Favourite 5 Saezuru Scenes

I recently reread Saezuru for the umpteenth time and just needed to gush about it like a crazed person who constantly hallucinates about Yashiro being happy and soOooOOooo.................

1. Why now? (Chapter 25)

These 3 panels kill me always... although it's the entire chapter 25 actually, and not just these panels. This broke me when I first read it nearly a decade ago, and it breaks me every time I reread it. I recently just listened to the drama CD for the first time and wanted to hear how this scene played out (a.k.a. wanted to hear Yashiro moan wkegh;ghwle) and I did not expect to start bawling and sobbing uncontrollably when his flashback appeared. WITH THE MUSIC AND EVERYTHING. THEY DID NOT SPARE ME. FUCK. What was supposed to be a tender and gentle and loving and intimate scene between them turned into Yashiro facing the effects of his childhood trauma -- that will never cease to hurt me. Doumeki saying "kashira, kashira, kirei" right before that broke me in a way reading that scene in English couldn't. I WILL NEVER GET OVER THIS and if I keep writing about it I'm gonna cry again so:

2. Car ride back from Kageyama's clinic (Chapter 4)

This is mostly for nostalgic reasons, really. I first read Saezuru in 2013, and I wasn't used to Yashiro at first. I didn't know what to make of him.

So what happened was that I read "Don't Stay Gold" first and was like... there's a manga about this mildly threatening and unreadable yakuza dude who's Kage's friend…? Who played cupid for him in a weird way? HMMMMM dubious, dubious. Would I even like him? It took me a while, but I finally gave Saezuru a shot anyway, and I remember feeling uncertain about Yashiro up until those panels. I remember it so starkly, because this was the instant I fell in love with him. I think it was because this was the first time I understood the depth of his loneliness (since I hadn't read his high school oneshot yet at this point).

There's just something about how Yoneda Kou-sensei draws these kinds of pages that just resonates with me so well. I CAN'T EVEN DESCRIBE IT. It just connects with me the way Yashiro connects with me, and that was pretty much it for me. Obsession sealed. Life signed away. For the next 10 years I would follow the story closely and routinely check every few months for updates. Yashiro became one of my only 3 comfort characters, and rereading Saezuru always gives me a catharsis and sense of peace that I didn't know how to find elsewhere.

3. "To go on living this strained existence... no longer holds any meaning to me." (Chapter 34)

This scene is one that I come back to every time I'm down. AM I A MASOCHIST? I really like the June translation too: "To go on living this strained existence no longer holds any meaning to me." I think the way the panels divided up those thoughts were brilliant!

This especially hurt me because for the entire manga up to this point, Yashiro has stated that he completely accepts himself and he's happy with who he is. It wasn't until his realization during the sex scene with Doumeki and how much he's said/done hurtful things to Doumeki afterwards -- who he considers pure and sweet and good -- that he thinks this.

4. "Falling in love feels like this" (Chapter 33)

The first time I read this, I had to set my PC down, go out to my apartment balcony, and just silently stare out into the night and resist the urge to smoke (that was half a joke) (I did feel a pang in my chest though) (and I did have to fight very hard not to smoke lwkehg;hge). I love the dialogue right after these panels too, when Yashiro said, "Your sister was lucky that you were there." That, along with Doumeki's reaction, hurt.

This was such an intimate scene between them. Yashiro was so vulnerable. So was Doumeki. I hadn't realized this until I reread Saezuru this year, but these two have always had such intimate scenes right from the start. It was a slow burn, yes, but they had always been instantly drawn to each other: Doumeki thinking Yashiro was beautiful and captivating, and Yashiro doing something he doesn't normally do with his subordinates the first time he met Doumeki. And it didn't clue in for me back in 2013, but their conversations with each other were much more intimate than the conversations they'd have with anyone else, right from chapter 1. I find that so precious.

5. Dream (Chapter 40)

I couldn't not include a scene from post-timeskip, BECAUSE I LOVE POST-TIMESKIP. I love Darkmeki and I love Yashiro and I love that the theme of post-timeskip centers around "change". Wish I could include that conversation Yashiro had with Tsunakawa about it, because I thought that drive-home was brilliant. I really appreciate that Yoneda Kou didn't have Yashiro and Doumeki get together right away after they have sex, and I really appreciate that the question was raised of: Do people change? Can people change on their own, or would you have to force them? Or are we always the same at our core? And I think the answer is of course a mixture of all of it, and that it's very much circumstantial and subjective, but I love how we're able to see the shifts in both Yashiro and Doumeki. How both men aren't quite the same people we knew pre-timeskip. Ten years ago I didn't think I would meet a version of Yashiro that wouldn't talk about sex 24/7, but here we are.

(Not to say that they're completely different now. They're still our Yashiro and Doumeki of course; I just wanted to gush about how well Yoneda Kou were able to flesh out her characters in such a complex, multidimensional way.)

ANYWAYS, I went on a rant without even mentioning these panels of Yashiro's dream. I love everything about it: Doumeki's face not showing, Yashiro running away and turning back to see Doumeki not there anymore, and that last panel of him standing in the middle of nowhere, lost and empty and lonely -- all of that was so incredibly told in pages of no words. UGH YONEDA KOU IS A GENIUS. It reminds me of that page of Yashiro looking at a mother and child in the rain; it's one of my favourite scenes too.

Honourary Mention (Chapter 4):

I should end with a more light-hearted one. THIS WAS CUTEEEE. I remember reading this for the first time and thinking Yashiro was just salty that his roleplay got ruined. But upon second reread (and maybe I'm delusional here), I thought he might've been happy to hear Doumeki say that.

We know Yashiro gets angry and irritated whenever he's happy to hear something sweet from Doumeki (like that extra when they ate together LOL), and that he had the same reaction of kicking the chair when Doumeki said he can't touch Yashiro's hair anymore. Which was cute to say. So I thought Yashiro might've lashed out in annoyance because he was glad that Doumeki doesn't mind. (I tried putting myself in Yashiro's shoes so many times trying to imagine how I would feel if Doumeki had said this............. and somehow came up with "happy" xD)

...........or maybe this was obvious to everyone and I've just been clueless. AAAAAAAA THIS IS WHY I LOVE ABOUT SAEZURU SO MUCH. It never spoon-feeds you information and lets its readers interpret :")

your relationship with kageyama tobio is nothing short of a dream. everyone can tell just how in love with him you are, and he's just as whipped for you. the two of you are meant for each other.

it's what all the tabloids, your closest friends, and even your parents say to you every-time you see them.

you can't agree more; he's the perfect man for you. tobio is able to understand the weight of being in the spotlight, millions of eyes on you, and he keeps you grounded. he's been your date to every social event, awards show, concert, sporting event, you name it. at the same time, you both are always there for one another, even with no cameras around. tobio's your safe space away from all of the pressures of being famous (and just being human, too). he's anything but a pr relationship, that's for sure.

which is why you're so excited, today of all days especially.

your boyfriend is competing in the 2016 summer olympic games, one of the most impressive feats an athlete can accomplish.

even if tobio can be quiet, not bothering to talk about what it is he's thinking about most of the time, you know that this has been a dream of his since he was a little boy. it's quite literally the farthest he can go in the sport he's loved forever, and he gets to do it with his close friends by his side, too.

your heart swells with pride just thinking about it. you're so happy he has this opportunity.

the unfortunate consequence of it, though, is that you haven't seen him in two weeks. well, that's slightly dramatic. he's able to text you occasionally, but nothings the same as waking up in his arms. other than games, of course, he's restricted to practice and the olympic village.

the only times you've really seen him in-person are watching his games, where you have a limited time afterwards to hug him before he's whisked away from you to start the same cycle over again.

it's been very lonely without him. your friend even sent you a twitter post someone had made about how sad you looked and how 'no one ever sees [you] without [your] boyfriend usually'. you kind of laughed at that, both at the ridiculous picture taken of you and at the fact that the caption might be true.

you miss him so much.

that's why you're both excited and nervous that today is the very last possible match: olympic finals.

entering the (at this point) familiar arena, you make your way to the side designated for japan. your seat is pretty close to the front, but still high enough so that you can see all of the court. that part is important, since your tobio rarely stays in one spot when he's out there.

you pull out your phone, shooting a text to your friend and then one to tobio, despite the fact that he definitely won't see it until after the game. you're pulled out of your focus by a man with a microphone held to your face.

"miss japan! miss (l/n), are you excited to be here today?" he looks at you excitedly, camera aimed at your face.

you can never seem to escape the 'reporters' from random news sites, especially here. it's not too surprising that they want to know your reaction to your boyfriend being in the finals. you don't want to seem rude, though, so once you recover from the shock of being interrupted, you respond calmly.

"of course i am. i'm lucky to have someone i know and love playing, too." you smile at the camera, waving to anyone who will end up watching this (which is always more people than you think). you can practically hear gushiken-san talking about what a great client he has. 'so humble!'

"yes, kageyama tobio. his performance has been amazing these past few games." he looks at you, expectantly.

"i think his performance is always amazing, but i'm also biased," you joke.

the man smiles at you, the two of you going back and forth for a few more questions, mainly about you and your most recent projects (shouldn't they be focused on the event you're at?), along with digging for any possible hints on where you'll be modeling next.

finally, he thanks you for your time and you're left alone. your attention then shifts to the court, where brazil has gone out to warm up.

your heartbeat picks up its pace, nervous and excited simultaneously.

it's almost time.

when the japanese team walks out, your eyes immediately fall onto number 20. even his warmup is flawless. you barely register the time passing, gaze locked on tobio like he's the only man on earth.

the whistle, signifying the end of warmups and for the teams to lineup, brings you back to reality. this is really happening. this is what he's worked so hard for.

this is his destiny.

finals. olympic finals. a game away from total victory, or bitter defeat.

his heart has been pounding for the entirety of the last set. tobio has always been able to keep his cool during matches, but something about the pressure of the biggest match in the entire world has managed to creep into his head. it even cost the team a point earlier. a foot fault has rarely ever happened to him before, yet here of all games it would. tobio knows he has to put that behind him, though, especially with the score now.

28-27. match point. and he's up to serve.

slowly moving back behind the line, a chill goes down his spine. the arena feels dead silent, despite the sheer number of spectators. he closes his eyes, pushing out a final exhale as his ears barely register the whistle.

this is it.

his entire life has led up to this exact moment. his serve undoubtedly making or breaking the game, and his reputation. it feels as though the weight of the world is on his shoulders, crushing him and depriving his lungs of air. like sinking deep underwater, he's nearly swallowed whole.

a saving grace is waiting for him, in the form of you. he pictures your beautiful face, smiling up at him like he's the only man in the entire world. like he's invincible.

tobio knows you're watching him right now. what are you thinking? about that missed serve earlier, and how lame he is? no. that thought is quickly swiped away. he thinks of how you'll run up to him as soon as the game is over, win or lose, take him in your arms and kiss him like no one is watching. he can't wait.

with complete precision, he tosses the ball up, going through his footwork as if in slow motion. he's done this a million times before, and yet this is different.

at the apex of his jump, he meets the ball. he swears he can see you now, hands over your mouth, gripping tightly in anticipation. he's sure he's never slammed the ball harder.

the ball drills into the back left corner, shanked by brazil's opposite.

the arena immediately becomes deafening, shouts and cheers erupting from every single side of kageyama as he barely registers that he ended the olympics on an ace. his teammates are crowding him, excited (especially bokuto), and yet all he can think of is you.

the next several minutes are spent awarding the medals, kageyama standing with his team on the first place podium. despite this being one of the greatest moments of his life, his face lacks a visible smile. he's glancing around the arena, searching throughout the crowd.

a tap on his shoulder finally pulls him out of it, though he turns around to be met with the girl he was looking for, you.

his eyes widen for a split second before you basically throw yourself onto him, hugging him so tightly that you can feel the cold medal through your shirt. tobio's arms quickly wrap around you, and even despite the sweat you move closer to him.

"i'm so proud of you." you smile brightly, amazed by this man that you're lucky enough to call your boyfriend. your hands have found their way to his cheeks, thumbs at the edge of his lips.

kageyama's never been big on pda, but he just won an olympic gold medal and has the prettiest girl in the world by his side. he can let a kiss with you slide, especially when you're looking at him like that.

you drown out the cheers and ignore the flashing of several cameras, lost in your love for tobio. it's only you and your lover, locked in a kiss full of emotion and yet simply enough to convey your feelings.

when the two of you pull away, it's like you suddenly remember just where you are, and you feel slightly shy (which is shocking, for you). tobio, on the other hand, is smiling down at you. really smiling, the smile that he told you people always thought was 'creepy', but you loved because you know it's genuine.

unfortunately, the two of you are pulled out of your moment together.

"kageyama, that was absolutely amazing! how are you feeling after such an amazing moment?!" a reporter rapidly speaks, trying to be heard over the loud environment. unlike the one interviewing you earlier, this woman appears to be from a more official american news station, trying to get an interview from the man who won japan the game.

tobio looks between her and the camera, confused, before he leans into the microphone.

"i love my girlfriend," comes his very choppy english. you can't stop yourself from smiling brightly, the camera turning to focus on you behind him.

he pulls you away after that, and you shoot the reporter and cameraman an apologetic look before following after him eagerly.

"thank you, hon." you joke, commenting on his earlier answer to the woman.

he looks to you. "it's true."

you lean up to kiss him again, hands tenderly holding his shoulders.

"i know. you're so sweet to me… can i wear your medal for a sec?" you eye the big circle of gold.

kageyama can only roll his eyes at your quick shift, though he still ends up taking the medal off and over his head, placing it on you like you've just created all of the stars in the sky.

"tobio, what flavor should we get? i'm stuck between strawberry shortcake and fudge brownie." you stare through the glass case at the grocery store, pondering about the endless assortment of ice cream.

in the reflection, you can see your boyfriend aimlessly looking around the aisle, before his eyes catch onto your figure. you catch his lips turn up so subtly that you'd have never noticed it if he wasn't the love of your life.

he ponders your statement for a second, before coming up next to you and opening the case, grabbing both of the cartons you listed. you look up at him, confused.

"why not both?" he turns back to you, small smile still present.

you smile brightly at him, entranced. he's so perfect.

"i love you, tobio."

"i love you, (y/n)."

you let yourself fall into his side (the arm where he's not holding the ice cream, of course), wrapping your arm around his back as he does the same to you.

on your way to the self-checkout, you snatch one of the magazines on the edge of an aisle, plastered with a photo of you and tobio after his medal was awarded. you skim the bubble in the bottom right corner, one questioning any talk of marriage between the two of you.

you jokingly point to the bubble, showing it to your boyfriend.

"what do you have to say to this, hm?"

tobio eyes it, quickly reading before he smiles at you and kisses your head. he turns away to pay for the ice cream, ignoring your question.

"hey!"

Despite your initial hesitation, when Goshiki invited you to a watch party for the volleyball nationals in Tokyo (organized by Tendo), you asked him the time and told him you would be there.  It’s not that you don’t like volleyball.  You enjoy watching Goshiki’s games enough, especially considering Shiratorizawa’s general enthusiasm towards its volleyball club.  It’s just that, simply put, you don’t live and breathe volleyball like Goshiki does.  

But Goshiki has a deliciously charming manner of making things seem more fun.  Though you may be biased—just sitting next to the boy makes the dullest of lectures seem interesting—it’s evident to anyone that his energy is infectious, infusing his surroundings with liveliness.  That’s what convinced you to come to this watch party filled with people you really only knew from watching them play volleyball.  Just the promise of sharing a sliver of his sunlight.

You also know that Goshiki isn’t inclined to say things that he doesn’t mean, so when he invites you somewhere, you’re sure that he wants you there.

“They are just starting opening ceremonies,” he reports.  You can tell he’s excited because of the way his knee shakes.  

“Oh, I’m right on time,” you say.

“No,” he whines.

As the matches start, Goshiki goes back and forth with Tendo and Shirabu, exclaiming ‘Did you see that?’ and ‘Wow, that serve was nasty.’  You simply listen to it with a dopey little smile because you just like Goshiki that much.  You like the tangible things such as the way he smells.  It’s not bad in any way—just like a boy, uniquely Goshiki (but you can’t figure out if it's his laundry detergent or what).  And how his thoughts are revealed through his facial expressions.

But you also like the things that you can’t catch a glimpse of.  His passion—for volleyball and his rivalry against Ushiwaka.  And the way he makes you feel like the best version of yourself.  

“That Kageyama guy is just so freaking cool,” Goshiki says.

“You’re cooler,” you assure, bumping his shoulder.

🫐 kageyama, for all the great things he can do on the court with the stability and dexerity of his hands, really wants to do latte art. though... he kinda sucks at it.

🫐 kageyama would try to be patient with indecisive customers, though he sometimes mutters under his breath, "just order something..." while his eyes narrow at the customer involuntarily, frightening the customer while he's left confused, not realizing he was looking all intimidating and angry.

🫐kageyama doesn't mind waiting or bussing tables, he finds it a good exercise; he hates being cooped up behind the counter for too long if he's assigned cashier duty.

🫐 kageyama doesn't know what to do when a customer flirts with him. seriously, he's at a loss for what to do or say, especially when they're quite cute to him, example, you.

🫐 kageyama struggles to look at you in the eye whenever you visit the cafe, he sometimes just looks down at the cash register, focuses on the coffee while overthinking if the blend is good enough for you, and stuttering out your order to repeat it when he waits your table.

🫐 kageyama doesn't think too highly of the blends he makes, as long as people come back for it, he's doing a good job. he wants to master his craft, though, so he's constantly reinventing his blends the best he can.

🫐 kageyama always had to kind of force a smile, as per his senior sugawara's suggestion of greeting the customers with a bright, shiny, happy smile. though... his smiles were always pretty scary. he didn't really bother to force himself to smile after that, but until you came, it's like a switch flipped in him.

🫐 kageyama greets you back into the cafe, with you a little surprised and awestruck at the man before you. he wonders if he looks groggy, because he took a nap earlier, but when you point out in a soft gasp that he was smiling, that you weren't scared of him, nor creeped out, but quite enamored with his natural grin... he felt his cheeks flush red, his smile turning into a flustered purse of lips, with him avoiding eye contact with you once more out of bashfulness; but he's glad to see you smile at the sight of his rare beaming grin.

Omegaverse: TLDR My peak fave scenario for the OT3 is both atsumu and kageyama as alphas and oikawa as the omega

RAHH okay so i have two main "timelines" if you will for ace: one where he just, completely replaces mob and is a kageyama. for the most part, this one follows the events of the show, except with ace lol. (sorry mob i love you i swear) ace is more liberal about using his powers than mob is, and hes not quite as powerful, but hes still powerful and trusts reigen so so much. i love to play around with how they got together, but i loove ace that looks up to reigen so much and has a huge crush on him and wants to be together so bad, and eventually reigen gives innn. ace's name is aoi kageyama, and hes transmasc. hes thankful that his given name is gender-neutral, and tries to be stealth as possible (as much as a 14 y/o can). hes stealth at school, and generally people dont know, but there are rumors of course and he gets bullied for this + his powers a lot. he doesnt like fighting back with his powers so he just kinda takes it. his parents in this are very supportive, but aren't around as much, and theyre not very financially well off. this leads to lots of time with just him and ritsu alone, and they have a pretty codependent relationship as hes kinda raised him even though theyre pretty close in age. especially because even though they dont say it, ace can sense that his parents prefer ritsu; hes smarter, hes more althetic, etc.

this is why he initially sought out spirits and such; a small, frail, 10 y/o ace shows up at reigens doorstep and asks him if hed hire him, hes really good at fighting ghosts he promises! reigen takes pity on him and takes him on as his apprentice, paying him a bit more than mob gets in the show lol. ace comes to be really handy for exorcisms, and early on reigen starts calling him "ace" because hes "the ace up his sleeve" when it comes to tricky jobs!! (this is where i get my ship tags from hehe) ace really likes this name and prefers it over his given name, although he doesnt hate it per se.

as time goes on, ace hangs around the office more and more, helping reigen in his various jobs. with his parents gone so much, they start to hang out more after work too; going to dinner together, spending time together, even sleeping over or going to overnight jobs to farther away onsens and inns. they grow close, much closer, and eventually they get together!! i like reigen getting touchier and touchier until they actually do stuff and whoops cant hide your feelings about this anymore!!

(this version of things doesnt always include mob, but im including him in this bc ive been loving thinking about reimobace lately <33) in the other one, ace's name is aoi hayashi. his parents died when he was young, leaving him and his sister to live by themselves. they inherited a house and money, and are doing okay, but with just eachother their relationship gets even more intimate than it was before. his older sister is a NEET and a hikikomori, doing nothing but staying in their house and mostly in her room. shes also an esper, though not a very powerful one. she drops out of school, but ace continues, where he is bullied a lot. one day when hes around 11, he gets trapped in an alleyway by some older bullies, and his powers almost go out of control - but who would be walking by than a 28 y/o mob? mob is able to control ace's powers, deal with the bullies, and take him back to spirits and such to treat his injuries. mob and reigen are together (and have been since mob was ~15 or so) and run spirits and such together, although reigen continues to be the face of the company. (honestly i havent thought about where serizawa and tome would fit into this…so pretend theyre not here for now lmao) mob helps out with the real spirits, of course, and him and reigen are sweeties together <33 mob tells ace that hes a powerful esper too, and if he wants, he can train under him to control his powers and do some good in the world. ace is thrilled, he hasnt had any nice older figures in his life like ever, and loves the attention and care he gets from mob and reigen. and since its just him and his sister (and she barely leaves her room to know where he is at any given time anyway) he spends a lot of time with mob and reigen after work; after a certain point, its almost like he lives at their place rather than his own.

they all get together at some point; the specifics vary depending on how fucked up i wanna make it lol. right now im thinking of them grooming him to be with them, esp considering hes already been groomed and has experience, they take advantage of that (since reigen groomed mob) and its totally normal and theyre sweet. i think mob would be pretty possessive of ace; he doesnt want him to get hurt in the way hes gotten hurt before, and he also hates how ace gets bullied so often. i like to think ace gets kidnapped a lot by people trying to get to mob (since hes the worlds most powerful psychic after all) and they have to come rescue him a lot <33 reigen loves both of his younger boyfriends and i Really like the idea of ace being able to give reigen his powers like mob does in the show and then two very powerful espers have their way with him <3333333 my fav ever.

1. Favorite character and least favorite character?

- My favorite character (both in ie and of all time) is ENDOU!! Even when I was a kid, just seeing Endou step up to the plate and never back down even when others looked down on him and dismissed him really brought me so much joy and I always used to be the goalie whenever I played football because of him. He might be a traditional shounen main character, but he feels different and fresh — he cares about his friends and is ready to fight for what he believes is right, but knows when to step back and listen. They don't write MCs like these anymore.

- Least fav is that mf Garshield 💀 Everytime I see him pop up on the screen my skin boils, especially considering he's the one who corrupted Kageyama. Kageyama might be the titular villain of the franchise, but Garshield to me is genuinely the more I hate of the two.

7. What is your favorite ship?

- You already know but ENHIRO!!!! The moment I saw them interacting together I knew I would love them and then came the first encounter with Genesis in Kyoto and the whole "I'm in love with those eyes of yours, Endou" thing came up and I knew what my otp would be. Theyre so precious to me and the scene where Hiroto and Endou were saying their goodbyes after the Aliea fiasco and Endou told Hiroto that they will always be friends really warmed my heart. 14. Favorite match of the entire franchise?

- The Inazuma Japan vs Little Gigant match :D No matter how many times I watch it, I always get goosebumps and feel emotional. It doesn't get any better than this and what makes it more powerful is the amount of time you've spent with all of the characters, who you've come to love up to this point! Lvl 5 was cooking 🍳🍳

Oh! Interesting question and to be honest I'd have to pull up a 99+ slide because I love them so much- but to sorta squeeze in all my thoughts ><!

Interestingly enough, I didn't exactly ship anyone nor was I drawn to any of the pairs in Haikyu after watching Season 1 up to Season 4 Part 1 (second half with the Inarizaki match was not airing/ hadn't been announced yet even during this time). I acknowledged a lot that the ships existed like kagehina, iwaoi, etc but it was more of "yep I see them as a duo both romantically or platonically, and I'm okie with both or either" + liked fanart and bokuaka was given that same perspective from me before. They had a cute and funny dynamic but granted, I didn't perceive them to be a ship that I would make as my favorite and just casually acknowledge the ship's existence + appreciate the fanart.

However, that changed when I read the manga.

A good number of people loved and shipped bokuaka wholeheartedly from the start while some after reading the manga and I was one of the those people because WOW DID THE FUKURODANI VS. MUJINAZAKA CHANGE THE TRAJECTORY OF MY LIFE-

Much like some bokuaka shippers, this segment of the Nationals arc definitely either fueled their love for this dynamic or help them appreciate and be endeared even by this ship, most especially me.

On a more personal note, the one that really started it all, gave me a little push into loving them dearly when I was already at the tipping point was a certain piece of fanart.

Out of all the wholesome, genuinely lovely art I've seen, this has always been my favorite bokuaka art and the one that help started it all, made by the amazing @/pistachiolan <33.

Neither of them are speaking nor can you see the expression on their faces, but it's a beautiful summary of Bokuaka's dynamic.

And that's the thing, the reason why I was drawn so much to Bokuaka is because:

They're not childhood friends like Iwaizumi and Oikawa or Kenma and Kuroo.

They're not even in the same year level like Hinata and Kageyama or Ushiwaka and Tendou.

Yet, they have a bond that is built on so much trust, support and care for each other in such a short span of time. Almost like they've been there for each other for a lifetime.

It's not a one sided dynamic where one constantly gives and the other gets and doesn't return becase Akaashi gave Bokuto everything he needed so that his star could shine for the world to see (him and Fukurodani gave him the company Bokuto never particularly had) in the same sense that Bokuto didn't want to shine alone or be left in an empty galaxy, he wanted Akaashi to shine just as much whether they were or weren't teammates anymore and gave him words such as "giving 120%" and a generally more positive mindset that outbests any logic Akaashi could have put down ("It's not impossible, just very hard!"), that became something Akaashi carried with him and even became a driving force for his profession as Udai's manga editor.

And seeing them in the timeskip, those happy smiles Akaashi gives to Bokuto when he sees how brightly Bokuto shines on the court, the excitement Bokuto has when he sees Akaashi shining just as much in his own profession when he gets to talk to them after the Jackals Adlers match and how immediately he asks to spend time with him, their same silly odd language that no one can understand but them and how they've seemingly never changed.

To see that bond full of trust, support and care never once waver throughout the years, you can't help but ask: what isn't there to love about Bokuaka?

You weren't a part of the club itself, even though Noya tried to convince you to start managing the club alongside Kiyoko, but they still treated you like you were. You just liked to watch the boys go and do their own thing. You watched how strong they had gotten over the past few months and you were so proud of them, especially Noya. You could see how well he benefited with Asahi on the team, and how much they had grown together. But you didn't expect this. The ball hit the floor, Asahi, Noya and Kageyama were all going for it, as the 32 changed to a 33 on the opposing scoreboard, Karasuno lost. You couldn't imagine how Noya felt. From how badly things went with Date Tech, you could assume that he wasn't feeling his best. You didn't even watch them clean up or announce Seijoh's victory, you rushed down to the front to try and get there before them, you knew Noya would need you right now. After you had gotten down and begun to wait for your team, you started to think of things you could do to make Noya feel better. You could treat him to a convenience store run, or you two could watch the new show that came out last week that he really wanted to see. You lost your train of thought when Coach walked out of the building with the team behind him. They all looked like they were going to start crying at any given moment now. You immediately moved to Noya's side and grabbed his hand, giving it a little squeeze, but he didn't return it. You were going to say something to him, but you didn't think he wanted to be spoken to right now. As the crowd of Karasuno boys moved, you led Noya along with them. Coach took you all to dinner at one of the nearby restaurants and he paid for all of it. As you took your seat beside Noya, you realized he wasn't talking much. They all weren't talking much. As they ate, a lot of them shed tears and sobbed, you assumed that they were thinking about how awful they did back there. You wished you could speak up and tell them how wrong they were and proud you were of them, especially Noya, but you felt like it wasn't your place to do so. The more they ate, the more food was brought out for the boys to dig into. You looked to Noya, his head swung low, only looking at the bowl he held in his hands. You could tell he was holding back tears, if he were to say one thing, you knew it would all come out of him. He didn't like to be vulnerable in front of his teammates, that's why he was nicknamed 'The Guardian', he viewed himself as someone they could rely on when everything went to shit. You couldn't assume how pathetic he felt right now. Once everyone was finished eating, you all were let go for the evening. Noya lagged behind the other boys, but you stayed with him. As each of you split off one by one to go home, it was only you and Noya left. He grabbed your arm and leaned his forehead against your shoulder. You could hear the pain in his voice, "Can we go to your house.?" he whimpered. You nodded at him and you two started walking in the direction of your house. You assumed he would have wanted to be left alone at a time like this, but you were mistaken. You were glad that he could trust you at a time like this.

As you two arrive home, you notice that nobody was home, your parents seemed to have left for the night. Normally, you would have called them to let them know you were alive, but that wasn't important right now. The good thing now is that nobody was home and that you two have the TV all to yourselves. You bring out the comfiest blankets and pillows from the closet and a few down from your room. As you set everything up, you reach over him and try to grab the remote, but he bats your hand away and immediately positions himself to lay on top of you. His hands swerve around your neck and you feel him hugging you as tight as he could while he nuzzles his head into your chest. You assume that this is his way of telling you that he doesn't want a distraction with you, but that he just wants you to love him. You take the back of his head in your palm and reposition yourself to try and make both you and him comfier. You put your other hand on his back and start rubbing it up and down. You make a few stops where you assume that he would be sore from his game today. You suddenly hear soft sobs come from him as you hold him tighter, realizing that he feels comfortable enough to let his feelings go. You don't say anything as he grabs your shirt and digs his face deeper into it, soaking it with his tears. You had never seen Noya like this, being completely willing to let his true emotions out in front of a single person. At the beginning of your relationship, every time you suspected something was wrong, he shut you down, assuring you that he was fine. Now to finally have security in the fact that he trusted you with being vulnerable felt like a blessing. After a while of shushing him comfortingly, whispering sweet nothings into his ear and giving him little head kisses here and there, it felt like he had stopped. He moved his head so that his chin was on your chest, he looked you in the eyes and smiled, "You are the best. Thank you..." he mumbled out, clearly not wanting to talk much, but with his body language, he clearly didn't have to. "No problem love, I'm glad that you can trust me." You lovingly whispered to him. He handed you the remote, but once you tried to give it back to him, he suddenly went back to his old self as if nothing had ever happened. "Nuh Uh! You're choosing this time!" he yells as he gets up off of you. You giggle and choose that new show that came out as he smiles, "I have been wanting to see this! Thanks Y/n!", you give him a smile back as he lays back down on your chest. You watch the show with now content Nishinoya as he purrs against you while you think "How did I get this damn lucky?"

5. Miles Edgeworth

--despite how much narumitsu I post, I REALLY love the hc of aro[ace?] Edgeworth, especially with lines that would support it (like this one below)

Everything about him would remain the same, his devotion to the truth and to Phoenix as well! Edgeworth remains the same (in my mind, at least) in all cirumstances. His devotion just. Ugh. Chef's kiss. It's phenomenal, and it would hit just as well in platonic circumstances, like. I am so devoted to you, my friend, let's traverse this crazy world together.

4. Foo Fighters

--aside from the fact they are just plankton taking a corpse's body as a host, I think I really connected to Foo because of how devoted she was to Jolyne as a friend and how much their platonic love resonated within and meant so much to Jolyne. I just really love when platonic love is shown to hit just as hard as romantic love, and how friends can and will go to any lengths for their friend(s), and FF was/is such a great representation of that.

3. Ash Lynx

--as much as I adore the idea of asheiji, I think Ash was very aroace coded (at the very least aro-coded). Finding meaning in his really bleak world via his friendships (mainly with Shorter and Eiji) and those friendships keeping him going despite everything he had to deal with really meant a lot to me. Ash means a lot to me!! And I will forever think that killing him off was such a terrible ending, sends SUCH a bad message. Anyways this wasn't supposed to be a BF rant. He found happiness within someone (Eiji) who saw the worst parts of him, saw what he was capable of, as well as the trauma he carried and wanted to get closer despite all that. I just love!! When people can see the ugly sides of each other and use that to get closer instead of drift apart, it makes me !!!! WAHHH, especially with friends, like. No matter what, I will always be there for you! I do not expect any reimbursement or rewards or whatever, I just want to be by your side forever as your friend!! And that's what Ash wanted with Eiji; to be his friend and remain by his side, because they really accepted each other and made each other happy. He didn't necessarily crave intimacy or affection, he just wanted to have someone who would accept him despite it all. Can you tell how Normal I am about him :)

1. Jotaro Kujo

--I also don't have an explanation, I just feel it 😭 I know he got married but maybe at some point he had a realization or something? I really don't know but he was also a character that seemed to be much more impacted by his friendships. I guess you could use the fact that he rejected girls left and right as evidence but Jotaro's just an asshole so for me, that doesn't really prove much lol. And it's not even an "I can't see him being romantic with anyone and being happy! He's too independent for that kind of stuff!!" kind of thing; I believe if he let himself be vulnerable with a romantic partner, he very well could, but it's the fact he's much more likely to do this with friends and finds contentment via his friendships that just make me believe he at least has aro aspects of him. He could be, or he could not! Either way, he's an interesting character
