#41 - Harriet Bree & Fast Knuckles

Harriet is a rising star in the Ace-Ops, acting as a scout for Atlas' Elite Four. Even after completing an assignment, she's eager for more tasking so she can stay ahead of everyone and everything else! Now, if only her Pokémon could get with the program...

Fast Knuckles has been by Harriet's side since he was a Dratini. Don't let his size fool you, because he definitely lives up to his name. Whether it's by fist or body, if you blink, you've already lost against this powerhouse Pokémon.

#42 - Elm Ederne & Timber

The right hand to Specialist Ebi, Elm Ederne is a terrifying force to be reckoned with if you choose to harm Atlas. She may appear friendly, but the only one she truly considers a friend is her training partner.

Timber's nickname started off as a running gag where she, as a Timburr, would manage to knock over everyone and everything that wasn't paying attention to her. Now she knocks over anyone and anything that thinks they can push her or Elm around. Not a lot even comes close to be a risk, but she does get especially hostile near taller people and Pokémon.

#43 - Vine Zeki & Thorn

Vine is the stoic member of the Ace Operatives, only really speaking in an attempt to keep everyone calm. That said, he has proven to be an especially tough fighter, often tripping up foes with his unorthodox maneuvers with his Pokémon.

Thorn emulates his trainer to a tee, often seen meditating and only giving a soft croak when communicating with other Pokémon. Much like Fast Knuckles, Thorn is a fighter who specializes in fast moves into blindspots.

#44 - Marrow Amin & Fetch

Marrow Amin is the newest member of the Ace Operatives, often seen as the most immature of the team. However, he makes up for his lack of experience with his enthusiasm to help out around Atlas, though he's often the first to rib on those less experience than him.

Fetch is something of an opposite to his trainer. Where Marrow is immature yet enthusiastic, Fetch is the one who has to bring Marrow in, usually with a whack of his bone. Despite their differences, though, these two are near perfectly in-sync with their battle tactics.

I cant stop thinking abt Techno and Phil and peeps with weapons or in a universe similar to RWBY. I used to be like super super hyperfixated on the show when I was younger so thinking abt Techno with a weapon like crescent rose is sick as hell and my brains dream come true.

Especially because RWBY has some pretty interesting lore and takes on discrimination for Faunus (aka hybrids!!!)

IDK I JUST THINK IT WOULD BE COOL!!

Syndicate RWBY AU would fucking slap not going to lie.

Their team would be called TRPN (pronounced Trypan, as a reference to trypan blue and other such dyes. Especially relevant since those dyes are used to color dead tissue so you got a cool link to death and stuff!)

They're an all faunus team! Which makes them pretty unique.

Techno is the leader, some kind of boar faunus probably. His weapon is a sword that can change shape and size (broadsword, rapier, big ass anime sword, little tiny dagger, whatever he needs) and uses dust built in kinda like Weiss' weapon.

Phil is a crow faunus, naturally. His weapon is a crossbow that turns into a double bladed scythe.

Niki is a cat faunus (cat girl niki supremacy) and her weapon is an axe that folds into a glock just because I think Niki deserves a fucking glock.

Then Ranboo, I don't really know what kind of faunus he'd be bc of the whole enderman thing. Maybe an albino ferret? I think that'd be cute. His weapon is a huge shield that has kusarigama built into them (think Futaba from madoka magica because she's my girl and she reminds me of ranboo a lot)

It’s so shocking to me how people still don’t think RWBY is “that racist” (it’s more than that)” when they straight up tried the “ohhh there’s a REASON why the oppressors are oppressing the minorities LOL” schtick. Unironically. There’s no deeper meaning behind racism, if I said that right, because racism is racism. No reasoning behind it. No excuses to back it. And yet this show is one among many who stick their asses out to try and find one.

“Uhh, the minorities were protesting with VIOLENCE cuz their people were being treated like dogs…. Not good🤓” okay and? And??? The White Fang was getting shit done. We’re told by BLAKE HERSELF their violent methods were WORKING.

speaking of the Wang, I want to bring up the two characters from it we vaguely know the backstories of: firstly, Ilia. Ilia is heavily coded as indigenous, that’s a no-brainer. Indigenous people to this day (emphasis:to this day) are still unfairly labeled as terrorists for demanding basic living rights. Sound familiar?

And Ilia’s backstory. Unprivileged girl gets into a school among humans who don’t like her kind. She must hide her identity as a Faunus in order to fit in among these humans. Slap on the fact she’s native-coded and you’ve got yourself a real uncomfortable parallel I might be tripping with seeing, but. No matter what I do see it and I wish I didn’t.

But she’s in the wrong for wanting Justice for her parents death, wanting Justice at ALL for her people. She was just being stupid. LOLZ

And then there’s Adam. Yes, we don’t know much about his backstory exactly, but what we do know for sure is:

• He was literally branded

• He was literally enslaved

• He was literally enslaved, and very likely held in slavery while he was a minor

hi ermmmmmmm my little diary: What The Fuck why is this the backstory of who is meant to be the most evil cruel fucked up twisted scary guy in your show CRWBY? Why is this kind of backstory, this kind of issue, not treated at all with even a shred of sympathy?

and yes, Adam was an abuser. Yes, he was a cringe little whiny loser. Yes, he has a weird mouth. Yes, he did deserve to die in that moment. BUT THE FACT THE SHOW RUNNERS DECIDED TO FRAME HIM EXPOSING THE FUCKING HATE CRIME HUMANS DELT HIM AS. HIS WORST MOMENT. DUN DUN DUN. IS FUCKING GROSS

Especially with how many shots just linger on the brand??? And how excessively detailed it is on the model????? Thumbs down. Tomato!

But oh, this guy was fighting against the oppressors because he wanted his people to TAKE OVER THEM! Just like what the news told me… oh Nvm HE JUST WANTED POWER! He never cared about his people at all, those white people Ahem CHOKE humans were only scared of him and those like him and that’s why they’re racist!

Reframe that statement as:

But oh, this former slave was fighting against the oppressors because he wanted his people to TAKE OVER THEM! Just like what the news told me… oh Nvm THE FORMER SLAVE JUST WANTED POWER! The former slave never cared about his people at all, those white people Ahem CHOKE humans were only scared of the former slave and those minorities like him and that’s why they’re racist!

This show has infamous white comfort but it’s this that irks me the most. I’ll say it again, there’s nothing behind why someone is racist. They just are, and it cannot be reasoned or excused. There is no meaningful explanation behind one’s bigotry, at its core, and it’s painfully obvious that the white ass writers writing this show couldn’t get that through their skulls either.

Then again, RWBY never had a good allegory to begin with. It just kept getting worse.

yeah there's not much more i can say than what's been pointed out in the ask but it definitely shows that the mostly white, american fanbase of the show will defend the writers because acknowledging these aspects of the show & how the white writers fucked it up despite no one asking them to make a racism storyline makes them uncomfortable.

adam has to be only an abuser because him being a former slave / victim of racism makes them uncomfortable.

blake has to be yang's girlfriend & go to parties instead of activist rallies because her being a victim of racism makes them uncomfortable.

ilia has to be defined by loving blake & being a "dumb lesbian" because her being a victim of racism, especially with the native allegory of boarding schools, makes them uncomfortable.

Im sorry, but Jaune stans have really delicate feelings... Adam and Ironwood stans have had way more horrible words flung to them, both Bumbleby and Blacksun shippers too... It's sadly just the normal behavior of the FNDM. I feel bad that Jaune stans are receiving punches too, but they really act like it's the end of the world and like haters have kicked them in the gut. This is normal. Welcome to the actual experience in the RWBY FNDM!

I have to agree as well. I know that there are some good Jaune fans out there that understand that Jaune is poorly written as a character same with those in the Ironwood and Adam camps as well. These three characters in particular all lacked something when being written. Which I think for Adam and Ironwood fans held up firmly while Jaune stans just need to see that Jaune is poorly written... and not a good character.

For Jaune his poorly written status are in line with his lack of accountability, how the writers mostly Miles and Kerry treat him like a self-insert, and lastly poorly-done and pretty generic Semblance and allusion. What he lacks in accountability and responsibility, more respect towards his historical allusion, lastly, not being treated as a "Nice Guy" self-insert character.

Adam was VICTIM of racism even his bio on the now defunct Amity Arena mobile game even supports this. Yet people want to call him abusive or a PDFile because.

The Writers didnt know what to do with him. (Once again, fuck you Miles and Kerry.)

We still have no official confirmation about his age, despite A/rryn Z/ech claiming that he's in his twenties. Once more. Voice Actors dont write the show.

Instead of that. It would have been best to see how racism towards the faunus affected Adam when he was younger, since he has the Schnee Dust Company brand on his eye. Another thing would be to reinforce the student-master relationship and thats it. Nothing romantic between Blake and Adam just a student and master stuff that is all. T

he fact that we could have seen him at first glance hesitant to help humans after the Haven Academy attack because of his morals when he is exiled by the White Fang's council and a new High Leader. While at the same time revealing why he does not trust humans.

Not to mention making him a key-player in the downfall of Jacques Schnee alongside Blake, Weiss, and Winter. Most important of all for that specific arc being that he could see that both Faunus and Humans in Mantle suffer underneath Atlas and the corporations that live up there.

Ironwood just like Adam felt like wasted potential as well for lack of development and no exploration about his past at all. Just suddenly revealing that: "Oh he was evil all along" instead of understanding that he is in a position of leadership and doing what he can while also letting the stress of that position get to him.

We should have gotten the reveal on what happened to half of his body, why he is so focused on maintaining order to better fit the Tin Man allusion, and developing around him to the point where he reveals a kinder side to him. Showing that he has a heart.

Lastly, his semblance not being an ableist allusion for ADHD, which is on the spectrum by the way. Instead why couldn't it have been powered up shots depending on which gun he is using.

God thats another thing I want to touch on. As someone who ships Blacksun as well, I feel very sorry for the peeps who shipped Blacksun a lot, even to the point when BB did become canon that they may have insults flinged at them especially in their ask boxes anonymously. Which I also feel sorry for any BB fans who wanted a natural confession instead of the forced one they got in Volume Nine and perhaps in some case wanting Blacksun or Sunnybees (basically Polyamrous Blacksun and BB) .

RWBY/MHA thought: Shinso would probably get called out as a whiner, going on and on about how his quirk isn't suited for heroism, when frankly we have at least TWO heroes in training in Class 1 A who doesn't have particularly flashy or "heroic quirks" either:

Tooru and Koda. She's invisible and Koda can only persuade animals to fight for him. Neither are particularly useful against robots, and yet THEY made it into the hero course just fine (Not that Horikoshi ever seemed to notice this contradiction).

Really the issue is that Shinso's a fucking noodle with no indication that he ever trained. Even Jaune is reasonably fit and sturdy, he's just really behind due to not having gone to combat school.

It's a theme in RWBY and something that I've embraced in my own MHA fic. It doesn't matter what you start with, it matters what you do with it.

There's always a way to improve, to learn. Tooru and Koda are good examples (In my own fic Tooru has not only learned to control her invisibility but also learned how to weaponize her light manupulation).

My OC, Izumi started barely knowing how to use her hydrokinesis and even had to rely on carrying her own water with her but learned greater control and can now use the water in the air with her quirk.

While they might call Shinso out, I guarantee they'd also try to help him. Especially the RWBY peeps. Things are a little less dog-eat-dog in the academies of Remnant.

You've got a good point about his physical condition too. It's something I actually brought up in my fic. Quirks are great but they're not unstoppable and there might be times when you can't rely on them.

First Ship: oh lord. um. so probably usagi/mamoru from sailor moon, but the first time i "remember" consciously shipping something, to like the point where i was engaging in the fandom for it, was tadamu from shugo chara! and it was my first taste of "ah, so this is what it's like to ship something that isn't endgame." it was also a terribly embarrassing time of my life that i will never let myself live down.

Three Ships: hmm... here's some ships i'm currently shipping

imodna(sp?) i haven't really been keeping up with cr3, but i've been popping in from time to time and i do really love the dynamic that marisha and laura have got going on with laudna & imogen. also, sapphic ships for the win!

zorobin (sp?) and lowkey zoro/perona and robin/franky. one piece is my current hyperfocus and robin/zoro/franky are my blorbos so it's just kinda natural i'd gravitate towards shipping them. i lowkey started shipping zoro/sanji at the end of the thriller bark arc, but as of right now (fishman island) i'm leaning more towards the ships i originally listed. that could change by the time i'm caught up tho!!

twiyor. uwu. i fucking love spyxfamily so much, it is my jam and twiyor are the long, slow burn i've been looking forward to for a long time!! i'm super curious to see how long it'll be till one of them finds out about the others identity!!

Last Song: i've had all of uta's songs from one piece red on repeat for the last few days, outside of that it'd be no horse in this race by my good friend zane thomas. it's a beautiful song about depression/suicide, especially in the comedy industry, as well as creating for the sake of creation. any song from his ep is amazing but i've really been listening to that one recently!

Last Movie: the grinch who stole christmas jim carrey version. although technically i just watched my neighbor totoro and spirited away at work but i don't really count that.

Currently Reading: well i just finished roman holiday from rwby, which was REALLY good, so now i'm debating reading kakashi's story or ace's story. i'm also going to be re-reading spyxfamily here soon !!

Currently Consuming: the last few sips of my rockstar limon pepino energy drink. i promised myself i'd be better about drinking energy drinks but the caffeine helps me feel more balanced when im off my meds.

Currently Craving: red bean covered dango. i had it for new years and it's so fucking good and i could eat dozens of it.

Holy shit go to the RTX website and go to where they list their badge tiers for the con. Fucking 650 for 2 lottery chances for a autograph. 1500 for 2 guaranteed autographs. Also cost 20 to watch live streams from home, but those streams will have cut out any exclusive announcements or teasers. What a shit company.

Everyone's talking about this today and for good reason. I mean, this would be an eyebrow-raiser at any time, but specifically now, in 2022? I know a lot of people have reached a point where they're acting like the pandemic is over (it's not), but even if that were the case, we're smack-dab in the middle of all the long-term repercussions. Unemployment rates have just barely made it back to what they were pre-2020. Gas prices are skyrocketing. Generally speaking, the cost of living is insane right now. If you want to hop a plane to RTX be prepared for a hefty bill and the risk of another summer Covid surge (to say nothing of, you know, being there). If someone told me I had to shell out 650 for a pass and two autographs — on top of all the other expenses of going — I would have laughed and said sorry, I can't swing that. But that price for just the chance of autographs? That's where it gets insulting. These prices are steep for a lot of fans, especially right now. The very least RT can do is guarantee a reward that makes shelling out hundreds of dollars worth it.

And what's the point of paying for a stream if they're going to cut out what 99% of the fanbase is there for? I mean sure, people enjoy the rest of the panel, but that's the kind of stuff that if you're not already there in person — or getting it for free — you're probably fine with looking up later as a transcription of what was said, a shitty phone recording, etc. It's been over a year since the end of Volume 8. People want information on Volume 9. So eliminating that precise information rather defeats the purpose of tuning in. Or, more specifically, defeats the purpose of giving 20 bucks for the privilege of tuning in. To be honest I don't think 20 is a bad price at all for virtually attending the event, but that opinion rests entirely on the buyer getting to watch the important bits.

I get that they need to make money — they're a company, after all — but there will always be fans with the desire and the means to pay for certain perks. You can turn a profit without pissing off the majority of the fanbase. In my experience, stunts like this just encourage people to pirate and/or ignore the event until information is free. It'll probably be the latter given that excluding announcements and teasers is likely a way to keep people from screen recording and sharing the content... but fans always find a way lol. And if they can't, the result certainly won't be to pay for an event that doesn't include what they wanted in the first place...

Also, not to be That Person™, but are RT peeps worth 650 for an autograph, let alone just the chance at an autograph? I mean yes, that price is for the event as a whole too, but let's be real, the rest of the additional stuff (lanyard, 10% discount on the store — which is easily eaten up by this price — early access to exhibition hall) aren't really what most fans will be interested in paying that kind of money for. It's the autograph. And I'm by no means an autograph expert, but most of those I've come across are 50-100, reaching up into the 400-500 range for A-list celebrities... which I wouldn't call the RT crew. It just seems WAY too expensive to me, all on its own, but right now when so many in the U.S. are struggling, travel simply isn't an option for most, there's risk involved, etc.? That's insane. Obviously it's been like this for a very long time, but we've absolutely left the "RWBY is a passion project made by nerds just like you who want to share their creativity ^_^" like no RT isn't just looking for fair compensation for a popular product, they're out to squeeze as much money as possible out of your wallet during the worst possible time. I hope the higher tiers/the virtual stream bombs, showing them that no, this is not a good way to get your fanbase excited to pay for your content.

CONFIRMED VERSES: 

     Sucrose’s Bodyguard || ‘Honorary’ Knight of Favonius(?) || @bonesugar is the one who helped me compile this verse, as it was Asa’s genius brain to come up with it. This is the first verse for Genshin to be made. Akame is tied to Sucrose as her  guardian, and friend. 

     Project Safeguard || Operator Demon Sword || @exrhlab and @medinventive are the two major tie ins for THESE verses. This is the BASE Arknights verse and really the only ones I will go with. The story is driven BY these two and Akame, but side stories can be made / private sub-verses can be formed, however they will always have these two involved. Saria will be gushed at from Akame by your muse, same with Silence, be warned. Also: Project Safeguard is a DO NOT INTERACT verse - it is the origin verse for Operator Demon Sword and how she comes to be as she is, and is only a ‘read’ through for the blog followers to enjoy and suffer with. 

     Canon Events || Akame ga Kill! / Hinowa ga CRUSH! || Anyone who wants to interact with CANON Akame, you need only ask. This mostly is done with @veroxins but anyone can join.

     Isekai || World Displacement || The start of throwing CANON Akame into new worlds: tends to be an easy ice breaker and underpowers or overpowers her per world. Sorry, that’s not really changeable, but tends to be the easiest way for you to meet her in your world, or, you can drag yourself into her world. 

     Modern || Professional Assassin (Cleaner) || Simple as it sounds: a girl who was dragged into the ASSASSIN life in real life, and it t urned her into a professional hit girl. She uses her ‘youthful’ appearance and her funds to come off as either a COLLEGE STUDENT, or, A BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL to get close to her targets, and executes them. In this verse: all goes. She’s stupidly rich, as her organization gives her a Black Card to use for anything she wants (and she rarely uses it for anything past food, housing temporarily, and whatever she needs for the kill), and the bare necessities. She’s extremely tough, but a bit more. . .down to earth. Her speed, resilience, and strength toned back to be ‘human’ but still ‘abnormal’. 

     Fallen || Demonic Assassin || @unhclyblood‘s own LORE BUILT fallen verse for Akame. Akame has died, and become a fallen one: her soul finally sent to hell, but PLUCKED from the torment to become. . .more. She is a DEMON in full nature now, WEAPONIZED as Lilim’s own personal hand picked guard. The very POWERS OF HELL are bore deep into her soul, as well as MURASAME’S SOUL CURSE has been fully weaponized. It can be asked for to rp in this verse, but it’s mostly private and I would ASK BUBBLES for permission first. 

Verses Being Setup

     Honkai Impact - Next game I am giving a try for after MULTIPLE people keep telling me to sit down and play it for a week. 

     Genshin Impact - I have two verses I am setting up, or even just one big one, that is NOT Akame isekai’d into the world, but born IN TEYVAT herself. More info to come over time. 

     RWBY - I am revising her verse for this, she had one a long time ago but I’ve new thoughts and ideas.

     Tokyo Ghoul - My love for this manga has returned, and as such, I am bringing her verse for this back. But I need to fix up some ideas for it. 

     Marvel / DC Comics - It’s not hard to just isekai her or even THROW HER CANON SELF into this, but i’ve fully special ideas for this all. 

     Bleach - Still designing this with my bleach peeps and especially @sung56sun as she’s the core piece of it. I will probably have 2 or 3 even for this as I have many ideas for Bleach. 

     FFXIV - This one is going to take time as I have much like Bleach 2 or 3 ideas. 

     Tower of Fantasy - To be figured out, but I like the lore and world so far. 

     Assassin of the Sokolova Family - @zorkaya��� and I still have MUCH details to go through before this becomes a full verse, but that’s in the future, one day at a time! (And it’s one of my most exciting ones cause Renata’s world building lore is? So in depth? Holy fuck she’s 10/10.)

I apologize in advance for this maybe being a bit too deep/long and me rambling but here we go (^_^”)

Honestly what started it all was that one moment between Weiss and Willow in V7 when Willow takes the booze and drinks it straight out of the bottle.

Or rather it always bothered me a little how people misinterpreted Weiss’ behavior when she threw and burned those bottles (in V6) – to me it was clearly because she was triggered by Qrow’s alcoholism and how he wasn’t doing shit to help (he was even actively being a fucking nuisance in the middle of all of that danger).

Still people always made it about Weiss just having gotten emotional for no actual reasons even though we knew at this point how Willow sank herself into alcohol and resigned. (Weiss’ trauma having been triggered like that especially by the way is one of the reasons you will never see any Winter and Qrow stuff on this blog, but let’s not get into that here...)

Either way I was always a little bit shy/protective about sharing theories and thoughts about things I very much hyperfixate on online or at all really (I also don’t really have a community irl to even share stuff like that with) – I also didn’t honestly even know that people would do theory or analysis posts that much about RWBY (or in general).

All I would ever do on Tumblr was look at the fanart and the Gifs (^_^”) so what I did know was that people would do Gif-sets/parallels.

But when that scene in V7 came up and I didn’t find anybody making a set out of the Weiss’ scene (V6:E6 - Alone in the Woods) and the scene with Willow (V7:E8 - Cordially Invited) and put ‘two and two together’ I just felt a little disappointed (^_^”)

I was like ‘Did people just not notice maybe? These scenes line up so well though…maybe I can do it then…?’ and so I kinda learned how to make basic gifs.

So my very first Gif-set of these two scenes took me forever to make and it’s really really blurry as all of my early Gifs really were since I had no idea what I was doing and what free programs were best and easiest to use xD

I would also use any basic subs that I could just find or get somewhere online, so some of them are really sloppy (^_^”)

These days I actually taught myself how to make my own subtitles so everything looks a lot cleaner - along with the Gifs themselves since I just kept figuring out how to do better I guess? (^_^”)

Either way that first Gifset kinda ‘blew up’ and I though to myself ‘Hey, maybe it’s safe to kinda share all of the details I notice like this. People seem to enjoy it and add to it in the tags, replies, reblogs. Maybe I’ll find all of the peeps who enjoy and love the show the same way as me.’

And so I just kept going to find my community really and just share something that others who are/were like me may get happy about seeing (✩ ์ ᴗ ์✩) (If that makes sense? xD)

And without getting into too much details about my private life I’ll say that RWBY is one of the very very very few things I have in life that just truly give me joy.

I just truly love the show, the story and the characters to the point that with every new Volume I’m just scared to death that something/some plot or character thing might happen that will just break it for me and leave a void – even though there has yet to be an episode to disappoint me.

And just finding all of the details, parallels, even the way scenes are cut and change is something that I simply enjoy a lot and I just always feel like I just want to share and show everybody about just how fantastic the show is ヾ(＠^∇^＠)ノ

And more than anything showing people what I want to point out by doing something as simple as putting scenes together/side by side, these days even putting my thoughts down about a certain scene in words or making fun headcanons and using Gifs to visualize it all has drawn people towards the blog who are also just really fun and cool about the show.

And while there are (quite a few) people who I have without missing a heartbeat simply blocked for several certain reasons, the majority of people here (who check out my blog) are people who actually watch the show, pay attention to the characters, their actual characters and developments, actions and interactions and are willing to look genuinely at things the way they are without being pretentious about it or clearly emotionally just not mature enough to understand what is going on.

Not that I somehow blame those latter type of people for maybe simply not being old or experienced enough to understand certain human behavior or interactions. It is however the entitlement that comes with unwillingness to listen to others who do know what they are talking about that I don’t like and the entitlement to think that certain headcanons that were unfounded from the very beginning are more important and ‘right’ that what actually happens. But that’s a whole other issue in on itself about the FNDM.

That said Gif-ing alone especially these days is also something that simply helps me a lot with anxiety (attacks) and existential fear. It just gives me something to do and to focus on for longer amounts of time that also involves something that I just enjoy and it also, on a more positive note, gives me the opportunity to connect to people, share visuals and ideas with others.

It’s just a very, for the lack of a better word, simple way to connect with people and every like, reply and reblog without or with a comment (regularly or in the tags) just makes me feel happy about one more person enjoying the same thing as I (❁´◡`❁)

And I know there’s also a crap-ton of others out there who make Gifs/Gif-sets and have been longer at and while I usually will reblog a set somebody else has already made I also usually like just cutting thing a bit differently and some people just use filters that I don’t really like (but maybe I’m just ‘showing my age’ here xD).

But I know a lot of people like them, personally however I just think the show’s too gorgeous to slap some filter on it but that’s just really a matter of taste I guess and so I just don’t use them, I also keep my subs simple for that reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ That said however I do know that it’s probably a crap-ton of extra work to filter and sometimes watermark things (^_^”)

But we are saying Miles Luna treated the possibility of mlm Jaune with equal care and consideration as any other ship

But any amount of lgbtqia+ rep, even as a hypothetical by the voice actor / writer, is something great! Especially bi/pan rep for men, which is so rare in media

Passage of Time in RWBY V8E7 “War”

So this post is gonna be a bit out of my wheelhouse. And also quite long. 

I tend not to care about setting inconsistencies, or choreography inconsistencies, or really any of the setting/timeline/etc aspects of this show that are a little off or inconsistent. I will straight up ignore a ton of stuff that isn’t the things I find interesting. Which is Characters, their motivations, backstories, interactions. Characters are really the heart of why I love this show so much and I’ll ignore or discount an awful lot in service of that. (For example I really don’t care a single whit that the Haven Academy fight wasn’t that good because the plot and character beats were interesting)  

So this post is a bit outside my wheelhouse in this respect and also that I am in no way an artist, writer, animator or anything. But some people in parts of the FNDM are using this inconsistency to harp on Ruby, Weiss and Blake, and their perceived inactivity in episode 7.  

So I’ll get to it and put the rest under the cut. 

An entire day appears to pass during the events of Volume 8 Episode 7 “War” and it’s making people misjudge RWB

I’ll lay out the events of the episode and give some examples, then talk about what I think may have happened, then discuss the issues I have with some people’s views of RWB after this episode. I fear this may be a long one.   

So It is dawn at the beginning of the episode and it is night time by the end of it.  

A lot of discussion about this issue has seemed to focus on the passage of time in the entire volume, saying that the whole volume’s timeline is off but I checked and it’s just “War.” Episodes 1-6 have consistent timelines across all the groups’ concurrent plots. 

The episode opens and at about 3:50, we see the Ace-Ops and JYR in their ship. It is dawn outside.

About 5:20 minutes into the episode we see Emerald peeping on Salem. it is Dawn outside.

At 10:40 as we see outside the whale it is the middle of the night. The sky is clearly visible through the clouds. There are stars and the Moon in the sky

The rest of the episode happens and we don’t super see a direct shot of the sky again.

So I’ll pop down some proof in the form of screen shots. 

This is Emerald peeping on Salem at 5:20. It’s a whale TV so the picture is wobbly but it is dawn. Consistent with the previous episode’s time line. 

This is the front facing exterior whale shot at 10:16  It's night time. You can see through the clouds that would be obscuring the sky and making it dark.  

THIS is the shot that I think is messing up the timeline and messing up people’s analysis of the characters’ actions in the episode.   

So that is night time, straight up. You can see through the clouds that would be obscuring the sky and making it dark. The sky is dark. There are stars. The moon is shining. That is a night sky. But, and this is the massive speculation portion of the post. I’m not sure it’s supposed to be.   

I think, and this is only speculation since again, I am exactly zero types of artist, that the intention is for it to be so dark because of the clouds obscuring the sky. Which would make sense and be consistent with the timeline. 

I think what may have happened is that they loaded in a night sky behind the clouds in order to make the animated cloud layer look darker. Since I suspect that the cloud layer is transparent or translucent and needed extra darkness. Then they didn't add in the rest of the clouds. 

Because if this shot was exclusively clouds it would all make sense from a timeline perspective, and there would be no issues. So it may just be a layering/post production error where the night sky used for lighting the clouds wasn't fully obscured.  

That’s the production and screenshot stuff that is messing up the timeline I think. 

Now, on to the Character issues. Stuff I feel more qualified to talk about.  

Some people have taken this apparent passage of time as a reason to shit all over RWB. Portraying them as uncaring, unmotivated, or in fact betraying everything they have ever stood for. Sipping tea as the world ends. This is unfair to these characters. If there is a massive time skip and a whole day has passed, RWB are not unique in having done nothing.  

No one did anything. (This is why I am inclined to believe it is an error) 

Winter and the Ace-Ops evidently stopped having their conversation with JYR about the bomb for the whole day and flew around for the entire day only to continue it at night.

Ironwood didn’t do anything all day.

Salem didn’t do anything all day.

Penny evidently fell for an entire day. (it is possible she did things off screen and this is the aftermath of events we have not seen)

Emerald and Mercury had their conversation, Tyrian grabbed mercury to leave. Then they evidently just hung out in the whale all day before leaving.

it is unfair that so much of the conversation has been directed to RWB not doing anything all day as some sort of character issue. That our heroines are hypocrites or betrayed everything they’ve ever stood for. That it’s our heroes not doing anything or not caring that people are dying when NO ONE did anything.  

This kind of criticism isn’t new to the RWBY fandom. People like to pick reasons why our heroines are wrong and evil people, or stupid children who should listen to their authority figures. People have especially done so during the Atlas arc. (that is an entire other bag and we shan’t be opening it here)    

RWB didn’t do anything wrong. I don’t believe they wasted a whole day twiddling their thumbs and doing nothing while people died. And if you think they did then you have to acknowledge that every single other character in the show did too.  

I don’t have a real good closing here. I don’t think an entire day has passed and I extra don’t think an entire day passed in 5 minutes of airtime. My biggest issue is that people seem to be finding another hollow reason to shit on as much of team RWBY as they can and ignoring every other character to do so. Hollow and baseless criticism of our main characters really annoys me.  

Like I said, I can ignore an awful lot in favor of character and story, and I intend to do so again here. This episode had a million and one amazing character moments and I intend to spend the mid season hiatus focusing on them. But this one really bothered me. Sorry for the long post.
