I love this blog so much— it perfectly encapsulates my fascination with history and culture, and gives me a new perspective on the world I live in, as if through the eyes of someone from the future… it makes me think more wisely about what I might take for granted in this world!

Part of this blog was considering the hypothetical of explaining society to an alien or a time traveller. You could really easily give them a bunch of books about the big things, but day to day life wouldn't necessarily be covered. So, having something cover that would be interesting in its own way.

The other part of it was realizing... you know how it is super cool (for some people) to look into the minutia of the past or for a fantasy world? Trying to recover the depths of influence that shapes lives in the smallest way? Why not consider the present to be just as fascinating?

I earnestly believe that, a hundred or so years from now, somebody is going to want to write a period novel set in our present, or to read about the same. Why shouldn't we approach our present with the same joy and fascination?
