When The Fox Scholar is Charmed by The Peddler

My (late) submission for Week 1 of Tea’s SuoSaku MonsterFucking Month, inspired by Episode 2: Goose Mountain from the Yao-Chinese Folktales (2023).

Also, I’ve had the Fox Yaoguai-Scholar! Suo thing stuck in my brain for weeks and I just decided to use the idea for Tea’s MFM na lang because why not…and it’s hot. On that note, I originally had the idea to assign the boar demon to Sakura (which if you aren’t familiar with the story; the boar demon is the lover of the fox demon’s concubine aka rabbit demon), but then I remember the chemistry between the peddler and the fox scholar so I went with that instead.

Correcting the Na'vi in the "Activist Survival Guide" Masterpost

A little over a year ago I made a post correcting some of the fake Na'vi in the Avatar: an Activist Survival Guide book based on some images taken from it that I saw in another post. Since then I've gotten my hands on digital copy of the full book and therefore found even more fake Na'vi terms and sentences, and I decided to make a single massive post to fix them all.

I was originally gonna do it as a regular tumblr post, but then decided to make it a google doc instead for the sake of having more formatting options.

guys what do you usually eat for breakfast? i've been really struggling in the mornings lately bc i've been feeling sick n having tummy aches so not rly wanting to eat anything but like breakfast is so important and i love it !!!

I will say one nice thing and that is that I found the conversation with Taash about gender to be very sweet, though I did not try all the options and may have just lucked into something. I also had the luck of NB to NB character relation because of the character I created which was a cool thing to be able to do. It's difficult to tackle that subject well in a game that is mostly about killing flamethrower guys and demons, and it was a really nice little pep talk!

Totally isn't exactly what I headcanoned for my character, but that's fine and normal. It was clearly written from the heart by someone who knows what it's like to be in that situation and I liked that.

cannot   stress   enough   how   important   friendship   is   to   mason   ,   even   more   so   than   romance.   while   yes   ,   he   wants   to   find   romance   eventually   ,   post   his   situation   with   brad   /   his attempt   ,   he   focuses   on   healing   for   the   first   three   years   before   even   considering   trying   the   dating   scene   again.   during   that   time   ,   he   has   to   find   new   friendships   &   rebuild   old   friendships   with   people   who   tried   to   convince   mason   to   get   out   of   his   abusive   relationship   ,   but   when   it   didn't   work   ,   they   had   to   keep   their   distance   because   they   didn't   want   to   see   the   aftermath.   it   takes   a   lot   of   work   ,   but   eventually   mason   grows   his   circle   again   &   honestly   ,   he   values   his   friendships   to   the   point   of   them   being   like   family. his   closest   friends   are   definitely   the   people   who   work   with   him   at   the   recycle   bookstore   /   cafe   ,   as   they   were   there   for   him   when   he   was   struggling   post   his   hospitalization.   i'll   make   a   long   post   about   those   people   in   the   future   ,   but   they   really   mean   the   world   to   him   &   if   you   befriend   mason   ,   you   got   a   loyal   friend   for   LIFE.   💚

☕️ I’d love to hear some bitching about tropes 👀

one thing that makes me immediately exit out of fics: Chay wanting anything to do with the mafia.

in general, I don't think fics let Chay be angry enough. or like, they have Chay be angry at Exclusively Kim, which I hate the most, but Chay's so pissed at Porsche after he found out he left him for the mafia he stormed off. like, the kid who's entire character is loneliness and willingness to burn the world for 1.5 people, storms off from His Person because he's pissed he lied to him and joined the mafia. Chay's anger isn't explosive, but it is fierce. also, please look at his face in the Chay & Porsche pool scene. he is SO BEGRUDGING about the fact Porsche wants to stick around for Kinn.

ANYWAYS. my point: Chay hates the mafia. he Is Not Happy In The Mafia. he very begrudgingly puts up with the mafia for his brother and will accept it for Kim also after their reconciliation, but he holds the rest of them to a double standard and resents them for being mafia. if a story involves Chay thinking he "owes" the family (???) or wants to be involved in jobs, I know it's not the story for me.
