I have returned from Portugal! Enjoy this randomly selected picture of the Cais da Ribeira in the forefront and the cathedral and episcopal palace of Porto in the back.
We did so much walking. Primarily walking up and down. My feet hurt every evening, and at the end of it my espandrillos were so bad off, I had to bin them. It was so good to get out, though. Just see something different, think about something else (and worry about something else, like “how long until we find a bakery that has sandwiches and not just pastries” - Pasteis de Nata are delicious, but don't make for the most satisfying lunch), not get stuck thinking about small everyday concerns or the bigger issues I’ve got coming up, and fall into bed exhausted and satisfied every evening.

Odd question for the Shadow Weaver fans out there: What do you think does she wear under her robe? I don’t even mean it in a smut way - though yeah, it would be helpful to know for writing that specific story too - but just generally.
What kind of shoes? Does she wear tight pants under the robe or just underwear and then shoes? Or even no shoes?
As a first impulse thought she might wear combat boots because these are practical, fitting for a scary sorceress and also fitting for the military society that is the Horde.
Then I realized that she does not really rely on physical stability or strength, but her magic and also slighly lesser being relatively fast. So maybe something elegant and light like Ballerinas or Espandrillos, not the fancy kind since its hardly ever seen but the light ones through which you can still feel the ground a bit, that might be good for grounding or using the surroundings in spells.
Maybe she wears high, thin socks so that even if the robe should ever slip upwards a bit, nobody can see her scars?
As for underwear, I think she is way to ashamed of her scars and way to disgusted with how she looks like to ever have sex with anyone, so its something functional and convenient. She does not strike me as the boxershorts kind of person - although that would be hilarious - so probably just some of these cotton panties that reach till upper thigh, and no pants because the robe already covers her legs

Espadrilles - The light summer shoe
In many happy colors you see them every summer on the feet of women, but also men: the espadrilles. Light and airy they are the perfect summer shoe that never goes out of fashion. If we thought that he would disappear after the hype in the 80s, we were fundamentally wrong. Again and again, shoe designers and manufacturers devote themselves to the Spanish classic and give it new shapes, colors and patterns. And again and again we buy at the latest on holiday in southern Europe again a pair of espadrilles. Where the shoe comes from, how it is made and what you can do when the sun shoes have gotten rain, let's take a closer look.
What are espadrilles?
Espadrilles are lightweight cotton or linen footwear with a hemp or flax sole. The sole is also provided with a rubber at the bottom to improve durability. The soles are worn off easily by the natural materials and the shoes usually do not experience a second summer. But since they are back every year in the best versions and they are not so expensive, that's not bad. Espadrilles or Espandrillos, as they are often colloquially called, have no closure. The shoes are perfect for slipping in barefoot, because they are breathable and breathable. The classic shoes, often called simply Jutelatschen, experienced and undergo repeated adjustments and fashionable additions over the years. So there are the Espas not only as Flats, but also with plateau or wedge heel.

Small story of the light summer shoe
Espadrilles are very popular because of their natural charm and their unmistakable summer feeling. Again and again they come into fashion and the Spanish manufacturers feel clearly when the sun comes out in the rest of Europe in the spring. The espadrilles look back on a long history. Already 4000 years ago they must have been carried by humans, because during excavation work in a cave in Murcielagos the archaeologists found typical espadrilles. You can visit these shoes in the archaeological museum in Granada.
Linguistic origin
The name of the shoes comes from the word Esparto, a steppe grass, which was originally used to make the sole. Long before the shoe, the Basque peasants tied their ropes out of this grass. Peasants from Spain and France plaited the ropes and sewed shoes they carried in the fields. In English-speaking countries, espadrilles are used as a generic term for linen or hemp shoes, which means the Mediterranean and South American influenced styles. In Spain, linen shoes with flax or grass soles are commonly called alpargatas. In the meantime, however, the term espadrille, which is commonly used in the rest of Europe, is also known. Even with the wrong name Espandrillos, the Southern Europeans know what is meant.
The way to the whole of Europe
Their triumphal procession across Europe began with espadrilles from the south of Europe. They are very rooted in the Catalan culture. In Catalonia, they are mainly referred to as Espardenyes. the shoe is even dedicated to a whole stanza and testifies to the importance of these shoes.
