Always with you
Chapter 1 : Introduction to a boring day
“Yes, sir. The green spots in your concrete are totally normal,” I say to the phone for the third time in less than five minutes. “It’s almost spring and the cold weather and the rain are the perfect conditions for algae to start growing. Once the temperatures get warmer and the sun shines more often, you should be able to just brush the algae off with a broom.”
I start drawing on an empty post-it note on my desk, waiting for the man to stop yapping at the other end of the line. I hate finishing work late and being the one to close the office. Since I’m the only one left, I get a lot of weird guys on the phone.
“If you want someone else’s opinion, sir, I would recommend you to call back tomorrow. I’m sure one of my colleagues could help you with a technical solution to your problem because this is not my area,” I continue and this time the person sounds in a better mood. “Thank you, sir. Have a great evening.”
I put the phone back with a sigh and keep drawing. My own phone lays on my desk next to me. It’s unlocked with the Discord app open on a recent message I sent.
[Me] : Are you free for a game tonight?
It’s the message I sent to Maeva over an hour ago. I usually don’t mind her not replying quickly. She could be busy with another gaming session to train for the Spring Championship coming in two months, but it’s been three days since we last talked and I already miss playing with her.
I look at the clock. Five thirty-four. There’s still another twenty-six minutes left before I can leave to go home. It’s been calm today so I don’t have much left to do, except for continuing my little drawing of the Vulpir from the game Dragonitia.
Dragonitia is a multiplayer online battle arena game, also known as a Moba. It’s a five versus five game. Each champion of the team fights in a different part of the map, with four different paths called lanes. There is the top lane, the mid lane, the bottom or bot lane and then the lane called the Jungle. There, you have to kill monsters in the rest of the map instead of minions or other players.
Maeva and I have been playing the game for maybe nine or ten years now. She’s good at it. So good that she joined a professional team five years ago called the Dragons in Pyjamas or DiP for short. They’ve been the third best European team for two years now. She’s living her dream. Our dream.
Ping.
The sound of notification on my phone echoes around the room. My eyes immediately look at my phone screen, a hopeful feeling filling my chest. Unfortunately, it’s not a message from Maeva. Instead, it’s from Justin, Maeva’s coach, who is also an online friend of mine.
I sigh, not even trying to hide my disappointment as I read the message.
[Justin] : Mae is going out with us tonight. We’re celebrating our win!
Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that. I vaguely remember her talking about an upcoming scrim against the number two team in Europe. A scrim is a way to play against other teams without being ranked or judged. It’s a practice moment where the players can test new strategies and learn other ways to play with new members of the team. It doesn't matter who wins or loses, but a victory is always rewarding.
Dragonitia is really becoming more popular and serious compared to when we all started playing it.
[Me] : Congrats coach! Though, tell her that I want to play with her again soon, too. I need my support player!!
My main role in the game is a Carry AD, or ADC for short. I mostly deal physical damage from a distance. Though I also always need a support character, usually one that can heal or one that does crowd control to help me out.
Maeva is a support player. We’ve always played together since the beginning using the bottom lane. It’s what we call a duo lane, where two characters fight another two characters of an opposing team. The midlane and the toplane are both solo lanes, where you only have one versus one matches.
I prefer playing Dragonitia with Maeva because playing with a random support is always uneasy.
Suddenly, I hear another notification on my phone.
[Justin] : Hey! Maeva’s a pro. She has obligations. You should become a pro gamer, too!
I pout as I read Justin’s last message even if no one can see me, before I reply again.
[Me] : Two girls in the same team? Do you want to lose credibility?
Being a girl in the gaming industry is hard. I envy Maeva a lot. She’s tough enough to have a job there. But I’m not like her…
[Justin] : I know you don’t like your job, Ruby. Plus, you’ll see Maeva more often. You guys are childhood friends, no?
I hate it when Justin is right. Yes, I despise my job. Why would anyone like to spend eight hours a day with a manager who expects you to do more work than you’re actually paid for and who constantly complains that you’re too introverted to talk to clients face to face?
I sigh again. Unfortunately, I don’t have the required skills to be a pro gamer. I’m only ranked as a Master. The required level to be a pro gamer, however, is Challenger. Besides, Maeva is the only person I play regularly with, and even then, it’s barely two hours a day at most…
I turn back to my phone, typing out my reply, trying to not sound touched by his words.
[Me] : Doesn’t mean I want to play under your supervision ;)
After several minutes without a reply, I put my phone back down and go back to my little drawing. Justin must be busy with his team right now.
Just then, the phone rings again. Slightly reluctant, I pick up, greeting the person on the other side with a faux-happy voice. I can’t wait for the weekend to start. And hopefully I can play a game or two with Maeva, too.
Edit : chapter 2 here!

OW2 PVE has been axed completely, huh...
*sigh
I can't say I didn't see it coming to some extent, buuuut I still, perhaps foolishly, was holding onto hope that we'd get something. Nothing too grand, but still something. Cuz otherwise, 7 years of world building would be down the fucking drain.
Ha, ha, haaaa...
Honestly, live service games are the single worst possible medium to tell stories that exists. Fictional stories need an ending to be effective, but live service games want to run into perpetuality for that sweet sweet cash flow. If OW got a proper ending, how would Blizz keep shoving in new heroes? They would all have to be disconnected from the Talon/OW/Null Sector alignments because, well, where were those people when shit was going down? Yes, they could keep on making characters that are generally not connected to the main plot like Lifeweaver and Illari, people that just kind of exist in the world, but with a finished story they'd feel tacked on. Purposeless. And at that point what would keep lore and world building enthusiasts interested? All those casuals buying the precious virtual cosmetics? Gameplay, sure, but you cannot tell me all of them are playing the video game purely for the gameplay.
So while I can understand the reasoning behind the cancellation (as fucking shitty as capitalism is), and as inevitable as it was, it's still terrible after all of the teasing.

this is partially in jest because I couldn't think of a better topic for the reverse ask meme 😭 e-sports?
LMAOOOO thank you for asking tho PFFFF
i think esports are good because they constantly challenge developers to fix their fucking game (1) but also find ways to make the game more enjoyable. by the sheer fact that esports players play these games we like AD NAUSEUM means that there's a ready batch of beta testers for pretty much any feature for any game ever. and that is valuable to me, as a casual player of games, because i don't want to sit through the broken period or the period where shit sucks if i don't have to. i love that they get early access to game modes and get to collaborate with the actual designers (by providing feedback and shit) to make a game less shit.

Hey i choosed as a 'new year resolution' to do a 365 days writing challenge. So first prompt is ;
Write a story about a character after a New Years party
{Pure Fluff - Sergen (Broken Blade) x Martin (Yike) // Dylan Falco x Romain Bigeard}
Enjoy the read, yeah i contains ship of real people, you're free to scroll if it unplease you. And for those who'll read this (and find this cool) , comments / repost / liked are appreciated <3
G2 New Years parties were always something. They all get drunk, dance the whole night on shitty music, laugh all together, and regularly, banting with each other. Tables were covered by cans, bottles and packaging of diverses snacks.
At 6 am, everyone was sleeping. In fact, not everyone. Martin was, on Sergen's shoulder, both had a wonderful smile and their eyes closed, sharing this night together. On the other side of the couch, Mihael was sleeping, holding the fingers of Steven's left hand. This wasn't surprising to be honest, Miky needed touch all the time to be comforted, and avoid nightmares at night, so his friends naturally took care of this. Hans's right hand was already taken by his own phone, scrolling through social media. Dylan smiled seeing his players all like that. He sat on the couch between the two lovers and Miky, and sighed a bit, getting the party hat off of his head. He was not alone, he was with them, but he was still appart the group. Maybe because of the age difference, maybe because he wasn't that close to them. But it doesn't matter, as long as he could see them smile like that, or just take some rest, Dylan was the happiest man on earth.
Then, he heard something, no, someone, walking in to join as quietly as possible the room. It was Romain, smiling stupidly at the scene, looking at everyone. Dylan did a quick wave at him, Romain answered with the same wave, then he asked in the lowest volume possible, pointing a finger at the Slovenian.
“-should we move him to his room ?”
Dylan nodded, then stood up to take Mihael legs behind the ankles, while Romain took him under his arms. While they were moving the support to his room, Steven still walked by their side, holding Miky's hand. He only left it when Mihael was in his bed, and only for Steven to go to his bedroom too.
Dylan and Romain didn't want to bother the two love doves, so they let them sleep on the couch for the night. So the two grown men just stayed awkwardly in the corridor, looking at their feet after moving one of their players to his room.
“-I don't want to sleep alone tonight Romain…”
Said Dylan, not sure if he wanted to hear his coworker's voice in response or not .
“-Wanna sleep with me ?
-Yeah, i'd love to”
Answered the Canadian with a shy smile, no more words were needed between them. He followed the French to his room. They simply collapsed in the big bed, cuddling while falling asleep. Maybe Dylan wasn't alone at all at the end.

I don’t have anything for WIP Weds so have this Sashannarcy eSports AU write-up I’ve been thinking about instead

Marcy is an Epic Competitive Gamer best known for being the world's best Vagabondia Versus player, an older but still technically live service 1 on 1 pvp game. She's sponsored by Calamity eSports and streams, but rarely and without voice, but she's still pretty popular just for her gameplay that's several cuts above anyone else you could be watching.
When Vagabondia United, the next entry into the online versus Vagabondia games is announced, Marcy's fan base is excited to see her dominate ANOTHER game; and Marcy's happy to oblige them... Until she learns it's a 3v3 game.
Marcy isn't known for making friends in the community. She doesn't make tutorials, she hasn't done a collab for a decade, her organization has no other competitive VBV players signed because *why would they when they already signed the best*?
So the announcement passes and Marcy remains stoic about what her plans for VBU are because she doesn't have any... Until she gets an email from the eccentric owner of Calamity saying they've found some teammates for her to play with. She immediately writes back that she's not interested, and the owner responds that they aren't interested in using Marcy's contract to force her to play BUT they will be using it to at least force her to meet her potential teammates. Grumbling about lawyers, Marcy gets ready to meet the two idiots that Cal wants her to play with.

Frannie is a household name in the VTuber scene and has been for a couple years now. Of course, Anne Boonchuy isn't nearly as famous a name, even though they're one and the same. Rising to stardom in the VRenaissance, the duality of Frannie's positive attitude while playing rage inducing online games paired with her vicious temper when she did rarely get mad or, as happened more often, when someone fired the first shot at another member of her team, put her in a difficult to find and extremely popular niche.
But Anne wanted to keep her anonymity, which got harder and harder to do as she got more and more popular. She'd deleted all her oldest collabs, before she had adopted the Frannie avatar, to keep her friends (some of whom were her IRL friends rather than online ones) protected from the horde of her fanbase, the size of which frankly terrifies her, as thankful as she might be for them too.
Eventually though she thought she'd have to stop, that the struggle to keep herself hidden would become too much and she'd have to give up her fame, her face, her fun.
Until a curious benefactor made an offer she couldn't refuse; retain her anonymity, they'd take care of all that, and in return she'd work with their collection of creators. They didn't even want the money she was making beyond some extremely sensible maintenance costs; just for her to play with a pretty all-star list of creators, some of whom she hadn't even thought herself in the same realm as yet.
So began a perfect symbiosis, as far as Anne was concerned, and so it was that when her benefactor, who in five years hadn't once failed to hold up their end of the deal, asked to meet with her in person to discuss a potential opportunity, she agreed readily.
-
Two years. That's what the doctors said when Sasha asked them when she could play again. She'd asked them to repeat that, she must've heard them wrong. Two years. There must be something they can do?! Two years. Fractures can't be rushed if you want a return to peak performance; cheat the recovery and the bone will never be like it was again.
No Olympics, no WBA, no nothing. The sport of basketball had taken her temporary retirement from the court bleakly, but not nearly as hard as her team; or Sasha herself.
She sat in her hospital bed watching them lose matches they could've won if she'd just been there and when it came time to leave the hospital, four months into two years, she'd already decided she wouldn't blame them if nobody came to see her off. She wasn't even sure where she was going, really.
What she did not expect was a car waiting for her with the owner of the Toads in it, but that was what was there outside the hospital that day. She'd expected a polite but firm "renegotiation" of her contract; but again, what she expected wasn't what she got.
The news her contract had been sold to someone else and for a real, albeit discounted, price apparently too, wasn't expected either. But that’s what the team owner told her, and when she asked WHY someone wanted her contract, he said they have a game for her to play. Without legs? She’s skeptical, but, well, what else is she gonna do for a year and a half, right?

🥟Cerita Siaomay

Always with you
Chapter 5 : Uniform
Thank you @cluelesspigeons for beta reading 😌
Chapter 1 - Previous chapter
“Ruby, I know the secretary isn’t here and you have to do her work now, but don’t forget you also have to do your own job,” Valentin says. He’s standing next to my desk. “Come find me after lunch.”
I look at him as he leaves the room, fighting the urge to pull a face at him.
“He just can’t leave me alone…” I sigh before looking down to my tupperware box.
I hate this man. I hate the fact that everybody needs something from me yet never seems to care that I’m doing three people’s jobs in the same amount of time. How am I supposed to do my work and the secretary’s while also doing part of my manager’s?
I put my fork halfheartedly in the spaghetti I made last night… I’m not hungry. Not anymore.
Ping.
I look down at my phone and see a new message from Maeva on discord. I open the app and my eyes widen in surprise. She has sent me pictures of her and her teammates.
[Mae] : New photoshoot with our new uniform! :D
They were all wearing black sweatpants with the orange dragon logo on the side. Their shirt was also black with an abstract, orange shape and the dragon logo in the center. DiP was written both on the back of the T-shirt and on the short sleeves.
The whole team looked cool but Maeva was pretty. Her long, black wolf cut was put up in a ponytail, her bangs falling down the sides of her face. She is smiling fiercely.
[Me] : You all look so cool!!!! Did you find your new member, then?
It takes her some time to answer back. The more I look at the uniform, the more I think about how I would look in those and how cool it would be to be next to Maeva.
Maybe I should try out for the team? If I got rejected maybe Maeve doesn’t need to know. I could ask Justin to not tell her.
“Ruby Allen!” Valentin called from his office. “Why haven’t you sent the files to the Gesck Society yet?”
I close my eyes and try not to destroy the fork I hold in my hand. I take a deep breath to calm down.
Ping.
“I told you I didn’t have time this morning!” I shout back. “I’ll send them after lunch!”
“No need. I’ll do it myself. It’s too important!”
“Then why did you ask me to do it this morning when you saw that I was overwhelmed with work?” I say quietly to myself.
Ping.
I look down at my phone again and put the fork with the food down. Maeva has sent two pictures.
What the fuck? Maeva Clark, what are you doing?
The first picture was of her standing next to someone, probably one of her teammates. But instead of the person’s face, she had put my face on it. It’s weird to see me standing next to her, in the new DiP uniform with my strawberry blond hair covering half of the shirt.
The other picture was also an edited picture, showing the back of the T-shirt where underneath the team name my username Scatty Cat was written.
My phone vibrates one last time.
[Mae] : You’d look good with it, right? :3
[Mae] : I gotta go, ttyl!
I don’t reply. Not yet at least.
I do look good in the uniform. And the more I look at the pictures of us; the faster my heart starts beating. This was our dream. To play together, and win the world cup.
“Ruby?” Valentin calls again. “Where did you put the files for Roseberry City?”
I turn off my phone. It’s just a good dream, but it’s not reality. Right now I’m still here at my job, behind my desk on my lunch break. Unfortunately, Valentin doesn't know how to stop working, even during break time.
“I’m coming,” I sigh and get up.
Tonight I’ll play harder. Maybe fate is telling me to quit this job. And maybe I should listen to it.
