World info: The Province of Fera

Based in the mountainous, fertile lands of the northern islands, the Province of Fera is home to a spiritual, independent race of humans. Most Ferans are welcoming of outsiders, and even openly share their culture with them. The people of other races and cultures come to these lands to learn wisdom from their monks. Making the Province a flourishing land of colourful, bright cities contrasted with rugged natural landscapes. The typical Feran settlements are small villages though. Most villages are run by the citizen’s elders, and are usually located near a monastery. The villages provide supplies to the monks, and the monks help to protect the villagers from threats both of the monster, and bandit variety.

Feran religion is based around the worship of a pantheon of gods, there are 5 main gods, with many demigods below them. The five main deities are: Fuei, beautiful goddess of the sun, she represents passion creativity, energy and movement. Yinan, the deity of the moon, magic, the arcane, and knowledge. Yinan represents change, and many trans and non-binary people look to them for inspiration and protection. Most of them are called ‘moon children’ and are thought to be under the protection of Yinan. Eumai a non-gendered deity of nature, plants, and growth. Many farmers will pray to them, as well as hunters and trappers. Rakou is the boastful goddess of war, honour, tradition. She is responsible for protecting the ancient customs and rituals of her people. Most warriors will worship her. And last but not least. Fenra, god of the Sky, storms, weather, and specifically, rain. Farmers and ranchers also pray to both Fenra and Eumai, as both of them together form the cycles of the seasons. Every Feran household will usually have a shrine to their patron deity, and there are many shrines scattered throughout the lands for worshippers to pray and meditate. The main five deities have temples dedicated to them, with many acolytes and priests serving the temple. All temples offer a variety of healing services, teaching programs, and sanctuary to those who need it.

A large part of the Fera way is to live in harmony with nature, and all the citizens of the province do their best to live in a balance between their traditional ways and technology. Many of the advances have been adopted into Feran life, just more moderately. Aether ships are used extensively to transport good to other lands. They have a small naval force that patrols the shores of their lands. And many of the advances in standard living have made an impact on the day-to-day lives of Ferans. Steam baths and natural springs are still the preferred means of cleaning, but showers have become immensely popular, especially in the more cramped cities. Steam and Aethercite power are adopted, but many Ferans feel a hesitation to fully integrate these technologies, unlike their cousins to the south. Guns are very much frowned upon, and Mystech is not very popular for most Feran fighters. Due to the nature of Feran martial arts, the idea of effortless perfection, done through years of hard study, has led to the more elegant, simple weapons to still be popular. The riders of the steppes, one of the main inland patrol forces, still prefer their curved bows to any sort of firearm.   

Like most humans, Ferans have very low rates of magic users. The very few Magi that show the knack are either taken in my the Shamans of the Wilds, or the monks. The Shaman of the Wilds are a tight-knit group of people who maintain the balance between the spiritual realm and that of people. They are able to wield Harmony Magik with ease, shaping flame and rock with their signature mastery. It is said that a Shaman must never be denied, and all favors asked of them are for the good of the people.

One skill that is unique to Feran martial arts is Aura; Monks and many warriors have mastered, through years of training and meditation, to control the inner energies of their bodies. This energy is known as ‘aura’ and can be used to enhance their attacks, or even heal wounds. This is a form of magik that is completely foreign to the other races. Even a humble monk, armed only with a simple staff, can break metal armor and send enemies flying by properly channeling these energies. The ability to heal with a person’s aura is a technique that is revered in the Feran lands, and healers are held in very high regard.
