Album review: “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” by Chappell Roan
I have finally listened to Chappell Roan after probably too much dawdling…
I really liked it :}} I’m usually not a huge fan of pop and there’s definitely some typical sort of pop songs and ballads on here which were definitely enjoyable but not exceptional. But those are definitely minorities on this album. There’s a lot of bangers on here!!
I also really loved listening to a very explicitly queer album. Especially from the perspective of a queer woman, as a queer female aligned person. Idk it was very easy to reflect my own experiences with relationships in the songs which I usually can’t do with relationship focused songs.
I think an unpopular opinion I have is that I really do not like Femininominon very much. I think the pacing of it is a little tiring, but it’s not a bad song, just not for me.
Some favorites are Casual, Red Wine Supernova, and Pink Pony Club. Casual almost made me cry the first time I listened to it in class and I had goosebumps the whole time I listened to it. So that was a bit surprising to me since I don’t often have such strong reactions to song lyrics. Red Wine Super nova is just super catchy and I had it stuck in my head all week ahaha
Overall very much enjoyed it. As a full album experience it’s pretty good and the individual songs are really good on their own as well.
