Hello! If it's not too troublesome, I'd like to request a head cannon/reaction to all the TF2 mercs with a partner super sensitive to touch!, specific around the neck, back and hips!

disclaimer: as someone who hc's pyro as aroace, i will be making their's platonic... i hope this is alright! but if you were especially looking forward to pyro's, i can make an edit or two to fix that for ya.

scout:

personally, i see scout being a very physical lover. (nothing sexual, just light touches, holding your hand, leaning against you, etc.)

so, when he found out you were sensitive to his touch, he LOVED it.

he especially loves how much of a reaction it gets out of you, really.

whenever you're on the battlefield, he'll most definitely run past you (only if you're in the safe) and graze your lower back.

one time he even started to backpedal as soon as he did so, all to just see your reaction... he loves it!

in the romantic aspect of it, anyway.

once you two, and a few other mercs, were participating in a good ol' arm wrestling contest

so far, heavy has won (quite obviously)... but he was voted out pretty fast since it was mad unfair (we love you tho, sorry heavy)

but, the person who was winning so far was soldier... and scout had failed miserably against him for the 20th time

"that's dumb! i won fair and square! he just cheated, did ja' see that?!"

scout went flexing for a good 2 minutes before it came up to you

soldier saw you approach and he had the DUMMBBESSSTT SMILE ON HIS FACE

his heart melts to honey whenever he sees you I swear

but anyway

it was your turn and you had quite a determined expression on your face

you were hand-in-hand and the other mercs were shouting for either one of you

while the mix of chorals of cheers were sung in the room, you had mustered just about all your strength to slam his fist into the table

but when he noticed you, he was asking what was wrong... but you just shrugged it away and tried to hide your face

when he asked you why you were, you explained it to him... and he very bluntly asked if he could keep touching you like that (ONLY IF YOU LIKED IT! if you don't, he made it his sworn duty to give you your space!!)

if you agreed and said it was alright, he'd find ways to just hold ya :)

again, to me, pyro is aroace! meaning, i don't see pyro being in a romantic nor sexual relationship with anyone.

but they LOVE physical touch

they love hugs, leaning against you, or just holding your hand

but when you two were on the field, on a particularly hot day, there was a fly claimed on your neck.

their immediate thought is to help! so, with those big gloves of theirs, they graze your neck to successfully drive the pest away! woohoo!!! but also... why were you so flushed?

"mmph, mphhr, mphr!?" worried they might've done something wrong, they asked what was the matter/if you were okay.

understanding the tone in their voice, you waved your hand in a 'don't worry about it' manner... but you ended up explaining your sensitivities.

and whether you like physical touch or not, pyro holds your hand/tries their best to keep their distance the best they can

(and if you don't like it, sometimes engineer has to remind pyro (they forget sometimes)... but they mean so well!!!!!!)

one time you were in a pretty deep conversation with pyro, listening closely and intently to every word they spoke

but you were also in the way of the hallway... engineer swiftly laid a hand on your back, whispering a small: "'Scuse me, honey bee..." before slipping past the two of you

engineer noticed the way your eyes darting elsewhere, the flushed cheeks and your biting your lip... it was obvious you were very sensitive to his touch

and if you didn't show him you disliked it otherwise (and if you did, he'd most definitely stop doing it without your permission or desire to) he'd keep finding ways to touch you

sniper likes his space... we all know this

the guy is a loner! of course he's touch starved and touch puts him into overdrive!

but when you guys started dating, he eased more into the whole physical touch aspect of it

small things like shoulder-to-shoulder, hand-in-hand, all that goodness... but he decided to take a small leap

you two were sitting in the rec room... he was laid back in his seat with you beside and separate from his chair.

his hand snaked up your back and started to caress the back of your neck

almost immediately pulled back when you let out a small yelp

whenever you're in the room with the two you can't even ignore the obvious deadly tension the two had even if you tried to, you can't imagine how people in the news assume they're in love with eachother when hae-in looked like she's about to pull jinwoo's head off his body and jinwoo is about to gut the blonde on the spot.

like is it really about you at this point? just get a room oh my god and what's worse you... you don't even see them as anything more than friends it's insane.

even if hae-in would bashfully gift you things and listen to your rants or tries to hint that she has feelings for you, every one of these things you would dodge like it was the plague

but the only problem was even if you dropped sooo many instances that you were not interested with the two, the damn duo was so persistent that it's genuinely tiring you out like what was it with you that was intriguing?? you're literally a low profile office worker within the association that showed the two a semblance of human decency are they that deprived of love?

like at some point you were (forcibly) hanging out with the two and they were bantering once again over you before they both turned their heads to your direction which honestly creeped you out then finally asking who did you prefer.

"[y.name]! please tell me you prefer a girl like me and not this awfully depressing dressed up loser!" hae-in glared at jinwoo while barking out her words that was definitely an attack to jinwoo's way of fashion

"wha— the hell? my fashion isn't that bad you asshole- oh whatever ignore her [y.name] I'm obviously more desirable" jinwoo deadpanned as he ignored hae-in's glare.

you looked at the two with tired eyes, dreadfully done with their bullshit before declaring your answer

"oh I'd choose neither... actually is beru is an option? i think that ant is more acceptable at this point"

the reaction they had was priceless, especially jinwoo's. you prefer the damned ant?? the ant that bodied hae-in the moment it popped out of nowhere or the same ant that jinwoo obliterated with a punch...? are you serious..

if you squint closely you can notice a wisp of black shadow on jinwoo's person that had a tint of pink blush that awfully looked like an ant. you didn't know if you were seeing things but you swore that it was beru blushing over your decision.

Before realising I'm aroace I've been thinking that I'll eventually find a partner and live in my own flat, so I'll have to move from my parents to the different part of the city. It made me sad, but I assumed it would be an inevitable fate.

But after getting older and realising that I'm aroace and not so attached to other people... Like a switch was flipped. I've realised that when my parents pass away, their flat will become... Mine. Because there will be only me there. And. I don't feel negative about it. Before I thought that when the owner of the house passes away, people try to move out and sell this property, because they must buy their own home and staying in the same place where their loved one used to live will hurt them. Like it's some kind of rule.

And now sometimes I'm imagining my future adult life in my room. Because if I want to move, I'll be moving abroad (my current living situation is the best an ordinary person in my country can afford). So this place, this flat will probably be my forever home.

Nobody has ever discussed this with me. It's so strange to see options beyond society's expectations. But on the flip side, I finally can imagine my future - and I could never do that before.

Honestly I feel ya especially on the whole "my future doesn't have to be like what society dictates" part.

Moving out and owning one's own place is getting less and less realistic compared to before, so that's a whole thing, and the whole "find a partner and go 'start a life' with them" was flawed to begin with. If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it's not harming anyone around you, or yourself, is there really a point to the whole "follow the pre-traced steps" game at all? If you like where you live, and don't need a romantic partner, and could see yourself staying there forever, more power to you! I'm a person who typically doesn't like change for most things, so I find it super valid.

Personally I wound up moving out and getting into a renting-a-tiny-place loop (can't afford to buy anything or rent anything bigger either) but that's mainly because I didn't like where my parents lived and my family could afford to support me studying elsewhere until I could become independent. I quite like it now. Just so happens I also now wanna marry someone who lives in another country, despite being aroace (queerplatonic shenanigans and true vibes being true vibes), but... That's my experience and you have yours and yours sounds like it'd definitely work and would waste less time and resources than mine. If anything you're probably doing the world more of a favor than I am. 🙈

As an aroace I always wondered how it feels to be "in love" and how I realize if I am in love. I never had been or just didn't realized it but it happened that people started to tell me I would be and when I tried dating I realized pretty fast this wasn't the case and I was just feeling uncomfortable.

Since then I've been asking myself how do I know? Everytime I try to google how it feels like I just find how it feels for people who aren't on the a-spec. This is starting to drive me crazy. Especially because I'm almost 30 and everyone starts to tell me how I have to hurry and find a partner otherwise my life will be miserable because I don't have a partner and children. But what if I don't want that?

Right now I'm only putting so much preassure on myself because I'm scared of being alone later on even if I know I don't need or want such a relationship. For me it would be more than enough to live in a platonic houshold like a shared flat. All that is important for me is to have people around with whom I can talk to and spend some time with but also hide in my room alone if needed.

Yeah I don't want to live completely alone but I also don't want such a relationship and most of all I don't want kids. Just give me friends I can move in with and I'm happy.

Thinking about living with someone and have to spend 24/7 with them makes me feel so uncomfortable. I need my own space, my own room where I can go to for some me-time. I don't want to share EVERYTHING with another person and have no place to be able to retreat every now and then. It already makes me so uncomfortable when I see my parents and thinking about that this apparently is supposed to be my future. They have not a single room to themself, they have to share their bedroom, the living room, just everything and always have to make compromises how they want to set up the rooms and do stuff.

Don't get me wrong. I'm fine with doing that but again give me at least one room that's only mine and where I can do whatever and how ever I want to do things without taking another person into account and asking if this is okay with them. And I also want to make my own plans without having to ask another person first if it's okay all the time.

Sorry for the long text I just needed to rant because this bothers me for years now and it just don't seem to get better but worse and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has this problem.

In love can mean different things to different people, and it can feel differently too. I would say anyone or anything you care deeply about you can consider yourself to be in love, but this is also a term you can define for yourself. Being in love is also not something you have to experience or you have to want, some people never feel like they're in love, and that's OK too. I always feel like that ability to choose and define things for ourselves is a big part of the a-spec experience. And it can make things more difficult, but it can also be more fulfilling in the long run.

Not finding a partner by a certain age doesn't mean you're destined to be lonely or miserable. And some of the things you mention like wanting your own room/space or liking the idea of living with friends are definitely things I've heard other aros say they like too. This isn't an impossible situation, though it does involve finding your people, but people who want similar things do exist.

It sounds like you've been under a lot of pressure to fit a certain mold, or live your life a certain way. That can definitely be difficult, but know you're not alone. And that you're allowed to live your life in whatever way you feel works for you.

Summary: Life is a performance to Janus as he tries to be successful in his career, but pretending that sex or romance interests him gets to be too much sometimes. On one of the days he takes to avoid all flirting, he finds himself new friends who understand.

It was all a performance and Janus knew people never understood that. He didn't want them to understand it either, but that didn't make it any less exhausting.

Occasionally someone would almost get it, almost understand just how much was a performance, but never quite. They always believed that he was being genuine to them, or revealing who he really was to them because they were special, not because they were the type to be convinced by feeling they were different to other people. Honestly, Janus could do without people pointing out his treatment of others was all an act and ignoring the biggest act he'd ever had to perform: The romancing, the wooing, and especially the flirting to convince people to do or think how best to benefit him.

As the door to his home fell shut, Janus could only let out a heavy breath. He'd taken his bows and left the stage for the day.

It had been building up for a while, just how badly keeping this performance up constantly was making him feel, but it wasn't so simple to find spaces to let down the act. There's a hill that Janus tends to climb when he wanted to get away from people. It wasn't that nobody else went there, but usually the people who did were hiking themselves or with a group and didn't want to speak to strangers equally as much as Janus.

Since they were ahead of him on the path he could only hope to pass whatever group there was without getting noticed.

“I said I'd spend time with you, not that I'd be dragged up a mountain because of your whims.” Presumably Virgil replied, grumbling, and now Janus could see the group and hence the speaker, looking around their group as if hoping one of the other 3 with them could distract the person trying to grab his hand.

He was just behind the group now, trying not to listen to the conversation. Besides the conversation between Virgil and the man who'd been identified as Patton over Virgil joining them, there was a pair of brothers prone to wrestling or deciding to simply carry one of the others of the group, as well as very teacher type person, who'd gone of on a few rants, barely listened to, over the plants or bird song they could hear.

Then Janus found himself grabbed in a bridal carry by one of the brothers. It was the one in darker clothes but he hadn't been able to figure out their name. “Excuse me?” He stated, shocked enough that no venom or anger made it into his tone.

“If Roman gets to carry Virgil, then I get to carry someone, and I'm not getting in the way of Logan doing science stuff.” The person explained, as if that ruled everyone out.

“I'm a stranger and what about that guy?” He growled, gesturing sharply towards Patton.

Remus pulled a face, sticking his tongue out as if disgusted. “He thinks romance is great. I'm not doing anything that could be seen that way to him if you offered a million bucks. Besides I'm Remus, and now you know my name we aren't strangers!”

“Janus, and are you saying everyone here except whomever that is, is aromantic?” He blinked, frowning for a moment. The entire reason he chose hiking over socialising when needing to get away from the performance of romance was because he couldn't find a group of people like this, and now he's seemingly being kidnapped by one, given he's still being carried.

The other shrugged, “Aromantic Roman, asexual Me, both Virgil, demi-aroace Logan, and fully allo Patton.” Remus nods to various members of the group, identifying them for Janus, who was even more surprised when as they were mentioned everyone waved, or called a greeting. “Why? You looking to know more people who only flirt to joke at how many absurd things people try to claim are flirting? Hell I've been told I flirt with my brother because we had month long competitions over who can take the longest to say hello.”

“More like people I don't have to pretend romance is a thing I'd want at all around. I'm aroace, by the way.” He admits, smiling when that gets and excited grin thrown down at him, until the moment Remus stumbles because he stopped looking at where his feet are going.

“You got us now!” Remus yells, making Janus startle in his arms.

Virgil snickers, making them both notice Roman is now walking beside them, still carrying him. “Or rather Remus has you. I hope you're okay with being carried. These two don't put new friends down easily, well unless requested, demanded or said person is spiralling into a panic attack and they start freaking out over scaring their new person.”

“I'll assume you were the one to panic then.” Janus countered, sparing a glance for the path ahead and the other member of the group he'd been made to join.

“And will share stories of it forever more.” Virgil's smirk widened at the protests that came from the brothers. “These two are still learning how to help with them, even after knowing me for 3 years.”

Janus smirked back, letting the conversation carry on around him easily.

Life is a performance for Janus, and flirting was the most exhausting part of it, but today a miracle happened and he found people the performance didn't need putting on for. A blessing he hadn't dreamt of receiving.

I dont see Helaena cheating. I see her having feelings for Aemond both romantic and sexual in nature but I don't see her cheating. And IK people bring up the "so you don't want female characters to have agency and sexually fulfilled lives? So you think only men are allowed to cheat? So you think all people with autism are aroace robots with no interest in sex?" arguments and I believe some anti-helaemonds genuinely smack of that kind of thinking, but something it's simply: I just don't think Heleana is that kind of character from what we have gotten. Helaena not cheating doesn't mean all real woman cant ever cheat or all female characters cant ever cheat, its just in Helaena's case she does not. There are female characters who cheat, not as many as men, but they're there. I don't see why Helaena specifically not cheating would be such a big blow? Is it because of the autism? In that case the scarcity of autistic characters should be criticised IMO; we shouldn't need to make one autistic fill a niche by herself. Thats just sad tbh.

It's the only reason I don't believe anything happened between Helaemond on the show and will be very surprised if it has or will unless helaena does a 180, which IG could be a kinda fun angle - her becoming more like Aegon/a Dragon. But there's so much gonna be going on I don't know if we need this. I'm just a little sick of Aemond I guess.

hey there, i want to take this opportunity to assure everyone that, with all my ranting, i'm not really a prescriptivist person, bent on shaping the way people interact with their chosen piece of media :)

so, if that's your interpretation of helaena's character, that's completely fine in my book, and you are entitled to your headcanons. don't get me wrong here, i'm not trying to police the way people consume fiction or how they like to play in their own sandboxes, lord knows there is enough room for all of us under the sun. so, if you think that she wouldn't cheat for various reasons, i'm not here to contradict your view specifically and tell you you're wrong. our opposing opinions can co-exist just fine in the space-time continuum. :))

personally speaking, i interpret their social & familial roles breaking down so much within this cycle of generational inbreeding that whatever this is doesn't even register as cheating anymore since the regular boundaries start bleeding into one another. but that's bc that's what i find a really cool idea to explore, others can and should come up with their own takes

i, for one, can't control how people choose to judge me for not shutting up about this (lmao this really unintentionally feels like coming out, which is absolutely ridiculous, touch-grass-levels), but i'd think it rather childish if 1. i felt force to go underground and lie about it so people wouldn't blacklist me for this dumb reason and 2. i couldn't really engage in other ways bc people formed this unfair opinion that i'm some tainted radioactive waste. i write a lot of meta on a lot on topics and i enjoy talking to a wide range of people, which is why i rarely even block, so, that's just a personal disappointment i would have as a fandom navigator.

Something I mentioned to my sister earlier that I have now been able to more thoroughly think through.

You know how the vast majority of media feels the need to generate some form of romantic subplot? To the extent that many romantic subplots are forced and don't fit into the themes or nature of the story? But the media creators feel obligated to put it in anyway?

I have a theory that this is why the representation of Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual experiences are so much more represented than Trans, NonBinary, or Asexual – especially Aroace – experiences.

Sidenote: I'm obviously not saying LGB characters are overrepresented, I'm addressing the Trans, Enby, and Ace characters being criminally underrepresented.

I can think of only five or six trans characters in media off the top of my head. Maybe three nonbinary characters, and in media that I have seen? Only one canonical aroace character. (That's Lilith Clawthorne, btw)

The theory states that since lesbian, gay, and bisexual identities all have to do with romance and who a person could potentially be paired up with and shipped with, it's far easier for their identities to be represented in media, due to that incessant need for romantic subplot. But since being trans and nonbinary have nothing at all to do with who a person can canonically be shipped with, and being Aroace excludes the possibility of a ship in the first place, they're not as commonly represented. They don't already neatly fit into the generated world and storyline of what would be considered a popular story.

A few weeks ago, I was storyboarding with my younger brother (no hate to him, he's still learning), and I mentioned that one of the characters in the story was a trans woman. He asked me why I had made that decision, saying your typical stuff about how it didn't add anything to the story, and it would be forced diversity. I countered him with this: name one character in media that is canonically trans.

He couldn't. He'd never even heard of one. Part of that is because our parents shelter him in the same way they sheltered me, but it's also because there aren't very many. So how can this be forced diversity when in the real world, people are trans, yet in fictional worlds, people very, very rarely are?

The more I think about it, though, the more I begin to question if he might be on to something.

There are a lot of stories where a character's sexuality is integral to the plot, and a character being gay or bi actually does drive the story. We have coming out stories all over the place, stories exclusively about the gay experience. But if we have any stories exclusively about the trans experience, I've yet to see or hear of them.

I'm currently working on a story that is about the trans experience, specifically finding confidence and making space for yourself in the world as a trans person. When I first got the idea for the story, I was concerned it would come across heavy-handed, or people would call it propaganda. But to be honest, I don't care. I want there to be more of this kind of book in the world, so I'm making one.

And to any cis ally authors, or allosexual allies out there who want to write trans or ace characters: Do it. Please. If you're afraid of getting something wrong or playing too hard into stereotypes or making "bad representation", you're probably right. I'm afraid of that, and I am trans. That doesn't mean it isn't worth it. Every character is worthy of critique, and the way you get to a point where we have lots of good representation in the world is by having a lot of bad representation first.

Do your research. Talk to real people who identify with the label you've bestowed on your character, and listen to what they have to say. And when it comes down to it, you have more wiggle room in your characterization than you might think. There's a million different valid ways to be trans and ace, so unless you're being actively offensive, you're probably good.

Please write us. Our stories are important.

Worries about turning out like her family no matter what she does - especially treating her twins like Van Helsing treated her since he's the only parent she has. Views Drac and the monsters' past fear of humans as funny and cute compared to hers and sees things that challenge her worldview as fun learning opportunities. Thinks the best way to learn about someone is get them happy and playing. Goes blank or slasher smiles when she's pushed too far, unleashing the inner huntress killing machine part of her. As long as she's being LOUD, you're probably safe. Straightens her clothes when she meand business.

Alice: Touchstarved, likes her horns stroked, the halo glows when she's happy, sinks when she's tired or asleep, she can use her twisted form as the equivalent of HT Drac's vampire face, her wings, plushies are her equivalent to Bendy's cutouts and she feels at home around them...sometimes even hiding among the Heavenly Toys curled up into a ball when upset. Alice is still a bit perfectionist and will often straighten out things in a room since she wants things done right, but she's not as insane as Susie. Still Hums her songs as she walks around, especially "Lonely Angel" It sounds cuter as a toon. Can do her "big voice" even as a toon when she wants to be scary over the speaker system. She's quite protective of her family and friends, especially when it comes to being lied to or picked on for being ugly, evil, etc. Capable of both encouraging friends cheerily and being HORRIFYING to those who've wronged them. Pulls out still-beating ink hearts as a gag, sometimes gives out the melting Tommy Gun as a prank, secretly worries she's still nothing but a dangerous monster, HATES being called an "Ink blob," "ink spot", "Stain", A loving and protective mom figure sometimes even if she doesn't necessarily get the needs of human children as a toon and having lived in the Cycle for 30+ years. Loves the spotlight but is much more an ensemble player - she's mostly happy to be able to act again and is used to working with Boris and Bendy.

Audrey: Aroace, kind of an introvert even though she's more outgoing than Henry, has a Beetlebabes type relationship with Bendy and a sister-like relationship with the Angel sisters. Henry is a dad/uncle figure. Likes "Spooky Scary Skeletons." Fear of drowning, fear of having her hands or arms grabbed, fear of being eaten, prefers to hide or banish than kill even though she CAN if she so chooses. Gets uneasy around people similar to Wilson. Kind of the "straight" person of my blorbos. Body image issues, existential issues, runs or grabs her hands when upset (especially the blackened one)

-I was pretty skeptical to watch it but my sister convinced me

-I've just finished season 1 and I have opinions

-The whole series really hinges of Korosensei just deciding to teach a class for no reason huh. Like I feel like if they tried to logically answer "why does an octopus intent on destroying Earth want to spend the last year dutifully teaching middle schoolers?" the whole show would fall apart

-and I love it

-The opening scene of them firing on him as soon as he entered was iconic

-Really didn't like Karma at first. Kinda unhinged, even for this class. Especially when he tried to jump off a fuckin cliff what the FUCK Karma. I know the saying is "Karma's a bitch" but I didn't mean it like this.

-Nagisa. My son. Please protect him. I love him so much. The only one with a brain cell to record weaknesses.

-Damn I kinda...really don't like Irina. Like idk if that'll be a hot take in this fandom but what the fuck. Why would you try to seduce a middle schooler. Why kiss his brain out. What the fuck lady. -I headcanon both Karasuma and Irina as aroace just in different directions. Karasuma does not want a relationship, romantic or sexual, and just wants to live life as simply a tired dad to his assassin children. Irina also doesn't want a relationship, she just uses that to seduce everyone and she doesn't have to worry about catching feelings.

-The vibe I get from Irina trying to seduce Kurasama is the vibe I get from Teruhashi and Saiki. Only obsessed because he won't pay attention when everyone else pays too much attention, then develops feelings for who they are.

-I think my favorite part is how much almost everyone's heart is in the right place. And how everyone comes in with this clear-cut mission and goal and Korosensei just kind of...teachers them into being compassionate and letting loose. Karma. Ritsu. Karasuma, Irina. Almost anyone.

-Have I mentioned how batshit insane it is for the government to be like yes. We can't kill this unkillable creature that blew up the moon. How about we let him teach a class of middle schoolers, since he's gonna kill us all anyway. Absolute madlads.

okay so this is basically half headcanon since we don’t know much about jotaro and his wife’s canon relationship but we have statements from jolyene and such so that’s what i’m pulling from

i’d like to start off by saying something. irl george jones and tammy wynette’s relationship was extremely abusive and i’m not drawing parallels between their irl relationship and jotaro and his wife’s, i’m simply using the songs they sing (i’m aware many were influenced by the state of their relationship at the time, though coincidental) because a lot of them fit into the way i think jotaro and his relationship with his wife played out. just to clarifiy

let us begin, it’s all under the cut

D-I-V-O-R-C-E by Tammy Wynette

“our little boy is four years old and quite a little man/so we spell out the words we don’t want him to understand” -- jolyene is 4. it’s around 1996 and jotaro is deep into grad school/stand studies after the events of stardust crusaders. jolyene is coming into her own, her personality is showing etc etc and she’s obviously super smart 

so instead of the actual divorce (because i like to imagine that takes place after part 4, so 1999) jotaro and her mom are hiding the fact that their relationship is starting to strain. divorce was on the horizon even before the events of part 4 even though jotaro wasn’t yet a bad dad. he just wasn’t the best husband and jotaro’s wife wanted more for their marriage and their child

“I spell out all the hurtin' words and turn my head when I speak / 'Cause I can't spell away this hurt / That's drippin' down my cheek” -- okay i think instead of jotaro’s wife this is jotaro speaking. he can’t bear to face his failure so he’s not even able to look at jolyene, indicating how he’s going to leave

i’m picking and choosing lines from this song because it’s gonna fit in a narrative, i’m getting there

“Golden Ring” by George Jones and Tammy Wynette

so. this song spans a the course of a marriage and i’d like to think it fits jotaro and his wife pretty well. 

“In a pawn shop in Chicago / On a sunny summer day / A couple gazes at the / Wedding rings there on display / She smiles and nods her head / As he says Honey that's for you / It's not much but it's the best that I can do” -- jotaro is a grad student. he doesn't have much money of his own and he’s way too prideful to accept any money from his family especially regarding his family and his future. 

i genuinely believe that in the beginning there was love between them. i’m not gonna get into my aroace jotaro headcanon here because that’s a whole nother thing but they did indeed love each other, obviously jolyene was not the result of a one night stand and they didn’t just elope so she wouldn’t be born out of wedlock. he loved her and she loved him and there was a genuine human connection there. but then the trauma struck. 

“Tears roll down her cheeks  / And happy thoughts run through her head / As he whispers low with this ring I thee wed” they were indeed married. adding this because he married her, he loved her, there’s no evidence he never loved his wife. (even if it wasn’t explicitly romantic or whatever, that’s not what i am discussing here)

“In a small two room apartment / As they fight their final round / He says you won't admit it / But I know you're leavin' town / She says One thing's for certain / I don't love you anymore / And throws down the ring / As she walks out the door” -- once again, jotaro was a grad student. he likely only lived in an apartment so he wouldn’t have to commute back and forth from wherever his wife’s hometown is (he wouldn’t want to live with her and jolyene for fear of leading a stand user to them and harming them) and this “final round” happens in his apartment, away from jolyene. 

i’d like to think his wife is really passionate and isn’t gonna put up with his bs and she’s gonna do what she wants to protect jolyene and care for her daughter, and if jotaro’s not gonna be involved anymore then so be it. she’s not gonna put her daughter through their arguments anymore and she’s leaving and not coming back to the town his university is in and staying where she lives with jolyene

“He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George Jones

okay this is gonna take something out of me oh my good lord i’m sane i’m sane

big jump here. but listen, hear me out. 

“He said "I'll love you till I die", / She told him "You'll forget in time" / As the years went slowly by, / She still preyed upon his mind” -- jotaro didn’t say i love you much. but in that final fight above when jotaro’s wife was like “i don’t love you anymore” jotaro said “i’ll love yout till i die” and he meant it. she didn’t believe him because of how much he deeply neglected her and jolyene. yet because of how he went away to protect them he was always thinking about her and the safety of his wife. he still loved her through it all

“He kept her picture on his wall, / Went half-crazy now and then / He still loved her through it all, / Hoping she'd come back again” okay yes he kept their family picture. he absolutely had to, it was the only one he had of all of them together before he “went half-crazy” from the trauma and the stress of losing his family and being responsible and unable to protect them. once again, he still loved her. he always had and he always will

“I went to see him just today, / Oh but I didn't see no tears / All dressed up to go away, / First time I'd seen him smile in years” jotaro is dead. i’d like to think this is someone like polnareff narrating this, he’s known jotaro for the longest and they stayed in touch after part 4 so i bet he knows at least a little about jotaro’s situation--he was likely the only one jotaro could confide in about everything that happened. (jotaro wasn’t going to lay that burden on someone like josuke or koichi). so polnareff is at the funeral and he knows jotaro rarely smiles. the undertaker didn’t know jotaro didn’t smile, obviously, so he likely made him smile in the casket. even though it’s not genuine, this is the first time he’s “smiled” in years. 

and after all he’s been through, the only relief that would bring him a smile would likely be death. then, he knows he can’t cause any harm to his family.

Three hours later, here it is. I ended up talking a... Lot about my personal characterization of her. Whoops!

You know the drill, under the cut because I really, really like to talk about my country.

I will get the negatives out of the way first, but don't worry, I only really have three big complaints.

So, the first is not serious at all. I just really dislike the backwards hat. I don't know why, I just have a grudge against it - I think it just annoys me a little because I've seen it so much. Show me their hair, I want to see it!

Two, I universally dislike sexualizing Brazil. Don't do this if you're a gringo - don't contribute to it. I keep seeing it, and it's just really gross to me, and not just because I'm aroace. It's fine if you want to make them attractive but, you know, be mindful.

And three, the most serious one... There's this thing that gets done sometimes in the fandom, which is the part animal aspect. And that's cool, I do enjoy me some cat ears or wings, they're very cool, especially when they're paired with being something relevant to the country. But... And please take this with a grain of salt because I am a very white person with a European name - but I wouldn't recommend making Brazil part animal because, to me at least, it's a little... Racist? Like it just makes me very uncomfortable, especially if you're already making them (or coding) them to be not white. Especially if you're doing it like me, where they're some part indigenous - my advice is that you just don't. Yeah.

^ All that unless you're Brazilian, I suppose, in which just... Weigh your options and be mindful.

So now to the positives! :)

Universally speaking, making Brazil a laid-back jokester is a slam dunk. Keep doing that! Even I, a quiet person in real life, will tell you that's a good way to represent our country. In general (minus the South somewhat due to all the European influences), we are a very welcoming people and portraying CH Brazil as that is really cool to see!

It's very good that people really do make the effort to give them kinky or curly hair. Makes me happy to see, especially when it's noticeable that they made the effort to go and research how to draw it. I personally give my version of Brazil curly hair, but love to see people doing all types of different stuff (Except when they follow the polandball principle of bald. Sad! Oh, well, it's your preference.)

The football shirt. I know - if I don't like the backwards hat, why do I like the shirt? Because pretty much everyone has it, and also it is funny. I have one, and I don't even like football that much. Slap some white havaianas there too, and you have the typical Brazilian.

And now to me talking about how I personally characterize Brazil because going to be honest, I rarely see them being portrayed, with some fun Brazil facts sprinkled through.

So, although in Portuguese Brazil is male, I made them a woman because I wanted to. :) Generally, she is really empathetic and gets along with pretty much everyone. Brazil is just a friendly person, what can I say? She talks very loudly because if you put a Brazilian in a room with people from other countries, the Brazilian will always be the loudest. Brazil doesn't notice that she does that, though, it's just that she articulates a lot when talking. Will talk your ear off, then will be like, "You're so quiet! :0".

Unless what you're talking about politics. See, she feels like she has to be friendly with everyone all the time, so why should she ever express her real opinion? You'll ask her something and she'll be like "Oh, uh, yeah... But what do you think?". It clashes a lot when the government expresses a strong opinion or does something less than savory to another country (cough, Empire of Brazil, cough). Very rarely will she ever be upfront with her international politics views. You'd probably have to get her to drink a lot first.

Honestly, she is a smart person, but those types where she'll catch you off guard. One thing Brazil has a knack for is languages - studying them is definitely something she'd do in her free time. Of course, Portuguese and some of the Tupi-Guaraní's linguistic tree would be the main ones. Indulging myself because I'm German-Brazilian, but I do think she'd know it, as well as at least a little something from the other nationalities that came here. Which are a... Lot. But mainly here in the South it would be Italian, Ukrainian, Polish and Japanese.

Fun fact: She is in BRICS, but the only Russian she knows are the things it has in common with Ukrainian, and that's it.

A negative part of her personality, I'd say she's just a very... Inactive person over all. There's this lyric of the song "Que país é esse" by Legião Urbana that I think illustrates a bit of what I mean: "Nobody respects the Constitution/But everyone believes in the future of the nation". Brazil wants things to get better, she will complain about things being bad, but she's not doing anything to make it so. And she does get really frustrated if people try to blame her for things that have happened - like as much as she is a goodhearted person, Brazil hates thinking that anything that she does could be bad. What do you mean this is her fault? She's a nice person, isn't she? She wouldn't do something bad on purpose! :(

Also, she hates... Telling people things directly. Brazil just tries to vaguely hint at the things she means, but unless she has been simmering in a grievance for literal years, she will not tell you something is wrong. But, man, when she does blow up it is bad. Brazil will literally pick out every single one of your bad attributes and lay them out meticulously.

It is very, very rare, however. So don't worry about it (lol).

Off the top of my head, there are only two countries she ever fought like that with. USA due to, you know, the coup he doesn't feel bad for his country having supported. And Argentina because... Well, they fought a lot in the past. I could not point you to a specific occurrence. Doesn't help that Argentina is also a massively stubborn person.

Lightning round because I need to sleep soon: I made her asexual because she deserves to be that cool! Talk to her about her country's literary canon, and she will not shut up. Brazil is honestly not that musically gifted, but her favorite genre is Tropicália. Can slam a surprising amount of alcohol. She has chronic back and knee pain - a consequence of being that tall. Longest hair care routine you've ever seen.

And that's "it". Believe it or not, that is very much not all my Brazil thoughts.

I have to be somewhere right now but later today I wanna talk about the general way that Brazil is characterized by the fandom and my OPINION PERSONAL OPINION about it
