A Moth to a Flame
Eustass Kid x F!Reader (Part 5)
Summary: It’s the morning after. Not the kind of morning where you wake up in somebody else’s bed but the kind where you’re wounded and in a cot. Kid is feeling bad. You’re feeling bad. Let’s see how the two of you handle the wretched ‘what happened last night’ conversation.
Warnings: Mentions of blood & broken bones
Word Count: a blasphemous 9k

A kaleidoscope of colors took up your worldview.
Swirling in an endless grace of sweet blues, deep rich greens, and soft mellow browns. None of them were very recognizable shape-wise. Each was holding something akin to maybe a building floating on its axis or a flower harshly bent at the stem. Either way, you didn’t care.
Eyes heavy with every tear you had ever cried in your lifetime somehow pressed against your pupil. The world cast ripples in your vision until they slowly turned into something more recognizable. Something that felt like home.
Or at least a very small portion of it.
“Just stay here. Don’t make a sound no matter what you hear okay?”
Your Dad's voice floated towards you warm and reassuringly like it always was. Soft eyes followed by his large hand reaching out to hold yours. Your round eyes blinked trying to see him. See him past the water ripples clouding your vision. You felt a warm liquid slide softly down your cheeks before the rippling water gave way.
“Pumpkin, it's okay. We’ve practiced this, remember? Nothing to be worried about, I'll come get you when it’s over.”
You were somewhere mostly dark. The walls were tight and small around you. Your father bent down on one knee, looking into the small wooden cave you reside in. A bright light behind him filtered through his hair softly. Looking down you felt his big hand tighten around your rather small one. Small and soft like it was new to the world. You squeezed his hand back with what little strength you had, urging him not to leave you alone again for just this once.
“D-Dad don’t leave me.” With each word that slipped past your tongue, it sputtered out messily. Your voice was high-pitched and whiny. Desperately wanting to just claw onto the man in front of you so he wouldn’t have the chance to leave. But you also supposed that he was holding onto your hand so tight so that you couldn’t move. So you couldn’t fight to stay with him.
“Baby we’ve been through this I can’t-” a loud rousing of yells erupted from nearby. The piercing sounds of gunfire broke any sense of peace. Each shattering echo made you flinch violently with every draw. Your father turned his head off to the left, eyes trained carefully at something in the room before he looked back at you. All that reassuring love once smeared on his face was gone. Instead that dreaded worry had replaced it.
He let go of your hand quickly. Bringing his hand closer to his torso so you didn’t have a chance to grip him. “I need to go. Stay here. Be silent. Don’t come out unless you hear our secret knock.”
You barely even heard him when he spoke. Barely even processed anything that was happening. All you could hear was your heartbeat twitching in your ears and the sounds of yelling outside.
It made a lump form in your throat. Lunging to either wail or scream or do something. To just do anything but you remained silent. That look in your father's eyes wouldn’t allow anything but silence and you knew that.
So he quickly grabbed something off the wall, using it to close the gap between you and the rest of the world. Between you and him.
Darkness slowly seeped into your space until nothing but a slit of light was fluttering through. Your Dads face peeking in one last time.“I love you Y/N.” He whispered, his voice soft and delicate against your ears like a stray feather floating in the wind.
But before you could even manage to speak he shut the door completely. Leaving you alone with the silence and the screams once again.
__________
Unlike all your other dreams this one didn’t cause you to wake up in a panic. Covered in sweat, your eyes groggily peeled themselves open. Met with just an average wooden ceiling in your view.
Your head was light as if it was full of helium. The corners of your vision were covered in a soft vignette just daring you to fall back asleep. Daring you to slip back into the comfortable numbness. To go back into the hiding place you had so long ago.
That is until you felt a sharp pain erupt in your chest when you breathed in a little too deep. In a rush, you tried to sit up. Contracting your muscles as always but instead of a smooth arising, a sharp pain stabbed at the center of your chest. A yelp escaped your lips and your back immediately stiffened against the cot once more. Jaw clenched in pain as you felt the raw flesh of your throat and lungs. It was like a cat had crawled inside you and scratched down your throat making you regret having made a single noise.
With your head propped up on a thin pillow, you manage to crane your neck to look at the rest of the room.
Am I in a med bay?
It was a small space and there was only one other cot on the other side of the room. The walls only held a whiteboard with some kind of tally marks and a covered window. A couple of counters and cabinets lined tightly right next to you. A mess of what looked like gauze, bandages, and tubs of what you supposed were ointment splayed out. Other than that you were left wishing for more discernible features about where in the hell you are.
Someone had been in here. Someone helped me. Where the hell are they now and what happened?
Being weak and vulnerable in a place you didn’t recognize wasn’t your ideal wake-up situation. But you also supposed whoever brought you here had helped you out. However, that didn’t make the sense of unease in your gut settle down much.
Fingers and palms splaying against the canvas of the cot you tried to ease yourself up yet again. Going at it a bit slower this time yet the second you applied some pressure you hissed in pain. Your hands stinging like sharp needles were tracing each fine line.
Taking your hands off the cot in a swift motion you stared at them now hovering gently above your face. They were both laced tightly with soft yet slightly scratchy bandages. An inkblot test of what you could only assume was blood seeping through parts of them.
I got injured on my literal fucking hands. My stupid hands of all places. What the hell did I do? Fight a raccoon or something?
Rolling your eyes you decided to trace your body for injuries before you tried to sit up again. Hands tracing over your shirt as you looked down at your body.
Wait a minute. Your hands paused, picking up the fabric of your shirt and lifting it closer to your face. This is not my shirt.
Eyes widening to panic you quickly let go of your shirt and felt down your hips to meet the hem of your pants. And these are not my pants.
You were in what seemed to be some spare clothes. Your underwear was still gratefully intact but the rest was just a pair of loose pants and a T-shirt one size too small.
Mouth agape and staring at the ceiling a warm wave of embarrassment washed over you. The apples of your cheeks and the nausea in your gut only getting worse.
Rubbing your hands over your face you tried to hold back any and all complaints. Your voice was fried and no matter how much you wanted to kick yourself and cry about it you just couldn’t.
As you shifted on the cot your hair hit the side of your face. A strong scent that you instantly noticed was the sea lapping at your nose. Your nose scrunched up as you paused your pity fest to sniff at it more tentatively. Not only did your hair smell like seawater, but so did your skin itself. Like you’d been sleeping in a bed of seaweed all night and hadn’t noticed.
Did I go for a swim or something? Gosh did I drown? Even thinking that made you swallow hard. Shame and dread at the fact that you might've done something unwise yet again. But drowning.
The undertones of that world sunk and swallowed your gut hole. Leaving you breathless in the worst of ways as a downpour of shame filled the dips and hills of your mind.
I remember being cold last night. I remember going to that bar. I remember walking home but then I must’ve done something. What the fuck is wrong with me?
Avoiding the imminent doom looming around you, you slipped your hand under your shirt. Immediately feeling the same tight bandage on your side and the center of your chest.
Great so I either have one or two broken bones. You softly rubbed the bandage on your side. Feeling the stark marks of what felt like torn flesh underneath. It wasn’t aching that badly but you knew if you tried to get up again it would.
Bracing yourself for the waves of pain pinching at your flesh you sat up finally. Eyeing the door across the room with small tears pricking your eyes. Your legs surprisingly didn’t hurt at all. They felt tired and worn out as you slung them over the edge of the cot. Yet when you stood up not a shot of pain erupted from anywhere.
Well, that’s good. Just upper body stuff then. You thought, holding onto the cot to try and find your balance. You could feel your body heaving a bit. Which finally let you take notice of the slight sway your body held. However, you couldn’t tell if it was just you being uneasy or the rest of the room swaying along with you.
This…feels familiar. A wave of nostalgia washed over you. Something so distant in your memory yet so raw with emotion. Looking at the window across the room a thought came to mind.
Am I on a boat?
It was a porthole with a blind shut over it. You were almost a bit afraid to go to that window. To open that stupid shade blocking out the warm light of day just to see something maybe you didn’t want to see.
No no no…I’m not on a boat. Why would I be on a boat? This person just likes porthole windows. Weird decorative choice but I’m not one to judge.
Your body crept towards it. A funny yet scared-looking smile tugging at the corners of your lips. If you didn’t see land on the other side of the window something in you was going to snap.
If I just see nothing but ocean on the other side of that window and not even a speck of island then…
You pinched the blind between your pointer and thumb. Lightly tugging on it until it naturally sprung upwards. A wave of light hitting your eyes as you licked your dry lips nervously.
Oh, thank the fucking lord. The docks of your home island were off to your left. The village was out of your line of sight but there was no mistaking the woods and shoreline you’d come to know as home.
Yet this sense of relief didn’t last long. The swaying of your body wasn’t all you then. Nearly pressing your nose to the glass you saw the soft churn of waves hit the hull below you.
So I’m on someone’s boat. A big boat clearly. A stranger's boat. You couldn’t see anything to identify whose boat you were on from this point of view. The window wasn’t the kind that opened so you were stuck just knowing the bare minimum of your situation.
I haven’t been on a ship in…
A growing wave of nausea hit your stomach again. Pitching forward as an unreasonable wave of panic stretches across you.
Walking staggerly to the door you reached out to open it. Giving only a moment's notice to listen quietly for any sound on the other side before quietly turning the knob and peering out.
It was a hallway that stretched out to your left and right. Even if you hadn’t seen the ocean on the other side of that window you still would’ve been able to tell this was a boat from the hallway.
The slightly lower ceilings, the wood paneling making every surface, the lanterns hung up periodically, and the few dozen scratches or patched-up holes from fights. It was tight and it smelled of the sea through faint drafts.
It's as if it had been ripped straight out of your childhood. Taunting you in an eerie reminder of what you were and somehow still suffocating as always.
I have to get out of here.
Without a thought you headed towards your left, closing the med bay door softly behind you. You needed to find a way onto the main deck and though you didn’t know your way around all you needed to find was a set of stairs.
If I’m on the lower side of the hull I gotta be at least one level down. Maybe one or two sets of stairs and I’m out of here.
With panic lacing your heels you noticed an open section of wall lining your right. You hurried towards it as fast as your weak body could manage before turning to see a beloved stairwell leading up. With bated breath, you started to climb it. Your side and chest aching from each little movement. The stairs creaking in some spots which only built upon the nerves ailing you.
When you finally breached onto the upper level you found nothing but another hallway to scour. Though you noticed this hallway was lined with windows unlike the last. Like a projector slide flashing between images, you saw those same windows filled with nothing but the sky and sea. Blurry silhouettes of men much taller than you walking past. Their rough visages and kind smiles just after visions in the blinding light. You blinked in a rush, rubbing over the space of your eyes and fumbling along the hallway.
It was like all the blood had been drained from your body. Weak and lightheaded you swayed with each step. Daring to pass out as another strong wave of nausea wrestled with your gut. It swelled into a deep ache that had you nearly hunched over. Grabbing your stomach tightly and using the wall for support as you shuffled along.
You couldn’t tell why this was happening. Well, you had a good guess but this sudden enveloping feeling constricting your throat was one you’ve had before. Another set of flash card images blurring your vision in memory of your father's much younger face, kneeled to look at you. Looking down the hallway you saw a door at its end. A bright light seeped through the slits and cast warm dusty rays across the floor.
I just need some fresh air. Some fresh air will fix this. I’ll be fine.
Yet this excruciating hallway seemed to be getting tighter and tighter with each step. You watched as the wall groaned as it crept closer toward your hobbled figure. Breath gasping in succession as fear arrogates your veins.
I need to get out of here. I need to get out of here. This thought was a sledgehammer driving into the front of your brain. Forcing you closer and closer to the door until that 30 feet became one and you were a step away from some sense of freedom. With a sweat-covered brow and a shaky hand, you pushed the door open with a loud creak.
Like a flash bomb, the sun hit your face and you could breathe once more.
__________
Kid hadn’t woken up feeling fresh and relieved. He hadn’t woken up with his body feeling in the best shape it's ever been. No aching, no crawling nerve pain, no head thumping like a toddler slapping the shit out of a drum. If he would just lie to himself a little then all of that could be true.
The fact that he had gotten around maybe 5 hours of sleep because he had to stay up in the med bay getting all his bandages replaced wasn’t real. The fact that Killer had to wake up Hip, the only semi-medic on their ship, to clean his stitches wasn’t real. The fact that instead of the screaming fight Kid was expecting from Killer, he was met with silence. Silence that spoke a thousand words of disappointment and shame. Leaving Kid wishing they would’ve just punched it out like they always did.
But what Kid didn’t want to think was real. The thing that absolutely could not be real under any circumstances was the fact that he had brought a girl home. Not the kind of girl wanting cheap sex and some fake affection for just one night. Now that would’ve been normal. If anything maybe that's what he needed on his little break.
Yet instead of a girl dressed in lust, it was the kind that he was forced to stare at for an hour on the other side of the room. The kind that had burned into his retinas so he could see his mistake even when he closed his eyes. A big human-sized mistake just laying there like a corpse daring him to think she was real.
Because the second he reached his ship with you in tow he was hit over the head with a reality anvil. One that broke through the layer of alcohol, delusion, and sadness wrapped around his skull.
They didn’t know whether to treat their captain or the barely alive girl first. Why waste medical supplies on a stranger? So when he had watched Hip look her over he had barely paid attention to her words. Asking him what had happened and why he had brought her back. Though when Kid was finally excused, his body two steps away from slamming against the ground, he gave the fake girl one last look. Hips back to him as her hands traced over the figment of his imagination to check if she was even alive. She had been breathing softly the whole time Kid was forced to get fixed up but she was still dead asleep.
A part of him hoped she wouldn't wake up just so he wouldn’t have to deal with it in the morning.
But of course, morning had come to Kids begrudging dismay. Tossing around in sheets that now reeked of the sea because he hadn’t bothered to take a shower. He smelled, looked, and felt horrible.
I’d rather get beat by a bat than deal with this.
So little to say he started his day in a slump. The late morning did little to motivate him as he washed himself clean and then went to the kitchen to down a jug's worth of water. Dribbles of it spilled down his chin and onto the black tank top he wore. The loose swaying of shorts at his hips and the soft meandering steps of some flip flops gracing the halls.
Thankfully everyone else on the crew had started the day off by going into town to get the shopping done and over with. Kid could nearly see the stacked-up crates lining the dock outside in his near future. Yet he knew if he tried to help he’d get shooed away like some sort of child.
If they want me to be lazy I’ll be fucking lazy. I’m tired of trying.
With black coffee steaming gently out of the cup in his hand he sat down at one of the many tables in the mess hall. Trying to avoid the still very apparent problem that was probably still dead asleep just a floor below him.
He didn’t know what to make of last night. To him, it almost seemed like he was an entirely different person. One that wanted to wallow instead of rise to the challenge. One that wanted to give up instead of fight. One that wanted to save some girl because he could.
What the fuck is wrong with me? He rubbed over his face and brushed back his still slightly damp hair. No goggles to hold it up so it hung a tad bit looser around his face.
I saved one stranger and for what? For her to wake up and give me her thanks? I don’t give a shit about her. I don’t even know that bitches name.
There was no weaseling his way out of knowing why he had saved you. His choice to do it was entirely emotions-based instead of logic. There was no gain, no plan, no need for him to do anything when you fell into the sea.
I just...I just...Kid could barely think the words into existence let alone say it out loud. It’s one of the many reasons Killer had gone silent last night. Because no matter how many times he asked Kid why he did it, Kid couldn’t find an answer.
Kid’s thoughts were interrupted by the soft thudding of shoes walking down the hall. His body naturally froze as he heard the all too familiar footstep pattern of his first mate.
Why isn’t he out there with the rest of the crew? Shouldn’t he have left?
A sky blue and cream-colored mask came into sight as Killer rounded through the doorway. Taking a second to look Kid over but otherwise disregarding him as he turned sharply towards the open doorway of the kitchen. Not a single word leaving his lips.
Great. Now he's going to give me the cold shoulder then huh?
“So what? You’re just not going to talk to me?” Kid questioned demeaningly, a lick of vulnerability swirling underneath the thin surface of his tone.
Killer slowed to a stop, turning his head to gander once more at the redhead's large body filling up a small portion of the mess hall. “No. I just wanted coffee.” His voice was smooth and simple but Kid could still hear the underlying sarcasm he was barely holding back.
Kid clicked his tongue softly. Hardballing Killer as if he had said the most idiotic thing in the world. “So you decided to stay on the boat for some coffee? Shouldn’t you be out there? You’re the one in charge of the restock anyways.”
Killer’s voice punched out a little more than before. As if he was just now fully waking up. “I am but I thought you’d need me here. Can’t leave you alone with our little...problem.”
Is he tired? This thought floated in and out of Kids' brain immediately. Killer was always an early bird compared to him. But he knew if he could see past that mask of his, he might see the unusual purple hue sagging below Killer's eyes.
“I can handle it just fine. I’m going to give it a bit. Drink my goddamn coffee and then go down there and throw our problem out. Simple.” Kid’s voice didn’t sound as resolute as he hoped it would. He didn’t have a plan on how to handle this. He barely wanted to speak to the woman let alone throw her overboard, especially with all the injuries she held.
Injuries and death that me and my crew saved her from. Kid swiped his fingers over his eyes. Rubbing them to let the darkness behind his eyelids swirl.
Killer let out a low grumble and scratched the back of his head. Tufts of blonde hair getting frizzy as his voice became even more fatigued. “Is that right? Well, I think you’ll need me. If only to make sure you two don’t argue and she hopefully just leaves.”
Kid just stared blankly at Killer. Using the small amount of brain power he had left to look him over. He is tired. He only stayed up for an hour to watch me when I was getting patched up. Why the hell does he sound like that?
“Whatever. You don't think I can handle one girl so don’t fucking give me that.” Kid picked up his coffee mug. Taking a slow sip as he tentatively eyed his first mate.
Killer paused before he spoke. Chewing his lips a bit and turning back towards the kitchen doorway. Walking over to it and still talking to Kid despite the distance. “You can handle one girl but I don’t think you can handle one girl that you saved. She’s going to ask questions about what happened and why you did it. I’m going to be there to give answers when you inevitably fuck up and don’t say anything.”
Kids' eyes widened at that. A rush of embarrassment and a bit of anger rose to his cheeks. Taking another quick gulp of his coffee before cocking his head to the side. “You don’t know what I’m going to do. She doesn’t deserve any fucking answers so what does it matter anyways? You don’t have to be her shrink and tell her it's going to be alright.”
Killer's body slipped past the doorway and out of Kid's sight. Letting him only faintly listen to the sounds of him grabbing a mug and picking up the coffee jug. “Well if she was persistent about speaking to us last night then I doubt she won’t be this morning. You’re giving a psychotic fangirl a chance at being on our ship. Better yet the guy she wanted to talk to saved her. She’s going to ask questions. Questions I know you don’t want to answer.”
Killer spoke just loud enough for Kid to hear him. Kids face contorting more and more into pure and utter annoyance at the obvious facts that Killer was spilling. “She’s not a fangirl. We don’t have fans Killer were fucking pirates for Christ's sake.” Kid protested, his voice barely audible to Killer's ears.
“Yes, she is. She followed us last night. I know she messed with you or whatever. But love can often get mistaken for hatred. She probably just lied to herself for an excuse to be around us.”
Kid's eyes nearly popped out of his skull hearing that. The grip against his mug becoming firmer and firmer as he watched Killer stride back into sight. Now holding a steaming cup of coffee and heading over towards him.
“Don’t fucking say that to me.” That was all Kid could manage. If he said anything more than that a blood vessel might pop and he’d be left with the bloodshot eyes of an insane man.
Love can get mistaken for hatred? What the fuck is Killer on right now?
Killer eased down into the chair across from Kid. His mug thudding softly against the wooden table and a low grunt of discomfort rolling off his tongue.“What? Don’t you think that girl was flirting with you? I thought about it last night and it seemed weird. Like she had some sort of other agenda about why she was talking to you besides the whole ‘her being worried about you pillaging the town’ or whatever.”
As Killer settled in with his hand holding up his head by the soft fur of his chin, Kid was tensing up. His jaw stretched and snapped tight like he had to pry it open with a crowbar before speaking. His cheeks turning that uncharacteristically shy shade of red. “I don’t know why the fuck you’re telling me this. She can have whatever agenda she wants. I just don’t ever want to deal with her or see her ever again.”
Killer couldn’t help but find Kid's reaction a bit amusing even if it was surprising. Kid wasn’t one for affection and Killer knew that. That’s why seeing Kid turn red at the thought of this girl's supposed crush was extra funny. So much so that he couldn’t help but make it a little worse. “Then why are you getting red in the face? You’ve had girls swoon over you before. Is it just the fact that this one might want to get into your pants that bothers you?”
“Killer I’m going to reach over this table and rip your head off if you keep this up.”
Killer's tired demeanor became much more mischievous. A wry smile tugged at his lips and he leaned forward to speak in a sarcastic yet smooth and romantic way. “I bet it was amazing for her last night though. A big strong man comes to save her just at the right time-”
“Kil I swear to god-”
“Both of you were drenched and grasping onto one another. Looking into each other's eyes and whispering sweet nothings in the moonlight-”
“Killer shut the fuck up-”
“That girl was probably so turned on she was rubbing her thighs together. Wishing you’d just take her-”
“KILLER!” Killer got fully cut off when Kid lunged at him. Standing up and taking his first mate by the collar to tug him forward. Nearly knocking over his coffee in the process as Kid snarled at him.
Killer could barely hold back a laugh. Smiling wildly underneath his mask he softly patted Kid's arm to ease him off him. “Ah okay okay sorry. Couldn’t help myself. It’s payback for last night anyways.”
Kid's hand slowly loosened up. His cheeks burned a bright fiery red as he sat back down in his seat. Steam nearly puffed out of his nose as he took a deep breath. “Yeah? Well, it's a stupid fucking way to get your payback. It wasn’t like that. Quit making me out to be some kind of hero, asshole.”
Killer eyed his captain in a attentive yet loving way. He loved whenever he got a chance to get under his skin like this.
And maybe this does make up for last night. We don’t have to focus on our fight. Just the girl.
“Well, I’m not letting it go. You saved some girl and brought her home. That’s hero behavior for sure.” Kid looked at Killer dead on, his face going slack with annoyance again. It made Killer pause for a moment feeling just a tad bit guilty, “But maybe it wasn’t romantic at all for her. Forget all that shit I said about love or whatever. I was just spitballing ideas anyway.”
“Well, I could tell. Saying that shit like you had any idea what you were talking about.” Kid rolled his eyes and finished off the last of his coffee. Letting the smooth and bitter liquid roll down into his stomach to gain an ounce of motivation for the day ahead.
Killer took a smooth sip of his coffee through the little bendy straw he brought along. Just nodding his head like he agreed though he was still pretty sure something more was going on with you.
Or maybe all that blushing means something more is going on with Kid.
A sudden loud noise erupted down the hall. It sounded close but at the same time echoed through the small enclosure and into the ears of the two men sitting idly together. Kid's body perked up, looking over at the doorway out into the hall expectantly.
“Is there anyone else on the ship right now?” Kid mumbled, looking over at Killer who had put his mug down almost instantly. Staring at the doorway more hesitantly than Kid.
“No. Just us. Everyone already left. I made sure of it.” They both looked over at each other. Their shared brain cells functioned at a slower rate before they both came to the same conclusion.
“It’s the girl.” Kid whispered, Killer's head nodded in agreement as they both started to stand up and head out into the hall. Kids empty mug and Killers half full one long forgotten as they walked towards the source of the sound.
“Goddamn, I was hoping she’d just stay asleep.” Kid mumbled to himself more than anything. Picking up the pace a bit as two sets of heels rampantly thudded against the wood below.
“I think it came from on deck.” Killer's voice was quiet. Mimicking the hesitation Kid's voice held. If they thought about it enough, they should be making their presence known. Yelling so she didn’t think she could run off with one of their possessions if that's what she wanted. But if they didn’t make their presence known, then maybe they wouldn’t have to deal with her. She could slink away on he own accord without talking to them.
It was a juxtaposition between hesitation and necessity as they reached a door. Pushing it open and stepping out together to scan the deck. A chill ran down Kid's spine as he felt the brisk wind hit his bare legs. Within an instant, he saw you but of course, you had a habit of surprising him at this point.
“Shit.” You mumbled under your breath. Panting softly as you clenched tightly onto the banister of the stairs leading down to the lowest part of the deck. Your face was a shade paler than usual. The blood ran cold inside of you as you desperately tried to pretend you hadn’t slipped on the stairs not a minute ago.
“H-Hey guys. What’s up?” Kid could instantly tell by your voice that you were hanging on by a thread.
Well, I think anyone with eyes could tell she’s a fucking mess.
“What are you doing?” Left Kid's lips before he could even really contemplate what was happening. Walking closer to the upper edge of the stairs to look down at you. Killer in tow with his hands crossed over his wide chest.
You looked between the two large men like you had done the first time you met them. The blondie is still quiet and reserved. The redhead, or Kid you supposed, is demeaning and talkative.
They’re already tall enough. They didn’t have to take the high ground for Christ's sake.
“Nothing.” Kids' eyebrows of course rose at that. Leaving you stuttering to come up with something that didn’t sound stupid. “I mean not nothing but definitely something. I don’t know.” Your body swayed a bit as you gripped the banister even tighter. You’re fingertips turned a shade whiter as you swallowed down what felt like oncoming nausea.
Did they kidnap me? Is that the only reason why they decided to patch me up was to sell me off? I can’t just tell them I’m leaving if that's the case.
“Well, you falling on the stairs doesn’t seem like nothing.” When the blondie spoke it partly startled you, it was the first time you heard his voice. It was similar to Kids as if they were from the same area. But it was slightly higher and more raspy in tone. It almost made you forget what the man had even said. A blush rose to your cheeks as you shook your head defensively.
“Well, I’d like to see you try to walk down some stairs with wounds and nausea asshole.” That slipped past your tongue before you could even reel it back in. Still holding on for dear life as the panic seemingly never wanted to settle in your veins. “I feel like I got gutted. What the hell happened to me?”
Killer didn’t mind being called an asshole, he's been called much worse. But watching you spit that out with such a raw look of utter exhaustion and frustration on your face was a bit much. You seemed to be falling apart right in front of him for some reason.
Was she hurt that bad?
“What the fuck is with you? Are you about to keel over right now?” Kid took Killer's thoughts right out of his mind. The girl had barely walked that far from the med bay but she seemed to be sweating and breathing heavily like she had run a mile.
You frowned at the two men, taking a deep and shaky breath before you spoke. “I don’t like it on this ship. I want off and I want to know what happened.”
Whilst Kid's eyebrows furrowed, Killers raised. Confusion struck both of them at the mere fact that you didn’t seem to remember the events of last night. “So you don’t remember?” Killer asked calmly, taking a hesitant step down the stairs towards you. You’re shaky pupils locking onto him in fear.
“No, I don't remember. I don’t remember anything past…the walk home I think. What the fuck did you people do? Beat me and dunk me in water?”
The instant you said that Kids' anger rose from about an average 5 to an 8 out of 10. His one good hand clenched into a white line of knuckles as he stepped down the stairs in a stomping motion towards you. “We didn’t fucking beat you dumbass! We helped you. If I wanted to beat you I’d do a much better job than the fucking ocean did.”
The second Kid started stomping down the stairs towards you, you turned around. Finishing off the last couple of steps with trembling knees and scurrying out into the middle of the deck a good distance away from him. “Stay the fuck away from me!” You yelled putting your hands up defensively even though you felt like a pile of Play-Doh.
Kid paused when he reached the bottom of the stairs. Clicking his tongue and watching you with predator-like precision. “That’s not a nice way to say thank you.”
If your frown couldn’t get any deeper then somehow it found a way. Your throat tightening up like his huge fist was somehow already around you. “What do you mean the ocean? I..drowned didn’t I?” You ignored his other comments. This man didn’t deserve a thank you until you knew what had happened.
“Yes, you fucking did brat. Your fatass fell into the ocean. You ended up here with a fresh set of bandages.”
You barely even registered the insults he was throwing your way. Just swallowing hard as he called you a fatass before wearily speaking once more.“But…how…how did I end up falling into the ocean?” Your voice became a hint softer, frustration bleeding into sadness and maybe even regret.
“Because you’re an idiot that's why. You thought the jetty was a walkway and got swallowed up. It's all your fault so don’t blame me.”
Kids' harsh words hit you hard. Eyes daring to prick with tears as you took a minute to just settle into what you had learned. A weak and bandaged hand raked through your hair as you stared at the ground below you. “Shit.”
The two men just watched you work through it. Both of them having a hard time trying to understand why the hell you seemed so sad about it.
What the hell is wrong with this girl?
“Quit being a brat and dwelling in it. You survived and because you survived you get the honor of personally walking off my ship all by yourself like a big girl.” No matter how hard Kid tried he couldn’t strain himself to be any more reassuring than that. It's not like he wanted to be reassuring but you seemed to be an absolute mess in need of a push. A push off his ship that is.
And though Kid was taking a more aggressive approach Killer couldn’t help but notice the turmoil you were in. Walking past Kid and slowly approaching you with as much benign energy as he could. “Are you okay?”
You looked horrible. Face still a shade paler and your eyes glossed over somewhat. The clothes they had given you stuck to your skin with sweat. Your body swayed even more as if you were caught in a much stronger current than the one currently rocking at the boat.
His voice barely reached your ears. Those same memories, visions, and blood-curdling screams drowning you out. The warm fire on your skin. The ice-cold water in your blood. You tried not to pay attention to it. Eyelashes fluttered closed as you rubbed over your eyes. The darkness did little to help you as you stumbled backward.
Something took hold of Kid's heels as he walked closer to you. Stepping past Killer to land just a few feet in front of you. His chin tilted down to leer at you though his eyes couldn’t help but wander. Trying to pierce through the strange weak form of a woman you had become.
“What’s wrong? You’re fine. It can’t hurt that bad if you’re walking.” He spoke, his voice a bit quieter yet still just as harsh.
What the hell is she doing? Faking this shit for sympathy? Nothing bad is happening.
Hearing Kids' deep voice so close startled you out of your stupor. Your shoulders twitching as you finally slip your hands off your face to look up at him.
Kids eyes widened seeing wet crystal-like tears on the ridges of your eyes. Mouth going slightly agape and eyebrows raising in what you assumed was disgust.
“I’m fine. I can handle the pain. Just get me off this ship.”
Kid was confused to say the least.
Is she crying because she got hurt or because…she doesn’t want to be near me? Because she wishes it wasn’t me that saved her? For some reason that thought made his mind blare red. You’re once helpless figure now cast in something weak and greedy in his mind. A leech on the stray strands of his kindness that he felt like plucking and squishing to death between his fingers.
“Are a few screws loose up there or something? Why the hell are you crying? I let you on my ship that you were drooling over. I used my supplies to bandage you up. I gave you my precious and invaluable attention for more than a few minutes. I even risked my life to save your ass. You should be fucking thankful not crying.”
Killer's mask glided between the two of you. Your face scrunched up in confusion as your lips parted to speak. But before you could utter a single word he piped up. “Kid, what are you doing? I told you I could handle this.” Both you and Kid looked over at him like you had forgotten he was even there. A deep scowl turning more rich with wrath as Kid eyed Killer.
“I’m doing what I fucking want to. I told you I didn’t need your help.” Kid stormed closer, forehead laced with lines as he kept breaching the gap between you and him.
You couldn’t help but look at Kid with even more confusion. Phasing past his words speaking of your ungrateful self to focus on one part that didn’t quite make sense. “Wait did you just say you...saved me? Were you the one that found me?” Wiping your tears with the back of your hand in a quick motion you took a tiny step closer to the man. Not at all afraid of that look of wrath he seemed to be fostering in his eyes.
It was Kid's turn to feel a spike of panic as his cheeks daringly went a shade red. “N-No I didn’t save you! You’re a fucking idiot to assume I’d save someone as worthless as you. I would let you drown without a thought so don’t get me wrong and quit avoiding the question. What the hell is wrong with you?”
Despite the obvious turmoil you were feeling, another round of anger splashed into the cesspool of your mind. “Nothing is wrong with me! I’m fine. I just don’t like being on ships. I need to get the fuck off this thing like right now.” You looked away from Kid, shuffling towards the nearest banister parallel to the dock.
With one brutal step Kid bounded towards you once again. Spit flying past his red-painted lips as he spoke. “What do you mean you don’t like being on ships? Are you seasick or something? My boat is barely swaying ya baby.”
“It’s not sea sickness. I just don’t like it okay? Can you quit asking me why and just help me?” You kept just trying to walk away from Kid. Eyes scanning the deck trying to figure out where they kept that plank to walk down on.
Kid paused as he watched you. Your short fluffy head whisked in the wind as you helplessly looked around for a way off.
Is this girl always a helpless little puppy?
“Well, I’m not helping you until you thank me. So get off this boat yourself or fucking fall off I don’t care.”
“Kid don’t you want her gone?” Killer whispered huskily. Of course, it caught your ears though. Turning your head briskly to look between the two men as they exchanged sideways glances.
“What I want is a thank you from her but she’s too much of a brat to cough it up.” Kid laid it on real thick as he spoke. Taking the time to pronounce brat harshly as if his tongue was dripping with venom.
You swiveled your head back towards Kids. Sharp teeth coming into sight as you snarled at him. “Can you stop patronizing me? Quit acting like you're the better person here or that I owe you anything.”
“You do owe me something! A goddamn thank you and maybe an apology while you’re at it. Do you think you deserve to be on my ship? Do you think I wanted to deal with you? I’ve been putting up with you the moment I came ashore instead of fucking relaxing like I was supposed to!”
“How is that my fault?! You never had to talk to me at the bar. You never had to save me or whatever you and your crew did. I was just there doing what I wanted to and you made it your problem. So boo-hoo bitch you fucked up your vacation!” You flung your arms in the air and brashly pointed at him. Quickly turning around and stomping towards the banister in a rush. You gripped its wooden edge, leaning down to look at the fear-inducing height between you and the dock.
Kid couldn't believe what he had heard. Well, he could believe the name-calling and the crass tone in your voice. And though those things made him want to boil over it also made him want to disappear. You were right. He did inherently inject himself into all of your problems. He put himself into the line of fire that was you. And though he knew this deep down it wasn’t going to stop him from telling himself that it was a lie. That you were the villain plotting nefarious plans to make his life a living hell. That the moment you were finally gone maybe things would start going his way. Even so, he didn’t exactly understand why he wasn’t just escorting you off his ship if that was the case.
My life would be easier with her gone. So why do I need this? Why am I keeping her here? She means nothing to me.
That thought crossed his mind just to turn his cheeks red. His knuckles were white as he wiped off the small layer of sweat across his brow. He could feel his stump twitching with a pulse. The new bandages doing little to hide the fiery sensation pinching at his nerves.
That’s it. I’m ripping her fucking head off. He watched you with keen eyes. Not willing to speak in case he let something slip that was beyond him. Beyond what he was willing to admit.
Killer cautiously stepped closer to Kid with pleading yet gentle steps. “Hey, I can handle this. Go inside. She’s being a bitch I realize but you're in no shape to-”
“To do what? Kill this bitch? Let me handle it Kil. She’s my problem.” Kid roared, your head jerking backward to watch the two men. With yet another string of panicked actions, you tried to sling your foot over the banister. A ripping pain snapping through you as it pinched the injury on your side.
If there is a God can they just give me a break and let me get off this damn thing!
With quick succession, you tried to jump onto the banister once more. Hooking one foot over quickly and bouncing up to sit on the carved railing. Your ass slammed against the ridged wood making you grunt and lean over in pain. Hanging one leg off the side of the boat as you looked down to sea the line between dock and saltwater below you.
“What the fuck are you doing? Do you want to fall off?” Kid couldn't believe how stupid you were. Your round body hanging off the edge into what could be yet another nose dive into the ocean. “Are you trying to drown again because believe me sweetheart I can make that happen.” He growled walking towards you.
That look on his face spoke a million words and all of them screamed murder. But in the other direction was of course a one-story drop that made piss nearly trickle down your legs.
SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT.
“Okay okay! I’m sorry! I said I’m fucking sorry so stop!”
This wasn’t your proudest moment but it was one you hoped to walk away from with all your limbs intact. Despite your pleas, Kid didn’t come to a stop. Still barreling towards you as if he hadn’t heard a thing. You tried to shuffle off the banister but he was already right up on you. Watching with shadowed eyes as he leaned uncomfortably close. His face was a mere foot away as his one arm grabbed onto the railing to close you in.
“I don’t know. That didn’t sound very genuine to me. How about you try again?” The intensity of his voice was suffocating you. His mountain of a body caging you in and his face far too close for comfort.
You could nearly feel his breath fan across you as your cheeks slowly blossomed a deep red. Trembling lips followed by a quiet voice to match your submission. “I’m sorry for bothering you and being a nuisance.” You swallowed hard, dryness tearing at your already sore throat. If your blood was cold before it had gone even colder.
Kid's eyes flickered between yours. Soaking in that look of fear and desperation running across your face. It was palpable to the point where he could taste it on his tongue. Sweet and sour like the softness of your voice but the bitterness in your eyes.
Finally, the kind of reaction I deserve. He thought without a word. The silence between the two of you was so raw with tension. Egging on your fear even more. “And what else do we say? Don’t make me push you off so be a good girl and just say it.”
Confusion flashed through you. Blinking back and forth between his amber orbs. “What?” Your voice was so soft Kid could barely hear it. Cheeks going aflame as you leaned off to one side trying to get away from him. But as soon as you did that the boat tipped. A wave rocking along with you and your pants providing little friction to keep you upright. You tried to squeeze with your thighs but they slipped along with your hands. “K-Kid help!” You yelped, your body slipping right off the banister towards the waters below.
Kids eyes widened watching this all unfold right in front of him. He didn’t make a move to help you right away but as soon as your body dipped too far off and your legs unhooked from the banister he reached out. Taking hold of your forearm with a vice-like grip. “F-Fucking hell.” He let out a deep grunt. Abs leaning over and onto the railing to reach you. Your once-falling body now slack against the side of the hull. A wretched yell of pain escaped you as your injuries spasmed.
“Ahh fuckin shit K-Kid help me up!” Your other hand grasped onto Kid's forearm. Feet trying to kick upwards to propel you more.
“You’re not fucking light ya know!” He inhaled deeply through his teeth. His jaw clenched tight as he struggled to keep ahold of you. You’re soft arm slipping in his sweaty hand.
“Captain?”
Kids' eyes break away from your lingering stare up at him. Finally noticing the contents of the dock below. A line of his crewmates were standing idly watching the two of you. A few baskets and crates in hand as if they had paused mid-step to spot the two of you.
Kid didn’t know what to say. Almost forsaking you as his arm naturally went limp. “Kid!!” His body flinched back into life when he heard your voice again. Muscles contracting once more to reapply pressure before you slipped out of his grasp.
You didn’t dare look down at the crowd below you. Eyes focused on Kid and the fast approaching footsteps of what you assumed was Killer not too far behind. But Kid's eyes weren’t on you. Dare say they had paused in one particular spot further down the dock towards the island. Once wide and glossy with embarrassment now honed and focused on something else.
“Who is that?” Kids voice was low and quiet. Pulling you up towards him with a breathy grunt. Killer finally took up the space beside Kid. Grabbing onto your other arm and effectively sliding you over the banister like a towel.
Sliding onto the deck your head almost slammed right into Kid's chest. Killer quickly let go of your arm. Grabbing you by the shoulder to steady you until you stayed upright.
“Y/N?” a voice called. With wobbly knees and blushing cheeks, you held tightly onto Kid's arm for support. Your breath hitching in the realization of who Kid was asking about. Slowly and unsurely you turned your head towards the source of the voice, only to find the worst-case scenario just standing there.
“H-Hi Dad.”
Tumblr media
A/N: Okay okay okay I realize that I’m making Y/N like EXTREMELY clumsy for no reason. It’s apart of her character yes but I promise she isn’t always the classic clumsy girl in need of saving trope!! Things will change. She will get better. She’s just GOING THROUGH IT right now. I mean like drowning, then on boat you don’t know, to fear for lore reasons, to angry man threatening you, to almost dying again!! Like it’s BAD BAD for her rn. ALSO I hope ya’ll are concocting some sweet ideas y/ns past lol. I feel like I’m making it too apparent but I’m also not sure??? There’s a lot to unpack there.

a/n: of course you can dear! this is the closest I've come to writing a soft Kid this whole event lol, I hope you like it! and thank you you're so kind for everything you said <3
#4 + #5 🎃 - baking sweets and watching a horror movie
pairing - kid x gn! reader
Tumblr media
Come join the event!
“Stop eating the dough.” You playfully smack at the redhead’s hand to put the cookie dough down. He groans but puts it back and moves out of the way so that you can mix another ingredient in.
“Then hurry up, the movie is waiting.” He leans back against the counter top and watches you peacefully work. He’s entranced by how delicate you are with everything you’re making. Your cookies are always the best so as impatient as he is, he’s willing to wait.
He slips behind you, carely grabbing your waist and moving you to the side so he can help. Kid isn’t as delicate as you, but he’s still efficient and can follow your guidance.
He takes the cookie cutter and cuts out shapes from the dough, occasionally glancing over at you to make sure he’s doing everything correct. You catch his gaze and smile and his eyes dart away, his cheeks are a dusty pink
“Just a few more, we can start the movie once they’re in the oven.” You both make quick work of the rest of the dough together and soon enough they’re in the oven.
The movie is a classic slasher, one of your favorites. Accompanying it, you both had bought plenty of junk food beforehand to eat along with the sweets you baked.
“How dumb do you have to be, stop splitting up!” Kid groans in annoyance as the teens split up to go find their friend, who was most likely already slaughtered by the killer. “If I ever suggest we split up, you have full permission to slap me.”
“Aye aye captain, I’ll keep that in mind.” You reply, your voice muffled by the pillow your face is half buried into. You doubt you’d have time to split up before your boyfriend would be starting a fight with the killer.
You flop back against his chest and make yourself comfortable, watching the move closely. His arm wraps around your stomach and he rests his chin on your head. The excitement has begun to pick up in the movie as you’ve gotten comfy.
The girl creeps down the stairs, holding a knife close to her chest and the fear in her face it's clear. She peeks around the corner and
Ring! Ring!
The oven timer goes off and you both groan, barely paying attention to the girl who’d be caught. “Can you pleaseee go take them out of the oven?” You ask with the biggest doe eyes you can muster.
“Nope.” He grins and hoists you up with him, throwing you over his shoulder and bringing you along into the kitchen

I don’t know if you’re still accepting for the love letters but in case you are may I please request Kidd for the longing letter? Thank you for your time
I am indeed still accepting them! Thank you for your request! I hope this is okay!
Message in a bottle: Kid- Longing
Tumblr media
This island was officially the worst.  Not only had there been a pacifista on the island as well as a navy officer but Kid had been reckless as always but this time it hadn’t paid off. He had been wounded badly in battle. You and Killer had stepped in to give Heat and Wire enough time to get Kid back to the ship. In the mayhem you both managed to escape capture as well darting off into the forest, the plan was the meet up on the opposite side of the island.
That was easier said than done. This forest was thick with undergrowth making it difficult to walk through. You both collapsed at a river to stop for five minutes. A loud squawk caught you both off guard as a large parrot landed on Killer’s helmet
“Isn’t that the parrot Kid bought?”
“Why couldn’t he just call?” Killer sighed grabbing the bird from his head and taking the rolled up parchment from it and glancing over it quickly before he handed it to you.
The smell of oil and metal could be smelt from it. The scrawly handwriting in red ink and of course no terms of endearment: at first.
Where the hell are you?!
I wake up feeling like I was stood on by a giant, bandaged up like a mummy and to Heat’s stupid face! Where are you? How am I supposed to rest like a ‘good patient’ when you’re not here giving me a reason to stay in this stupid arse bed? I’m only still laid here because apparently my guts fell out! Well they’re back where they belong now, so if you’re not back soon I’m going to come find you!
Also Killer better be with you damn it. If he’s left you alone I’m going to shave the bucket head bald when he gets back.
I swear if anything happens to you out there- Well. I’m gonna be pissed!
I need you here! With me always. I can’t paint my nails myself you know.
Who else is going to wake me up in the morning the way you do? You know what I’m talking about, the way you rub your cute face in my hair whispering my name and stroking my neck- Damn it! Get back here!! Aren’t patients like doted on until they’re better?! Well my favourite person isn’t here to administer my medicine. So I’m not going to take it until you get back. Heat is a terrible nurse. So come look after me.
Just come back already.
I need you so damn much!
I feel even less whole without you nearby.
Later,
Kid.

A little bit lost
I had sudden VampireAU thoughts. One Pumpkin being the vampire because in canonverse Pumpkin has a bat DF. Selfship ahoy watch out.
Tumblr media
Eustass Kid had no idea how he ended up in this deep forest. The townsfolk had been pretty unwelcoming of him and his group. Apparently they didn’t like adventurers in this neck of the woods. “Fuck.” Kid growled as he pushed a low hanging branch out his way only to jostle the tree too much which deposited all the rain acclimating on it’s bountiful leaves on his already soaking frame. Sure his temper wasn’t the best most days but these villagers where so damn rude, they were only passing through and he stormed off and now he was lost in this infernal forest.
The heavens had opened up not long after he left the village and even the tall trees couldn’t shelter him. Thunder rumbled overhead and the rain grew heavier. Kid took a deep breath and cursed loudly carrying on forward, amidst the growing darkness and heavy rain he could barely see his hand in front of his face. Marching ever forward. Kid’s boot got caught on an upturned root, sending him stumbling forward and out of the forest falling to his knees before a huge elaborate iron fence which sounded a lone manor house.
Pushing himself up and pulling the gate open, it squeaked dreadfully as it opened. “What is it with rich folks not oiling shit.” he grumbled, heading towards the house. ‘This is the sort of place they’ll have me arrested for trespassing.’ Lighting illuminated the skies and the rain grew louder. “Not much choice.” he huffed, knocking once loudly and reached for the handle which clicked softly ‘It’s open?’
The house was welcomingly warm and dimly lit. The sound of the rain felt like it was far behind him now. Kid shivered, he suddenly realised how cold he was.
“You seem to be a little bit lost traveller.'' The sudden voice made him jump as lighting flashed outside, casting a brief brightness in the lobby. A small figure stood on the staircase to his left, holding an oil lantern. As they grew closer, he got a better look at her. The dress she wore had huge puffed shoulders, the sleeves and collar were black and the majority of it was white with black roses embroidered in it.
Her hair was a bright orange like the flame of the lantern in her hand. “You look cold. Come warm yourself by the fire and I shall fetch you some dry clothes and something to eat.” she smiled, gesturing for him to follow. Kid was speechless, he hadn’t heard her come down the stairs and in such a gown he would have surely heard the rustle of the fabric. “Are you alright?” she asked when he didn’t move from the doorway. Nodding slowly he followed, he couldn’t find his words which was very unlike him.
The living area was lavishly decorated and the log fire was casting soft warm glows and a welcoming heat. “You’re quite a way from the town.” she stated, offering Kid the fancy chesterfield by the fire.
“A bit lost.” he mumbled, quickly removing his sopping wet shirt, letting it land with a slorp by his feet. Shit.. he had forgotten his company and cast his eyes to the side. Her face was glowing, is that just the fire… her eyes darted around nervously. Kid found his confidence again, leaning on the mantle of the fireplace and flashed her a playful smirk “what’s wrong princess?” she jolted and her eyes washed over his bare chest shyly.
“I..I will.. You must be cold! Let me get you that change of clothes.” she whirled around quickly and hurried out of the room. Kid pouted and kicked his boots off, they were heavily caked in mud and he was suddenly aware of the mess he had dragged in with him. Whoever owned this place would have his head in the morning. When his host reappeared with clothes and a towel for him he managed to breach the topic “You ain’t going to turn me in in the morning?” he wiped the linger wet from his skin with the weirdly soft towel. He wasn’t used to such luxuries.
“Turn you in?” she asked with a tilt of her head “to who? For what?”
“Your parents? I mean...letting a stray in your home-” she laughed at him,
“I live here alone.” she smiled warmly, “There is some soup warming. You must be hungry.” Kid’s stomach replied loudly which spurred another laugh from her “I shall take that as a yes. You can stay the night, there is plenty of space and it’s been some time since I’ve had a guest, especially such a handsome one.” she added and once again left him alone in the room. Kid suddenly felt very warm. As he changed into the nice clean and dry clothes, finally sitting in the arm chair, he couldn’t help but think about his situation. The main question he kept thinking
Why does she live in this huge mansion alone? She didn’t mention servants or anything...and for one person to look after such a big place.. “Whose clothes am I wearing?” he thought out loud. His thoughts were ushered away when she came back with a little trolley ladened with food. “Eat and rest. I can show the way back to the village when the storm clears.” she added, sitting in the chair opposite him cradling a mug in her hands.
“You ain’t eating?” he asked, taking the bowl from the trolley.
“I already ate.” she replied, Kid watched her gracefully sip her tea and she made very little noise. Kid started to wonder if she was really here and this was all a sick dream made by his head. “I’ll answer your questions after you’ve eaten.” she stated, as if she could read his thoughts.
Kid ate his food loudly, slurping, vocalising his enjoyment in loud ‘Mmm’
Occasionally he glanced up, she said quietly in her chair with her tea cup the fire casting an eerie glow on her, it made her look very pale. Strange as she was, he didn’t feel like he was in any danger. Once his belly was full and content, his eyes betrayed him growing heavy.
“You must be tired. Come.” she held out a hand for him to take and he complied like an unseen force was guiding him. She’s cold..
She led him up the stairs and down a long corridor before pushing open a door. Entering first she lit the lamps for him.
Kid’s jaw dropped, the room was not fit for a rough and tumble adventurer like him “you’re letting me stay in here? Ain’t scared i’m going to break or steal something?” he asked, still bewildered. Was she that naive or just very trusting?
“What kind of host would I be if I can’t offer my guests somewhere comfortable to sleep?” she smiled, turning down the huge four poster bed for him “Sleep well.” she said, returning to the door “Goodnight, Kid.” he saw a flash of something else in her green eyes as she walked past him. Kid scratched his head and sat down on the bed only to be almost engulfed by the extremely soft mattress.
“People sleep like this?” Kid gawped and clambered into the bed, resting a hand behind his head he stared up at the ceiling. “Wait..did I tell her my name?”

As a terrible British people that indeed complains about the weather. It's been on fire for a while now..British summer has arrived it seems. Rain and wind..which means blankets! this is inspired by these weather changes.
Summer Cuddles
selfship ahoy! MetalPumpkin
Kid didn’t mind the sun, he was from a warm place but Hana did not. She was not a summer person, she preferred the cooler weather of Autumn and the many flavour it brought. Though the past few weeks, Kid was starting to hate the summer. It wasn’t just hot, it was humid and muggy and the cool air was nonexistent and worst of all, because of the heat, Hana didn’t want to snuggle with him. She settled for holding his hand on a night but hugs: heck no. They were both so warm and sweaty.
Kid woke up and his ears perked up at the sound of pitter patter against his window. Moving to kick the covers off his feet, which only served to wrap around his foot like a vine and sent him careening to the floor in a loud and painful heep. Wiggling free Kid marched over to his window and threw back the curtain. Grey skies, torrential rain and wind. Kid couldn’t be happier. “Fuck yes!” He cheered loudly. Turning back to his back, he stared at the mess of covers for what seemed like an eternity. “AH!” running over to his wardrobe, his footsteps thundering across the cold wooden floor. He pulled a soft plush orange blanket from the back, “she’ll want this...I should wash it?” he hummed, then nodded “I should wash it.” Blanket tucked under his arm, Kid headed down to the laundry room placing the blanket in the washing machine, filling the machine with the nice smelling degenent Hana had brought for them.
Kid sat impatiently and watched the blanket whoosh around in the machine.
“Kid...it’s six in the morning, what are you doing?” Killer asked, leaning against the door frame with his arms folded.
“Washing her blanket. It’s cold...she’ll want it.” Kid huffed back, ignoring the smug and teasing look that was probably plastered on his face.
“That’s great and all but-” Killer covered his face as he stifled a laugh “but could you maybe put some pants on? Nobody wants to see your pasty arse this early in the morning.” Killer snorted. Kid looked down, he was indeed butt naked.
“Fuck off.” he hissed, “I’m going back to bed.” Kid snapped and stormed back off to his room.
-
Kid hated waiting for stuff. It felt like he was checking the washer every 5 minutes. Eventually it was finished and time for the tumble drying. Killer made a quip about him being domesticated followed by ‘what next? Cooking? You better stay out of my kitchen!’
Kid was terrible at making his bed, no matter how carefully he smoothed it out, it just looked like he had rolled on it. “That’ll do..” he groaned as he covered the sheets with the fluffy blanket that was clean and finally dry. And just on time, Killer shouted up to tell him his pumpkin was finally here. Kid perked up like an excitable puppy and stumbled over his own feet just as Hana reached to open his bedroom door. He leant against the doorframe and tried to act casual “hey..”
Hana smiled at him and hugged him, “I missed you.” Kid moved out of the way and waited for her to notice the surprise he had prepared. He heard her gasp, her bag was dropped where she stood and the patter of feet running towards the bed post haste. She jumped and face planted the bed with a giggle, her legs flailing happily as she then rolled herself up like a burrito, sitting up to look at him barely visible from under the blanket. “You washed it too!”
Kid puffed up proudly like a peacock.
“Thought you might be cold..” he said, heading over to the bed too.
“I was. The weather turned so quickly. It’s a nice change but..too cold..” she sighed, opening her cocoon “I think some hugs would warm me up.” she said coyly. Kid wasted no time in joining her in the blanket, pulling her flush with him, burying his face into her neck. He sighed in relief, he’d missed this kind of contact. “I wonder who needed the hugs more..me or you?” she teased, her body quivering in laughter.
“You...definitely you..” he mumbled into her shoulder.
“Of course…” she chuckled, she gasped as Kid put his full weight against her sending her backwards onto the bed. Kid could barely keep his eyes open, why was he suddenly so tired? A soothing touch on his hair, lulled him closer into slumber.
“Rest my sweet tulip.” Kid yawned, squeezed her tightly and fell asleep comfortable and warm.
Summer could kiss his arse..he’ll accept colder weather if it means she’ll never stop holding him.

Tender touches
More..metalpumpkin...because Soft Kid is adorable and I love it...
Much fluff
Tumblr media
It had been almost a month since Kid had started officially dating Hana and it was a learning curve for Kid. He wasn’t used to being in an actual relationship but that was apparently the same for Hana. She was always so gentle and soft with him, the way she looked at him so kindly and she made him feel so wanted and loved. But Kid was still struggling to convey what he felt in return. He had had one long time girlfriend in the past but before and after it was just one night stands.
Things were going by so slowly with Hana but it didn’t really bother him, he enjoyed her company more than anything.
Today would be a turning point in the relationship, she would be spending the night at his place. Kid had made sure to clean: or more like Killer insisted he clean.
Hana arrived at his house after work with an overnight bag, looking pretty nervous herself. She poked her head into the living room where the others were watching Wire play a game “Good evening,” she said brightly, getting a chorus of ‘hello’s’ in return.
“Don’t worry, Kid cleaned.” Killer announced making her blush more “I don’t think you want to see Kid’s horde of po-”
“Shut up!” Kid snapped, grabbing Hana by the shoulders and guiding her out of the room and up to his own. “I-ignore them.” he grumbled, which just spurred her cute laughter in response. Kid felt his ears burn as he tried not to grin wildly. Opening the door to his room, he held it open to let her in, closing the door behind them. They stood in awkward silence for a moment. Kid coughed, “y-you can put your stuff wherever..”
Why am I making this weird?!
He watched Hana set her bag down and instantly honed in on his film collection “oh..I love this film!” she stated pointing at Akira. “You’d look so cool with that jacket.” she smiled turning her attention back to the films.
“-D-did you want to use the shower or something...I mean you were at work…” Kid mumbled “I don’t- It’s clean!” he half shouted. Hana chuckled again and nodded. Rummaging through her bag she gathered a change of clothes and followed Kid to the bathroom, where he showed her how to work the shower. “Be careful with the temperature..it’s kinda broken but it works.” he explained, “you can use my towel...it’s the red one.. So er .yeah..” he excused himself and headed down stairs to make drinks
I need to calm down...we’re not doing anything..just sharing a bed...
He watched the kettle boil and made a tea for Hana in her pumpkin cup: that he had bought specifically for her use and a coffee for himself. Grabbing the cups he headed back upstairs, his bedroom door ajar.
“no..ahh..I’m so stupid..” he heard her self-scolding. Pushing open the door he saw her on the floor frantically rummaging through her bag. “Kid!” she jumped as he kicked the door shut.
“You okay?” he asked, raising his absent eyebrow.
“yes..I just..forgot my cardigan..” she explained, rubbing her arms anxiously. He realised he never saw her without long sleeves. Setting the cups down on his desk, he pulled open drawer after drawer
“Shit. It’s here somewhere!” he ranted, “here it is!” Kid announced pulling a chunky black and red jumper from a tightly stuffed drawer and launched it across the room before he released what he’d done. Turning sharply when he heard a light ‘oof’ he saw Hana with the jumper hanging over her head. “Sorry..didn’t mean to throw it at you.” he said rubbing the back of his head “you can wear that...if you want..”
“Thank you.” Hana giggled from under the jumper before pulling it on promptly, her orange hair popping through the neck hole. It was far too big but she looked content and cute in it. Closing her eyes as she raised her non-visible hands up to her nose,
Shit..did I wash it…
She smiled softly “It smells like you.”
“..is that bad..”
“Of course not. It’s like a hug.” she added, snuggling into the jumper. Kid blushed, he hadn’t taken into account, one: how cute she looked in his oversized jumper and two: coupled with the cute things she said. His heart was beating quickly. They spent the evening talking and watched Akira sitting closely to one-another.
When time to sleep came around, Kid panicked, he was so used to sleeping naked, what if he stripped when he was asleep. He changed quickly into shorts and a vest, setting his prosthetic arm on the bedside table. God. I hope I don’t freak her out..
She was already nestled under the covers, the jumper laid on top of her ready for the morning. Kid chuckled, she couldn’t get any cuter. Her eyes just peeking over the top of the covers playfully. Kid climbed into his bed and shuffled to get comfortable. What did he say? Goodnight? Sleep well?
“Thank you for having me over..” she said, resting her back against his ever so slightly.
“Sure…” he mumbled, pressing his back in retaliation hearing her body laugh quietly. “Night..”
“Goodnight Kid..”
Kid closed his eyes and fell asleep quicker than normal. Before he knew it, it was morning. He felt Hana stir behind him, the covers shifting with her as she sat up and instantly pulled the jumped over her head. Kid rolled to watch her rub the sleep from her eyes and yawn. “Mmmorning.. You look cute.” he purred, resting his good hand behind his head as he watched her slowly wake up.
“Morning Kid.” she stammered, trying to hide in the jumper.
“Come here..” Kid smiled moving his hand to touch her face pulling her down to kiss him sleepily.
God. waking up like this..is pretty good.
-
The next few times, Kid looked forward to her staying over. Made sure the jumper was out ready for her. And everytime she had to leave and he slept alone: he hated it. Not feeling a small form against his, made him feel empty and lonely.
“Goodnight Kid.” she said, stealing a kiss on his cheek before she snuggled back under the covers, their backs touching. Kid smiled as he drifted off to sleep.
Though when he woke up, he had rolled over and Hana was curled up against his chest still fast asleep. Kid tried to process the moment and grinned wildly before shuffling back into the covers and running a hand through her soft orange hair and dozing back off.
-
The next time was more embarrassing for Kid. He woke up to a gentle hand combing through his hair, he had snuggled right up to her resting his head on her chest, coiling his legs between hers. She chuckled and nuzzled his hair, assuming he was still fast asleep. A kiss was planted into his hair, before her fingers stroked the back of his neck which made his whole body shivered happily. “Mgh…”
“Good morning,” she whispered to him, he raised his head out of her chest, his ears tinged with red.
“Yeah..morning. Sorry..I must be heavy…”
Hana replied by cupping his face and peppering his face with soft kisses “you’re so warm like a big old teddy bear.” she mused, “I was so toasty..”
Kid grumbled and pulled her closer again.
This..why am I doing this..but..I like it..
“I should get up-”
Hana moved to sit up but Kid rolled on top of her quickly, pinning her to the bed. She squeaked from the sudden attack. Burying his face into her neck and sliding his good hand around her waist.
Don't..go…
“Don’t..go..it’s early..stay with me longer…” he pleaded into her skin. He felt her arms slide over his shoulders, one hand lacing through his crimson hair.
“I can’t say no to that but-” Hana chuckled in between her sentence “Kid..you are crushing me..” Kid felt like his face was burning like a thousand suns. Mumbling a panicked ‘sorry’ He quickly laid beside her snuggling right back in as if he would die without knowing more of her soft embraces.
I want to wake up like this forever…
“I do have to get up soon though-” Hana reminded scratching his scalp lightly, making Kid almost purr.
“No. Stay..” he whined squeezing her tightly, “just a bit longer..” he whispered, closing his eyes and savoured the gentle lovingly touches she was bestowing upon him.
How the hell did I deserve this? When did I deserve to be this loved..

The Calling...for spooky games
Inspired by the amazing selfship drawing @erupan did for me. Eru you lovely human bean.
I also love the idea that Kid is terrible with anything horror.
Tumblr media
“I’m here!” Hana called, closing the door to the large group house of Kid and his friends. Taking her boots off in the hall, she poked her head into the living room where Kid was wrestling with a bundle of wires. Today was their weekly date evening. Kid had mentioned something about games and she remembered seeing a wii last time she was here and had brought a few games of her own “Do you need a hand?” she asked,
“”How did this even happen?!” he huffed, dropping the bundle of wires to the floor. Hana chuckled and leant down to plant a kiss into his hair,
“Maybe because you threw all your wires into a box again..” she hummed, kneeling beside him to untangle the mass of wires. “What were you trying to plug in anyway?”
“Borrowing Wire’s console..I got us a game to play..” he said, reaching for the case on the table. “Looks cool right? Zombies and shit.” he grinned excitedly, holding up the resident evil case.
I’m so bad at zombie games..they are fun though.
Hana nodded and plugged the console in “there we go, all set.” She smiled. “I brought some games too and snacks..I baked those gingerbreads you liked-” Kid’s eyes lit up and he pulled Hana onto his lap to hug tightly, “Kiiidd.” she laughed as he nuzzled her neck playfully.
“I’ll make coffee.” Kid lifted her onto the cough effortlessly “Oh..Killer baked too..” he added quietly, watching her out of his peripheral vision and seeing her smile excitedly. Once they were sitting comfortably on the sofa with drinks and home baked snacks in abundance, they loaded up the game.
“I’ve only played the old ones..” Hana admitted beside him handing him the controller, “your house, you get player one first and we switch when you die..that's the rule.” she stated seriously, Kid shook his head in amusement she has such cute quirks. Once he started played heavily focused on the game
this is fine.  He cheered himself on internally but his whole body jolted when a pair of arms slid around his bicep. Glancing down at his little orange haired pumpkin clinging to him, her eyes focused on the screen in front of them, his heart swelled like his ego.
I..make her feel safe? Of course I do!
Though that didn’t last long..Kid’s blood ran cold and his heart was running a marathon in his chest, he jumped and fumbled the controller when a horde of zombies ran at him.
Load from last save point?
Kid didn’t even look at her when he relinquished the controller. She laughed “I doubt I’ll do much better.” she added. Kid threw his arm protectively over her small shoulders and offered a cheeky grin.
“Don’t worry, I got ya.” he winked, making her blush. She’s doing better already… when the game started to get intense Kid jolted and grimaced and ended up resting his head on hers hiding the game behind her soft orange hair.
“Kid are you- ARGH! NO!” Hana’s sudden yelling caught him off guard as she pulled the control closer to her to try and fight off the horde better “I died…” she sighed, hanging her head in shame. “Want to try another game?” she offered, recoiling quickly. Kid nodded and tousled her hair.
“You did good.” he nodded proudly “what else did you bring?” Hana moved from his arm and rummaged into her tote bag and produced two games for the wii. Kid felt his eye twitch when he looked at the covers.
Ju-on fright simulator….The calling….
“They’re horror games!” she explained excitedly, plopping down beside him turning them over to look at the back “This one uses the wii remote as a phone! And you get calls from the ghosts and then they come and find you and you have to run away! Oh and the ju-on is the grudge film. It’s so scary!” she rambled holding them up to him with a bright smile. “Which one would you like to play first?” she asked. Kid reluctantly glanced between the two games and pointed at the ju-on.
Fright simulator...simulators are stupid right? And I don’t remember the film being..great..
Hana put the game in grabbing the controllers and ran towards the door switching the lights off.
“What are you doing?!” he asked, his voice holding a minor crack to it.
“Oh. These are so much more fun in the dark. It’s atmospheric.” she explained, not switching the light on and carefully making her way back to him.
Is she a masochist?! Oh shit..
“You go first..it’s your game.” Kid stated, not wanting to even humor this game. Hana nodded and started the game, it took to the first jump scary for Kid to lift Hana onto his lap wrapping his arms around her waist. This was the most apt spot for cuddlings and hiding the stupid game with her hair.
“You won’t be able to play like that…” she chuckled.
I have no intention of playing this...what maniac willing plays this? He glanced down at the pumpkin in his arms grimacing, her hands trembling slightly as she moved the camera around the abandoned factory. My maniac apparently.  He smirked but almost jolted out of his skin as there was a loud thud followed by an unnerving groaning and Hana yelped and flailed the wii remote around willing the player to run faster.
“Nooooo!!!!” Hana soon sighed with relief as she had outrun the terror in the lift. “Safe-” The living room door slammed open and they both yelled in fright. Kid’s arms tensed around her, pulling her closer into his chest.
“What are you two doing?” the light flicked on revealing Killer, Heat and Wire staring at them with a smirk on their faces. Hana started laughing nervously,
“Playing the Ju-on game! Sorry Wire I forgot to ask if I could use the wii.”
Wire nodded, “I’ve wanted to play that mind if we join?”
Kid huffed nonchalantly “Gladly..” he mumbled. As long as he didn’t have to play this ridiculous game. Kid caught Killer’s eyes who looked at him smuggly, Kid looked away suddenly.
“How did you get Kid to play this?” Killer asked, taking his spot in his usual arm chair “Kid’ so bad at horror anything.” he teased.
“But..Kid was the one who suggested spooky games. They’re my speciality...well kind of..I’m really bad at them but they’re so fun!” she rambled nervously, handing the controls to Wire who sat down on the floor to carry on the game.
“We have to play this next.” Wire stated seriously, holding up The Calling “this game is so expensive. I have to play it!”
“Of course!!” Hana exclaimed excitedly, punching the air.
Kid sighed deeply and kept his grip on Hana, resting his chin on her head reluctantly watching the screen.
So much for date night….this is okay too though…best write off sleep though..

Horror house
A little bit of late night spooks!!! The house inspired by the Crimson Peak house and also a little inspired by a reoccuring nightmare I had when I was younger. I love horror but I do need to stop writing it before bed
Tumblr media
Under cut. It’s long about 2k. Also spooks. so..beware.
The rain fell unrelenting, the ashen gray skies covering the bright sun that had been visible not even twenty minutes past. The sound of boots against slowly forming mud and the crunch of undergrowth sang in harmony with the raindrops pattering against the abundance of leaves surrounding the group marching their way through the forest.
The Kid pirates were heading towards a nearby town though it seems much further than when they spied it from the crows nest of the Victoria Punk. Unless they had taken a wrong turn somewhere. Kid marched ever forward insisting they were indeed going the right way. Hana clutched her umbrella and tried to keep up with the crew, who had undoubtedly longer legs than her and in the growing mud she was slipping every few steps. Heat had stopped noticing her lagging behind. Taking the umbrella from her and aided her to stop her sliding around.
“Thank you.'' They carried on their way for a few more moments when the rain became so much heavier, spurring the group on into a panicked run until they moved from forest to open garden and a poorly looked after stone path. The house that loomed before them was a grand manor house. Hana was in awe. The house was old, its large windows dusty and hidden by the out of control vines that engulfed the walls of the building but still it radiated its once former glory. Killer ran ahead and opened the door quickly lettin them all follow and seek shelter from the rain.
“Wow!” setting her umbrella by the door and wiping her feet on the old and dusty doormat before venturing further into the grand lobby. “Look how big it is!” The lobby leads into an open living room, a huge stone fireplace in direct view of the doors. To their left was a wide mahogany staircase that hugged the walls as it snaked around and up the walls to the second floor. Old oil lamps were hanging on the walls amidst a horde of dusty paintings. Despite the outside looking old, the inside was surprisingly intact if just a bit dusty and home to a lot of spiders if the cobwebs were any indication.
“I’m going to go explore!” Hana announced excitedly, already halfway up the stairs before Kid could even complain.
“I’m sleeping outside.” Kid stated firmly, turning on his heels setting a hand on the door handle as a crack of thunder echoed outside.
“Kid. It’s one night. Come on, Heat’s already lit the fire.” Killer said with a mocking pat on his old friend’s back. Kid grumbled in response as he turned back to head towards the now warmly lit living room.
“KID!” Hana’s sudden shout made Kid jump in alarm, he looked up at the orange haired women leaning excitedly over the banister “you have to see this bedroom! It’s beautiful!! Can we sleep up here?”
“NO! Everyone is sleeping down here.” he said sternly, earning a whine in protest “come down here.” he ordered.
“Aw come on!” she whined, slowly and dejectedly making her way down the stairs “it’s such a lovely manor house.” Hana said in awe, finally joining the crew in the huge living area “look at this furniture!” she ran her hand along the arm of a huge tall backed chair “it’s like a throne.” she sat in it promptly causing a huge plume of dust to rise from it, the dust filled her nose and eyes quickly, making her sneeze and cough loudly. A strong arm yanked her out of the chair and pulled her down onto the floor. “Kid- I can’t see..” her eyes streamed trying to expel the dust and as she instinctively moved to rub her eyes, Kid’s firm grasp pulled them away.
“Don’t rub them. Stop touching stuff!” he scolded, holding her firmly. Another heavily calloused hand held her face still but she tried to jerk away in alarm  “It’s just Killer sit still damn it.” Killer carefully opened her eyes to try and flush the dust out with water. Hana squirmed as the water ran into her eyes. Shaking her face of water after and finally rubbing her eyes. She blinked and tried to focus. “better?”
She looked around testing out her vision, scanning the room she spotted a dark figure standing back in the hallway. Is that one of the crew? But she blinked again and it had vanished. “Yes I think. Sorry. I just..I didn’t mean to cause any trouble.” she apologised, Kid huffed and pulled her backwards into his lap, his good arm coiled around her stomach
“Stop touching shit. We leave in the morning, regardless of the weather.” he ordered sharply. Killer handed Hana one of the travel mugs with some coffee in it.
“Kid is easily spooked.” Killer explained with a mocking tone.
“Shove it Killer.” Kid hissed in response.
“Oh! Let's tell spooky ghost stories!” Hana announced excitedly “This is the perfect setting for them.” Kid’s hand cupped her chin tilted her back to look up at him.
“Did you not listen to anything?” he growled but was met with her soft smile
“But ghost stories are fun! There’s no such thing as ghosts anyway.” she laughed loudly.
Kid allowed them to tell some spooky stories though he pretended not to care even though he was taking it all in and not enjoying any of it. She’s pretty good at storytelling though. After a few hours of scary stories the group finally began to retire.
Hana slept comfortably in Kid’s arms curled up in his super fluffy coat. Warm and safe.
A crack of thunder jolted her away. Blinking to try and help her eyes adjust quicker to the encroaching darkness, the fire only dim embers now. Shivering from a sudden draft, in the distance she could hear the front door banging against the wall. Reluctantly crawling from Kid’s embrace, grabbing a candle that had blown out in the wind and re-lighting it with the embers of the fire and stepping over the crew carefully. Peering out into the hall, the front door was indeed wide open letting in a bitter cold draft. They’ll catch a cold if  I leave it open. Hurrying out of the lingering warmth of the living room, Hana crossed the eerily dark and cold hallway quickly pulling the door too. As she looked out into the courtyard amidst the driving rain she caught the sight of a figure in an old fashioned nightgown. She opened her mouth to call out to the person but they vanished. Hana poked her head outside the door and looked around. There was definitely nobody there. It’s just the darkness playing tricks on me. Finally closing the door making sure it had clicked properly “maybe Killer broke it earlier?” she hummed turning away from the door as a figure appeared at the frosted glass pane.
A loud thud from up stairs made her jump almost dropping the candle holder in alarm.
“Old house..makes creepy noises..” Hana nodded, convincing herself that there was nothing in the darkness. “Or maybe mice? Yeah mice..scampering around…” her words trailed off as another thud came from upstairs “big mice..” she walked past the staircase and then walked back to the staircase and then away again. “I won’t sleep until I investigate,” she grumbled, beginning her ascent of the stairs, moving carefully to not blow the candle out with any sudden movements.
“I’ll just quickly check the rooms and be done with it.” Hana took a deep breath as she stood at the mouth of the long corridor, the darkness making it seem almost endless. ‘I’m a pirate now..can’t be scared of the dark..or not being able to see in the dark..’ cautiously Hana walked down the corridor making sure each door was shut and all was well until she reached the master bedroom she had spied early and the door was ajar. I closed it. I definitely closed it. Taking a deep breath and reaching for the handle she pushed the door open quickly. Slowly pushing a door open would only spur potential ghosts to give her a scare: she had read enough horror stories to know that was a bad idea and she kept a firm grip on the door handle so the door wouldn’t slam shut behind her. I got this. Holding the candle aloft, she scanned the room. Nothing. Maybe I didn’t close the door. As she lowered the candle, Hana became aware of something peering out from behind the door. Don’t look at it..it’s not there..can’t see it… taking a step backwards, the little flame was blown out and in alarm Hana jumped away from the door letting whatever lurked behind it to slam the door shut.
Staggering backwards, Hana fell over what felt like a footstool and dropped the candle holder with a loud clatter as it rolled away from her on the wooden floor. Kicking the footstool towards the shadowy figure, Hana shuffled backwards in panic. “I can’t see it..it’s not here…” she chanted backing herself into a corner. The sound of quiet footsteps slowly became loud booming footsteps like a deep drum beat. “I can’t hear or see anything...nothing is there..” she mumbled, turning her back on the darkness covering her ears with her hands and closing her eyes tightly. Her chest felt so tight, it was getting difficult to breathe and she couldn’t stop shaking. “Don’t look at it..it’s not there..can’t see it…” she choked out, tears streaming down her face revealing her real emotions. She was scared. She tried to focus on what made her feel calm..that fiery red hair, hot temper, cocky grin, natural warmth. “Kid..” she sobbed quietly. “Kid.” again louder. The footsteps grew closer to her ever so slowly. “KID!” she screamed as loudly as she could muster.”KID!!” she screamed, though it was muffled through her continued and controllable sobbing.
-
Kid was kicked awaked by Killer. “What-” he noticed the fire had been relit and a certain someone was missing from his arms. Everyone else was awake too.
“I think she’s upstairs..there was-” Killer’s words were cut short when a strangled scream for Kid echoed from upstairs. Kid was on his feet in seconds he stumbled into the door frame clumsy as he raced towards the staircase. “I told her to stay put.” he grumbled to himself as he heard another cry for him. Kicking open each door scanning the room quickly. As he kicked open one of the doors the sound of metal rolling across the floor reached his ears scanning the darkness, he spotted Hana huddled in a corner sobbing.
“it’s not there..can’t see it. Not there..” she chanted over and over through her sobs. Kneeling beside her, he set a hand on her head which just made her curl in on herself more. “Not there...Can’t…”
Kid draped his coat over her shoulder and felt her tense in realization though as she turned her eyes were firmly clamped shut, gingerly she reached to touch him but he guided her hand to his metal arm, that was a sure give away who it was. Swallowing deeply, she opened her eyes, her lips still quivering. “Kid..” once she had ascertained he was in fact there, Hana threw her arms around his neck and sobbed loudly. “Kid. I’m sorry. I heard a noise and then there was something in here and and-”
“Don’t be leaving my side.” he scolded, scooping her up with his metal arm “back downstairs.” he ordered everyone. The group headed back downstairs to the warmth of the living room. Hana was still visibly shaken by whatever happened. Kid made sure to pull her as close as possible trying to ease her nerves. “What happened to ghosts not being real?” he teased, trying to coax a smile out of her.
“Kid..I don’t…I don’t..” but it just made her cry again.
“What happened?” he asked seriously planting a kiss into her bright orange hair. She sniffled loudly and regalled what happened. “No more scary shit before bed.” he warned, not wanting to be privy to anymore scares himself. She nodded and shuffled in close, he felt her let out a sigh of relief.
“You make me feel safe.” she admitted, looking up at him from the confines of his coat.
“I plan on keeping you safe..” he replied quietly.
The night went by without any further incidents. Morning came swiftly and Kid could not be more eager to get the hell out of that creepy dusty old house. Thankfully the rain had stopped and the sun shone brightly. Hana sighed deeply as she left the manor, as she crossed the courtyard she felt something behind her. Turning to take one last look at the manor, one side of the front door was open even though Killer had closed it. She could see directly into the living room where the fire was lit and a chair had been moved in front of it. She felt a chill run down her spine as long thin fingers appeared around the door. Unable to move from fear as she saw a head starting to appear from behind the door. Willing herself to move, she turned and bolted to catch up with Kid finding his arm to cling too.
“Oi. What’s wrong?” he asked, her sudden touch had startled him “you okay?” she nodded quickly and curiously peered back to see the front door was firmly closed. Kid put his arm over her shoulder. “Come on let's go.”
Thankful to put the horror house firmly behind her, she sighed with relief. Maybe she needed a break from horror stories for a while..
Though some things aren’t so keen to be left behind and can leave a little bit to follow you forever.

Pumpkin and a Punk
Shameful selfship! This time MetalPumpkin. Had a little too  much fun writing this.. so..yeah...Modern AU. Kid had a motorbike. Soft angry Tulip >3<
almost 4k words later. NEEDED TO BE FLUFFIER

A long day of travelling. One cancelled train after another, Hana sighed deeply as she crossed the dimly lit carpark of the convenience store. Her eyes fell upon a group of Harley's sat near the door. So cool.. She thought. Entering the much brighter store hurt her eyes, Snacks..I suppose I already bought a lot but nevermind.. Grabbing a basket she wandered around the store quietly trying to ignore the group near the fridges arguing about what alcohol they should buy. Once she had procured more snacks and something savoury, Hana headed to the till trying to ignore the fact the guy on the register was staring at her with a weird look on his face.
Maybe I should have taken the bonnet off…
Going to the store at night in an orange lolita dress was probably not her best choice but she had just gotten back into town..
Packing her things quickly, she escaped the store and was ready for home, until her eyes fell to the harley again. Her feet slowed to a halt as she stood in front of the bike that seemed to have a cool skeletal design on the body, not that she could appreciate it properly in this dim light.
“OI! What are you doing?!” a voice shouted at her, making her jump and clutch her bag close. As she whirled around stepping away from the bike as a tall man with crimson hair strode towards her with a deep scowl on his face.
“Sorry! I was just admiring your harley! I’m sorry!” she said quickly. Well done you idiot..
He looked her up and done and hummed “you’re an odd one.”
Well that’s not the worst thing someone said to me…
He slung his leg over the bike, Hana noticed the ripped jeans grip his thighs tightly as he leant forward fumbling with the keys. Striking the bike to life, letting it growl loudly. Hana’s eyes lit up. Something about the low thunder of these types of motorbikes just made her happy. “It sounds so cool!” she exclaimed excitedly. The red haired man looked pleased with her response.
“Hm. Didn’t put you for a bike fan.” he hummed.
“I’ve always liked motorbikes. I can’t personally ride one but I still think they’re pretty awesome.” she rambled excitedly. The man leant against his handlebars with a grin on his face
“Why-” before he could say anything else a strong gust of wind swept across the parking lot, tugging at Hana’s bonnet
“Ah! No!” she grabbed hold of the bonnet before it could take off “that was close.” she wheezed, retiring the bonnet to her totebag just as rain began to fall. “I should go. Sorry to bother you.” Hana smiled, bowing quickly and hurrying off into the night before the rain could get worse.
-
Kid watched the orange haired woman run off. What a weird one.. He thought, he put the stand back down and noticed something orange by his boot. Climbing off his bike, to pick it up, turning it over in his fingers, it was an orange glittery bat shaped bow. One the orange clad princess had had in her hair.
“Kid you done trying to pick up girls in the parking lot again?” Killer teased, as they finally came to join him.
“Ah, shut up.” he hissed, pocketing the bow. Maybe I’ll see her around..can’t miss her in that getup.
-
At first Kid didn’t make too much of an effort to return the bow. But whenever he looked at it next to his goggles, he thought back to her smile. She was pretty cute. Picking the bow up, Kid headed into town, seeking out someone who could probably help him. Working his way through some of the small streets, he came to a shop you could smell a mile off with the incense floating out the door. Entering the shop, the bell chiming quietly over his head as the door slammed behind him.
“Oi, Hawkins! You here?” Kid called loudly, walking into the centre of the shop.
“I’m always here,” came a voice from behind Kid. Making Kid tense, Hawkins was a tall blonde man, just a little taller than Kid and he always wore the frilliest collared shirts, like he was in a vampire novel or new romantics band. Not that Kid could judge on fashion choices with his snake print trousers.
“Like a damn ghost-”
“And you’re loud enough to wake the dead.” Hawkins chided, heading back behind his counter “You came to have me find something,” he said flatly, looking down at some cards laid out on his counter “or someone..”
“Saves me the trouble of explaining.” Kid strugged, half slamming the bow down on the counter making the cards jump slightly off the surface, “whoever this belongs too.”
“I know who that belongs too without the use of cards,” Hawkins replied simply “but why should  I?”
“I just want to return it.”
“Hm,” Hawkins turned over a card and cracked a smile that sent a chill down Kid’s spine “Go to the fountain in the centre of the marketplace, you’ll find what you seek there.”
“-Thanks..I think..” Kid turned on his heels to leave when Hawkins coughed, making Kid groan “Fine. I’ll buy something. Just make it not expensive damn it! I’m not made of money!” he huffed, Hawkins carefully placed a rock that glimmered blues and amber on the counter “you want me to buy a rock?” Kid asked his face riddled with skepticism.
Hawkins closed his eyes slowly, ignoring Kid’s snark “It is a crystal. Labradorite it helps-”
“I don’t care what it does alright? I’ll buy it.” Kid grumbled loudly, fumbling for his tattered wallet. “Daylight robbery for a rock.” he sneered, pocketing the newly acquired rock and hurried on his way. Hawkins is so damn creepy. He thought as he strode quickly through the streets towards the marketplace. In the distance he spotted a familiar orange beacon. A different orange dress today, orange and black stripes and a shirt with frills Hawkins would be jealous for. She looked down to check her phone and her shoulders slumped forward in dismay. Man...Hawkins really is spooky… Kid slowed to a halt as he approached her and patted her on the shoulder making her jump back suddenly. “Shit..sorry..”
“Oh...it’s you..” she looked up at him. “Sorry. You startled me..” she laughed, looking around nervously, “Can I help you?” she asked. Kid thrust the bow out at her, trying to remain cool and aloof
“You dropped this.” he said sharply, dropping the bow into her hand that was covered in lace. Her eyes widened and she looked up at him with a bright smile that made his heart thud loudly against his ribcage What the fu- was that?
“Thank you so much!” she wasted no time in clipping the bow at the edge of the orange berat she was wearing “this is my favourite bow, I was so upset I lost it.”
“Yeah sure..” Now what? He cleared his throat, shoving his hands into his leather jacket’s pocket “so..are you waiting for someone?” he asked, trying not to sound horribly creepy.
“Oh..well..I was.” she chuckled, shuffling nervously “She forgot she had made plans with her boyfriend as well. so..she’s not here.” she said with a shrug “I was going home-”
“Drink!” he half shouted “..do ya want to get a drink or something?” Kid asked as politely as he could. She tensed and rubbed her arm nervously.
“I don’t drink.” she announced and her expression said she was awaiting a snide comment.
“Oh right. I know a place that does good shakes?” Kid offered instead and noticed her eyes lit up at the mention of milkshakes. “Want to join me?” she nodded “-Ya know.. I don’t know your name..”
“Hana. Nice to meet you..it’s Kid right?” she asked with a tilt of her head, he looked at her curiously “I mentioned your cool bike to a friend and they knew you..or know of you. They have a Harley too, you might have seen them around? Bright green quiff has a habit of wearing no shirt-”
“Not Barto?” Kid grimaced “you know him?” sure he knew the guy, they had been in a few fights together about stupid shit. How the hell did this small fairy like woman know that idiot?
“I do. We have mutual friends. He’s a nice guy, very fun.” she laughed “very excitable..”
“I don’t think we’re on about the same guy.” Kid said in disbelief, “anyway..let's go..” she nodded and walked beside him quietly. “Shame your friend ditched you..”
“Not the first time but it’s okay.” she said with a smile, “Brightside. I got my hair bow back.” Kid hummed and they walked in awkward silence to a little American styled dinner. “Oh, I’ve never been here. I have some friends that come here a lot.” she said, following Kid into the quiet dinner and over to a booth.
“Oh, Eustass, you’re early today,” a tall woman with a sharp bowl cut appeared behind the counter and flashed Kid a warm smile. “Oh and you’ve got a little cutie with you today.” Hana blushed and bowed quickly, her orange curls floating around her face.
“-hello..” Kid ushered her over to a booth near the jukebox before Shakky could say anything else embarrassing. He handed her the drinks menu “thank you..”
“God old people-” Hana stared at him skeptically over the menu. He caught himself studying her eyes, he couldn’t place the colour no matter how much he stared
Are they blue? Green? Why the hell do I even care?!
“..She’s not old..She doesn’t look a day over 30..”
“That’s sweet,” Hana jumped hiding behind the menu as Shakky appeared at the table. She leant in and whispered to her and Hana gasped
“I..don’t believe that at all!”
Shakky chuckled “now then what can I get you two?”
Kid slumped back in the seat, slinging his arms over the back of the chair “Chocolate shake.” he stated,
“Can I have a butterscotch milkshake please?” hana asked politely. Shakky nodded and headed back behind the counter. Kid watched her curiously “what?”
“I’m just wondering what the hell that was?”
“Oh..well. I’ve worked in a cafe before..polite customers are few and far between..so I always strive to be a good customer..” she rambled fiddling with her gloves “Sorry..that-”
“nah..I suppose I’m just a ruffian..” he flashed a playful grin at her, which drew a light red hue to her cheeks before she chuckled at him, okay now what...music! “You..wanna put something on the box?” he asked lazily, gesturing to the old fashioned jukebox behind him.
“Absolutely! Any requests?” she asked, sliding from her seat kid held out the coin for her, he shook his head
“Go wild.” he grinned. As she passed his side of the table, he caught sight of a pair of eyes watching from over the counter old man Rayleigh..that bastard- Rayleigh gave him a thumbs up and wink and vanished from view. Kid looked away quickly, he felt hot. Why?! It’s just a woman..
Hana rejoined him at the table just as her first song started playing, Kid listened for a few moments “You like The Cure?” he asked, realising he almost sounded disgusted but that wasn’t his intent at all. “I thought..it would be pop..” he added quickly, mumbling into his hand.
“Here you kids go.” Shakky said, setting the drinks down on the table.
“Thank you.” Hana replied brightly, looking at her milkshake excitedly “looks so yummy.”
This woman..
She slurped her milkshake happily “It’s so delicious!” she kept slurping until she grimaced suddenly “b-brainfreeze” and still she slurped. Kid smirked and watched her power through the brainfreeze to drink the beverage. Kid hummed when the song changed,
“A bundle of surprises..”
“Well my parents listened to a lot of  80’s music so I picked it up..but isn’t Billy Idol cool?” she asked, “you kind of reminded me of him.” Kid almost choked on his drink “Maybe it’s the leather jacket and the cool aura  you give off.” she explained, Kid nodded and cleared his throat.
Number..get her number..
“so..Could I-” he was stopped by the door of the diner opening and he saw Killer’s mass of blonde hair
“Oi Kid!” he waved, Hana tensed and drained the rest of her glass in record time.
“I should go. I don’t want to get in the way of your friends. Thank you again.” she smiled, sliding from her chair and disappearing behind Killer and his group. Hearing the bell chime again a few moments later.
“You bastards have the worst timing!” he shouted, slamming his hand on the table. The group looked at the empty glass and turned to the door where it had recently just closed.
“You were on a date?!” they all half yelled, huddling around him quickly trying to try and extort the information out of him.
“Oh Eustass,” Shakky called to him, leaning on the bar with a teasing smile “Don’t worry about paying, your little girlfriend paid for you.” that spurred on more teasing as Kid’s face went the same colour as his face. Shakky chuckled, shaking her head “I wonder how Eustass found such a nice girl.”
“Same way I found you.” Rayleigh added “fate.” he smiled, kissing her cheek softly “why you liked me back still amazes me.”
-
It was almost a week before Kid found Hana again. He was sat in his basement tuning his guitar, the rock Hawkins had made him purchase was sat on his desk and he could only focus on it. I can’t concentrate.
“Fuck-” he cursed loudly, setting his guitar down. Kid grabbed the rock pocketing it and went to grab his keys. A ride would make him feel better. His harley thundered loudly as he headed out into the cool autumn air. He found himself up the seafront when he noticed a familiar barnet of orange hair sat on a bench watching the waves ebb and flow. Pulling up next to the bench, and removing his helmet running a hand through his flattened crimson locks. He noticed a large uneaten donut in her hand “If you ain’t careful the seagulls will eat that.” he warned, with a  grin sitting beside her making her jump.hen he noticed her headphones and she quickly fumbled to pause the music.
“Kid..Sorry.. I wasn’t paying attention.” she laughed,
“Gulls will eat that if you’re not careful,” he repeated.
“Would you like a bite?” she asked, offering him the large and heavily decorated donut “It’s pumpkin spice. My favourite.” Kid leant and took a bite of it, nodding as he chewed it. Hana smiled, and took a bite.
does that..class as one of those shared kisses? Kid shook that sappy thought from his head.
“Bit too sweet..” he mumbled, “where’d you get a donut that big?” he question, licking his lips of the remnant frosting,
“My favourite donut place is up here. Whole Cake Donuts. I’m friends with Katakuri who runs it.”
Does she just befriend everyone?
“Massive..giant of a guy-” she nodded “he bakes?” she nodded eagerly,
“His whole family bakes. They all have different shops that specialise in their preferred dessert.” she explained, taking another bite out of the donut. She looked over her shoulder at the Harley behind them “Out for a ride?”
Kid shrugged resting his hands on the bench to lean backwards “Needed a break from music.” he looked from his precious bike to Hana and smirked playfully “Wanna go for a spin?” her eyes lit up but shook her head,
“I don’t have a helmet-” Kid swung his legs around the bench popping open the seat and grabbing a spare helmet and goggles he was compelled to bring with him. “Got ya covered pumpkin.” he laughed, making her blush. Finishing the giant donut quickly she threw the trash in the bin and made sure her hands were clean before accepting the helmet, placing her beret in her pumpkin shaped bag and pulled the helmet and goggles over her head. Kid chuckled at her bright smile and how the helmet didn’t really go with her outfit but she looked cute nonetheless. He noticed the poofy skirt how..I didn’t plan this.. “You can sit sideways?”
“Oh don’t worry,” she said, giving him a thumbs up before lifting the edge of her skirt. Kid almost stopped breathing. “I got bloomers on, we’re good.” she announced proudly “all modesty protected.”
Kid could feel his face burning, what was I expecting?! He snorted and tapped the helmet “don’t go flashing people.” he warned, climbing onto his bike, he barely felt any additional weight on the back of the motorbike until he felt a tug on his jacket. “Shit, do you weigh anything?”
“Aha..”
Kid shook his head “you can hold onto the back if you want.” he stated, kicking the stand and striking the bike into life. He heard Hana’s excited giggle behind him, which made him grin wildly. Why is this making me so fucking happy? This is stupid. “Hang on.” he shouted over the loud thundering engine. He could just hear her small voice over the noise and headed off and instantly felt a pair of arms wrap around his chest clasping at the front
“Sorry!”
Fuck..this woman is gonna kill me.
Kid never let anyone ride his bike..why was he even permitting her to ride it..but then..she had shown respect to his precious Victoria from the beginning and there was something about her that told him she was different. His heart was racing as he felt her head rest against his back. His grin just got wider with every passing second. He headed just out of the town and up to a viewing point that overlooked the beach and the seemingly endless ocean. “Here we are.” he announced switching the bike off. Only the sound of the ocean and the rustling trees could be heard. Hana dismounted carefully and pouted as she fumbled with the buckle of the helmet, pulling the goggles around her neck as she lifted the helmet off her head, freeing her now wild hair. Shaking her hair free “That was so cool!” she said spinning around letting her skirt flare around her. “So cool!” she announced again. Kid leant against his bike and watched her spin around. He chuckled and ran a hand through his hair. Letting it linger there a moment until he felt a pair of eyes upon him.
“-what…” he asked, noticing her staring in his direction.
“You’re really nice,” she stated, her smile could have blinded him. He looked away sharply,
“Don’t tell people that. I have a rep to keep up.” he huffed, trying to hide the blush creeping up his neck. His heart jumped into his throat when he blinked and found Hana standing closer to him holding up her pinky.
“Pinky promise.” she grinned,
Kid laughed loudly “bit old for that aren't ya?” he teased but went to comply anyway, looping his little finger with hers.
“I won’t tell..also..how big are your hands?!” she gasped, what? Kid stared at both of his hands and frowned. They're not that big are they? “Look-” she held up her hand gestured Kid to do the same, she placed her hand against his. Indeed his hands were bigger but wasn’t she just small? Before he could say anything, Hana slipped her delicate fingers between his and held his hand gently. Kid’s brain shut down. She..what… his heart was banging against his chest like Killer’s shitty drums and he felt on fire, he was certain steam was coming off his face. What is this woman?! Kid was trying to face his internal dilemma, when he noticed a glimmer of concern in her ocean like eyes. He squeezed her hand tightly, bringing a rivalling blush to her cheeks. “You’re so warm!” she said in awe bringing his hand closer to her face to nuzzle it. Something inside Kid snapped, he grabbed her arm and pulled her into his chest wrapping his arms around her tightly, resting his chest into her shoulder.
“The hell are you doing to me?” he asked, his usual tone sounded a little softer, almost scared. Hana chuckled against him and returned the embrace. “You appeared out of nowhere and left me wanting more.”
“Aha..sorry..” she looked up at him “does it help...I feel the same? I er...I like you.” Hana replied nervously, failing to keep eye contact with him as she confessed to him. Kid blinked and grinned, he dipped to close the gap between them capturing her lips in a swift kiss not relinquishing his strong embrace.
“This time..give me your damn number..” he half demanded with a pout tugging on his lips, she looked dazed for a moment and with both of their lipstick smudged on one another, they both succumbed to laughter. First woman to laugh after kissing me… Rummaging into her bag, she pulled out her phone. Kid reached into his pocket and then another pocket before groaning loudly. “I forgot my fucking phone!” he yelled loudly, which just made her laugh more. She took hold of his hand again lacing their fingers together slowly.
“Don’t worry. We’ll meet up again, on maybe an actual date?” she asked with a coy smile, Kid smirked dipping to steal another kiss.
“I ain’t letting you go again…” he mumbled against her lips. “Come on..I’ll take you home…” Kid said, pulling away his stomach was doing summersaults  what is wrong with me?! As he pulled his keys out of the pocket on his jacket, the crystal fell out of his pocket rolling near her little platform shoes. “Oh..that’s just some rock-” she picked it up and inspected it curiously before delving into the pocket on her dress pulling out a rock in the same colours.
“You have one too?” she asked, handing him the rock back.
“Not by choice..Hawkins made me buy it..” he huffed, now he felt like a complete fool. “I’m going to tear Goldilocks hair out..” he growled under his breath.
“Hawkins gave me one too. I only went to buy a new candle and he said I should take this too.” she smiled “It’s Labradorite, Hawkin’s said it can help us make decisions that lead to lucky outcomes and I think he was right,” Hana looked up at him with such a kind smile that no one had ever looked at him with “Because if I hadn’t come out today..I wouldn’t have seen you.”
Kid blinked and pulled her back into his arms “you’re crazy.” he chuckled.
“..crazy in love with you.” she mumbled into his chest. The trees rustled loudly as the wind plucked the deep red leaves from their branches and scattered them across the clearing as the sun began to set in the distance, as if pulling down a red curtain on the final act of a play.

Kitchen Songs
I kitchen dance..a lot..who doesn’t? Good catchy tune. You gotta sing and dance. More modern MetalPumpkin
Tumblr media
Kid enjoyed going around to Hana’s place, it was warm and inviting and he didn’t have to worry about being interrupted by his friends. Hana had given him a key so he could come and go as he pleased. Opening the door, he kicked his boots off in the hallway and went to call out to her but he heard music blasting from the kitchen, followed by a voice he didn’t know. Walking as quietly as he could toward the kitchen, poking his head round the open door. She hadn’t heard him arrive.
“I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night”
She was swaying in front of the counter, her shoulders moving with the song too. Kid leant against the doorframe and watched her contently,
“He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast”
Still she didn’t notice, as she picked up the rolling pin and sang into the end of it. As the song reached its peak power ballad.
“Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea”
Kid couldn’t help chuckle loudly, which finally gave his position away. The rolling pin hit the floor as she whirled around, her face a look of shock and horror, which was made cuter by the flour mark on her cheek.
“K-kid..How long have you been standing here?” she asked, bending to pick the rolling pin up. He crossed the kitchen to her, resting his hands on her hips.
“You really are a dead ringer for love.” He grinned, dipping to capture her lips passionately “I was really enjoying the show.” he added smugly,
“FORGET EVERYTHING!” she exclaimed loudly “h-how embarrassing…” she swatted his chest playfully “I can’t believe-”
Kid nuzzled her hair gently “you really are cute,” he teased, the song changed and he pulled Hana by her hands as he stepped backwards.
“Every night I grab some money and I go down to the bar” He slid his hands around her waist as he danced her around the kitchen, singing to her as they went. Spinning her around  by the hand before pulling her sharply against his chest “You got me beggin' on my knees, c'mon and throw the dog a bone” Her cheeks were burning like his love for her.
“Kiiid-” she let out a panic, screamed, as Kid placed a hand on her lower back to dip her. She scrambled to throw her arms around his neck “d-don’t drop me…” she whimpered. Kid laughed loudly and switched his grip to her hips and lifted her up in the air only for her to squirm in panic wrap her legs around him like a koala. “D-don’t pick me up so suddenly….” she whined, resting her head on his chest. Kid chuckled,
“Didn’t mean to scare ya,” he said, finally setting her back down on the floor “I realise..I’ve never heard you sing before.” Hana tensed, blushed and hurried back to the topless pie.
“A-and you won’t..again..”
“Aw come on, it was cute.” he purred, joining her by the counter “if we sing together maybe you won’t be as nervous?” he suggested, reaching to steal from chocolate from a nearby plate.
“D-don’t steal ingredients!” Hana sighed and turned her attention back to the pie “I’m prefer hearing you..I love hearing you sing.” she nodded proudly. Kid moved to stand behind her and slipped his arms around her waist “Kid I can’t bake like this-”
“I want to sing with you,” he whispered in her ear, holding her tighter “sing with me please.”

Birthday King
Happy Birthday dear Tulip!!!
Tumblr media
Selfship ahoy.
Under the cut because it’s a little long.
The moment Hana learnt of Kid’s birthday, she knew exactly what to make for it. Sure it could have been for Christmas but she held birthdays in higher regard. Locking herself in her sewing room, she sketched up her ideas. Needs a hat too..yes..and..some chains?..spikes?...Red..what shade..what fabric?
Once she was happy with the design she hurried to find the one person that knew Kid the best.
“Killer,” she found Killer in the kitchen as usual. He was in the middle of preparing the marinade the beef for cooking later, “sorry..I can come back later-”
“Did you need something?” he asked, noticing the drawing pad she was holding at her chest protectively.
“Yes..I just need your advice on something for Kid’s birthday.” she explained, shuffling nervously on the spot. Maybe this is a bad idea..maybe I should do something less extravagant?
“His birthday? You’ve got a while for that-” Killer hummed, setting a bottle of soy sauce down.
“Oh well..I need to start it soon or I won’t finish it,” walking towards Killer opening the book and showing him it “Sorry about the terrible drawing but..what do you think?” she asked, Killer cleaned his hands and took hold of the sketch pad.
“Isn’t this similar to Roger’s coat?” Killer stated, Hana jolted and panicked.
“Is it too similar? I wanted it to be Pirate king but Kid’s theme..if that makes sense..” she rambled “Oh! This is too much isn’t it?” Killer rested a hand on her head as if he were stopping an alarm clock ringing.
“It's fine, but why? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“Well. He’s going to be King of the pirates eventually right?” Killer nodded “So King needs his robes..or coat in this case. Do you think he’ll like it?” she asked squirming on the spot.
Killer’s shoulders shuddered in a silent laugh and handed her the book back “he’ll love it. Don’t make it too red, a darker red would be better like his old coat, he won’t admit but he liked that coat.”Killer suggested.
“Duly noted! Thank you so much!” Hana smiled brightly and hurried on her way. She had much to do and time was of the essence. Oh...how do I get his measurements?!
“Just measure his current coat.” she replied to her own question out loud “I’m such an idiot.”
-
She made sure she collected the best fabrics for the coat and used the crew’s help smuggling large amounts of deep red fur and other elements onto the ship. Plaster after plaster was applied to her hands and fingers from her severe concentration. Each chain was clipped and twisted together to get the perfect drape and length. Killer had been roped in to test the width of the coat, since he was closest in shoulder size to the coat’s desired host and Hana’s mannequin lacked big shoulders. “It’s nowhere near finished but what do you think so far?” she asked nervously as Killer carefully set the coat onto the small mannequin best he could.
“It’s good. What are these bits for?” Killer asked, gesturing to the loops and pockets on the inside of the jacket.
“Oh, well you can never have too many pockets and well..maybe a hipflask, extra knives, compass, bullets? Treasure map.. Small stuff..” she rambled nervously, which made Killer uncharastically snort “bad idea?”
“Great idea. You got all bases covered it seems.” Killer ruffled her head and patted her shoulder proudly “keep up the good work. Don’t forget to sleep though.” he scolded.
Hana spent most of her free time toiling away on Kid’s new coat. sometimes losing track of time. It was a lot of new techniques and a good chance to practise her embroidery a little more. I can’t rush it. It has to be perfect!
Thankfully Kid was easily as absorbed in his work but he did start to notice her absence during the day when she would bring him lunch now it was Killer. Kid would grumble when Killer set his lunch on his workbench.
“She’s not your maid you know.” Killer chided,
“I know that, where is she?” Kid asked, sourly shoveling cabbage rolls into his mouth
Killer shrugged “busy.” Killer’s short responses made Kid grumble more.
Kid was not completely blind, he saw the plasters decorated most of her fingers and the weariness in her eyes when she finally shuffled into his cabin at night. But she was tight lipped as ever with her project. Kid had an inkling what she was making, he knew it was for him since everyone went to great lengths to keep him away from her sewing room, ushering him elsewhere with fake problems or promises of alcohol.
What a little troublemaker.
-
The day of Kid’s birthday came around sooner than she’d realised but it was done. She was proud of it. I hope Kid likes it...maybe I shouldn’t have made the hat. She held the large tricorn with Kid’s pirate logo embroidered on the front with a large feather and golden chain hanging between two of the points in her hands. It’s fine..it looks good.. I just hope he likes it...
-
Kid was a party person, he loved a good excuse to celebrate and drink and what better excuse than his birthday. Killer had made a huge feast, including his personal favourite: cabbage rolls. The crew often gifted Kid alcohol for his birthday or sometimes they enjoyed giving him prank gifts like: an udon bowl one year. Courtesy of Killer’s mentioning he later found out.
This year was different. This year there was a new addition to the crew. Hana had dressed up especially for this ‘little’ party wearing her best tartan dress and she was smiling and laughing with everyone, enjoying the atmosphere.
Childish as it was, Kid waited expectantly for her gift to be presented but everyone elses gifts were brought round in rotation. Once the last gift had been brought forward, Hana pushed her chair out “excuse me a moment.” she said, resting a hand on his arm and kissing his cheek softly.
Kid slumped in his chair and watched as she left the mess hall with Killer in tow. He grumbled reaching for one of the bottles of whiskey. The crew quickly set to entertaining Kid with various card games.
It felt like an eternity until three sharp knocks at the kitchen door. Everyone stopped what they were doing. “Oh, they're done.”
Kid frowned and watched them all rise looking at him expectantly. Some of the crew have huge grins across their faces: terrible poker faces these idiots.
Wire went first, his tall stature hiding the scene in front of them. They part as they get on deck, Kid still feeling salty about being ditched on his birthday but those feelings are quickly swept away by the crisp sea air when he spotted Hana shuffling nervously.
Once Kid was properly on deck, she stepped aside revealing the mass behind her. She..what a woman.. Kid closed his eyes and chuckled deeply. He recognized the gift before him.
“Happy birthday Kid..” she smiled, watching him stare at the coat taking in all the intricate detail. He almost didn’t watch to touch it. It was a coat that rivaled the great Gol.D Roger. No..this is better. His hand reached for the spiked pauldrons on one side of the side, trailing down to gold chains that formed an elaborate design down the front, the soft short pile fur and on the back his pirate flag carefully embroidered in gold.
“Kid..”
He didn’t reply, pulling his coat off his shoulders, chucking it to one of the crew to catch before he picked up the new coat and threw it over his shoulders, putting his good arm through the sleeve. It was heavy from the fabric and the metal accents but the love that had been woven into the jacket made him feel light as a feather. On one of the inside pockets he noticed a little pumpkin stitched there, he smiled softly, she too shared his dream. One day he would be pirate king and this coat was proof of it. He finally turned to face her with a faux stern look on his face.
"well..Pirate King needs a coat...and I couldn't resist a hat too,” She said, holding out the hat to him. Kid blinked and pulled his goggles around his neck, kneeling slightly to allow her to place the hat upon his head. “Happy Birthday my king." She smiled brightly, cupping his face and kissing him boldly in front of the whole crew.
Kid grinned, scooping her up in his metal arm “guess that makes you my queen then.” Hana blushed and threw her arms around his neck “well then you idiots, let's party and get back to conquering this damn ocean!” The crew cheered around him. “I am going to be Pirate King!” he declared loudly, which made them cheer again. The feel of pride swelling in his chest, how could he fail now with such high hopes resting upon his shoulders as well as such a splendid coat. He was invincible.

In the limelight
So... I’ve been sitting on this idea for a while...it’s not great but...LET KID SING TO ME  -cries- please
ModernAU MetalPumpkin. I live for punk Kid (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Tumblr media
“Sorry Barto! I didn’t mean for us to be late.” Hana apologised, getting off Bartomelo’s bike, handing the helmet back to him, shaking her hair free. They were supposed to be there half an hour ago but in a pumpkin panic, she had lost her house keys.
“It’s fine!” Barto laughed, “Come on, they should have started by now.”
“I’m so nervous..I haven’t been to a club like this in years..” Hana mumbled, pulling on the edge of her tartan skirt. “Do I look okay?” she asked, making sure her fringe was still straight and straightening her leather jacket. Barto ushered her towards the door, showing the doorman their tickets.
“You look fine.” Hana stepped into the bar was almost overwhelmed by the thundering bass, the rapid rap of the drums reverberating through the wooden floors. It was so stuffy and the smell of sweat and alcohol flooded the air.
“I remember why I stopped coming..” Hana grimaced as some guy didn’t see her and almost knocked her over. Barto steddied her and guided her through the crowd, using his brash attitude and cold glare to move people out the way, until Hana was dead centre in front of the stage. She had never seen Kid’s group perform. Sure she had heard Kid sing but this was a different setting.
He stood on the stage with such a gleaming and bright stage presence. So cool.  Her mouth hung open in awe, as she watched and listened as Kid belted out some lyrics, gripping the microphone and stand firmly. He’s so wonderful… A wistful sigh left her lips as a smile gilded onto her face.
“Aint bad right?” Barto said in her ear, she nodded, excitedly fiddling with her jacket cuffs, her heart was racing, the energy of being at a live show filling her body was pushing all her previous worries away. Her eyes never left Kid, he looked perfect on stage. He was shirtless, with a sleeveless studded leather jacket on, fingerless leather gloves, a lot of chains hung around his neck, tight leather trousers topped with a studded belt and his usual chunky black boots, his hair pushed out of his face with a thick bandana. As the song finished, there was the usual clapping and whistling. As he cast off his jacket, Killer launched a drumstick at him and gestured with his head in her direction. Kid looked around curiously, stopping when his eyes met hers. Smilingly wyly, she offered him a little wave.

It was the start of the usual good show. Kid loved being on stage, he loved singing and people listening. A few songs on, Kid had to chuck his jacket off he was way too warm, leather looked cool but wasn’t breathable at all. As he turned back a drumstick connected with his head, snapping his head to Killer who gestured behind him. Following Killer’s look, he spotted a familiar mop of orange. She...what’s she doing here…. He noticed a blur of green behind her giving him a thumbs up and then promptly a middle finger. That damn rooster..
Kid ran a hand over his sweat laden hair and grinned before headed back to the front of the stage taking hold of the microphone. “Changing the pace for a moment..this song is for my girl.” he announced, looking down at Hana who was already visibly panicking.  You can’t hide from me.. Pulling the mic from the stand he crouched down in front of her, she tensed and looked down at her feet in embarrassment. Look at me..
“Have I told you
Lately that I love you
If I didn't, darlin'”
He reached down to cup her chin making her look up at him, staring her longingly in the eyes as he sung her song, just for her.
“You see, I'm so sorry
Didn't I reach out
And hold you
In these lovin' arms”
Hana blushed and smiled as he serenaded her in front of a crowd of people. She followed the guide of his fingers as they left her cheek as he stood back up to finish the song but not without making sure she knew he was looking at her and only her. As the song neared it’s close, he squatted in front of Hana reaching again to curl his fingers in the ends of her hair, she in turn rested her hands on the stage to lift herself up to steal a kiss from him.
“You’re so cool..” she whispered against his lips. Kid felt all the blood rush to his face, he was sure steam was coming off his face. Dropping back into the crowd, leaving Kid flustered a moment before he coughed and regained his composure. “Don’t be too jealous of my sweet girl.” Kid bolstered smugly, even though he wanted to lift her onto stage to hold her close whilst he sang.
For the rest of the show, he couldn’t stop stealing a glance of her looking up at him in awe and wonder.
She’s...the best…
