Guess whos back? Back again? Monas back! Tell a friend! XD

All jokes and Eminem-Songs aside (did I just date myself? XD) after 3 blissful weeks off, I have reached my last weekend before my very much hated much calls me back to earn the money I need to afford being able to play games. And with recent Kai CVs and stuff and so close to Kais release, I feel like I have reached the usual point were I can only play one thing: A Trails game. And with my Twitter-Timeline (X? What is that? Never heard of it ;P) reminding me of all the great moments from the Sky-Games I've decided to finally go back and try to finish my rerun. (I probably kick my ass if a remake really will be revealed at the end of the year tho XD)

I am not really sure why I did stop were I stopped. Playing such an old game with not many quality of life improvements and some crashes here and there is surely not easy, but when I finished the last chapter I actually posted that it was nice. So why stop there? Well anyway... we have yet to met my second blond angel, so lets return to the land of Liberl...

Oh! We are not so far away from Tita, it seems...

Kloe was able to face and rethink her decision regarding a certain throne thanks to Joshua and Estelle. Thanks to them and their assistance she saw that her country needed her and finally started realizing that it was egoistic of her to refuse the throne and give it to her... uh... uncle? No... great cousin? No... Uh... he is the Queens Nepthew so... uh... her great Nephew? Oh whatever! You know what I mean! The man only ever thinks of himself and uses his position for his own benefits and that man is supposed to become King of Liberl one day because Kloe didn't feel up to the challenge and wanted to live a normal life.

Despite all my anger and frustration at her... I do understand her a bit tho. We've seen what the pressure of being heir to the throne can do to someone with Cedric. And we also saw multiple times the dangers such a title entails. I would likely be scared of it too... so that is one thing I certainly would not hold against her. But its still good that her experience with the Bracers made her rethink her situation.

We Trails-Players shall love all of our animal companions/mascots very much! That is the rule of Trails ♥

This tunnel gives me some serious PTSD because of the Dungeon it will eventually lead me to and I guess I remember now why I would stop here, so shortly before FINALLY meeting Tita.

Because Joshuas first kiss belongs to Estelle. His lips only belong to her. And we very much fight hard for her to finally kiss him, just to... yeah... I am getting ahead of myself here XD

Why oh why could she feel relieved about the fact that Joshua and Kloe did not in fact Kiss? What reason could there be? If we only knew... XD

Seriously tho, the way our Trails protagonists handle their feelings is ridiculous.

Estelle Siblings-Zoned Joshua, trying to ship him with every girl but herself until it FINALLY clicked with her that she wanted to be shipped with him.

Lloyd thought that he could bot be with Elie because she came from such a good prestigious family and he wasn't worthy or her and in the process of only thinking but not telling her that he digged himself a hole.

Rean on the other hand, rushed to save Alisa from an unknown danger and even tho it brought him a slap in the face and some dreadful weeks of wondering how to fix this little problem... it ended up absolutely in his favor with Alisa being THE girl of all girls for him and he still managed to obliviously flirt left, right and center with the girls surrounding him even if you make it so he does no other bonding events with any girl but Alisa XD

And then there is Van... talking about his relationship with Elaine like its just been them misjudging their feelings, being absolutely oblivious to that Dancer girl having feelings for him and not seeing Agnes as a woman and... we will see how this will play out but even if he ends up with Elaine (which is most likely the case - much to my dismay...) it still has been some road to get there ^^'

Tita! My girl! My child! My Angel! My Baby! I missed her so much! And look how adorable she was as a child. She is so darn cute!

I'd say I did miss you Killika, but you are still not dating Zin so... yeah... not so sure about missing you until you have done that XD Jokes aside, it is weird seeing her in that Asioan dress, given how she looks like a businesswoman in Calvard these days ^^'

Professor Russel is seriously the only sane one among all those old geezers who do sciences and engineering ^^' I mean look at Alisas father... or Professor Smidt (how was his name written again?) and their is something screaming SECRETS about Hamilton as well - and no, that is not just me being paranoid because its always the guys with the labcoats XD

All jokes aside... Professor Russel might be the only sane person among the old guys, but his daughter on the other hand... how she could have produced my sweet angel Tita is still beyond me ^^'

Uhm... uh... maybe I take it back that he is the only sane one among them ^^'

Oh! Dorothy! I totally forgot that we see each other quite often. And that she is... a bit of a magnet for trouble XD

Its actually mandatory for a Trails game to have some sort of hot spring or hot bath or something like that. It makes me want to go to a hot spring one day too XD

A Solid Beginning

My journey when it came to the Legend of Heroes series began with Rean Schwarzer and his merry band of misfit classmates that comprised Class 7 in Trails of Cold Steel. I can’t say what prompted me to purchase the title on my PlayStation Vita, but purchase it I did and was subsequently taken on a grand adventure throughout the Erebonian Empire before I was mildly displeased at the sudden appearance of an ancient mech. In all my anime-watching, I’ve always hated fictional worlds with huge mechanical suits. They’re much too cliche for my tastes and frankly, the less they appear in the media I consume, the better.

While I did purchase Trails of Cold Steel 3 and fully intend to play it in the near future, forums I scoured recommended playing the Trails in the Sky series beforehand. Why? Well, how better to understand what Olivert Reise Arnor was doing prior to the events of Giliath Osborne trying to take over the world? And what of the sudden appearance of a certain Lloyd Bannings in Trails of Cold Steel 2?

So, after slowing purchasing the games from GoG (Good Old Games), I began Trails in the Sky just before the impending releases of a hundred thousand different games that would be coming out in November. 

Trails in the Sky begins with a mysterious boy being delivered to a bright-eyed Estelle Bright by her very own father. Shenanigans occur and it is not long before there’s a time skip and we rejoin Estelle and her adopted brother, Joshua, when they turn sixteen and decide to take on a test that would allow them to become junior bracers at their local guild in Rolent.

When her father takes on an important mission, both Estelle and Joshua are left behind. Eager to prove their worth, they assist the townsfolk by completing odd jobs. It is not long, however, that they rise to the role of detectives, solving the theft of a valuable orbment necklace that was meant to be delivered to the Queen of Liberl for her birthday celebration. Estelle, never one to pick up on subtle clues, is shocked to discover it is Josette - a girl she assumed was a student at a prestigious academy in the Kingdom - a sky pirate. They duke it out before Josette is rescued by her brother, fleeing towards Bose.

Thus ends the prologue after several hours of gameplay and dialogue. 

Within days of uncovering the crime, Estelle and Joshua learn that the ship their father was on has gone missing. Worried, they enlist the aid of Scherazard and head to Bose (not knowing, yet, that the sky pirates and the disappearance of the Linde are connected). It is not long before they are swept into another mystery, which they solve within days of arriving in the new city, and begin travelling around the Kingdom of Liberl to learn more about its denizens. 

Throughout their journey, they make new friends and impress each local branch of the Bracers guild while solving major problems plaguing the cities that they visit. It is the fourth city, Zeiss, however, when the plot starts to pick up and the characters begin to sense something darker and more sinister is at play. It was also here that I started paying more attention, having nearly fallen asleep at the proverbial wheel with the glacial pacing of the narrative.

After carrying around a MacGuffin black orbment, several questions were answered even as the game set about laying out the seeds for a grand conspiracy plot. But as with always the case of protagonists, they plod through most of the subtext, oblivious until the villain of the piece declares his master plan. Without the means of airships, Estelle and Joshua set out for Grancel via foot and finally arrive just as the Intelligence Division begins its coup d’etat.

While the rescue missions were fun and served to propel the plot forward, the final boss was a bit of a letdown. In many stories from the Japanese role playing genre, I find the human to human struggle much more engaging than having to fight an archaic machine Alas, that was the case here.

Worse, was the fact that Reverie was hardly what I might have called challenging. Instead, the machine proved annoying with his high defence and health stats. Equipped with two magic users and having Estelle and Joshua dish out the occasional hurt with physical attacks, the battle was soon over and the kingdom saved.

Trails in the Sky plays like the first arc of a major story. Were it the sole game in the series, it would have felt incomplete. Knowing that there were two other games waiting in the wings, I was able to stifle much of my disappointment. Even though I would have liked for most of the loose ends to have been tied off. A stand alone title, Trails in the Sky is most assuredly not. Whether that was uncovering Olivier Lenheim’s true identity and purpose in Liberl, to whatever was Ouroborous and the mysterious Weissmann.

The combat is turn-based and felt much simpler than the mechanics employed in Trails of Cold Steel. I can’t rightly say why but I will chalk it up to the fact that there were no bonuses to experience points being earned through certain victory conditions. Just like in Trails of Cold Steel, characters place quartz into spare slots - triggering certain spells and stat boosting abilities.

Being familiar with the system, it was easy for me to pick up the mechanics again and trounce my foes. Most bosses gave me hardly any trouble - except of course, Lorence.

As for the characters themselves, my favourites were Joshua and Kloe, the disguised princess of Liberl. Tita and Agate were also enjoyable. But as the credits rolled, I regretted not getting to know them a little better. After completing each major city, the other characters left and it was back to my two-man party of Estelle and Joshua.

Overall, Trails in the Sky was a good introduction to the complex world created by Nihon Falcom. It provides some much needed background and introduced players to certain key characters that would later play important roles in later titles. The world building in The Legend of Heroes is top notch. As a writer, it was interesting to see the multiple and opposing views shared by heroes, villains and the general public. For that, the developers and story writers ought to be applauded. But while the story to Trails in the Sky FC was fairly simplistic, I am eager to see how the characters fit into the larger narrative and what the sequels have in store for this new fan to the franchise.

As a side note, I hate the fact that several side missions are missable, have a limited time frame or are hidden. Of course, having played through Trails of Cold Steel, I knew this beforehand and played through the game with a trusty walkthrough to guide me.

A/N: I mentioned a show on the first night in my Author's Note, and it's really worth mentioning again. Hunters (Amazon Prime) is about a group of Jews in 1977 that hunt Nazis who are living in America. Logan Lerman plays the male lead, Jonah Heidelbaum, and his performance in the ten episodes that are currently available is his best one yet. There's mixed reviews within the Jewish community, I'm one of the people that praise it. HIGHLY recommend it to everyone that loves PJO and especially Dark!Percy because it's the Dark!Percy content that we barely see in Rick’s books. It’s also the Percy Jackson performance from Logan Lerman we never got from the m*vies. I’ve created a blog dedicated to the show called @simpingforthehunt and will be posting my full thoughts on the show sometime soon! Something in regards to a small bit of this fic: Something From Nothing is a Jewish Children’s book that I absolutely love. On that note, Happy last night of Hanukkah! It’s been a tough one this year. Hope you enjoy this last fic :)

For the Eighth Day: the eighth light is the light of Courage. Let truth and justice be your armour and fear not. Judah Maccabee, the hero of Chanukah, lived by the words Moses spoke to Joshua: "Be strong and of good courage."

While the kids were out of the house for the day, Percy and his partner wrapped their gifts and placed them in two different piles in the living room. While both parties grew up with their parents giving them one present on each day, they had decided to wait until the last day of Hanukkah to open the gifts.

They weren't sure about the new tradition at first, but it ended up being fun. It was entertaining to watch the two siblings searching the house trying to figure out where everything was hidden. One day, Y/N walked into their room to see their kids snooping around and the sight made them burst into laughter. Not only were they trying to be sneaky, but it was also clear that both of them got into their parent's makeup. When Percy came home from work, Y/N rushed over to him to show the pictures they took before removing the makeup off their faces.

Every year was an eventful holiday, and this year was no exception. The adults had just finished tying bows on the final gifts when the kids ran into the house, followed by their Safta and Saba. "Abba! Nibi!"

After having to be reminded to take their shoes off, the kids ran into the arms of their parents. "How was your day with Safta and Saba?"

"It was so much fun!" Their daughter, Silena, gushed on about the day they had. Their son, Jason, added his own tidbits into the story as his sister rattled on but mostly stayed quiet. Sally and Paul had taken the kids to the ice rink for the day and treated them to some sufganiyot from the Kosher bakery nearby.

"Can we open our presents now?" Jason asked, excitedly. While Silena was giving her parents a play-by-play of the day, her brother had noticed the two piles and was itching to get to his.

"After dinner, bud," Percy chuckled. "We made a new batch of latkes."

"Yay!" the kids chorused and ran to the dinner table.

"Apparently lighting the candles can wait," Y/N said, smiling at their husband. Silena and Jason moved from their spots at the dinner table to the two menorahs that were set up on the island in the kitchen. Sally picked up the matchbook and lit the shamash on both menorah's, and the family recited the brachah together as Percy and Y/N lit their respective hanukkiah.

During dinner, the adults had a chance to talk while the kids stuffed their faces with the fried heaven. "Where's Estelle today?"

"Celebrating Hanukkah at Emma's house tonight," Paul explained. "They haven't seen each other much since Grad."

"She said that she'll visit next week," Sally said, watching her grandkids in amusement.

Jason and Silena both opted to put applesauce and sour cream on their latkes and were decorating the food to make it look like a surprised face. Y/N laughed and turned to their husband. "I remember when we did that."

"The only difference is we were twelve," he smiled at the memory. The first latke lunch he joined when Gabe was gone consisted of the B'Nai Mitzvah class fooling around with the food rather than eating it. All of them grabbed three each and arranged them so that they could make emoticons with the applesauce.

"Can we open our presents now?" Silena asked, looking at the living room. Everyone was finished dinner, so they agreed. Deciding to deal with the dishes after the kid's bedtime, they followed and took places on the couches.

There was wrapping paper all over the room in an instant. Silena's eyes lit up at her new American Girl doll, this one with black hair and green eyes just like her. Jason seemed to be itching to open his brand new set of hot wheels and play with them on the racing track he got for his birthday.

As more gifts were opened, a bigger mess was made. Y/N took to slowly cleaning it so that there wasn't much to do later. By the time all the gifts were open, Silena and Jason were tuckered out. Y/N and Percy carried both of them upstairs and waited as they got ready for bed. As soon as Jason sat next to his sister on her bed, they insisted on their Safta reading them Something From Nothing.

When Percy and Y/N made their way back downstairs, they immediately got to cleaning up before wishing Sally and Paul goodnight as they were leaving. This was by far the married couple's favourite Hanukkah.

Kai no Kiseki - Thoughts and Feelings towards the Opening and the game overall Part 2

Speaking of Shizuna... these scene kind of hit me hard. The town is partly burning and (seemingly) dead (or unconscious) members of her group are lying around her, while she is on her fucking knees. That is Shizuna we are talking about. If she is down like this, that can't be good. I mean... who could even do this? She bested my freaking Rean. A Diving Blade. So who on earth could attack her place and kill her people? I mean, that could very well just be a flashback to her past or something... but damn, I didn't expect that.

I almost missed the transition from Student-Elaine to adult Elaine in this scene. Not sure what to think about it tho. I mean... why are we crying and yet smiling?

Is it because... you know... her relationship with Van has been finally fixed?

Seriously, my two cents for this ship? I feel like they cling to a feeling of the past. They have known each other since childhood, and their romantic relationship ended without them really being able to get closure. I feel like they just want to go back to it, because they have never really ended it, if you get me. If she can make Van happy, so be it, but in my eyes, on the long run, it is not going to work. She can not fully trust him as a spriggan and he will get annoyed by her arrogant "Bracers always follow the rules" attitude eventually. BUT even if I am right, it is possible that they actually need to get together first, to finish what they never could probably end before. So...

I am not delusional. Elaine becoming canon is much more likely than Agnes. I get that. I give Agnes a 30% chance at best. But... I still feel that my ship would be the better choice in the end ^^'

But moving on from this for now...

Where are we and why are we looking so concerned? I am glad we finally get to see Renne, as people have grown worried about the fact that she has not been seen in any of the Trailer yet. But I am concerned that if Estelle and Joshua are really not in Calvard at all, that she has to go through whatever is going to happen (to Agnes, and Zemuria as a whole...) alone yet again. That just doesn't feel right.

Who the hell are they? And what do they want? There are so many theories out there but one is more unlikely than the other. I hope they are not some cheap "fake" Villiane, to distract us from the real culprit or something like that.

I have no idea what is going on with those Twins but it seems like being an Enforcers is pulling them apart. I honestly didn't expect them to have much of a big role in this game, but I guess that was stupid of me.

I do not know what to do with myself regarding this fight. I of course want my golden child to win and I think he deserves the win. But... this is not his arc... would it be okay for him to win in an arc that belongs more to Shizuna than to him? And would it be still epic and satisfying if this would end in either a draw or someone breaking up the fight for some reason?

This is the scene from the Trailer. The Night-Sly-Scene as you can see. I do not say anymore about this. This is either going immensely well... or very, very, very wrong...

Some people speculated that Van ended up rejecting both Agnes and Elaine and while Elaine moves on and decided to just stay friends, Agnes stays with her feelings and hopes he will change his mind someday. Honestly? Wouldn't it be fun if Van decides to stay single and both Girls move on with someone else? That would be an epic failure but be so fitting for this damn loveless Calvard-Arc XD

Kevin is fighting that long-haired guys from Ouroboros that is rumored to be the blind reporter that we met before and that had been speculated to be a member of Ourobors for quite some time now. And he wouldn't be the first one in some sort of disguise. (All that aside... why is constantly something burning in the background of this opening? XD)

Possibly Agnes? Yes. Very likely.

Oh no! She is crying? My poor girl!

Now... here is the thing... this is likely all do to her bloodline, the fact that the first Genesis is reacting so strongly to her and god knows what else but... some people (me included) fear that the actual thing that causes her inner Grendel awakening is actually being rejected by Van. That was honestly a worry of mine as well. But on the other hand... its not like Agnes isn't prepared for this. So why should it cause her to have such a strong reaction that something like this happens?

Whatever ultimately causes it... Van better saves my little girl!

This scene screams "all is well" - ending. Especially with both girls waiting for Van next to each other. But don't count on it!

I am still very worried. If it is just me being anxious for no reason, will be seen in September when I will react to someone else's "Lets play" of this game.

Unorganised thoughts on Trails in the Sky: The 3rd

I had a twelve hour marathon session to finish it yesterday, why no, I don’t have a social life, why do you ask?

What an ending!

That horrible thing happened where I find a final boss really hard and then I look up the game afterwards and everyone’s going on about how easy it was and I’m like :/

I’m not good at video games

I can’t believe the game starts with Kevin SPOILING THE END OF CARNELIA, damnit it Kevin, I never read it because I missed some chapters in FC and was planning on reading it when I replayed

I read it in the garden. It’s pretty good 

I love the doors thing so much. The main plot was like... fine, as an excuse to have a game, but I would honestly have bought this if it were nothing but just a bunch of these little vignettes. Shows how good the characters are

Really enjoyed Schera and Estelle’s Moon Doors, and the Star Doors about Olivier, Julia, the one at the banquet, Zin’s (surprsingly, as I’ve always found him kinda dull), the Ravens (MY BOYS), Campanella breaking the fourth wall, and Bleublanc. 

I hated all of the minigames except the quiz. I like quizzes

I did not finish the Nightmare Arena. I kept a save if I ever feel like going back and trying, but I probably won’t

Special mention: Fucking hell Star Door 15 do I have to say more

I figured that at most it was going to be an abusive, or maybe negligent parents thing, not... 

I take back my previous comments about not caring for Renne

I resent the ‘win x battles’ doors because I’m the kind of player who skips encounters whenever possible, so I ended up having to grind in Abyss for hours - and the reward is very little, really >:(

The game pushes Olivier and Schera, which I don’t hate but like. She’s way too good for him. Her Moon Door kind of made me like her with Aina, actually, more than anything else  

Speaking of Olivier, I don’t necessarily ship him with Mueller, but one thing I noticed about them that I thought was very sweet is that despite Mueller’s usual frustration at Olivier’s flirtations, he doesn’t seem to take any issue with Olivier calling him ‘love’. It’s a nice, subtle indication that there is mutual affection there, really. I don’t know. It made me smile

I like Mueller and Julia together as well. Except for the fact that their names sound awful next to each other

They had a lot of time to hang out on the bench...

So, uh. Tita and Agate. Why. Like, in the first two games it was very much a pseudo-sibling relationship, and then we meet Erika who seems pretty convinced it’s something far... worse, and you know what? That’s understandable. If I had a thirteen year old daughter and I’d been informed that in my absence she had become close friends with an adult man I didn’t know, I would be pretty damn concerned

But Anelace?!? Who knows Agate and knows he’s a good person and still seems to think their relationship is romantic?!? And she’s supportive!?!

I mean, not to Age Gap Discourse, but no. Bad. What the hell. She’s unambiguously a child

The saving grace is that, at the very least, it seems like this is just everyone else’s misunderstanding of the situation. Which is good, because I really, really like Agate and wouldn’t want to have to start despising him (perhaps a case could be made for Tita having a crush. As far as I’m concerned, that’s perfectly fine - as long as it isn’t reciprocated)

It’s so weird how every chapter is pretty short and supplemented by doors, except 6 which takes approximately 15 years

I do like how blatantly Falcom was wringing every last bit of usage possible out of all the old assets 

I started yelling GILBERT everytime he appeared, god he’s such a loser I LOVE him

I loved being able to play as Richard so much. He’s genuinely my favourite antagonist in the whole series so far. He just had the most interesting motivations to me (and I’m a huge sucker for redemptions)

I wish it had been clearer that I wouldn’t be able to do a team reshuffle for the final boss, because I took my four best characters (Kevin, Estelle, Joshua and Richard) and made them Team Leaders, with the intention of then using them all together for the final fight. Which I of course couldn’t do. So I got stuck with underequipped glass cannon Tita in that final arena. Remarkably, she survived

I didn’t tear up at the end you can’t prove it

So Crossbell is of course next, but after a few hours of messing around with translation patches and corrupted zip files and that one doujin website where you can buy it but it’s all in Japanese, I have come to the conclusion that I’m not going to be able to play it unless we get an official localisation 

But what I have found is a Let’s Play! Which is definitely not ideal, but it’s that or no Crossbell at all for me. So my plan is that I’ll watch that, and also play the first two Cold Steel games concurrently, as I’m told that’s okay. Should all be interesting

Fans hoping for major DC news in lieu of an actual San Diego Comic-Con are definitely going to get just that at DC FanDome, a digital event designed to be watched at home like a real con.

Originally set up as one epic night of panels and reveals, DC announced that it will be splitting FanDome into two separate and distinct events: Hall of Heroes, which will be held in late August, and WatchVerse in mid-September.

The August date still holds most of the big-ticket items. It’s billed by DC as “an epic world designed personally by Jim Lee featuring special programming, panels and exclusive reveals from a wide variety of films, TV series, games, comics and more.” Functionally, it’s the Hall H of FanDome.

This DC FanDome trailer gives fans a good glimpse at what they can expect from the event:

While DC FanDome is free for all to enjoy, you will need to create an account on DCFanDome.com in order to watch the event. You’ll then be able to access each panel via the DC FanDome program scheduler.

Following the conclusion of The Batman panel at the end of Hall of Heroes, the Fandome schedule will then cycle back through two more times, giving you three shots to watch in a 24-hour period.

DC FanDome: WatchVerse Date and Time

DC will host a second, on-demand FanDome event called WatchVerse on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 1 pm ET. While viewers will be able to access all content in any order they please, the event will only be available for 24 hours.
