CAB Urges BCCI for Rescheduling Pakistan-England Match Amidst Unforeseen Circumstances
They have recommended November 11, rather than November 12 which is additionally the date of the Hindu celebration of Kali Puja
The Cricket Relationship of Bengal (Taxi) has mentioned the BCCI to move the Britain versus Pakistan ODI World Cup game, booked to be played at Kolkata's Eden Nurseries on November 12, to another date, proposing November 11 as another option. The improvement came after the city police informed Taxi that they are expecting upgraded security for the game as Pakistan are one of the groups. November 12 is additionally the date for Kalipujo, one of the city's, and the locale's, most significant Hindu celebrations.
ESPNcricinfo comprehends that Taxi authorities had a gathering with city police experts on Thursday, and were educated about the rule of peace and law worries upon the arrival of the celebration. Following that, the affiliation kept in touch with Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, mentioning the date change.
This comes close behind the Ahmedabad police communicating its failure to give security to the India versus Pakistan game on October 15, since it conflicted with the primary day of the nine-day Hindu celebration of Navaratri, perhaps of the main celebration in Gujarat, of which Ahmedabad is a section, and numerous different pieces of northern India. The game - still in Ahmedabad - has since been moved to October 14, however the ICC or the BCCI is yet to offer an authority expression with that impact.
Shah, in the interim, has said that the date change - for that and a couple other matches - became essential since a few partaking sheets had kept in touch with the BCCI communicating their interests about the movement required between matches.
Kolkata police's position isn't ideal dealing with a significant strict occasion and a significant cricket match around the same time.
The Taxi's position is an unenviable one. In 2011, when the ODI World Cup was last had in this impact of the world, Kolkata, and the city's famous Eden Nurseries arena, was considered ill suited to have the India versus Britain game. The scene facilitated three games, which didn't include India, in 2011.
Taxi, and cricket fans in Kolkata, would have zero desire to be in a circumstance where the high end Britain versus Pakistan game is moved to another city, and it is perceived the affiliation authorities have likewise connected with Mamata Banerjee, the main priest of the province of West Bengal, to attempt to mediate.
The first timetable of the World Cup had Eden Nurseries set apart to have five games: Bangladesh versus Netherlands on October 28, Bangladesh versus Pakistan on October 31, India versus South Africa on November 5, the Britain versus Pakistan on November 12, and the second semi-last on November 16.
The timetable of the World Cup was delivered after a long defer on June 27, only 100 days before the booked beginning of the competition on October 5 in Ahmedabad, though the timetables for the last two versions of the competition, in Australia and New Zealand (2015) and Britain and Ribs (2019) were out over a year ahead of time.

Sanjay Govil, the US-based tech entrepreneur and owner of Washington Freedom, is set to buy a minority stake in Welsh Fire, the Cardiff-based team in the Hundred. ESPNcricinfo understands that Govil submitted the higher of two sealed bids in a process on Friday evening which was delayed by the three-hour bidding war for London Spirit.ESPNcricinfo understands that the winning bid valued 100% of the Fire at £67.5 million, implying Govil will pay just over £33m for his minority share in the team.He will now enter a period of exclusivity with Glamorgan, the Fire's host county. The two parties will negotiate contractual details with the help of the ECB and their advisors over the next eight weeks. Glamorgan told their members earlier this month that they intend to retain their 51% controlling stake in Welsh Fire.Govil is the chairman of two tech companies in the US: Infinite Computer Solutions, a leading technology services company, and Zyter, a health technology services company. Two years ago, he made his first substantial cricketing investment by buying Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket and the franchise won the title in their second season, with Ricky Ponting serving as head coach.ESPNcricinfo understands that Govil outbid one other contender in the final round. Capri Global, the Indian loans company who own UP Warriorz and Sharjah Warriorz in the WPL and ILT20 respectively, were understood to be the losing bidder. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny, the Hollywood actors and Wrexham AFC co-owners, held talks with Glamorgan but dropped out before the final round of bidding. The Freedom's bid is understood to have impressed Glamorgan from early in the process, with chief executive Dan Cherry telling ESPNcricinfo last year that the club valued the idea of identifying a "true partner" rather than simply an investor. "We are keen to build a partnership where people can add value to us as a club," Cherry said.Washington Freedom were MLC champions in 2024•MLCThe Fire have failed to reach the play-offs in the first four editions of the men's Hundred, but their women's team have been more successful and were losing finalists last year. They are expected to be the team with the lowest valuation of the eight, having attracted relatively small crowds to date. The valuation means that the ECB has brought around £278 million into the English game with the sale of 49% stakes in four Hundred teams over the past two days. The revenue will be split between the 18 first-class counties, MCC and the recreational game in England and Wales, and is designed to "future-proof" the county game for at least the next two decades. The ECB declined to comment, while Glamorgan were also contacted for comment.

Owen's 39-ball century, which sets a new record, secures the Hurricanes' first Title of BBL
The Hobart Hurricanes won their first title in spectacular fashion, and Mitchell Owen, who had a boisterous Bellerive Oval crowd in the palm of his hands, finished a breakout season with the equally-fastest BBL century.
After Owen produced an innings for the ages, the Hurricanes easily achieved the highest chase in a BBL final, despite needing an apparently difficult 183 runs. He finished with 108 off 42, including 11 sixes, and achieved his century off 39 balls in 10 overs.
Hurricanes won by seven wickets with 35 balls remaining thanks to Ben McDermott and Matthew Wade.
It was a letdown for Thunder, who got off to a strong start with to a 97-run opening partnership between Jason Sangha and captain David Warner before being held back by quicks Riley Meredith and Nathan Ellis.
Less than six months after his lifelong leadership ban was lifted, Warner failed to lead his team to victory.
Owen decimates Thunder
According to ESPNcricinfo's predictor, Thunder had a 61% chance of winning as the Hurricanes began their pursuit. After Owen's whirlwind, Hurricanes quickly became the overwhelming favorites. Owen scored 58 off 18 balls with six incredible sixes and five boundaries as the Hurricanes were 74 for 0 after four overs.
It was a brilliant move to move seam bowling all-rounder Owen from middle-lower order to opener. Owen supported his winning strategy of swinging hard and slamming the ball over unlucky fielders, saving his best for last.
Owen did not have stage fright after hitting successive boundaries in an opening over that yielded 23 runs and blasting a fast Nathan McAndrew over deep midwicket for six.
Warner went back to using left-arm spinner Tom Andrews, who was always dependable, but Owen was unfazed and hit a massive six over deep midwicket. After that, he kept hammering speedy Wes Agar as he quickly reached his half-century off 16 balls, which is the third-fastest in tournament history.
Even once the fielding limits were relaxed, he persisted in his attack without any pause. Owen eyed the fastest BBL century, which Craig Simmons scored in 2014, as ecstatic supporters chanted his name. Although he was unable to break it, he lapped up the plaudits and matched the long-standing mark to receive a standing ovation. In the eleventh over, Owen eventually fell, but the damage had already been done.
His bravery will undoubtedly garner widespread attention, from other franchise leagues to the national selectors.
Thunder's attack have no answers, Sangha tries his best
To be fair, Owen was in that zone and probably could have been stopped by several attacks. However, Thunder bowled consistently in his preferred hitting arc after getting off to a sloppy start.
They also struggled in the field, as Warner missed an opportunity to run out Owen at the bowler's end in the same sequence and Matthew Gilkes dropped opener Caleb Jewell at cover on 5.
Legspinner Tanveer Sangha was the only bright spot of the season; he bowled well after rejoining the team following an injury and ended the season impressively. To offer Thunder hope before he was overtaken by the Owen show, he claimed Jewell and Nikhil Chaudhary in the eighth over.
Ellis hauls Hurricanes back with superb slower deliveries
Though nothing worked in Thunder's first ten overs, the Hurricanes' varied assault has proved equally vital despite being overshadowed by their aggressive batting order. Warner and Sangha launched an avalanche at spinners Peter Hatzoglou and Chaudhary, who had been so frugal this season, while Meredith was counterattacked with the new ball.
The Hurricanes took advantage of the drinks break, and Ellis took it upon himself to get his team back into the game. He accomplished this by nicking off Warner and then using his signature slower delivery to totally fool Gilkes on the following ball.
Sam Billings cautiously drove just short of mid-off, giving Ellis a chance to clinch a hat-trick, but Ellis kept making an impression. In the fifteenth over, he made the right move by deploying Meredith, who clean bowled Billings with a brilliant yorker to support the decision. Ellis' outstanding performance in the final overs, which saw him dismiss Sangha with yet another slower delivery just before the power surge, demonstrated why he is right on the periphery of Australia's white-ball squads. After that, he gave up just six runs in the power surge's second over, finishing a fantastic season with 3 for 23 from 4 overs.
Sangha and Warner silence crowd initially
Warner was the center of attention, but at first Jason Sangha, who was just playing in his third BBL game of the season, took center stage. In the Challenger, he strengthened a depleted Thunder batting order by making an impact at the top of the order against the Sydney Sixers.
In the third over, Sangha pursued Meredith after a cautious start. In the qualifying final, Meredith had upset the Sixers' top order, but Sangha chose to fight fire with fire. He smashed a boundary through backward point after rocking on the back foot and hitting a six over deep square. For the second time this season, Thunder went through the powerplay without taking a wicket. After the fielding limits were relaxed, Warner joined in on Sangha's 30 of 40 runs. He was creative, sweeping seamer Chris Jordan over the gully after reverse lapping Hatzoglou. Warner's running was a standout; he moved between the wickets with a quickness that belied his advanced age.
As they advanced to refreshments with Thunder at 97 for 0, Warner and Sangha kept combining placement and power. However, Thunder's lack of batting depth was shown, and they were unable to leverage their platform. In the final over, Chris Green contributed two crucial boundaries, but it was eventually insufficient.

Durbar Rajshahi in Damage Control Mode, Apologize and Promise Payment After Players' Outrage in BPL
BPL 2025: Chaos erupted in Chattogram as Durbar Rajshahi cancelled their training session on January 15 during the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25 (BPL 2024-25). The players refused to train, protesting against Durbar Rajshahi after being frustrated and disheartened with salary delays.
The Bangladesh Premier League franchise owner, Shafiq Rahman, delayed payment dates several times, forcing players to stage protests. Durbar Rajshahi players informed the management of their decision to skip training with the franchise, stating the team had "opted for a rest day."

Rajshahi Players refuse to train over payment delays during the BPL 2024-25
But the truth is that the local players had boycotted training after not receiving their payment for weeks. It is being said that the overseas players and coaching staff received 25% of their total fees after January 6, but the Bangladeshi players were forced to struggle for salaries in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25 (BPL 2024-25).
After the matter became public, following the local players opting to boycott the practice session, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed consulted with the board directors in a Zoom meeting and later visited the team hotel to discuss the situation with Rajshahi owner Shafique Rahman, captain Anamul Haque, and several other players.
The protest worked in favor of Bangladeshi players, as the Durbar Rajshahi franchise apologized for delaying payments and promised to pay 50% of the fees by January 16. After this, the Rajshahi players returned to practice on Thursday (January 16), with only the star Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed missing due to workload management.

Durbar Rajshahi apologizes and promises 50% payment after player protest in the BPL 2024-25
Meanwhile, Jayed Ahmed, the operation in charge of the franchise, publicly apologized for the payment delays but clarified that the players didn’t cancel the practice session because of the payment issue. He revealed that some players stayed in Dhaka for rest before the whole squad arrived in Chattogram, and that’s why they rested the team management, coaches, and players.
According to Cricbuzz, Jayed Ahmed in an official statement: “We are committed from the team management to all cricketers that we will pay them by January 16, and the not practicing is not related to it. They will get the payment by January 16, and there is no doubt about it.”
The Durbar Rajshahi official signed off by saying, “We were late in giving the payment, and we cannot deny it, and we apologize to everyone for it because this shouldn't have been the case. We are giving the payment tomorrow (Thursday), while the next two days are government holidays, and so we will give 25 percent in cash while the rest 25 percent is through a cheque, and we will pay off 50 percent by tomorrow.”

Rajshahi franchise faces backlash as checks bounce and players bear their own costs during BPL 2024-25
On the other hand, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Governing Council has already set a clear payment schedule for franchises: 50% of players' total fees must be paid before the tournament, 25% during it, and the remaining 25% after the competition.
On January 9, the checks for some of their local players bounced as reported by ESPNCricinfo, and the players threatened the franchise with a walkout before their January 10 game against Khulna Tigers. Darbar Rajshahi team owner Shafique Rahman promised payment by January 14, but he once again failed to meet his promise in the ongoing BPL 2024-25.
Additionally, the Rajshahi players were forced to bear their own costs from January 5 to 11 after the franchise had not made daily allowance payments in the tournament.

[ad_1] PC – Jio Cinema Bengaluru Mumbai – 120 all out. Jammu and Kashmir reduced to 174 for 7 at stumps in the same Ranji Trophy game. Vidarbha ended up with just 165 while Rajasthan could muster 101 for 5 at stumps. Madhya Pradesh were snuffed out for 160 against Kerala. Meanwhile, Haryana were cleaned up for just 157 by Bengal. Last, but not least, Punjab finished up with their lowest-ever Ranji Trophy total (55) while facing Karnataka. With most of those low scores, there was one connecting point – grassy decks that tend to stay low. Now, the main argument in favour of such tracks would be that it acts as the foundation stone for the young batters to prepare for future challenges outside of Asia. Unfortunately, most of these pitches stay on the lower side, so the conditions aren’t exactly replicated. For instance, on Day 1 itself, the Mumbai-Jammu and Kashmir game witnessed 8 of the batters losing their wickets via the LBW or bowled modes of dismissal. One more example would be the Bihar-Bengal game held last season where out of Mukesh Kumar’s 10 wickets, six of them came via lbw or bowled. The batters also wouldn’t get the opportunity to build their muscle memory of playing on turning decks. Sometimes, it is difficult to blame a batter like Sarfaraz Khan when he gets out in a curious fashion to Mitchell Santner, in Pune, as a sizeable portion of the decks in India’s premier first-class competition favour seam bowling. Such conditions also bring into play military medium pacers who bowl at around 120 kph. All that a pacer needs to do in such climes is to zoom the ball on the stumps and wait for the pitch to do the rest. It could also result in very little old-ball swing and the spinners wouldn’t have much of a role. It shouldn’t come as a major surprise that since the emergence of Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, India have kind of struggled to produce pace bowlers who have fine-tuned the art of using the crease and generating old-ball swing. Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh had once said this about tracks in the Ranji Trophy. “We shouldn’t leave so much grass where even a 120-kph bowler appears like Malcolm Marshall,” he was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “It is okay if someone bowling 120 looks like 125 but he shouldn’t appear unplayable. Our wickets make such bowlers look unplayable.” Ironically, the track that had only a smattering of grass in the latest round of Ranji Trophy – Chinnaswamy – saw Punjab being shot out for just 55, which also turned out to be their lowest score in the tournament’s history. So, what went wrong there? A substantial portion of the batters were tentative as they kept edging deliveries to the slip cordon. It is true that the deck offered just enough nip in the first hour. And a little more bounce than expected. The Karnataka pace trio of V Koushik, Abhilash Shetty and Prasidh Krishna also hardly gave anything away. Prasidh consistently extracting a fair amount of bounce from a slightly fuller length might have also gladdened the hearts of the Indian backroom staff. But Karnataka’s pace battery was also helped by some poor batting. Shubman Gill, the star attraction, was one of them: His airy-fairy poke resulted in his dismissal for just four runs. Karnataka put Punjab’s insipid effort into perspective by notching up 199 for the loss of only four wickets at stumps. From the above-mentioned lines, it could be asserted that not all of those low totals were due to the conditions. But the Karnataka-Punjab game seems more like an exception to the rule. The larger picture remains the same – A plethora of decks in the Ranji Trophy comprise a good covering of grass and tend to stay on the lower side. Is it helping in grooming the youngsters coming through the junior ranks? Perhaps not. The fixtures for the fifth season of the Hundred have been announced by the ECB, with the tournament set to open with a double-header between London rivals London Spirit and Oval Invincibles at Lord's on August 5.Invincibles, the defending men's champions, and Spirit, the defending women's champions, are also expected to be the most sought-after franchises in the Hundred equity sale, which gets underway on Thursday, when Invincibles and Birmingham Phoenix are the first teams to go under the hammer. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, this year's tournament avoids a clash with Major League Cricket, the US-based tournament that will be entering its own third season in 2025. The Hundred final is set to take place on August 31, also at Lord's, with the Eliminator slated for The Oval on August 30.For the first time this season, direct signings have been permitted in both the men's and women's competitions, with Laura Wolvaardt and Amelia Kerr the first to have been recruited in that fashion, as they join Southern Brave and Manchester Originals respectively.Charlie Dean, who has been retained by London Spirit after her role in last year's title win, said: "August is fast becoming one of the best months of the summer. The Hundred has developed into an excellent competition, we play in front of fantastic crowds and even from the middle you get a sense of how the crowd is so full of families and young people."The cricket itself is high quality, the format is accessible and quick, and we're all really looking forward to getting back to it and hopefully defending our title."Oval Invincibles' captain, Sam Billings, who is also seeking to defend the title, added: "It will be great to kick off The Hundred with a sold-out derby at Lord's. From our point of view, we're looking to start strongly as we have done the last couple of years to set the tone for another positive year. No doubt it will be a brilliant atmosphere at Lord's."It was another fantastic tournament last year, we've worked hard at the Invincibles to build a really strong core and there's no reason why we can't have another great year. The Kia Oval is undoubtedly one of the best places in world cricket to play, our home support is special. We all hope we can build on the last couple of years and keep the trophy in South London."Season tickets for previous holders will be on sale from today, while an exclusive window for previous attendees will be open from March 4-18. Priority sales will be from April 1-15, before tickets go on general release from April 17.

Sanjay Manjrekar Sarfaraz Khan Was Unfairly Dropped
Sanjay Manjrekar has criticized the decision to drop Sarfaraz Khan from the Indian team, calling it unfair. He believes Sarfaraz’s impressive domestic performances should have secured him more opportunities, instead of being replaced by KL Rahul. / Sarfaraz’s Performances and Exclusion Sarfaraz earned his place in the Indian team after a string of strong domestic scores. He scored 200 runs in three matches during the England Tests, including three fifties, and later hit his maiden Test century against New Zealand in Bengaluru. However, a dip in form led to his exclusion from the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Manjrekar’s Concerns Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar expressed disappointment at how Sarfaraz’s case was handled. He pointed out that players like Abhimanyu Easwaran were also judged prematurely based on warm-up performances. “When we discussed the first Test, I said it shouldn’t be as simple as dropping Sarfaraz Khan for KL Rahul,” Manjrekar remarked. “There was too much preemption. Cricket often throws surprises, and we shouldn’t judge players so quickly.” Manjrekar emphasized that Sarfaraz’s exceptional first-class cricket record deserved recognition. He felt the team management should have given him more time to adapt and rewarded his consistency. Rewarding Consistency “Sarfaraz Khan earned his spot through his first-class performances, including three fifties and a 150. Dropping him after one poor Test was not fair,” Manjrekar said. “Even if there were concerns about certain pitches, he might have adapted. We’ve seen how he performed against England. It’s essential to reward players who score runs consistently.” Sarfaraz’s Stats So far, Sarfaraz has accumulated 371 runs from 11 innings, averaging 37.10. Despite the criticism surrounding his exclusion, his domestic record highlights his potential to contribute to the team.
