⟢ ┈ 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 | 1.6k
⟢ ┈ 𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 | (request for my lovely jo, @wanderlusturous) you, a hotheaded wnba star and your equally chaotic courtside boyfriend luka dončić take turns being menaces on and off the court, earning the title of Crash Out Couple with every tech, shove, and courtside screamfest
⟢ ┈ 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 | banter, luka being an instigator, it's kinda cute
Tumblr media
The first time you meet Luka, he’s not quite a household name yet—but he’s well on his way. The smirk, the aura, the almost reckless abandon with which he commands the court—it’s all there. You’re sitting at a bar in Manhattan after a grueling Liberty practice, sipping on some overpriced cocktail that tastes like regret and stale citrus, when he strolls in, all easy confidence and mischief. You’re vaguely aware of who he is—because, duh, basketball—but you don’t care. Not about his growing fame. Not about the headlines that tend to follow him like a stray dog.
At first, it’s just banter. He comments on the Liberty cap perched on your head like he knows something. You volley back, sharp and unbothered, because you’re you, and nobody gets to talk slick without catching a little heat. You don't even realize you're flirting until he pulls out that grin, all teeth and menace, and asks for your number like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
You give it to him—mostly because you’re intrigued by the audacity.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Fast-forward a couple of years, and the “Crash Out Couple” is practically an ESPN institution. You’d roll your eyes at the nickname if it weren’t so hilariously accurate. You, with your unapologetic on-court antics, and Luka, with his penchant for egging on entire benches, were practically made for each other. There’s a viral video that resurfaces every few months, some grainy courtside footage of Luka heckling refs while you jaw at a six-foot-four forward breathing down your neck. The caption reads, “Soulmates.” You both pretend to hate it, but the truth is, you kind of love it.
The media has their narrative: the fiery, unrelenting WNBA star and the NBA's most charming troublemaker. But what they don’t see is how it started—how the two of you fit together in a way that no one else ever really could.
Before you were dubbed half of the league’s favorite chaotic duo, you were just a girl with a chip on your shoulder and a game so good that even your doubters had to sit down and shut up. You grew up on New York asphalt, weaving through defenders who didn’t care if you were 13 or 30. You’d seen it all—trash talk, cheap shots, elbows that left bruises—and you didn’t just survive it; you thrived in it. You weren’t Sabrina Ionescu good in college—you were Sabrina Ionescu-adjacent, a little grittier, a little rougher around the edges.
By the time the Liberty scooped you up, you’d already perfected the art of letting people underestimate you. On the court, you were all business—sharp elbows, sharper words. Off the court, you weren’t much different.
And Luka? He had the same energy, just dressed up in a European accent and a billion-dollar smile.
So when the two of you finally crossed paths, it wasn’t fireworks or love at first sight or any of that fairytale nonsense. It was a slow build, a series of exchanges that started as friendly competition and escalated into something neither of you could ignore. You pushed him; he pushed back. You taunted; he laughed. And when the time came, he showed up for you the way you didn’t even realize you needed.
The arena hums with energy, a pulsing beat of chatter, sneakers squeaking on hardwood, and the occasional blare of the PA system announcing players warming up. You’re on the court, loose-limbed and laser-focused, bouncing a ball between your hands as the Liberty logo gleams under the bright lights. The crowd’s a blur, faces blending together, but you know exactly where Luka is without looking.
He’s courtside, leaned back like he’s sitting on his own throne, wearing that damn smile that always means trouble. He’s dressed low-key—a hoodie and jeans—but the way he carries himself, you’d think he was the one suiting up to play.
“You look nervous,” he calls out, loud enough for half the court to hear.
You roll your eyes, dribbling lazily as you make your way toward him. “Why would I be nervous? You’re not the one guarding me.”
He raises an eyebrow, feigning offense. “That’s a shame. I’d shut you down in five minutes.”
“Five?” you fire back, smirking now. “I’d have you in foul trouble in two.”
The assistant coach whistles sharply, breaking the moment as you’re called back into the fold. You turn, already putting him out of your mind, but not before Luka leans forward, his voice following you.
“Just don’t get ejected, okay? I want my money’s worth.”
You don’t look back, but your grin gives you away.
The game starts, and it’s clear from the jump that they’re gunning for you. You’re no stranger to being a target, but tonight it feels personal. Every time you touch the ball, there’s a defender glued to you—sometimes two, sometimes three. They’re in your face, hands swiping, shoulders digging into you on every drive.
It’s annoying, but you don’t let it show. Not yet.
You’re still finding your rhythm when the first cheap shot comes—an elbow to your ribs during a fast break. You stumble, barely, and the ref doesn’t call it. Luka is on his feet instantly, arms raised as he shouts something in Slovenian that’s definitely not family-friendly.
You wave him off with a quick glance and grit your teeth, setting up on the next possession. They want to frustrate you, throw you off your game. Fine. Two can play that.
By the second quarter, it’s obvious they’re not letting up. A hard screen sends you sprawling, and when you get up, your expression is thunderous. The forward who set the screen smirks, muttering something you can’t hear but understand perfectly. You take a step toward her, jaw tight, but your teammates pull you back before the whistle can blow.
From the corner of your eye, you catch Luka laughing, leaning into the drama like it’s his own personal soap opera. He’s clapping now, shouting something about “that’s my girl!”
It’s all fuel. Every shove, every sneer, every comment—you take it, you feed on it, and you channel it into the next play. You cut through the defense with surgical precision, drawing fouls and making them pay. By halftime, you’ve put up enough points to silence most of the chirping.
But Luka? Luka’s louder than ever.
When the buzzer sounds, you jog off the court toward the locker room, passing by Luka on your way. He’s waiting, still grinning like he’s enjoying this more than anyone else in the building.
“Having fun yet?” he teases, leaning over the railing.
You stop, towel slung over your shoulder, and level him with a look. “Oh, I’m just getting started.”
He throws his head back, laughing, and for a second, you forget how much your ribs hurt.
By the time the third quarter starts, you’re running on pure adrenaline. Your body aches, your jersey clings to your skin, and the defenders are still swarming you like vultures over a carcass. But you’ve got that look in your eye—the one that tells everyone, including Luka, that you’re done playing nice.
They keep testing you, and you keep answering. Elbow jabs in the paint? Fine, you’ll fight through them. Double teams in the corner? Bring it on. But there’s only so much a person can take before they hit their breaking point.
And that point comes when you drive to the basket, slipping past one defender before the next one—a towering forward with about four inches and twenty pounds on you—steps into your path. She doesn’t go for the ball. Instead, she throws her shoulder into you with enough force to send you stumbling back.
The ref blows the whistle, finally calling the foul, but you barely hear it over the rush of blood in your ears.
The forward grins, smug, like she’s gotten away with something. And that’s it. You snap.
Without thinking, you shove her—hard. Hard enough that her sneakers screech against the hardwood as she stumbles back a few steps, eyes wide with shock. The crowd erupts into chaos, the kind of noise that rattles your bones.
She comes back at you immediately, barking something that you don’t catch because your teammates are already between you, dragging you back while her team does the same. The refs are blowing their whistles like it’s a lifeline, trying to regain control.
And Luka? He’s on his feet, losing his mind.
“That’s what I’m talking about!” he yells, clapping his hands so loud you can hear it over the chaos. “Push her again! She deserved it!”
You glance his way, and the sight of him is almost enough to make you laugh. Almost. He’s leaning so far over the railing it looks like he might climb onto the court, his hoodie halfway off, gesturing wildly as he yells something in Slovenian that probably translates to “start the fight!”
The announcers are having a field day. The crowd is on their feet. Social media is already typing up their captions.
But you? You’re still locked in, eyes blazing as you stare down your defender, silently daring her to come at you again.
The refs eventually restore order, handing out double techs for good measure, but the damage is done. The entire arena is buzzing, and you can feel the shift in momentum.
You walk back to the bench, chin high, and when you sit down, Luka catches your eye again. He’s grinning like he’s never been prouder in his life.
“You really gave them their money’s worth,” he calls out, voice practically dripping with pride.
You grab a water bottle, smirking despite yourself. “You’re welcome.”
The rest of the game plays out like a blur. The other team never quite recovers, and the Liberty take the win. By the time the final buzzer sounds, your name is trending, along with Luka’s, under the now-iconic title: Crash Out Couple.

Oscar Palmer Robertson (November 24, 1938) nicknamed “The Big O”, is a retired basketball player who played for the Cincinnati Royals and Milwaukee Bucks. He played point guard and was a 12-time All-Star, 11-time member of the All-NBA Team, and one-time winner of the MVP award in 14 seasons. In 1962, he became the first player in NBA history to average a triple-double for a season. In the 1970–71 NBA season, he was a key player on the team that brought the Bucks their only NBA title to date. His playing career, especially during high school and college, was plagued by racism.
He is a two-time Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, having been inducted in 1980 for his career, and in 2010 as a member of the 1960 US men’s Olympic basketball team and president of the National Basketball Players Association. He was voted one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996. The US Basketball Writers Association renamed their College Player of the Year Award the Oscar Robertson Trophy in his honor in 1998, and he was one of five people chosen to represent the inaugural National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame class in 2006. He was ranked as the 36th best American athlete of the 20th century by ESPN.
He was an integral part of Robertson v. National Basketball Ass’n of 1970. The landmark NBA antitrust suit, which was filed when he was the president of the NBA Players’ Association, led to an extensive reform of the league’s strict free agency and draft rules and higher salaries for all players. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence #kappaalphapsi

Maybe A League of Their Own was doomed to strike out. A passion project in all senses of the word, it was a reboot hell-bent on showing the queer lives in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League that never made it into the 1992 movie. More succinctly, it was the kind of reimagining (long-form, prestige-y, tapping into an existing niche fanbase) that often only gets a shot thanks to a deep-pocketed streamer. It got to play one season. Last spring, Amazon Prime Video renewed it for a truncated second one. Last Friday, that plug got pulled; Amazon pointed the finger at the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes.
Abbi Jacobson, the Broad City star who co-created the series, hit Instagram to say that blaming the cancelation on the strikes was “bullshit and cowardly,” but the fact remains: The show’s life on Prime Video is over. Amazon also canceled the second season of the William Gibson adaptation The Peripheral, despite having renewed it back in February. Hollywood is a ruthless business, no matter which network or streamer a show calls home.
When the world looks back in, say, 30 years, the halcyon days of streaming will be looked upon as optimistic and fleeting—a time when Silicon Valley largesse meant Amazon would drop hundreds of millions of dollars on the Tolkien adaptation Rings of Power and Netflix would back money trucks up to Shonda Rhimes’ house so she could develop Bridgerton. In all likelihood, those kinds of deals will still exist in 2053, but as competition in the streaming space gets tighter, the moonshot projects will likely be fewer and the emphasis on return-on-investment will only increase.
This writing has been on the wall for a while, but got reinforced this week when The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that streamers are increasingly guiding users to ad-supported versions of their services, largely by increasing the cost of their ad-free tiers. Earlier this month, Disney announced that the cost per month of Disney+ and Hulu would be going up three bucks. Paramount+ swapped its $10 ad-free plan for a $12 one that includes Showtime. Netflix offers a $7/month ad-backed plan and a premium one that costs more than $15. Peacock, in July, upped the price of its ad-supported version by one dollar and its ad-free iteration by two.
As long foretold, this all just seems like streaming becoming the new cable TV. Now that there are more streaming services than there used to be network television stations, people are trying to save money on all those subscriptions. If ads help them do that, so be it.
But if every streamer is just a TV network, or some sort of modern-day HBO-in-the-'90s equivalent, that could leave content like The Peripheral or A League of Their Own in the lurch. Advertisers want to know they’re reaching eyeballs, and shows with small, albeit devoted, fanbases may not be the ones to lure those ad execs in. Once again, any show that isn’t at the level of a Seinfeld or Cheers may only get a season or two. The prestige stuff could still go to networks like Showtime or HBO, networks that traditionally got away with more because they didn’t have to worry about advertisers, but even HBO—and its streaming home Max—is run by someone who comes from Discovery and, as The New Yorker detailed this week, has become a “Hollywood antihero.”
There’s also the matter of live sports. For years, live sports has been the thing that has kept fans from fully cutting cable cords. But as Hulu, Amazon, YouTube, Apple, and others have moved to incorporate sports into their offerings, the necessity of getting ESPN or something like NBA League Pass via cable subscription has gone down. That’s cool and all, but it also means those wanting to follow the NFL now do so via a half-dozen networks, including Prime Video. And advertisers are following them.
This is what we mean when we say no one is winning the streaming wars. It’s not that one day there won’t be streaming services, or that just one or two will dominate, it’s that eventually mergers, consolidations, and spinoffs will leave viewers choosing between a handful of channels they really want, just like they chose cable packages in the past. All the networks will be vying to offer the most-viewed content, not niche shows like Minx. Maybe the Hollywood strikes will end and streamers, which are bargaining alongside the studios, will start paying the same residuals networks do. Maybe Apple will buy Disney after all. Maybe no one will be in their own league.

%%title%% WNBA Star A’ja Wilson Blasts Caitlin Clark’s Endorsements, Plays the Race Card May 13,2024
"There is one big reason that Clark had an edge over other long-time WNBA stars. As Fox Sports noted, Clark has had the benefit of big-dollar name, image and likeness (NIL) deals that college athletes are now allowed to sign. So, Clark already has deals with advertisers, deals and contacts that others did not have.
Clark is not alone in having this advantage. Her college rival, LSU's Angel Reese, and LSU teammate Flau’jae Johnson, both of whom are black, also have these deals.
But beyond all this, Clark is an amazing talent and it is her talent that brought her such recognition. Not her race. If Clark was a middling player, but was still being showered with praise, maybe Wilson and the detractors would have a point. But Clark now has some of the top college records in history. And she has earned them."

National Disgrace
The current discourse around Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese is the most overtly racist sh*t I've seen since the Magic/Bird nonsense from when i was a kid. LSU beat the sh*t out of Iowa on the way to their first title. Caitlin Clark was in foul trouble the entire time, which means she was outplayed the entire game. Some of that was probably fatigue but that just speaks to the athletic ability, conditioning savvy, and overall depth on that LSU team. No shade toward Caitlin, ma is bad as f*ck. Game recognize game, which is why she hasn't said a f*cking thing about Reese. Caitlin knows she f*cked up. Caitlin knows her team was outplayed. She knows that sh*t talking comes with the game. She knows it so well, in fact, she did the EXACT same thing not two days before, literally for the SAME goddamn reason! Iowa was thumping that Louisville ass!
It’s wild seeing all of these old white men get on television or the internet or in print, and bash a twenty year old black woman over a gesture because the second coming of Larry Bird but with a vagina, got embarrassed on the biggest stage. LSU absolutely dog-walked Iowa to the tune of a seventeen point win. If I'm not mistaken, when Iowa was up fifteen on Louisville, Caitlin told Hailey Van Lith to shut up. ESPN did a whole thing about Clark being the “Queen of Clapbacks.” And rightfully so. Caitlin Clark is a beast. Absolute unit. Ma was putting up historic stat lines all goddamn year. When you win as much as she does, when you dominate like she does, you talk all that sh*t. Why is it so egregious now that Reese has her spot at the top? I’ve heard it’s about sportsmanship, that Clark did the same gesture during a game and not after the W. Why does when the taunt happen, matter? Clark and Iowa got outplayed. LSU was the better team. Angel Reese was the better player. In that moment, for that game, Caitlin couldn’t see Angel and ma let her know about it. Fair is fair.
But this ain’t about the game, which was amazing by the way. This is about how black athletes are perceived in the media. It’s about mask off, blatant racism. Whenever a white athlete does something like this, whenever they get into their feelings and start chirping back and forth, it’s passion. It’s love for the game. Whenever a black athlete does it, it’s disrespectful. It’s thug behavior. It’s disgraceful. White athletes are praised for their leadership, maturity, and intellect. Black athletes are praised for their athletic ability. He can throw far. She can run fast. They told Lamar Jackson to switch to Receiver. The NFL didn’t believe he could lead a team. They questioned his decision making in the pocket. Why? Cats praise Tom Brady for his passion and commitment to the game. Mans yelled at teammates, opponents, and coaches alike. That’s fine. Odell Beckham does a little dance in the end zone and he’s a diva, a primadonna, a problem. Why? What’s the difference, other than the color of his skin?
It’s f*cked up I'm sitting here making this post about some noise outside of the court because, f*ck, that was a game. The narratives around this title were brilliant. The play was inspired. The competition was wonderful. History was made. But none of that matters because a bunch of assholes decided to label a black woman disgraceful for being passionate about a game she’s played her entire f*cking life. Angel Reese beat the best player in Woman’s Collegiate Basketball, to stand on top of that pile as a National Champion. For women, that’s their NBA Finals. That’s the brightest their star will shine and, right now, LSU’s is shining brilliantly. They earned that. They get to talk all the sh*t they want. They are sitting on that throne right now. Lost in all of this ridiculous white noise is the fact that, if Iowa would have won, Caitlin would very realistically be talking the most sh*t. She is the Queen of Clapbacks after all. Bet no one would have anything to say at that point, if that situation came to pass, probably because she would have won the title, Bragging rights come hand-in-hand with victory. Well, Iowa was the one who got that ass thumped by LSU and Angel Reese. Let the National Champions talk they sh*t! They literally earned it!

Check out who your favorite celebs are rooting for...

He supports John Kasich and said, ""I went to see him at an L.A. town meeting, which is usually a very liberal forum ... He talked about poor people -- the underprivileged and the working poor. Charles Barkley
On ESPN's "Mike & Mike Show" former NBA star Charles Barkley said of Republican John Kasich, "He's the only person that I'm really paying attention to right now, to be honest with you." Though Barkley admitted to usually voting Republican he said, "there's not a Democrat in the race that I like."

Week 5 Alien movie by Ronnie Bitzer
The movie I watched this week was Alien which was created in 1979 directed by Ridely Scott. The significance the movie had on me was the elements of horror the amount of realism it had and the evolution of the Alien through the different franchises of new Alien movies being made. The significance the movie may have on others is introducing them into a world filled with scifi horror and elements of realism. Interesting facts about the movie was it met with mixed reviews, then it was considered a box office success winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Affects, and three Saturn awards for Best Science Fiction Film,Best Direction for Scott and Best Supporting Actress for Cartwright. The movie is similar to Predator and how both the Alien and Predator's main intentions were to kill. The movie was different from Star Wars since they are in space but they aren't going to different planets nor are there light sabers. The movie was inspired by The Texas Chainsaw Massacre since it has all the pinpoints of a slasher classic, not knowing who the killer is and each of the crew mates are dying except for one. I believe what the textbook says about the movie was true and does depict scifi with pieces of horror. Critics say about how they like how gory and mesmerizing the movie is and how Ridley Scott hybridized the horror and scifi genres and made them into a new sub genre. One critic I agree with is she talked about how Alien redefined the Sci-Fi genre for generations of moviegoers and became the pinnacle of all other movies had to live up to or surpass it and how its similar to Star Wars but add a splash of horror and its similar to Texas Chainsaw Massacre and you have a movie like no other Sci-Fi film.
What was happening during the release of Alien was
1. ESPN(Entertainment and Sports Programming Network) television network is launched on cable television at 7pm eastern time on September 7th 1979.The network was created by Bill and Scott Rasmussen along with Ed Eagen as a channel dedicated to true sports fans.Within a year the network became a 24/7 television service and within a few more years it gained rights to broadcast games for the NBA. ESPN was soon purchased by ABC in 1984 and it blossomed into the powerhouse network it has become today, a popular source for sports news and exclusive sports events.
2. Voyager 1 photo reveals Jupiter's rings:
Voyager 1 spacecraft was launched in September of 1977 with the mission of gathering information on Jupiter and exploring the outer edges of the solar system. On March 5th of 1979 Voyager 1 made its closest approach to Jupiter and made observations of its moons, rings, radiation and magnetic fields of the solar system's largest planet. Voyager 1 is still exploring space and in 2012 of August the spacecraft entered interstellar space and will continue exploring indefinetly.
https://www.thepeoplehistory.com/1979.htmlLinks to an external site.
The debate that circles around Alien is whether or not Alien is better than Aliens or if Aliens is better than Alien but two of the movies were different Alien genre was horror Scifi while the Aliens movie got rid of the horror and was scifi action.Although the debate was over and Alien won despite the fact that the only similarity between the two movies was dealing with the alien monster and the heroine.
The look and feel of the film is eerie and suspenseful and the style of the film is realism making everything seem realistic. General type of the story is a group of astronauts coming back to Earth realizing someone else is on board with them. The significance of the story is by bringing the impossibilities in life and making them seem possible to procure. Two particular shots that stand out to me in the film is facehugger scene.
youtube
This scene is important because it teaches us that the facehugger is using the host so it can be able to reproduce and create the alien.Another scene that stood out to me is the chestburster scene
youtube
this scene is important because it shows the gestation of the alien and how the alien is born and how it turns from little to big in a matter of minutes. The difference between Alien and other movies is the use of realism, blended genres of scifi and horror and use of special effects.
Alien is specific to its culture with the use of little technology, for the facehugger scene they use props instead of using CGI and the actors not knowing what was all going to happen relates to the suspense of the film. The movie relates to Hofstedes model by the use of the uncertainty avoidance model by the crew finding a way to avoid getting killed off by the alien. Trompeenars model by neutral vs effective and how each character has different ways of expressing emotion when faced with the alien. What is shown in the Alien film is the ship planets the crew and the birth of the alien. How it is shown through the use of special effects realism and the use of props.Shown through the use of global by the use of the film in a different languages and the use of a diverse crowd of actors. If the movie were coming to my premise the only thing I would change to the movie is using my family and friends as actors and leaving the movie as it is.The story fits into national styles is the use of realism and special effects making everything around the movie seeming to happen in real life and its not imaginary.
The movie is considered unconventional since the main character is a female. Alien was considered a big hit it made a profit of 184.7 million dollars.Alien was clear and easy to understand, there were no scenes that made me confused or felt off.The pieces do fit together all neatly talking about the journey, the alien and what the real mission is for the astronauts.Alien does have a smiliar story to Predator since it has the same plot as Alien the only difference is the location since Alien takes place in space, Predator takes place on Earth.
