Season 2024 Look Ahead

A very quick summary of the dev video posted an hour ago. This summary is mostly skin/champion-related with very little regarding gameplay.

Skarner VGU is very close to being released

An Arcane character will be receiving a VGU early next year -> this was specifically called an "Arcane-inspired VGU", aiming to bring "their Arcane version to the rift" featuring updated visuals, voice lines, and gameplay, which leads me to believe that this character is Viktor though Singed and maybe even Heimerdinger also seem possible.

Shyvana VGU will be released in 2025 after the Arcane character VGU -> her VGU will focus more on visuals and expanding her lore rather than overhauling it. from the concept art, they appear to be working on making her buffer, which was, from what I saw, a common grievance about her Immortal Journey splash art.

Dragon ADC Smolder has been revealed. His abilities can be found in a video posted by SkinSpotlights.

Mel's mother, Ambessa Medarda, will be released as a champion and "won't be for the faint of heart in game".

Arcane S2 will bring new gameplay and new skins -> based on the trailer, both Singed and Warwick appear to be contenders for receiving an Arcane skin. Viktor, especially as a fan-favorite, also seems likely, though I'm not sure how that might work if it is released before his supposed VGU.

The following champions will be receiving a prestige skin in the first half of 2024: Rakan, Ezreal, Kindred, Evelynn, Kayle. Rakan's has already been revealed to be Prestige Dragonmancer Rakan. Ezreal's prestige will be for this year's Lunar New Year skinline, Heavenscale, which will focus more on an ancient thematic similar to Lunar Revel.

Other champions receiving a Heavenscale skin include Lee Sin, Kai'Sa, Master Yi, Diana, Janna, and Smolder. -> this makes Kai'Sa's second Lunar New Year skin when counting Wild Rift's Lunar Fairy Kai'Sa (third if you also include her Special Edition/Prestige), Ezreal's second (third, again, if you count his prestige), and Diana's third without any variants (bc she's the moon get it).

New Primal Ambush skinline revolves around tiger thematics and draws heavy inspiration from Southeast Asian cultures. Champions receiving a Primal Ambush skin include Vi, Talon, Sivir, and Riven, each with icons.

Porcelain, Faerie Court, PROJECT, and Blood Moon will be returning in the first half of the year -> this was not included in the video but was posted by BBB: the champions receiving a Porcelain skin include Kindred (prestige), Graves, Darius, Miss Fortune, Morgana, Irelia, and Aurelion Sol.

Old legendary skins will be revisited to receive loading screen borders.

Rammus and Olaf will probably be receiving skins this year.

S Tier

Xayah - I love Xayah’s design inside and out! She’s a great example of how you can design a sexy female champion that isn’t pure “male gaze.” I would totally get Xayah a tiny skull filled with twigs as a token of my admiration. Also, her lines with Rakan are awesome (”We’re eating chocolate!”)

Ivern trying his best - It doesn’t matter if you int as ADC Ivern, because the emotional support you bring your team just by picking such an amazing and wholesome character is invaluable.

Kindred - YAY!!! The W passive is back!

A Tier

Jhin - I love Jhin, but like any musical lead, he takes credit for the work of an entire invisible stage crew and ensemble (aka Rakan peeling Wukong off of him). By himself he’s useless, which not only means you die without a decent team, but also when he was newer and people weren’t used to him Jhin players would get accused of flaking out on teamfights because he has to be on like, the other side of the map. Also, if you know me you know Jhin is very special to me, but I think Jhin is to an interesting discussion on mental illness what Taliyah is to trans characters -- “it might upset people and it really doesn’t sell, so it’ll just be like a secret part of their identity!”

Draven - Honestly Dravens just tend to dominate. You’re never like, “Oh, a Draven. He does no damage.” Also, Primetime Draven is an amazing skin.

Lucian - I can’t play Lucian for shit, but I respect people who can! He has some great skins, and he can draw a smiley face with his bullets. I hope things get better for him.

Jinx - I don’t actually play Jinx, but I love her Odyssey and Star Guardian incarnations, and as someone who writes garbage League fanfiction for a pretend-living, Jinx makes for an amazing sidekick.

B Tier

Ezreal - Great personality. I mean, awful personality, but in a fun way. Lines for missing skillshots are a bonus. Debonair skin is a double bonus. His character is pretty simple, though on the other hand, it’s a nice change of pace to have a hot male character that you don’t have to genetically re-engineer into having romantic interest in your fanfictions ;T He’d be higher up but I’m low-elo support so when I play SR I’m always saddled with a feeding Ezreal.

Tristana - Tristana is a cutie pie! I used to main her when I first started! Explosions is still not a personality though. I like her new voice lines, but I have a fondness for the old ones and will forever miss them.

Kalista - Cool passive/ulti, and being I feel like whatever they were trying to do story-wise with Kalista they improved upon with Pyke, which makes Kalista kind of bland and useless in that regard.

Kai’Sa - I hate that they made her look like a supermodel but I do like her kit and her gentle personality. She’s one of the few characters in the middle of a spectrum between “fluffy cute happy champ” and “ANGERY SPIKY NO FRIENDS champ” where most tend to be solidly one or the other.

C Tier

Caitlyn - I like her kit. If Pulsefire Caitlyn were the actual Caitlyn, she would be higher up, but as-is her physical design is at best bland and at worst downright bizarre (miniskirt + ringleader hat = policewoman?!?!?) Also, until they give her a VGU, she gets minus points for Sheriff Caitlyn though, which is the only other Cait skin I have. It is an assault on the entire history of splash art.

Vayne, Varus - I have no real opinion on these ones

D Tier

Miss Fortune - Bikini ADC with no personality but a decent kit

Ashe, Sivir - Bikini ADC with no personality

Twitch - I guess I’m just not really big on animal characters, and no one’s allowed to be invisible except Evelynn!! GRRR!!

F---- Tier

Corki - LIMA OSCAR LIMA

Kog’Maw - Ugly, terrible personality, sucks to play against. Can’t respect when he gets a quadra or whatever because he doesn’t even have to move and Void monster champs usually have dumb character motivations.

When Was The Last Time Such-and-Such A Champion Got A Skin

Taking suggestions for a shorter title for these posts.

This list doesn’t take into account anyone we know is on the rework list (Swain, Irelia, Aatrox) or who has been reworked in the past year (Evelynn, Galio, Urgot, Warwick).

When I use the term ‘regularly-released skin’, I mean a skin that is available year-round in the shop. So, legacy holiday/e-sports skins, limited Victory skins, etc. do not count for that. Hextech-crafting exclusive skins also do not count towards regular releases, despite being available all the time, because they’re a pain to get. Nothing wrong with that, but I do think it’s important to differentiate between “skin available for a select amount of time or with a great deal of effort” and “skin that’s always available for cash-dollars”.

I am only listing people who haven’t had a skin in at least two years, so anyone who had one after September 2015 but still in 2015 won’t actually be listed. I am including the current skins on the PBE and am assuming they’ll be legacy.

Champions who haven’t gotten a new regularly-released skin since September 2015: Darius, Garen, Graves, Lucian, Quinn, Sivir, Sona, Teemo, Vayne, Zed, Zac.

Champions who haven’t gotten a new skin at all since September 2015: Amumu, Blitzcrank, Cho’Gath, Fiddlesticks, Mordekaiser, Rammus, Rek’Sai, Rengar, Shaco, Skarner, Udyr, Vladimir, Xerath, Zilean.

Champions who haven’t gotten a new regularly-released skin since 2014: Kalista.

Champions who haven’t gotten a new skin at all since 2014: Heimerdinger, Jarvan IV, Rumble.

Champions who haven’t gotten a new regularly-released skin since 2013: Morgana, Viktor.

What’s changed since the last time I made one of these posts: Annie, Caitlyn, Elise, Nidalee, Twitch, Malzahar, Veigar, and Cassiopeia all got new regular-release skins! Viktor and Zed have upcoming Harrowing skins!

Sivir had her Neo PAX skin released. Since it’s both only available via hextech-crafting and for a limited time, if you didn’t have the original PAX skin, she still hasn’t had a regularly-released skin since 2015.

Yorick has moved off my recently-reworked list, but Arclight Yorick was released so he has NOT gone over a year since his rework without getting a new skin. Unlike poor Shen.

Evelynn and Urgot’s reworks have been released. Swain and Irelia are on the full VGU list. Aatrox is getting a massive gameplay update.

KEYPOINTS:

New Champion: Vanguard Tank from the Freljord; They’re gonna be heavy-cc tanky engager.

Evelynn Update!: Her gameplay is extremely focused on her stealth and shadowy aspects. New juicy narrative coming with her update. She will be released AFTER the new Freljordian Champion.

Xin Zhao: Getting a small gameplay update for his W and a few other minor aspects to make him more interesting and interactive. Aatrox’s gameplay update will be after his.

Azir: Kit Overhaul; Undecided between keeping the Shuriman Shuffle and build a supporting kit that can co-exist with this iconic move or removing the shuffle and pushing his kit closer towards his thematic, which is that of an Emperor commanding his sand soldiers from the backline.

NEXT VGU! - Swain, Master Tactician & Ruler of Noxus: Updating his visuals to better match his theme as the leader of Noxus, as well as doing a major overhaul on his gameplay. (Will most likely release late this year or early next year; early in development at this point).
