m about to say because this fandom can be a little bit up in arms about this; I have no ill will in saying this towards anyone, this is simply my opinion. I’m fine with discussions on this topic, but I will not tolerate unnecessary hate if it comes.

Moving on…confession time. I haven’t read the 100 YQ. I’ve been avoiding it because Gruvia makes me really uncomfortable for reasons I’m not going to get into in this post, and to my understanding it’s filled with it now that it’s canon. Yes, when a ship is canon it’ll get page time, but I can’t stomach this ship at all. Again, it makes me viscerally uncomfortable.

On the topic of Lamia Scale, I’m always down for more content with them. I love the entire crew so so much. But knowing Hiro Mashima, the appearance would be centered around Lyon and Juvia. While Luvia doesn’t make me uncomfortable like Gruvia does, I don’t like it—I personally feel like the entire thing completely destroyed everything established about Lyon’s character, and I might make a full analysis about it one day, but this fandom scares me and I’m not in the mood to get into internet fights over ships. I have a job and stories to write and summer classes to focus on.

In an ideal world I’d love more content with them. There’s so much to explore with the Lamia Scale crew as a team and individual characters, Gray and Lyon’s relationship has so much nuance and I love to analyze the scenes they have together.

But personally, with the direction the series has taken in regard to these characters (Sherry please come home we miss you. Yuka and Toby deserve so so much more. Like just a smidge of backstory I’m begging you. Jura as a mentor figure PLEASE. Lyon’s growth as a character is so compelling and yet you focus on this stupid jealousy plot that completely undermines his past and current goals—), I don’t think I’d actually like the scenes written.

This is all my personal opinion! Again, I’m not trying to shame anyone who likes/read 100 YQ. I want to read it, I do, but again…Gruvia…

Respectfully, if any Gruvia shippers see this and feel the need to argue with me, I am entitled to my opinion even if you disagree with it. Nothing you say will make me support this ship for a plethora of reasons that would make this post way, way too long. Lets save both of our energy. The Gruvia tag is waiting for you to consume all the content to your hearts content.

I've been kinda frustrated too, but at this point I'm just sad, so I get the anger.

I get that they aren't as popular as the other three, since they're both supporting characters, but it made me sad when all the other ships got streams AND a picture for their days, but when asked about a stream for Gajevy day Mashima said that they're not main characters. And I get that, what I don't agree with is him saying a stream for their day wouldn't attract fans, when whenever he posts a gajevy pic, it gets about as many likes as other ships.

Also I don't get how he drew next gen kids for all the other ships but not for one that's about to actually have a kid 😆

About Edo Gajevy, I didn't expect anything to be honest. Edo Gajeel is an anime only character, so he probably never even met Edo Levy. Sigh.

Well, folks,

I have made...*so* many gif sets to worship our beloved NaLu. I don’t even know how many. But, as of today, we have reached the end of the queue (I imagine some of you guessed as much; the string of finale gifs was intentional 😛).

I started this blog on February 21st, 2022. I’m not actually sure what motivated me to do it, but I figured it would be a dumb little thing I’d work on for a couple months then move on. I figured, how long can I *really* keep up daily gif posts for a single ship?

Yet here I am, nearly a year later. I’ve made nearly 500 posts (not all gif sets, but almost!!) I have nearly 600 followers.

This silly little blog has been such a lovely source of enjoyment for me this past year. It’s so awesome to connect with people from across the world, sharing our love for a series and its characters. I’ve engaged with a fandom in a way I never have before, and I’m both grateful for it and sorry I never did this when I was younger. It’s worth noting that this journey has also led me to discover a love of reading and writing fanfiction--not to be dramatic, but that’s been life-changing. Like, how did I reach my 30s without getting into fanfiction??!

Am I walking away from this blog? Of course not! There will be gif reruns, some of which will feature community tags and comments. There will be fanfiction. There will be art. And, eventually, there will be 100yq gifs (if it ever drops!!! reeeee). This wasn’t meant to be a farewell post, but rather a sappy thank you to the community.

Oh, I will also be accepting gif requests moving forward! Surely I’ve missed moments here and there. Surely there’s edits people want. More on that later, in a separate pinned post.

Thank you, Hiro Mashima, for creating this world and these characters that are so easy to love. Thank you, animators, for bringing the story to life.

A Inuyasha Space AU for @klayr-de-gall event AU-gust 2024 day 10 in space featuring my Inukag children and guest star characters from Hiro Mashima series Fairy Tail and Edens Zero.

The Yasha family of space travelers arrived at a space station to refuel their ship.

Inuyasha, the head of the family, enter their ship on the docking logs.

Kagome said to her teenage children Akio, Moroha, and Izayo, "Alright, you kids need to get back by 9, and don't buy too much or even leave with people that you don't know." and the three teenagers said, "Okay." and Kagome look at her older daughter Moroha and said to her, "That means you, Moroha, most of all." and she chuckle since her mother knew her too well.

The three teenagers explore the space station, which has different species.

Izayo see a pair of teenager girls, one of them have pink hair while the other have blond hair, playing a game and the white hair girl walk up to them and ask, "What are you girls playing?" The pink hair girl turn to Izayo and said, "Wow, you have white hair." and the blond hair girl said to her pink hair friend, "Nasha, that was a little rude of you." and she then said to Izayo, "Hello, my name is Pico. This is my best friend Nasha Dragneel." Izayo said to them, "Hi, my name is Izayo Yasha."

MAN I feel you over the Mira and Laxus thing. Like I dont believe that solidifies the ship because Mashima has also drawn Natsu and Lisanna together and Gray and Erza etc etc and when have Mira and Laxus even interacted or talked the last time? Hiro has made it pretty clear they're not gonna end up together but now this art work comes up in 2023 and shippers are gonna shoooooove it down pur throats even though Mashima and Atsuo have both still refused to have these two interact with one another

I just want a picture of my favorite character without it being ship bait is that too much to ask? 😭 He hasn't even SKETCHED Laxus in over a year, whereas he drew her in full-color in February...

That's just how annoying he is about it though, everything has to be ship bait, he can't draw any character without adding in another one that gets to be used for ship bait and it's so tiresome! No matter how nonsensical it is, because it riles up the shippers so they can be validated, until the next time he draws ANOTHER ship bait image and invalidates them. Wash, rinse, repeat.

My statements stands on Holy. Crazy to think that she’s popular everywhere to this degree. I don’t have a problem with it, though.

Noah saying that Rebecca’s bikini is provocative as if we don’t see Sister in BDSM gear on a constant basis. How do I explain Hiro Mashima to my family?

Someone said it was crazy that Shiki’s more forgiving to the villains than Noah. The thing is that Noah’s caused more of a direct threat to his friends than Drakken and Shura did. Crazy to think that.

Rachel as the Yukino Cosmos Director? Not shocking. Next!

You know what would be crazy? If Couchpo and Lavilia were the villains. I’m getting disappointed by these quick reunions and off-screen memory retrievals, might as well happen.

I’m not shocked that Elsie and Justice- I mean James, are rulers of Lendard and supposedly married. It’s shocking that Elsie’s the Kaede Cosmos director.

Seriously, I’m not going to get used to calling him James.

I’m glad that we’re all on the same page about beating the EZ One VOID. It’s just a crazy that we’re getting closer and farther away from getting to Mother.

It’s crazy to think that Elsie wants her mom to die. At the same time, I’ve read Fairy Tail and I’ve probably spoken too soon about her not being like Erza. (Almost like I need to make a post on that.)

Good to see Andrew’s here. Starting to think that everything up to this universe was a mistake. This is how Mashima should be expected to write. I’m not even sure this is bad writing.

Thank goodness that the EZ Crew ships for Rebecca are meaningfully popular. Imagine if enough fans thought Rebecca should be shipped with Noah. The sad thing is that this isn’t unlikely.

Gray’s love for Juvia developed gradually throughout the entire Fairy Tail series

Aka, it wasn’t out of no where.

*Note: I plan to update this post gradually as new moments are released, including the images. So please keep checking back here. :) Last update: September 13th 2022.

Most of the time, those who dislike Gruvia are quick to say Gray was “constantly rejecting” and “constantly annoyed” by Juvia, and now “all of a sudden” he loves her, so it’s OOC. But that’s not true. Gray was not constantly annoyed by Juvia, nor did he constantly reject her. More over, he cannot be “forced” to love her. Something is not forced when it’s been gradually developing for a long time. Aside from that, Gray isn’t so weak willed and will say no to things he doesn’t like. He chooses to be with Juvia himself. Juvia is Gray’s main partner; someone who stands proudly by his side, and he wants her there. She is the only girl that he has romantic development with.

How many times will Gray be “OOC” until some certain individuals see that’s not the case, and it’s actually character development? Did some people expect Gray to never grow up? Even their guild mates have noticed the change, and have verbally commented on it. It’s sad if you want him to remain the same forever. Furthermore... Gray holding Juvia’s hand multiple times, hanging out with her casually of his own accord, comforting her, being affectionate with her, dying for her on multiple occasions, wearing the scarf she made for him, crying into her chest, hugging her, thanking her, living with her, promising her an answer, crying over her “dead” body, holding her in his arms, saying she (and her body) is his, wanting to protect her, declaring he will make her his and that she’s his power to live, having concrete romantic feelings for her, wanting a happy life with her and Greige… all of this is OOC? According to those who dislike the ship, Gray has been OOC since the GMG/Tartaros arc! From then on, every romantic gesture he’s made towards her is “OOC”, which is hilarious in itself because that’s the same thing as claiming you know Gray more than Mashima, which is false. How can the majority of his character be OOC?! Hint: It’s not. This is the real GRAY. The Gray that continues to evolve. In chapter 499, while he held her in his arms, desperately begging her to wake up, Gray said he would be/is serious about Juvia now. It certainly shows in the sequel. He is keeping his word.

All art by the author, Hiro Mashima. Gray and Juvia spend time together of their own accord. Furthermore, these people are focusing way too much on the comedic moments, that are meant to be laughed at, and ignoring the ones that really matter. They also fail to remember that Gray falls under the tsundere character trope. He is shy when it comes to romance, like most Japanese people are. Humor is subjective, but what falls under the umbrella of humor is not. You don’t have to think it’s funny, as long as you know it’s a joke. No, Gruvia is not toxic. Mashima likes humor, and that absolutely includes Juvia’s silly antics and Gray’s reactions to them. These things are exaggerated on purpose for dramatic effect. Japanese love this type of humor use in their mangas. This is also a fantasy manga, meaning it does not have to meet real life standards. Most of the characters have quirks that would not be acceptable in real life.

Gruvia is one of, if not the most romantically developed couple in Fairy Tail. All on panel. Gray being more open about his love for Juvia in the sequel, 100 Years Quest, makes complete sense. If the manga itself for some odd reason hasn’t shown you why, this post surely will. After all, I am using the manga to prove my point.

Before I begin showcasing Gray’s development, I’d like to recommend everyone read this post: Juvia isn’t a stalker. The message of Gruvia is not “stalk someone so much until they love you back”. Rather, it’s more along the lines of “love can turn someone’s life around”. Mashima has only ever portrayed Juvia’s love for Gray as a positive thing for both characters. Real cases for stalking often involve the stalker having control over their victim, sometimes employing fear in a desperate attempt to maintain control, which Juvia has NEVER done. Admiring someone from afar is not the same as stalking them, especially when you don’t have the courage to talk to them. A real stalker would not throw their life away for their victim either. By contrast, they would TAKE their victim’s life away. Furthermore, someone comparing Juvia to a stalker, and claiming they “understand” because they have been stalked before (aka self inserting in a fantasy manga), is an insult to those who are real stalking victims. Don’t do it.

As you read through, notice how the scenes I chose (and it was hard, Gruvia has way too many panels) are mainly, if not all, from Gray’s side. The scenes displayed here are almost entirely serious ones, not comedic. Nor are they just panels of the two standing next to each other (in which there are also a lot of in the series, might I add, but I am focusing on moments that are actually meaningful). And looking at the amount of panels, it’s further proof that Gruvia isn’t all humor.

Now, let’s take a look at how Gray’s love for Juvia progressed throughout the series, step by step in the most simple way possible. I say simple, but the truth of the matter is this post is pretty long... ^^’

How Gray Fullbuster fell in love with Juvia Lockser.

I. Enemies

Phantom Lord.

Self explanatory—Gray and Juvia were enemies when they first met. Juvia was shunned her entire life, and was once a character who had forsaken love until she met Gray, who took away her rain and showed her the sunny sky. This is where their love story began.

II. Allies

Tower of Heaven.

When Juvia appears before Gray for the first time since their fight, he already knew who she was, her name, and that Phantom Lord had been disbanded. He personally doesn’t mind Juvia joining Fairy Tail, though he wonders what the master will say. The two now become allies, protecting/defending each other from Simon and when the blackout happens. They work together throughout the entire arc. Erza asks about the “element 4″ girl at the end, and Gray responds, “Oh, Juvia. She went home.” as well as mentioning she wants to join Fairy Tail.

III. Guild mates

Fighting Festival, Edolas.

Gray is happy about Juvia joining Fairy Tail, and the two are now officially guild mates. Makarov even thought it was good for them to go on a mission alone together. Plenty of small interactions between them occur throughout these arcs, but the notable ones are of the two making an ice water castle together, and Gray teaching Juvia how to eat caramade franks. Alzack and Bisca, a canon couple, note that Gray and Juvia are being lovey dovey. At that time, Alzack and Bisca actually wished they could be more forward, like the two they were watching. 

IV. Friends

Tenrou Island, Grand Magic Games/Dragon Invasion, Tartaros.

Gray and Juvia undeniably became close throughout these arcs. Gray thought about Juvia multiple times during the S-class exam, especially after she didn’t make it back to camp. He wanted to have a battle with her, therefore he was disappointed she lost to Erza. He was worried about her after sending her off to chase Zeref, and protected her during Acnologia’s attack. And of course, Meredy’s sensory link would not have worked if they weren’t close; she even comments to Ultear that Juvia is close to Gray. Like clockwork, Gray swoops in and saves Juvia from Ultear’s deadly attack. This is likely the moment that showcased Gray could eventually fall for Juvia. The two are no doubt, good friends. The Grand Magic Games was a long arc that showcased Gray and Juvia’s strong bond and teamwork that is unmatched. Gray would have accepted Juvia’s lunch date request if not for Lyon and his ridiculous bet that Gray didn’t even agree to. During the fight with Lyon and Chelia, Gray comforts Juvia by placing his hand on her shoulder, and she returns his touch. They do a unison raid, winning the battle, and both smiling at each other as they hold hands after. And of course, when the dragons attack, Gray sacrifices his life for Juvia without hesitation. Bonus: 413 Days special shows Gray, blushing and accepting the scarf Juvia made for him, commenting that it’s warm with a smile, one of the biggest signs his romantic feelings for her are growing. When Juvia offers Gray her “Gray-bread”, the only reason he didn’t want to eat it was because it had his face on it, hence why Juvia also made “Juvi-bread” too. Watching the interaction, Cana comments that she thought Gray shot Juvia down before, a reminder of his so called “rejection” right after the GMG. She notes that Gray’s actions (eating the bread Juvia made and being affectionate with her) contradict that “rejection”. Mirajane also affirms this, stating it’s back to status quo, confirming the “rejection” was indeed a red herring as nothing negative has changed between Gray and Juvia. Basically, Mashima was telling us to forget that “rejection” even happened. Further evidence that “rejection” meant nothing includes what happened following the bread scene; everything in the Tartaros arc and beyond. Gray holding Juvia’s hand stating “I’m here with you” is very intimate. Juvia having a significant panel/presence in Gray’s mind before attempting iced shell. Gray’s father, Silver, asked if Juvia was Gray’s woman and then said to take care of him. At the end of the arc, Juvia confessed to Gray it was her that killed the necromancer controlling his father, and said she had no right to love him anymore. She was about to walk away from Gray forever, a selfless act that no crazy “stalker” would ever do. But he didn’t let her. He grabbed her, and sobbed in her chest, thanking her for what she did. The two share an intimate hug as the snow falls. While I placed the Tartaros arc under the “friends” section, you could argue it became obvious Gray started to love Juvia romantically by the middle, or end of it. At the very least, it was clear if they were to end up with someone, it would be each other, no one else.

V. Lovers (romantic/love interest)

Avatar, Alvarez Empire (war), Fairy Tail Final Chapter. Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest (official canon sequel). By this time, it is absolutely clear that Gray and Juvia are meant to be each other’s love interests in the series. A character such as Gray would not just live with a girl (who is in love with him) if she was only his friend. Gray and Juvia shared a house together for 6 months, which again, is deep for this type of series. As we know, Gray leaves her without a word to infiltrate Avatar. I have my own issues with the Avatar arc, but that’s a different story. When the two reunite, we can see that Gray is truly sorry for leaving, as he has trouble looking at her directly when he apologizes. The two fight together, side by side once again. Juvia also picked up Gray’s stripping habit. Before the war, Gray was flirting with Juvia on a balcony, offering her the rest of his candy bar. In this scene, Gray himself trashes all anti-claims about him being annoyed she’s always with him. “I’m grateful to have you. You’re always by my side”. Yes, Gray wants Juvia there with him. Always. He is not repulsed by her, he does not hate her, she does not annoy him. A strong romantic vibe was felt during this moment, as Gray promises her an “answer” (which is presumed to be about his feelings for her) after the battle is over. He would not be saying this if his answer was “no” or if he didn’t have feelings for her. He would not make Juvia wait around for another “rejection”, that makes no sense whatsoever. Anyway, most people agree at this point Gray loves Juvia romantically. During their fight with Invel is when it’s 100% confirmed that Gray loves Juvia, through words AND actions. See the breakdown of the Japanese raw here, including confirmation from a Japanese native. But in sum when Gray said 「仲間を…いや…お前をキズつけたくない…」 “I don’t want to hurt a friend... no... I don’t want to hurt YOU”, “Nakama wo… Iya… Omae wo kizutsuketakunai”, he starts to say “comrade”, but then corrects himself (he actually says “no”), indicating Juvia is more than a comrade. The direct word order would be “A friend… no… it’s YOU I don’t want to hurt”. So now we have the word part down, let’s talk briefly about Gray’s actions. He and Juvia did the same thing (committed suicide) for the SAME reason. They did not want to hurt the person they LOVE. The manga speaks for itself; Gray’s screams of agony and tears upon thinking Juvia died, holding her close, begging her to wake up, beating Invel’s ass in rage mode, blaming Natsu (the book of demons) for taking Juvia away, and his passing out from relief of seeing her alive... that’s love. Period.

As for Gray’s “answer” this was it. I truly believe it was chapter 499. But I also believe because of what happened in this chapter, it caused Gray to hold back telling Juvia how he felt, since we learn later he feels guilty about the scar and that he’s not strong enough to protect Juvia yet. Onto the final chapter of Fairy Tail... I felt it could have been handled better, but I won’t get into detail. The point is, in Mashima’s mind, Gruvia was canon. The west and Japan have very different ideas of what “canon” is. See post: What the word “canon” actually means (Japan vs The West). Japanese fans consider “canon” couples to have clearly defined mutual feelings or are extremely obvious. Meanwhile, the west needs “canon” to be far more explicit, such as dating, marriage, and/or kids. But this is a Japanese manga, written by a Japanese man, and mainly geared towards a Japanese audience. Therefore, as readers, we must consider the Japanese point of view as the intention. Anyway, Gray and Juvia talk about their respective scars, in which Gray feels guilty for her receiving one. Gray said “Your body is mine”, but what he meant was “you’re mine”, all of Juvia belongs to Gray. You do not say this to a friend. Gray is shy, and his mumbling afterwards is irrelevant. Watch this video by a Japanese native to fully understand what Gray meant in the final chapter and why this means he loves Juvia romantically. Juvia herself knew what Gray meant also, hence her excited reaction. Thus, this was meant to be Gruvia’s canon moment, before the sequel arrived that is...

100 Years Quest

While it was confirmed in the original that Gray loves Juvia romantically, it became even more clear in the continuation. Those who say Gray did a complete 180 in the sequel and is now too “lovey” about Juvia must not have paid attention beforehand. Because Gray loving Juvia isn’t out of left field, it makes total sense given the development up til this point. Gray is more open about his feelings now. It’s wonderful character development.

This is the official sequel to Fairy Tail, taking place directly after the original left off. Even though Ueda draws the art, this is STILL Mashima’s story. It is written completely by him. Hiro Mashima writes the story/draws the storyboard, meaning he creates the plot/story, rough drafts, and character’s lines as explained in his youtube video here. Mashima explains what a “name” (aka storyboard) is and how to make them. The 100 Years Quest storyboard he was working on at the time is shown towards beginning of the video. 100 Years Quest Volume 10 includes two of Mashima’s original storyboards for the sequel as well. Since he’s very busy, he doesn’t have time to ink it too, so Atsuo Ueda does the art, which is very similar to Mashima’s anyway.  Mashima also promotes/endorses it on twitter and other places such as his youtube quite often. And has confirmed in multiple EDENS ZERO volume afterwards that he still writes the 100YQ. Hiro Mashima is also credited with the story(board) in every chapter. There are flashbacks in the sequel that use panels/art directly from the original Fairy Tail. That is only allowed because he is the author of this (sequel) story. And finally... the anime for 100 Years Quest has been green lit! Anyway, everyone agrees that this sequel is canon. Continuing on...

Yes, Gray is very much centered around Juvia in the 100 Years Quest. That’s because his development outside of her is finished. He’s completed all his goals except in his eyes becoming strong enough to protect her, and being with her properly. I know some people are unhappy that almost all of Gray’s fights in this sequel have been focused on Juvia, but that’s because Mashima is focusing on his emotional development at this stage. His past (Ur, Deliora, Ultear, Silver, etc) should not be dwelled on anymore. He’s had plenty of battles and moments revolving around that in the original series. Juvia is his future, and now it’s her turn to be Gray’s main focus.

I have never seen Gray blush so much over Juvia as I have than in this sequel. Even in general, Gray has never been so flustered before. He has really come a long way, and gained so much character development. To put it simply, his goal in the sequel is to be with Juvia, for good. When the topic of romance is brought up, Gray blushes with a dorky, but so-in-love smile thinking of Juvia calling his name. This scene confirms once again that Gray loves Juvia, since his comment was “ren’ai ne.../love, huh...” 恋愛 (ren’ai) = specifically romantic love. Following this, we see Gray interact with Juvina, Juvia’s doppelgänger from Fairy Nail. The point of this chapter was to take a look inside Gray’s heart, and for him to gain insight on how Juvia might actually feel waiting around for him. Juvina pointed out some key factors: Gray’s unhappy face thinking about her being a topless dancer because he doesn’t want other men seeing the woman he loves naked, the fact that he did not deny he loves Juvia, that Juvia won’t wait forever, that she feels bad for Juvia, etc. Juvina also told Gray about Glen, and how he acts reminds us of how Gray acts. Although we find out later Juvina and Glen are actually together, it seems like Juvina was simply trying to give Gray some perspective lol. And all those people who still claim Gray hates Juvia, he said “I don’t hate you!” (about Juvia) right in this very chapter. He then proceeds to say Juvia means the world to him, but he doesn’t think he’s good enough for her right now. We see him thinking of the scar she got from their fight with Invel, feeling guilty about it. While Juvina taunts that Juvia won’t wait for him forever, Gray says he knows that and so that’s why he wants more confidence in himself. Juvia’s smiling image comes to his mind again as he vows to become a man who can protect her, and declares he will make her his. What Gray said, “And then I swear I’ll make her mine/And go get Juvia no matter what” is a set phrase in Japanese with a romantic nuance. See the breakdown of the raw here, along with examples from other manga that use this phrase in romantic context. When Juvia appeared randomly on the train, Gray knew something wasn’t right. he even asked her why she was acting so different. Because Gray knows Juvia. Of course, they are always together throughout the white mage/Aldoron arc. The two fought Metro, and completed another unison raid. Gray saying Juvia is his power to live is also romantic because of the way he said it in Japanese. You do not say this to a friend, but we know at this point Gray is in love with her anyway. And because we know that, we know his line is romantic. Juvia knows as well, hence why she was so happy about it, wanted him to say it again, and teased him afterwards. The meaning in Japanese of “she’s my power/strength to live” is “because there is you, I am living”. After they win, Gray pulls Juvia in for a hug, saying he’s glad she’s safe while holding that typical Gray pout and tsundere blush. After the battle with Aldoron is over, Gray affectionally returned Juvia’s embrace in front of his guild mates, much to their surprise.

Edo Gruvia has a son, Greige. His name is actually very meaningful, as it’s a color (combines the colors grey and beige) like Gray and Silver, and a combination of Gray and Juvia’s actual names. For a more in depth explanation behind the meaning, see this post. Gray took a liking to Greige, calling him too cute and wanting to take him back to Earthland. And of course, imagining a blissful life with Juvia and his son during his final battle with Hakune. This said enemy brought out Juvia as the woman sleeping in the depths of Gray’s heart. He also thought about Juvia before battling neko-Wendy, who teased him about being concerned over her. 

Gray’s fantasy speaks for itself. It’s a happy life with his loved ones, and he said this is the world of happiness he imagined. That includes being with Juvia and having their son, Greige. Gray states he wants to stay there forever, but he knows he can’t because it’s just a dream. Gray breaks out of that false reality, stating he doesn’t need to be happy. He wants to make JUVIA happy. Gray is saying he doesn’t want fake happiness in a dream. He wants to make Juvia happy instead, for real/in reality. When you love someone, you want to make them happy. Also, context. It matters. The whole point of this line was to show Gray being selfless; he is putting the woman he loves FIRST. Placing Juvia’s feelings above his own. Luckily...  they have the same dream, lol. Juvia definitely wants to be married, and have Greige. At this point, no one can deny Gray loves Juvia without looking like... a fool. Gray wouldn’t imagine a happy life with Juvia, and having a son with her if he didn’t love her.

And in this dream, Juvia is completely in character. Even her “love rival” mode. Gray loves Juvia the way she is. She appears in Gray’s head multiple times throughout the story. And through his eyes, she is a gorgeous, loving woman with a bright smile. NOT some crazy stalker or annoyance. The volume 9 omake shows a scene right before Gray and Team Natsu got transported to Edolas. We see Gray apologizing for putting Juvia in danger, and her teasing him about his “power to live” comment. Gray promises he will definitely come back from the quest. He looks very determined, blushing, and was about to confess something about what would happen when he returned... but then he vanished. lol. Of course, Mashima/Ueda can’t be that nice, haha.

Gray was super happy to see Juvia again when Team Natsu returned to Earthland from Elentir. He smiled shouting her name, and held that smile while she hugged him. Of course, he asked her how she’s been too. Seeing the affectionate interaction, even Warren and Max note that Gray’s personality (towards Juvia) has changed, which proves my point. In fact, in the volume version of this scene, it’s even more clear. This does happen quite a bit in manga in general. Many mangaka often revise certain things when the volumes come out, including certain kanji and even drawings or extra pages in certain chapters. A lot of the time it’s due to limits in the magazine versions though. Original app version: なんかグレイの奴雰囲気変わったか? “Has Gray’s personality changed somehow?” Volume 10 version: なんかグレイの奴ジュビアへの対応変わったか？ “Have Gray’s responses to Juvia changed somehow?” Or... “Has there been some kind of change in the way Gray responds to Juvia?”

The official Kodansha English translation also reflected this change: “You think Gray’s acting a little... different around Juvia?” “Sure do!”

Here, Mashima/Ueda made it clear that the change is about the way Gray responds to Juvia, and not just the way Gray is in general, like before. Hooray for development!!

(Images to be added later) After Team Natsu left, when Gray fought Sai of the Gold Owl Alchemist guild, the alchemy “LOVE BOND” was used, resulting in Gray taking on the appearance of the woman he’s in love with. Likewise, Juvia at the guild took on the appearance of Gray, shocking everyone. Juvia comically thinks it’s from loving Gray too much. However, it’s revealed Sai did this thinking he could crush a woman, believing women are weak. Gray tells him not to look down on Juvia. Sai is shocked that Juvia is a mage, and Gray asked if he considered the possibility the woman he swapped with would be stronger than him. Of course Sai did not consider that, so Gray called him an idiot. Gray then states he will use Juvia’s powers, and show Sai how strong she really is. So once again, it’s confirmed that Gray is in love with Juvia. But something else amazing about this is how much Gray believes in Juvia, how supportive he is, and how he views her as strong. He then goes on to beat Sai.

I know it was very long, but I hope this meta did it’s job of showcasing Gray’s character development in regards to Juvia, the progression of his feelings for her, and why it makes sense he is now in love with her. I look forward to his confession (of some sort, as it’s set up that way), and the hopefully eventual arrival of Earthland Greige!

✦ Let's Celebrate Raijinshuu Day!

October is almost here, and that means it's almost time for the first annual RAIJINSHUU DAY! A day to celebrate Freed, Evergreen, and Bickslow as the amazing characters and team they are!

All too often they are overlooked as fodder or nothing more than Laxus’ personal cheer squad— but they are so much more than that! Each of them are unique, strong, and loyal members of Fairy Tail, and their admiration for Laxus shouldn’t take away from the fact that they are also his closest friends.

✦ Why October 8th?

Originally, Raijinshuu Day was planned for Dec. 17th, when FT Vol. 13 was released in Japan. But, after a bit more research, it turns out that October 8th, 2008 is when chapter 106 was first published in Weekly Shonen Magazine.

Titled ‘Harvest Festival,’ this is the chapter that officially introduces the Raijinshuu and pretty much kicks off the Battle of Fairy Tail! October 8th also fits with the canon timeline, as they were revealed a week before the Harvest Festival was set to begin. (Oct. 15th.)

This ain’t gonna be a very detailed or long post and most of these are just crumbs but hear me out.. MIRAFREED

This ship.. I remember that, when I started watching Fairy Tail, I really fell in love with these two very hard and I honestly thought that they could end up together.

With how the manga progressed the possibility of this ship becoming canon isn’t realistic anymore (by now, Fraxus would make the most sense to me personally and Mira gives heavy wlw vibes) but that doesn’t mean that I, or we, cannot still enjoy it and all headcanons around it based on the interactions we have or the things we know about them.

Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if, even just for a couple of chapters or a short amount of time, Hiro Mashima had actually planned something for these two. Let’s see..

Starting point is definitely their absolutely iconic fight. “Only a demon can master a demon”. This fight was absolutely feral and so many people loved seeing their demon forms, including me. To this day I have the opinion that neither of these two were allowed to show their true powers in the rest of the manga like they did in their fight against each other (or the Battle of Fairy Tail in general) and that’s a shame because both of them are SUCH powerful mages with such cool powers.

And then of course, the entire interaction that followed up when Mira defeated Freed. I don’t think I have to say too much about it.

Mira’s speech about loneliness and becoming kind and how they both can/could see themselves in those words because isolation has played a part in their lives.

Many people headcannoned that Freed and Mira would go on a date at the next harvest festival and that really is a very wholesome thought. They’d look back at how things were and how far they have come thus far. People can always change.

Post-Battle of Fairy Tail scene

They apparently fought side by side during the Grand Magic Games arc but these scenes were never explored/implemented in the anime - a shame, because I really would have loved to see them fight side by side in more detail and also animated. One of many missed opportunities.

It’s been yeeeeears since these official artworks dropped on Mashima’s twitter and they both were posted around the same time. Similar aesthetics, clothing color and accents, background style?

And then there was this post card set designed by Hiro where they can also be seen being together.

Mira is a passionate and wonderful singer and she also plays instruments. Freed loves musical instruments and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was able to play the one or other instrument himself.

Then there’s Mira’s function as barmaid and the fact that Freed learned to be a host during his time at the Blue Pegasus guild.

It seems that both of them are skilled cooks as well.

So there are definitely shared interests and occupation possibilities.

Oh! Let’s not forget about modelling because we have two very gorgeous people here who are popular among other people as well and have been ranked in the Weekly Sorcerer’s “Wizard I’d like to be my as boyfriend/girlfriend” ranking multiple times.

They’re both the head of their respective teams/groups/trios. And they both can have scary af vibes. (These are some pretty similar/parallel panels and I don’t think it’s a coincidence)

Also just their entire aesthetic and the theme of this ship. Powerful demon couple who’re also attractive as hell and can do occupations like modelling, cooking, hosting with ease. Sweet and devilish sides. They just... “vibe” really well together as two characters.

Like I said; most of these things are just crumbs but they’re still aspects that make this ship so beautiful and years back I would have rooted for this ship to become canon because I genuinely saw a chance for them to be an actual thing. I know I’m not the only one because for some time Mirafreed was considered a ship alongside the big four + Elfgreen (and Laxana, actually) in the fandom.

What Hiro Mashima thinks flirting is:Natsu s/exually harrasing Lucy countless times but it potrayed as so cute uwu because he thinks it's funny

what makes gray teasing lucy about the maid outfit even better is that it's a single moment, and then gray moves right along to another topic. i've seen some people interpret it as gray recognising that lucy was uncomfortable so he moved the conversation along as a show of respect for her.

but what makes it all more tasteful with graylu is that the scene where gray teases lucy about her maid outfit is a one-off, rather than it being the norm for their relationship. this also applies to lucy's side of their relationship, she doesn't sexualise gray any more than he does her, despite him being shirtless so often. whereas natsu's invasion of lucy's privacy and juvia's physical attraction to gray are both played as jokes, when they're overused to the degree that we see with natsu and lucy, and gray and juvia, then the physical comedy-aspect and the "ha ha look at this character objectifying another character" becomes more prominent.

that doesn't happen with gray or lucy! instead they treat each other like they're normal people. because they are. and they're damn good friends, which serves as one of the best bases for shipping and imagining a developing romance that i've seen. the only other semi-canon ships in fairy tail that this also applies to is grayza and nali, and it's fantastic!

Fruits Basket The Final Season

this show deserve to go out with a bang especially my OTP becoming canon 😭

Eden’s Zero 

Seeing one of another Hiro Mashima’s masterpieces becoming an adaption ever since Fairy Tail was wrapped up in 2019 and confirmed we are getting a 100 years quest adaption.

Seeing my boy Shiki getting adapted was mostly the highlight but 10/10 in both eng and jap both Takuma Terashima and Sean Chiplock were perfect for Shiki’s voice.

also its confirmed we are getting a season 2 of this it was literal teased at the end of the final episode which leads in one of the best arcs in this manga.

Eren from Attack on Titan Final Season Part 1

Although I’m not clearly a big fan of the manga’s ending I just hope MAPPA will change it to fit the story but I love how much Eren has grown since well Season 3 Part 2, we get another timeskip 3 years and Eren is 19 now so basically he’s an adult and we see him alot different now.

Turns out Eren has so called betrayed the scouts and take the fight to the people across the sea this time otherwise they would of made a move and its clearly Eren they are after cause of his founding titan power.

Well Eren is not really a scout anymore he’s gone rogue and now leader of the Yeagerists he even turn his back on Mikasa and Armin but I know he was trying to protect them by pushing them away cause all he wants is freedom for him and for the people inside the walls.

Both Bryce Papenbrook and Yuki Kaji sounded great as Eren in the final season.
