DECEMBER 2019 GOLD STAR MEDIA SCHEDULES & REVIEW

Members may earn 3 points each (up to 6 points) for writing, by the end of January 7 KST:

A solo para of 400+ words based on their monthly schedule (does not count toward your monthly total).

Overall Company

As the year ends, most of the important company business is still levels higher than idols are privy to. Most of Gold Star’s idols are focused on end of the year festivals or award shows or are already preparing for what 2020 will bring them, but beginning December 1st, the inside of the Gold Star building has been decked out in tasteful and professionally designed Christmas decorations in hopes of keeping employee morale high. Management may be messy lately, but at least the building looks nice!

Gold Star Soloist 1

Her end of the year fan meetings have her spending her New Year’s Eve with fans to celebrate the end of a year of, admittedly, minimal activity for her, though she’ll film a New Year’s Greeting video earlier in the month so all fans can begin the new year with her as well. She’s encouraged by management to reassure fans that a new album is coming in 2020 during the fan meeting to generate buzz.

Gold Star Soloist 2

Though she isn’t nominated for the awards, Gold Star has pulled strings to get her to perform at the Mnet Asian Music Awards this year in a combined stage with BEE (admin note: Gold Star Soloist 2 will be performing “Room Shaker” for her solo portion instead) to spread word of her comeback after so long.

Gold Star Soloist 3

For most of the month, he’s granted a vacation for the holiday season to enjoy himself before Gold Star pushes him into full focus on his English album in the new year, but they are beginning a new series on their YouTube channel to earn him more attention from international audiences, which he’ll be recording for two days this month. First, he’ll do a cover of Anne-Marie’s “2002″, the hottest pop song in South Korea this year, and later, he’ll record a live performance video of his latest single, “Runaway”.

Silhouette

Their comeback last month didn’t do all that well compared to the company’s other girl groups, and, as promised, that means Gold Star is in a position of reconsidering how to market the group. They have landed a new chicken brand ambassador deal, though, which they’ll film a Christmas greeting for as a group, and a photo shoot for Maxim Korea’s January 2020 issue (admin note: though the reference only includes three members, all four members of Silhouette will participate in the shoot), but after that, the members are given a vacation for the rest of 2019 while their future hangs in the hands of Gold Star Media’s recently famously troubled management.

Aria

With their end of the year concerts out of the way, Aria is now focused on their comeback this month as well as more end of the year shows. They’ll be performing both “I’m So Sick” and “Lost N Found” at the shows, passing over “Wag-Zak” since it was a low promotion summer single, with special intros. As one of the artists promoting during the Christmas season, Aria will participate in a series of special stages for Music Bank by performing a cover of “Last Christmas” inspired by the movie Love, Actually on broadcast in addition to their title track (admin note: the performance concept will be more elegant than cute, but the set and line distribution will mirror the reference performance, with the main dancer/lead vocal signing Yookyung’s part and with members wearing the stage outfits in the beginning half of this video).

Origin

More award shows and year-end festivals mean more time spent rehearsing elaborate stages. After their record breaking daesang sweep at the Melon Music Awards last month, it’s more important than ever that they live up to all of the expectations for them. They do take a quick trip to the US to perform at one stop on the iHeartt Radio Jingle Ball tour to form stronger radio relations for their next comeback, and they’ve also been chosen to cover the next issue of Paper Magazine, where they’ll give a (carefully monitored) interview and star in a photo shoot combining their cultural power with that of artist Lisa Frank and Louis Vuitton fashion designer Virgil Abloh.

Impulse

They begin the month in Japan to finish off their Japan hall tour and attend the Mnet Asian Music Awards before returning to Seoul to attend year-end festivals.They’ll be rehearsing for their year-end stages even while in Japan in order to present clean performances. Their sixth debut anniversary is coming up next month, so at some point among their busy schedules, each member will be pulled aside to film a video message to fans for their sixth anniversary. All of the messages will be compiled into one video to be posted by Gold Star on their anniversary.

Fuse

On the 4th, Gold Star releases a statement that the outfit plagiarism controversy has been settled with the designer by “reaching an understanding” and “planning to work together in the future”. That’s one grey cloud lifted from promotions, but “Umpah Umpah” still isn’t really a major hit, even if it’s getting music show wins and Fuse won a song of the year daesang for it a week after release last month at the Asia Artist Awards, and it failed to live up to even their earlier release this year digitally. From what management is saying, it sounds like Fuse won’t be releasing their next comeback for a while, perhaps signalling their status shifting to that of a senior group in the company who can make money in ways other than releasing music or, perhaps, signalling an attempt at seeing if Femme Fatale’s spaced out releases strategy can produce another hit for Fuse as big as “Red Flavor”. It’s not easy to tell and management isn’t speaking to the members directly about it, but in the meantime they’re focusing on rehearsals for year-end festivals and a new gig as LG phone ambassadors.

Element

Element continues to take their tour (including their cover stages from last month) on the road throughout December as tour through Latin American and stop by Toronto briefly to performance amidst a K-pop festival lineup. Both Christmas and New Year’s will be spent in Brazil, but for Christmas, they’ll have the day off to celebrate in São Paulo as they please (within reason). From the 27th to the 30th, they’ll be back in Seoul, but the whole month, members who need it will be required to attend English lessons to prepare for their North American tour the first two months of 2020 and some limited American media interviews Gold Star plans for them to partake in.

Femme Fatale

This month is busy with preparations for the finale to the Japanese arena tour, where they’ll be bringing their revamped round of special stages (please see October’s schedule for their assigned solo stages) and adding a series of special Christmas stages ( “Jingle Bell Rock”, “Last Christmas”, and “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer”) to appropriately celebrate the Christmas Eve date. After that, it’s back to Seoul and onto end of the year festivals where they’ll be performing “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” and “Forever Young”, and a performance at a fan event in their role as Adidas ambassadors.

You were all dressed up with nowhere to go this Christmas Day. It wasn’t bad. In all honesty, you needed some time by yourself. This holiday season had been spent mostly caring for others, and if you didn’t have some quiet time, you punch a wall or a person. Since you didn’t wanna get fired, you decided to treat yourself. Just because all of your events had been cancelled last minute didn’t mean you couldn’t stay in and watch some Christmas movies with some warm food and blanket.

Getting your fluffiest blanket out of the closet, you passed by the drinks you had set up just for the Queen herself. You. It was gonna be a party for one, baby! Something caught my eye outside and I saw that it was snow flurries. It really would be a white Christmas after all, huh?

The snowfall reminded you of the oddest, but best run in you had ever had.

You were at a ski resort with friends but your legs were one more slope away from turning into absolute mush. So as your friends went back out, you decided to get some food and something hot to drink from the snack counter. However, as soon as you turned around, you noticed the broad shoulders in a padded coat too late.

Your vanilla chai landed straight on the floor and your individual apple pie was properly smushed. Not even looking at the person, you fell to your knees and just make whimpering noises. Like legit, you sounded like the saddest little puppy mourning over your lost meal. Did that really happen?

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry!”

You were about to rip him a new one until you saw who it was. His face was legit everywhere, and what a handsome face it was. Kim Seokjin in his tall and broad shouldered splendor was in complete shock as some staff wiped the back of his jacket. The man then got onto all fours to do the lowest bow you have ever seen.

“I’ll buy you another whatever that was. I’m so sorry. I should’ve been looking at where I was going.”

I stood as the liquid began to spread even more. We were pushed out the way for the janitor to clean up the mess even though Jin profusely said that he would do it. Jin bought you a new drink and apple pie and the two of you sat down while things settled. He was there for a photoshoot for his newest acting role. Even though you had been ready to rip his head off not even ten minutes ago, you found yourself falling for his every word currently.

Jin had to leave just after he was complimenting you on how well you spoke Korean, though. An idol never rests! Before he left, however, he gave you his phone number as secretly as he could on a napkin. He winked at you.

“Hopefully, I’ll see you again soon.”

That hope died down as both of your schedules just kept getting more full. You had his number but never the time. Like never. Most of the year passed along those lines of never being able to meet up.

You decorated your Christmas Tree last second. It was small, so it didn’t take too long except you were really enjoying the eggnog you had made a whole bowl of. Christmas music played loud enough to drown out the carolers outside your window. Yeah, the spirit was to be shared and all, but you just were tired of people. It would be fun to share this day with someone though, someone special. Not just anyone.

Reading Christmas cards was fun. Got some money out of it. You sighed and grabbed your camera to take some photos of the snow outside. It looked so pretty in the setting sun.

Your guilty pleasure Justin Bieber song came on and you sang along, “It’s the most beautiful time of the year. Lights fill the street spreading so much cheer…”

Right, the Christmas in July party that happened on vacation a few months ago. That’s where you saw Jin again.

He looked so good in a floral printed dress shirt and matching shorts. You were sort of hoping to slide past him, but he somehow recognized you in a huge sunhat and bright yellow sundress.

“Hey, I’m about to take a boat ride. You wanna come with?” He asked as you two had been catching up for a bit.

“Umm…well…” You said and looked up at him, your face was boiling and peeling at the same time. Third degree sunburn. There were boils all over your legs.

He said that he hoped you felt better soon and that you’d get to do it another time. You said sure and ran off to get into some shade and buy some ointment or something, anything to get rid of the pain.

Now the calendar was just one page, barely even a week left. You were making some last minute calls this Christmas Eve to your parents and friends and other family members that you actually spoke to. Today and tomorrow were days for some self pampering and a time for rest. Even the parties that didn’t cancel on you, you cancelled on them or turned them down.

The last time you even had a chance like this it was Halloween. Jin called that night and said he would pick me up from the party I was at and then we could go hang out together at his dorms. Everyone was out that night partying, but he just wanted a night in with someone he cared about. You said sure even though it was really hecking late, but his car didn’t start. No one else was answering, so you two just texted until you lost your phone in a Halloween punch bowl.

He did send you turkey and spam for part of your Christmas dinner since he was  so busy and couldn’t do it in person. Yes, Spam. He was Korean, and you had gotten used to this tradition pretty quickly. It was in the oven as you looked around for the cranberries you were going to use to make homemade cranberry sauce. Oh no. You forgot them in the basket cuz some weird guy in a Burberry coat was approaching you when you were shopping.

Probably stole your damn berries too.

Either way, you put on your boots and bundled all the way up since it was snowing and went to the all night Lotte store nearby. You went straight back to the produce section and searched for the bag of cranberries. You grabbed them and went to the line with people buying last minute gifts and sch. A familiar sight was standing in front of youin crushed red velvet. Then you couldn’t help but sneeze due to the weather.

The guy turned around and said, “Bless you...wait, (Y/N)?”

In the line was the guy you’ve been chasing all year.

“Oh my god, hi!”

“I thought I’d just be spending the day with my bros. Just got back from a fansign.” Jin laughed. “This year’s been crazy! Like, at least I have a little time for a break.”

You replied, “Yeah, me too. But why are you…” Your eyes wandered to his hand basket. “You mean you forgot cranberries too?”

You two started laughing and laughing in line and as he was called up to be next, you realized maybe Christmas was more magical than you thought. You wouldn’t be spending it alone or with annoying coworkers since Jin asked if you wanted to hang out at his place with the others of course. They were doing the same thing you were, watching movies, drinking eggnog with way too much rum in it and helping Jin cook.

You said yes if you able to turn of your oven at home first. As you walked to his waiting car, the last bit of an English Christmas song played over the store’s speakers.

1 - How and when did you get into BTS?

Christmas Eve 2017, I was home alone and having a very no fun time and a clip of Tae singing the chorus of Baepsae live came on my (old) tumblr dash, and I was like ‘hooooooooooly fuck his voice’ and then I listened to them for the rest of the night and for like two weeks after. That’s when I started trying to get into them as people as well as their music.

WELL Jimin is my bias technically because I always root for him in Run and I love him and feel I can relate to him a lot, but Taehyung is technically my bias bc I want :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I have… no idea. Taehyung probably, bc we’re both loud and excitable and like acting and stuff. Like at first I’m very shy and seem stuck up (bc I’m too nervous to actually talk) but when you get to know me I’m very loud and outgoing lmao. But at the same time, also not Tae bc we’re both similar we might be like trying to shout over each other???????? Idk. Maybe JK??? No idea lmao. I feel like I’d go to different members depending on how I felt, I’m a very ‘vibey’ person and some days I want to cling to certain people, others I don’t want to say more than ten words to them.

Namjoon bc he spoke English and he was the first one I remembered the name of, they all kept changing their hair colours so I kept forgetting but I remembered Joon

Overall company

BC Entertainment would like to end 2017 with a clear spot as the top company in South Korea. Comebacks for BC Soloist 1, WISH and Lip Gloss, and a special winter album for Knight are their plans to ensure this. They’re still stressing a positive image on their artists, particularly a “vaguely attainable but untouchable” one. They are looking to balance fan interactions with keeping enough distance to avoid further scandals. BC Entertainment continues to work and plan future endeavors with Dimensions Entertainment and Gold Star Media.

Decipher

Decipher’s next comeback has been pushed back once again with plans of using them to give BC’s early 2018 profits a boost. Some tracks are being switched out or rerecorded to finalize the tracklist by the middle of the month and a title track is confirmed. Choreography will be learned for the final title track at the end of the month.

Members continue to go through the motions of early preparations for a comeback, but no date has been decided and a final track list and title track have not been decided. If the comeback happens in Q1 of 2018, it is likely to be at the middle to end of it.

Some of the heat has been taken off Knight as they’ve had less spotlight since their last comeback and they sold out their concerts in Seoul last month. A special winter album will be released this month as is customary for the group. They move into the final stages of preparations for their next comeback album, which is slated for January, including a brief trip early in the month to film the title track MV in California.

Following the departure of Jung Goeun, members continue to be encouraged to take on solo appearances and schedules to keep the group’s name in the public eye in a positive light. To keep it from blowing up into a bigger scandal than it already is, even Lipstick members are being kept in the dark about the details.

BC is putting a lot of pressure on the members for this to be a successful comeback to remind the public that Lip Gloss has been successful without Goeun ever being involved, so Lipstick can stay strong without her as well.

Overall company

With Dimensions Entertainment hosting two nights of Dimensions United concerts this month, as well as a 15th anniversary gala, the goal for December is to promote intra-company closeness by having their artists make frequent schedule and supervised appearances together. Inter-company closeness will also be promoted by inviting all artists from both BC Entertainment and Gold Star Media to both concerts and the gala.

The new girl group is currently finishing debut preparations with hopes of debut in Q1 of 2018.

Alien is currently the company’s most active group, as they’ve had a recent resurgence of fans as the lawsuit begins to be forgotten by new fans who weren’t following them at the time. Dimensions views a success story for Alien as the number one way to repair the company’s image and may be willing to redirect their focus from MARS to Alien should their success continue.

Overall company

Out of the three companies, Gold Star Media is the one giving the most artists the most time off this December. They consider this year one where they put out more quality than quantity and as a result are doing well financially, with interest from investors only increasing as 2017 ends. Some artists have busier schedules than others, but overall executives don’t have any complaints for any specific artists and are focused on finalizing their plans for 2018. Gold Star Media continues to work and plan future endeavors with BC Entertainment and Dimensions Entertainment. 

The new girl group is planned to debut this month just before the end of the year and are hard at work preparing.

Overall company

Inter-company relations are at their peak following the Hallyu Triple Fantasy concerts in Japan. All concerts sold out and all companies have agree to another event of the nature. They’re currently in the process of booking venues and arranging dates. The artists are aware of this, although the details have not made it down to them at this time. Dimensions Entertainment would especially like to push relations with BC Entertainment, in order to gain more mainstream recognition for their individual artists.

The CEO’s nephew, Choi Dongwook continues to take on an even larger role in the company. With the current creative director of the company stepping down, it has been announced that Dongwook will be the new creative director of the company, leaving him largely in charge of concepts and development of comebacks within the company from now on. He plans to work more closely with the artists themselves for his directing than the former creative director.

Artists are aware of a new girl group in the final stages of preparations for debut with a concept different from both Gal.actic and 7ROPHY. They're Choi Dongwook’s first official project as creative director.

Coming up on their fifth comeback of the year, fans of Alien are getting suspicious that Dimensions is overworking the group. To focus on connecting with fans, the members will do a V Live every week for the entirety of November, as well as do a fansign and mini-fanmeeting. Members will encouraged to do individual fan outreach as well.

A reality show is in the works for the group, but has not begun filming yet.

None of her singles have sold as well as her debut single “Fly”, but she still sells better than either of Dimensions’ current female groups, so she isn’t on the company’s bad side. As they brainstorm ways to garner her more publicity, she’s on a break to be allowed to pursue activities that interest her most.
