the protagonists but drawn like normal grumpuses (mostly to completely naked) to show body types and fur details. this is accurate to their body types, but not to their heights in comparison to each other

The Grumpus Dating Game: Choices, Perfect Dates, and Endings
Like any good visual novel, choices can be made in TGDG to determine how the date ends up. Since I’m new to programming, and don’t want to overcomplicate this, there are two major choices per date, and then three choices during the ending sequence to get the final results.
There is the player character’s choice, which determines whether the player will make a confession or not at the end of the date, and the date’s choice, which determines whether your date will make the confession or not.
There is a positive, a neutral, and a negative answer to each major choice. Making both positive answers will result in a “perfect date,” which triggers a special interaction and ending sequence. Making both negative answers, or if just the player character’s choice is negative, will end the date at the start of the ending sequence, with no confession happening at all. Neutral choices don’t cause anything special and can be considered default.
The date’s choice is the one that lets you make a specific impression on your date. In most cases, this is doing something nice to/for them, taking a completely neutral stance in the situation, or being directly mean to your date.
The player character’s choice is the one where the player decides whether or not they could keep dating the grumpus their with. For Filbo, this is “I couldn’t handle dating a mayor,” to “I would be fine with it,” to “I would like it.” The situation for Wiggle is similar to that, and then all the rest come down to whether they’re compatible character-wise.
During the ending sequence, there are three choices: Asking your date (or your date asking you) on a second date, asking to just be friends, or asking to go your separate ways entirely. These choices show up on the perfect date as well.
Below the cut are all the possible endings and the basic thresholds for triggering them.
Normal dates:
Tumblr media
Neutral:
Go your separate ways with your date on a positive or neutral note. This is the default ending if the player characters choice is negative.
Tumblr media
Good:
Ask to be just friends with your date while on any route that isn’t the date’s choice being negative. Goes unchanged during the perfect date sequence.
Tumblr media
Bad:
Go your separate ways with your date on a negative note.
Tumblr media
Great:
Successfully ask for a second date while not in the perfect date sequence.
Tumblr media
Awful:
Be directly mean to your date and then try to get a second date.
Perfect dates:
Tumblr media
Amazing:
Ask for a second date while in the perfect date sequence.
Tumblr media
Horrible:
Go your separate ways with your date while in the perfect date sequence.

Chandlo and Evelle have a bonfire
Composition notes: Chandlo is holding a bag of marshmallows, but it’s difficult to get that across when there’s not any room for writing.

july is disability pride month so i’m gonna let y’all in on some stuff
quite a few of the grumpus dating game protagonists are disabled :3
including:
Evelle completely blind in their lazy eye, and is mostly blind in their other eye. Their guide dog, Glitter, is with them during their date with Chandlo
Mystiff is also half-blind, completely missing one eye
Indigo is colorblind, specifically tritanopia.
Willah has a stutter
Brisson has chronic pain
Caullie, Willah, and Poppi are autistic
Indigo, Echlo, and Hollie have ADHD
Mystiff has PTSD
I’m doing my very best to research and write these correctly and appropriately for the situations. If anyone has little tips about these, I’ve already found a lot of basics and guidelines for writing characters who have these, but any bit to make sure I do it right helps. I’m autistic and have ADHD, so I feel confident in my abilities with them with what I know, but I’d love little tips.
Happy disability pride month!

Could we see Glitter if you have a reference? :]
Tumblr media
Glitter has no reference to himself, but his clearest depiction is here in a ref of Evelle’s blindness. I didn’t have a particular breed of dog in mind while designing Glitter, he’s just built for running and trained for guiding ^^

CHANDLO’S DATE
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Chandlo, what a fun one! You’re a grumpus in your twenties named Evelle Leeksprout. You met a man online over a shared interest in athletics and hardcore working out, and after talking for a while, you set up a date! Have fun!”
Evelle is strong and quite rough, and is into stamina and running more than putting on muscle. Their aspiration is to run an ultramarathon, and prove themself better than the not-so-good grumpus the people of their past believe they still are. Even so, their behavior is prone to hiccups. Will a man with a good heart bring them the support they need, or will they continue to be the issue?
Remember that all protagonists are non-binary! Evelle is a non-binary bovine-like grumpus with VERY long hair, and comprised of mostly warm colors.
