i really wanted to mix revival and older replica for this one. the thigh-high boots, sparkly, tasseled dress, and generally the wig are all revival inspired, but the curly fur stays and the makeup is old because i really do like the very dramatic, gothic grizabella looks. her coat is also heavily 2019 inspired with the length and stripey purple fabric

i also was not sure how i wanted to do her hair other than it covering one eye (SHOUTOUT TO THE FANART I SAW WHICH HAD THAT. I CANNOT REMEMBER THE URL) esp the color so i did a gradient of light grey to dark brown, which i REALLY liked ! it also helped me decide that shed be chocolate smoke instead of a tabby

idk why but i decided to go with a 1940s inspired formal look for her.... i quite like the hat and think it helps her to stand out, so i'm comfortable in that decision. her fur design is also mostly replica inspired. enjoy her neapolitan ice cream makeup too

she also gets a pink nose and her collar from the 2019 version. idk why the collars went so hard in that movie

VERY replica inspired.... with notes of other productions. opera populaire had full glasses bustopher which i liked. an older makeup look also had stripes which i also thought looked nice (and makes him look more related to mistoffelees) ! there are also multiple bustopher designs that have the moustache and beard 2 for 1 dealio..... and decided to incorporate that as well

he also gets the fishbone hanky crevat thing and a fishbone brooch. i almost made his rose white but i liked the contrast of the red. enough that i decided to give him lipstick too . and youd best believe that he has a giant fucking pipe that he smokes out of

he gets the coat and handkerchief (now a scarf) that typically hides the growltiger costume... which has a crisp formal outfit underneath. maybe he takes the coat off during his number to signify having moments of clarity and humor during his song

What is your personal pet peeve about fanart or fics in the fandom

Mine is when they give rhaenys daughter of elia valyrian features

Like when they describe her in fic as having purple eyes so dark they looked black, or faint hints of purple in her eyes. Or in fanart when they give her a white streak in her hair. Like the point is that she doesn't look valyrian! And racist grandpa hates her for that!

I love the fanart, they're pretty, and visually interesting, and also a labour of love, and I feel like such a tool for feeling like this about something fellow fans make

tbf the book does mention she had a streak in her hair BUT it is described more like alysanne going grey rather than a white/silver streak like Valarr so I do get that point.

i think i've talked before about being kinda picky about fancasts. sometimes the graphic is nice enough that i'll reblog anyway, but i hate charlotte hope as catelyn, isolda dychauk as sansa, and that girl from the last kingdom i always forget the name of as arya so much, it positively IRKS me. same with using big bollywood names as martells - esp because like, i don't think Deepika Padukone or Aishwarya Rai even look anything like how Arianne, Nymeria, or Elia are described. Ranveer Singh is less annoying just because i get it at least, I can see the Oberyn vibes but Deepika or Aishwarya are nowhere near delicate enough to play Elia, who is always described as basically ~looking sick.

And of course i've talked about the fic pickiness. I make up for this by having very low standards for grammar. I think I've even recced fics, sometimes highly, where the grammar is not good, the writing is clearly very clunky, the dialogue is not particularly accurate because for me what's more important is that you get the character right. I will tolerate so much formatting nonsense if you have a) a good plot idea and b) a good grasp of the characters. Like, I can't tell you how many HOTD fics I've backed out of that are incredibly well written but they either straighten the fuck out of Daemon's behavior, have Rhaenyra and Daemon (sometimes Alicent) hate Viserys, or are weird about Rhaenyra having kids out of wedlock in a way that makes my ass itch (once I was really into one and then Jace confronts her about the bastardry and asks why she dead ass went "because i wanted to." bro she would never saw it like that to Jacaerys of all people). But like, if you're getting crazy with the run ons, using em dashes like they're going out of style, have dialogue that sounds like d&d wrote it? idc so long as it rings true to the character!

excuse the awful title lol, but i was listening to the epic version of the arab nokia tune and not only does it slap, but it made me think of a very rough draft of a concept idea for a wip i had a few years ago

i hopped onto tumblr to ask a few questions and get some insight, but in the process of mentally making this post i decided i wont be able to achieve what i want the way want (in the forseeable future at least) so im discontinuing something i havent even started.

curious. i like u. anyway heres what could have been if i slayed as the kids say:

the idea was a fantasy (maybe even futuristic) novel set in a place heavily influenced by the middle east and the regions history, cradle of civilisation and all. the concept idea was for two kingdoms whose rulers where raised as brothers and are very close fall into discord and disharmony after shadowy shapeshifters (bad guys) of another realm sought to divide and conquer the kingdoms and seize their assets and domains (wow this is less subtle than i thought lol)

its up to the two crown princesses of the kingdoms to uncover the evil plots schemed, weed out the traitors assassin style or sum, and reunite the two kingdoms before its too late. all of this of course while they are the most wanted on the planet. girly things amirite

the world building is very shaky and i dont have the patience nor the braincells to spare to really sit down and come up with something, but the idea was several realms that 'represent' (dont laugh at me) the primary & secondary colours, and each one has a bunch of domains that include an element and an area of knowledge, but with time and a few other factors societies merged and theres a lot of diversity and multiculturalism and its all wonderful and awesome till disaster strikes and its used against them.

for example unnamed kingdom one is the biggest producer of minerals and grain, the main colours of the kingdom are gold and green and their domain is agriculture and languages (idk dont ask)

whereas unnamed kindom two is more celestial and astronomy oriented, with colours being navy and silver (or bronze now that i think of it) and its domain is scroll keeping and cartography

now with the passage of time and the rise and fall of dynasties and all that jazz, the domains are much more mixed as a reflection of the developments of the societies (primary colours becoming seconday and tertiary and so on and so forth), many city states specialising in one area of knowledge are grouped under the rule of a kingdom. essentially the world is a big beautiful tapestry :')

like for example a kingdom being home to the worlds biggest trade route and being a melting pot of cultures and tongues and faiths, has no specific colour; all encompasing and its glorious (idk how much it fits in the current timeline & narrative but its something)

again i dont have much world building down and what little i do is very vague lol, but thats the premise. the two princessess as of now belong to these two kingdoms and are bestest best friends, mirroring the epic bromance of their fathers before them lol. they are different in nearly everyhting but they are two halves of the same soul (platonic soulmates lets go!) and fiercely love each other >:D

so yeah. 2 princesses join forces to overthrow the ultimate evil and be the awesome kickass bff queens that they are. friendship (maybe more?) saves the day and reigns supreme as it so often does, but this time theres badassery and murder involved. dark stuff and fluff too

im hesitant to put this idea up for adoption bc a big reason it came to be was me being sick of all the gross stereotypes and tropes of everything ever manufactured and perpetuated by the west and me selfishly wanting to be represented correctly in media, esp original works, so im leaving this here in a sort of grey area i guess.

Silver with a slight blue tint is the biggest one !! It's her favourite colour and it's her eye colour, it just fits The Vibes. Gold (esp. pale gold) and stormy grey as well :3

I think a lot about (among other things) the idea of Silver's powers becoming more and more unstable as he works on them and/or overexerts them. Like, after a certain point his body just can't handle the amount of psychic energy coursing through him anymore and it just starts forming occasional electric-like crackles along his hands or something. Basically SOME visual indicator that Something Is Very Really Wrong Right Now Oh Shit Oh Fuck that no amount of "I'm FINE actually!!" can distract from

How I imagined it in New Beginnings is that the marks on his hands/gloves become more and more grey the more he overexerts himself. It begins with just minor cracks and stuff, but over time when he does not rest properly, they become increasingly more riddled with cracks until eventually they are grey in their entirety and he can call on his powers no more. Though, I also love the idea that his powers just begin bursting out of him when too overexerted! And we see with ESP Silver, assuming it counts, that with stronger powers he'll eventually just be entirely hued in cyan and always using his powers, even to move/walk. If that started with his hands, and them becoming increasingly more shaky as his powers begin flickering and jumping all over his body, I think it'd be a very interesting visual. But certainly also one where it's clear to everyone things are not going very well with Silver!

I want to put grungy grey makeup on my eyes and feel like a confidently sad girl rejecting the pressure to be approachable and good natured. There’s an intensity behind it that I love.

I know I’m not really a grungy person in terms of how I dress, but I do think I have a bit of that edge in me, which might be currently expressed through makeup. I sort of like the strange incongruity between my v conservative dress style and a dark brown eyeshadow look. I think it captures the disequilibrium I feel at this stage in my life, where I haven’t quite worked out where I want to go and how to reconcile the different parts of me.

Idk I fear that I’ll look back at pictures and be like « this picture is ruined by my attempt to amp it up with makeup » but I think I’ve learnt over time that avoiding dark shades around my eyes goes a long way at making my makeup look better.

Idk I’m in a bit of a rut atm with my makeup because I’m finding myself drawn back toward the Dior backstage palettes but without any real desire to be wearing that much makeup. I just sort of want an editorial eye but also I don’t want an editorial eye because I just want a nice natural sparkly eye. Do you see why I’m torn?

And I think I reach for the Dior backstage palettes expecting them to give me the tools to make such a look, but each time I’m reminded that the colours are simply too matte and too one-dimensional for my tastes. They’re designed to be blended together, but I don’t blend that many colours together usually — I prefer to focus on one or two eyeshadows, otherwise it gets too messy. ESP because I have small eyes, putting more than two colours on them makes them look even smaller — not the look.

I really am fond of my red lip silver eyeshadow look from Saturday. I feel like that silver eyeshadow really popped in a way I wasn’t expecting it to, especially with the black mascara. But that doesn’t feel constructed enough for me atm. I want something that covers the eyelid in an interesting way, maybe limited to the mobile lid only? I feel like recently shading around my browbone has led to lots of overblown looks that get too dark very quickly.

Im thinking the CT rock chic but I’ve kinda found it a bit one-note and a bit too intense for what I’m going for. I really don’t do simple black smoky eyes because they don’t tend to look the best. I prefer pops of brightness to bring life back to the eye area.

I do not, however, love how her face turned out. I turned her head more so you could see Assegai's sigil, but at what cost xD

I gave Tanith lil braids! Short hair gets SUPER unruly and looks gross after you travel across terrain inhabited only by the dead haven't showered in a few days, so braids would make it slightly more tame. I also think she'd fidget with it more, as she can't tie it back as easily.

*Tom's Serpine is way too clean and pampered imo. This is Dimension X Serpine, who I think by default is more scruffy and wears rougher clothes. He had just escaped an apocalypse and was blending in with the refugee mortals after all.

This cover definitely has the most details added to it. Do we think Tanith has enough belts yet?

I also couldn't decide whether or not to have her touching Obsidians cheek like she does in the book, so here's both versions. Maybe it'll distract from how god-awful her bangs are lol

Overall notes and thoughts:

While I still managed to convey it a little, I don't think I did as good a job of aging up Omen as I did with Val in Phase 1. Granted, he doesn't age nearly as much or as dramatically as she did...

Valkyrie's hair is SO inconsistent across these six, the Necronaut suit is more consistent than her hair xD

Drawing these six made me really focus on lightning. Phase 1 is heavily covered in flames, but these ones made me lock in. There is definitely still improvement to be made, but I'm happy with how I managed it.

The color backsplashes for these 6 (7) were really fun! They're simple, but they really fill space and make these covers stand out as 'phase two' in my opinion.

Dot brush my beloved

Dead or Alive definitely ended up changing the most, especially with the edition of Crepuscular.

I think Resurrection changed the least, really just outfits and character sizes. This one also turned out to be my favourite, though Until the End is a close second and Seasons of War is up there too.

This is my favourite one. Part of that is probably because it turned out the best (I had 8 9 other ones to practice on haha)

I love how the Title looks like smoldering embers. Really gives that apocalyptic feel that most of the book gives imo

I struggle with drawing kids/ young teenagers, but I think I did a good job of making Val look like shes growing up

Her eyebags get bigger/darker with each new cover lol

Skulduggery is wearing a different outfit in each cover! It starts with just the shirt, then the tie, then by Mortal Coil he's wearing a completely different suit each time (I really like this detail)

The Dying of the Light was definitely the cover that changed the most as I worked on it, and it also turned out to be my favourite

The Dark Days changed the least (although Playing with Fire and Last Stand of Dead Men both stayed relatively the same as well) On to Phase Two (after a break but they'll happen at some point) :D

Carmilla), have a "X” scar on their Left cheek- its a brandkng sign for impersonators from their planet and its a curse to akways appear on theur cheek no matter what sometimes they wear a black Victorian coat. Always have daggers in their pocket. On rare occasions ,they wear a steampunk carnivals mask.

-no one really use their full name, except for the aurora or toy soldier occasionally. Usually they are “the duke” “copperbrass” “piece of sarcastic junk” or “ferdinand”

-he used to be an infamous impersonator of royal figures on the Planet of Carnibala, the planet of Carnival and (for some reason) Cannibals. Often he would make up some title and name combination and get into events for free- he was also a thief and sort of master of disguise. He qas praised as “the masterful trickster god of the carnivals folks” And let's face it, the royals on the planet were a bunch of arrogant, snobbish tyrants. And eventually, they set an assassin called “Evil eye” on him. And then, publicly, while Ferdinand was driving, he blasted him with a special sort of gun- a gun that pulverizes all of your bones instantly, leaving you a pile of flesh, dying VERY slowly. And that obviously resulted in him crashing his car and somehow surviving, being lightly toasted. This was all observed by dr. Carmilla, who took pity upon him and mechanized him with the best of his efforts
