ransom’s seen pretty much everything.
travelled around the world, eaten the finest delicacies, snapped away for five years into non-existence all because of a purple, ball-sack face alien.
or so he thought.
because sitting here cuffed to a chair infront of you barely conscious, he begs to differ.
how did the night get so fucked so fast?
“hey.” he extends his leg, trying to nudge yours desperately.
you were a sight to behold with your hair undone, dark locks tousled around your delicate neck.
but ransom can’t afford to marvel at you, in fact the first thing he needs to do is get the fuck away from you.
because the way you’d jammed that glass cup up that bartender’s throat without a second thought, you were no ordinary woman.
“psst, hey.” He tries again, eyes skimming over the room.
they probably were holding them both for ransom.
hell would freeze over before he gave any of his money to those fuckers who chained him up like a dog.
you stir around slightly as you slowly open your heavy eyes. a groan slips out when you try to adjust yourself, only tightening the hold on your hands.
“good, you’re up.”
you lift your head to see a bloodied ransom across you.
slumping back into your seat, your body cries out in pain at the slightest movements.
as soon as you’d tasted the martini, you knew it was an ambush, thankfully spitting most of it out.
but it was too late, the drug almost instantaneously taking action, making you groggy.
the last thing you vaguely remember is dragging ransom out only to be whacked out cold, seeing stars.
“what’s going on? hey, are you going back to sleep?”he asks, straining his leg out to nudge yours again.
“you just don’t shut up, do you?” you croak out, barely above a whisper.
“i’m being held hostage in this room,” his nose scrunches up, “so, I’m sorry if I’m just a little curious as to what the fuck is going on.”
he looks almost pitiful, dried blood on his forehead and desperation in his eyes.
reminds you of steve after missions when he would limp around, all bruised up.
your eyes flicker over to the one camera pointed right at you, but the way it was angled you knew your hands weren’t in view.
“do you know about the avengers?” you work on dislocating your wrist to free your hands chained behind you.
not exactly your favourite thing but it worked everytime.
he rolls his eyes and quirks an eyebrow.
“you think I don’t know the avengers? the whole ‘saviours of the world but we choose to remain anonymous’ crap?”
“well, you’re looking at one right now.” you give an umamused smile, slightly flinching at the wrench that causes a tear in your ligaments.
he probably wouldn’t have believed you if he hadn’t witness you take down six people with such ease just a few hours? ago.
“anyways long story short, you look just like captain america and for some reason hydra just can’t seem to get over that face of yours.”
he lets out a genuine laugh which only seems to intensify the throbbing pain in his head.
you were a whole other kind of crazy.
“steve rogers? no one’s even seen his face under that dumb cowl of his.” he snorts, noticing the slight shift in your face at the mention of steve.
“andy barber. jake jensen. colin shea. ever heard of them?”
another tear.
he shakes his head, his irritation only growing by the very second.
“a few months ago, each one of them started disappearing one after the other. the only thing they had in common was their faces. they looked exactly like you, like him.”
you clench your jaw as you position your wrist for the final twist.
the last one always hurt like a bitch.
“you’re crazy.” he huffs, in disbelief.
he knew he shouldn’t have gone to that stupid event, not let his mother get in his head like always.
he could be at home right now, in his lavish three bedroom villa overlooking the sylvan surroundings.
but here he was, tied up in a filthy room with an avenger.
you might have to agree with him on the crazy part because you’re regretting the whole dislocating thing when the last twist pulls through, pain nearly blinding you.
he can only watch in horror as he realises what you’re doing.
“no, like you’re actually insane.” he breathes out in disbelief as your hands slip out of the chain.
the door swings open, guns pointed right at you.
a particular face in the middle catches your eye as you recognise him.
“you know you’re not getting out of here that easy, right?” zemo chuckles, “broke those pretty bones for nothing.”
“you get blipped for five years and this is the first thing you do? somebody needs to get a life.” you slowly get up, hands raised (you think?)
you couldn’t really feel them anymore.
“sit back down.” he orders, gun pointed right at your head.
he yells at you to sit down again but the gun’s pointed at ransom now.
“holy fuck, dude, don’t point that shit at me. this is how 99% of the people in movies die.” ransom pleads, his eyes closed.
“he’s not steve, you know that. so, why are you doing this? I mean I know why I’m doing this.” you hesitantly sit back down, your ears pleased for once to hear the familiar whirring.
just a few more seconds. that’s all you needed.
he cocks his head, “doing what?”
“buying time.”
ransom’s seen enough action movies to know the probability of him accidentally being shot by any of the rain of bullets whizzing past you two right now is high.
too high for his liking.
he thinks he saw a red flying thing knock out zemo? before you pushed him down so hard the chair broke.
“jesus christ, are you trying to kill me?” He yells, his back throbbing in pain.
and all of a sudden, it’s quiet,a persistent ringing taking over his ears.
he opens his eyes to see you hovering over his face.
it’s weird, your lips seem to be moving but he can’t hear you.
and it’s all black.
“i just want you to know that what you did back there, that was stupid.” sam glares at you, in the rearview mirror.
“and dumb.” bucky chimes in.
you roll your eyes.
it was going to be a long ride to the safehouse.
the car bumps and ransom bounces around, his head hitting the top.
“jesus, hold him or something.” bucky turns around, looking at ransom’s unconscious body sprawled on the seat.
you scoot over closer to ransom, your hand guiding his head to your lap.
bucky turns back around, a grin creeping up to his face which you just want to punch off.
you look down at the bloody mess on Ransom’s forehead, fingers slightly grazing over it.
it was done with a blunt object, most likely the back of a gun.
you can’t stop staring at his face, the same lump forming in your throat again.
so you force yourself to look away, focus on the trees zooming past until sam stops the car infront of a small house, “we’re here.”
bucky hands you a bag of essentials, waving at you to go in, “we got him.”
the house is actually better than most safe houses you’re used to.
it has electricity and hot water and that’s already made it a top contender.
you head straight for the shower, stripping down to nothing while turning on the water.
you hiss in pain at the contact of water on your aching skin.
the water’s scorching hot but it’s the only way you feel clean.
you scrub off the grime and dirt like always, desperately washing away the dried blood under your fingernails.
a trail of reddish brown water as you wash your hair, nails scratching every surface of your scalp.
quickly changing into a set of clean clothes, you pull out a box of needles.
you’re sloppy with your stitches, maybe cause you’d gotten used to him doing it for you.
throwing your wet hair into a towel, you debate whether to clean his wound up or not.
but your hand is already reaching for the bag of first aid sprawled all over the sink.
“it’s just a nice thing to do.” you mumble, making your way to the living room.
sam’s passed out on the couch adjacent to ransom and you’re pretty sure bucky went out to get some food.
they’ve changed his clothes for him but the ugly bruise on his forehead only seems to be swelling up.
you sit down on the floor, rummaging through the box, pulling out cotton and antiseptic.
“am I dead?” he croaks out, slightly shifting.
you chuckle, looking back at him.
a few dabs of the brown liquid on the cotton.
“this is gonna sting.” You warn him before gently wiping the angry bruise.
he flinches, groaning in pain.
“where am I?”
“safe.”
“yea, that’s really comforting.” he looks up at you in annoyance.
you exchange to a new waft of cotton, still cleaning up the dried up blood.
it’s strange, how weird yet nice your gentle touches feel.
the way your lips slightly part and eyebrows knit together as you concentrate.
ransom never really had someone take care of him like this.
“wher’s Steve?” he asks the lingering question on his mind.
there’d been many conspiracy theories online, each one crazier than the other.
he again notices the slight clench of the jaw, the shift in your position at the mention of his name.
“gone.” you reply stoically, placing the gauze over the swelling wound.
a shit reply but he can’t bring himself to pry further.
you look down at his face, the familiarity of this catching you offguard.
after every mission, he’d force you to sit down and tend to your every wound, every scratch.
can’t have my girl walking around, all bruised up like that.
and you’d force him to sit down and do the same.
it was always so personal, standing between his legs, his hands around your waist while yours worked around.
“hey, you okay?” ransom lifts his head, regretting it instantly as pain shoots up his entire body.
you blink away the tears threatening to spill any second.
“yeah, I’m good. Get some rest.”
you fumble around, hurriedly picking up the first aid kit, your shaky hands doing little to help you.
you were clearly distraught and ransom had a sneaking suspicion why.

WHERE TO BUY BARBER SHOP ACCESSORIES IN AUSTRALIA
Whether you run your own barber shop or need accessories for essential grooming at home, you need professional equipment to do the best job. There are plenty of options online for barber shop accessories, but if you’re looking for quality you need to go with a brand that you can trust. With many people taking care of their own personal grooming nowadays, you should ensure you buy products that are going to last and give the best results. If you are trying to find professional barber shop accessories in Australia, here are a few tips.
Tips for buying barber shop accessories
Before you make a snap decision, it’s advisable to shop around and look for the best deal. Don’t necessarily opt for the cheapest option, however, as you might lose out on quality. If you’re looking for something that’s long-lasting, check to see if it has a warranty, for example. Avoid sets and packs as well in order to save money unless you need everything in there. It’s often better to spend more on the individual item you require without wasting money on additional barber shop accessories. This way, you’re guaranteed better quality.
If you offer professional barber services, then it’s vital to choose the best products for your clients. It’s definitely worth investing a little the first time around so you’ll be able to achieve the desired results and create good word of mouth for your business in the community.
Check out the range at K5 International
At K5 International, we offer a wide selection of barber shop accessories, so you can rest assured you’ll find what you’re looking for according to your own unique requirements and budget. You also have the advantage of free and fast delivery service. Our range of barber accessories are of a high professional standard, and suitable for salons and mobile hairdressers.
If you’re working as an experienced barber or new to styling, we’ve handpicked the best equipment for you. Our collection of essential barber equipment includes hairdressing combs, razors, brushes, and replacement blades. Our products are suitable for home use but are still salon-quality, so you’ll be able to achieve the results you’re looking for.
Combs and sets
A decent comb is one of the most essential barber shop accessories in your kit. We have a wide variety of unisex hairdressing combs available both individually and as sets. You can either opt for a set of multi-use combs or choose a high-end individual barber comb. Our combs are available in different materials ranging from aluminum to carbon, or wood. We only sell durable combs and comb sets suitable for both professional and personal use.
Razors
Another important tool used by barbers is a quality razor. There are different types of razors, those that are designed for hair removal, hair shaping, and hair thinning. What you use them for depends on the look you’re going for. For beard shaping, a professional hair shaper razor is the most suitable. If you’re looking to shave completely, then you invest in a quality hair removal safety razor. If you need a more delicate tool for eyebrows, hair thinning, or hair slicing, you can opt for a thinning razor comb. We also sell multi-purpose razors with changeable blades.
Shaving accessories
To go with a razor you’re going to need other shaving accessories whether you’re a professional barber or taking care of your personal grooming. A good quality brush is always recommendable. At K5 International we offer a range of shaving brushes in both natural and synthetic materials. These also are available in sets with safety razors. If you use a safety razor it’s always better to buy a better quality one and replace the blades every so often. You can buy single and double edge blades from our online store.
If you run your own barber shop or salon, then there are few other accessories you might need. Look for a non-slip mat as you’ll need somewhere to set up all your tools. These also help protect any surfaces from electronic products are they’re heat-resistant. We also have professional salon water spray bottles and clipper combs for holding longer hair in place.
Whether you’re a professional barber or just want to create an expert look at home, check out our selection of the best barber accessories. Our products at K5 International are affordable without compromising on quality. With free shipping all around the country, you won’t be able to find a better deal for barber shop accessories in Australia.

Restaurants Fought for Covid Survival, With Some Tech Helpers The past year has crushed independent restaurants across the country and brought a reality to their doors: Many were unprepared for a digital world. Unlike other small retailers, restaurateurs could keep the tech low, with basic websites and maybe Instagram accounts with tantalizing, well-lit photos of their food. For the past decade, Krystle Mobayeni had been trying to convince them that they needed more. Ms. Mobayeni, a first-generation Iranian-American, started her company, BentoBox, in 2013 as a side job. She wanted to use her graphic design skills to help restaurants build more robust websites with e-commerce abilities. But it was a hard sell. For many, she said, her services were a “nice to have,” not a necessity. Until 2020. The pandemic sent chefs and owners flocking to BentoBox, as they suddenly needed to add to-go ordering, delivery scheduling, gift card sales and more to their websites. Before the pandemic the company, based in New York City, had about 4,800 clients, including the high-profile Manhattan restaurant Gramercy Tavern; today it has more than 7,000 restaurants onboard and recently received a $28.8 million investment led by Goldman Sachs. “I feel like our company was built for this moment,” Ms. Mobayeni said. The moment opened a well of opportunity for companies like BentoBox that are determined to help restaurants survive. Dozens of companies have either started or scaled up sharply as they found their services in urgent demand. Meanwhile, investors and venture capitalists have been sourcing deals in the “restaurant tech” sector — particularly seeking companies that bring the big chains’ advantages to independent restaurants. “A lot of what’s happening is reminiscent of what we’ve seen in the broader retail sector in the past decade,” said R.J. Hottovy, a restaurant industry analyst and an investor at Aaron Allen & Associates. “Covid accelerated the transformation quite a bit. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to redefine the experience.” Part of what Ms. Mobayeni offers restaurants is a one-stop shop and the ability to own their customer data. Many restaurants rely on third-party vendors, such as DoorDash or UberEats, to handle delivery. But those companies charge significant fees and retain customers’ data because the transactions go through their websites. That’s not such a big deal when delivery is 20 percent of a restaurant’s income stream, but it’s a game-changer when delivery becomes 100 percent of income — and you can’t contact any of your customers. “Restaurants realized they had to think of themselves as larger businesses and brands,” said Camilla Marcus, co-founder of TechTable, which connects the hospitality and tech industries. “You have to expand into other things: e-commerce, delivery, products. You have to think outside the four walls.” Helping restaurants deepen relationships with customers is where Sam Bernstein saw an opportunity. Before the pandemic he ran a tech start-up that connected students to housing, similar to Airbnb; when universities sent students home last spring, his revenue fell to zero. He went to his board of directors and offered to return what investment was left and close down. Instead the board suggested he regroup with a smaller team and new vision. “It was an existential crisis, as you can imagine,” he said. Mr. Bernstein laid off all but 10 employees and took them for a brainstorming retreat. They considered dozens of business models, looking for the right problem to solve. The more they discussed options, the more the members of the team realized they were all interested in food and hospitality and wanted to help restaurants. They hit upon the idea for a site that would allow customers to “subscribe” to their favorite restaurants. The new firm, Table22, would help chefs develop and market subscriptions for monthly meal kits and wine clubs, for example, and then manage the sales, recurring billing, scheduling, data analytics and more. In exchange, Table22 takes a percentage of each transaction. Table22, which is based in New York, went live with its first restaurant in May. Since then, it has grown to more than 150 restaurants in 50 cities. Late last year, the company received about $7 million from investors, who include David Barber, owner of Blue Hill farm and restaurants. Shelby Allison signed up her Chicago bar, Lost Lake, for the service on a cold email from Table22. She was hesitant at first, planning to listen just long enough to learn how to create a cocktail subscription service herself. “We get lots and lots of calls from these tech companies trying to help — or prey upon — us struggling businesses,” she said. Today in Business Updated  April 16, 2021, 1:30 p.m. ET But she was impressed by the low service fee and the fact that Table22 shared customer data. She started the service in October, hoping for 30 sign-ups; 100 people joined. Ms. Allison now has 300 subscribers and five employees working on the make-at-home cocktail boxes. “This will 100 percent stay in the future,” she said. “I love this program. I thought it might cannibalize my to-go business, but it hasn’t at all.” Ping Ho considered signing up with Table22 to host the wine and meat clubs she offers at her Detroit restaurant and butcher shop, Marrow, and wine bar, the Royce. She decided against it, however, because her existing subscription platform, Zoho, gave her the essential tools. “It’s a bit more work, but there’s more agency,” she said. But because her website was mostly informational, she realized she did need help offering online ordering and a delivery system for the butcher shop. So Ms. Ho turned to Mercato, which enables e-commerce for independent grocers. In a bit of fortuitous timing, she had signed up a month before the pandemic struck. When stay-at-home orders were issued, she was able to quickly begin offering grocery items, such as milk and eggs, in addition to meats. Her sales jumped “tremendously” she said, although they have flattened out in recent months. Still, Ms. Ho intends to maintain the service. Mercato began in 2015, but 2020 was its year. In February 2020, the service had 400 stores across 20 states; it quickly ramped up to more than 1,000 stores in 45 states. It continues to grow and has added some big-name clients, including the Ferry Building Marketplace on San Francisco’s Embarcadero, with dozens of merchants. “We’re trying to give independent grocers a sustainable competitive advantage,” said Bobby Brannigan, founder and chief executive of the company, which is based in San Diego. It’s a mission that he has been training for all his life. Mr. Brannigan’s family owns a grocery store in the Dyker Heights area of Brooklyn, where he started working when he was 8, stocking shelves and delivering groceries. “It’s ironic that I’m back to doing what I was doing as a kid in Brooklyn,” he said. Last March and April, Mercato brought on hundreds of new grocers each week — clients that weren’t used to having online orders or weren’t used to the sudden volume of orders. Some stores that were accustomed to 10 orders in a day were flooded with hundreds, Mr. Brannigan said. Thankfully, his dad already had him build tools into the system that would allow grocers to limit the pace of orders and schedule them. Mr. Brannigan is also adding more data analytics to help his clients better understand what their customers want. They can now see what was bought and what customers searched for. “You’re amassing a valuable treasure chest of data that lets you sell the products they want today and that they want tomorrow,” he said. Of course, not all solutions are tech-centric; sometimes, it’s just a grass-roots community of chefs helping chefs. Alison Cayne, for example, has been giving free advice to chefs looking to create packaged goods, like her line of Haven’s Kitchen sauces. Having that extra revenue stream was critical when she shuttered her Manhattan restaurant and cooking school last spring, and she wants others to have the same options. “This is all very much from my perspective, not the supercapitalized, venture capital-backed, cool-kids business,” she said. “I just want to help them take a brick-and-mortar business and develop a product and build a brand that makes sense and is sustainable.” In Detroit, the grocer Raphael Wright and the chefs Ederique Goudia and Jermond Booze developed a “diabolical plan,” as Mr. Wright called it, to offer a weekly meal kit cooked by Black chefs during Black History Month. “Black food businesses are hurting in the city, so we thought, what if we created this meal box in a way that celebrates Black food and Black contributions to American cuisine?” Mr. Wright said. They named the project Taste the Diaspora Detroit and brought together Black chefs and farmers to create the weekly dishes — like gumbo z’herbes and black-eyed pea masala. The three organized all of the e-commerce and scheduling, which allowed chefs to participate even if they weren’t tech-savvy, and created the packaging and inserts that told the history of the meal. They topped it off with a paired Spotify playlist. “Being a part of this project woke everyone up and made them think they have a little hope they can push through,” Mr. Wright said. They hope to reprise the service for Juneteenth and are currently talking to funders to support the effort. Source link Orbem News #Covid #Fought #Helpers #Restaurants #Survival #Tech

Tips for Salon Owners to Drive Reopening Excitement
Tumblr media
People have finally realized how invaluable barbers and hairdressers are during this lockdown.
Now that the lockdown has started lifting in all parts of the world, there’s a lot of excitement amongst the peeps. Especially people who have been counting down minutes to rectify their experiments, ahem disasters, during the lockdown.
However, the question here is are there any salon advertising ideas that will surely work while reopening the salons. We need to ensure the safety of the customers and staff while balancing the business parallelly.
If you are also confused, then read ahead for some tips for salon owners to help you get back in the market with a bang.
COVID-19 Reopening Guidelines and Advice for SalonsWhich Salon and Spa Can Reopen?
You need to check these guidelines as per your area codes to make sure that you are allowed to reopen your salon business.
At present hair salons are required to maintain social distancing while working which means your team needs to come in shifts.
If your area comes under containment zone or if your or your team has been in contact with a COVID 19 patient then you are not allowed to reopen your salon for business.
Apart from that, almost all the restrictions have been lifted. Keep the below-listed tips in mind for a smooth reopening.
1. Reduce Contact Time
To minimize the risk of spreading COVID 19, limit contact as much as possible. This is one of the best tips for salon owners. But, keep in mind the following:
Follow all safety precautions and social distancing rules.
Reduce the length of the time period that customers spend in your salon by implementing small changes like booking via the Salon appointment app instead of directly coming to the salon.
Try to minimize the number of different people coming in contact as low as possible.
The Queues will be longer so there is no doubt about that. People are desperate for beauty and salon treatments, with haircuts topping the list. So try to implement a no walk-ins and appointment only rule.
Close the waiting areas and try to communicate digitally as much as possible.
Try virtual consultations instead of people coming to your salon for treatment advice.
You can have this session before every appointment in order to reduce contact time.
2. Rethink about Staff Shift Patterns
Small salons can opt-out of this point, but the larger chains need to benefit from considering the shift pattern for their team.
Split your staff in work bubbles and ask them to come to the salon only during the allotted timings.
It will reduce the number of different people that come in contact and at the same time, you will have longer working hours without putting pressure on your team.
The time window for bookings will also increase so you can revise your opening times.
My Digi Salon can help you in managing your staff and help your team in optimizing your time. Also, these salon marketing trends are here to get into action after the pandemic ends.
3. Invest in PPE Kits and Other Essentials
PPE kits are really important to help keep your staff and clients safe. Good hygiene practices are quintessential.
You need to make sure that there are proper sanitization zones to cleanse hands.
Easy access to soaps and hand sanitizers to maintain good hygiene amongst the staff is also important.
Wipe down stations, washbasins, and other types of equipment after each use in order to make sure that they are not contaminated.
A quick and clean way is to keep disinfectant wipes handy at all times. Get 70% alcohol wipes to make sure that surfaces are clean and you can kill the novel coronavirus then and there.
Get disposable gloves to avoid drying of the skin. It will also act as a protective barrier.
Single-use latex-free gloves are a good option to avoid any latex allergies. You can even get powder-free gloves to make sure the residue is not left on your clothes, aprons, or basins.
Ask your team to not touch their faces while wearing gloves. These gloves should be worn once and then disposed of.
Facemasks are essential and should be worn by both the clients and the salon team.
To add in a protective layer aprons are a good PPE kit alternative. Use disposable gowns and aprons.
If you are opting for multiple use gowns then they should be laundered using the warmest setting possible.
Reusable gowns, towels are not only cost-effective but good for the environment as well.
4. Stay Informed on the Latest COVID-19 Advice
With the ongoing pandemic situation, the guidelines can change anytime. We pray to God that there’s no second wave that we have to deal with. But it can only be achieved if we take proper precautions.
As a salon, try to stay informed about the latest COVID-19 advice, restrictions, and guidelines in your area.
Do not reopen your salon if you do not have the official go-ahead from the government in your country.
All this to make sure that you are keeping the clients, your team, and yourself safe at all times.
Be prepared for whatever the outcome may be. You should have proper steps in place to deal with things like any team member or client getting infected.
Be active on social media and talk to your clients about it, Online communication is one amongst the best salon marketing ideas that we can leverage from.
Assure them that their safety is your priority.
5. Avoid Unnecessary Contact with Objects and surfaces
COVID-19 virus can stay on objects for as long as 24 hours and we need to limit the contact with all objects as much as possible.
Apart from the salon essentials like scissors, combs, and towels, you should avoid touching things.
Try to convey to your customers that they are responsible for their own stuff e.g. their coats, keys, etc. Remove services like serving water, drinks, biscuits or magazines, etc.
Try to opt for cashless online payments or loyalty credits from your salon appointment app.
Be sure to communicate your guidelines to customers via texts, emails, social media, and calls.
All in all, take precautions wherever necessary and possible.
6. Treatments are Still a Treat- Make Them fun!
All these rules and regulations have made going out stressful rather than helping in destressing.
Everyone is so focused on these guidelines that it can be a bit tricky to keep things fun.
Instead of testing your customers with magazines, food and drinks, opt for music, lighting, candles, and essential oils. Try to create an ambiance that relaxes them in an instant.
You need to make sure that your clients feel at ease and forget about the world for a while.
Conclusion:
Don’t forget to communicate either. By using social media, emails, texts and calls keep clients informed.
My Digi Salon is the best app for salon owners to make sure all the above steps are being followed. From online communication to staff management and managing the booking schedule. You can do anything you want from just one app.
We hope that you open your salon soon and get back to business, we’ll help you manage it. Just reach out to us at www.mydigisalon.com or download My Digi Salon App Now!

Hairdressers could reopen in just two weeks with barbers and stylists in ‘dentist-style’ PPE
Tumblr media
BRITS desperate for a haircut after weeks of lockdown are in luck as Boris Johnson could allow hair salons and barbershops to reopen within less than two weeks. It had been feared salons and barbershops could stay shut until the end of July to curb the spread of coronavirus. But now the Prime Minister is considering proposals to reopen them later this month, The Telegraph reports. Many Brits have not had a haircut for more than 10 weeks or have been forced to attempt a DIY job at home. It's understood ministers are discussing moving forward the date as part of the drive to kickstart the UK economy as quickly as possible. And Downing Street believes salons could be open as early as June 15 with employees wearing 'dentist-style' PPE to protect against coronavirus. It's the date non-essential shops will start to reopen. This follows calls from the Hair and Barber Council which represents 11,000 salons across the country, to open the sector within the next fortnight. Hairdressers and barbers are likely to be kitted out in 'dentist-style' PPE when they're at work. One insider familiar with the plans told the Telegraph: “Hairdressers were supposed to be the next thing. Boris has talked about unleashing the great British haircut again. It would be treated under similar rules to dentists.” And a Number 10 source refused to rule out hairdressers opening from mid-June and said the PM was "moving cautiously" and "monitoring the situation before making anymore moves." Keith Conniford, the CEO of the Hair and Barber Council, previously said most practitioners and barbers would be ready for reopening in mid-June. He said: "I have spoken to a number of practitioners I know within barbering and hairdressing and resoundingly they said yes." Businesses have also been asked to get "Covid ready" before opening back up to customers. In hair salons, this could include staggered arrival and departure times, using screens or barriers for separation and keeping the activity time as short as possible. Hilarious photos have been circulating online of 'home haircuts' - with some truly dreadful results. During the pandemic, some stylists have even been flouting lockdown rules by secretly working from home. The Sun revealed last month that hairdressers have been posting adverts on classified websites - like Gumtree and community app Nextdoor. But many stylists insisted they aren't doing anything wrong as they are wearing masks and gloves. Some have been advertising their skills at discount prices in a bid to get business, even boasting of their training at "award winning" salons in Central London. A post on NextDoor advertised a Brazilian blow dry at "half the cost in a salon". One hairdresser - who did not want to be named - told The Sun: “I have a home salon, and I don’t qualify to be furloughed so I have to make money somehow. It comes as other shops are set to reopen on June 15 with strict social distancing regulations. These will include a ban on trying new clothes, make-up and testing products. Tough new social distancing measures also include hand sanitiser for staff and customers, quarantining of returned items and staggering times for click and collect orders.   Via thesun.co.uk Read the full article

Bad hair days: Virus confounds stylists in a fashion capital - art and culture
https://www.liveindiatimes.com/bad-hair-days-virus-confounds-stylists-in-a-fashion-capital-art-and-culture/
Tumblr media
Sara Gilmore has swapped out her hairbrush for a paintbrush.
The hair salon owner and watercolor hobbyist has found an unexpected audience for her paintings of flowers and Brooklyn brownstones. Since shuttering her Sara June salon last month, she and her employees have raised thousands of dollars by auctioning homemade pieces on the business’s Instagram.
“I’ve never showed anyone my art, ever,” Gilmore said. “To pivot my business into an art sale business is really funny but great. I’m glad that I’ve had at least that skill set that I could make a little bit of income.”
Tumblr media
In this Monday, April 27, 2020 photo, Sara Gilmore completes an order by charging a client’s credit card at her Brooklyn hair salon in New York. Like many small businesses in the grooming and beauty industry, Gilmore’s Sara June salon is doing everything it can to survive. While barbershops in Georgia were allowed to re-open last week, New York City’s non-essential businesses have no idea when they can see customers again, nor do they know what social distancing measures will still be in place when they do. (AP Photo/Mark Lennihan) ( AP )
The barbershops and salons that provide New Yorkers with cuts, colours, manicures and more are scrambling to ensure their small businesses can survive even after the state’s stay-at-home order is lifted. Generous customers are supplementing incomes for stylists relying on unemployment benefits, while barbers see the ugly results of home haircuts and trust that demand will return as soon as social distancing measures are lifted.
“It looks easier than it is, I guess,” joked John Vezza, owner of Astor Place Hairstylists in Manhattan. “Always use a good surgeon and a good barber.”
First, those shops must survive the shutdown. Some owners are having difficulty procuring federal loans to help pay employees, and many worry about operating well below capacity if they have to reopen under distancing restrictions.
“I think everyone is concerned about how it’s going to be when we get back,” Gilmore said.
Gilmore furloughed her entire 10-person staff in March and instructed them to apply for unemployment benefits. The government checks have helped, but they’ve also received significant financial support from customers.
The salon has raised $3,500 for employees through its online art sale, and other clients have sent donations directly to stylists. Gilmore is also selling do-it-yourself color kits, earning about $5,000 that has made a dent in rent payments and other overhead.
“People get very attached to their hairstylists, and we as hairstylists get very attached to our clients,” Gilmore said. “I think the community that builds up around the service of feeling good about yourself is a really strong community.”
Some salon owners have been luckier than others.
Alexander Delacqua, who operates Delacqua Salon & Medi Spa in Brooklyn, said his landlords have been “angels.” He has been in the same place for 18 years, and the building’s owner is offering flexibility on lease payments.
That’s allowing Delacqua to divert resources to his 35 employees.
“I want to take care of them,” he said. “They deserve this, and I don’t want to lose them.”
Retail made up about 20% of Delacqua’s business prior to the pandemic, and he has been able to maintain some sales via the company’s website. Like Gilmore, he is preparing DIY root color kits, too.
He was also among the first-round applicants to be approved for a loan under the Paycheck Protection Program, although he has yet to receive his money.
Vezza didn’t even get that far his first time applying. The Astor Place Hairstylists owner said he has been “voraciously” trying to get a loan through the federal program but has found it to be “virtually impossible.”
“The banking system really, really dropped the ball getting money to small guys like me,” he said.
Tumblr media
In this Monday, April 27, 2020 photo, client Merav Cidor, left, discusses her hair color with salon owner Sara Gilmore, in New York.
Vezza expects he can stay afloat another two months without reopening, but not much longer. Even when stay-at-home orders are lifted, there will be difficulties.
Delacqua and Vezza have a rare advantage among NYC shops — space. Delacqua has three floors, and Astor Place Hairstylists has 40 haircutting stations.
Gilmore’s situation is more typical. Her landlord has not been flexible, and social distancing in her small shop would require operating significantly below capacity.
She sees little to gain from the paycheck protection loans as they are structured. In order to qualify for loan forgiveness, she would have to rehire her full staff by June 30 and use 75% of the loan directly on payroll.
“They’re putting the pressure on small business owners to bring their employees back on before we’re even open again,” she said. “And then potentially having to lay them off if we don’t open in time or the money runs out.”
Gilmore needs capital for costs like rent, paying off debt and exploring alternative revenue sources for the short and medium term, she said.
With that, she could bring her employees back when the business is ready. The paycheck loans, with all their restrictions, aren’t going to help her achieve her ultimate goal — keeping her stylists employed long term.
With those concerns in mind, Gilmore and other female entrepreneurs in Brooklyn launched We Built This NYC last week. The coalition of business owners is pushing for rent relief, lease negotiations and better representation.
“We’re scrappy,” Gilmore said. “We’ve built a business in an expensive city, and we are in it to survive.”

Our Future with COVID-19
We’re staying at home, socially distancing, and dealing with closed school buildings, restaurants, and other non-essential businesses like salons and barbers, retail stores, and health clubs. But guts have grown, and hair has greyed, and while most people realize the need for the precautions, impatience is prevalent despite more than 100 positives recorded in the Upper Ohio Valley, including 24 in Ohio County alone. “When you have orders like we do now, life can get old pretty quickly because we’re used to going about things much differently,” said Howard Gamble, administrator of the Ohio County Health Department. “This has changed our daily lives for sure, and we still have some time to go. “It’s all about the numbers, and right now we are monitoring 23 active cases in Ohio County, and unfortunately, we have had a fatality due to the virus,” he reported. “We have seen positive signs here and across the state of West Virginia, but until the time arrives when we are not seeing cases reported for days and then weeks, we’ll be in the situation we’re in now for a while longer.”
Tumblr media
Researchers now have been able to examine COVID-19 to its core.
School Buildings Closed, Online Learning, Food Continues
W.Va. Gov. Jim Justice officially announced Tuesday afternoon that students in the state would not return to formal classrooms, but computer-based studies and food distribution would continue until the end of the state’s public-school academic calendar. The governor also urged school districts to develop plans for high school graduations for this summer, but Howard is not completely confident the Class of 2020 will be the last to be impacted by the coronavirus. “As far as the schools are concerned, when this first started a while ago, the concern in public health was that if the children did go back to school, they would be in a large setting,” he explained. “There would have been a lot of people gathering, including children and adults, and without a pharmasecutical treatment or a vaccine that many people in the same place would not have been a good situation. “If we still do not have a drop in the numbers to the point where this disease is manageable, and if we still don’t have the treatments or the vaccine, it’s going to be very difficult to send that many people back into a large setting,” Howard said. “Everyone knows that when the kids go back to school, there are a lot more germs that are going into our households, and there’s a lot of illness during that time of year. With this virus, I expect a treatment before a vaccine, but there’s a lot left to learn before we can get back to normal.”
Tumblr media
The Ohio County Health Department is located on the second floor of the Ohio County Courthouse.
A COVID-19 Season?
The Ohio County Health Department offers flu shots each and every year to help local residents stoke their immunity systems to fight the annual influenza strains, so could this novel coronavirus create a new need in our new normal? “There some viruses we see arrive at a certain time of year. Could this actually have a seasonal pattern? If so, I believe it will be short-term, but that’s yet to be seen. As far as a season of it, I don’t think so,” Howard said. “We have not seen such a season with other coronaviruses coming back seasonally, and we don’t see it with some of the other diseases like hepatitis or yellow fever. “It is possible that we could see additional cases next year, but we are hoping that there are those treatments or a vaccine before that could take place,” he continued. “If those things are developed, then controlling this disease becomes a whole lot easier. But in the beginning of this, we didn’t know much and didn’t know what to expect.” For now, testing will continue. “In the very beginning of this, testing was an issue, and to be able to get people tested caused some problems,” Howard recalled. “Thankfully, Wheeling Hospital stepped up very quickly with the large testing site that we have. But there are two important things to consider when it comes to testing. “One is the availability of the supplies you need to test,” he said. “We still have issues involving the test kits and those supplies, and what manpower we have to continue the testing. At the off-site at Wheeling Park, that staff continues to test between 40-90 people during the six days when the testing is taking place. But, right now, we have what we need to continue.” Read the full article

COVID-19 Impacts on Small-scale Farmers Underline the Need for Building Resilience
While global food supply chains may be starting to heal from the COVID-19 pandemic, food and agri-business Olam International underlines the importance of addressing the long-term wellness and operational resilience needs of those small-scale farmers in emerging markets who provide much of the world’s ingredients and raw materials.
A survey undertaken by Olam in July of 2,400 of smallholder farmers growing cocoa, coffee, sesame, cotton, and other crops in Africa and Indonesia, revealed that more than half were experiencing shortages in basic food and nutrition due to movement restrictions, food price increases and insufficient stocks at home[1]. Ability to afford food was impacted with 70% of those farmers surveyed saying they had less income than usual in the prior four months.
While spread of the virus in Africa seems to be gradual, according to the International Rescue Committee limitations in data collection and shortages in testing infrastructure mean that the numbers may be underreported. Indonesia continues to report new cases.
"In recent years, there has been some progress towards helping thousands of small-scale farmers become more resilient to shocks, including price drops, pests, and climate change impacts,” said Julie Greene, leading Olam’s social strategy. “But we must make sure this is not derailed. We need to redouble our public and private collaboration to encourage crop and income diversification, access to finance, promotion of health and human rights, and preservation of the environment.”
Ms Greene highlights Olam’s AtSource insights platform (AtSource.io) as a tool in the company’s approach to partnering with its customers and partners to tackle the issue. To drive change across supply chains, over 3,500 Olam enumerators collect impact data from farmers and communities in AtSource sustainability programmes which is made visible to customers via the online dashboard. This includes specific metrics on food security and access to clean water and sanitation. Together with multiple other metrics customers can then see the overall social and environmental footprint for every step of their product’s journey, from farm to factory. Such insights enable collaboration with Olam on improvement programmes. The Olam team is now mapping the recent COVID-19 survey findings with the AtSource programme data to identify hotspots where farmers may be most vulnerable.
“Some AtSource Plus programmes already include nutrition data but we are now ramping up focus on this critical area across the business,” adds Ms Greene.
Co-founder and Group CEO Sunny Verghese added, "Calories alone do not equate to good health, and we must do our best to avoid allowing COVID-19 to trigger a vicious cycle of reduced incomes, increased malnutrition, increased susceptibility to illness and, thereafter, its continued spread and economic consequences.”
In response to COVID-19, Olam has already committed US$5.7 million in financial and in-kind donations for relief and essential healthcare for farmers and rural communities. Over the next 6 months Olam will be mobilising partnerships to:
Provide 40,000 vulnerable households with food and health kits
Support food crop production, crop diversification and storage capacity of 40,000 households, through:
Distribution of food crop inputs and support for livestock
Credit for inputs and labour
Training and materials for crop storage and pest management
Communicate essential nutrition and health information to 500,000 households
Improve access to health for 40,000 households through:
Extending basic health services to rural areas
Construction of water points and latrines
Mr Verghese continued: "These immediate relief efforts must also be accompanied by approaches that address the underlying challenges that left many communities so exposed. We must collaborate across landscapes to scale regenerative agriculture; foster health, nutrition and human rights; facilitate access to farmer services, especially those related to post-harvest handling and storage; and promote market mechanisms for fair prices and sustainable practices."
"The time for action is now."

As per Wikipedia, One-chair or single-chair barbershops are small, usually independent.  Barbershops have only one barber chair available to customers, and this is an older tradition in the salon business and is slowly fading out. One-chair barbershops serve one customer at a time and provide a one-on-one experience. In contrast, multi-chair barbershops serve many clients at once and get clients in and out faster, so they can make more money by doing more clients concurrently.
