Unscripted Thoughts for the Mew Project
This single frame gives me life.
Here’s a new thing I might do. Whenever a new special preview or introduction comes out, instead of writing some semi-professionally blog/review, I’ll just do a little ramble of my thoughts over what I just saw, so hopefully this first take turns out well! (because of this, review for the new episode will be postponed for tomorrow)
Anyways, so, I adored seeing Ash reuniting with all of his Pokemon at Oak’s ranch. Hopefully we get to see all of them instead of just the few shown in the preview. Honestly, I’m just impressed that they remembered that Ash has left Charizard at the lab, so mad props to that I guess. If anything, I just hope to Goh’s reaction to Ash’s own mons (maybe getting a little quality over quantity comparison from his own mons to Ash’s) and hopefully have Ash introduce his current team to his old veterans, but considering they didn’t even bother to do that in Alola for no good reason, I highly doubt that. Which is a shame, as there’s SO much potential you can do with that! Have Charizard interact with Dragonite, make Gengar prankster buddies with Glalie, give Lucario some moments with Infernape or Sceptile, do something!
Speaking of Infernape, this may not come as a surprise, but I’m beyond hyped for this. I believe Infernape to be one of the greatest developed Pokemon Ash has ever had during his time at Sinnoh. Was it perfect, not really, considering he did KIIINDA hogged some of the spotlight, which is probably why Torterra never scored another win after evolving, but imo, it was handled a bitter than Greninja’s, who I still also love. Apparently, Infernape is going to have been missing by the time Ash returns to the lab, which begs the question on what the heck Oak’s been doing since he left?! Going by what was shown, it seems Ash will use Infernape to help Goh and Gary face off against a Moltres which is pretty exciting ngl. Personally, I would have Ash take some of his other Sinnoh mons to help Ash look for Infernape and Moltres because, well, yeah, it would make sense. Ash should momentarily leave Lucario and Sirfetch’d at Oak’s care in exchange for Staraptor and Gliscor, since they could scout the air with Dragonite and Gengar to help look for Infernape. Plus, Ash, you don’t want to bring Lucario and Sirfetch’d against a freaking Moltres! They would get bodied in a second.
There’s also people demanding a fight between Infernape and Cinderace, and that’s just.... no. Cinderace would literally die, guys. Especially if Infernape still knows Dig!
Iris and Gary’s return episodes are also nice to look forward to. I like that Iris will have her Champion design from Black and White 2. I didn’t notice Axew with her, so maybe he has evolved as a result of his own character development back at Best Wishes. If so, then cool. I heard that both she and Ash would be in Hyper Class by the time they battle so their match would end with the winner rising their rank. It’s gonna obviously come down between her and Ash’s Dragonites and I honestly don’t care who wins. Once again, Ash has developed his goal off-screeeeen, what’s the point, anipoooke?? Honestly, Iris’ Dragonite needs some wins, I mean, the only official win I can think of that he got under Iris’ care was with Georgia’s Beartic and Dawn’s Mamoswine, but after that, he lost Ash’s Krookodile, Drayden’s Druddigon, Ash’s Charizard, and Clair’s Druddigon. Give the man some fucking wins, anipoke!
Going to Gary, his new HeartGold/SoulSilver-esque designs pretty cool and it’s nice to see his Electivire again. And it seems he might become a rival to Goh and, yeah, that makes sense. Gary was once Ash’s rival when he was a battler, but now he’s more of a researcher, which is Goh’s own motif as well. Make them research rivals because not every single fucking rivalry in the anime has to evolve battling. Make Goh to see Gary as competition over Ash’s friendship considering Ash and Gary were childhood friends. So much potential, so much that could very well be wasted, as I like to say.
Other then that, it seems Chloe and Eevee will also get more development and that’s always nice. There’s gonna be an episode about Goh’s white-flower Flabebe and.... who fucking cares honestly??
And there’s gonna be some Crown Tundra-themed episodes regarding Project Mew. Since it’s a snowy region, it would be a good chance to invoke Jessie’s own past with her mother and Mew, but let’s be honest, the writers have probably forgotten about that by now. So much for actually giving the trio some dignity and depth this season. Tsurugi and Asahi look alright. I’m just hoping they won’t have that cliche anime attitude of “uuggghh, you’re sooo immature i cant take you sErIoUsLy until you dooo something impresivvve”. Cause that stupid trope’s already been done to death with Bea and look how interesting that made her. Give the new characters some personality, anipoke!
So yeah, those were my rambles and I hope you enjoyed them somehow.
