Pour ce projet, nous devions nous inspirer d'une musique pour créer une peinture sur vinyle. Cette peinture devait raconter une petite histoire. Je devais travailler sur Tiny d'Essa Weira. Je voulais au début montrer une jeune fille attendant un train dans une gare abandonnée entouré de tournesols. Je voulais une ambiance calme avec un personnage perdu dans un monde trop grand pour elle.

Cependant, pour compliquer le projet, on a eu deux contraintes aléatoires à ajouter à notre idée de base à la dernière minute. J'ai eu " violence " et " main "...

For this project, we had to find an inspiration from a music to create a painting on a vinyl. This painting had to tell a small story. I had to work on Tiny by Essa Weira. I wanted to represent a young girl waiting for a train in an abandoned train station surrounded by sunflowers. I wanted to show a peaceful place, with a character lost in a world too big for her.

However, to make the project more difficult, we had two random constraints to add to our basic idea at the last minute. Mine were 'violence' and 'hand'...

Review: Szou - ‘Rose Tinted’

Eve Machin reviews Szou’s latest single.

Pandemic-Pop princess Szou is back with her new single Rose-Tinted. Influenced by the likes of Christine and the Queens, Sigrid and Disclosure, Szou is busy bringing a fresh breath of electro-pop onto the UK scene. Since the release of her twin tracks Utopia and Dystopia, Szou has been working on solo and collaborative projects, and has recently signed to No Such Thing Records. This track promises what is set to be a very exciting 2021 for Szou.

A fizzing arpeggiated synth line kicks off the track and breaks down into a dance-beat that is quickly becoming Szou’s signature sound. This time around, the track has been produced alongside collaborators, mixed by Aaron Turner (Perfume Advert) and mastered by Caz Bowyer (Essa Weira). The work between the three has produced something very special indeed; the track sounds clean and smooth, blending Szou’s stylistic synth sounds, bubbling beats and velvet vocals perfectly.

The song harks back to nostalgia, friendship and freedom before the lockdown; Szou tells us: “I would give anything to do what we once did/Wasn’t just one big summer haze”. The fluttering energy of the track tells us something different, however; it sounds like spring is coming, telling of hope and a bright future, an escape from the current climate: “I should be present, but I get so swept up in it/the good and the bad it’s all rose-tinted”.

Rose-Tinted is released on 12th of March and is set to have an accompanying music video. Be sure to get it playing, no matter where the world is at by then.
